Elari Grimm snow leopard
Despite Dory being her familiar, Elari wasn’t always sure what he was thinking, it wasn’t because they didn’t have a close connection or anything like that...or at least, Elari had always thought herself to be close with the checkered rabbit, it was just that Dory did things his own way and Elari could respect that, if anything he was living up to the rabbit he was named after...even if Elari did have to full name him on occasion.
Every now and then, Dory would do something so...so Dory like that Elari had to pull out the big guns and place her hands on her hip as she gave the rabbit the best stink eye she could muster and go. “Dorian Elijah Khari Jacob Wilhelm Walvelon Grimm, you stop that” which...didn’t always work, but he would at least listen to her a bit more when she full named him.
Watching as he left, Elari shook her head slightly in mild irritation. It would be nice if Dory at least filled her in on all his schemes ahead of time, but by now she had learned to just roll with it.
”Im gonna be honest with you, Canna, I rarely know what that rabbit does,” she admitted with a small shrug as she looked up at Canna. Maybe that was bad, maybe everyone else with a familiar would look at her and Dory and tell her to get her stuff together, but they just didn’t understand how she and Dory worked, if they did they’d think differently.
Keeping her gaze on Canna, Elari tilted her head to the side. ”Do you have a familiar, Canna?” She questioned curiously, suddenly realizing that despite having spoken to Canna for most of the evening so far, she didn’t actually know whether or not the other girl was magical.
A lot of people were, though that didn’t mean everyone was and Elari honestly wasn’t sure which category Canna fit into when it came to magic, though she would certainly like to know, plus if Canna did have a familiar, maybe Elari could get some tips from her on how to control her own familiar.
...Not that Dory could ever be controlled, but hey, she could at least try, right?
If anything she would like it if he filled her in a little more.
Luckily, it wasn’t much longer until the checkered giant had returned, pushing himself through the rabbit for in her front door and standing upright, gently pawing at his face with his nose.
”...Well,” Elari started, looking down at him with her head tilted lightly to the side. ”Where’s the Calvary?” She inquired, still not even sure who Dory would have gotten.
”Oh he’s coming, he’s just a little slow is all,” Dory explained with a nonchalant flick of her large, spotted ears.
Just then the door opened and Elari eagerly looked on to see just who exactly this “Calvary” was, her eyes widening in excitement once she finally saw who it was, a small gasp escaping her lips.
”Baba!”
Scrambling out of the way, Elari rushed towards the door of her room and instantly pulled her father into a tight hug.
Of course Baba would be the Calvary, he had always been really handy for stuff like this and well, Elari knew she could always trust her parents with whatever she needed.
Holding on a little longer, Elari tightened her hug just a little, like she had always done when hugging Baba, ever since she was a child and had heard about what happened to him in his youth. It had started just that once and ever since then, every time she hugged him, she made it just a little tighter just in case he needed it.
Finally pulling back, she smiled happily up at him, taking a couple steps back into her room. ”I’m glad you’re here, Baba, things have been a little...crazy recently,” she admitted, gesturing around slightly with her hands as she glanced around her at the mess her room was in right now.
Looking from Canna, to the tux, to her soaked room and then finally back to her father, Elari let out a small, sheepish laugh. ”I should start at the beginning, shouldn’t I?” She asked, scratching at the back of her neck a little.
However she didn’t wait for an answer and instead instantly launched into her explanation, taking a deep breath as she prepared herself. ”So I was downstairs at the ball, but Kora came up to me and then so many other people did as well and I got really overwhelmed so I took some strawberries and some chocolate and I went to go read the Weirdest Frontier in a more quiet room, but then Canna came in and her tux was all wet-“ Elari paused for a second as she realized she hadn’t actually introduced her father to her new friend.
Stepping back a little, Elari grabbed Canna by the hand and pulled her forward. ”This is Canna by the way, Canna Kingsleigh,” she explained, lifting Canna’s hand up to show her father. ”So anyways, I offered to dry her tux for her,” Elari continued, dropped the other girl’s hand as she took another step up to her father. ”But I couldn’t use my usual drying spell book because I gave it to Enzo to help with the milk sweat and he still has it, so instead I used this book here-“ she paused to rush over towards her bed and picked up her copy of “Dumb Ways to Dry” showing it off to Baba by pointing to the cover.
”Obviously though, this isn’t a serious spell book since I got it from uncle Egg and I shouldn’t have used it anyways but I did and I accidentally set Canna on fire and so she had to take off her tux and stomp on it like this-“ Elari dropped the book and began stomping on it like Canna had done to the tuxedo earlier. ”But the fire wouldn’t go away and then the sprinklers turned on and got rid of the fire for us but in doing so it also soaked both of us and our clothes, and my room and we didn’t know what to do so Dory went to go get you and well, here you are,” Elari finished explained, letting out a long puff of breath as she finished her explanation and smiled up at her Baba.
There, now he was all caught up to speed.

Ephraim Grimm tiger
Wow, his first ever official ball, Ephraim was excited if he was being honest, he had so many dancing lessons under his belt, it would be nice to finally have a chance to put them to good use.
Except there was only one problem.
...There weren’t a whole lot of thirteen year olds here and the ones that were here were not interested in dancing, not even with him.
So after a couple more attempts that ultimately failed, Ephraim gave up on putting his dancing skills to use and instead found a table to sit out the rest of the ball, wallowing in his own misery; letting out a sad sigh from his lips as he stirred the straw around in his glass of raspberry punch, head resting in his hand as his elbows slouched onto the table. He knew it wasn’t proper table etiquette but at the moment he couldn’t find it in himself to care.
”Well, guess I’ll chalk dancing up to another useless princely skill,” he muttered under his breath, his honey orange eyes watching as the pink, fruity drink swirled around in the cup. This was pathetic, he couldn’t even find joy in his favorite kind of punch, maybe he should just give up and go back upstairs to find a good book and curl up with it for the rest of the night.
It would be a pathetic way to spend his first night without a bedtime, but maybe it would have to do.
Letting out another sigh, Ephraim leaned forward and grabbed the swirly straw with his mouth, drinking up a couple mouthfuls of the punch before he scooted himself off the chair and bowed his head down, sadly drinking his punch as he started to the stairs.
...That is until, something caught his eye. Or rather, should he say: someone.
Who was Enoch talking to over there?
Watching as his grayish white haired brother craned his neck to talk to someone, Ephraim followed his gaze until he found the person in question.
It seemed as if Enzo had gotten himself stuck like a cat in a tree.
Well...maybe he didn’t have to head back up yet.
With a newfound bounce in his step, Ephraim hurried over to where his brother was right as Enoch left to go socialize with everyone else.
So far, Enzo didn’t seem to realize that anyone else had approached.
Smiling to himself, Ephraim tried to play it cool and leaned against the wall, swirling his glass around like he had seen people do in the movies.
Clearing his throat, Ephraim glanced up towards his brother. ”Stuck, or just enjoying the view?” He asked, a slight smile pulling at his lips.
At first there was silence, and then...Enzo placed his hands on the edge of the platform and stared down at Ephraim. ”Enjoying the view, what about you? Weren’t you like...obnoxiously excited to show off your dance moves earlier? Why aren’t you out there, busting a move?” He asked curiously, obviously eager to change the topic off of himself.
Ephraim cringed a little at his words. ”Enzo, no one in their right mind says ‘bust a move’ anymore,” he told his brother with a slight chuckle. ”Frankly, I’m not even sure if they ever did,” he added under his breath.
Enzo fell quiet again for a moment or so. ”Really? I must be more disconnected from my peers than I thought,” he said and let out a sigh, plopping down with an arm dangling over the edge, face smushed against the platform. ”Not that it matters, we’ll all move on from slang eventually and be seen as cringey old people when we try to use it...like Papa,” he drawled out melodramatically.
Ephraim raised his brow.
Enzo seemed a little off.
”You’re drunk, aren’t you?”
”Shhhh, not so loud, gotta keep up an image after all...oh wait,” Enzo let out a puff of breath, blowing some of his dark black strands of hair out of his face. ”Besides I’m not drunk drunk, if anything I’m a little tipsy, that’s it.”
Ephraim gave him a look. ”Regardless of your reputation, drinking isn’t good for you-“ before he could continue, Enzo cut him off.
”You never told me why you aren’t out there.”
Oh that’s right, he hadn’t, had he?
Letting out a sigh of his own, Ephraim leaned back against the wall again, taking a large drink out of the straw. ”No one wants to dance,” he explained wistfully, gesturing vaguely out to the crowd of people.
”Wait what, people...people won’t dance with you?” Enzo asked, his voice growing cold as he scrambled back up into a sitting position. ”What kinda snobby, ungrateful little pieces of sh-“ he cut himself off, clearing biting his tongue before he said something to make it worse, not that Ephraim minded either way, really, it wasn’t like he had never heard swearing before.
Heck, even he had dappled a little in the art of swearing...only at school though, when Papa and Baba weren’t around...or his older siblings. They would probably be appalled if they had heard some of the things he had said just to test them out.
Looking back up at Enzo, Ephraim watched as his brother’s angry face poked back into sight. ”Tell you what, Ephi, as soon as I get down here, I’ll dance with you myself and find ever last twerp that refused to dance with you and give them a talking to-“ he promised and looked around the platform. ”Now...now I just gotta figure out how to get down, I was gonna wait for Ko to get back with the ladder but who knows how long that’ll take,” he rambled while he searched, knocking down a glass in the process.
Ephraim watched as the glass began to fall and reacting as fast as possible, he leapt out to catch it before it could shatter on the ground.
...Sadly he wasn’t fast enough and the glass hit the floor, shattering quickly.
Silence fell over the Grimm brothers as they stared down at the broken glass.
...
...
”...Oops,” Enzo said quietly.
Ephraim sighed and rolled up his sleeves. ”It’s okay, we just gotta clean it up before anyone steps on it,” he explained and closed his eyes, muttering a spell under his breath.
Just as the spell escaped his lips, tiny bubbles encased every single piece of glass, merging together to form one giant bubble that carefully scooted across the floor and towards the kitchen, ”There, the bubble should do the rest,” he said with a firm nod of his head before looking back up at Enzo.
His brother returned his look with a wide eyed one of his own. ”How’d you learn that spell? I don’t even think I could do that...”
Ephraim shrugged lightly, looking shyly down at his feet. ”I saw Papa do it once and asked if he could teach me, he’s really good at magic you know, I guess that’s why he led a coven when he was our age,” he admitted with a small, tentative smile.
Honestly, Ephraim admired Papa immensely, him and Baba both, if he could be even just a smidge like them when he grew up, he would be more than pleased with himself.
As if thinking about him summoned him, just then Papa walked over to join Ephraim and Enzo.
Papa was wearing a rather extravagant suit, with a long, flowing, purple cape covered in stars trailing behind him, his crown perched upon his head full of raven black hair and a warm smile across his face.
”What did you see me do?” He asked as he approached, stopping for a moment to look up at Enzo. ”...Enzo, are you stuck?” He asked.
Enzo’s face flushed red. ”No I’m-“ Papa gave him a look. ”...yeah, I’m stuck, Ko was supposed to come with a ladder but he still isn’t back,” he explained with a small shrug.
”Getting stuck somewhere is nothing to be ashamed off, Enzo,” Papa told him, craning his neck to look at the teenager. ”Now, as for getting you down...” Papa dusted off his hands and took a step back to assess the situation.
Now, Ephraim already had an idea on how they could get Enzo down...but it was tempting to watch and see what Papa would come up with. His father was usually very smart, that was one of the things that Ephraim admired about him.
”Jump and I’ll catch you!”
...Of course even the most intelligent people had their bad days.
Ephraim opened his mouth to object when he paused.
This...this could be pretty amusing.
Weighing his options, Ephraim took a step back and picked his own drink back up again, settling for the option to simply watch instead.
Enzo looked down at Papa. ”Did you say jump?” He questioned. ”...Well okay, if that’s what you think is best...” He agreed and just like that, Enzo flung his entire body off the platform and right towards their father.
Ephraim watched as Enzo fell from the platform and Papa extended his arms out to catch him.
Enzo collided with Papa and Papa wrapped his arms around him, stumbling back a little before falling to the ground, making sure to shield Enzo from the impact of the fall.
Papa’s back hit the ground and he let out a loud “oomph” which was then followed by a much softer “owe” from him.
Eyes wide, Ephraim put his drink down and hurried over to his brother and father. ”Papa, are you okay?” He asked hurriedly as Enzo got off him and looked down at him with an equal amount of concern and worry. ”...Papa?” Enzo asked, voice soft.
Papa let out a couple more gruff noises of uncomfortableness as he slowly perched himself up a little, blinking a couple times to get the haze from the fall out of his eyes. ”Don’t-don’t worry about me, I’m fine, just...not as young as I used to be, apparently,” Papa explained as he slowly got up to his feet, gritting his teeth as he silently seethed.
Instantly both Enzo and Ephraim reached out to help him.
”I think I’m just going to...going to sit down for a minute, I should be as good as new by the time your baba comes back,” Papa promised and sent them both a reassuring smile.
However...that did bring up another question. Ephraim tilted his head to the side. ”...Papa, where is Baba?” he inquired, suddenly keenly aware of the absence of his other father.
Papa smiled in response. ”Dory came to get him, apparently Elari needed him for something,” he explained, a hand on his back. ”I asked if I was needed as well and he told me no, I’ll tell you what, that rabbit has an attitude problem,” Papa said pointedly, however his expression softened before long. l”Reminds me a lot of my Dori, actually...”
As his father trailed off, Ephraim glanced to the floor.
Right.
Dori.
Ephraim hadn’t ever met her, she had been Papa’s familiar before Nat, however she had died during the war. He had heard plenty of stories about her though, and had seen the statue in the royal gardens dedicated to her.
She seemed like she had been a great friend to Papa and Ephraim would always feel a little bad that he never got to meet her in person.
”Come on Papa, let’s find you somewhere to sit...I’m sorry about hurting you, I didn’t mean-“ Just as Enzo tried fo lead Papa off, Papa shook him off.
”Now don’t blame yourself for that, Enzo, it was my idea and I’m far more concerned about you than I am about me, I’ll be fine, I just need to sit down for a bit, but don’t let that stop you two from enjoying the party,” he told them, already making his way over to a nearby empty table, still resting a hand on his back.
Ephraim and Enzo shared a look and immediately followed after him.
”Papa, I can’t focus on the ball now, not when you’re hurt, besides these things are never that fun for me anyways,” Enzo explained and gestured vaguely around. ”I was only trying to get down to dance with Ephraim because no one else would-“ just as the worlds slipped out of his mouth, Papa froze.
Stopping in his tracks, Papa looked back to Ephraim, blue eyes wide with concern. ”No one would dance with you?” He asked, voice and Ephraim found himself nodding along.
Papa stayed quiet for a minute and then straightened his back, gritting his teeth a little in the process. ”Well, we can’t have that, now can we? Come along Enzo, we’ll all dance together,” he said and instantly started walking towards the ballroom instead of the table he had been originally reaching for.
Ephraim shared another look with Enzo.
”But...but Papa, what about your back?” Enzo asked, voice full of concern as he hurried after their father.
Papa waved off his worry. ”I’m fine, I can rest later anyways,” he promised indignantly.
Ephraim sighed and followed after them both. He knew by now that there would be no convincing his father otherwise, so he might as well at least try and help him while he could.

