mossecho Oh! Ok, I was confused for a while about it which is what took me so long to respond. XD Thank you! Her wedding was amazing. She was simply beautiful. We had a lot of fun, but I'm sad because she won't be living with us anymore since she's, you know, married.¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We are all really close, but we'll be splitting up soon to move on with our lives. I guess I'm starting to realize that in a few months I won't be seeing them every day anymore which is just so sad since they are some of my very best friends. Anyways, enough of my pity party. How are you? XD)

(@shootforthestars, congratulations to your roommate! Even though it's almost been a month! I'm also glad to hear your job's been well. Hope you've been doing good. I'm thriving for the Clari/Cas dynamic.. It's going to be so much fun to see. As for who would hold out the longest between Alex and Avanu, I agree with your assessment. While Avani is very patient, she's the oldest sibling and cousin. She has sixteen younger siblings/cousins combined. That patience wears out eventually when her younger family members argue. Ah thanks! Hey mossecho, how have you been? Also, who do you think will be more patient between Alex and Avani? As you've probably seen, Shoot and I think Alex, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Starchaser, Sorry for taking so long to respond. Anyway, thanks! I had a lot of fun with it. I also did some coding changes for Cris and Lys as well. Avani is so sweet and genuine, I just really love writing for her. I'm also excited to see how she interacts with everyone else. Also, I get it. There are times when I'll post something and wonder if I've left enough material for the other person/people to respond to. It can be difficult to tell sometimes. While I love darker stuff, I thought it'd be nice to write something lighter, so I'm glad you liked it. Also, I accept that headcanon (and your degree in mathematics). Unless you're a vegetable merchant, in which case your luck instantly goes down by -50%. That dragon represents Avani's inner person. In a group of serious and brooding people there's Avani. Oh I get that. It's not fun for the characters, but there is something fun about giving them tragic backstories. Avani was (as we've established) saves from this fare. Cris and Lys aren't so lucky. As for Caspian... Look, I wouldn't hesitate to throat punch him, but I would still give him a hug. No idea what that poor boy's been through, I just know it hasn't been good. It's not healthy for him to ignore his issues and I hope he comes to realize this. Though, as you mentioned, being around the prophecy crew should help. Definitely. Percy, for example, loves his friends too much. Caspian, on the other hand, doesn't care for his friends... Yet. Yeah, but repeats can be fun. While stockpiling more, I noticed I did a few repeats of ones you've already did. They were surprisingly similar. Lilah stealing the prophecy crew's clothes is still 11/10. And over half are tall, that being Caspian, Clarisse, and (of course) Avani. I think Alex's around average height, but I couldn't find anywhere Moss specifically talked about it. Then we have Lilah who is very short. At least Lilah is still taller than me. I though I was 5' for years (about five or six years) only to discover last month I'm actually 4'11''... Anyway! Avani's family made sure everyone knows how to cook. I don't think she's the best in her family, but she's still good. As for Lilah, I wouldn't sell her so short (pun intended). She might not be cooking traditionally, but magicing a meal together probably requires some amount of skill. Also, yes to their love language giving each other flowers. Yeah. She's a very positive person and a lot of the quotes don't work for her. But yeah, I think you've captured my characters well. I wanted Cris and Lys to have a very close platonic bond (mostly because I want to see more of those, especially between men and women) and I'm glad you like their dynamic. Gabriel and Azar are neat. Though they haven't been used much, I do find them fun to see.)

[[ hi all! sorry for vanishing for a bit. I have entered finals season... woop-de-do.
@shootforthestars: yeah, it is hard to see someone exit that chapter of your life together, you know? but I am happy that the wedding went well, and that it is clear that not only was she happy, but you were happy for her. you may not be seeing them every single day, but I am sure that your friendship is still hella strong, and they know how much you value their roles in your life <3
Amber: hi hi hi! I'm doing pretty good, despite finals (I think my brain is overcompensating for stress by just pretending that it doesn't have to think about essays, lol). as for who is more patient, Alex or Avani... I don't know. I think Avani? sure, I think her patience might lessen over time, but if it was a contest of who could continuously be patient, I think Avani could hold her own. Alex would be patient for a while and then break and lose it all, you know?
also I previously thought that Alex was pretty tall, but I agree that average height fits him well. let's just say that most people around him back home are pretty short. so he is tall back home, so he kinda has that tall person mentality, but that illusion is going to be shattered pretty soon. so he's going to want to be a tall king in the group, but really he's gonna be average height. maybe even a bit short for the prophecy group (and especially when next to Avani, but that's a given)

{ Hello, everyone! Sorry I haven't been saying much, but I hope everyone's doing well <3
Amber No worries! Life seems to have a way of always making people busy. I'm looking forward to seeing your other coding! Sorry in advance if I miss anything you said. Avani's a great character and a nice contrast to everyone else in the group. I'm excited for prophecy crew to interact more in general and see how their friendships develop. I have that problem a lot, mainly because I write so much and it mostly revolves around my characters/their inner monologue. Which I keep telling myself I won't do. Yeah, definitely. Too much darkness can make it feel less... I'm not sure of the exact word, but I know it can be a lot, so it's nice to get some balancing with Avani. It will be good to weave in some lighter moments now and then throughout the RP too.
I try not to give every character a tragic backstory, but I still think most everyone ends up with some kind of baggage. Probably around 10% of my characters don't have outright sad lives. Of my RP characters, I can't actually think of anyone who doesn't suffer this off the top of my head... Of my introduced characters, Azar is probably the best off and even he is dealing with a lot of issues.
Caspian is Going Through It. The [REDACTED] incident happened a little less than a year ago by the time he yeets off to join prophecy crew, so he's already dealing with a lot, even not taking into account his childhood problems. He doesn't have to be such a jerk to everyone, but that is the way he is choosing to cope. I'm looking forward to when Cas finally starts to open up to the rest of prophecy crew. Since his stone is the next one, it shouldn't be too long before it comes up since it will play a pretty big role in finding and activating his stone. I probably won't ever be able to delve completely into any of my characters' pasts and problems now that I think about it, just for the sake of keeping thing forum appropriate and because I don't want to bombard everyone with the darker aspects (not that it's all horrible and dark, but I'd rather be on the safe side with some things). But it's what comes after that will get more focus anyways. It's not so much that Caspian doesn't care for his friends, as he doesn't consider prophecy crew to be his friends yet. Cas has never been very good at getting close to people (what are ya gonna do when both your parents were mostly absent and you were always kept too busy to make friends during your formative years?), but he does care for certain people and it usually turns out badly for him (which will come up later on). He has a soft spot for very few people now and rarely lets himself get too close to anyone. Probably his last long-time friend is Fajra and their relationship is... complicated. He loves his parents too, but again, it's complicated. I personally find it nice to see other people had the same/similar quote ideas as me. It helps to know what others think of the characters and their dynamics so far.Try as she (and her family) might, Lilah cannot fully shake her feral side. She sees something and she wants and will steal it. Kind of like my cats that grew up as strays and would still try to eat out of garbage cans, despite having all the food they could want.
Anyways, I believe Moss said Alex was pretty tall compared to most people (Avani aside, in prophecy crew) at some point. I don't remember the exact page though, but I will go hunting for it [EDIT: it is page 23, a little lower down, past the half-way mark. Not sure if it ever came up before then though]. And I know what you mean. I also thought I was taller than I actually was for a while, and I already wasn't very tall. That is a very useful thing to know. As someone who enjoys cooking but isn't very good at it; I can make exactly one (1) good dish a year. Even if she's not the best in her family, I can definitely see her being the best in prophecy crew by a lot. Shifters don't strike me as the type to do a lot of cooking and vampires literally don't eat food, so it's not like Alex would ever need to learn. One of Caspian's Hidden Depths is that he actually likes to cook and is pretty good at it (learned from his Pa), but he doesn't have much of a chance to do it. That's true for a lot of Cas' hobbies growing up. Lilah on the other hand probably could have learned, but her childhood was, eh, kind of hectic so she didn't much get the chance. Magic already plays a pretty big role in Mage cooking and cuisine though. Alchemy is probably the magic type most involved with it. Mage society tends to encourage workaholism, so it's not uncommon for them to just use a nutritional potion instead of eating an actual meal and calling it good. I am also now determined to find flowers that fit everyone. I'm glad the quotes I did find work well for all of them. And, yeah, I get what you mean. I'm a sucker for romance, but it would be really nice to see more close platonic bonds with characters and have them be just as important as any romantic relationships. I'm happy you like Gabriel and Azar too, even if I haven't quite figured out what I want their relationship to be like. }

[[ Amber Starchaser @shootforthestars : it's finally here! sure, it's been nearly three months, but... better late than never? idk. hopefully the next one won't take this long, my sincerest apologies. hope you're all doing well!
