Kingdom of Elanaria

WELCOME » Welcome to The Kingdom of Elanaria, if you clicked on this page, it means the title was at least somewhat interesting and now you’re like “what the heck even is this roleplay?”
That is a very good question, is it a fantasy roleplay? Well yes, in a way. What about a high school roleplay? Yep we got that too. Animal shifters, is that going to be important? You betcha. This roleplay is all three of those things and more.
Set in the magical, mystical, modern kingdom of Elanaria, a young group of students (ages 13-17) are attending a boarding school called the Training Academy for Shifters (or TAS) to learn how to shift into their animal form, control this form and just get the general education they need anyways. Along the way, there will be adventures and action and plenty of mysteries to uncover, all the while mixed in with a little bit of magic, and a lot of teen angst. If any of that intrigues you, you might wanna read everything else on the front page too, because this roleplay is chalked full of important lore and world building that is crucial to know what’s going on. If you don’t want to do that but are still interested; you are more than welcome to read along, just fair warning, it might get a little weird.

• Please be respectful of others and try to be understanding, there’s no reason to treat others poorly and there’s no place for it here.
• This is a semi advanced to an advanced roleplay, meaning I do expect at least a paragraph or so when it comes to replies, however if you wish to do more than that, you are more than welcome to!
• This is an extremely lore packed roleplay, and as such, I encourage you to read everything on this page before you join.
• This is a roleplay built from and for creativity, please feel free to get as creative as you want! There’s magic, cryptids, creatures, and all the other freedoms you could want, including a lot of freedoms with character designs, if you want fun hair, fun eyes, fun markings, etc, that’s all fair game here, just check with me beforehand if it’s something you’re not sure of.
• Follow the roleplay rules of thumb, you know what they are. Don’t control other people’s characters in any way, no Mary Sues, try to be inclusive to everyone in the roleplay, etc.
• Forum rules are my rules, including the maturity rating that the forum has, however this roleplay will likely dive into dark themes, so if that bothers you, you might want to reconsider joining.
• Lastly, this roleplay is supposed to be fun for everyone, so try your best to be inclusive, accepting, and flexible, if we’re all willing to work with each other, I think everyone will have a lot of fun!

ELANARIA » The Kingdom of Elanaria is divided up into 20 individual districts that each take up their own sum of land, each one is unique and can only be accessed by bridges connecting them to the mainland, and while a lot of the districts take heavy inspiration after real locations on Earth, some of them are completely magical and unique. Each district is governed by a duke or a duchess and their spouse, with the capital - Mfalwen - being led by King Elijah Grimm and his husband. The kings technically govern over the entire kingdom, however as it would be impossible to be in every district at once, a lot of the power for the districts fall upon the various dukes and duchesses that rule over them, and it’s not uncommon for the dukes and duchesses to have other nobles help them preside over their district and the various leaders will often meet with the kings to discuss any major problems.
Elanaria is also a very magical place, with the source of magic that holds the kingdom together and maintains the unique terrains that each district has, is a large blue crystal that hovers above the center of the palace in Mfalwen, and without this crystal, it’s likely that the entire kingdom would fall and crumble into utter chaos.
The kingdom’s colors are various shades of purple and golden, with their symbol being a sun that reflects the water that separates the districts from each other. This symbol can be found on many things throughout the kingdom, especially on flags and official buildings and documents. It’s supposed to be a symbol of unity, showing that they are all one kingdom, however they are also unique and free districts that find their strengths in their differences.
Below is a brief description of every district, and most likely, as time goes on, I’ll create individual maps for each district, that will go more in depth on the locations and culture of the districts. However for now, there’s only a brief description to help you understand what each place is like.

DISTRICTS »
• Mfalwen - Ruled by Kings Elijah and Khari Grimm
The capital of the kingdom, Mfalwen is placed in the center of the mainland. It’s a very pretty place, with beautiful looking buildings and ground made out of a crystallized greenish blue rock. Mfalwen is the third smallest district, however it’s also easily the most important as it is home to the royal family and is the center of the kingdom. In the middle of the district lies the castle, standing bright and tall with the magical crystal that holds the kingdom together hovering above it, from there there’s also a couple other manors, a couple official kingdom buildings, a shopping district, an elementary school for kids that live in Mfalwen, and of course, the Training Academy for Shifters. The district is surrounded by a small pink woodland with magical pink trees, flowers, and blue crystals that make up the edge of the land until you get to the water that separates it from Anthropolia, and on the other end of the water border is a tall, round wall with four large, beautiful, intricate gates on each side of the district. Home to the royal family and plenty other nobles, Mfalwen is known as the jewel of Elanaria.

• Anthropolia - Governed by Duchesses Helen and Bella Kokinos
Being the second district on the main land, Anthropolia works as the busiest place in the kingdom; surrounding Mfalwen, it’s also the land that connects to all the others (except for Lalonalu and Omayoma) to the mainland through the many bridges that connect them. It’s a busy district, full of large, bustling cities, amazing technological advancements, large suburban neighborhoods, and everything in between. Known as the “Concrete Jungle” of the districts, Anthropolia might not be the prettiest place to look at, but it certainly helps keep the kingdom running, and is home to plenty of secrets of its own.

• Breen - Governed by Duchesses Annalise “Annie” and Duskdreamer “Dreamer” Arenborne
Being one of the largest district in the kingdom, it’s held together by an icy cold magic that allows for only the toughest, most enduring animals and people to live there. The entire district is walled in by ice walls that start out small and grow bigger the further back you get until they become giant icebergs and glaciers so large they’re bigger than most mountains. The first third of the district is covered in a thick layer of ice, that then gives way to a snowy pine forest covered in thick fog, making it incredibly hard to see where you’re going. Once the fog clears up, it opens into the actually inhabited area, with a large, spread out village. Unlike the other districts, they don’t have multiple towns or cities and only has the one, and it’s as large as it is spread out, with a small castle near the glacier walls where the duchesses live, along with that there’s also a large cave that goes deep into the heart of the freezing iceberg.

• Etoile - Governed by Duchess and Duke Stella and Satellite Butterfly
This district is quite interesting as it is divided into two, the ground is a dark, obsidian black with flecks of white spread out across it to reflect that of a night sky, with large, glowing purple and blue plants that reach as high as trees and are full of a natural sort of chaos magic that is hard to explain unless you experience it yourself. In the center of the ground is an incredibly large chasm that goes so far down that no one really knows when it ends, but it’s a bad idea to slip and fall into the chasm. The main land of the district though, is actually on three floating islands all clumped together, going so far up that it exists in a the mesosphere, with a bubble of air surrounding the islands to make it possible for everyone to breath. The ground on the islands is a mossy, dark purple and there are about three different cities of various sizes, one on each of the clumped up islands. The sky is constantly dark, giving the illusion that it’s always night, however in reality they just get to look up and see thousands upon thousands of stars in their sky. The only way to get from the ground to the floating islands is through a large blue portal, one is at the ground next to the large chasm and the other is on the smallest island in the sky, and much like the portals in the district, they also use portals instead of a bridge to get from the mainland to Etoile.

• Lalonalu - Governed by Duchesses Talanoa and Dilloo Jellyfish
The interesting thing about this district is that it is entirely under water, with the only way to get to it is by taking a ship out to a tower that sticks out of the water in the middle of a whirlpool and enter through the portal in the tower, and from there it’ll take you underwater and straight into the district itself. Lalonalu is made out of four large bubbles, with three smaller ones and one large one in the center, and anything inside the bubbles is dry land, they have a sort of Atlantis feeling to it and the main city is inside the main bubble, with the other bubbles having smaller cities inside. The district is surrounded by water and shifters will often go out to explore the depths of the ocean, and there’s a coral reef barrier that surrounds the district, which makes it almost impossible to get inside without the use of the portals, however there are some secret entrances for the aquatic shifters to go in and out from the water to dry land.

• Platirhys - Governed by Duchess and Duke Darcy and Montez Atwater
Being one of the smaller districts, Platirhys actually shares its land mass with its neighboring district: Aviog, however as the latter takes place mostly in the sky, they don’t interact all that much. Platirhys is basically the main docking point in the kingdom and is a huge place for fishing and sailing, they’re a little hardier there and the place could use a couple of upgrades, but the people there tend to like the more rustic vibe they get from it. There’s only one “city” there and it really is more of a town than anything else, it isn’t super big and the main focus is definitely on the docks. The place seems to constantly smell slightly of fish and it’s usually not the place people go if they want to vacation somewhere.

• Aviog - Governed by Dukes Falcon and Floyd Pines
The actual district isn’t that big, and is actually the second smallest district in the kingdom. The ground is covered in thick woods that aren’t actually part of Aviog and is home to countless creatures that don’t want people there, and so mostly, people just use the woods to get to the actual districts in the area (those being Aviog and Platirhys), and to get to Aviog, they must venture deep into the woods until they reach a sort of magical elevator that takes them up to the small floating island. The island in question has a lot of large, hollowed out tree with homes and even cities inside them and almost every home is a tree house in Aviog. The place is mostly for flying shifters, as they can sour through the sky and tend to handle the high up terrain better than others, but it’s still home to other type of shifters as well.

