During the meeting at the halfmoon, Wolfstar asks if Houndclaw and his group were coming back to Fernclan. Houndclaw told him no, his group was settled in and liking their new territory more than their old.
After the meeting, Dustpaw comes up to Houndclaw and asks if their new group was a clan, and if it was were they called Houndclan. Houndclaw was left speechless and just shooed Dustpaw away. But he was left thinking that same thing to himself.

Moonflower has been seen with the symptoms of whitecough. Juniperpaw is worried for her, but Moonflower insists she think of it like an assessment. Moonflower has been quarantined in her den.
Viper, Oat, Grain and Branch are allowed to join Houndclaw's group. Symptoms of Whitecough have been seen in the group. Ravenpetal volunteers to be a medicine cat temporarily, and travels to Fernclan to meet with Moonflower.

Pikestar and Moonflower are quarantined in the medicine cat's den. Juniperpaw is overwhelmed with everything and sends a patrol to get catmint. Moonflower is trying to reassure Juniperpaw but none of her efforts are working, and some of Juniperpaw's stress is seeping into her.
Ravenpetal comes back to the group's camp with catmint, and he confines Branch to his den.

The whitecough is making Pikestar go deeper and deeper into insanity, muttering about how she gets a second chance with Wolfstride (She was refusing to say Wolfstar, saying that Wolfstride is what she is named) and that she doesn't get to use it by seeing her. Pikestar keeps trying to search for yew berries among the herbs or run out of the den to go see Wolfstar. Moonflower and Juniperpaw see this as troubling.
Houndstar announces that it is a clan, but it has no name as of yet. He says that he will be taking suggestions.

Moonflower is on the verge of death, and is desperately trying to teach Juniperpaw as much as she can. Pikestar's insanity has gotten worse and she managed to escape the den and get to Wolfstar. Juniperpaw is seriously considering putting Pikestar out of her misery. Wolfstar has been quarantined in his den.

When showed the deathberries, before Juniperheart was ready, Pikestar ate them. She had been looking foreward to it for a long time. Unfortunately for her, she only lost 1 life. This did cure her of White/greencough, though, and she immediately dashed to the leader's den, trying to get to Wolfstar.

Thankfully when Pikestar lost her life, she lost her greencough as well. Leaving the clan ride of the disease. Just when she died, Losttongue started kitting. She gave birth to two kits, Chervilkit, and Cloudkit.
Leechclaw went up to Houndclaw and suggested the name Houndclan for the clan, as Houndclaw was the founder. Houndclaw called a council of every cat to decide if they stuck with the name or chose a new one.

The clan hoped that losing a life would cure Pikestar's insanity. All it did was fuel it. Pikestar has been going around telling stories about her life to herself and bounding around camp randomly. She is great entertainment for the kits, but the rest of the clan doesn't think so.
Houndclaw and the rest of the group have been deep in thought. Sometimes someone would suggest a name, but it never felt right. Oat has been excelling at healing and was given the role as medicine cat.

This time, Pikestar struggled, saying she "had to find her kits, Wolfstride was worried", but they managed to feed her one dose after another of deathberries, each time she came back, until Pikestar was dead for good. Houndclaw was there when this happened, having decided he should be with her, as well as Wolfstar. They all came out with scratches. A new suggestion for Houndclaw's clan's name was made: Pikeclan.

Both clans mourned Pikestar heavily. Wolfstar was heartbroken. Juniperheart took the brunt of the grief, as she was the one who fed Pikestar the deathberries.
Houndclaw agreed with the name of the clan. When he went to get his nine lives, he saw Pikestar. Houndclaw apologized for what they did to her. "You saved me from so much more suffering in the future." She tells him. When Houndstar gets back, he appoints Ebonynose as deputy.