I'll keep this one short. I honestly don't have a ton of ideas for Alex, so he's mostly going to just be doing his usual "let the others talk, disappear into the background" shtick. ]]
Alexander Rojas Lopez “Some people live more in twenty years than others do in eighty. It's not time that matters, it's the person.” - The Doctor (written by Mark Gatiss)
✩ ⤛ ☽ The Chosen Vampire ☾ ⤜ ✩ When the group had formed together, Alex could not bring himself to look at any of their faces.
Ha. Their faces. Splattered with blood and all sorts of unholy viscera. Deep under-eyes, sluggish movements. Erratic heartbeats just now starting to stabilize (barely).
Alex, for his part, must have looked like a wreck. He had avoided much of the fighting, yes (clinging to a building face, floors above the ground, will do that for you), but still. Perhaps his exhaustion signs were less symptomatic (his skin tone was the same, his heartbeat was just as absent as ever), but his behavior practically screamed "exhausted wreck." His steps were heavy, his shoulders relaxed beyond their usually half-perfect-posturing, and Alex's stare was so fixed. His chest did not heave for breath like the others, but any layman could spot the exhaustion clearly. Even his blinks, normally practiced and precise, were sluggish. Close, open. Close... open. Close... close... open.
The vampire locked his knees, forcing his posture straight. Shoulders back as far as they could be bothered to go, chin reasonably high (or just not slumped to his clavicle), gaze steady and not staring.
The others just kept... talking. Prattering on. Alex tried to focus on their speech, yes, but the exhaustion just hit him suddenly. The fight, the massacre, it had lasted all day. Normally, he would sleep that entire way. And now? He was running on perhaps a full night-day cycle without any sleep and with all the stress.
And yet through all that exhaustion, Alex's annoyances had room to blossom into mild (horrible) fury.
He could not stand the Heavenly, her voice too chipper and her responses too fast. Optimism, a very human dream. A human child's dream. The Elemental, his voice still harsh, piercingly so, and so damn demanding. You could hear the exclamation points in his speech. And the Mage... Alex did not want to think about her. He knew his fury was irrational, and one must never give a voice to the irrational.
It felt strange to acknowledge this truth, but it was very, very true: the only one Alex could marginally stand was the wolf. A shifter.
Ha, imagine if they heard you say that at home, Alexander. Truly, you would prove yourself incompetent. Imagine. Thinking a dog is better than anything, anyone. Even a child knows better.
"If I may, I imagine the inn would be the best option, if we wish to rest as effectively as possible. That said, there may be some security concerns. We do not know if this is simply one of many attacks to come. It may be best to leave while we can," Alex found himself saying.
Idiot. He spoke unplanned, unprompted. Immediately, he ran over what utter embarrassment of himself he had just made. "Rest as effectively as possible?" Dear goodness, Alexander. Only you could attempt to portray "rest" as a productive activity. Laziness does become you.
On a more pressing matter, there was the slight issue of the very real possibility that the woods would be even more dangerous. For one, they would need to cross the water, and that would take time and energy, two things no one seemed to have. Secondly, there was no guarantee that there were not monsters massing in the dark.
Monsters in the dark. Only the most cowardly of vampires could fear the dark, Alexander.
[[ well, now that is done... I'm off to read and then fall asleep on top of my book. laterz! ]]

{ i will post tonight and so now i have to because i said it}{ mossecho Amber Stonks. Well, here it finally is. Sorry about the wait!
Oh dear, these are very all over the place, but I am so tired and i have a headache. They're also pretty short (well, not Caspian's, I can never shut up when writing his perspective) and bad, also Caspian's is kind of two replies lumped together so that's why there's tangents but I'm not getting rid of it. I didn't have much to add that wasn't already in another post, so most of this is just walking and "this city sure is destroyed now" and "yeah, this is an inn," but at least they will get us to the next morning in-RP.
You can really see the parts where i just gave up, but i think maybe i can just write badly most of the time and just let it go, as a treat. If you see a part where I clearly forgot to add the rest of the sentence or a specific word, no you didn't.
Caspian will have his stone dream and tell the others the next morning, then Lilah will remember she conveniently knows a naval historian who specializes in pre-Cataclysm seafaring. Also his bookstore is right beside Lu's uncle's tea shop. Let me know if you guys want me to include the dream sequence so you have more to actually work with.
My characters are kind of... weirdly chill about their situation, but I can't write emotion right now so I'm chalking it up to exhaustion and prior emotional overload from the battle.
I'm not entirely certain of the specifics of how old inns were run, but I am mixing in modernity anyways. Unfortunately for prophecy crew, the generator gave us a "poor quality" inn.
The fact that the beyond beasts all just are gone in the span of a few minutes is a plot point, not a plot hole btw 💅 i am excited to cover it more in-depth later
All of my sentences: comma comma comma em-dash comma em-dash semi-colon parentheses comma comma comma comma semi-colon comma period
I could give Lucy Ellman a run for her money [ jk but also why am i like this ] }
Caspian Talis Drake “There are some things you can only learn in a storm.” - Joel Osteen
♦ « ☁ The Chosen Elemental ☁ » ♦
Thoroughly soaked to the bone (yes, even Elementals connected to water had their limit) and rapidly losing adrenaline in the battle's aftermath, Caspian was coming up empty on patience for this conversation. He didn't tend to consider himself prone to irritation, but what little forbearance he'd had after the battle had been quickly exhausted by a certain shifter's argument.
The group was already clueless as to their next steps in the greater scheme. Finding somewhere to stay was hardly a topic worth such lengthy deliberation. If they couldn't even reach a mutual agreement on something so simple, how could they ever expect to solve generations worth of problems?
Standing about all vulnerable in the street was also generally not a good idea, particularly for people who had only just recently been in imminent danger, and for those paying so little attention to their surroundings. Easy pickings for a monster.
The downpour had turned to a drizzle (which some among them seemed to consider of the utmost importance) and the beasts had fled as far as everyone knew, but they were still inviting trouble if it was around. He didn't know how everyone could talk so much and still say nothing.
"Ultimately, it depends whether your preference if for safety or security," Caspian said evenly, at last butting into the conversation. He was unwilling to let this round-about discussion go on the same way any longer. "Though, I doubt we'll be truly safe anywhere."
Not even in the heart of the Empire.
"If I may, I imagine the inn would be the best option, if we wish to rest as effectively as possible. That said, there may be some security concerns. We do not know if this is simply one of many attacks to come. It may be best to leave while we can."
It was the vampire who had spoken, rather unexpectedly. He had faded so effectively into the background that Caspian had almost forgotten he was there. Alex seemed content to remain silent throughout most of the trouble (maybe Caspian should have gone that route), yet now he was supplying suggestions. He made a good point though—maybe the only one even halfway close to being an outright decision—buried under cloying politeness as it was. Vampires sure did mince words.
As the elemental's gaze swept over his unsought companions, he knew they wouldn't be able to make it much farther. Bloody and bruised, with their eyes glazed and shoulders slumped. There were injuries too, nothing serious that Caspian could see—no bright red gushes that warned one's imminent demise—, but infection was always a concern and untreated wounds could take a turn for the worse. Everyone (well, almost everyone) was at the end of their rope.
Even Caspian was feeling the effects of the fight, a fact which caused him no small amount of irritation.
It was just one battle. He shouldn't have been so exhausted, so weak. A few beyond beasts was nothing he couldn't handle.
Ugh.
All that time on the Isle had made him soft.
Not for the first time in the past year, Caspian longed for the days of before, when he actually did anything worthwhile. His life was simple like that, divided into two neat categories: before and after.
The before was hazy and vague—enough so that he could fill it entirely with the exciting and interesting, the good. Something dark and foreboding hovering at the back of his mind always reminded him why he didn't want to think about the before. But After was new and now and fresh with possibility.
Caspian didn't dare to consider whether he was the same or not.
Realizing he'd let his silence go a bit too long, Caspian met the vampire's eye and a gave a curt nod. "An inn is probably for the best," he agreed. It would be nice to get out of the weather, and with an inn there would be no setting up camp, or assigning watches. There'd be easy access to food and shelter. Given the group's condition, he doubted if they could handle much more exertion.
"We aren't going to get very far like this," Caspian conceded, "and, given this prophecy business, I doubt that whatever else happens wont find us anyways."
He turned away from the group, eyeing their options out of the square. He had thought River Pass was confusing for those inexperienced with its layout, but Sanctum was a dizzying array of crisscrossed roads and dead-end alleys.
"I am unfamiliar with this city, but I passed a few inns on the way here." He gestured in the direction he'd first come from. Or, presumably come from.
Honestly, Caspian wasn't entirely sure the path he'd taken from his port of entry. He'd gone so far in such a short time, in a new place, much of it while fending off beyond beasts. Not that he was going to let the rest of the crew know that. He already had his work cut out for him with this bunch. No need to give them more reasons to doubt or debate him.
Besides, Cas was never truly lost; he was a great navigator. Any Elemental worth their keep could orient themselves with the earth.
He reached out for the Vis then, the faint shift of the invisible forces churned by magic. Following the tug, Caspian pointed himself in the direction of the Elemental's territory. He wasn't sure how to reach the port he'd come from anymore, but he knew it had to be south of their position.
