MyrtleClan Clan of the Gods
Welcome Welcome to MyrtleClan! Unlike most clans, this one is set in Ancient Greece, which means that, while they still have StarClan, most of the worship is dedicated to the gods of this world, an entire cat pantheon of gods loosely based on those from Greek mythology. The cats of MyrtleClan worship these gods and pray to them often.
Monsters and magic also exist in this world, just like in Greek mythology, and as such, sometimes they may run into trouble of some sort, whether that be harpies and sirens, or a demigod of some kind, or even the gods themselves. There’s also other clans, however their territories are stretched out and don’t touch, which means contact with them is rare, though it definitely happens, and sometimes wars happen.
The cats of MyrtleClan are diverse in both looks and responsibilities, as this clan isn’t run by warriors, but rather, fighters to defend their home, hunters to provide food, scouts to check for dangers and sneak around, and even entertainers for the cats who just aren’t quite as physically capable. With the amount of loners and rogues who wander through occasionally and MyrtleClan’s general hospitality, it isn’t too unusual for a loner to join the clan and bring in new blood to the clan, keeping the gene pool fresh.
Rules
i. Literacy. Listen, I get it, sometimes the muse is low or sometimes you just don’t have the energy for big posts. That’s all good here, so long as you avoid one liners and make sure your posts are easy to read and respond to, I don’t care how much you write.
ii. Mythology. This clan is heavily rooted in Greek mythology, you don’t have to know a bunch of mythology to join, but do recognize that this clan isn’t operating under normal rules. They may be a bit more advanced in some ways and there’s going to be things like gods, monsters, and occasionally magic. That said, don’t take it overboard and ask me before incorporating some sort of mythological aspect.
iii. LGBT+. This RP is LGBT+ friendly, which means we accept cats from this community. If you can’t accept that, this is not the RP for you.
iv. Activity. I’m an adult with a career and not as much free time as I would like, so I’m not asking for anything major as far as activity goes. Just try to reply at least once a week (though more is encouraged) and we’ll be alright. If you’re absent without telling me for over a week, and not even chatting in the discussion page, I’ll check in to see if you’re still interested and if it’s been a month, I’ll remove your cats, but I’ll give you plenty of warning first.
v. Harassment. This will not be tolerated at all. In character, issues with others are fine. But keep any OOC drama out of the RP. If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
vi. Spam. Please, don’t spam this thread. If you’re calling someone back to your RP, that’s alright, but please don’t do so repeatedly. Bumping is also not preferred, a little inactivity for a few hours is no big deal.
vii. Forum Rules. Forum rules are my rules. Follow them, and follow my rules as well.
viii. Realism. Alright, listen, this roleplay is not steeped in realism, I don’t care if you have a male calico or a white furred, blue eyed cat who isn’t blind or deaf or if the kits don’t 100% match their parents. However, please avoid things like winged cats, unrealistic fur and eye colors (pink, purple, etc), and don’t make your cats super OP. They can wear flower crowns on special occasions and paint their fur sometimes, they may be a bit more artistic than normal clan cats are and we will probably dive into powers at some point, but that’s all stuff that needs to be cleared by me first.
ix. Joining. Please join with at least one cat of both male and female genders. Feel free to make more than two, but no more than you can handle, please. I’d hate for a cat to be made and then never RP’ed. Also, please don’t join with a demigod or a cat chosen by the gods unless given permission, we’ll get to that, but not right away. As always, avoid Mary Sues and don’t have your cats be ridiculously OP.
x. Have Fun. The most important thing of any clan - any role play for that matter - is to have fun and enjoy yourself while you’re roleplaying and chatting among everyone. That is the ultimate goal of MyrtleClan!
Joining and Discussion If you’ve made it this far and want to join, awesome! Happy to have you! Here are the links to the joining page, the story page, and the discussion page for chatting, have at it! Please don’t post joining forms or endless chat in this thread, as this is for the actual roleplay and we have separate threads for those things.

