Gorsefang, Smokeface, Houndclaw and Ebonypaw are sent on the dawn patrol. When they return many injuries can be seen on their pelts. They claim to have been ambushed by rogues. Smokeface seems to have taken the brunt of the attack.

Houndclaw approaches Chervilblaze and asks to talk with him and Pikestar. He confesses that he recognized one of the rogue's from when his patrol was ambushed. He says her name is Roxy and they used to be in the same group back when he lived in the city. The group started to become more violent and that's why he left, claiming that Crimsonglare and Wolfstride have no associations with the city group and that he met them in the forest after leaving.
He hypothesizes that the group must've left the city to take on the forest. Houndclaw asks for forgiveness for holding onto the information for so long.

While out training, Ravenpaw is the first to notice the approach of what sounded like rouges and warns the others(lostpaw, nightbriar, greywhisker, fennelcloud & sootfeather) in time for them all to hide among the underbrush or among the branches of nearby trees. the first rouge appeared in view, but something seemed off as she had claw marks on her grey and black pelt. as the hidden cats took in the she-cat's appearance, four more rouges came into view and it was lostpaw who reacted first upon realizing they were chasing the she-cat who seemed generally afraid. as soon as lostpaw had lunged from her hiding spot underneath a juniper berry bush, a skirmished happened between the four rouges an clan cats.
the rouges relunctantly retreated after soon realizing they were outnumbered, once they were gone the clan cats turned their attention to the last rouge who hadn't joined the fight. she explained her name was Dawn and she had fleed a group of violent rouges who didn't take kindly to deserters after a cat named Gravel has taken lead.
after a quick discussion they decided to escort her back to camp.

When the patrol brings Dawn back to camp, Chervilblaze questions her. She tells him that when Gravel became leader of the group he became violent and bent on taking over the forest, stopping at nothing to take it for himself.
Dawn also told him that Gravel was a large grey tom with light grey splotches. She also mentioned his closest friends, Copper a short furred light brown tom, Russet a black tom with red stripes, and Jackal a former kittypet with dark grey fur.

After a few sunrises, Dawn is still in the medicine cats den being treated for her wounds. Houndclaw visits her often, at first to ask about the rogue group, saying his sister was still part of the group before he left. Though, he continues to visit after Dawn confirms that she has not seen or heard of a black molly named Iris. Lilyheart has had to kick him out of the den multiple times for "taking up space".
Fennelcloud, Gorsefang, Smokeface, and Rookstorm begin to question Pikestar on what exactly the clan is going to do about the rogues, taking the opportunity to corner her anytime she leaves the nursery.

Moonpaw has been teaching Dawn about clan life whenever the she-cat wasn't resting and when lilyheart allowed her, dawn has shown some interest in what moonpaw has had to say, but hasn't voiced any interest in joining the clan to moonpaw or lilyheart.
Both Wolfstride, Chervilblaze and Nightbriar have taken to cutting off Fennelcloud, Gorsefang, Smokeface and Rookstorm from cornering pikestar. "the leader is also a queen now and stressing her like this could be bad for her kits since their still quite young." rookstorm and gorsefang bowed their heads in shame remembering their own kits, but backed off from questioning the leader whenever she left the nursery.