Caspian didn't anticipate any objections as he set a brisk pace down the street; he didn't think anyone had the energy to object. And, well, if they did decide to quibble, he couldn't be held responsible for any harsh words.
The trek was slow-going, despite Caspian's attempt at haste. More than once the route became blocked by debris or other hazards and the group had to double back or cut through alternate roads. Caspian decided Sanctum wasn't worth the fuss people made over it.
Of course, he'd never seen the city before its destruction. Right about now, Sanctum looked more like a ghost town than the brilliant, shining metropolis he'd only heard about in traveler's tales. And all at once he was pensive over a memory he'd never even made.
Yet for all the damage, there was little to indicate what the city had been through. Just more than an hour after the attack and there was already an unnerving lack of life. Caspian had expected they might run into danger, but all was quiet.
The beyond beasts had vanished just as quickly as they first appeared. It was as if they were never there at all. How they could invade the center of the Empire without detection and escape just as easily was... unsettling. Made all the more so because there was no reasonable explanation. It, quite simply, wasn't possible.
Even other people were growing scarce, though members of the Guard—Caspian recognized their insignia: a scarlet and golden phoenix rising in front of the sun, its flaming wings spread majestically—still patrolled the streets, sometimes accompanied by medics or bedraggled survivors. Not but a few years ago, Caspian had entertained the idea of joining them.
Working all around the empire, in the capital city, even along the border had seemed more interesting than most of Caspian's other prospects. General Talis never would have heard any part of that though. The Phoenix Guard, in her own words, was not worth the armor on their back. Certainly not worth the sacrifices one had to make to join their ranks. Caspian didn't have a clue what that entailed, since he'd never pursued the option.
He'd held his tongue when he was younger, but seeing the guard in action now, Caspian wasn't sure he'd have taken an opposing stance anyways. After all, he didn't see any of them fighting off the beyond beasts or rescuing people. They only came to do damage control. He walked faster, avoiding contact with any of the gold-armoured soldiers.
Caspian didn't know what he would have made of their ragtag group huddled in the wreckage like a beaten-down sports team before their last stand, but he didn't want particularly care to get anyone's opinion. The last thing they needed was someone trying to stop and question them.
They'd gradually left downtown and ventured into the outer districts of the city, where the buildings changed from soaring edifices of stone and glass to unassuming wooden ones, some little more than shacks really. Caspian was beginning to think they'd have to head for the woods after all.
He paused. He'd almost missed it, a small, dilapidated wooden building tucked back between two larger ones. A wooden sign swung on a pole, the faded black words declaring: The Hearthside Inn.
It certainly wasn't much to look at. Not that anything in the area was.
The inn was its own brand of run-down though. Caspian had almost mistaken it for abandoned, with the shuttered windows and rotting façade. The paint was stained and peeling. The entire building seemed to be buckling under it's own weight. But it was the first place they'd come across that wasn't crawling with people or blaring "no vacancy" signs.
Sanctum was already packed full due to the Summit, but Caspian guessed the attack destroyed a lot of buildings as well, leaving multitudes to flock to the standing hotels for shelter. He could just faintly hear the lap of water in the distance. They were close to Sanctum's edge. This might be their last chance to find a place to sleep in the city.
Ascending the sagging wooden steps, Caspian pushed open the heavy wooden door, before he could change his mind.
Lilah Lancaster “For my part, I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.” - Vincent Van Gogh ⋆ ➼ ☽ The Chosen Mage ☾ ➼ ⋆ The Hearthside Inn, looked far less cozy than it sounded, but there were far worse places to sleep. Lilah was just grateful they could finally stop. They'd probably walked half the island's distance at this point, and the cobblestones had been determined to trip her up the entire way. The sights had been continuously grisly, but Lilah was finding that the reality was settling firmly in her chest like a cold, dark stone, though the development itself made her heart twinge.
Out of the rain, Lilah pulled her hood down as they entered the inn, a blast of warm air escaping into the night. A fireplace roared in one corner of the room, the air stuffy after the night's chill. Maybe they'd stand a chance at drying off now.
Despite the candle-lit lanterns scattered around the room, it was nearly as dim inside as the night beyond. The common room was occupied with rough-hewn wooden tables and chairs, each covered with a fine layer of grime.
The common room was nearly empty, save for two people sitting at a table in a corner, their heads bent close in conversation. Fae, judging by the pointed ears. They paused only to take stock of the newcomers, then resumed speaking, quieter now.
Lilah couldn't tell whether they had managed to escape the battle entirely or not. It had become clear as they walked through Sanctum that the entire city had been affected, but the outer districts were notably less so.
To the back of the room, a woman stood watching them through narrowed eyes. Seeing as they were tracking in mud and water, Lilah couldn't blame her. At least now they'd have a chance to wash the battle off.
Caspian observed the room with detachment, still managing to look unimpressed without any real emotion. After a moment, he said, "I'll take care of the accommodations. See if they have any room for us."
Lilah watched as the elemental marched purposefully towards the counter, shoulders squared as if preparing for a battle again. The innkeeper straightened, frowning at Caspian's approach as if she knew he was going to be a hassle.
Judging by the harsh words being exchanged, she was right. The innkeeper's scowl continued to deepen.
Please, Caspian, don't get us kicked out. Lilah sighed, leaning back against the wall and observing where the roof dipped and slanted. There was no way this inn met the building codes of Sanctum. Maybe they would be better off in the woods.
If this didn't work out, Lilah was liable to go curl up in a nice alley. She probably could have slept anywhere. Even standing up.
The creak of floorboards alerted her to Caspian's return. Lilah opened her eyes to see the dark-haired elemental looking triumphant as he walked towards the group. "Got the rooms. And at a discount, though I still don't believe the price is worth it." If he could feel the innkeeper's baleful gaze boring into his back, he didn't show it, nor did it dampen the pride in his voice.
"Apparently we got lucky. There are more guests here than usual, but it's not full." He went to work at passing keys on to the rest of the crew, voice low, "Obvious as to why they don't get much business, but I'm sure we can manage one night here. Apparently they have food too. Best of luck to any of you who try it. I'll be holding out for something better."
Caspian was already trudging towards the stairs as he added, "See you in the morning." His tone seemed genuinely cordial for probably the first time that night, though still at odds with his expression. "Early, I'd prefer. Don't want to spend to much time here."
Lilah turned over the key in her hands—a heavy skeleton key, probably brass given how many other metals were banned in Sanctum. The label read 207. Unbalanced. Uncertain. While that seemed fitting, it wasn't exactly the tone Lilah wanted to set for the rest of their quest, still full of unknowns. A predicator of fortune would have been nice, even if she didn't really believe it. Then, Lilah supposed she wasn't very lucky.
"My room's 207, if anyone needs something. Night."
For once, she didn't dwell on how little use anything she said was. Lilah didn't know what anyone would need her of all people for, but then again, maybe they'd have to make a quick escape. With beyond beasts in Sanctum and near-mythical curses coming true, who knew what else they'd have to deal with.
On any other night, Lilah would have offered protection wards on the doors at least, but there was no possibility of her casting anything at the moment. She was already sorely missing her magic. As it were, she could barely make it through the motions of her nightly routine, when sleep was such a close opportunity.
Lilah was used to sleep eluding her, but in that moment, a worn mattress and scratchy woolen blanket was more comfortable than anything else in the world.
Morning came too soon.
{ There are a few worldbuilding things I haven't covered yet, but I will eventually. Mainly, earth and fire elementals can work with magnetism a bit (i imagine having both helps; also, probably void). It's a bit tricky though, Caspian is just always putting others down. And numbers are significant in mage mythos/other stuff, I imagine at least partially owed to how they are important to spells, also something I need to work on.
Also my innkeeper npcs are shifters. The woman can shift into and "Veuxdelian" cobra (based on the Egyptian cobra, but there is no Egypt in this world) and her business partner can shift into a ringed wall gecko because I like them. He is not in this scene though. }

(Hey, I'm so sorry for disappearing. Life's been busy, but especially this week. I have a job interview Thursday (I did a phone interview yesterday), class has started again, I unfortunately lost a goat last night, I keep rewriting my reply because writers block sucks, and my sister just finished recovering from her second (and final) surgery). Like ugh it's a lot and I'm so sorry for my general lack of replies, activity, and communication.
Also, it's not great/a lot, but do you guys want me to go ahead and post what I currently have? I don't know why I've been struggling with writer's block for this reply. I had a lot of good material to work with it's just not coming I guess.)