((Double feature time fools-)) ((Also sorry if these are bad, I'mtyping on my phone rn and it is a jerk)) ○ Benji Newmann ○
Spring Ball || Giant Panda/Chinese Mountain Cat || @open Benji fidgeted nervously with his bow tie, lips curving slightly downwards as he surveyed the crowds. He hadn't done much this evening, and he still felt exhausted. Instead of trying to fit in further, the boy had found himself a secluded spot on the edge of the room, sitting against a wall. This was his first 'official' ball, and it all felt somewhat surreal. The shimmering crowds, the lavish food, the atmosphere… he was getting a little caught up in it all, to be honest.
Sighing quietly, Benji glanced down at the gilded cage attached to his belt that held Mr. Chirps. His familiar was dressed in a similarly fashioned suit to Benji himself, one that had taken him ages to stitch but still looked wonderful. At least, Benji thought so. A cricket in a suit wasn't exactly the traditional definition of 'wonderful'. Mr. Chirps seemed ecstatic at the ball, at least- though maybe that was just because he was getting Benji's scraps. Still, the cricket let out a reassuring chirp at the boy's gaze, as if to say, 'You're doing great. Let's stay a bit longer. Can I try some fondue?'
"That'll probably kill you," Benji sighed, tapping the ground with a free hand. "I don't think chocolate is good for crickets."
Mr. Chirps lowered his head, chirping once. 'How sad.'
Rolling his eyes, Benji gave the cricket a half-pet through the bars of the cage. To be honest, he had been thinking about calling his parents to leave the ball early. While the other students might be fine just partying or… whatever they were doing, Benji would much rather have been studying for the last few units of school before the inevitable waves of tests began. Spring had crept up swiftly, and he wanted to make sure he finished off the school year strongly. Benji was doing pretty well in his classes, but… one could never be too careful. Besides, he didn't even really know anyone here. Names were hard.
But, of course, that's exactly what his mom would say he was here for. 'Balls are for socializing Benji', 'You need to talk to people more Benji', 'Make some friends beyond that damn cricket Benji'. There was no way she would let him leave early. Benji was stuck here for at least a few more hours, whether he liked it or not.
Sighing again, Benji pushed himself to his feet, brushing off his suit so it looked presentable again. It hadn't gotten particularly dirty- the floors were incredibly clean here, surprisingly. Rolling his neck briefly, Benji began walking towards the food table. "Fondue, you said?" he asked Mr. Chirps.
The cricket gave him a hopeful look, turning around in his cage. 'Yes please!'
"Hmmm…" Benji shrugged. "Maybe we'll start with some cheese fondue and see how you're doing. I still don't think chocolate is a good idea."
'You're a coward, Benji Newmann.'
☼ Lesley Moore ☼
Spring Ball || Chameleon/Box Jellyfish/Python || @open Lesley was having a great time. That was definately not at all sarcasm and they hated this. Nope, not at all.
Stupid balls. Stupid parties. Stupid people. Where the hell was Atlas, anyways? They needed someone to commiserate with.
Lesley sulked at a table in the corner, head lying on their arms as they absentmindedly scrolled through their phone. There wasn't anything good on there, either. Most of Lesley's school friends were just posting photos of them somehow having a great time at this godforsaken school function. Sighing, they slapped their phone onto the table, rolling their eyes. Life was suffering. What else was new?
The night had actually started off promising. That was the most disappointing part, honestly. Lesley had arrived eager to enjoy a night with their friends, feeling rather comfortable in their blue ruffled dress shirt and black pants. It was hard for Lesley to find formal outfits they felt comfortable in, but tonight they had made an effort. Too bad, then, that all their friends seemed to either not want to hang out with them or had vanished into thin air. COUGH COUGH ATLAS ANSWER MY MESSAGES FOOL
Which left Lesley alone.
And listen, Lesley didn't mind being alone. In fact, most of the time they were pretty fine on their own. Being alone was peaceful, quiet. You didn't have to worry about being in anyone's way, or using proper etiquette, or dressing in an outfit that didn't look like you dressed yourself at 3am in pitch black.
But being alone at a party sucked.
What the hell could you even do? Dance by yourself? Gross and creepy. Eat? That's how you get fat. Try and meet someone new? ...okay that one was valid. But Lesley hadn't wanted to make new friends tonight. They wanted to chat, exchange Spring Break stories, maybe even gossip if they were feeling spicy. Instead, they just sat there alone at their table, a thin scowl building on their features.
Trying to shake it off, Lesley turned back to their phone, scrolling through the newest photos. Maybe, if they tried really hard, they could imagine they were there in those photos with their friends.
Or maybe not.