If you’re looking for magic, you’ve come to the right place, as Paracosia is easily the most magical place in the entire kingdom. The ground is covered in a thick, magical forest full of pink trees, magical flowers, and large mushrooms that have magical properties, the forest is home to countless magical creatures and there seems to be a sense of serenity to it that doesn’t exist in the other districts, and in the heart of the forest is a portal that leads to the large floating island above that is home to Paracosia. The islands live among heavy clouds and from them, you can’t see the ground below you, in fact the ground itself in Paracosia is made out of clouds that you can walk on, making it soft and fluffy to the touch. Light shines down upon the islands and glisten on the reflective, crystal domes they encase the cities, allowing rainbow lights to shimmer and shine in every direction and soft clouds seep into the cities, creating an alluring, comforting terrain. There’s three major cities, with each one on their own floating island, and each one is enclosed in a clear, crystal dome that lets the light and colors shine through, and the entire district just feels extremely magical and peaceful, almost as if it’s an imaginary or even dream like world.

• Maraisille - Governed by Duchess and Duke Tansy and Agamedes “Aggie” Aube
The most notable thing about Maraisille is that the entire district is an incredibly large swamp, with various rivers and lakes in it. The swamp is full of fresh water creatures and the trees are dense, with an almost consistent humming noise coming from all the different bugs hidden inside the swamp. There’s only one main city, but there’s a lot of little towns spread out throughout the entire district, each one with their own sort of vibe to them. It isn’t usually the place people vacation to, but if you’re looking for an experience you won’t quite forget, Maraisille is the place for you. It’s also supposedly home to a giant alligator cryptid that plenty of locals have claimed to see, even though there isn’t any concrete proof that such a creature exists yet.

Being the smallest district in the kingdom, it’s easy to go by unnoticed by the others, however it’s actually a very interesting place. Being a small, tropical island with a small mountain in the center, this district is a huge vacation place, and though they only have a few small beach towns, it’s enough to support them and any tourists they might get. There’s also, supposedly, some sort of mysterious creatures that lurk deep inside the mountain, however no one is sure if that’s true or just another way to get tourists to come to Omayoma. Still, it’s usually a quiet, peaceful place and is definitely worth a visit.

This large district is mostly made out of a sort of hard desert type terrain, with large mountains and weird red and orange rock formations, it’s not very hospitable but it also home to plenty of ranches and farms, not to mention it throws the best rodeos and fairs around. There’s not really a main city, but there is a main town in the back that’s mostly just a bunch of ranches with a small town in the middle, then there’s also a couple of other towns spread throughout the entire district. This district in question does take heavy inspiration from the Wild West.

This district is interesting because the terrain is easily divided into three different areas. The first area is made entirely out of large cliffs that get bigger and bigger until the drop in the center of the district. The cliffs are home to a lot of different houses that all are tilted slightly to the side as if blown over from all the extreme winds that they experience. From there the cliffs drop off into a canyon with a large chasm in the center of it, which is best to avoid as it can cause a lot of problems for people that get stuck down there. On the other side of the canyon are large, dark mountains with a large number of tunnels and caves in them that lead to different towns and cities that are all underground, with the main city being in the heart of the mountains, and surrounded by all different kinds of crystals. It’s a unique district and certainly worth a visit, if anything else.

• Hym - Governed by Duchess and Duke Hershey and Absalom Kingsleigh
Hym is made out of a large forest, with mixed trees of almost every kind. There’s a couple different small towns hidden in the midst of the forest, with the largest town being next to an incredibly large, dead tree that definitely gives off a sort of otherworldly vibe. The forest is home to a lot of critters, and a lot of weird things they happen there. Ghosts, haunted place, cryptids, alien sightings and crashes, and practically anything else that you could think of, giving it a sort of creepy and mysterious vibe to it. Which, it definitely doesn’t help when the fog rolls in and covered the district in a thin fog that makes it barely able to see in front of you. Over all, it’s kind of a creepy place, but there’s definitely a very specific aesthetic to it that some might find appealing. If you ever want to go ghost or cryptid hunting, this is the place to go.

It’s a rather large district with a few small villages that lead to a large, busy, advanced city, and from the city comes a couple other small towns until you get to all the farmland. There’s also a lot of tall rock formations covered in moss and tees, and a large bamboo forest that covered the side of the district and begins to spread out into the farmlands and beyond. It’s a rather big district, with a lot of ground to cover, and while the city is busy and bustling, the more rural parts of the district have a sort of calm and serene vibe to them that makes them pleasant to visit. This district takes heavy inspiration from China.

• Troppat - Governed by Dukes Russet and Tangaroa "Tango" Gangurru
The district has a lot of different terrain to it, with the first bit being a fun, sandy beach that gives way for a lush, green forest that goes along the edges of the district and ends briefly for a decent sized hard desert to take over, the desert has a lot of large rock formations and a couple small towns spread out near the only water supplies that it has to offer, and on the other side of the desert, the forest continues, stretching on for awhile until it gives way to a softer desert with a small oasis town in the center and a couple of green, grassy mountains surrounded it. This district is heavily inspired by Australia.

• Vertefeu - Governed by Duchesses Madora “Jester” and Aubriana “Ana” Melusine
Being one of the most magical districts in the kingdom, Vertefeu is known for one thing and that’s how hot it is there. The entire land is made out of red, orange, and yellow crystal ground that makes it appear as if you are walking on a fire made of stone. Large volcanoes cover the entire district, with the largest volcano in the center. There’s a couple different towns spread out throughout the entire district, however the main city is actually inside that large volcano and exists with the lava as one. Magic is what keeps everything running in Vertefeu and is the only reason people can even live here, however this district is also well known for their dragons, including a good amount of dragon shifters as well. It’s hot but it’s magical and definitely worth a visit at least once.

The entire district is made up of a large desert, with large sand dunes so big they can rival that of mountains. The place itself isn’t the most hospitable, but the locals do what they can to make it their own. The main city is pushed back by the balance, nearing the end of the district, however there’s also a couple other small towns scattered throughout the entire district, each by some sort of water source, and in the middle of the desert there’s a large oasis that supposedly leads to the ancient ruins of the old kingdoms that remain deep within the desert’s grasp. There’s also a couple temples and towers scattered throughout the desert as well and this district is heavily inspired by Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

• Arhiburi - Governed by Duchess and Duke Bala and Somesh Khan
The large district starts with a type of savanna, with a large chasm breaking apart the rest of the savanna from a small volcano that is considered too dangerous to explore. From there the savanna gives way to a large gorge that must be crossed in order to get to the rest of the savanna, which ends with a large rock formation that is home to the duchess and her family. Behind the rock comes large hills that lead into a jungle, and in the jungle there’s a lot of different rivers and hidden places, with a large tree standing out from among the others, and the jungle gives way to a dark, rocky terrain that leads to large mountains, and from the largest mountain comes a waterfall that pools down into a river that flows through most of the entire district. There’s also a couple of villages scattered throughout the entire district, some in the savanna and some in the jungle. This district is heavily inspired by Africa.

• Ganjal - Governed by Duke and Duchess Raj and Tikaani “Tik” Bhediya
The entire district is a large, thick jungle with a couple rivers running through it. The main city can be found in the center of the district and is build almost like a large jungle temple, except it’s a city. There’s also a couple of mountains that poke out from the density of the jungle. There’s a couple other villages as well, deep within the jungle. As well as a lot of jungle ruins and ancient temples hidden inside the trees, a lot of Ganjal has yet to be explored, especially by anyone not originally from there, and as such is often a hotspot for adventurers.

The entire district is made out of a large, dense rainforest, with multiple rivers running through it like veins, or roots, or sometimes they’re even compared to branches from a tree, basically they’ve been compared to a lot of things. But the rivers run deep through the thick and dense rainforest, and while there are a lot of little villages scattered throughout the district, they can’t be seen from above as the rainforest completely covers them, in fact the only inhabited place that can be seen from above is the main city, which is pushed to the back and is higher up due to a large stone staircase leading up to the city. This district took heavy inspiration from the Amazon Rainforest.