{ No worries! Please do not feel bad at all. I'm probably about to be super inactive for a week or so [ was actually working on explaining it in the discussion ]. I'm really sorry everything in your life has been has been so busy and hard for you. I'm especially sorry for your loss. I know words don't do much to actually improve anything, but I really hope things get better for you soon, and you get the break you deserve <3
Totally understand about the writer's block, especially about rewriting and just still not liking what you've done. It always seems to happen when I'm the most excited about what I want to write, for some reason. I'm happy for you to post your reply if you want. Whatever you have, it will be good regardless of your inspiration. I just like reading what you guys have written and doing the roleplay. }

[ Commiting myslef to finally getting the next post up tonight.mossecho Amber And we're back! It only took me almost a year, but I finally did it. Oh dear, am I ever out of practice. Consistent characterization? I don't know her. I apologize for this being choppy and all over the place; it was pieced together over many months and I axed a lot of "connectors" for lack of better word, because I was tired of looking at it. Don't know why I didn't think to just start with the dream sequence in the first place, since the "before" scene is what gave me most of the trouble. Not my best work, but hopefully it's enough to help you guys with your own posts.
I decided to just have everyone else already up and meeting up by the time Caspian joins them because I thought it'd give you guys more of an opportunity to interact since this post doesn't have much workable content, but I can edit it if you need. I tried to leave it open as to how they were interacting. I can also add a Lilah post for more content since this only barely gets us to the morning, but it's up to y'all.
Also idk why I used so many em-dashes, so don't ask. ]
Caspian Talis Drake “There are some things you can only learn in a storm.” - Joel Osteen
♦ « ☁ The Chosen Elemental ☁ » ♦ The sea, raging tyrant though it could be, was a well-loved companion to Caspian. His elemental affinity had loamy inclinations, but he had quickly found a strong connection to water as well. So while it wasn't his strongest gift, it became his most favored. Enough that he willingly chose to spend most of his time out at sea even when other options had presented themselves.Years later, Caspian still couldn't say whether it was that the ocean called him or the land repelled him so.By that reasoning, Caspian supposed it only made sense that his mind would conjure such a place. He stood on a smooth, windswept beach, the sky a cloud-flecked gray, though faint rays of sunlight broke through the haze here and there. Behind him, the shore abruptly ran into dense jungle, brightly-colored flowers spilling out among the greenery. To the front, an seemingly-endless cerulean sea. How far it actually stretched into the swirling mists that clung to the horizon, if indeed it led anywhere, he did not know. The ocean was smooth as glass tonight, lapping only faintly at the shore, water rather than blood for once. An inclination of something more auspicious, perhaps. That the sky wasn't screaming of destruction and raining fire down seemed to indicate he was on the right track. Perhaps Caspian's ancestor could finally be swayed to tell him so.Speaking of, Caspian had a good idea about the identity of the shadow gradually looming towards him from the distance, seeming to morph into existence seamlessly from the fog. Their steps made no noise and left no mark in the sand, loose fabric drifting heedless of the wind. They may as well have not been part of their surroundings at all."Ishildr." Caspian inclined his head towards the figure, more apparation than flesh, even solid as they seemed. The elemental standing before him was the perfect visage of a warrior. Clad in shining silver armor accented by deep blue cloth, siyɛgsik hanging by her side, she looked battle-ready even in death. Dark hair was cut short, jagged as if done by her own blade. Her eyes were a deep, fathomless blue flecked with chips of ice. Certainly, her gaze would be cold enough to freeze, Caspian noted as it flickered over him.
Ishildr had rather quickly asserted herself as a "hands-off" sort, which—if Caspian was being honest with himself—was preferable. He didn't need centuries-old ghosts telling him what to do. What he did need, however, was the one thing his elemental ancestor seemed rather unwilling to offer: answers."If I did not know any better, I would think you intended to fail."Ah, the first words out of her mouth would be expressing disappointment. Had Caspian really expected anything else?"Really? You're lecturing me?" Caspian asked flatly. "I was under the impression that doing what you asked would make you more amenable.""I told you that you must find the others to fulfill the prophecy," Ishildr retorted as she paced towards him, eyes narrowing in displeasure. "That it was impossible to accomplish our goals alone and you would need to work together to do so. Apparently, you cannot understand the most simple of commands."Caspian took a deep breath, steeling himself against the inevitable argument this conversation would lead to. It would seem that even in his dreams trouble was unavoidable. "In case you didn't notice, I was doing just fine on my own. If it weren't for me, they may well not even be alive now," he pointed out coolly. "I would certainly be fine without help if only one Family could fulfill the prophecy alone, but unfortunately that's not the case."The elemental's frown only deepend, gaze critical as it swept across Caspian. Whatever she was looking for, Ishildr never seemed to find. "I tire of your quarellsome nature. It is no wonder you couldn't garner much cooperation with all your petty arguments."A pang of irritation flashed through Caspian, defensive anger always simmering just beneath the surface. I got summoned without choice to take up a mantle no one else has been able to handle, yet she treeats me like I'm the one at fault. They were both too stubborn for their conversation to go anywhere smoothly, and Caspian would be damned if he was the first one to back down. Well, sometimes you had to push a little to get what you wanted. It would only take a little spark.
"Oh, I'm the problem here? You're completely useless. All this talk of doom and world-ending consequences, but you insist on speaking through vague riddles," Caspian didn't bother to hide the sneer in his voice. "You know what I think?" the elemental asked, eyes gleaming in challenge. "You don't know what you're doing either. You have no clue how to fix your own mess. You just want someone else to blame for your failure when things go wrong."Wind and arcs of water had begun to swirl around the elemental, quickly solidifying into icy spikes. Whether it was simply that Vis was naturally drawn to obey her emotions, or it was a showy display to remind him of her power, Caspian wasn't sure.
"That could not be further from the truth and you know it," Ishildr snapped. The familiar spiteful urge to fire back with another riposte reared up, but he held his tongue. He had a feeling Ishildr would say more if he gave the chance. As expected, Ishildr was indeed the first to break the silence, all the tension leaving her with a sigh of resignation, the conjured storm settling as well. For a moment it transformed her from legendary warrior into the ghost she truly was—someone who carried a millenia worth of mistakes and dead-ends, the weight of the world's fate hanging ominously overhead, growing heavier with each passing moment.
"I," she sounded hesitant for the first time, almost thoughtful as she answered slowly, "do understand your frustrations." When Ishildr met his eye, however, she once again wore that mask of enviable, expressionless calm. "I wish I could speak with more clarity, but it is true that even I do not know exactly where your path will lead. There are a great many factors at play—most of which are not in my control. We are not the only ones with a hand in this."
Caspian's brow furrowed at the comment. He knew from what Ishildr had shared in previous dreams that he was not the only one, or even the first, to be chosen for the prophecy. Each Family had played a part in its creation and must fulfill their role in its end. But something in her tone made Caspian think that wasn't what she was referring to. He opened his mouth to seek clarification, but Ishildr waved him off before he could get a single word out.
"I cannot share everything with you yet. It would not serve our purpose well."Caspian scowled, "How could my knowing more possibly be a hindrance?""You still have a long way to go. Much to learn, as well." Ishildr must have noted the look on his face, quick to fill the silence before he could object again. "Rest assured, child, I have no intention of leading you astray. All will make sense in the end," she'd probably meant it to be encouraging, but the words came out more exasperated than anything else. And they were back to this. More evasive comments and deflected questions. But Caspian never got a chance to say his fill, interrupted by a brief shudder rippling through the air and earth alike. The dream's landscape seemed to twitch and unfocus before his eyes.
With a flick of her hand, Ishildr stepped away again, Vis churning through the air as mist enveloped her again. Now left alone, Caspian huffed at the unceremonious departure, but as much as he hated to admit it, he kind of admired the dramatic flair. Well, that was entirely unilluminating, he thought wearily. Caspian turned away, only to realize he wasn't on the beach at all anymore, but staring at an entirely different scene. The experience wasn't like observing a still image so much as being pulled into the reflection itself, living the memories of places he hadn't yet been. It was different than the rest of his dreams thus far—distant, almost hazy—but vivid nonetheless.
Snow stark against dark sand. The chill of ocean air against his skin, frost and salt stinging each breath. Wood creaked overhead, torn fabric and fraying, salt-encrusted ropes swaying in the wind. Carcass of a ship splintered across jagged stone. An intricately-carved figurehead of a fish-tailed horse, rearing above paint-chipped frothy waves, jeweled eyes still shining with defiant fury. The images shifted, searing through his mind at an ever-increasing speed, each carrying a story Caspian only saw the briefest moment of.
Deep beneath the waves where light could hardly pierce. A long-lost treasure scattered across the sea floor: a wide variety of coins, jewels, weapons, and artifacts Caspian could not hope to name. But only one item caught his interest. First glance, it didn't seem like much, barely noticeable among the rocky patches of coral. A small, glassy stone of deep blue and sea green, the center a bright fiery orange. Something stirred at the back of Caspian's mind, fingers prickling at the urge to reach out and take it.
Memories were falling away now, clinking one by one onto the ground, right down until the last one shattered with a definitive crack.♦ « ☁ » ♦ The last fuzzy vestiges of sleep were wearing off as Caspian's memory returned. He was still lying in the creaky, uncomfortable cot at The Hearthside Inn. With the knowledge from his dream still fresh in his mind, Caspian hauled himself out of bed, ignoring the distant aches carrying over from the previous night's battle. Normally bounce back faster than this.
