Following the yellowcough epidemic, Perilstrike's friends and family seem to breathe easier with Sparrowlight's death and they grieve their loses. Even Mistycloud shows a bit of regret losing Clearpaw, an apprentice who she knew she didn't train all too well. Dawnpaw, Weaselpaw and Foxpaw snuck out of camp. Wrensong notices them missing and goes out searching with Sparklily and Lightningblaze. They manage to find the apprentices, who were mostly unharmed except Foxpaw, who had twisted his paw. Both the younger apprentices are confined to camp for a week as Wrensong fusses over them again as if they were kits; Dawnpaw is berated by both her mentor and Cloudspring, with the threat of delaying her warrior ceremony as punishment for leading the young apprentices out into danger when she should know better by now.

Cloudspring befriends two strong kittypets from the nearby twolegplace. After assessing their survival skills, she suggests to Froststar and Sundapple to let them in the clan. New blood was always a good addition to the clan and it seemed as though issues between the former rogues and the clanborn have died down for now. While training, Lightpaw and Sparklily notice a noise in the bushes. Four kit's could be found, so Lightpaw was sent to look for the mother. The mother was found hunting in FrostClan territory, so Sparklily decided to bring her and her kits into camp.

Froststar grows sick. She spends most days in her den, weak and barely eating. Cloudspring and Sundapple fear that she would lose more lives soon. This forces the deputy to take on a bigger leadership role. With a bit of approval from Froststar, she welcomes the two kittypets into the clan as apprentices to trained by Perilstrike and Owlsnow. She hopes giving the former rouge an apprentice will finally bring peace to the clans troubles.

Though he is hesitant at first, Perilstrike shares his speculations about Sparrowlight having been involved with the murders of Stormfeather and Spiderflight to Cloudstar. Due to his death however, there is little action that can be done. Cloudstar instead advises him to just be a good deputy in the clan as she put a lot of faith in him and offered him the deputy position as an act of good will, finally getting rid of the bad blood between the former rogues and the clan born.

Now that the Clan has settled down and Sundapple is comfortable in her role as medicine cat, Daisyspeckle decided she'd like to be a mother. Having been a medicine cat, she knows her age might cause complications, but she is determined to have one litter before it is too late. Two moons into her pregnancy, she moves into the nursery. Chestnutpaw isn't acclimating to the Clan as well as he'd hoped. Despite being much older than the Clan-born apprentices, he's still no good at fighting or hunting. He goes to Cloudstar with his concerns, fearing he'd be kicked out of the Clan he's grown to love. She asks him if he'd like to be a nursery helper after explaining the duties that come with the role and Chestnutpaw accepts gratefully, with the caveat that he'd continue to train in combat so he can defend the queens if needed.

Weaselpaw and Foxpaw sneak out of camp at night, wanting to have fun like when they were younger with Dawnstream. However, they hear strange voices near their border. Though Weaselpaw was adamant they return to avoid getting in trouble, Foxpaw convinces his brother to investigate. They sneak by and find a scouting group of an enemy clan talking about how they would be trying to take over this part of the clan's territory soon. Shocked, the brothers try to run for it but they are discovered and chased. They manage to get away and back into camp but Foxpaw collapses from injuries soon after while a panicked Weaselpaw explains what happened.

Other than the group of rogues they'd found and chased away when they first came to the new territory, FrostClan didn't think they had any neighbors. With this new threat, Cloudstar decides to take a patrol to the border the next morning to see if they can figure out who exactly these new cats are. She takes Violetfrost, Lightningblaze, Weaselpaw, Owlsnow and Lightshower with her and hopes there will be less violence with her show of power. She commands Perilstrike to keep camp on high alert and designates Chestnutheart as their messenger.