MyrtleClan Clan of the Gods
Plot After a tragedy struck and both MyrtleClan’s leader and deputy were killed in a particularly dangerous storm, the clan was left without guidance. So, with the help of the elders, it fell upon the young and inexperienced medicine cat to choose a new leader with the help of the gods, prompting a series of games for every eligible warrior to compete in for a chance to become leader.
Basically, we start with the beginning of the games, which will include hunting, scouting, fighting, and general leadership, as well as some endurance tests to match the gods, as any eligible cat who wants to participate, can. Traditions
The Moon Traditions The Full Moon of Fenynthea - The Full Moon of Fenynthea, otherwise known as Fengári tis Filías is a special time for the whole clan, though especially the hunters. Since MyrtleClan isn’t close enough to any other clans to meet with them on a moon by moon basis, they celebrate the full moon by themselves. The leader will take a group of cats from each rank to the Moon Pillars for a celebration of the full moon. Legend states that Fenynthea and Parafroseos were once at odds with each other, as they could not understand each other. Eventually this led to a war that was stopped by Astrapeos, who helped them see eye to eye, and now, every full moon, the Clan celebrates the friendship between the gods. Each cat who goes will adorn themselves in body paint and decorate their fur in flower crowns. When they get there, they first pray to the gods, honoring all of them but especially Astrapeos, Fenynthea, and Parafroseos. Hunters will spend all day hunting in honor of Fenynthea so they can honor her with a feast at Fengári tis Filías. The leader will make any major announcements first and then let the chosen entertainers put on a show. This is also when any cats who have reached the age of 16 moons will have their debut into society as eligible for courting and they are often adorned in special body paint and flowers to honor this. The Clan will often not return until late. Fengári tis Filías is a time of peace and pleasure, a time to celebrate, which means there may be no contentions until the moon has set, lest you anger the gods.
The Oracle Moon - The Oracle Moon, otherwise known as Misós Ílios kai Selíni is a special time for the medicine cats specifically, set during the night of the half moon, this is when they will travel to the Alter of the Gods and enter the Pool of Ichor, a special cave with a hole in the roof for the moonlight to shine through, where only medicine cats or new leaders can go. Once inside, the medicine cats must cut themselves and offer up a small sacrifice of their own blood into the pool. Once their blood mingles with the water, Fenynthea will accept this sacrifice and summon her brother: Íliosikieos and a great light will surround the pool, turning it into a golden liquid. The medicine cats will then fully submerge themselves in the pool and be brought to the realm of Íliosikieos so that he can bestow prophecies onto the medicine cats. They will stay like that until the first light of dawn, as that is when Íliosikieos must return to the land of the gods and bring forth the day. This is a crucial time for the medicine cats as it could help them protect the clan from danger through the gift of prophecy and they will often decorate their fur in body paint and add a special laurel crown with poisonous berries to their heads. The berries are poisonous to represent their willingness to die for the gods, and to show that they trust the gods to protect them from harm. It is also customary that the medicine cat will bring an escort or two, especially if they lack an apprentice. Though this escort may not enter the Pool of Ichor and must wait outside in the Alter.
The Night of No Moon - The Night of No Moon, otherwise known as Kamía Nýchta Fengarioú takes place every new moon, when Fenynthea’s light doesn’t touch the sky. Because Fenynthea is gone, it is strictly forbidden for the hunters to hunt until the following night to go out again. Because of this, much of the Clan choose to fast on this night—as they believe fasting to be a way to ask for the gods protection against monsters who might hurt them—other than the kits, queens, and elders, who may eat whatever food the hunters catch before the night begins. But for the rest of the clan, this is a night of fast and a night of rest for the hunters. Though while this might be a time of rest for the hunters, it’s the exact opposite for the scouts. For this is a night dedicated to the scouts. The scouts will start the night by praying to Nýchthea and travel across the territory, staying up all night and not returning until morning. Legend says that it is during this night that monsters or wayward spirits might wander through the lands, making it extremely important for the scouts to diligently search the territory to ensure the clan’s safety until morning.
The Seasons Celebrations Ánoithea’s Return - Also known as Epistrofí ton Déntron, this is the first of the seasonal celebrations, this one takes place during the first week of New Leaf, when everyone is blooming and life is returning to the Clan. During this week, cats will pray to Ánoithea and welcome her return to the world, starting the first celebration with a gathering in Ánoithea’s Meadow, where the first flowers always bloom. Here, cats will choose a flower to pluck and stick in their fur for the rest of the day. Hunters will search specifically for her favorite prey; the goose. However, seeing how geese are rather large birds, catching one is no easy task, and whichever hunter succeeds in catching the goose is honored by Ánoithea and blessed to have a fruitful New Leaf. In addition to this, the entertainers will put on a different show every night of the week, recounting different tales related to Ánoithea and will work tirelessly to create a new ballad to honor the hunter who caught the goose—often referred to as “Ánoithea’s Chosen” for the season and will have smeared pomegranate juice over their forehead so everyone knows they are her chosen—and recite the ballad on the final day of Epistrofí ton Déntron. In addition to this, medicine cats will often make a sacrifice of the first herbs of the season to Ánoithea so she will bless them with many more herbs to come.
Parafroseos’ Dance - Also known as Chorós tis Afthonías, this is the celebration to bring in Green Leaf and is often strongly connected to Parafroseos. It is a week long celebration that starts with the entertainers visiting Synkomithea’s Garden to collect bundles of flowers and berries to bring back to camp to then mash and blend into paints. While the entertainers make the paint, the hunters will busy themselves with getting enough food to feast and a group of fighters and scouts will go into the forest and search for a beehive, where they will work together to collect enough honey to bring back for the entire camp. The elders will light a small fire in a pit so that on that night, the clan will adorn themselves in paint and flower crowns and dance around the fire, feasting on the prey from the hunters and the honey collected for the celebration, blessing the gods for the abundance of prey and herbs. The medicine cats will often use this as a time to replenish their stock of herbs and pray to Synkomithea for all that she has done for them, while the rest of the clan focuses on earning Parafroseos’ favor. The entertainers in specific will compete with each other in a show to earn Parafroseos’ favor, and by the end of the week, he will choose one entertainer as his chosen, they will have their forehead smeared in grape juice and have the first pick of prey to feast on. It is a title they will keep until the next season and is considered the most prized title amongst entertainers.
Spítithea’s Preparation - Also known as Proetoimasía tis Oikogéneias, this is the celebration to bring in Leaf Fall and is strongly connected to Spítithea as the Clan believes that she will protect them from the harsh cold approaching. Much like the other seasonal celebrations, this one is a week long and starts when the leafs begin to change color. There are many different parts of this celebration, as the clan will work together to fortify the Camp and insulate the nests for the coming snow and cold and the entertainers will share stories about Spítithea. It’s also a time of family and it’s encouraged for every family unit to take some time to do things together and wear panting paint so everyone knows they’re a family. The hunters of a family will hunt for the others while the entertainers dedicate stories to them. However, perhaps the biggest part of the celebration is for the fighters. Over the course of the week, the Furies will arise from their shadowy homes in the underworld and send at least one creature to steal the kits from the clan, as they are jealous that Spítithea is looked upon during this time and not them. So they wish to destroy what matters most to her. It falls on the fighters of the clan to stop this creature, and whichever fighter is the one to kill or chase it away will earn Spítithea’s blessing and become her chosen, they will have olive oil smeared over their forehead and get to share the the first pick of the prey pile with their family, having proven to be the best protector in the Clan. They will keep this title until the next season.
Nekreos’ Sacrifice - Also known as Monaxiá ton Nekrón, this is the celebration to bring in Leaf Bare and is much more reverent than the others. This begins upon the first snowfall and much like that other seasonal celebrations, it lasts a week. It is said that the first week of Leaf Bare is also the time where the veil between the living and the dead is at it’s thinnest and you must be very wary of wayward spirits and monsters during this time. Legend says that when the first snow falls, it means that the Furies have left the underworld in search of revenge and justice, angered that the Clan killed their beast. The clan will prepare for this one by sacrificing a screech owl to Nekreos. The hunters will work together to find the owl and bring it back before the week is over, while the elders prepare a fire for the sacrifice, as it needs to be burned in order for Nekreos to accept it. The medicine cat will be the one to throw it into the fire and start the prayers and the entertainers will focus on solemn poetry and song, rather than the lively stuff the rest of the seasons get, this way Nekreos will protect them against the Furies. However, the real highlight of this celebration lies within the scouts. For it will be the scouts tasked to find the Furies and challenge them to a battle of wits. The Furies may be angry and it is said that they cause the snow and the cold to make the Clans suffer as they do, with their bare skins that leave them constantly cold, but they are just. If a scout can beat them in a game of wits, they will return to the underworld until next Leaf Bare and Nekreos will reward whichever scout did this by naming them as his chosen. They will have their fur adorned with the plucked feathers of the screech owl for the rest of the celebration and will keep their title until the next season.