SHIFTING » Now, this is in a way, an animal shifter roleplay, what I mean by this is that 98% of the population have some form of animal or creature that they can shift into at will and these forms can range from something normal like a cat, to something mystical like a unicorn, to some sort of weird mix of however many animals you want, heck there’s even some demon animal forms for characters. However if you are going to do anything outside the “norm” I would appreciate it if you asked beforehand, just so I can double check to make sure you’re all good to go there.
Most people do inherit their animal form from one or both of their parents, however that’s not always the case and sometimes the animal can be something completely random, however if they didn’t inherent their form from their parents, they aren’t going to have some sort of creature mix, as those only happen when the parents are two or more different animal shifters.
There’s also a small amount of the population (2%) that don’t have an animal form. They’re like the 2% milk of society here. Typically this percentage of people is regarded as a sort of...scientific wonder, and scientists all across the kingdom are still trying to figure out why they don’t have an animal form.
It’s also important to note that people don’t unlock their animal form until the age of 13, which is why that’s when shifter training school begins, and for the first couple years, it can be pretty hard to manage this form and learn to control it.
Typically, people will make a big deal out of children’s 13th birthdays because of this, it’s one of those milestones that every parent is excited for their child to reach and it’s not uncommon for a thing called a “Shifter Reveal Party” to happen sometime after someone turns 13. During this party, the newly made teenager will reveal to the guests what kind of animal form they have by shifting in front of them for the first time. It’s a huge thing, and a lot of people go all out for it.
I’d also like to add that despite being able to turn into an animal, they can’t communicate with the normal animals unless it’s their familiar. (More on that in the magic section)

MAGIC » Now, magic is a tricky thing here because while technically, it’s everywhere, not everyone has magic. A good amount of the population do have some form of magic, allowing them the right to a familiar (more on that later) however there’s also a good amount that don’t. Magic is pretty much just an accepted part of the world and is as normal as modern day technology is. Some people have it, some people don’t, and it’s part of the very world they live in. Some districts are also more in tune with magic than others.
Examples of that being Breen (a sort of ice and snow magic), Etoile (space and star magic), Vertefeu (fire and heat magic), Hym (a bit less on the magic side of things and more on the creepy, mysterious, cryptic area of expertise) and of course: Paracosia, which is easily the most magical district in the entire kingdom.
Along with this, there’s a large amount of magical and mythical creatures (both shifters and otherwise) that live in Elanaria; such as unicorns, dragons, pegasi, ghosts, werewolves, demons, orcs, goblins, fairies, cryptids, and more.
Magic in all forms is taught in schools, with some schools diving deeper into the various types of magic than others, and it’s an important subject to learn about whether you have magic or not. There’s all different kinds of magic, however Elanaria tends to divide it up into these categories:
- White Magic (magic stemmed from good and used for good)
- Grey Magic (a neutral magic source that is neither good or evil)
- Black Magic (magic of the dark, it isn’t practiced, but people do learn about it)
- Chaos Magic (it’s chaotic, it’s hectic, it doesn’t make a lick of sense, you get the gist)
- Earth Magic (magic that you learn, it comes from the earth itself and is usually more focused on potions and spells)
- Elemental Magic (this covers the basic water, ice, fire, rock, wind, etc kinds of magic)
- Alchemy (the art of using science and magic together)
There’s more types of magic as well, but those are the major ones and the rest are considered branches off of these.
Lastly, those with magic will also have an animal companion known as a familiar. This familiar is supposed to represent who they are in a way and though these familiars can talk, only the person they are a familiar to can hear them, it’s kind of like they share a physic bond with each other, and in a way, they do.
Familiars are connected to the magical being they bond with, and once that connection is formed, it’s incredibly hard - though not impossible - to break; the two can often feel what the other is feeling in a way, whether it be emotional or physical, and they can communicate with each other. Familiars serve to help their masters and often work as guides for them as well.
A familiar can be anything, so long as it connects to the person in question, and while most of the time, people will only have one familiar, there is the rare occasion where someone might have two or more, though that is extremely rare.

- - - - - HISTORY » The history of Elanaria is long and old, the kingdom has been around for an extremely long time, however no one is quite sure how it all came together, as it gets quite muddled once you dig further back, stained by countless wars and needless bloodshed. However the main changes happened only recently, about 21 years ago to be exact, when an event known simply as “The War” happened.
You see, before The War, Elanaria was much, much bigger and further apart, with a definite difference between the “high class” and the “low class” and this is what sparked a way. The people that had been forced to live in the slums of the kingdom had finally had enough and fought back against the tyrannical king that ruled at the time, exposing more and more terrible things that he had done to the public.
The war stretched out for about three years before it finally ended with the old king dead and the leader of the rebellion taking his place.
However in one last act of vengeance, the old king tried to destroy Elanaria, using a giant sum of magic to force the lands closer and closer together, and as he did that, they lost more and more of their land to the depths of the ocean.
He was stopped before he completed his plan of vengeance, but by then the entire lands were changed. They had formed together to create an almost sun like mass of land and had lost a good amount of their original lands during the end of The War.
Once The War had come to a close and the new king was crowned, he promised to do everything he could to bring Elanaria back to its former glory, but this time with the rights that everyone deserves, and even now, 8 years after the end of The War, he is still living up to his promise and trying to do better each day.
Elanaria is finally ruled by a good king, one that is fair and just, and everyone is hopeful that this means they can finally enter a true time of peace, preferably one that lasts longer than just 20 or so years. - - - - - PLOTS » Dead family members! Strange dreams! Teen angst! Eyepatches! Trouble and more; what does it all mean, and what does it have to do with high school?
...Nothing really, but it’ll all come together and connect in the end.
Right now the plot of the roleplay focuses on the teens attending the Training Academy for Shifters as they go about their normal lives in a magical, whimsical, world; however underneath the surface, something much darker and far more sinister lurks in the shadows, biding its time patiently for the right time to strike.
There’s something hidden in the minds of a certain family, and as tension builds, new problems arise that might just lead the entire kingdom into destruction if they aren’t careful and it’ll be up to everyone to stop it.
It’s a rather slow burn plot and while it is the overarching plot of the roleplay, that doesn’t mean there can’t be more, because chances are that there are going to be plenty of character driven plots and other things that push the story forward, so if you have any plot ideas, whether small or big, let me know so we can figure out a way to include them! |

THE SCHOOL » Welcome to the Training Academy for Shifters, otherwise known as TAS; it’s a boarding school in Mfalwen that teaches students how to hone in on their shifting abilities and also offers a sort of internship for graduates 18-20 as aides for the other students.
It’s run by Headmaster Vumbi Singh and the school colors are a light purple, silver, and yellow.
The academy comes with four major buildings, one is the main building and is home to most of the classrooms, the gym, and other such things. Another is for the dormitories, with one side being for the girls and the other side for the boys. The third building is the library and there’s a coup other classroom in there, though it’s mostly used for extra curricular activities and club meetings. Then the last building is where the cafeteria is, along with the science labs and a couple other more official rooms.
There’s also a smaller building not far off, which is where the teachers sleep, however it’s off limits to the students.
The ground have large fields for sports, stables for horses, a large pool, and even more outdoorsy type places and is used to its fullest for students and teachers alike.
The school has a curfew of 9:00 PM unless under special circumstances and a couple strict rules, however for the most part, it’s a fairly relaxed setting and allows the students to explore their own interests.
It should also be noted that while homework is still a thing, it’s only given out in small amounts as TAS believes that a majority of learning should be happening either in the classrooms or because the students willingly choose to learn more.