Caspian had heard that influence of Cataclysmic magic could do strange things to people, though the elemental didn't think he was suffering badly from some curse-induced malady. He decided it would be fair to blame his not-quite-ideal state mostly on the accomodations.
As Caspian sought about rounding up the meager belongings he'd dared to unpack in such an... establishment, he found his thoughts wandering back to his dream. Unlike most others, which took a great effort to cling to the memory of, fate-given dreams stuck resolutely in his mind, down to the most sinister detail. In this case, it was a blessing. The imprint of the stone flared in his mind, insistent and tangible. Caspian could practically feel the power still thrumming in his hands.
The angel had found some fancy stone too, the one they were after last night. Whatever they actually were, presumably something more than mere rocks, they were clearly important. Avani hadn't mentioned what the thing did, but Caspian figured they wouldn't be sent on a treasure hunt for no reason. Though "tiny stone in the middle of some undefined ocean" wasn't the greatest hint in the world—in fact, it really wasn't one at all—Caspian refused to be deterred.
With all preparations in order, Caspian did a final cursory check of the room. Satisfied with what he found, the elemental stepped out into the hallway and began making his way towards the stairs perhaps a bit more hurriedly than was necessary.
The inn seemed more subdued than the previous night, Caspian noted, although that may have just been the time of day, or that everything surrounding the attack had felt so high-stakes. It was rather at odds with his own restless energy. Now that he had a concrete goal in mind, it seemed impossible to stay still.
Caspian briefly considered whether he should wake the others or not—they needed to go, but he wasn't keen to start any more arguments—but by the time his foot hit the bottom step, he spotted a familiar form hovering near the inn's door. Rounding the corner revealed the others clustered nearby, though he wasn't sure whether they were actively engaged in a conversation or not. Great, so I'm the last to arrive again, Caspian griamced. He could excuse it as being due to the necessary dream he'd received, but it didn't make him feel any better.
Striding over to the group, Caspian didn't was time with greetings, the sense of urgency his dream had left him with overriding whatever politeness he was willing to offer. "We need to talk." He was careful to keep his voice low, not wanting to garner attention from the innkeepers, though they seemed rather invested in their own quiet conversation. Waiting until the crew's attention was adequately focused on him, he continued with appropriate foreboding, "I had a vision."
[ post-post notes:
not the best way to end, but at least we made it there
Zamamish (Elemental language) terms/phrases: - siyɛgsik: a weapon similar to the war scythe
Ishildr did not turn out the way I intended at all, but it also doesn't quite feel wrong in the moment per se. Idk, I'll see how I feel later. Another tally for "Star should not dwell on one post for months because it inevitably ends badly from over-rewriting." Lesson learned again, but not retained.
Caspian's stone might change as well, but for context it's based somewhat on alexandrite and adamite, and a little dioptase.
Bonus because I'm on incorrect quotes nonsense again (if i accidentally posted some of these before, i am repentant):

Clarisse: Probably “road work ahead”. Alex: I speak many languages and this is none of them.
Alex: There is no future. there is no past. Do you see? Alex: If you had to choose between Caspian and all the money I have in my wallet, which would you choose? Clarisse: That depends, how much money are we taking about? Caspian: Clarisse! Alex: 63 cents. Clarisse: I'll take the money. Caspian: CLARISSE!!!
Caspian: I keep a picture of all of us in my wallet. Whenever I face difficulties, I take it out and stare at the picture. The Squad: Awwww- Caspian: And I tell myself "If I can deal with these idiots, then I can deal with anything." The Squad: Oh.
Zane: Ducks are better than rabbits. Avani: What? Rabbits are adorable. Have you ever been in a fight with a duck? Ducks are jerks. Clarisse: Duck is delicious! Rabbit is all gamey. Avani: We’re not talking about flavour, Clarisse! Clarisse: Flavour counts! Avani: Who carries around a duck’s foot for good luck? Anyone? Caspian: You wrap yourself in a comforter stuffed with rabbit hair. I’ll wrap myself in a comforter stuffed with duck feathers! Who’s cozier? Avani: Okay, but- Caspian: No, No, No, No. Who's cozier? Clarisse: Then why don’t we take a rabbit, a duck, stick 'em in a cardboard box, and let them fight it out! Avani: Because it's illegal, Clarisse! Clarisse: Only if we bet on it, Avani! Zane: I- Rafe-
Alex, walking into his house: Hello, people who do not live here. Lilah: Hey. Clarisse: Hi. Zane: Hello. Avani: Hey! Alex: I gave you the key to my place for emergencies only! Caspian: We were out of Doritos. [ BLO incorrect quotes lore, iykyk ]
Clarisse: Avani's first detention, I'm so proud. Zane: Whoa, back up. Why did she get detention? Caspian: Because she's an idiot. Lilah, terrified: They can do that??
Alex: You three, explain right now! Avani: It was Caspian. Clarisse: It was Caspian. Lilah: It was Caspian. Caspian: Caspian: … f***.
Avani: Hey Lilah, have you seen the photographer? Lilah: Nope. Have you seen the meat tenderizer? Avani, confused: What? Lilah, grabbing the meat tenderizer out of the drawer: No reason, cute girl things!
Avani: Caspian, you need to react when people cry! Caspian: I did. I rolled my eyes.
Clarisse: Where’s Lilah? Caspian: Doing stuff. Clarisse: I don’t like the sound of that. Where’s Alex? Caspian: Trying to stop Lilah from doing the stuff. Clarisse: And Avani? Caspian: Trying to stop Alex from stopping Lilah from doing the stuff. Clarisse: I see. And what are you doing here, Caspian? Caspian: I’m supposed to stop you from stopping Avani from stopping Alex from stopping Lilah from doing the stuff.
Anyone, to the Squad: I’d die for you. Alex: Then perish. Caspian: You will. Avani: Please don’t. Clarisse: Cool. Lilah: I’d die for you first.
Avani: How would you like your pancakes? Alex: Plain. Caspian: With sprinkles! Lilah: Chocolate chips. Clarisse: Potatoes. *Alex, Caspian, and Lilah look at Clarisse* Clarisse: What? They're good.
Clarisse: Being an adult is hard. Clarisse: How do I quit? Alex: Time travel. Lilah: Die.
Someone: Well, aren’t you all a rag-tag group of adventurers with unclear goals and good hearts! Oh, let me guess: you’re out to save the world! Alex: Well, actually, that sounds like a pretty fair assessment. Lilah: More or less, I guess... Clarisse: That sounds awesome! Let’s do that! Caspian: I’m new here, but I am open to the concept. Avani: I thought that’s what we were doing, guys, come on!
Zane: The floor is lava! Clarisse: *helps Avani onto the counter* Caspian: *kicks Alex off the sofa* Lilah: *lays on the floor* Zane: ... Are you okay? Lilah: No.
Avani: If you got arrested what would be the charges? Lys: Theft. Cris: Disturbing the peace. Clarisse: Aggravated assault. Caspian: Arson. Harley: All of the above. In that order, probably.
Caspian: I have the sharpest memory here - name one time I forgot something! Clarisse: You left me, Alex, and Avani in a Walmart parking lot at 2am a day ago. Caspian: I did that on purpose, try again.
Caspian: Christmas is cancelled. Alex: You cannot cancel a holiday. Caspian: Keep it up, Alex, and you'll lose New Year's too. Alex: What does that mean? Caspian: Zane, take New Year's away from Alex.
Caspian: Do you guys hear something? Clarisse: I hear the sound of you shutting the **** up.
*The squad's reaction to being told they're the chosen one* Avani: I will not let you down. Caspian: K. Clarisse: No, I'm ****ing not. Alex: Do I have to be? Lilah: Please gods, I am so tired.
Alex: Thank you for not saying "I told you so." Caspian: When you’re as right as I am, you don’t have to say it.
Lilah: I will beat all of you in Rock, Paper, Scissors. You go first. Clarisse: Rock. Lilah: Paper.
Alex: There is nothing worse than people using big words they do not understand. Caspian: I photosynthesize with this.
Alex, watching Clarisse and Caspian fight: Are you sure they should be fighting? What if they get hurt? Avani, not bothered by the chaos: It’s fine. They’re too evenly matched to hurt each other. Alex: Then... who is the strongest out of you three? Clarisse: Avani. Caspian: Avani. Avani: Me.
Caspian: I’m the smartest person in my friend group. Vampire Antagonist: You hang out with Clarisse, Avani, Lilah, and Alex. Vampire Antagonist: It’s not as high a compliment as you think.
Clarisse, to Zane: You know, Caspian can be really aggressive, so it's important to take all the necessary precautions when approaching. Clarisse: *Blows an air horn at Caspian* GET ****ED!