The Life Rites

9. A deputy will only become leader once the old leader dies or retires.

MyrtleClan Clan of the Gods
History MyrtleClan was founded long ago by a demigod, a child of Astrapeos after he was commanded to by the gods. His name was Lightning Burst and he would become Lightningstar, the founder of MyrtleClan. It is said that Lightingstar had once been part of a group of other demigods and that each of them went on to create a clan of their own, however, seeing as how MyrtleClan deals so infrequently with the other clans, no one has been able to confirm this. However, Lightingstar’s descendants still live within the clan, and some say you can always tell who is a descendant of Lightningstar for their powerful build and strength.
The Clan has currently had 11 different leaders, with the next leader set to be the 12th.
Previous Leaders - Lightningstar - Vulturestar - Lionstar - Spinystar - Olivestar - Vinestar - Dolphinstar - Jackalstar - Grapestar - Crystalstar - Laurelstar
Territory
MyrtleClan live in an olive tree grove nest the ocean, with a forest and cliffs all around them, giving them access to a wide variety of territory as well as prey, however, it also comes with its own struggles of numerous predators and unstable weather.

Synkomithea's Gardens - A spot in the thick of the forest where you can find just about any herb and a mixture of different fruit trees and flowers surrounding it. Legend says that Synkomithea planted each herb and tree there herself back in the days of the first medicine cat: Pool of Lavender, otherwise known as Lavenderpool, Synkomithea’s first apprentice. Synkomithea planted the herbs so that the clan would always have ready access to medicine, and it is a favored place of the medicine cats. Hunting here is forbidden though, and killing anything within her gardens will surely summon Synkomithea’s wrath upon the clan in the form of pestilence and plague. To ensure that no hunting is done within the gardens, lavender bushes have been planted all around it as a fence to keep hunters out, and fighters regularly patrol it to ensure no outsiders have wandered inside and angered the medicine goddess.
Ánoithea's Meadow - A meadow that sits close by the caves, this is a special field of flowers dedicated to Ánoithea, for legend states that this was where she was when Nekreos saw her and whisked her away to the underworld. It is also said to be the place where the first flowers bloom to signify the coming of New Leaf. Hunting is permitted here, but only during Leaf Fall and Leaf Bare, when Ánoithea herself is not present. However, it is a lovely place to relax and entertainers will often visit the meadow for a peaceful place to practice the arts.

The Alter of the Gods - A large cave hidden behind a shield of vines and a long, narrow path, this is where cats go to pray to the gods and seek their guidance. Inside, there are statues built by Skafoteos himself to honor each of the gods and a small hole in front of each one to drop sacrifices into. The walls are lined with these statues, with the largest one, the one belonging to Astrapeos in the back wall. There are also places to keep sticks and shards of flint for the purpose of lighting small fires within the sacrificial craters. Though, the art of making and containing fires is somewhat of a dangerous practice and therefore, it is only the medicine cats, leader, deputy, and senior most warriors who are trained in the art. Anyone in the clan may enter the Alter of the Gods and take sanctuary there, but they must wipe their paws off in the pond outside first and it is the responsibility of the clan to keep the Alter clean, which often leads to the apprentices being tasked with keeping it clean once a week.
The Pool of Ichor - a place located inside the Alter of the Gods, this is forbidden for most cats, as it is a sacred place for medicine cats and leaders only. It is a small cavern inside the cave, tucked off to the side, with walls filled with sparkling crystals and a small hole in the roof for light to shine in and perfectly circular pool directly in the center. This is where medicine cats receive prophecies from Íliosikieos and where leaders receive their nine lives. It is considered the most holy place in the territory and it must be kept cleaning, often leading to medicine cat apprentices being tasked with the weekly upkeep of the pool.
The Moon Pillars - A grassy clearing covered in large rocks up on the cliffs, what makes the Moon Pillars so unique is that there are stairs and pillars left behind from twolegs who built them. The twolegs are long gone, but the structures remain by the will of Skafoteos. This is where MyrtleClan gathers every full moon to pray to the gods and celebrate another moon’s passing, with the rocks across the grass being for the Clam to sit and share tongues while the leader, deputy, medicine cat, and any cats coming of age will sit on the floor below the pillars for the meeting part of the ceremony and give part of the floor to the entertainer to preform their show.