”Papa, you promised to tell us a story before bed!”
”Oh did I? Well then, let me think...”
Elari grabbed hold of a pillow, cuddling into it as she looked up at her papa. It was getting late and she could feel the very edge of sleepiness begin to wash over her, but she couldn’t sleep yet. Papa was going to tell a story and his stories were the best.
Her father dusted off the only chair in the pillow fort and sat down, propping a knee up. ”So, you want a story, what kind of story does everyone want?” He questioned, a twinkle in his eyes.
Ko raised his hand first, excitedly pushing it into the air. ”Oh! Oh! Can it be an action story? One full of daring adventure?” He asked and jabbed his hand forward as if it was a sword.
Enzo nodded along in agreement with Ko, plopping his stomach into a pile of pillows as he grinned up at Papa, kicking his feet back and forth. ”Make it scary and dangerous too! That’s how all good stories are!” He decided quickly and Elari made a face at that.
Scary was...well...scary.
Luckily, Enoch seemed to agree with her there, as he shook his head vehemently and scooted closer to Papa. ”Don’t makes it too scary though, what about a fairytale?” He asked, eyes shining as he looked up at their father.
Kalahari wiggled around in his blanket, beaming up at Papa as he inched a little closer. ”You should tell us the story about how you and Baba fell in love!” He squeaked out happily.
At that, Papa paused briefly to look over at Baba, who was sitting in the back of the pillow fort. They smiled at each other for a moment that Elari thought lasted a little too long before Papa finally returned his attention back to Elari and her siblings.
Ephraim was the last of them to speak up, taking a pillow that he had been chewing on out of his mouth as he let out a giggle and rocked back and forth. ”Funny story!” He piped in quickly.
Papa got back up from the chair. ”Alright, so we want an action packed, funny fairytale with about romance with a little danger thrown in, is that correct?” He questioned and Elari’s siblings simultaneously nodded, each of them scooting a little closer.
Papa began to pace, letting out a long, thoughtful hum, hemming and hawing before finally, he let out an overly dramatic gasp and turned on the heels of his feet. ”I have the perfect one!” He exclaimed and moved the chair out of the way to sit down, crossing his legs. ”Now, everyone gather round, and-oh wait,” Papa paused and made a move to get up. ”We’ll want the lights off for this-“
”Oh! Oh! I got it, Papa! Lemme do it!” Ko piped in quickly and scrambled up to his feet, hurrying over to turn off the lights and sliding back on his fuzzy socks, almost running into Kalahari.
Luckily, a collision was avoided and instead Ko just sat down next to his twin, grabbed his arm to cuddle up next to him, and scooted both of them closer to their father, while Kalahari snuggled right back up with him and stared wide-eyed up at Papa.
Beckoning them closer, Papa grabbed the lantern that had been off to the side and placed it in the center of the room, turning it on to give just enough light that it illuminated his face.
”This is the story of a King and his Lionheart,” Papa started, casting another knowing smile over towards Baba.
”Once upon a time, long ago, there lived a young king, except he wasn’t king yet-“ Just as he was about to get into the story, Ko threw his hand excitedly back into the air.
”Oh! Oh! What was he, Papa? What was he if he wasn’t a king yet?”
Enoch glared at him. ”Ko! Be quiet!” He scolded and Enzo shook his head at Ko, silently agreeing with Enoch that Ko should probably be quiet right now.
”...Oh right, sorry!” Ko apologized quickly, looking back up towards Papa.
Papa waited a minute to make sure there wouldn’t be any more interruptions before he continued. ”He was a young man with big ideas for the future and the misfortune of living in the old slums of Elanaria,” he responded lightly, gently reaching out to boop Ko’s nose before he continued. ”However one day, he would be a king...” Just like that, their father began to dive into the tale of the King and Lionheart.
It was everything Papa had promised it to be.
Funny...
Ko let out a sharp laugh, comically slapping his knee. ”Ha! Did the young king really swing from a ship just to impress the lionheart?” He asked, wiping at his eyes.
Papa chuckled softly and nodded. ”He did, and countless other things in an effort to impress the lionheart,” he admitted and looked back over at Baba. ”Little did he know that all he had to do, was be himself,” at that, Kalahari let out a dreamy sigh and snuggled deeper into his blanket.
Eventful...
Ephraim let out a small gasp as he buried himself in a blanket, covering his head. ”Was the lionheart okay?” He asked in a squeaked out voice.
Papa nodded reassuringly. ”He was, but it took time for him to heal, and even then, there are some injuries you can’t quite heal all the way,” he explained, eyes trailing down to Baba’s missing arm.
Elari had never questioned why Baba only had one arm when everyone else had two, that’s just always how Baba was for her.
But maybe she should’ve questioned...she’d have to give him an extra long hug tonight for his missing arm.
Romantic...
”Finally having realized how much he loved the lionheart, the young king went to the cliffs and to the crystal caves, turning his emotions into words through song,” Papa continued, smiling down at them all.
Scary...
”The young king was truly alone, in the midst of a terrible battle, one he was very quickly losing...” As Papa dove deeper into the story, Elari buried herself in her blanket, tension prickling at her shoulders as she wondered how the young king was going to get out of this one.
Then of course, it was all wrapped together in a fairytale bow.
”After everything they had been through, war, pain, suffering, the two of them could finally relax, as the young king finally ascended to the throne and together the king and lionheart made Elanaria a better place, living happily ever after, the end,” As Papa finished, he turned off the lantern and gestured for the lights to be turned back on.
Ko let out a gasp of amazement, clambering up into Papa’s lap. ”Wow! That was amazing!” He started, pausing for a moment before asking: ”Who were the king and lionheart?”
Silence.
Then...
”Ko! It was about Papa and Baba! Papa’s the king and Baba’s the lionheart!” Enoch spoke up, throwing his hands up in exasperation at his younger brother.
”Yeah Ko, I thought that was obvious,” Enzo piped in, giving a sort of vague “duh” gesture before running a hand through his curly black mop of hair.
...It had been kind of obvious that the story was about Papa and Baba, but Ko had always been a little slow to catch on about stuff like that anyways.
Ko’s mouth formed an “o” shape as realization dawned upon him, looking quickly from Papa to Baba a couple times before going limp in Papa’s arms. ”Woah, thats amazing,” he breathed out.
Papa chuckled and lifted him up. ”I’m glad you enjoyed the story, now, I think it’s time you all run along to bed, Baba and I will come to tuck you in soon,” he promised and placed Ko down.
Ko got ready to walk off when Papa stopped them. ”Ah, I think you’re forgetting something,” he said and stretched his arms out to him.
Grinning, Ko hurriedly ran back over to Papa and gave him a big hug, pulling away to go give Baba an equally big hug before he left the room.
Following Ko’s example, Ephraim, Kalahari, Enzo and Enoch all got up to hug both Papa and Baba before leaving to go to their rooms.
Elari stayed where she was for a moment, hugging the pillow tightly, her brow furrowed together as she thought about the story.
Getting up to her feet, Elari slowly walked over to hug Papa, stopping just out of reach of him. ”...Papa,” she started, looking up at her father with large, wide blue eyes. ”Do you think we’ll have stories to tell when we’re older too?” She asked.
Elari hadn’t thought much about the stories she’d share when she was older before, but thinking about it now, she really did hope she had an amazing tale to tell, just like her fathers did.
Papa smiled down at her and picked her up, pulling her into a hug. ”Elari, I am certain that you will have just as many stories to share when you’re older,” he started and smiled at her. ”Full of adventure-“ he booped her nose and Elari let out a soft giggle. ”Humor-“ he tickled her, causing more laughter to erupt from her. ”Romance-” Papa placed his forehead on Elari’s and she smiled at him. ”Adventure, and everything in between,” Papa promised, walking her over to the door before he placed her down.
”Believe me, Elari, one day you will have plenty of stories to share, some will even be greater than mine,” he told her, giving her one last hug before he pulled away. ”Alright, time for bed, I’ll be in to tuck you in soon,” he told her.
Elari nodded and smiled at him, pausing to give Baba an extra big hug before she stepped back and hovered in the doorframe, looking up at her two fathers. ”Goodnight Papa, goodnight Baba, I love you,” she told them.
Papa smiled back at her. ”We love you too, Elari,” he told her, and once she had gotten the “i love you” out of them, Elari closed the door behind her and started off towards her bedroom, mind swirling with thoughts of the stories she would tell one day.

Ten years later, Elari stood just outside the ballroom doors of the palace, wondering if these were the kind of stories her papa had meant that she would have.
Stressful balls and the overwhelming urge to please everyone.
Probably not.
Elari took a shaky breath.
”It’s just a ball, it’s not like it’s armageddon or something, you’ll be fine, people probably won’t even realize you’re there,” she reassured herself and then, giving one last, affirmative nod that this was all going to be okay, Elari gestured to the guards and stepped through the opening doors.
”Announcing Princess Elari Kapuki Grimm, of the royal family!”

Elari felt her cheeks heat up as she tried to ignore the gazes all turned upon her now and began her descent down the marble staircase.
Hiding her face from view, Elari let out a breath of relief once she was off the stairs and no longer felt as if all eyes were on her. Now she could just quietly slip away and try to enjoy the ball...
Or so she thought.
”Elari! Hi! I have to say, you look nice today, I knew you’d grow into your looks one day,” came a voice and Elari sighed, turning around to see her cousin, Kora, waving her over in her own ball gown.
Kora had her dark black hair pulled back into an intricate bun on the top of her head, her caramel skin tone was decorated in jewelry and makeup, with a fan in her gloved hand an a long, flowing pink ball gown with a low v cut and no sleeves clinging to her body.
Elari smiled over at her, walking over to join her. ”Kora, it’s nice to see you, I like your dress,” she said and gestured to her cousin’s outfit.
Kora beamed happily. ”Isn’t it amazing? I had a seamstress all the way from Breen make it for me, mother says the pink really brings out my eyes,” she explained and fluttered her dark eyelashes over her honey yellow eyes.
Elari nodded slightly. ”It definitely does,” she agreed and trailed off, waiting for Kora to continue the conversation, and when she didn’t, Elari did her best to do so. ”Are you enjoying the ball so far?” She asked, tilting her head to the side.
Kora let out a long “mhmm” in response as she smiled over at Elari. ”Oh definitely, I’ve had so many potential suitors save me a dance already, how about you? Enjoying it so far?” Kora asked, gently fanning her face with the intricately designed pink fan in her hands.
Elari shrugged in response. ”I guess, but I haven’t really had much of a chance to know yet, I was a little late to finish getting ready and I only arrived a minute ago,” she explained and gestured back towards the stairs.
Kora nodded absentmindedly in response, though it was clear she wasn’t actually listening, much too preoccupied with her own thoughts on the party.
Elari wasn’t surprised, this was usually his conversations with Kora went. Her cousin wasn’t bad company to have, and she had a big enough personality to keep even the most dull person entertained, however sometimes she could be a bit...much, and it was no secret that the girl thought rather highly of herself, which wasn’t an issue either, it was good to be confident in oneself.
That was just a talent that Elari did not possess.
The conversation with Kora continued on for a couple more minutes before Kora excused herself and went off to go talk to some of the other guests.
Elari thought that would be the end of it, allowing her some time to actually breathe before the next person came up to her, but that turned out to not be the case.
”Elari, you’ve grown so much since I last saw you!”
”Elari, your hair looks amazing, it must have taken hours!”
”Elari, have you met my son yet? He’s quite handsome, isn’t he?”
”Elari!”
”Elari!”
”Elari!”
Her name echoing repeatedly both in her mind and out loud, Elari gripped her head in the midst of all the commotion, trying to steady herself as the room began to swerve and spin around her, people calling out her name from all over as they advanced towards her.
It was all too much.