Mallory Ethels goliath birdeater & koi fish Mallory flushed at the sound of Eggy's laughter, entirely due to embarrassment over the matter. Mallory was a bit more used to making memes rather than being one.
And still, a huff of laughter in return escaped her mouth as she responded in an attempt to simultaneously calm her fumble and get drawn into the amusement, "Lucky for me there's no physical proof of them?" At least, Mallory was hoping for a lack of physical proof. Some people just loved to see her wrong.
Well, maybe not loved, but the way Nixie leaned her body between the two girls talking to pick something off a platter and intruded upon the conversation with a little grin on her face has Mallory betting otherwise. "Think again, M! And nice to see you, E." the mouse-bee gleefully input wagging the camera hang around her neck before popping a cherry tomato into her mouth. Unfortunately, before Mallory even had the hope to convince Nixie of ridding the world of what was likely some of the worst pictures of Mallory, the girl had moved on.
Mallory was left with little hope as the evil, little sprite- Mallory refused to think that Nixie was anything but that, because by all accounts, when your name rhymes with pixie, how could you not be one- danced off with her camera to create some more incriminating photos of everyone else on the floor.
She gave an audible sigh of defeat for Eggy. "Can't wait for the next club meeting then." Mallory had been hoping for a good selection of new spring break memes without an addition of her face mingled in somewhere.
Shaking off the absolute horror that awaited her, Mallory scrunched her nose as Eggy threatened Bee in such a way. "What did Bee ever do to you again?" she couldn't but question. Unless Mallory was just off in her assumptions and bad taste was just a common thing amongst other teens nowadays and Mallory was just missing out. Darn taste buds and their inability to enjoy anything.
And yet, nothing was as terrifying as the fact that Eggy had been looking for something disgusting to eat. She was horrified and needed to voice that fact. "I am horrified." No, she was beyond horrified. "I am beyond horrified. Like- as horrified as a- a- quick, give me something horrifying to express my horrified-ness."
But then! Mallory sunk into a vat of comfort and familiarity as Eggy continued a little further into the conversation. For like two seconds before things got weird again. But Mallory wanted to be more focused on the good part of her most recent statement as opposed to the part Mallory was going to question afterwards.
"Food is such a waste of time!" A statement that Mallory couldn't find any more true.
And yet, even the most true of statements was left with Mallory questioning everything. And she meant e v e r y t h i n g. "Okay, but I did not see us turning the conversation into anything you just mentioned. Uh- one second, let me pick out the strangest part of that." Naked on the bathroom floor- Mallory was hoping she meant a recently very clean and unused bathroom- or the actual birding- something Mallory was still surprised to see such a lack of.... in which, her defense for not doing so was the unfortunate lack of tarantula fish in the wild- or the entirety of the death sentence. Gosh, she really needed that question answered, "Okay yeah, so, is the floor at least clean in the bathroom or- or are we going gross?"

Canna Kingsleigh irish setter shifter
Familiars were a weird bunch of creatures. Canna knew full well how they worked, and while usually they were meant to be a partner in crime, they were still magical creatures with a mind of their own. Canna's familiar was no exception, and while she loved the little Beagle more than anything, he wasn't as in tune with Canna's trouble making side. If anything Canna was sure the Beagle was there to act as a sort of impulse control for her, a voice of reason. It didn't always work, but sometimes she'd at least stop to think if what she was about to do was actually worth it or not.
It seemed like Elari had the same problem with her own familiar judging by her statement. Canna couldn't help but give a small laugh, amused that not even the princess had a familiar she could completely control or understand.
Just as she was about to say something about her own familiar, Elari spoke up with a question of her own; Canna already had an answer since it was something she had almost answered before the question had even come to light. "Yeah, I do. His name is Galoshes, so, uh..." She paused in her words, looking down at her feet for a second. Come to think of it Galoshes was a really weird name compared to something like Dory. Elari wouldn't judge her for that, right? She hoped not. Then again, this was Elari, and Canna doubted she would be as cruel as to judge the name of somebody's familiar. "He's a Beagle, and honestly, he's kinda lazy, but I love him anyway. He puts up with me, I put up with him, it's still a loving relationship." Seriously, Canna loved her familiar, and if anything happened to him she'd be beyond sad. He could be a bit frustrating at times with his lazy he could be and how he tried to stop her from rushing into certain things or doing something he deemed as stupid, but that was just how it was. "Honestly, I'm just glad I was able to have a familiar." She stopped, realizing how that could be taken in a few different ways that weren't all that great, and quickly added, "I mean, I'm just...I've got magic from my mom, and it's some pretty cool magic, but I'm... I'm not the best at it. I wouldn't have been able to do anything you just did." She knew the basics of magic and how to work simple spells, but her magic wasn't adept enough for it to be something she relied on. Canna knew she was lucky to have enough magical abilities to connect with a familiar, but beyond that she wasn't exactly the most magical magic person around.
Before she could go on and ramble about familiars and her lackluster abilities with magic, Dory returned with...a surprising lack of calvary; however, it didn't take but another minute or two before the door opened up to reveal who the familiar had gone to get.
See, Canna probably should have felt a stronger reaction to being caught wet and shirtless by one of the kings who also happened to be one of Elari's dads, but all she managed was a weak smile and then a quick wave over to the king as if that would tone down any awkwardness there might be - though it seemed like King Khari was mainly focused on the fact that his daughter had rushed over to him to pull him into a tight hug. She stood there while Elari greeted her dad and went on to tell fill him in on everything that had happened to get them to this moment. It became pretty clear to Canna that Elari's dad was pretty used to these sort of things as he listened patiently to his daughter, nodding in acknowledgement from time to time. It was obvious to Canna that he was seriously listening to his daughter and taking in every word she said, and while King Khari acknowledged Canna's presence he still made sure to focus on Elari and her explanation until she had finished saying everything she wanted to say.
After a moment Elari's dad finally spoke up, and rather than sound annoyed or frustrated or anything negative about any of this, he just what sounded to Canna like an amused chuff. "Here, we'll focus on getting the two of you dried off and cleaned up. We'll worry about everything else," he gestured with his arm to the rest of the room, "later."
There were a lot of different ways this interaction could have gone, but Canna was glad to see that Elari's dad wasn't angry that he had been pulled away from the ball for something like this. "Now, I'm sure we've got some extra tuxes around here for Canna." King Khari offered a nod toward her before looking back to Elari. "And unless you were completely set on wearing your dress all night, I know there's others you can change into to finish the ball out," he suggested with a warm smile. It was clear to Canna that he just wanted his daughter and, now by extension Canna, to enjoy her night at the ball rather than have something ruin it for her. She also had to admit that his solution was...a pretty good one, and probably something they should have thought of themselves, but in her defense, it was pretty hard for Canna to think completely straight in the situation she was currently in. Plus it made perfectly clear sense to her that one of the Elarania kings would be able to come up with a solution, no matter how simple, right on the spot like that, and King Khari had more than likely been dealing with all sorts of antics with his kids - assuming these things happened a lot with the royal family. If they were anything like her family, then Canna could only imagine the wild stuff they got into.

(Okay! Put these up from my phone but went back and edited the formatting, sorry if they're a bit short!)
The Ganim siblings were used to there balls by now. The two being older students had gone through this a couple times already and both felt at ease in the crowds. Perhaps it helped that they’re were particularly precocious and personable as well. Eliana was chatting happily with family friends while Eydan had occupied himself with the food tables. Neither stood out particularly from the crowds, though their energies and charisma always seemed to draw others in. Eliana, a bright and bubbly individual and Eydan a cool and collected young man for his age. They’d been raised with manners and learned how to behave in these situations. “Well I cant wait to hear back from you all, especially on Delia’s shifting party Mr. and Mrs. Mureaux.” The sister beamed a happy smile to the adults before nodding and bowing a light greeting, “I’ll be off to find Eydan now, but thank you all for talking with me!” With that she turned lightly on her heels and went to find her brother. Tucking a small strand of deep brown hair back behind her ear once more. A light sigh escaping her lips once out of ear shot of the group of adults. Eydan looked up, hazel eyes searching for his sister, a weasel’s head poking from his breast pocket and yawning widely. He passed a bit of cracker to his familiar before the creature, Lux, disappeared once more. “So, how are the family friends?” He managed through a half mouthful of food. His sister appearing at his side and grabbing herself a small plate as well. “Oh as happy about their successes as ever.” An eye roll accompanied the comment and a sarcastic laugh slipped as well. With that, the siblings turned back to face the ball room and continued eating quietly, each settling into a comfortable silence.
Allelujah (Lulu) Chital Lulu found herself near to a small group of younger kids, those who were still unsure of what to be doing. She didn’t mind these sorts of events, but this was still.....a lot we’ll say. Her normally unruly curly hair was pulled back into a twisted bun at the nape of her neck. Though strands were delicately pulled and placed around her face to frame her features. Her mother had made extra care to pick those strands perfectly. She fiddled with the edge of her sleeve, a habit she’d had for many years and showed on nearly every long-sleeved piece of clothing she wore. Though this being a new piece of clothing the edges hadn’t been frayed by her forgetting quite yet. Her eyes moved over the crowds, recognizing plenty of her classmates and smiling in greeting to those who acknowledged her. “You should calm your hands” the small voice echoed in her head and it made her jump, though she laughed and nodded. Her familiar, Noris, a Marquesan kingfisher, ruffled his feathers in annoyance to her and snapped his bill to make his point further. Lulu laughed and nodded, folding her hands in front of her, “You sound like my mother Nor.” She reached up and gave his head and gentle scratch with her finger before looking back out to the crowd. “Let’s go find someone, I’m getting bored over here.” With that she flicked some more hair out of her eyes and began into the crowd, her gait slow and in no obvious rush.
Kafzel and Selaphiel Lammergeier & Carpet Python - Lammergeier & Amethystine Python Selaphiel and Kafzel. Quieter twins who made no effort to be noticed or seen always. Kaf the much more introverted of the two, and Seely always trying her hardest not to blush when given recognition. They stood together, nearest some windows. stood much taller than his more demure sister, and they appeared very much as twins. The two shared platinum blonde, nearly snowy hair. Kaf kept his cropped and short at the sides with a bit to play with at the tops, while Seely had grown hers long and flowing. Their skin tones were nearly the same, Seely with just a splashing of freckles across her cheeks. Beyond that, the major differences between the Kaase twins were their eyes. Kafzel's were a deep mossy green color. Pools of dark jade water. While Seely's were like her mother's, soft blue in tone and framed by dark lashes. Airy and light in tone and soft to look at. Though often it was hard to get a full gaze from Seely before her eyes averted out of embarrassment or anxiety. “Are you ready for this year?” Seely questioned lightly glancing to her twin brother. Her voice soft and almost bell-like in tone. Kaf shrugged in response, “Shouldn’t be much different than every other year.” Once more their difference shown, his voice more gruff and a bit edgier. At times it came off harsh but, he never meant for that. He shook his head then and looked down to Seely, “You?” Another shrug. “I just hope people remember my name finally.” She laughed a little, a soft quiet sound, before looking ahead once more. Kaf sighed and nodded, “I mean it’s doubtful but you can dream right.” He smiled teasingly to his sister and received and small prod to his side with her bony elbow.