Puddleheart Camp | With low key everyone (@open) Flecks of light pooled through the gaps in the leaves, decorating the camp in the early morning glow of the sun. It was a peaceful morning, serene even, far more tranquil on the outside than Puddleheart felt on the inside.
Only two days ago had a terrible storm swept across MyrtleClan’s territory, leaving tragedy in its wake.
Puddleheart blinked, and the second his eyes closed, the memory of the flash flood resurfaced. It hadn’t reached the camp, luckily, but it had swept across the clearing just south of here, where cats often went to train.
Puddleheart could clearly remember the way his heart picked up speed and panic coursed through him. That was his first real event after the passing of his mentor, two moons earlier.
Pomegranatefur had been old and in the last few months since giving him his medicine cat name, her health had significantly declined to the point where she was more of a patient of his than a mentor.
Still, Puddleheart was certain she would’ve known what to do during that storm. She would’ve made sure that both leader and deputy weren’t lost.
Unfortunately, Pomegranatefur was gone and Puddleheart was left to pick up the pieces.
Puddleheart blinked open his eyes and sighed, looking up toward the sky. It was a clear day, with not a cloud in sight. No one would’ve ever suspected the storm that had just recently passed through.
For a moment, Puddleheart wondered if the storm had been Okeaneos’ doing, and if it was, what had MyrtleClan done to anger the sea god? Why would he choose to take both leader and deputy from them? Why would he leave MyrtleClan without guidance?
Perhaps, later that day, Puddleheart would make a trip to the cave of the gods and pray to Okeaneos for answers.
For now though, he had other matters to attend to.
After all, the time of silent mourning was over now, and Laurelstar and Fignose’s souls were being carried to StarClan by Porthmeíos, they would be well looked after by the god of souls.
It was now time to start the process of picking a new leader.
Most of the clan should be awake by now, and those that weren’t would surely wake up for this.
Getting to his feet, Puddleheart made his way across the camp, stopping outside the cliff side cave that belonged to the leader. It was empty now, but Laurelstar’s nest was still inside.
He poked his head inside and bent his ears back, staring at the dark entrance looming in front of him. He had been to the leader’s den before, plenty of times, often to confide an issue in Laurelstar and seek her guidance, knowing she would always be patient with him. But now, what used to feel warm and inviting was cold and daunting.
Puddleheart barely stepped foot inside when a voice called out to him.
”Puddleheart, my friend, what are you doing?”
Puddleheart paused and looked behind him to see Thundersnap waiting for him. The large and lean marbled tom was sitting down with his tail curled over his paws, a curious glint in his striking eyes.
”Oh, Thundersnap, I didn’t see you there,” Puddleheart admitted and took a small step back. ”I need to retrieve Laurelstar’s nest for the games, I just…haven’t yet.”
Thundersnap’s eyes lit up in recognition. ”That’s right, the games are starting today, aren’t they?” He mused, an almost all too innocent tone to his voice that made Puddleheart wonder if that was the real reason he had come over here. ”I can go get that nest for you if you want.”
Thundersnap moved toward the den and Puddleheart immediately stepped in front of him.
”I can’t let you in there. You know that until a new leader is chosen, the only cats allowed in the leader’s den are the medicine cat and the elders,” Puddleheart reminded him and lifted his head in the air. ”Now, I’ll be right back.” With that, Puddleheart took a breath and stepped into the den, blinking as his eyes adjusted to the dark.
Inside the small cave, he looked around the walls, spotting all the different paintings on the walls, the markings of previous leaders leaving a little piece of them behind. From the lightning bolt mark of Lightningstar all the way to Laurelstar’s laurel pattern.
Puddleheart stopped at Laurelstar’s mark, his eyes trailing over it for a moment before looking to the blank spot next to it. The next leader, whoever they may be, would put their mark there, signifying a new dawn for MyrtleClan.
Puddleheart sighed, sitting down and slumping his shoulders. ”It’s going to be hard to pick someone new,” he whispered quietly, lifting his gaze from the floor to the laurel design. ”You left quite the mark on this Clan, Laurelstar, I’m not sure I trust myself to pick someone else.”
It gave Puddleheart some comfort to know that at least it wouldn’t be solely up to him. The gods would guide him to the right choice. He just had to trust in the gods.
After a few moments, Puddleheart got back up and walked over to Laurelstar’s nest, dragging it out by his teeth until he was back outside the cave and into the clearing of their camp.
Thundersnap was still waiting for him, and when Puddleheart stepped outside, Thundersnap reached forward to help him move the nest into a more visible spot.
Once it had been moved, Puddleheart smiled softly. ”Thank you, Thundersnap,” he said with a grateful nod of his head.
Thundersnap flicked his tail in response, a light purr emitting from his chest. ”Of course, Puddleheart. I would do anything to serve my Clan,” he explained and paused, his eyes flickering up to the jagged rock poking out from beside the cave, where leaders called meetings. ”You should get up there, Puddleheart, I’ll round up anyone still in their dens,” he promised.
Puddleheart nodded in appreciation and took a deep breath, looking up at the jagged rock for a few moments before he exhaled and climbed up to the top. Once he stood on the ledge, he looked out to the camp, spotting various fighters, hunters, scouts, and entertainers, most of them waiting for the meeting they knew would come.
Puddleheart took another shaky breath and cleared his throat, raising his voice to get the other’s attention. ”Cats of MyrtleClan, gather near Lightning Rock to hear my words,” he called, reciting the words he had heard Laurelstar say countless of times before to call a meeting.

When Puddleheart’s call rang out across the camp, Rainpaw was already awake, crouching just outside the apprentices’ den. Two days ago the storm had hit MyrtleClan hard, and two days had passed since the mottled gray apprentice had gotten any proper sleep. Racked with too much guilt to sleep peacefully at night. He was not in Mínyeos’ favor, but he didn’t feel like he deserved it.
It was Laurelstar, the clan’s now previous leader, who saved his life when the floods had started. Rainpaw was one of the strongest swimmers in the clan, but even the current was too strong for him. By the mercy of Okeaneos, Laurelstar was at the right place at the right time to help him to safety. Now Laurelstar was gone and now every time he sees Cloverpounce, his heart clenched with grief. He wouldn’t put it pass the warrior to blame him for her mother’s death.
With a soft, tired huff, Rainpaw got to his paws and made his way over to the cliff where Puddleheart had summoned the clan.

Mothflutter Mothflutter sat just in front of the smooth rocks the entertainers used to share their stories, his sister; Pearlfeather, sat next to him, her head tipped to the side and ears perked in a way that Mothflutter knew she was listening to everything around her. She might not have been able to see, but Mothflutter often thought of his sister as the much more aware one out of the two.
”Puddleheart is bringing out the nest,” Pearlfeather mused in that soft-spoken voice Mothflutter had grown used to. ”The games must be beginning soon.”
Mothflutter immediately looked over to the leader’s den, spotting the young medicine cat dragging out Laurelstar’s old nest. It pained him to see it. That was where Laurelstar had slept, and she had always been so kind to Mothflutter, he admired her.
He also noticed Thundersnap helping and nodded in approval. It made sense that Thundersnap was helping, he had been an apprentice to Laurelstar, back when Mothflutter was just a kit. He must be feeling the grief extra hard.
Puddleheart then climbed up Lightning Rock and called a meeting. Mothflutter was already close enough to hear it all, but his eyes drifted out to the other cats in the clearing until they landed on his apprentice: Rainpaw.
Mothflutter winced. This had to be extra hard on him, he was sure. Laurelstar had given her last life to save him. Mothflutter wanted to make sure Rainpaw knew it was worth it.
Tipping his head a little closer to his sister, Mothflutter lowered his voice. ”I’ll be right back,” he promised quietly and got up, padding over to join Rainpaw near the apprentice’s den.
”Hey,” Mothflutter greeted, sitting down next to him and curling his tail over his paws. ”Are you…” he trailed off, the words getting lost in his throat. He wanted to ask if Rainpaw was okay, but in such a public place, he also didn’t want to trigger an intense reaction. ”Are you excited for the games?” Mothflutter asked instead, looking up toward Puddleheart. ”I wonder who will participate.”