Caspian: They can't make me admit France exists, right? Legally, that's not allowed. Caspian: Sure, if France was REAL I'd say I liked it. Caspian: But who's to say. Azar: I think France isn't real. Gabriel: Azar, you've been to France. Azar: And???
Clarisse and Caspian: *making loud, shouty gorilla sounds at each other* Zane: Avani, exasperatedly: We have a guest.
Avani: Why does Caspian always do the laundry so loudly? Alex: So everyone knows that no one helps him out in the house. Caspian, in the distance: *slams the washing machine shut*
Caspian: *falls down the stairs* Avani: Are you okay? Alex: Stop falling down the stairs! Clarisse: How’d the ground taste?
Lilah: Wanna get out of here and grab a bite to eat. Caspian: I don’t usually eat with losers. Lilah: Neither do I but I asked you, didn’t I?
Avani: Hydrate or die-drate! Avani: *aggressively throws water bottles* Alex: Uh... what is up with her? Lilah: She's trying to yell mental health and wellbeing into us. Avani: I appreciate all of you! Caspian, crying: It's working.
Clarisse: Yes, I'm adopting Avani and you cowards can't tell me no!
Zane: What’s wrong? You look 10 seconds away from ripping someone’s throat out. Clarisse: ****ing Lilah and Caspian were trying to invoke one of the minor gods again last night. I didn't get an ounce of sleep, thanks to their bloody chanting.
Caspian: *raises eyebrows* Clarisse: Put those back down!
Clarisse: I’ve done a lot of dumb stuff. Alex: I witnessed the dumb stuff. Caspian: I recorded the dumb stuff. Lilah: I joined you in the dumb stuff. Avani: I tried to stop you from doing the dumb stuff!
Avani: Not to be corny, but sometimes I think my purpose on this earth is to love people, to make them laugh and share joy. That feels like enough to me sometimes. Clarisse: I'm here to maim and kill but your thing sounds nice too.
Alex: Are you laughing at that video of Clarisse and Lilah fighting? Caspian: No. Caspian: I'm laughing at the comments.
Avani, excitedly: Heeyy!! Clarisse: Hey, someone's excited. Caspian, deadpan: Yeah, and it's making me sick.
Caspian: So we're gathered here today for a very special reason and I think you'll all agree with me here. Caspian: And if you don't well then **** you. Caspian: I'm looking at you, Alex, you jealous mop
Caspian: You are a solid 11/10. Avani: Aw, thank- Caspian: Which is 1.1 because you look like ****.
Caspian: Punch me in the face. Clarisse: ... Punch you? Caspian: Yes, punch me, didn’t you hear me? Clarisse: I always hear "punch me in the face" while you’re speaking but it’s usually just subtext.
Alex: Yeah, I do not like people. Avani: Oh, well now that’s not fair Alex. Have you met all of them? Alex: I have met enough of them. People. What a bunch of bastards!
Caspian, after getting a job as a life guard: Hmm... I wonder what those things at the bottom of the pool are... Lilah: Those are people drowning!
Zane: When you work at lush and a customer comes in and bites the soap because they think it’s cheese... this happens way more frequently than you think. Clarisse: If you stopped literally presenting soap as deli food this wouldn't happen. Zane: Who goes into a bath store and thinks something covered in glitter is cheese? Alex: Who goes to the store and just takes a bite from the cheese?
Alex: We call that a traumatic experience. Alex, turning to Clarisse: Not a "bruh moment." Alex, turning to Caspian: Not "sadge." Alex, turning to Lilah: And definitely not an "oof LMAO."
Lilah: I think Clarisse is in trouble. Caspian: Alright. Struggling to give a ****, if I’m honest.
Avani: Guess what I'm about to get! Caspian: On my nerves.
Clarisse: Alright, listen up you little *****. Clarisse: Not you Avani. You’re an angel and we’re thrilled you’re here.
Alex: Caspian, I do not think I can handle any more of your tomfoolery. Caspian: Oh yeah? Well I can keep going until you’re all tomfoolered out!
Caspian: *coughs blood* Avani: Don't die, Caspian! Caspian: Don't tell me what to do!
Clarisse: *accidentally hits Alex in the face* Clarisse: *trying to decide between saying “I’m ******* sorry” and “are you okay?” Clarisse: ARE YOU ******* SORRY?!
Lilah: What makes you all smile? Avani: Friends and Family. Clarisse: Snacks. Caspian: Victory and success. Alex: Face muscles.
Cris: When will Ted himself... finally show up to the talk? Lys: The final boss. Lilah: You guys know TEDtalks stands for technology, entertainment, and design talks, right? Cris: I will not let Ted hide behind these lies any longer!
Alex: Clarisse, I am questioning your sanity... Caspian: I never questioned it, I knew her sanity was missing from the start.
Clarisse: Start talking! Lilah: Well, I- Clarisse: Shut up!
Alex: I am at a loss for words! Lilah, telling Clarisse later: Despite being lost for words, Alex yelled at me for the next 45 minutes.
Lilah: Hello my darling friends guess who just got ✨INJURED✨ Alex: Obviously I hope you are okay, but I want you to know that that was the most in-character text you have ever sent.
Alex: The odds of this happening by coincidence are vanishingly small. Lilah: I would say infinitesimally. Clarisse: And I'd say teenily-weenily. We all know words.
Avani & Lu: *accidentally set the kitchen on fire* Avani: We need an adult! Lu: Avani, you are an adult! Avani: We need an adultier adult! Get Alex!
*Comments under an image of a really hot knife cutting bread* Clarisse: Imagine stabbing someone with this knife. Alex: It would instantly cauterize the wound, so the person would not bleed, so it is not very useful. Caspian: if you want information it is Avani: why would you STAB a person when you can have TOAST?
Clarisse: I asked Zane out. Caspian: Oh, I’m sorry. Clarisse: Why? Caspian: Well, I assume he said no. Clarisse: No, he said yes. Caspian: Really? Then I’m sorry for him.
Clarrisse: Wasn't icarly that guy that girlbossed too close to the sun because he was down for Apollo? Lilah: ICARUS?
Caspian: Bet you can’t eat 15 crayons! Lilah: Bet you I can! Alex: *sips coffee, checks to make sure 911 is still on speed dial, and goes back to reading the paper*
Caspian: All in all, a 100% successful trip. Avani: But we lost Clarisse. Caspian: All in all, a 100% successful trip!
Caspian: Fellas, I gotta know for science. Is the opposite of red green or blue? Alex: Technically a mix of green and blue? Caspian: So blurple. Alex: That is implying you are mixing blue and purple. Caspian: Would you rather have ****ing bleen? MOTHER****ING GRUE? Alex: You were confusing before but now I am scared.
Alex and Lilah
Alex: Do you need help getting up? Lilah: Nah, I'm cool down here on the floor.
Lilah: Okay, two person huddle. Alex: You cannot huddle with two people. This is just a hug.
Alex: At first, I thought you were foolish and incompetent. Lilah: My apologies for whatever misstep I may have taken to dispel that impression. It was an honest mistake, I swear.
Lilah: What’s up? I’m back. Alex: I literally saw you die. You died. You were dead Lilah: Death is a social construct.
Lilah: *dangling from a rope over a pit of fire* Remember when I said I’d tell you when we’re in too deep? Alex: Yes? Lilah: We’re in too deep.
Lilah: *Pulls a glass of water from out of nowhere* Alex: Where did you get that? Lilah: My pocket. Alex: How do you keep a glass of water in your pocket? Lilah: Skills.
Alex: Fight me! Lilah, standing behind him and holding a knife: *mouths* Do not.
Lilah: Rules were made to be broken! Alex: Yeah, well, bodies were not!
Alex, texting: You will machete through this. Alex: *make it Alex: Do not machete your way through this. Lilah: too late
Alex: Do you wish you were seeing somebody? Lilah: A therapist.
Alex: *upset over a breakup* Lilah: Alex, I promise you, you'll love again soon. Time will heal a broken heart Lilah: *picks up a rock* But not their window *throws it and breaks the house window*
Alex: Tomorrow is garbage day. Lilah: I can't believe they made a whole day dedicated to me.
Alex: You are an idiot. Lilah: That’s the charm.
Alex: You know, not every problem can be solved with a sword. Lilah: That's why I carry two swords.
Alex: Man, I only ever see you awake, do you ever shut down or stop running? Lilah: Oh, I’m always running Lilah: The question is from what
Alex: What is your biggest weakness? Lilah: I can be uncooperative. Alex: Okay, can you give me an example? Lilah: No.
Alex: Sorry it took me so long to bail you out of jail. Lilah: No it’s my fault, I shouldn’t’ve used my one phone call to prank call the police
Lilah: I can explain. Alex: Can you? Lilah: If you give me thirty seconds to think of a lie.
Alex
Alex: Quitting! It is like trying, but easier.
Alex: So apparently the "bad vibes" I have been feeling are actually severe psychological distress.
Avani
Avani: Theater kids are just choir kids who joined forces with the band and strings kids.