Somehow managing to sneak away from the crowds of partygoers, Elari had found herself at the dessert end of the buffet; the tables lined out and covered in different fondants, bowls of fruit, and trays upon trays of different sweets.
Elari grabbed a plate and instantly began piling brownies and strawberries on it, putting them on before making her way to the chocolate fountain and dipping the strawberries - and brownies in it - until they were all covered in chocolate.
Mmm still not enough.
Looking around, Elari spotted a server with a tray full of drinks walking nearby, offering the drinks to various adults that were talking among themselves, and as the man passed by Elari, she reached out and grabbed one of the glasses.
The server stopped, looking at her uncertainly, as if he wasn’t sure if he should tell the crown princess no or not. ”...Princess Elari, that um...that’s for the adults, it’s champagne-“ he began to explain and Elari shook her head, cutting him off.
”No, no, don’t worry, I’m not going to drink it, I just need the glass,” she explained and to make her point, she looked around and walked over to a nearby bush, dumping the champagne into it before she walked back over to the table, used a napkin to clean the inside of the glass and offered the server a smile, ”See? No harm done.”
The server still didn’t seem entirely convinced, but nodded nonetheless and continued on his way,
Elari looked back to the fountain and quickly dipped the glass into it, waiting until the entire glass had filled with chocolate fondue before she took it out and gulped down some of the chocolate.
There, that’s what she needed right now.
Piling a couple more chocolate covered strawberries onto her plate, Elari picked it up and took another gulp of the chocolate fondue, walking away from the buffet.

A couple minutes later, Elari found herself seated in a room that - while not off limits to the public - didn’t have anyone else in it, her legs crossed and dress covering her body with only her feet sticking out, dressed in pink ballet slippers instead of the usual shoes she should be wearing to a ball as she turned the page on her book, occasionally reaching over to grab one of her strawberries or take a sip out of the glass full of chocolate.
This was much more her speed than the busy, crowded ballroom had been, and if she could manage, she’d spend the entire evening in here, cuddled up with her book, her strawberries, and her chocolate.

Seriously, look at this place, it was crawling with well dressed, hormonal people all ready to get their groove on and supply content that would last her ages, in fact it was such a steady supplier of content that Eggy had made sure to be here early.
...Not that it was really up to her, she was only thirteen and couldn’t drive or anything like that and it would’ve taken longer to get here as a peacock. But she had pushed to make sure her family had arrived before the other guests and she was glad she did.
Looking down at the notebook she had brought with her, Eggy furiously scribbled down note after note, occasionally looking up to study the people in question.
She was gonna supply her readers with the best chapter ever in her upcoming TreeClimber intergalactic, space opera, 1920s spy AU.
Eggy would admit that she was pretty proud of herself. Only thirteen and already had a bright future as a fanfiction author. She did a lot of writing honestly, she had a whole online persona and everything.

Usually, she took requests for upcoming stories, and that meant it could range from something about her favorite characters in a show, to fanfiction about her two cats, to this super fun space opera spy story about her cousin’s cousin and a weird angry girl.
Though...Eggy paused, looking up to try and spot Pine or Jumper, but it didn’t seem like they were here yet. Maybe she should track down Bee and ask if she knew where Pine was. After all, Pine was Bee’s cousin and Bee was basically Eggy’s twin from different parents, so it just made sense to ask her about it.
She’d do that as soon as she could find her.
Looking down at her stomach as it let out a very anger growl that screamed “feed me or I will self cannibalize myself and leave you as nothing more than a shriveled up, stomach-less sack of skin” Eggy decided it might be a good idea to hit the buffet.
Which, in her defense, it wasn’t her fault that she forgot to feed that gross monster that lives in her belly, she was a busy gal with way too much to do.
But apparently, she also couldn’t request that someone did some spooky magic stuff so she just photosynthesized like she was always meant to do.
Something about it being “unlawful magical experimentation on a minor.”
Stupid laws getting in the way of her feasting upon the sun like some sort of glorious, poisonous sunflower goddess unleashed upon the world.
Grumbling, Eggy placed her notebook on the table and grabbed a plate, idly grabbing various vegetables and other savory hors d’oeuvres, instantly dipping each and every one of them into the various sweet fondues laid out in front of her.
Afterwards, she then moved to the sweets side of the buffet and did the same thing, except this time she dipped the sweets in the cheese fondue.
If her stomach was going to start making demands for sustenance, it was going to be on Eggy’s terms and she was going to make her stomach suffer through every horrid, retched food abomination she could think of in order to show this dumb stomach was was boss around here.
Eggy was the superior intellect, the stomach was just her mindless servant that kept her alive, it bowed to her, and Eggy bowed to no one, least of all her own insides.
She had to show those insides who was boss here.
So, combining a chocolate dipped snail with the white chocolate dipped cauliflower and the chocolate truffle that was currently dripping with an oozy cheese, she messed them all together like some sort of unholy sandwich and shoved the entire thing in her mouth and forced it down her throat.
Who’s the boss now, hmm stomach?
...Which actually, that was weirdly good.
Gross, she hated that she actually enjoyed that.
She’d have to try another combination next, after all, this was a punishment to her ungrateful stomach, not a reward for her taste buds.
Man, she had really thought that the first combination would’ve been gross.
What a disappointment.

Balls were exciting to Ko, there was always so much going on, like people dancing and eating and talking, and...and Enzo leisurely stretched out on a little platform that was far too high to reach on your own.
Ko tilted his head to the side. ”Zo, how’d you get up there?” He asked, calling out to his older brother.
Enzo froze for a second, only then just realizing that Ko was there at all. Then he stretched out and looked down at him. ”I jumped,” he responded casually, letting an aloof shrug fall off his shoulders.
Ko raised his brow. ”...Did you shift just to jump up there and then shift back? Why?” He questioned with a small shake of his head. That seemed like more work than it was worth if you were to ask Ko, but hey, maybe it was for the aesthetic or something like that. Enzo did a lot of things for the aesthetic, as for what that aesthetic was, Ko wasn’t quite sure.
Enzo stayed quiet for a minute or so before he cleared his throat and looked away from Ko. ”...Maybe, but I just needed to get up here, okay? It’s the best place to observe the ball without actually being part of it,” he explained and gestured vaguely out to the ballroom as if to prove his point.
Well...if anything, he probably did have a pretty good view up there.
Curiosity prickling at his skin, Ko reached out and placed his hands on the wall, trying to push himself up to climb to the top where his brother was.
It...didn’t work and he ended up sliding back to the ground.
Letting out a small “oomph” Ko got back up to his feet and dusted off his tuxedo, trying to make sure he didn’t ruin it or something.
Ko was notorious for being a little...rough on his clothes, and he really didn’t wanna have to get this patched up too.
Not that Papa ever minded, he actually seemed to enjoy sitting down for awhile to patch up Ko’s clothes for him, but even if he enjoyed it, Ko was old enough by now to know that his father was a busy man, being king and all, and he always felt a little guilty every time he went up to him with another torn article of clothing.
So ideally, this tux should stay as it was now, and if Ko could make it through the entire ball without ripping it somehow, he would give himself one of those gold star stickers that said “you were terrrrrific!” On it or something like that because at that point he would deserve that sticker, okay?
Shaking his head slightly, Ko looked back up to Enzo. ”I can’t reach you,” he admitted with a small, sad sigh.
Enzo shrugged in response. ”Not enough room for two people up here anyways, so it’s probably for the best,” he said, voice sounding a little distant with how high up he was.
Ko let out a puff of breath. ”Can’t you just come back down here? It’s getting hard to talk like this!” He explained, his hands cupping the edges of his mouth to help his voice carry up to his brother.
Enzo fell quiet.