With his mentor Mothflutter at his side, Rainpaw straightened up as best he could, looking like the young optimistic apprentice he had always been even before the storm. Yet he knew his mentor could see right through the front. At least Mothflutter gave him the space to grieve, never pushing the subject. That’s was one of the many reasons he respected the young hunter so much.
“I’m excited for the games,” Rainpaw chirped. His eyes landed on the tall, sleek shape of a familiar fighter, “I’m willing to bet two mouse tails that Thundersnap is going to compete. He would want to honor Laurelstar by following in her paw steps.”
He turned his attention back to Mothflutter, “You should compete too! There aren’t any rules against younger cats playing in the games, and you could represent the hunters!”
(Rainpaw partaking in the typical mentor hero worshipping that apprentices tend to do <3 he really respects Moth)

Cloverpounce Camp | With everyone It’s too soon. Cloverpounce’s ever-present smile faltered at the corners, seeing the nest, Laurelstar’s nest, dragged out of her den. Yes, the games needed to happen and yes, she already knew that her mother would want things to continue on, but the sight made her have to bite her tongue, fighting back a fresh wave of nausea. No, no this grief wasn’t going to help anyone. Shaking her head, shaking away all those nasty thoughts, fluffy ears flopping a bit as she did so, she padded forward, looking up at the young medicine cat. She’d always liked him, thought he did a good job despite everything. The weight on his shoulders right now… With a sidelong glance, she noticed the apprentice and his mentor, and sat close to them, large fluffy tail curling around her and over her paws. She flicked an ear, smiling. “Been a while since we’ve had the games, huh?” She asked Mothflutter, sounding happy despite it all, pointedly looking away from her mother's nest. “Ya gonna put yourself out there? I think ya have it in ya!” Looking to Rainpaw, she kept up the smile. He needs it right now. Even if some part of her held a level of resentment, she knew it wasn’t justified. Her mother wouldn’t approve of such feelings, especially since it was the right move for her to save him… No-one could have known the flood would be that bad. And he was only an apprentice. She was wrong to even think of blaming him.

(I would die for Rainpaw, I love him, and so does Mothflutter) Mothflutter Mothflutter purred softly at Rainpaw’s excitement. It was good to see him excited, even if Mothflutter had a hunch that it was at least partially an act. Most of the cats here would still be feeling the grief of Laurelstar and Fignose for a while, but it was different for some. Mothflutter knew it would hit hardest on their families, their personal friends, previous apprentices, or in Rainpaw’s case, the cat they had died for.
Still, Mothflutter was happy to focus on the excitement. ”Thundersnap is definitely going to compete,” he agreed and let his eyes trail toward the other tom. He had often admired Thundersnap for his strength and determination. Though, Mothflutter wasn’t above admitting that Thundersnap had far more ambition than he ever would.
Mothflutter laughed lightheartedly when Rainpaw suggested he should compete, however, before he could say anything, Cloverpounce joined them.
Mothflutter flicked his tail in greeting to the she-cat. Wondering how she must be doing with all of this. However, he kept the topic light. ”Oh, I don’t think I’ll be competing,” he admitted and looked over toward Puddleheart. ”Rainpaw’s my first apprentice, I want to focus on finishing his training. Besides, I don’t think I could handle the responsibility of leader,” he admitted with a lighthearted laugh.
Truthfully, Mothflutter wasn’t even sure if he could compete yet, since Rainpaw was still an apprentice. But he honestly didn’t want to. ”We’ll just have to hope another hunter decides to compete to represent us, right, Rainpaw?” He questioned, nudging his apprentice slightly before he looked over at Cloverpounce.
”What about you, Cloverpounce?” Mothflutter asked curiously, tipping his head to the side. ”Will you be continuing on the family legacy?”

Cloverpounce Camp | With Rainpaw and Mothflutter Cloverpounce hummed in thought, looking up at the sky, the clear blue with only the wispy remains of the clouds that had started all of this. “I mean, I think it’d be fun to do!” The thought had been sitting on her back all day. Would she join the games? Should she? It wasn’t something she had ever considered before. But then again, Laurelstar had always been there before, and she’d never considered the fact that one day, she wouldn’t be there. “I think I ought to at least try. Doubt I’ll get very far but–” Her gaze landed back onto the nest. “...I think she would’ve wanted me to make an attempt.” Then her smile brightened and she chuckled. “And hey, it’ll probably be entertaining watching me fail through the games! Get some laughs going, y'know? It’ll do us all some good.”Stoatchase Camp | With everyone Meanwhile, at the camp entrance, Stoatchase lingered, rabbit held between his jaws carefully, trying to not damage the meat– he couldn’t stand when he left anything but a killing blow on prey. Meetings weren’t exactly his thing: too many people, too many eyes, judging and staring and he never knew where to put his paws or how to hold his tail. For a little while he’d considered just going back out for another hunt and ignoring the whole thing. He shook his head, tall ears pinning back a little. He wasn’t going to be disrespectful. So he made his way to the fresh-kill pile, set down the rabbit, admiring the sight for a moment, before quietly slinking to the back of the gathering of cats, wondering, for a moment, where Fawnpaw was. It was slightly easier to have someone who talked a lot around to make up for the fact that he barely talked at all. A cursory glance around made his fur bristle a bit. Like always, it was just too many cats. And even when no one was looking at him, he felt more conscious of how he sat, how he held himself. He tensed up, willing himself to blend in with the background. Flickerpaw Camp | With everyone Like usual, Flickerpaw’s ears were on a swivel, listening in on other cats’ conversations. This wasn’t something she was used to. At only 7 moons old, she had never witnessed the games, only hearing about them from the elders and such, and this was positively fascinating. Quietly padding forward, almost in a hunting crouch, she tried to creep up towards the center of the group, eyes aflame with curiosity. Could apprentices participate? She didn’t know and wanted to find out. And if she got into the games, would the Gods allow it? She hoped so, it was all too exciting and she wanted, needed to be involved. Flickerpaw paused, seeing the nest, and frowned. Why was that there? Sniffing the air, she realized it was Laurelstar’s. For a moment, she sat there, glancing about, ready to creep forward again, glancing around to make sure her mentor, Sablefrost, wasn't around.