Eglantine Grimm peacock
People were so entertaining, specifically people like Mallory that gave such extreme reactions to such simple things. Honestly, Eggy couldn’t find anything else quite as entertaining as this, at least not in the moment.
Watching as Nixie casually made her presence known, Eggy smirked at the other girl, giving her a fake salute. Nixie was another well known creature of chaos and as such, Eggy had to respect her, one creature of chaos to another, however it was probably due to the fact that they were both so chaotic that their chaos didn’t really mix.
Nixie caused chaos by humiliating people and getting out those juicy stories for the public to read, Eggy just sort of existed in an eternal - or eggternal haha - state of utter chaos, striving to outdo herself every single day. It was also a different kind of chaos than her Cipher-Grimm cousins and their Cipher cousins had, there were all sorts of different levels of chaos and sometimes they blended well - like Eggy and Bee - and sometimes they didn’t.
Looking back over at Mallory, Eggy shook her head lightly at the other girl. ”Mal, what you’ve gotta learn is that there’s a certain kind of way to deal with people like Nixie,” she explained, placing a hand on Mallory’s shoulder. ”And that way is to just completely and utterly destroy the concept of shame, no shame, no problems,” she explained and smirked, taking a small step back from Mallory. ”See, watch-“ Quickly, Eggy turned back over to Nixie as she left. ”Hey Nixie! Take a picture of this!” She called out to the older girl, quickly lifting up the edges of her dress and hoisting them well above her head.
She was wearing underwear though, it was fine.
Shaking her body a little bit, Eggy let out a laugh and dropped her dress back down to the ground, beaming over at Mallory. ”See? No shame, no problem, because I don’t really care if she took a picture of that or not, everyone at school already knows I’ve got no shame, she’s got no ammo on me,” Eggy explained casually, placing a hand on her hip.
Between the food thing and the clothes thing, Mallory’s look of horror and disgust made a lot of sense, to be honest, but honestly Eggy couldn’t deny the fact that she was enjoying herself during all this, and when Mallory requested that Eggy list something horrifying for Mallory to express how she felt, Eggy was happy to offer a couple examples.
”My saggy Grimm-Gran coming back from the grave to have some reverse necrophilia with some random, undeserving, super desperate dude?” She offered casually.
Eggy had actually never met her grandmother on the Grimm side of the family tree, however she had heard enough stories about the old hag to take a jab or so at her, and from what she had heard, it didn’t seem like her Grimm-Gran had been all that great of a person to begin with.
Which would probably explain why almost all her aunts and uncles on that side of the family were all half siblings.
Grimm-Gran got around.
After all, on that side of the family tree she had about nine? - was it nine? That was a bad number, come on Grimm-Gran - uncles, even if two of them were dead by now, and like six aunts.
It was a big family.
But anyways, thoughts of how disgusting her Grimm-Gran had probably been, Eggy turned her attention back to Mallory and nodded along with the agreement that food was in fact: useless.
The statement was true, it was about time someone else realized it.
Of course this wasn’t something she would tell her uncle Elfie since he owned his own bakery, and even Eggy had to admit that if she was going to eat food, she was probably going to grab something from the Pawkery, but even then she just wasn’t that big on food.
Which, speaking of food, her stomach was still demanding more so she could probably find another terrible concoction to eat.
Looking back to the buffet table, Eggy idly listened to everything Mallory asked about.
”I mean, I prefer a clean bathroom floor, but I’m not against a couple germs joining the party,” Eggy replied with ease, piling a random amount of different food onto her plate. ”Plus like, germs exist everywhere we go, why try to avoid them? Obviously you should keep your hygiene levels up so you don’t get sick or smell bad or something like that, but I’m not gonna nitpick on the cleanliness of the bathroom floor before I lie down,” she explained, shrugging simply.
It wasn’t a big deal to her, but she could see how some other people might find it gross. She had a lot of germaphobic family members.
She just was not one of them.
”Besides, our bodies were meant to be naked, did you know that clothes were originally only used during the cold months since we didn’t have the same fur that the animals around us had?” Eggy asked, shooting a glance back over towards Mallory. ”However during the warmer months, modern humans-“ so like, not Neanderthals. ”Would actually just decorate their naked bodies in paint? That way we still looked pretty cool and fancy but we weren’t constricted by clothes, clothes were only really needed during the cold months, and even then most people just wore animal hide capes and stuff, leaving the front of their bodies free to do as they wished,” Eggy continued plainly.
She had learned a lot about clothes over the years, probably more than any thirteen year old had any business knowing, but listen, if you were going to object to something that was so deeply implemented into society, then you better know why you were objected to it.

Elari Grimm snow leopard
This was one of those moments where Elari was reminded of how lucky she was to have the parents she did. Her baba and papa were great and she knew that not everyone was as blessed as she was with good parents, if she could share her parents with the world, she would...which actually, that’s exactly what she already did. Her fathers were the kings of Elanaria and everyone knew that there wasn’t any other land beyond Elanaria, anything else that had once existed before the war had been destroyed by the old king.
All that was left now was the endless ocean until eventually you found yourself back at Elanaria.
So when it came down to it, Elari really did share her parents with the whole world, in fact they had been the rulers of Elanaria before they had been her parents so in a way it was more like the world had shared her parents with her.
Smiling up at Baba, Elari pulled him into another hug. ”I knew you’d have an answer for this!” She told him happily. Baba always knew what to do in situations like this, and in all of the other situations that had come up before from the various shenanigans that Elari and her siblings had gotten into over the years.
Somehow, despite it all though, Baba and Papa had always found the solution and usually they had found it with ease.
Even the blue milk situation had been taken care of before long.
Finally letting go of her father, Elari looked back over to Canna. ”Alright, I’m going to find another dress to wear in my closet, but Dory can help you find a tux, just tell him what size you’ll need and I’ll be right back,” she promised her with a smile before looking down to the giant checkered rabbit that was playing with his ears.
Dory stopped and looked up. ”Oh right, I’m sure Eli has a bunch of tuxes here somewhere, doesn’t he make them for fun?” He asked, looking between Khari and Elari.
Papa had always enjoyed making clothes, in fact most of the dresses that Elari had, had been sewn together by her papa. If anyone had a tux that could fit Canna, it would be him.
Elari nodded in response. ”Papa keeps all of it in his workshop, you’ll have to get the key from him,” she warned lightly and Dory nodded in response, starting towards the door again.
”Right, I’ll go sneak-I mean, ask him for it, I’m sure you guys can entertain yourselves until I get back,” Dory said before disappearing from sight.
It probably would take him a couple minutes or so, hopefully by the time Dory came back, Elari would have a dress picked out.
Right, she still needed to do that.
Pausing to look back towards Canna and Baba, she nodded slightly and then started towards a door that led to her bathroom, from there she could enter her closet and get changed. ”I’ll be right back,” she promised hurriedly, closing the door behind her.
Once she was in her closet, Elari walked over to where her fancy dresses were. Being a princess meant she was far from short on ball gowns to wear, now the only problem would be finding a new one.
It had been easy to pick which to wear earlier since her papa had made the outfit specifically for the ball, she had been able to sit down and explain to him what she would like to wear and he had made it for her.
But now she had to pick out of all the old - though no less exquisite - dresses she had.
Letting out a soft hum, Elari looked them all over until her eyes settled on a rather fancy purple one in the back. The dress was similar to the one she had on right now, though obviously different in color and with enough differences in design as well to make it stand on its own, however it still fit the general vibe she had been going for with her original dress.
Plus this one was special to her.
Elari reached out to grab hold of the dress, pressing her thumb down on the soft, silky fabric.
It was the oldest dress she had at this point.
her papa had made it for her for her shifter reveal...which was also the last time she had gone through a growth spurt as well. Which was a little sad but it also meant she could still shop for clothes in the kid’s section and they had way better clothes than the women’s section did.
Seriously, what was with the fashion industry and the lack of pockets?
She would have brought it up to them by now but she also didn’t want to prevent them from living out their creative dreams.
Besides, she could usually ask her papa to simply readjust her pockets to make them bigger. If she had it her way, she’d only wear the clothes that he made, but as he was king, he didn’t have the time to devote to clothes.
Still, he always made her dresses.
With her mind made up, Elari grabbed the dress off it’s hanger and quickly switched into it, looking herself over in the mirror to see how it looked.
Yep, still fit.
She hadn’t worn this dress in awhile, it still looked rather pristine, this should do nicely for the rest of the ball.
Of course...that still left the issue of her hair.
Elari paused to look up towards the reflection of her hair, which was still rather damp and had fallen out of the intricate hairdo she had spent a good amount of the early evening getting it into.
Frowning a little, Elari hurried back out of the closet and peaked her head gently outside the bathroom to look into her room. ”Baba, can you help me with my hair? I don’t think I have time to fix it up like how I had it earlier...” she admitted sheepishly.

Canna Kingsleigh irish setter shifter
It was a little easier to think things through now that one of Elari’s dads was in the room with them. Canna’s mind was still very much on Elari, but now that there was a plan underway and an entirely other person near, Canna’s mind was split between the plan, King Khari, even Dory, and Elari. Maybe she could be somewhat useful for once instead of a flustered mess. She realized that she was kind of an idiot when around Elari, but she felt like now she could better focus what with her mind not being entirely on the princess.
For the most part Canna stood where she was, taking in everything that was being said. Having been useless moments before and now that the situation seemed to be under wraps, there wasn’t much for her to do herself. She could continue to be useless and just follow what everybody was telling her to do. She didn’t really want to do that, but if that’s what it came down to she would.
The Irish Setter shifter placed her attention on Elari for a moment, feeling the very corners of her mouth pulling at a small smile as the princess addressed her for a few moments. She nodded in understanding before reluctantly pulling her attention toward Dory, about to tell the rabbit her size when he then went on to mention how Elari’s other dad, King Elijah - really it was King Eli, she didn’t really hear anybody refer to him by his full name - had a knack for making clothes, followed by Elari saying everything would be in his workshop. Now that was interesting. Canna had never realized that the king had a hobby of making clothes, but she supposed it made sense. The more she heard about the king the more she realized there really wasn’t much he couldn’t or didn’t do.
Beyond that though, Canna couldn’t help but think about how this really wasn’t how she thought her night would go. She didn’t think she’d get close to Elari, let alone close enough to have an entire conversation with her and then get to be her date for the dance. Even if things had turned a little wrong for them Canna wouldn’t change what had happened for anything. If all of this hadn’t happened would she even have Elari as her date for the rest of the dance?
Okay so this is where I’d put more serious reply stuff in but I’m kinda running out of time here so bare with me.
Blah blah filler words.
Hearing Elari’s voice come from the bathroom, Canna turned her attention over there, wondering if she could see the other girl in her new dress. She already knew Elari would look beautiful in this next dress like she did in the first, but that didn’t mean she didn’t want to see the princess in it. But Elari merely had her head poking out and was calling for her dad, who was quick to answer and walk toward the bathroom where his daughter was. ”Here, I can help, we’ll have your hair ready in no time,” he reassured as he made his way over.
While Elari and her dad worked on hair things, Canna stood back where she was, waiting for Dory to return so that they could go get her a new tux to wear for the night.