Avani, on a random band name generator: Oooo! They Might Be Depressed Horses! That about sums up my friend group.
Avani: *signs a legal document with a glitter gel pen*
Avani: My toxic trait is that I'm convinced that if I ever saw a wolf or bear in the forest, I could get it to be my friend.
Avani, texting: Don't worry, I have your phone! Text me when you're gonna come get it!
Clarisse
Clarisse: I'm a firm believer in "if you're going to fail, you might as well fail spectacularly."
Clarisse, dumping out a shopping bag full of Lunchables onto the table: Tonight, we feast.
Clarisse: Is "ugh" an emotion? Cause I feel it all the time
Clarisse: I would never say that my partner is a ***** and I don’t don’t like them. That’s not true… My partner is a ***** and I like them so much!
Clarisse, tearing up the room: Where are they? Clarisse, looking under a pillow: Who moved them? Who moved my children? Clarisse: Somebody moved my M&M's, and now I am going to start killing.
Clarisse: Thanks for pulling the fire alarm, you saved me from giving an oral report about The Scarlet Web. Redis: You were too lazy to read the book?! Clarisse: I was too lazy to watch the movie.
Caspian
Caspian: I have yet to encounter a problem where a sword didn't factor into the solution at least in some way.
Caspian: We both look very handsome tonight. His date: You know, if you'd just said that I looked handsome, I would have said, "So do you." Caspian: I couldn't take that chance.
Caspian: If I'm really as bad as you say I am, then have the gods strike me down where I stand. *Lightning strikes Caspian* Caspian: Ha! Nice try, jack***! Next time, give it your A-game!
Caspian: Hi! It looks like you don't know what the **** you're talking about and should probably take a godd***** seat. Would you like some help with that?
Caspian: Editor's note: What the ****?
Caspian: Sorry I called you an idiot I was trying to flirt
Caspian: It takes a very special kind of idiot to pull off what you just did
Caspian: Clownery. Tomfoolery. Absolute ****ery, I am going to revoke your life privileges.
Caspian: Hey, quick question. How petty am I allowed to be?
Lilah
Gabriel: Do you take constructive criticism? Lilah: Not without crying
Lilah: The next time I open up to someone, it'll be my autopsy.
Lilah: ... This is one of those moments where it doesn't really matter what I have to say, isn't it?
Lilah: When people say my name I'm like... "Can't believe I exist."
Lilah: Hi, do you take walk-ins? The Morgue: What?
Lilah: When your cat lays on you and does the big Huffy sigh... is your life so hard little dude? I would die for you
Lilah, writing an email: ... I hope this email doesn't find you. Lilah: Gods help you if this email finds you.
Lilah: What can therapy do for me that screaming in my car for 30 minutes can’t?
Harley, Al, Maddox, Lilah (+ some others)
Maddox: Do you think different paints have different tastes? Harley: They do. Al: ... Why did you say that with such certainty? Al: Don't quote me on this, but I believe murder is illegal! Harley: Al! My face is on fire! Al: Harley! Are you ok?! Harley: Oh yes, I'm fine. I just said that to make sure you'd come in here quickly. Al: But your face is on fire. Harley: Yes. It's much faster than shaving. Harley: *Kicks the door down looking panicked* Maddox: What did you do? Harley: Nobody died. Maddox: WHAT KIND OF ANSWER IS THAT?! Al: I prevented a murder today. Harley: Really? How’d you do that? Al: self control. Al: Maddox, we're hungry! Harley: Maddox! What's for dinner? Lilah: We're hungry, Maddox! Maddox, frying a bottle of ketchup over the stove: *screams* Harley: Valentines Day? I'm ready. *Sprays an entire can of AXE body spray on himself* Lilah: I have seen a lot of murders in my time, and all six of them were today. Harley: I haven't slept in seventy-three hours. Al: Eighty. Democratically elected leader of insomnia. Lilah: It's been ninety for me. I'm going for an even one hundred. Maddox: You guys are ****ing terrifying. Harley: *kicks “G” off Graveyard sign* Harley: Let’s get this party started Harley: I have no respect for Santa. Don’t sneak in through the chimney and undermine my authority by bringing my family presents. Walk in through the front door and fight me like a man. Harley: In case you haven’t noticed, I’m weird. I’m a weirdo. I don’t “fit in” and I don’t WANT to fit in. Have you ever seen me without this stupid hat on? That’s weird. Harley: *Slowly pushes a cannon into a 17th century bank* Okay everyone, be cool. This is a robbery. Harley: Honestly, I am so evil. So full of darkness. I feed of the souls of the living I strike fear into- Al: You sleep with a teddy bear. Harley: He’s my sECOND IN COMMAND IN MY ARMY OF DARKNESS! Lilah: Why aren't there friend pick up lines? Pick up lines to make friends like- Lilah, to Lys: Hey, that's a cute outfit. You know where it would look better? On nobody else, because you're a beautiful individual. Harley, to Cris: Be my friend or I'll set your entire family on fire. Al: There are two types of people. Al: What is love? Lilah: An emotional minefield. Maddox: A neurochemical reaction. Harley: Baby don't hurt me. Harley: Why does my arm shake and turn bright red when I’m eating dirt? Al: Al: Why are you eating dirt? Harley: Did I ask you if I should eat dirt? No, so answer my question. Harley: I WOULD DESTROY THE WORLD FOR YOU! His partner: Okay, can you do the dishes? Harley: No! Al, texting Maddox: Roses are red, Tony Hawk is a skater… Maddox′s phone, auto-replying: I’m driving right now–I’ll get back to you later. *Later* Maddox, texting back: **** you. Lilah: Did you have to stab them? Harley: You weren’t there. You didn’t hear what they said to me. Lilah: What did they say? Harley: "What are you going to do, stab me?" Lilah: That’s fair. Al: Okay, what does A stand for? Lilah: Arson. Al: Aw, you're so good. Okay! B! What does B stand for? Lilah: Barson. Harley: *laughter* Al: What stands for C? Lilah: Commit arson. Harley: Oooo. Al: D! Lilah: Don't come near me, I'm going to commit arson. Harley: *more laughter* Al: I raised you real well. [ if you don't know the reference, here it is, because i feel the emotions of the voices are important ] Maddox: Why is it that I always lose things as soon as I need them? Al: Actually, it's not that you lose things when you need them. You lose them a while before. It's just that you LOOK for things when you need them. Maddox: Okay, yeah, thanks Al, that's great, but WHERE'S THE ****ING FIRST AID KIT? Harley: The best way to gain someone's undying loyalty is by saving them from a perilous situation. Maddox: So you're just gonna wait until someone is in danger and save them? Harley: Of course not, I'm going to create a situation that puts them in danger and then save them. Maddox: ... Maddox: You're insane. Maddox: I’m not a doctor I’m a medic. Al: What’s the difference then? Maddox: Well doctors actually save lives, medics just make you feel more comfortable as you die. Al: Note to self: never get shot. Cris and Lys
Lys: So I’m the only one around here who can clean up, huh? You can't even lift a finger? Cris: Do I get to pick the finger?
Lys: Did you buy eggs like I asked? Cris: Even better! Lys: What the **** did you- Cris: *holding up a chicken* Her name is Fluffy.
Cris, texting Lys: Lys there’s a moth on the outside of the bathroom door can you get rid of it? Cris: Pls hurry because I’m going to cry Cris: Lys Cris: Lys Lys: Lys is dead. You’re next. Love, Moth.
*out grocery shopping* Cris: *takes a free sample twice* Cris: Robbery and Fraud. I am a Rebel.
Lys: Would you like your pizza cut into six or eight slices, Cris? Cris: Oh just six, I don’t think I could eat eight.
Lys: Hi, I'm Cris' emergency contact. Counter Woman: You're here to pick him up? Lys: I'm here to remove myself as his emergency contact.
Cris: Look, let’s just agree to say “I’m sorry” on the count of three Cris: One, two, three Cris: Lys: Cris: See, now I’m just disappointed in both of us
Cris: *dials 911* Cris: hey i hate to be “that guy” but i glued myself to the ceiling again
Lys: I found a note in one of my old word .docs that said Note to self: Get revenge on Cris. Lys: Except I couldn't remember what I was supposed to get revenge for. Lys: But I trusted my own judgment, so I went with it. Cris: Hmm... I don't know what you were supposed to get revenge for, either. Lys: I can only assume you got what was coming to you. Not 100 percent sure, though. Cris: Well, whatever I did, I guess I deserved it. Lys: Let that possibly be a lesson to you.
Cris: your honor I was just being a little silly
Cris: *walking around disappointed after visiting an aquarium* Lys: Cris, what did you think a tiger shark was?
Cris: You know what I’ve realized? Lys: Some thoughts are better left unsaid? Cris: Nice try, anyways-
Gabriel and Azar
Random #1: Azar Rathorul... How do I begin to explain Azar? Random #2: Azar is flawless. Random #3: I hear his hair's insured for $10,000. Random #4: I hear he does car commercials... in Sanctum. Random #5: One time he punched me in the face... it was awesome.