The entire conversation between his mentor and Cloverpounce, Rainpaw had gone quiet. He was unable to look at the fighter directly in the eye, opting to either look to Mothflutter or his own paws, or Cloverpounce’s shoulders, or her ears, just anywhere that wasn’t her eyes. He couldn’t imagine what she must’ve thought of him. It made him shutter to even think.
Despite the slight disappointment that Mothflutter had no interest in competing in the games, his interest peaked when Cloverpounce showed some interest.
“F-For what it’s worth, Cloverpounce,” Rainpaw squeaked, cringing internally at himself for the stutter, “I think you would make a good leader…”
She was his clanmate for Okeaneos’ sake, not a murderous rogue! Why was it so hard to speak to her?
Because you lived, that’s why.

Ivypaw-Camp-Everyone Hearing the call of Puddleheart the young tom headed over to gather amongst his clanmates. He spotted his mentor over with Mothflutter and Rainpaw, his tail twitching as he debated on going over there and joining the trio, but decided not to unless his mentor made it clear it would be fine. Instead shifted his gaze to the rest of his clanmates, he hummed to himself seeing the nest, he heard talk of how the games somewhat worked, mostly how to join was he was most interested. All he had to do was put something in the nest, he'd just have to try do it when eyes would be on the warriors doing the same and surely they couldn't just take his thing out and say he couldn't do it. The leaf he was trying his best to hide in his fur should surely work! I'll get others in a bit brain is trying)

Mothflutter Mothflutter tipped his head to the side as he looked at Cloverpounce, she acted cheerful, even throwing out a couple jokes at her expense, however, Mothflutter couldn’t quite bring himself to laugh at them.
”Rainpaw’s right, Cloverpounce, I think you’d make an excellent leader,” Mothflutter told her with a nod of his head and a flick of his tail. Not only was Cloverpounce the daughter of Laurelstar, but she was a powerful fighter and warrior in her own right. Mothflutter was sure she would make a great leader if given the chance.
”I wonder if any of the scouts will put their name in,” Mothflutter added curiously. ”I can’t think of a time we’ve had a scout for leader or deputy.” Laurelstar had been a fighter, and Fignose a hunter, and Mothflutter only vaguely remembered the deputy before Fignose, as he had only been a kit at the time.
He was pretty sure the previous deputy had also been a fighter though, and if he was honest, he could see why.
It wasn’t that Mothflutter disliked the scouts, but he had to admit that he was a little bit intimidated by them. The scouts were sneaky, cunning, and often the most nocturnal of the clan. There was a very own air to them, like they were shrouded in mystery.

Sablefrost Sablefrost had already been out when the meeting was called, lurking in a particular shadowed part of the camp as she watched her clanmates move around in the early morning. She had already been up for hours, keeping a look out over the camp for most of the night, and if she could, she’d try to ensure she got to sleep sometime during the heat of the day.
But for now, Sablefrost was content simply to watch as Thundersnap gathered the few cats still in their nests and urged them out for Puddleheart’s meeting. Sablefrost couldn’t help but feel some sympathy for the young medicine cat, he had only been without his mentor for two moons, and only had his name for four. He was young, far too young to have the weight of the entire clan on his shoulders.
Hopefully, soon, they’d have a leader to shoulder that responsibility for him.
Speaking of the leader…Sablefrost tipped her head to the side, flicking her ear as she caught sight of her young apprentice poking around Laurelstar’s empty nest.
Sablefrost sighed. Nothing good would come out of that.
Carefully, she got to her feet, moving along the border of the camp until she drew closer to Flickerpaw and spoke up to get her attention. ”That’s not your nest, little one,” she told them, stepping out of the shadows. ”Why don’t you join me over here?”

Fawnpaw Fawnpaw poked her head out of the apprentice’s den, twitching her whiskers as she looked around camp. She had never experienced the games before, but she had heard tales about them and she was excited. Fawnpaw knew that this was also a somber time, with the loss of their leader and deputy still weighing heavily in the air.
But it was also exciting. Fawnpaw wished she was old enough to participate, she would make a great leader one day, but she knew it wasn’t her time yet. She would simply have to wait for the next time the games happened.
Padding out of the apprentice’s den, Fawnpaw spotted her brother close by and smirked, immediately padding over to join him. ”Hi Ivypaw!” she greeted happily, though perhaps a bit too loud as well. ”Are you excited for the games? I’m so excited, it’s going to be so much fun!” She exclaimed and looked around at all the other warriors in the camp. ”I wonder who the next leader is going to be,” she mused and let out a hum, examining all the warriors in the camp carefully, as if trying to predict who it would be. ”I bet it’ll be Thundersnap,” Fawnpaw decided after a moment.
Thundersnap was a brave warrior, and he had been trained by Laurelstar herself. He would make a fine leader.
”Who do you think it’ll be?” Fawnpaw questioned, looking back at her brother.

Ivypaw had been so fixed on the nest, that the voice of his sister caused him to jump, his fur bristling out of the small spark of panic that swept through him. He quickly shook out his fur, as embarrassment flooded him, as he looked to Fawnpaw his grin widening at her words, glad to see she shared his excitement on the matter, despite the somber mood that had bene plaguing the clan since the flood. His tail flicking out behind him as he looked to the warriors thinking it over. " Thundersnap definitely has a shot, he's incredibly skilled despite being one of our younger fighters," he agreed. " Though i feel Cloverpounce has a great shot to, plus her mom was Laurelstar surely the Gods will look rather favorably towards her as a result." Sure Cloverpounce was also his mentor, but he had first paw experience to her skills, and he was always looking forward to each new session with her. " But it can still be anyone's game, i think I remember them saying theres many different aspects to it, so every cat has a shot I suppose." He eyed the other warriors around his gaze sweeping towards where some of the entertainers where. " Though I suppose not every cat..." While he knew the entertainers were just as an important part of the clan, tending to guests, he felt bad that they weren't allowed to join the games, though they probably wouldn't be good at it.