Ephraim Grimm tiger
If Ephraim was being honest here, he did sort of think that this was all a little unnecessary. Was it sad that people didn’t really seem to want to dance with him? Well obviously it was, especially considering the fantastic dance moves he had learned specifically for the ball. However he didn’t need his papa and his older brother to go about and make a big deal out of it. This just seemed a little bit like overkill at this point.
Plus Papa had already hurt his back in an effort to help Enzo get down and quite frankly, Ephraim was already feeling a little guilty over that since he could’ve - and should’ve - interjected with a better idea than “jump! I’ll catch you!” However curiosity had won over common sense and instead now here they were.
”It’s really okay Papa, I’m a little sad about it but don’t let it ruin your night, besides your back is hurt, you probably shouldn’t dance-“ Ephraim tried to explain to him, hurrying to catch up with his father and brother as he looked up at the two.
Papa shook his head. ”Oh it isn’t hurt that badly, besides I’ve been through worse,” he stated simply. ”Have I ever told you about the time I jumped off a moving train to save the tentative alliance between-“ before he could continue, Enzo cut him off.
”Um, Papa, maybe you could tell us this story somewhere else? Maybe in another room or sitting down somewhere...” Enzo trailed off, his eyes locked on something Ephraim couldn’t quite see from where he was.
Frowning a little, Ephraim moved forward to get a glimpse at whatever it was Enzo was looking at.
Two students, roughly around Enzo’s age, talking to each other.
Ephraim didn’t know them, but it kind of seemed like Enzo did.
Papa must’ve picked up on it as well since he also followed Enzo’s gaze and stopped at the sight of the students. ”Friends of yours? Or are they...” Papa paused to glance around. ”Are they a bunch of Adams?” He questioned in a hushed whisper.
Of course, not that anyone would really be able to figure out why “Adam” was such an insult, but anyone in the royal family knew it was code for “people we wish to avoid for they have wronged us and don’t deserve our company” which was sort of a long code, hence why it was simply shortened to “Adam” in cases like this.
Enzo shook his head. ”No, no, they’re not Adams,” he reassured, tearing his gaze away from the two siblings. ”I haven’t actually spoken to them, but uh, I know who they are, their names are Eliana and Eydan, Eliana is the same year as me, Eydan is a year younger, I haven’t exactly talked to them personally but uh, I’m sure they’re up to date on local school news...”
Ah yes there it was, the big old elephant in the room.
Everyone knew the story by now.
Two years ago Enzo had gotten into a “fight” with two of the school’s most popular students: Sharon Calamita and Faif Diem, not that anyone could really call it a fight since neither of them had fought back and instead Enzo had...well let’s just say damage had been done.
From there the rumors had spread.
There wasn’t much people didn’t believe about Ephraim’s older brother by now. Most of the rumors were taken as fact that the royal family refused to address.
“Enzo would be in juvie if not for his family”
“The eldest prince is highly unstable”
“There’s a huge cover up about him”
Stuff like that.
It had left him...rather unpopular within the school and quite frankly, the kingdom as a whole.
Of course Ephraim knew better than to believe everything you read, but he was also Enzo’s younger brother and for the full story, unlike most of the world.
”...Oh, right,” Papa said, trailing off. ”Well, we could go find somewhere else,” he suggest and looked over at Enzo. ”Or we could go say hello? It’s a ball for TAS, I’m afraid the chances of us avoiding your schoolmates are dangerously low, but that doesn’t mean we should think the worst of anyone before we at least get to know them, don’t you think?” He asked.
Enzo paused, clearly thinking over his words before he sighed and nodded. ”Right, right, I shouldn’t assume things about others if I don’t want them to assume things about me,” he agreed and Papa beamed proudly at him. ”Alright, lets go say hello,” he said and started walking over to Eliana and Eydan.
Ephraim followed him right alongside Papa, though he couldn’t help but notice as a certain rabbit hopped over.
Dory and Ephraim locked eyes for a moment or so before Dory made a shushing motion and tried to sneak up behind Papa and grab his keys.
Unfortunately for him, Papa noticed.
Pulling his eyes out, Papa sighed and held them out to the rabbit. ”I assume you have a good reason for needing these, Dory, all you had to do was ask,” Papa told him with a pointed - though amused - look.
If anything at least Dory did look a little embarrassed as he took the keys from Papa, mumbling out something of an apology before hopping off again.
Ephraim tilted his head to the side, looking from Papa to the checkered rabbit as he disappeared from sight. ”What was that all about?” He questioned.
Papa sighed in response and gestured vaguely around him. ”I don’t know, but I’m sure I’ll hear all about it later,” he explained simply before turning his attention back to Eliana and Eydan, smiling at the two students as he approached. ”Hello you two, I hope you’re enjoying the ball?” He asked happily.
Ephraim followed after, lingering a little behind his papa as he offered the older students a friendly smile and a wave.

Dorian “Dory” Grimm giant checkered rabbit [familiar to Elari Grimm]
Okay so yeah, he could’ve just asked Elijah for the keys but there was something a lot more thrilling about sneakily taking them from him instead...sure it failed but was that really the point here? Well if anything he got the keys and that’s what mattered.
Dory glanced down to the keychain hanging out of his mouth.
Elari needed keys to get Canna into Elijah’s workshop, and while Dory didn’t fully understand what the appeal of clothes were in the first place, he’d do anything for Elari, so that meant he needed these keys.
Which, on that note, Dory wanted to add that he didn’t personally care for Canna either. She seemed like more trouble than she was worth, but Elari seemed fond of her and even if Dory didn’t get it, he was going to support her.
”You know, you could’ve just asked him for the keys, in fact I’m sure he would be happy to help with...whatever it is you’re doing.” Dory paused as the sound of an all too familiar voice filled his large rabbit ears.
Sighing, Dory looked up to see a delicate, all pink, hairless cat draped over the ledge of a window, dressed properly in a rather stunning ball gown...for a cat, complete with little ballerina-esque booties for her feet and a large bow around the back of her neck.
”Nat,” he greeted with a small flick of acknowledgement with his ears.
The hairless cat purred in response and flicked her tail at him. ”I saw the whole thing, because unlike you, I can behave myself at balls and was allowed to come,” she stated pointed and hopped down from the ledge. ”Eli’s really nice, you didn’t need to try and sneak up on him.”
Dory gave her a look. ”You have to say that, you’re his familiar,” he grunted through gritted teeth, the keychain rattling in his mouth. ”Also, I could’ve come if I wanted to, but balls suck and I didn’t want to wear a bow tie because I don’t like wearing silly clothes like you do,” he added with a defiant nod.
Nat let out a bemused chirp. ”I don’t have any fur, and I look cute in clothes,” she replied simply. ”But my point still stands that Eli doesn’t deserve your harsh treatment.”
Okay...that was fair, and it wasn’t like Dory disliked the king or anything.
It was more of just...
Well...
Dory knew he had been named after the king’s first familiar: Dori, she had been a rabbit like him...although, she was a French Angora while Dory was a Checkered Giant, there was a big difference.
The point was, Dory knew the story of what happened to Dori, the tragic end to the rabbit he now wore the shoes of...metaphorically speaking of course, and well...looking at Elijah, Dory couldn’t help but feel like he ought to act like Dori did, even though he knew it wasn’t his job to replace her.
But, what if Dory let both Eli and his original familiar down? What if he didn’t live up to the reputation he was shadowed into?
Nat would probably understand, she literally was the familiar replacement. However by now, Elijah had had Nat as his familiar for a good twenty or so years, she would’ve filled in the shoes plenty by now and well...Dory didn’t really feel like he had any right to complain compared to how insecure Nat probably was when she first started out.
Shaking his head a little, Dory did his best to change the subject. ”You know Nat, I’d love to stay and chat, but I’ve got a girl to find a tux for,” he explain through gritted teeth. ”So I’ll see you around,” he said and with a curt goodbye, he left the highly decorated cat along, hopping on his way to Elari’s room.
Once he got there, he pushed himself through the rabbit door and dropped the keys at Canna’s feet. ”Alright, I’ve got the keys, let’s go find you something suitable to wear,” he said curtly, gesturing for Canna to follow him back out the room without so much as a second glance back at her.

Mallory Ethels goliath birdeater & koi fish As Eggy grasped her shoulder and seemed to indicate she had valuable knowledge regarding life circumstances and awkward and embarrassing moments recorded by a person whose would be willing to show those pictures with no guilt, Mallory focused her attention.
The advice wasn't as expected.
Actually, the advice had Mallory covering her eyes and screeching, "EGGY, NO!" But Mallory heard the click of a camera from ever a distance away. Hesitantly, she started to remove her hands from her face, but had not been expecting to still see Eggy with her dress up and shaking until she finally let it go.
Mallory looked at her friend in horror. "Eggy you just- you just flashed at very least half of the party. And I'm ninety-nine percent certain that Nixie took a picture of that. How can you have no shame over that?" Mallory's mother would kill Mallory if the goliakoi even thought about doing something like that.
... Maybe that was it. Upbringings between Eggy and Mallory were just different. Eggy didn't have a mother... or a father?... who cared about such things like that.
Well, Mallory's concerns for Eggy's family skyrocketed as Eggy met her request for some horrifying expression. And horrifying it was. Mallory was left gaping in shock at the shere strange, disgusting nature of the expression. Mallory grimaced and gave Eggy a little thumbs up anyway. "Yeah. That horrifying."
Mallory scrunched her nose, but this was something that she could see the reasoning of. Plus, it wasn't like Eggy had immediately opted for the gross bathroom option, just clean with the normal germs someone would find like... anywhere. So Mallory nodded her head to that in understanding.
But it lead into what seemed to be an.... interesting history lesson. And Mallory did think it was interesting, she just meant interesting in terms of "would Mr. Jäger actually bother to teacher this, because if not, it's interesting."
When Eggy had finished, Mallory tilted her head. "I'm surprised to say... but that doesn't sound that bad." Sure the nudity was extremely weird and probably very awkward for people... or would be for the present day people, but the paint sounded cool. "I think I'd have to say I'd prefer winter for once in my life though purely for the cape clothes at least then." Normally, Mallory hated winter.