Azar: Gabriel, what does IDK, ILY, and TTYL mean? Gabriel: I don’t know, I love you, talk to you later. Azar: Alright, I love you too, I'll ask Lilah. Gabriel: Wait- Azar, no-
Azar: Gabriel is playing hard to get. Azar: Little does he know, I'm a master at playing hard to get rid of.
Azar: I'm usually that person who has no idea what's going on.
Gabriel: The good always die young. Azar: Phew, good thing that I am so incredibly awful.
Gabriel: Um... Excuse me, there's a fly in my soup? Azar: So sorry about that... Azar, after dropping a spider into Gabriel's soup: That should take care of it!
Azar: "I lost a bet." Azar: The second-most ominous phrase in existence. Gabriel: What's the first? Azar: "Let's make a bet."
Azar: Gabriel, you're my best friend. Gabriel: Best friend? Best friend?! *****, I'm your only friend. Gabriel: I'm the only one capable tolerating your dumb ***!
Azar: You know what I’ve realized? Gabriel: Some thoughts are better left unsaid? Azar: Nice try, anyways-
Gabriel: Could you be any more annoying? Azar: Yes.

Starchaser Amber mossecho Ok wow. It's been too long and Clarisse is all rusty and I'm all rusty, but this was so much fun to write. It's not my favorite thing, but I'm so happy to be back in this world again. I miss our characters. the next few response will have most interaction between characters for sure, I just needed to get Clarisse settled. How are y'all?! Also, my favorite incorrect quote because they never fail to make me giggle: Alex: If you had to choose between Caspian and all the money I have in my wallet, which would you choose? Clarisse: That depends, how much money are we taking about? Caspian: Clarisse! Alex: 63 cents. Clarisse: I'll take the money. Caspian: CLARISSE!!!
Clarisse Alinsky “The sun watches what I do, but the moon knows all my secrets.” - J M Wonderland
✶ ⤐ ☾The Chosen Werewolf ☾⬷ ✶
Clarisse slept like the dead.
She had barely looked at the room when they split off, barely had time to send a prayer of thanks to Rafe before her head hit the feather soft pillow and she was out like a light.
When she finally awoke, the soft rays of dawn were peeking through the window, forcing her eyes to peel open with the soft coo of morning. The werewolf laid in bed for what seemed like a lifetime before she was able to pull herself into a sitting position.
Clarisse sighed and rubbed at her eyes. They ached and burned with the familiar sensation of sleep deprivation. It couldn't have been more than a few hours since she had stumbled into the room and collapsed on the scratchy bed sheets. Cursing her body's natural cycle of rising with the sun, she turned her attention to the window.
Rafe, I feel like ****. Every bone, every joint throbbed; she cracked her neck with a groan of surprise. Even her fingers - grimy and still covered in dried mud - were stiff with disuse. I must not have moved at all last night.
Even though sleep caressed her, wrapped its arms around her shoulders and tried to coax her back beneath the sheets, Clarisse slid off the bed and hobbled to the door. Mind too hazy to understand her state of attire, she wondered through the hallways until she found the common area again and approached the desk.
The innkeeper looked her up and down, face scrunched at the filth, "Can I help you?"
Accent thick with distaste, she sounded the least bit thrilled to be interacting with the shifter.
"Yeah, do you have a wash house?" Clarisse rubbed at her eyes again as she yawned.
The innkeeper denied an answer in favor for a jab of her thumb to the door behind her. Clarisse muttered a 'thanks' and entered the room to find a small pool full of water. Heated by the look of the steam and somehow powered by the wards surrounding the pool, she thanked Rafe before climbing in and scrubbing the dirt off her skin.
She sat in the heated pool for quite sometime, listening to the birds as they chirped outside the open air windows. The heat leeched into her bones and softened her aching joints as she let her mind wonder to the streams and rivers of her homeland. This pool, foreign to her and artificial, was the opposite of everything she had known for her whole life. Even in the dead of winter, the pack would wash in the pond near the camps.
Clarisse closed her eyes at the sudden home sickness that washed over her and sunk below the warm water line. No. She had finally left. She was finally seeing the world. She couldn't start thinking like that now. She stayed submerged until her lungs ached and the longing for home fled like the pain in her body.
Besides, she was in too deep now. Turning tail would have consequences. Not only for her, but for the world.
Drying off and redressing, Clarisse left the bath house and made a beeline for the counter once more.
"Do you have food?" She asked pointedly, not bothering with the pleasantries.
The innkeeper's lips pulled back in a snarl, eyes flashing in that way that mages eyes did, "For a price, shifter."
Clarisse smoothed her now wet hair out of her face and leaned in closer. The innkeeper's tongue clicked at the way the water dripped onto the counter, "I don't have any money. We spent our funds for your lodgings. I'm a good worker though. I'll work for breakfast for my group. There are five of us."
It was the way of her people: if you didn't have money, you worked for your keep. Granted, it had only happened once or twice to her due to her packs status and the fact that many times they could hunt for their meals. Here though, in the middle of the city, she doubted that she could find somewhere to hunt without running into an issue. Sanctum housed too many prey species shifters for a hunt to be safe.
The innkeeper's face screwed up in momentary disdain at the comment before softening into something cunning. Her eyes narrowed as she chuckled, "Yea' al'right. Come here." She motioned for Clarisse to lean in.
Intrigued, Clarisse tilted her head down as the innkeeper stated her request.
"I want you to..."
Clarisse's eyebrows jumped before her face settled into a groan. If she had been in Rafe's embrace, she would have whimpered, "Really? Is there nothing else?"
The innkeeper chortled and shook her head, "Nope. You do that for me and I'll have breakfast ready in thirty minutes."
The gnawing in her stomach forced her to shake the mage's hand.
As Clarisse left to go comply with the request, she had only wished that she had waited to bathe.
---
The food tasted like chalk, but it filled her hungry belly. She ripped apart the eggs and toast with ravenous teeth, watching as the seats before her remained empty.
She was the first to arrive for breakfast even though the elemental had said something about being early for a briefing. The other residents came and went, some eyeing her food and grumbling that they hadn't been served a meal. Clarisse resisted the urge to growl and pull the food closer to her every time the patrons of the establishment circled her table like hawks looking for scraps.
Vultures, all of them. I earned this meal. Rafe, I earned this meal and then some. She shivered and tried to push away the horrid request from her mind.
The others started to trickle in just as she was beginning to foam at the mouth for the other food (she had to stay strong and save some for the others) with the last one to arrive being the elemental. His seat was still empty.
Clarisse ran a hand through her partially dry hair as she conversed with Avani and watched the others eat.
"Oh Avani, it was terrible. The smell, I swear to Rafe, was enough to make me puke, honest - "
The creak of the floorboards and the smell of sea salt made her look up. The elemental - Caspian - approached them swiftly, eyes low and jaw taunt.
Clarisse sat back in her chair and muttered under her breath, "Took you long enough."
If he heard, he gave no indication of it, instead opting to go straight into the thing that seemed to plague his mind.
"We need to talk. I had a vision."
Oh? Clarisse swept her gaze over his face, nose twitching with the way his scent shifted from confidence to quivering trepidation. It was gone as soon as it came, replaced by that easy poise she noticed from him yesterday.
A hush came over the table.
"Ok." Clarisse said inexpressively and reached for the last piece of bread and handed it to him. "Are you going to tell us... or are we going to have to guess?"

[ @shootforthestars Welcome back! I feel the same way with my characters and writing, but honestly, your post still made me very happy and put me in a writing mood again. Missed you and glad to hear from you; hope you have been doing well <3
Amber mossecho I have another post partially written, but I was going to let everyone else get a response in before then because I think that shorter, more conversational replies will work better here, and be easier to get things rolling with. I understand I didn't include a whole lot to work with in my last repsonse though, so I can post again if you guys want.
Also. I am so deep down a worldbuilding spiral. I have a lot of general lore I've been saving up and waiting to unveil, but also just... random tidbits that will never really make an impact on the roleplay, but I still find fun. I'm talking recipes, book excerpts, course catalogues, scientific studies, the works. Mostly in the form of scribbled, incoherent notes, but maybe I'll write it out nice and fancy someday. I might make it a goal to get something up every week or two, since I'm trying to write more this year. Just for my own entertainment, but all the better if anyone else gets something out of it too. I've been needing to revamp a lot of the lore for a while anyways. I actually have a bit on most of the Families, but none of it has to be "canon" unless you like the ideas. I don't want to be overbearing, I just have a lot of thoughts. ]

I'm glad! I haven't written her in so long that I was struggling to get back into her mind. I understand being put in a writing mood. I saw your post and it made me so happy I just had to come back! I'm down for shorter replies as well. I think it would make things move faster for sure. Also, your world building is never a burden. At least not in my mind. I love hearing everyones thoughts on this world that we've made together! It's so much fun hearing ideas and seeing things really flesh out!)