Cloverpounce Cloverpounce looked to Rainpaw, and for a moment, a flicker of hesitance was in those bright green eyes of hers. But then she blinked and all that was visible was her usual jovial nature. “Well, that’s real sweet of y’all, but, if I have to be honest, I dunno how seriously I’m gonna take all of this.” She chuckled, looking away quickly, towards the crowd. Then swished her tail in front of her, dislodging the clover that she had picked and nestled into her fur. It gently fell to the dusty ground, the bright green a little wilted from how the time it had spent picked from its stem. What she would be placing in the nest. She rested her paw against it before looking up again. “I think a scout leader would be a good change.” She commented at Mothflutter’s words. “Would certainly be a bit weird, but weird isn’t all bad.”

Flickerpaw Camp | With Sablefrost(𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 ) Flickerpaw practically squeaked like a mouse hearing Sablefrost behind them. She wasn’t the best with picking up scents yet, not the most amazing example of a scout, but given she was only a moon into training, that could hardly be held against her. Then she made her bristling fur lay flat, sat up and tilted their head at their mentor. “I know joining the games has something to do with the nest, and–” She glanced around the group. How some were holding token to represent themselves, their eyes on the nest. Specifically, she noticed Cloverpounce’s apprentice, Ivypaw. Her eyes lit up. “I know you put something in it to show you’re gonna participate.” She leaned over towards a den, biting onto a bramble and pulling it free. Through a full jaw, she mumbled, “So I’ll put somefin’ in!” She spat the bramble out at her paws, grinning. “I think I can handle it, besides, I wanna know what the fuss is about!”

PIKEPAW-CAMP-EVERYONE While most were gaining excitement over the notion of the games, to her all it felt like was just the clan moving on and finding a cat to replace her father. She gave a few licks to her fur where she was lying, not heading over to where other cats where gathering, while she knew it was rude to ignore a meeting call, the young she cat just…couldn't really be bothered to go join them. Wrapping her tail around herself, she tried hard to remember the last interaction she had with her father, why hadn't she had tried more to hang out with him, so she could ensure he was committed to her memory. Her claws flexed into the earth slightly, she hated Okeaneos for sensing the flood, if she had the ability to she would shred his ears off! Her gaze shifted to the sky with a glare. Count your days fish breath!WOLFPAW-CAMP-EVERYONE Hearing the call Wolfpaw hesitated to move from his nest, was he supposed to go? Puddleheart had called for everyone, his ears perking as he focused on his surroundings, he pushed himself out of his nest when he was sure there was no one around him, the tom carefully navigating through the den, he had gotten enough practice that as long as no one had moved their nest he was able to carefully find his way. Eventually poking his head out of the den, he gave a cautious tap in front of him with his paw before slipping out the rest of the way, his ears pullings back at the overwhelming scents of all his clanmates in the clearing, he backed up a bit debating going back into the safety of the den. Backing up the tom couldn't help the small jump as he backed into the wall beside the entrance to the den, his ears flicking in embarrassment, he hoped everyone was to preoccupied with...whatever it was to pay him any mind.

Fawnpaw Fawnpaw rolled her eyes and nudged her brother. ”Of course you’d say Cloverpounce, she’s your mentor, not supporting your mentor is like…against the code or something,” she stated. Though, Fawnpaw actually had no idea if that was in the code. Now, she did think Cloverpounce would be a good leader as well. She was fun and strong and Fawnpaw thought she was very cool, but she wasn’t going to tell Ivypaw that.
It did, however, make her think of something else and Fawnpaw’s eyes immediately lit up. ”I bet Stoatchase could do it!” Fawnpaw declared confidently. Her mentor was the best hunter in the entire clan, if anyone would make a good leader, it would be him. Plus, then maybe he would make her his deputy.
”We should see if Stoatchase is going to compete,” Fawnpaw decided after a moment. ”He’d made a great leader!”

Mothflutter Mothflutter could understand not taking it too seriously. The games sounded fun to compete in, if it didn’t come with the daunting challenge of being leader if you won. He knew he could never handle that sort of responsibility. So instead, he chose to focus on the possible scouts who could participate.
Icemoon was a little young and hadn’t trained an apprentice yet, but Fletchingtail and Sablefrost would both be good contenders, even if Mothflutter hadn’t spoken much with either of them. ”Do you talk to the scouts much, Cloverpounce? They must have more in common with you fighters than us hunters,” he mused and let out a faint chuckle. ”Honestly, I’m a little intimidated by them…”

Sablefrost Sablefrost let out a hum of realization. Of course Flickerpaw would try to join the games, they were a curious and…energetic apprentice, with far more enthusiasm for life than Sablefrost had. She often wondered why Flickerpaw had wanted to be a scout when she would’ve made an excellent entertainer, but Sablefrost was happy to train her regardless.
…Well, “happy” might’ve been a stretch, but Sablefrost did take it seriously.
”Apprentices can’t become leader,” Sablefrost reminded them gently and flicked her tail. ”You’ll have to wait for the next games when you’re older and already a warrior,” she said and started to guide Flickerpaw away with her tail. ”Now, why don’t you go sit with your friends over there?” she suggested, gesturing with the tip of her head toward Ivypaw and Fawnpaw. ”And listen closely as Puddleheart explains more about the games.”

Flickerpaw A pout formed on their muzzle as they looked up at Sablefrost. She sighed, ears flicking back as her mentor’s tail guided her away from the nest. Grumbling under her breath in a tone that was hardly able to be discerned (though the phrase ‘stupid rules’ seemed to come up a few times), she rose to all fours and padded towards the another apprentices, thin tail drooping low. They perked up a bit being around the others though, and her ears twitched hearing something about Stoatchase. “That guy? Is he putting himself in the games?” They asked, tail swishing with curiosity. They knew of Stoatchase, saw him around camp (when he was even there), but a lot of what they knew was just from Fawnpaw.