Then the silence dragged on into an uncomfortable drop and that’s when Ko’s eyes lit up in understanding.
”You can’t get down, can you? You got yourself all stuck up there with no way down, like a cat in a tree!” He realized, letting out a bark of laugh.
Enzo looked down at him, gripping the edge of the little platform he was on. ”You don’t need to shout it to the whole world, Ko!” He said hurriedly, and even from here, Ko could see his face begin to redden in embarrassment.
Ko snickered softly, grinning up at him. ”Ah don’t worry, I’ll go get a ladder to help you down, but don’t worry, if anyone asks, I’ll make up an excuse for the ladder, you just keep looking cool up there, I’ll be right back,” He promised and before Enzo could refuse, Ko was already off.
Only Enzo would get himself in a situation like that and not be able to get himself down. It was actually kind of amusing when he thought about it, and he probably would’ve stayed to laugh a little longer, but he did want to help his brother out, and he knew what it felt like it be laughed at and that wasn’t a great feeling.
So instead of embarrassing Enzo any further, Ko just hurried across the ballroom floor in his search for a ladder, little regard for the various other people that were already out there.
If he wasn’t careful, he’d probably run into someone.
With that thought in mind, Ko did make an effort to slow down, offering a couple friendly smiles to various guests as he weaved his way through them and towards the hallway that led further into the palace.
There wouldn’t be a random ladder out here, he’d have to go get one from the supply closet or something like that.
Hopefully no one would notice that he was gone and get worried or something.
As a prince, he really should be there to socialize, and he was, he really was, but right now one of his brothers needed him and he was determined to help him out.

Chayse Evlyn Sallows

interacting with Khairee Grimm & company Would you believe that this was Chayse's first time going to a ball? Of course, she had the opportunity to go to balls before, ever since she was forced to enroll at the Training Academy for Shifters. She may or may not have gotten in trouble with the law ... ya know, stealing once too many times. She wasn't blessed to have a family that loved her, instead she had a mother that abandoned her at birth, which lead her to living in an orphanage. However, Chayse managed to escape the hold of the orphanage, because she believed that living on the streets by herself was better than that of a crowded orphanage.
Chayse had survived her first shift by herself and wasn't lucky enough to have a family to celebrate with, however, she didn't mind. She remembered soaring above the clouds, her wings spread out so far that she couldn't believe that she was able to shift into such a magnificent size. She remembered shifting back to her human self and being slightly disappointed in returning to the streets of Mfalwen.
She has only ever shifted 3 times since her first shift at thirteen years old, and she was now sixteen years old. She kept her shifting being quiet and not many purebred dragons roamed the kingdoms anymore -- rare, but most shifters were mixed with something else. It wasn't like she didn't want people to know but being reserved was just who she was; why flaunt?
"Chayseeeeee," a voice dragged her from her thoughts; cold green eyes shifted from their dazed stare towards the person standing next to her. "Earth to Chayse," the sing-song voice came again. Chayse narrowed her eyes as she stared down at the shorter girl, Saffron.
"What?" The sixteen year old female grumbled as she looked back to the bustling ballroom. "You should probably go find your brother, Saffron." The tan skinned girl said, her tone completely dismissive. Saffron pouted slightly before making her way down the stairs, her navy blue dress bobbing with each step.
Chayse soon made her way down the stairs but making her way towards the edge of the party. She was dressed in a flattering black dress, that she never would be able to afford if she didn't attend the Academy. [ dress reference: x ]
Her icy green eyes made her their way around the ballroom once again before landing on two figures in the distance. One was on a platform high above the ground, and the other was seemingly whining about not being able to get up there -- or so it looked like. Just as she was watching the two figures from a distance, the one on the ground started walking her way. He seemed like he was a mission. He -- oh, oh, it was one of the princes.
Chayse had only met them a couple of times; she tended to avoid the royalty. Maybe it was jealousy, maybe it was because she knew she would never fit in with them -- regardless of their personalities or not. She wasn't even close to being in the same social class as they were, even though she dressed like she was -- again, all because of the Academy's money. Not hers. She felt like she was on borrowed time.
She had lost track as to where the prince had gone but as she turned to make her way further away from the crowd, she ran right into someone. She let out a decent yelp as she staggered back and immediately went on the defense, "watch where you're going!" Her voice was tight as she rubbed at her forehead; the pain throbbing and she knew that she would be facing a gnarly headache after that collision.
Chayse took a few steps back, her heels clicking on the ground as she did so. It didn't even occur to her to look up at the person she ran into, because her eyes were focused on the ground as she continually rubbed her forehead. Ouch that definitely hurt.
The female slowly pushed back her curly hair, tucking her behind her ears, before glancing up at the person she had run into. OF COURSE. It was none other than the prince she had just been observing. She didn't lose her composure but her face flushed. "My apologies..." She mumbled as she gave a weak smile of apology towards Ko. |

Canna Kingsleigh irish setter shifter
To get things started, Canna had no problem with the idea of balls. They were fun and offered a chance to meet up with friends in a setting that wasn’t the same ol’ place. There was music and fun, laughter and happiness, and there was even snacks and drinks. Nothing about that seemed bad or wrong, and Canna would agree there. It was nice to get the chance to be a part of something as grand as this, but all of that greatness over royal balls was in theory. The truth of the matter here was that, to her, balls were just some over glorified party where kids from all over got to flash around and show off and act like a bunch of posh peacocks that were too stuck up for just anybody to come up and talk to them. For the kids it was all about being the best. For the adults it was all about which kids were the best. It was dumb, people were dumb, Canna had to get dressed in some dumb fancy outfit - granted, she had been able to get away with a simple tux rather than a dress considering dresses were just gross and hard to work with and at least tuxes still had some semblance of pants to them - and she was expected to act all dumb and proper.
If anybody dared test what little patience she had right now for all of this somebody was going to get stabbed tonight.
Canna hadn’t arrived all that long ago, but it was apparently long enough for Apathy and Halloween, two of her cousins she had arrived to the ball with, to have migrated away to no telling where. Probably had to go run off to some group that was exclusive to those who were the children of duchesses and dukes and whatnot. For as much as this ball sucked for Canna, she could only imagine how much more it sucked for those kids. They really had to make an appearance and be the epitome of perfection. They had to represent their entire district and family and that just sounded exhausting. Canna couldn’t be more glad than she was right now that she wasn’t some next in line kid. She’d have to be all prim and proper and wouldn’t be able to do half of the things she enjoyed. She’d have to act like some kind of obedient dog that listened to every order given. Which, yeah yeah, she knew she was a dog shifter, but there was a difference between a friendly dog and a feral one, and Canna liked to stay on the side of feral dog. It was more fun that way.
Deciding to use the fact that she wasn’t a kid in the spotlight to good use, Canna did what Canna did best, and that was bend the rules, make up her own, and do as she pleased.
Downside to that was that there wasn’t really a whole lot she could do here. She had almost tried getting away with sneaking in without wearing anything fancy, but she had decided against it. Formal wear was gross, stiff, and just outright hard to move in, but if anything she had to admit she looked pretty good in a suit. She had even managed to get her unruly hair somewhat tamed for this event and Canna would admit she cleaned up rather nicely. But perhaps there were some things she could get away with here.
It didn’t take long for her mischievous gaze to set its sights on a nearby waiter. Clearly he was one of the waiters who catered more to the adults what with the champagne glasses on the tray he was carrying. A smirk crossed her features as an idea started to form in her mind. It wouldn't be much, but a party was not the same without a little bit of alcohol. She knew that if she had to pull this off she would need to do a real good job at sneaking, but Canna was, like, level 100 sneak at this point. She wasn't a cryptid like some of her cousins were, but she liked to think that she hung out with them enough that some of their cryptidness had rubbed off on her.
Making sure she was both as quiet and as inconspicuous as possible, Canna started making her way over to the waiter. So far he was standing in one place and she was able to easily walk up from behind him. So long as it stayed that way she could stay hidden and then just reach around and grab a glass or two. It would work out, she was sure of it.
Soon Canna was right where she wanted to be. She had managed to sneak up behind the server, and just as she was getting ready to grab one of the champagne glasses, a loud call rang across the ballroom, announcing the arrival of Princess Elari Grimm.
That’s when everything went downhill for Canna.
For the first few seconds after Elari had been announced all Canna could do was look up at the princess and stare with wide blue eyes. As soon as she got a good look at the crown princess she felt heat rise up to her face and she stood up straighter. There had been a lot of other girls at the ball all dressed up in gorgeous outfits and Canna couldn’t deny there had been a few she peeked a glance at for longer, but Elari was the only girl Canna just could not take her eyes off. She looked beautiful in her icy aesthetic gown - not that she never not looked beautiful, this ball gown just really emphasized that beauty of hers - and Canna just couldn’t help herself as she continued to stare at her. It was like watching a heavenly goddess step down to earth from the heavens to greet her people, and all Canna was was some hopeful little human that wished she could get a one on one chat with a literal goddess.
That would be so nice, being able to get Elari’s attention like that and having a one on one conversation with her. Just that thought alone had Canna feeling like she was getting weak in the knees, and instinctively she reached out to grab something that would steady herself; unfortunately the thing her hand slammed into was the nearby waiter’s face.
Having expected a surface that wasn’t alive, the feeling of warm, sentient face flesh startled Canna to the point that she stumbled forward and right into the waiter, causing them both to lose balance and fall unceremoniously into the floor.
And, of course, it was just Canna’s luck that the tray of champagne fell right onto her.
That knocked her right back into reality, her dumb champagne-soaked reality.
”Idiot,” she growled more to herself than anything. This wasn’t the first time she had had a mishap like this, but this was the first time she had fallen to the floor and gotten champagne all over her. All she could do as she got up was send the waiter something of a death glare and then she marched off to go sulk somewhere, hoping that nobody had witnessed her fall from grace there.
If anybody had noticed her mishap there wasn’t any signs of it as Canna sped off toward the first room she could find. She hadn’t exactly thought about what she was going to do after running away from the main room, but she at least needed to get out of there and settle down so she could come up with some kind of plan. She should have probably headed for the bathroom to try and clean up, but there would probably be a few people in there and she really didn’t want her champagne covered self being the highlighted embarrassing news of the night.
It didn’t take Canna long to find a nearby room. She quickly sped toward it, so sure that nobody would be inside it. But, of course, that’s where she was wrong.
As soon as she realized who was also there inside the room Canna stiffened up all over again, no doubt her face redder than a tomato.
Elari was sitting just inside the room, looking as comfortable as could be, while Canna just stood there stiff, covered in champagne, and probably sweaty at this point too from everything. Basically she was just plain gross while Elari sat there as perfect as ever. Typically Canna liked to think of herself as a smooth talker, but in this instance even she knew that wasn’t the case here. And that was only proven to her when she opened her lips to speak and the only thing to come out was a rough, squeaky, ”Hi.” |

