as far as cultural things among the clans - would it sounds reasonable that the upper clan thinks they're 'superior' because they can survive in the colder, harsher levels of the mountain compared to the lower and tunnel clan? maybe they think it means they're the true leaders, because they're 'tougher'?

I would actually have it as the opposite just based off history alone.
Okay so this is going to be abridged bit but...
All 3 clans were originally one clan living in the lower valley. However this changed when [cat] lead a coup/rebellion to oust their leader. The reasoning behind the rebellion varies from clan to clan, some saying the leader was corrupt and incompetent while others say that [cat] was vile and only wanted the power themselves. However the attack was unsuccessful and the leader and their loyalists drove the rebels up into the mountains, hoping they would starve and suffer among the peaks. While [cat] lead their most loyal followers into the tunnels under the mountains in hopes to lay low and eventually strike again, taking back the valley that they had been exiled from, those not close to them chose to stay in the mountains ashamed and not willing to risk their lives for a cause that had already cost them their home. [Cat] however, never got the chance to reclaim their home, instead they died of an infection deep in the tunnels of the mountains. They were buried and their followers settled near their grave, eventually becoming the third clan.

Oh wow that's dark XD I would think the lower clan would be more hostile towards new comers especially how they had traitors in their camp? So they don't trust others as easily

What a jolly clan we have xD About the tunnel clan, while they seem to spend most of the time inside the tunnels they would have to come outside every now and then. They're still cats, after all, and would need some sunlight. And like Stitch said, it would probably make sense for the lower clan to be hostile to newcomers.

No, they must stay in the tunnels forever with no light XD

That's so unhealthy, though, tunnel claners will all drop like flies when the war starts xD

Haha yeah I was going to give them some lower mountain territory but it's highly probable that the upper clan claims that land as theirs when the war begins trying to force them underground. I'd also imagine that there are some caves and tunnels with "skylights" or crumbling ceilings that can let in sunlight and life.
But yeah I kinda wanted a history that would match the wartime atmosphere of the clans so dark it is. It can change tho if y'all have better suggestions.

Okay :3 It sounds like the cave clan might be hesitant to new cats since they were forced underground and the upper clan being chill?

i would see it as
lowerclan - not trusting of strangers upperclan - still wary of strangers but probably the most friendly of the three tunnelclan - if they see a stranger in the tunnels that would be a big surprise, i always saw them as the most isolationist
but individual leaders can change things up too
once i finish my classwork for today i'm probably going to finish writing the territory for the upperclan which i'm tentatively naming 'SummitClan?' idk tho.

So, uh... what's the clans' stance on cats with disabilities? Are they shunned or given a chance and at the very least the safety and protection of the clan? With how the lower clan values survival and independence I guess they wouldn't be very kind to them. But what about the other two clans?
Really looking forward to SummitClan's territory. Don't rush, though. It's done when it's done, after all.

not sure about what the other leaders are thinking but i know at least for summitclan they'll probably end up being stuck in/near camp for the most part just because of the danger of the cliffs. but i don't think they'd be shunned.

I see. For quite some time now I've been thinking of making a cat with anosmia (no sense of smell), if not for this rp then for another one. Obviously that would restrict them a lot. Hunting would be still possible since they could rely on sight, hearing and touch. However, they couldn't smell other cats or predators. They probably would have to be accompanied by someone else outside of camp. Heck, their sense of taste would be affected too, so their appetite isn't good either. How would a cat like that be accepted by their clanmates? If that's too much I would settle for a mute cat, though.

oooooooo that could be really cool.
i think they'd be good in terms of hunting- since i know at least in summitclan their prey includes large birds like eagles and hawks and that would be more sight based hunting than scent. if they're young enough the not leaving clan without another cat makes sense, and that's kinda the normal policy for summitclan since if you get stuck somewhere on the mountain due to falling rocks or something, you want a buddy there to bring help.
but yeah i say go for it. was there a specific clan you wanted to put them in?

Yay, thanks! You're right, they could do pretty well in SummitClan. At least as a hunter. And no, I don't really have a preference on which clan. Each of them could be interesting. How many characters do we all get to play, anyway? As many as we can or is there a limit per person?

Post by lazy penguin on Mar 18, 2020 12:34:43 GMT -5
i'm not gonna be the one to limit anyone lol, make as many as you think you can handle! and pray for me since i always end up making like 20+ cats

Haha, thanks. I'm still figuring out all the details. And most importantly, if I want to start with them as a kit, apprentice or warrior. As a kit they would have to find out that they're different from their clanmates so that could be an interesting start. But having them as an apprentice already would be fun, too.