Canna Kingsleigh irish setter shifter
Now that Dory had taken off to go grab the workshop keys and Elari and her dad were in the bathroom fixing her hair, it was just Canna in the main bedroom. She wasn't sure how long it would take the rabbit to return with the keys, so she had no idea how long she would have to wait. For all she knew it could be a few seconds up to thirty minutes; she just hoped it wouldn't take too long so that she could go back out to the ball with Elari.
Once again the thought of having somehow managed to get Elari to agree to be her date for the night made Canna feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. It was a giddy feeling, something that went beyond just warm and fuzzy really. It was a feeling that had her jittery, had her full of an energy that made her want to get up and move around and continue to be happy and free and excited. Canna didn't doubt her ability to get people to find her attractive or anything along the lines of that, but getting to go on a date with Elari was beyond Canna's self-confidence in her looks. While she wanted Elari to find her physically attractive in a sense, she would much rather the crown princess to find her appealing in personality, and when it came to personality Canna was...well, there were better people out there with better personalities, personalities that would fit much better with somebody that was to be next in line to rule an entire kingdom.
The giddy excitement fizzled out, leaving a hollow feeling in the middle of her chest. She glanced down, noticing that she was fiddling with her fingers, nervously moving them around one another as she stood there. She knew her personality wasn't a favored one. She wasn't really soft or nice or gentle toward other people. She didn't want to be like that. She wanted to be able to do her own thing, wanted to be able to show people that she wasn't somebody to be messed with. She didn't want to fall into the shadows just because she would let other people walk all over her or be somebody that was known to give up when somebody tougher or meaner than her got in her way. Canna didn't like the idea of being somebody soft. She wanted to be tough, wanted to be somebody that could rely on herself to get the job done even if that meant going down the path that headed for the most drastic solution. Somehow Canna had to make a name for herself, and she had decided on how she would do that a long time ago. She didn't want to be some nobody, so she made sure to be a somebody. Her reputation wasn't the best, but she couldn't call it the worst. Either way, it wasn't good enough to be with somebody like Elari. How would the kingdom respond to their princess being with somebody who spent more time in reform classes than out of them? Would she even be allowed to be with Elari? Well, if the kingdom didn't want them to be together, Canna would just fight it. Not like she followed the rules to begin with.
Canna wasn't left to her thoughts for too much longer when Dory finally made his return. She hadn't realized just how long she had been lost in her thoughts, but when the rabbit reappeared she put her mind back on track and stood up straight rather than slouching against the edge of the bed.
"Right behind ya," she called out to the spotted familiar, not wasting any time as she followed after him. The sooner she cleaned up the sooner she could go out there and spend the rest of the night with the girl of her dreams.

Eglantine Grimm albino peahen shifter
Eggy let out a chortled laugh at Mallory’s utter horror regarding Eggy as a whole. Grinning, she leaned over and gently patted the other girl on the shoulder. ”Oh Mallory, if I was to actually flash them, I’d have to have no underwear on, but I did have underwear, and only like, twenty three people turned to look when I did that,” she assured casually.
Moving her hand up to gently pat Mallory’s cheek, Eggy continued. ”Plus, I was kind of hoping that Nixie would take my picture, because I don’t really care if people see me in my underwear, that’s the secret, you just gotta not care about anyone else’s opinions and live your life however you wanna live it, you do your groove, I do mine, and everyone just sort of grooves together like a 60s disco party,” Eggy explained and took a step back to focus on her food again.
Honestly, she had done so many things that any normal person would’ve died from embarrassment by now. However for Eggy, it was just another day in the life of being her, and honestly, people probably saw a picture of her or read her name in the school news and were so used to her antics by now that they just didn’t even care.
Not caring: that’s what made the world go round.
Plus it was just a good philosophy to live by.
Between both her dads, Eggy had learned a few things.
Dad™ taught her to live her life the way she wanted to, and not the way society wanted her to. He taught her that she shouldn’t be ashamed of her body or her interests or anything of the sort and that memes were cool.
Pére taught her to love everyone, even if they were a jerk, and to love nature and the world around them too. He taught her that you can love everyone and still fight them at the same time and that it wasn’t wrong to fight for you, your family, or your passions. He also taught her how to legally get out of almost any sticky situation.
Basically between her two fathers, Eggy had learned a lot by the ripe age of 13, and this wasn’t even touching upon the stuff she had learned from aunts and uncles, and other family members.
Maybe she should make Mallory an honorary Grimm so that she could also learn all these important, valuable life lessons that Eggy had already learned.
Anyways, after getting her plate together, Eggy shoved a chocolate truffle into the small blob of caviar on her plate, waiting until the truffle was properly covered in it before popping the whole thing into her mouth.
Eggy let the taste blend and swish around in her mouth for a minute.
...Darn, this actually tasted really good too.
You’d think it would be gross, but nope.
Eggy hated to say it, but she was clearly a culinary genius.
Sighing, she shook her head and dipped another truffle into the caviar. ”Yeah, humans are weird, I mean, we can all shift into really cool animals and creatures, but we don’t have to wear clothes when we shift, why do I get to be naked as a peacock but not when I’m like this? If you ask me, it’s a total double standard,” she said with a pointed nod.
”...Of course if we started making our animal forms wear clothes too, we might as well learn to stand on two legs and call ourselves furries,” Eggy mused thoughtfully.
Technically, if you really thought about it, they basically already were furries, weren’t they? Nudist furries that still had to wear clothes in their human form.

Dorian “Dory” Grimm giant checkered rabbit [familiar to Elari Grimm]
Once Dory was sure that Canna was coming, he hopped back off and glanced back once to twice to make sure that she was following. He knew where to go, he’d grown up in this castle the same as Elari had. He still remembered the day he met her.
~ ~ ~
He had just turned 16 weeks old, and as he had finally come of adoption age, his mother’s owner had decided to invite the royal family over to take a look at him and his ten siblings. ”So Jester, I’m a little surprised you decided to own rabbits, given...” The King trailed off.
Jester - otherwise known to Dory as the weird purple haired dragon lady that helped raise him - shrugged a little as she leaned forward to pet one of Dory’s siblings. ”Ah well, you know, it’s been a couple years now and well...I’ve always been good with rabbits.”
To this day, Dory still didn’t exactly know what their conversation had been about, but he hadn’t ever cared enough to ask either.
Tilting his head to the side, Dory watched as the King ushered in a small herd of young, grimy looking children.
One of them - which Dory later learned to be Ko - was enjoying a rather messy ice cream cone and already getting it everywhere.
Dory cringed and backed up a little.
As much as he wanted to become an official member of the royal family, he didn’t want it that bad, even if he had always felt like his home was with that family, that something otherworldly was dragging him to it.
It wouldn’t be for a little bit longer that he learned that it was the pull a familiar had to be with their person. Finding out that he was a familiar though had explained so much to him.
Especially like why his siblings were all such idiots.
”Anyways, there’s eleven of them total, eight boys and three girls, I know you’ve got a special connection to rabbits, so I figured I’d let you take a look at them before I find homes for them,” Jester explained and the king leaned over to look at them.
Dory met his gaze and there was a pause, and then the king reached down and picked Dory up, gently cradling him in his arms as he gestured for a tiny girl with soft white hair to come over. ”Elari, why don’t you come say hello? He’s very friendly,” King Elijah explained and Dory looked over at the little girl curiously.
She was in a light purple dress and had her hair pulled back into two pigtails with bows and unlike the other rowdy children, she was hiding behind the other king, eyeing Dory warily.
”Elari’s a little nervous around...well, around everything, we’re trying to ease her into things,” King Elijah explained and beckoned Elari forward again, whispering something in a language Dory didn’t understand.
Elari hesitated for a moment or so before hurrying over to join the king, looking down at Dory with wide, doe like blue eyes.
Dory blinked.
Slowly, Elari smiled at him and lowered a hand to pet his back. ”He’s soft,” she said in a whispered awe.
Dory nuzzled into her touch and the little girl beamed, giggling softly. ”Hello there, Mr. Bunny, I’m Elari, and you’re really soft,” she greeted him happily.
That’s when Dory decided that maybe not all kids were that bad after all.
~ ~ ~
Well, anyways, that was enough reminiscing.
Dropping the keys on the floor, Dory stopped just outside a door and looked over at Canna. ”Right, go in, pick a tux, and come back out. Everything is labeled and organized, you should have no problem finding a tux,” he instructed her and hopped back a little, pointing his head towards the door.
Hopefully soon they could get back to Elari and send these two off on their way and Dory could find something else to occupy him.

Canna Kingsleigh irish setter shifter
I don’t know how to make this a good post so here’s another gross post about Canna getting her tux, i have no idea how to make all that into something decent to read.
The end.
After what felt like an hour of just looking around at everything inside the closet, Canna had picked out the tux she wanted and had put it on. Feeling good about it and herself now, the Irish setter shifter walked out of the closet and looked around until her steely blue gaze landed on Dory. ”I’m good to go now,” she told him, offering a confident smirk. Now that she was back into clothes that weren’t covered in champagne she was ready to make the most of the night.