Listen, Ko was on a mission, he had to get a ladder to help his brother down and then both of them could mingle with the guests and maybe even find Papa and Baba...though, their fathers were usually kind of useless during events like this, even Ko wasn’t obvious enough to realize that.
When you put his fathers together in any sort of social event, they seemed to only have eyes and attention for each other, so even if Ko did find them, he kinda doubted he would get much out of them right now anyways.
So instead, he just focused on that ladder.
However apparently, he still wasn’t going slow enough and collided into someone.
Ko stumbled back, landing very clumsily on his back as he crashed into something, and as soon as it happened, he let out a small groan, sitting up to rub at his aching back.
That was going to hurt tomorrow, and what was worse was that if he kept doing things like this, he was definitely not going to get his sticker after this.
Then the person got all huffy with him and for the briefest moment, Ko felt his anger begin to rise.
He wasn’t an angry guy, he was usually pretty chill, but this was one of those situations where he honestly wasn’t that happy, he had been slowing down and being careful, she jumped out at him, and in a way, she had been the one to run into him, so the girl definitely didn’t need to get all angry at him.
Getting up to his feet, Ko was fully prepared to glare at the girl a little until she apologized. She must’ve realized who she was talking to or something. Ko didn’t like to wave his prince privileges around, he had a whole lot of problems with that actually, and this right here, was one of them.
People shouldn’t only be nice to him because he was a prince.
Deciding the way to deal with that was to simply be nice back in hopes that she wouldn’t feel forced into friendliness or something like that, Ko shook his head at her. ”Hi Chayse,” he greeted as he dusted off his tux.
He knew who she was of course, she was in the same year as he was, attended TAS with him, and was from Mfalwen, and Ko made it his business to know everyone...or at least as many people as he could, and she was no different.
”Anyways, now that you’re here, you can help me carry the ladder over here,” he told her simply, already moving again as he gestured for her to follow her.
He wasn’t all that upset about the crash anymore, not really, plus he had been more upset by the attitude he had originally received. In his opinion, there wasn’t any reason to treat anyone, royalty or otherwise with such anger at a simple mistake.
Plus, he honestly had slowed down, so the crash was also partially on Chayse and while he’s take blame for some of it, he wasn’t going to take blame for all of it.
But right now, that wasn’t important, he still had a ladder to find and he was very determined to find one and then get Enzo down from up there, and since Chayse was already here, she might as well help.

Elari Grimm snow leopard
Now, quite frankly, Elari had been completely absorbed in her book. It was one she had read before of course, but it was one of her favorites.
Fondly named: The Weirdest Frontier, it was a rather large science fiction novel set in space, with a young emperor having just lost his entire system to a frog alien for legal reasons, and so they decide to get married, but then a cult gets involved and things get really crazy from there.
She...she didn’t explain it very well, but she did rather enjoy it. It had been one of her favorite books ever since she could read, and well...she could relate to the young emperor. Dealing with all that stress over ruling a large amount of people, wanting to prove yourself to your family, having to bury your emotions deep inside and keep up a facade of a perfect, polite royal figure.
That was hard, and she couldn’t help but enjoy watching as he was stripped of everything he once knew and had to find an all knew normal.
His character growth was one of her favorite things about the series.
However the point was that she was completely drawn into the words in front of her and didn’t actually notice the appearance of someone else in the room until she heard a voice squeak out a quick hello.
Needless to say, she had been a little more than slightly surprised by the voice.
Jumping slightly, Elari composed herself quickly, not willing to show just how startled she was.
Quietly closing the book, Elari looked up to see a ginger haired girl with a soaked tux standing in front of her.
Elari tilted her head to the side, blinking owlishly at the other girl. She looked familiar, though Elari wasn’t sure she could entirely place from where.
Clearing her throat a little, Elari places the book down on the little table beside her and slid her legs down the chair until she was sitting in a much more proper way, her ballet slippers still peaking out from underneath her dress as she met the other girl’s gaze.
”...Hi,” she echoed back, trying to figure out exactly how she should handle this right now. Honestly, Elari hadn’t thought that anyone would find her in here, or even come in here in general. It was a pretty secluded room, most people didn’t even know it was here unless you had grown up in the palace like she had.
Yet still, someone had managed to find her and Elari was once again reminded that this was a ball, and as the crown princess of Elanaria, she really should be out there and making an appearance with everyone else, not stuck in here reading her favorite book for the 93rd time.
Looking the girl over, Elari paused as she was finally able to place where she had seen her before.
”I know you,” she started quietly, as if talking more so to herself than to the girl in front of her. ”You’re the stapler girl from the troubled kids class that I was asked to talk to before,” she said, voice soft.
C...C something.

She had been the girl that stabbed someone with a stabler and was thus sent to the troubled kids class. Elari had never been part of the class before, obviously, but she had been asked by the school to come and talk to the kids there and help them out.
The goal was that having the crown princess come and try to relate to them, they’d change their lives around for the better.
Elari paused to take in the wet tuxedo.
”...Maybe I should come talk to the class again.”
...Wait, had she said that out loud?
Quickly, heat rushed to her pale cheeks as Elari realized what she had said. It probably wasn’t a good idea to remind anyone of their past mistakes.
She cleared her throat, looking away, searching for anything to change the subject on.
”Are you...okay?” She finally asked as she brought her attention back to the girl, gesturing to the tuxedo. ”You’re all wet,” she commented lightly, placing her hands in her lap as she looked over at the girl.
This was...this was a little awkward, and Elari would like to return to her book, but she couldn’t just ignore the girl in front of her, and it had been her own fault for turning the conversation awkward, the least she could do was stick it out and make sure the other girl was alright.

This really wasn't ideal. Canna had wanted to meet Elari one on one, get a bit personal with her and all, but she really did not want to get up and personal with Elari while she was currently drenched in champagne and her face redder than her hair. She had wanted a moment with Elari to be magical. She had wanted to come in all smooth and suave and sweep the princess off her feet, like some kind of knight in shining armor or something cliche and grossly romantic like that. Instead she was just some knight in sticky alcohol and that did not make for a very good fairy tale at all.
Canna was starting to go over the possibility of just leaving the room as if nothing had happened, but that would be so dumb. What if this was her only chance to get to talk to Elari with it just being the two of them? It wasn't what Canna had wanted, but she supposed she had to take this chance. This was what she wanted - not under these exact circumstances - but if this was going to be the only chance she got then she needed to make it count. She was smooth. She was slick. She could pull this off and turn this terrible start into a wonderful ending. Canna had this under control. Everything was going to be okay.
With a breath to steady her nerves, Canna started to wipe her hands down her suit as if that would salvage the mess it was in. She looked back over to Elari, taking a moment to make sure that she was okay enough to speak normally, but right before she could even try to turn this interaction around Elari spoke up first and Canna instantly felt herself die on the inside all over again.
"You’re the stapler girl from the troubled kids class that I was asked to talk to before".
Elari remembered her.
There was a small part of the princess's memory dedicated just to Canna.
The canine shifter felt herself sway, but this time she was lucky enough to keep herself on her feet and out of the floor. She wasn't about to make an even bigger fool out of herself in front of Elari. She just wouldn't do that again.
She had to remind herself that just because Elari remembered her didn't mean Elari thought about her. Remembering somebody was different from thinking about somebody, and Canna highly doubted that the crown princess thought of Canna like she did Elari. There was no way Elari thought of her like that. She didn't share Canna's daydreams of them holding hands and skipping class to go have a picnic underneath a tall tree or go out and have a night on the town. Elari wouldn't think about that. She had a bunch of princessy stuff to think about, and that was okay, that was alright. Canna could understand that. Being princess was tough, she was sure, and Elari focusing on that was important. It meant the kingdom was in good hands.
But if it was such a good thing then why did Canna feel disappointed about that all the same?
These thoughts were broken when Elari spoke up again. At first Canna wasn't sure what the princess had just said, but after a moment her mind registered the words and all she could do was give out a half-hearted laugh that was between embarrassed and excited. "You totally should!" She started and realized her voice sounded way too enthusiastic about that. "I mean, uh, yeah, you could do that. Would really perk some people up, like me. She snapped at herself, but that didn't seem to do much for her. "Or, you know, maybe...maybe don't come back. Because then it's like...like, a reward. Yeah, a reward. Seeing the princess turns into a reward for all the bad kids and then they want to get in trouble to see you." She was just making this worse. What if Elari took this seriously and actually didn't make a guest appearance again? Then where would Canna get to see the princess? "Then again, maybe seeing you isn't a reward to everybody like it is for me. 'Cause, yeah, you know, seeing you is a reward for me." And now she really was sweating if only from all the warmth her blushing was creating.
Gah, why was she such a disaster when it came to Elari? Usually she was so charming and such a smooth talker. She wouldn't have this problem with any other girl. She didn't have this problem when she talked to other girls.
Fortunately Elari speaking up again got Canna to stop with her rambling. She glanced down at her tuxedo, letting out a slow sigh as if to finally admit defeat. "I'm...sorta fine. As fine as somebody can be while covered in champagne," she answered, finally able to make some kind of normal response between her otherwise flustered filled attempts at conversation. |