first run through of SummitClan territory, I haven't read through any of this a second time, so pardon any typos lol
SummitClan occupies the middle and upper parts of Hæsta, the tallest of three visible mountains in the region. While they do have limited access to the foot of the mountain, that land is split up between [LowerClan] and [TunnelClan] and often subject to territorial disputes. Because of this, their territory is filled with variety, from pine forest to barren fields of ice, snow, and rock. While they have access to the summit and upper mountain, most cats tend to avoid it and apprentices who have yet to pass their climbing test are forbidden from traveling above the treeline. Below are a few important landmarks:
The Frozen River and Silver Falls -- close to the summit of the mountain, the stone opens up in the mouth of a mighty river. The Frozen River- as coined by SummitClan, starts out only a few tail- lengths across, but gradually grows wider and wider as it joins with meltwater further down the mountainside. When it meets the border with [LowerClan] it stretches a good 10 cat lengths, and cascades downwards in a large waterfall, forming a deep pool on the [LowerClan] side. Along the banks of the river, life thrives. Whether it just be shrubs or massive pines twisting up towards the sky, there always seems to be something green nearby, and the river is the main source of both herbs and prey for the cats of SummitClan.
The Living Stones -- located in the upper half of the mountain, just above the treeline, a small field of rocks, pebbles, and boulders creates a moorland of stone. During most of the day these rocks are in direct sunlight, soaking up warmth and light. However, this area stays hot even at night due to small earthen vents that release steam and warm air from inside the mountain. Because of this, when cats first stumbled across this feature, they believe the rock itself was breathing, and thought it was a cursed and dangerous place. However, they soon learned that it was the best place for relaxing in the sunshine and hunting small rodents like mice and voles.
The Cliff’s Edge -- the only path to the summit leads cats along what has been dubbed ‘The Cliff’s Edge’ a mile stretch of thin paths next to staggering drops, only the most surefooted cats feel comfortable journeying here. The closer to the summit one gets, the more snow covered and icy the paths get, making them even more slippery and dangerous. While most cats of SummitClan ironically avoid traveling to the summit, the cliffs are the best spot to catch large birds of prey like hawks and eagles. The pathways are forbidden for any apprentices who have not passed their climbing test.
The Upper Mountain -- on most days, the cats of SummitClan stay below the treeline and away from the Upper Mountain. Consisting of mainly stone, ice, and snow, the closer cats draw to the summit the more dangerous the landscape becomes. Sharp cut aways are matched with icy slides, and sharp and jagged stones seem to sit everywhere, cutting up pads and awaiting the unlucky cats who tumble off higher paths. However, the Upper Mountain does have its benefits. For starters, they provide the cats with snow and other resources that can only be found above the treeline. Mosses and lichens are more common up here- a vital resource for both bedding and the SummitClan burial process. And most important, the cats of SummitClan are the only ones who know the paths to navigate the Upper Mountain, making it a safe point for retreat if they were ever driven out of their home again.
The Lower Forest and Treeline -- The majority of the lower and middle mountain consists of pine forest. While broken up by rocky clearings, small meadows, and even smaller creeks, the prey found in these forests is fairly consistent. Rodents- whether it be mice, shrews, voles and more; as well as lagomorphs, and songbirds are the most common. However, larger predators like wolves, bears, foxes, and lynxes are also more common below the treeline.
The Ash Forest & Burning Stones -- A part of the Lower Forest, the Ash Forest is the remnants of a clearing of pines that burnt up in a wildfire many moons ago. While new growth is starting to rebuild, the landscape is still coated in ash and debris. Close to the center of this burnt up forest, are a pair of large stone slabs that appear to tilt up towards the summit of the mountain. When a cat of SummitClan passes away, their body is placed onto these burning stones and set on fire so that their soul can join the ancestors among the Haze.

Crystal Pool - Close to the side of the mountain, a large waterfall called Silver Falls pours itself off the edge into a pool of water at the bottom. Its waters is so clear that anyone can see the bottom where many large stones lay and different types of fish dwell. At the edges of the pool are different colored stones in many sizes that cats may collect to give to someone special to them. The pool is a great place for apprentice to catch fish in the shallow area or swim during the hot seasons.
Glowing Meadow - There's a clearing that ends the forest of the territory and expands into a meadow. It's common for the medicine cat to visit this location to collect any herbs that may need or other cats lying around in the tall flowers. The meadow contains many types of flowers, but during snow falls the entire area becomes white and the herbs can die from the weather change which means the medicine cat needs to collect before the season arrives. When first discovered, they believed the meadow was glowing due to the colors of the flowers becoming vibrant from the sunlight.
Twisted Forest - Deep in the forest there's an area with trees with their limbs twisting in different shapes and directions. The ground is covered in leafs and branches from these trees which make it a bit hard to walk through the area. Large stone towers scattered around the area which are from burial ceremonies done by the clan and some might have flowers on top to show memory of certain cats who have died. This place is sacred to them and it's frowned upon for cats to either hunt there or apprentices play there.
Mossy Stones - Near the mountain side is an area with large rocks pressed together that has fallen from the side of the mountain. The rocks are covered in moss which can be used for bedding or purposes of the medicine cat. Trees has grown from between the rocks which makes this the best place for warriors to bring their apprentices to train. They use the trees for climbing while the rocks are for jumping and fighting techniques if they ever have to fight on rocky terrain. When it rains, the moss becomes wet helps with learning to keep their balance when fighting.
I tried xD I don't know if I should add more or if this is fine.