Elari Grimm snow leopard shifter
As far as evening went, this wasn’t Elari’s worst ball experience. If anything, simply due to the fire that she had caused and the disaster she had made of herself and her room, not to mention the whole “forgetting Canna’s name” thing earlier, that would all land it a spot in the top ten, probably somewhere around the sixth spot. However there were enough highlights to tonight that it didn’t fit into the top five, and definitely not the top three.
This was much better than that whole “sixteen’s birthday gala” for Enzo’s 16th birthday. That had been an utter disaster. Or the “annual district heirs banquet” of the year 42 AB. She had been fourteen at the time and though she wasn’t specifically involved in the drama that had transpired that night, she could only imagine how hard it had been for Fizzy during it all.
Anyways, the point was that this wasn’t as bad as some of the other events she had been to were, plus, there were still enjoyable moments and the evening was still young so Elari had a lot of hope.
Especially now that her appearance had been taken care of, thanks to her baba. Hair no longer up in a bun but rather in loose, fluffy curls that went down just past her shoulders, complete with a delicately woven in light blueish purple bow that matched her dress perfectly, Elari felt fairly good about her appearance.
It wasn’t her original outfit, or intended look in general, but it was nice enough that she still felt like a princess at a ball.
Hugging her baba again, Elari murmured out a thank you to him for all the help. She still felt a little bad about taking him away from the evening, especially when she was sure that both her parents had been looking forward to a relaxing evening without the usual chaos and eventful mess that Elari and her siblings caused on a daily basis.
However despite that, he had still been willing to help and that meant a lot to Elari.
”Thank you, Baba, and I’m still really sorry for all the mess and for dragging you off to help,” she told him, tightening her hug for a moment or so before letting go. ”Now we just have to wait for Dory and Canna to come back,” she stated and glanced towards the door before looking back up at her father.
Elari was partially tempted to ask him what he thought of Canna. She liked the other girl so far, she had proven to be very sweet and understanding, however Elari also valued her family’s opinion, her parents and her siblings always took a large part in her decision making and she was...curious to know how her Baba felt about Elari’s new friend...was Canna a friend? Elari enjoyed her company, but she wasn’t quite sure she’d say friend yet.
Friends had proven to be a tricky thing for her in the past, and people’s intentions could not always be trusted, no matter how “sweet” they seemed to be at first.
Elari wasn’t left with these thoughts for much longer though, as soon enough Dory pushed the door open with his nose and hopped inside. ”Alright, we’re back, took forever for this one here to pick a tux though,” Dory explained and pointed his ears upwards towards Canna. Dory had always been a bit of a fashion nerd. Elari was quite certain she would hear all about his opinion on Canna’s tux later tonight.
Speaking of Canna though...
As the other girl entered the room, Elari froze in her spot. Maybe it was because Elari had always admired her father’s handiwork when it came to creating exquisite looking clothes, or perhaps it was because nothing her Papa made was ever “dull” in appearance and the tuxes were given just as much glam as the dresses were, but Canna dressed in her new tux looked...well she looked...breathtaking really.
Which was an accurate description considering Elari was finding it a little hard to breathe right now.
Face warming, Elari did what she could to hide her reddened cheeks by grabbing one of her intricate hand fans from her drawer and covering her face with it.
It wasn’t subtle, but it hid her face and that was the goal here. Plus if she needed to, she could play it up as some sort of fashion statement or something. Fans were common for things like this, she could pull it off.
Dory gave her a look that made it clear he wasn’t fooled, though luckily he chose not to question her with the other two in the room.
Looking back to Canna, Elari cleared her throat and stepped towards her. ”You um...you look nice,” she complimented, slowing fanning her face with her fan in an effort to conceal her growing blush, instantly internally cursing herself for it.
“You look nice?” Really Elari? That’s what you were going to go with? Canna looked more than just nice, she looked absolutely radiant in her new tuxedo and she probably put a lot of thought into picking one out that matched her personality, and you go with nice? Oh Elari, this is why you’re failure-ing your way through life like a clumsy horse on skates right now.

Canna Kingsleigh irish setter shifter
There hadn't been a lot of times when Canna could say she was truly nervous. Perhaps the only time she had truly been nervous was right before she had her first shift and there had been a momentary worry that she either wouldn’t have a shifter form or she’d be one of those kids who didn’t get an animal close to what her biological mom had and would end up being something dumb like a dung beetle-tick shifter. She was pretty confident in herself for the most part, and she had never been one to let the thoughts of others get to her. Whatever somebody had to think about her didn’t reflect on herself as a person, but rather it reflected on the person thinking about her. Canna would admit that she wasn’t the best person out there so most thoughts probably weren’t positive about her, but that had never bothered her. She was just living her own life and nobody could stop her from doing that. That line of thinking was what helped her to stay calm in sticky situations. Okay, Canna didn’t exactly do calm, she was more like a ball of anger than anything, but she was calm in the sense that she didn’t get those butterflies in her stomach like she heard people talk about. She didn’t really get nervous, but there was always a time and place for that to change, and right now, right here, was that change.
The reality that she was about to go back out there to the ball with Elari was finally setting in. Clearly she wasn’t in a champagne stained tux anymore, but that had been before this night had become a date, before she knew she would be going back out there with the girl of her dreams. What if she had picked the wrong tuxedo? It wasn’t like any of them were wrong choices, they had been made by the king himself, but what if Elari didn’t like this particular one for some reason? What if it didn’t match the color of her hair or the color of her eyes? What if it just didn’t look good on her and made her look out of place? There were so many ‘what ifs’ running through her mind right now, and she knew if she didn’t calm herself down in the next few seconds her nerves would grow even more. She could feel her hands wanting to shake, but she managed to keep them from showing her nerves for now.
The walk back to Elari’s room felt like it had both taken forever and only a millisecond. It was Dory’s voice that broke Canna out of her thoughts, and when she heard what the rabbit had to say she found a spark of her usual self, scoffing at his words and rolling her eyes. ”It only took so long because there were so ma-“ Canna stopped dead in her words as soon as she stepped back into the room and landed her eyes right on Elari.
Even if she wanted to finish her statement there would have been no way she could have looking at the princess.
Elari was always beautiful, that was just a given, but right now she rivaled anything that could be compared to her right now. She went beyond even the beauty of a goddess. The new dress she had on fit her with an elegance grace that nothing could compare to. The way she had her hair framed her face in such a way that really showed her natural beauty. She was...she was stunning, and Canna couldn’t believe that she had somehow managed to not only speak with Elari tonight, but somehow managed to secure this night as a date with the princess. Even with the rocky start this was certainly a night that the canine shifter would never forget.
Canna swayed on her feet, reaching out to hold herself up against the nearby doorframe where she stood. She didn’t even think anything of the fan Elari was using to cover her face, the Irish setter not even aware that the snow leopard was blushing as much as she was. All that Canna could think about was how beautiful the other girl was and how she made it hard for Canna to stand, breathe, and for her to even talk.
With wide eyes Canna watched as Elari stepped closer. Her heart began to thud loudly against her chest, the blood rushing in her ears to the point she almost missed what had been said to her, but she was able to make it out even just barely.
It wasn’t much of a compliment, but to Canna it meant the entire world and more.
Her breathing stopped and caught in her chest momentarily. Luckily she already had her hand against the doorframe or else she would have swayed right off her feet. Canna looked at the princess with her eyes still wide. The heat from her face was surely enough to make her look like a tomato at this point, but she didn’t care right now as she tried to find the words to say in return. ”You look incredible,” she breathed. ”I...I mean you always look incredible, but...wow.” Never once did her eyes leave Elari. ”You’re...you’re stunning.” She could have easily continued to stand there complimenting the princess but this time the voice of Elari’s dad was what dragged Canna out of her stumbling commentary.
”I probably should be heading back to the ball now. Would you two like to come with me or would you rather go yourselves?” He asked the two warmly. In her current state Canna wasn’t focusing on Elari’s dad all that much, but she was sure he had sent her a gentle smile before he looked back at Elari. Canna’s gaze remained on the princess as well, wondering what Elari would say to her dad. Canna knew she could answer if she wanted, and she had an answer to his question, but right now her tongue and mind were too jumbled to make words come out so she could only hope Elari could respond to the question at hand.

Elari Grimm snow leopard shifter
If Elari’s face wasn’t red before, it certainly was now.
Feeling the flush of warmth rush back to her face when Canna complimented her, Elari tried to ignore it and instead glanced back down at her dress. It was an awfully nice dress, wasn’t it? After all, there was a reason it was a favorite of hers. Sure it held sentimental value as well, however part of it was that it was honestly just a pretty dress and although Elari didn’t like to think of herself as vain, she did like to think that the dress brought out her eyes.
Face still a vibrant red, Elari reached for one of her now loose curls as she twirled it around her finger. ”Thank you, you look really nice too,” she replied at last, her voice squeaking a little.
Internally she cursed herself for being so awkward, outwardly she finally managed to calm the heat underneath her cheeks down as she looked away from Canna to focus on the floor of her room, watching it slowly dry up from the sprinklers.
Once she had properly bored herself enough, Elari looked back up, this time focusing on her father as baba explained that he should head back down soon. ”Oh, right-“ Elari started. ”Papa is probably wondering where you are, isn’t he?” She asked with a gentle tilt of her head. She wasn’t entirely sure how long she had spent up here in her room, however by now the young princess was quite certain that the party going on outside was still in full swing.
Balls like this had a tendency to last for hours before they finally ended.
Glancing around, Elari spotted the clock on the wall.
Ten o clock.
It was late, though not quite as late as she had thought it to be. People with younger kids were probably going to leave soon. Did Canna have any younger siblings that were growing tired from all the excitement? How much longer would Canna be able to stay? Elari could only hope it was long enough for a dance.
”You go on ahead, Baba, Canna and I will catch up with you soon,” she promised as she smiled up at him, pausing for a moment before she reached out and gave him one last hug. ”Thank you for all the help tonight, Baba,” she told him in a soft voice, giving him one last, tight squeeze before letting him go.
Once her father had left, Elari turned her attention back to Canna, relieved that she could finally look at the other girl without her face burning underneath her skin. ”So, Date, should we head back down now?” She asked with a smile as she looked at the other girl, offering her elbow for Canna to take if she wanted.
Although just as she did that, she paused and cast a glance back over towards Dory as the checkered giant curled up in his large bed. ”Dory, do you want to join us? I’m sure Papa and Baba wouldn’t mind,” she offered.
Dory shook his head and nested in closer to his bed. ”Thanks, but I’m good, I’ll just have Larksong fill me in on everything tomorrow,” he explained simply.
Elari wasn’t sure if Enzo’s familiar was at the ball right now or not, however the mellow rabbit was usually a bit more approachable than Dory was, so maybe she was out there, mingling with other well behaved familiars.
”Alright, suit yourself,” Elari told him and looked back to Canna, offering the ginger haired girl a smile. ”I’m ready whenever you are, Canna,” she told her brightly.
It was fun to think that she was going to head back downstairs with a date. It was almost like she was at a completely different ball than when she started.
Different dress, different hairstyle, a date when she didn’t originally have one.
Something told her she was going to like the rest of this evening.