Unable to stop the faint blush from spreading across her face like a pink sunrise, Elari looked away and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. In a way it was reassuring to know that the other students at TAS actually did seem to appreciate her company in some way. Which...which it did make sense though, she was a princess and as such was supposed to be a beacon of good to the world, she was supposed to lift her fellow classmates up and prove herself worthy enough to one day lead them.
If she didn’t have the support of people like C...Candy? On her side, she would surely get usurped within the first week of her coronation, which she still hoped wouldn’t be for a very long time.
Still, even if having the princess come to a class every now and then was nice, it still wasn’t like it was any different than if one of her brothers had gone, or her fathers. Having one of her parents come to a class would have truly been a treat, for anyone involved.
Elari was just...well she had a hard time saying no when she was asked to do things, so she did end up going to classes and giving little talks fairly often. It wasn’t as good as a different princess could do, and Elari was quite certain of that.
A better princess would be able to visit all the classes and really, truly lift up her future subjects in a way that Elari would never be capable of. A better princess would be able to mingle with the guests at a ball without getting overwhelmed and hiding away with a book and chocolate. A better princess would’ve been able to remember the name of the girl in front of her.
All of this served as a reminder for Elari that she wasn’t as good of a princess as Elanaria deserved, but that shouldn’t stop her from trying.
Looking back over at C...Canon, Elari smiled sheepishly at her. ”Well, I’m afraid I’m not much of a reward, but it would be a good idea to see if I can come back someday, it was...fun to talk to you and everyone else there,” she told her politely, looking her over for a moment longer.
So champagne had been the cause of the damp tux, that was a shame, it looked like it would probably stain later, and it was such a nice suit, one that complimented her soft, light ginger hair and blue eyes rather well, in Elari’s opinion at least.
Elari had always found tuxedos rather complimentary on others, though not on herself. She seemed to work best in a dress, and she could admit that she did actually enjoy dressing up like this, it made her feel a little more like the princess she was supposed to be, as if at least for one night, she could pretend to be more than she was, better than she was.
”It’s a shame about your tux, but if it makes you feel any better, I think you look rather dapper in it, even if it is a little bit wet,” Elari told her as she got up from the chair, her blue and purple gown trailing across the floor behind her as she walked over to the other girl, stopping when she was about a foot away from her. ”I’m sure I could get it dry for you though, if you wanted,” she offered with a smile.
It wouldn’t be hard to help her dry the tux, and in fact, Elari was quite convinced that there was probably a spell she could use to not only dry the suit but remove the champagne stains entirely as well.
It wasn’t much, but she would like to help if she could.

interacting with Khairee Grimm & company Now it didn't entirely surprise Chayse when the young prince spoke her name; after all, he was of the royal family and probably should know the shifters that attended the same school he did. Safety and all, right? Right.
What did surprise her was the way he so promptly moved on into a subject of helping him. Help him? Get a ladder? What in the heck? What for? Her mind reeled with questions as to what made Ko need a ladder. Then it clicked in her mind -- Ko was talking to someone on a higher platform just moments before their collision. The other boy must have been stuck, that would be the only logical reason for the young prince to come running around the ballroom looking for a ladder, of all things, especially at a ball.
Regardless of who was standing in front of her, she let out a short laugh. She didn't move from her spot, but the prince had taken a few steps forward towards his apparent, but final destination. "You can ask me like a normal person," Chayse smirked. Royal or not, she was never one to take kindly to being ordered around, especially by someone the same age as her. They may have been the same age, but there was a bit of serious and distrust that rolled off the tan skinned female, where the male in front of her radiated with energy and acquisitiveness.
Crossing her arms over her chest, she tilted her head to the side; the gesture was one of a visible question, even before the verbal one left her mouth. "What could you possibly want with a ladder?" She knew what she saw earlier but there was no point in her trying to figure out the situation, especially when the answer could be so easily explained by the prince.
There was a sort of boldness to her, because even though she was embarrassed about running into him -- she was not gonna just blindly follow orders. She didn't come to the Academy just to be treated as if she was truly less, if that was the case, she would've stayed on the streets. Although, part of her knew that Ko meant no harm in his words but she needed to stand her ground because, her luck, she would be in a position like this one again. |

Canna Kingsleigh irish setter shifter
A momentary frown flickered across Canna’s face at Elari’s response. She didn’t like the sound of the princess saying she didn’t think of herself as that much of a reward. Hearing that roused up a good amount of emotions inside the canine’s stomach, emotions like sadness that Elari didn’t apparently think highly of herself. Emotions like anger toward anybody who made the princess think she wasn’t good enough. Emotions like guilt that she couldn’t just magically hand Elari the confidence she had. Everybody had their own issues, Canna realized that, but this was one of the few times she truly wanted to help somebody out. She didn’t know how she’d do it, but she was now determined to put in the effort and make Elari see herself as the reward she was, and if anybody tried to stop her, well, she was good with a stapler if anything. People tended to run away from a stapler more than they did a fist. Unless that person was a Cipher. They tended to run toward staplers.
Canna was sure she’d never forget the image of Birch Cipher stapling his tongue to the desk during class, and even if she forgot that she’d never ever forget the look of pure ecstasy and bliss that came over his face after he had stapled his tongue right onto the desk.
That...that had been something.
Tongue stapling aside, Canna was more than ready to fight for Elari if ever given the chance. Even if she was just a knight in sticky alcohol, she was a knight nonetheless and she would protect and defend her princess.
”You should give yourself more credit,” she started, finally able to bring herself back down from her earlier fluster to give something of a regular conversation. ”You’re an amazing reward to get, and I don’t mean that you’re, like, some prize to be won or something like that just because you’re the princess, that’s messed up and stuff. With or without the title you’d be a reward to anybody to have around, just you as a person, not you as royalty.” Okay, that was a little bit more heartfelt and mushy than Canna had originally been going for, but it was the truth, and she was going to stand by her words. She was mostly just glad that she had been able to get the words out without making a complete fool of herself again. Canna was even able to manage a genuine smile. It was small, but it was there. ”Either way, I do think you should come back if you have the time. Like I said, I’ll probably be there.” Considering how often she got herself into trouble there was no way she wouldn’t be there. Canna was a regular, and while she was pretty good at getting away with a lot of things, she kind of liked getting caught if only to continue establishing her dominance over the other “bad” kids. There were a few others that were regulars, but Canna liked to think that she was the most regular of the regulars, that she was the leader of the pack. Elari may be princess of the entire kingdom, but Canna was princess of the bad kids.
When the conversation jumped back to being about her tux, Canna took a moment to make sure she was completely calmed down from all her earlier panics. Elari was complimenting her, telling her she looked dapper in the tux even if it was wet. Typically Canna would find the use of the word “dapper” to be something to laugh about, but this time around she took it seriously, and if she could blush any harder than she already was then her face would have only gotten redder. ”You...you really think I look good in it? I mean...I know I look good, that’s a given, but…” She trailed off and glanced to the side away from Elari knowing that if she kept looking at the princess then she’d end up making a stuttering mess of herself all over again, and Canna really didn’t want to start that up again.
Elari’s next comment almost had Canna come undone again, but she managed to keep herself on her feet. Though while she kept herself steady she wasn’t able to stop herself from asking in a squeaky voice, ”Do you...do you want me to take if off so you can dry it?” Canna had no problems with her body, she had no reason to be embarrassed by it, but this was different. This was taking her tux off right in front of Elari and that was...that was a lot for her to take in. Of course, she clearly hadn’t thought about the use of magic to dry her suit off, but her useless brain wasn’t exactly taking the logical route here right now, not that it did that on a regular basis to begin with. |