Puddleheart Camp | With well…everyone (@open)
Puddleheart waited until he had spotted the last few stragglers leaving their nests before he spoke again.
He was painfully aware of all the eyes on him and did his best not to shrink underneath the pressure.
”As you all know, two days ago, we lost Laurelstar and Fignose,” Puddleheart started. ”We have mourned for them and prepared their souls to be carried to StarClan by Porthmeíos, they will be well cared for. But now, it is time we plan for our future.” Puddleheart gulped, feeling another rush of nerves course through his veins.
”Laurelstar’s nest lays empty before us, her den quiet, a blank spot on the wall for the next leader to come. So today, with the gods above us to bear witness, we begin the Lightning Games!” Puddleheart announced loudly, feeling the excitement rise from the crowds. ”All eligible warriors may compete for a chance to be named the next leader of MyrtleClan. So, fighters, scouts, and hunters, if any of you have completed the training of at least one apprentice, please step forward.”
Puddleheart watched as Thundersnap immediately stepped forward, moving into the center of the clearing, right below Lightning Rock. He had a confident look in his eyes as he swished his long tail behind him.
Others also stepped forward, and Puddleheart’s eyes flickered to the nimble form of Sablefrost as her shadowy pelt moved through the crowds until she had joined the others in the center.
Mothflutter stayed back, sitting close to Rainpaw. He had an apprentice, but Rainpaw was not a warrior yet. Mothflutter was not yet eligible to compete.
Fawnpaw fidgeted in excitement, watching with wide eyes to see who would step forward as she sat next to her brother.
A fluffy head of white and silver poked out from the apprentice’s den as Dolphinpaw joined the others, head tipped curiously to the side before he slunk off to join Pearlfeather near the entertainers’ area.
Finally, Puddleheart spotted Honeydusk sitting just outside the elder’s den, she was staring directly up at him, and when he caught her looking, she nodded her head to him.
It was a simple gesture, but it helped calm Puddleheart’s nerves. He wasn’t alone in this. Not only did he have the gods, but he knew he could always trust Honeydusk and the other elders to help him through this as well.
And that was reassuring.
Once all the eligible warriors had stepped forward, Puddleheart took a breath, forcing the tremble out of his throat as he continued. ”Now, just like when it comes time to pick a deputy, we cannot begin the games quite yet,” Puddleheart spoke up. ”First, all those who wish to compete must search for a symbol of their strength, something to represent who you are. When you have found this symbol, whether it be a rock to show that you are strong, or a feather to show that you are fast, or something else entirely, you may put it inside Laurelstar’s nest as a sign of your participation.” Puddleheart glanced toward Laurelstar’s empty nest, wondering how full it would be by tonight.
He shook his head and focused back on the others. ”You have until the last light of the sun disappears beneath the skyline to submit your symbol. Once Íliosikieos has hidden the last of his light and his sister Fenynthea guides our path, we will begin the first game!” Puddleheart announced and flicked his tail. ”A trial picked by Fenynthea herself, all those set to compete will be tasked with hunting down a specific animal. If you fail to bring your chosen prey back to camp by moonhigh, you will not move on to the next trial.”
Puddleheart was grateful Pomegranatefur had taught him about MyrtleClan’s traditions, otherwise he was sure he would be lost right now. But he knew what to do. Each day, for seven days, all contestant would compete in a trial chosen by the gods while Puddleheart watched.
The trials were an important part of the games, as it showed their skills, their resilience, and their leadership abilities. But more than that, it also gave both Puddleheart and the gods a chance to watch how they reacted to failure, to victory, and to pressure.
In the end, the final trial would be one of Puddleheart’s choosing, one where the duty to pick the next leader of MyrtleClan would fall directly on his shoulders.
He would need these next six days to observe before making such an important decision.
”However, before everyone starts looking for their symbols, we um…we need to still keep up with Clan duties,” Puddleheart added, speaking up again. ”We still need food for the day and our borders checked, so if anyone would like to volunteer to lead a hunting party and a border patrol, please let me know,” Puddleheart added.
Thundersnap quickly stepped forward. ”I’ll lead a border patrol,” he offered and turned toward the rest of the clan. ”If any fighters would like to join me, meet me at the entrance after the meeting is over,” he requested and looked back up to Puddleheart. ”Please, continue.”
Puddleheart nodded and cleared his throat. ”Thank you, Thundersnap,” he said and turned to face the rest of the clan. ”Hunters, what about you? Are any of you willing to lead a patrol?”

Ivylaw frowned slightly, was it against the rules to not like your mentor? Was there ever a time where an apprentice hated their mentor? Vice versa? " She's awesome! How can I not mention her!" He sprang to his paws as if to illustrate his point. His eyes light up at the mention of Stoatchase. His sister soke highly of her mentor, and Ivypaw held nothing but respect for the older tom as a result. " Stoatchase would be amazing as well," he agreed with his sister. He looked to see where Stoatchase was ready to see if he was going to join the games when Flickerpaw came over. His eyes lighting up at their friend. " We are going to find out," he said. If not surely there wasn't a rule against nominating someone? Making stoatchase's life harder)

Rainpaw’s ears flicked with muted excitement when Puddleheart called for hunting party volunteers. Even after the turmoil and grief the storm had caused him and his clan, hunting and fishing still brought him joy. In the five moons he had been training under Mothflutter’s training, he felt he was becoming a fine hunter. Hopefully Laurelstar is proud of me. I won’t let her sacrifice be in vain.
He glanced back to Mothflutter, looking at him expectantly, wondering if they would join the hunting party.

Stoatchase Camp | With everyone Stoatchase visibly sagged with relief when the words ‘hunting party’ came up, his posture less hunched over. Hunting… Hunting was good. Hunting meant he didn’t really have to talk with anyone and could just focus on what he enjoyed the most. It was, after all, all he was good for. What else did he have to offer? He stood, tail flicking as he, hesitant as he was, looked to Puddleheart. “I–” He swallowed thickly, unsure, regretting the fact that he even opened his jaws, even if his voice was only murmurs that were difficult to parse. “I’ll..I’ll hunt, uhm… Er– the- the patrol.. I’ll um..” Visibly shrinking down, messy fur bristling, he decided to abandon the attempt and just made towards the camp exit, trying to pretend he was okay with having drawn any kind of attention to himself. He could hunt, so he'd just stick to that.