Canna Kingsleigh irish setter shifter
At any other given time Canna more than likely would have been annoyed at somebody weaseling their way into the conversation, but this time she felt like it was something of a blessing.
With Elari’s dad speaking up and reminding Canna that he was even still in the room, it gave the Irish Setter shifter a chance to ease all the nerves that had been jumping around inside her like uncontrollable frogs. She was able to take in a deep breath and look down at the ground, allowing herself a moment to just get her thoughts straightened out. She was Canna Kingsleigh, and she was a confident, sauve, and unfazed person. She was somebody who could handle having a date at a ball.
Even if that person was Elari Grimm.
Her hands began to fidget once more at the mere thought of who her date for the ball was.
No, Canna, you need to calm down. You can’t get nervous every time you think about what’s happening, she reprimanded herself internally. All she wanted was to stop herself from turning into a blushing mess anytime Elari so much as talked to her. She didn’t want Elari to end up thinking of her as some kind of fool or anything along those lines. This was perhaps her only chance at making a positive statement to the princess, and Canna was going to do whatever she could to make that happen. She was determined to not let anything ruin this for her, especially not her own dumb nerves. Even if this was a date with the princess of Elanaria at one of the fanciest balls of the year Canna couldn’t afford to be nervous. This was her one chance to make a good statement, to become more than just the delinquent girl. She wanted Elari to be able to actually remember her name after this night was over. She could do this. She could do this.
By the time her internal pep talk was over she had missed most of the conversation between Elari and her dad. Canna had stepped back into reality right as the princess stepped out of the hug she shared with the king; there was a part of her that longed to feel Elari’s arms wrapped around her in an affectionate embrace, but she pushed that yearning aside. She knew she was lucky enough just to get a date with Elari, and perhaps if she was lucky then there could be a hug or two or a few involved in this date.
It wasn’t long that Elari’s dad made his way back out of the room, departing with a quick, ”Let me know if you need anything else tonight.” Just by the tone of his voice and the way he spoke the words made it clear even to Canna that he was honest in his words.
Once he had walked out of the room to head back down to the ball, Canna glanced back over at Elari with a gentle smile pulled on her face. She could feel the warmth building back underneath her skin, surely dusting her face in a soft red light, but she would rather take that over a bundle of nerves that left her jittery and speechless. ”Ya know, I think we should,” she replied with relative ease as she stuck out an arm to link her arm in together with Elari’s. She couldn’t put into words the euphoria that she felt being side by side with the girl she had been crushing on for a long time now, she just knew that she was in a pure blissful state and everything felt perfect to Canna. This was something she never wished to change ever.
Canna fell silent for a moment as Elari spoke with Dory, only speaking up again when Elari’s words were directed back toward her. ”If you’re ready then I’m ready,” she replied, that gentle smile pulling back on her lips like earlier as she looked at not only her princess, but her date for the night.

Mallory Ethels goliath birdeater & koi fish Mallory wanted to hide her face in her hands, but she just didn't think she could. She was having secondhand embarrassment for a being that didn't seem to process embarrassment in the first place.
For half a second, Mallory contemplated the idea that Eggy's awful taste buds had some kind of connection to this blatant lack of shame. The other half of the same second was thought given to her overly sensitive taste buds and her non-existent courage to do stuff like what Mallory just did.
She went blanch as Eggy continued onward, saying she was hoping Nixie did that. On one hand, at least it was a consensual picture, but on the other...
She hesitantly looked over to Eggy as Eggy provided an analogy for living life. Mallory quietly added on- questioned?, "Except in this 60s disco party, some people are dressed up as ancient romans and others from the victorian era all alongside these... "traditional" groovy cats? Etcetera, etcetera?" She felt that would make sense, since not everyone grooved with the 60s in the first place, but that wasn't to say they weren't still willing to attend the party despite different aesthetics.
Or she was reading too much into it.
Mallory made a face as Eggy decided to try something new. Fish eggs and off brand, sweetened mushrooms (since they weren't really mushrooms) seemed gross. She shook her head and tried to move the grossed out look on her face.
But to the conversation regarding changing society to a lack of clothes. She tilted her head in ponderment. "That is a double standard. We really are just as naked in animal form as we would be without clothes now..."
As she went into the idea of making animal forms wear clothes and how they'd need to learn how to stand on two legs, Mallory winced at the thought. Her other form wasn't built much for land. Not to mention, the 8 legs on their own were delicate enough that breaking one would be as hard as snapping a carrot.
She wasn't going to be eating carrots anytime soon after the thought.
But then it occurred to her, "... Don't peacocks already stand on two legs though?"

Elari Grimm crown princess of elanaria snow leopard shifter (year 5)
Elari offered Canna a bright smile and gently grabbed hold of her arm. ”Alright, let’s go,” she agreed and started to head out of her room. Tonight wasn’t exactly going the way she thought it would go, however despite a few bumps along the road, Elari did think she enjoyed it like this, especially considering how patient Canna had been with her throughout their ordeal, forgetting her name, setting her clothes on fire, drenching her in water from the sprinkles that went off because of the fire she started.
Honestly, the fact that despite all of that, Canna had remained patient with her, spoke more volume than anything else could.
By the time they had made it back to the ballroom, it was as if nothing had changed. People were still dancing and talking, in the distance Elari could see her cousin Eggy at the food table, doing who knows what, and some of the guests with younger kids were beginning to round them up to take home.
Over all, not much difference from when they had left.
Looking back to Canna, Elari smiled again. ”It doesn’t look like our absence was noticed,” she commented, honestly relieved to know that no one had wondered where she had run off too, or at least if anyone had, they hadn’t made too big of a fuss about it.
Walking down the stairs, Elari made sure to go slow so she could keep her arm linked with Canna’s, plus she tended to slip on the stairs and that would not be very princess-y of her, nor would it?
Once they made it down the stairs, Elari looked around for a moment before turning her attention back to Canna. ”Well...we’re here, what would you like to do? We could go back to that room we were in earlier and continue talking, or we could go to the food table, except my cousin is there and well...” Elari paused for a moment to consider her words. ”Its probably best if you don’t meet Eggy yet, she can be a lot to handle,” Elari explained, giving a small nod of her head, that seemed to be a good choice of words for Eggy for now.
Of course, perhaps since it was a ball, they should actually do ball like stuff, like mingle with the other guests or at least dance.
As if the universe had made up its mind for her, a new song began to play and Elari tilted her head to the side for a moment to let the melody flow through her ears. It was a slow song, but she had heard it before, it picked up later, even if it was still a ballroom song so it wasn’t like it was super exciting or anything like that.
Swerving on her feet, Elari looked away from Canna, a faint pink blush glowing underneath her cheeks as she fiddled with a loose strand of soft white hair, offering Canna a shy glance. ”...Or...or we could dance, if you...if you want...” She suggested, voice quiet and soft. Elari knew how to dance, obviously and throughout her life she had had many different dance partners, however this felt...different, and Elari would admit that she felt a little....shy about it this time.
What if Canna didn’t want to dance? It wouldn’t be the end of the world of course, but Elari would still end up feeling embarrassed for even bringing it up if that wasn’t something Canna actually wanted to do.

Eglantine Grimm white peahen shifter (year 1)
Over all, Eggy was enjoying herself, she got to semi flash a bunch of people, got her picture taken, and was talking to her pal here Mallory, so fun times all around there, plus Mallory brought up a lot of interesting points that Eggy had not actually thought about originally. ”Huh, that’s a fair point, maybe not everyone even wants to dress up as some groovy sixties hippie, alright fair, some people can be dressed in other clothes so they can groove to their own beat,” Eggy decided with an assertive nod of her head. Why not let people just groove however they want to groove? Didn’t have to be sixties, it could be whatever they wanted to be.
Besides, what right did anyone have to really define an entire decade as only one thing? Who said the sixties had to be seen as only one way? That was decadism and Eggy for one, wouldn’t stand for it. Justice for the decades started now.
Anyways, now that Eggy had made a mental note to start a protest for decadism later, she could focus on the conversation again.
Which, see, the more she got into this conversation, the more Mallory started to make all kinds of sense that most people totally ignored, man she had missed conversations like this, too many people didn’t understand Eggy’s brain or how her thoughts worked, but Mallory here seemed to get it - at least somewhat, even if Eggy couldn’t get her to understand all of it, like the clothes stuff - but still, it was rare to find someone out of her family that understood most of Eggy’s points.
”See! You get it, it’s totally a double standard, why can we walk around as naked and free as we want when we’ve got fur or feathers or scales or whatever you have, but as soon as we’re human again, it’s bad?” Eggy exclaimed, gesturing her arms around to really get her point across. ”You can’t even use the whole ‘our bodies don’t have hair all over them’ argument because they a, technically do, and b, that’s ignoring animals that are naked like naked mole rats, what if someone shifts into a naked mole rat? Do they have to still wear clothes? No! They don’t! So tell me, Mal, where is the justice in that?” Eggy asked, eyes wide as she looked over at her friend. Clearly this was something that Eggy was very passionate about, it was probably a weird thing to be so passionate about and she probably could’ve chosen something a little more productive and needed in today’s times, but to Eggy, nothing was more important as the complete injustice that was mandatory clothes.
#MakePublicNudityAcceptable started now.
...Well technically, it probably started awhile ago, but for the dramatics of everything, it started now.
...Still, Mallory brought up another interesting point, man she was on a roll with these good conversation pointers.
Pausing, Eggy tipped her head to the side.
Peacocks did stand on two feet, didn’t they? Heck they didn’t even have four feet to stand on even if they wanted to.
”...Huh, hot diggity dog, I already am a furry then, aren’t I?” She asked rhetorically. ”Well dang, that’s pretty cool, I didn’t even think about that before, see this is why we should talk more, Mal, you know the good stuff to talk about, none of that boring small talk that everyone hates,” Eggy told her with a nod of her head. Man, she needed to start bringing Mallory around more, this was great.
