Even more death. Moonlight died and Violetshine is weaning her kits at the moment. They are named Leaf, Squirrel and Moon. The Sisters probably left after the kits were strong enough.

The manga takes place when Squirrelflight and Leafpool were apprentices having their first training session.

Naw! I'm just really sad now. Sparkpelt is still showing grief and has no interest in the kits at the moment because of this. Stormcloud is trying to get her to eat and with encouragement from both Squirrelflight and Stormcloud, Sparkpelt is now playing with her kits. Stormcloud <3, he was not only Squirrelflight apprentice but lost someone very dear to him as well, good choice of cat to encourage.

Aw! Tree has two sisters and a brother. Also, Crowfeather was shown grieving at the Gathering after Leafpool's death.

Got the book early. Figured I'd throw in my two cents. If anyone has any questions about the book, lemme know, I'm more than happy to answer. Overall Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. It had a lot of really good moments - be they sad, happy, cute, or funny. Worst part is easily any time Bramble and Squirrel are on screen together. They fight so much and it's kind of hard to stomach. They try to make Brambs sympathetic but it doesn't really work because he's just that much of an ass. I do like the ending and the way they make up though. I thought their reunion was very cute.
If I had to give this book a rating it'd be like 3.5/5. Worth a read IMO. Characters: Bramblestar - Really bad. Comes across as a huge donkey for 350 pages and is hard to empathize with. Worst part of the book.
Squirrelflight - Alright. I liked her POV quite a bit. Honestly idk if I feel anything else about her. She was just fine.
Leafpool - Fine. If you were upset she didn't get closure in LS or you're a mega Leafpool fan, don't worry. She gets a perfectly proper sendoff here. Lots of closure too.
Jayfeather - Not as bad as he was in LS but still kind of a butt here. Didn't really like the way he reacted to Leafpool's death.
Spark and Lark - Very cute. And sad. Some of the best moments in the book.
Hollytuft and Flippaw - UNSUNG HEROES. They were so so cute here!! Adorable mentor/apprentice pair. And of course I was knocked over speechless that Hollytuft of all people was an actual character in this book.
Tree - Liked him the most here compared to any other Tree book I've read. Honestly this book made me really excited for his upcoming novella. I hope it's good.
Breezepelt - There was a line about him in this book that made me laugh out loud. It was funny to watch Squirrel dunk on him.
Tigerstar - Ughhh he's almost as bad as Bramblestar here. Didn't like him at all.
The Sisters - Found them and their group dynamics really interesting. Honestly a really cool "alternative" clan with different customs and traditions. I also liked that they resembled "real" cat colonies more than the Clans do. StarClan: The StarClan POV stuff was really interesting. In this book, it's revealed how StarClan judges the living. It's interesting to watch, albeit confusing how hard they grill Leafpool and Squirrelflight. Was anyone else this scrutinized?!?!?!?! Like Ashfur ?!?!?!? Speaking of Ashfur... I was surprised to see how little screentime he got here. I was expecting him and Squirrel to have a big confrontation but... he doesn't say a word. He's also acting surprisingly docile. Wasn't expecting that.
I also found it strange how much StarClan brought up the Warrior Code, and how strict they were acting. Honestly, it made me very doubtful that Ashfur is the "big bad" of the new arc. Could be intentionally misleading, but I dunno... I'm a lot more unsure than I was like, a week ago.
The other StarClan stuff was cool. It was nice to see some of the Old Guard again.

Leafpaw, Squirrelpaw, Dustpelt, Cinderpelt, and Brambleclaw all show up in the manga. Squirrel+Dust are on a dual patrol with Leaf+Cinder. It's their first day out as apprentices. Brambleclaw shows up to tease them. Hijinks ensue.

There's no mention of it. Sorrelstripe doesn't even talk in this book. Stormcloud is around the nursery, but he's only ever mentioned to be hanging around Sparkpelt, and not Sorrelstripe, so I doubt it's him. No real hints to anyone else either.

This book just has me wondering even more as to why Bramblestar and Squirrelflight are still together. After I read the preview the first time around, I actually fully expected for them to be in conflict with each other and for Bramblestar to realize his mistake after Squirrelflight goes into a coma; I just wasn't expecting for it to be this bad. I'm not even that surprised by it, but I'm not any less annoyed either.
And not only that, but Squirrelflight has been deputy for awhile, so you'd think they'd learn to work together by now.

A few things... I dislike all of the Bramble and Squirrel arguing, going behind each other's backs, and all that. But I do like in the end they did realize their faults, made up and still loved one another. It's not a perfect relationship but it works and I like that. However, their behavior can be perceived as toxic because it was causing stress for Sparkpelt.
I still don't care for Spark x Lark, however, their moments were pretty sad. That's one hell of a way to go if you ask me, but I do sympathize with Sparkpelt more tbh. I feel bad that she lost her mate and kits simultaneously, and all the stress didn't help. And then losing her mother and aunt not long after...oof. She's definitely depressed, poor thing, but at least Squirrlflight came back. I also love the name Flickerkit.
ShadowClan and Tigerstar are friggen awful. They new the Sisters would leave once Moonlight has the kits, and yet still attacked them knowing full well there was a pregnant she-cat. Kits were put in danger because of their hideous actions. Tigerstar doesn't deserve to be leader.
It was nice seeing Leaf and Squirrel go to StarClan and see how it works. It's awkward to see Ashfur and Holly being so casual though...suspicious. But this might blow holes in the theory that Ashfur is the one in Bramblestar's body. On the other hand, I was happy to see Firestar and Cinderpelt again. The whole judging thing was interesting but I don't think they picked the best cats for that. It kinda hurt to see Leafpool wanted to stay, she probably felt like she belonged, it was time for her to relax. But Squirrelfight had to get back, Sparkpelt needed her, and so did the rest of the clan. It was touching but also very tragic.
This book is shaping up to probably being one of the best written SE's tbh.

I agree that Tigerstar was really unreasonable, and a huge jerk, but tbh RiverClan was too. They were both threatening war over territory they weren't even using at the moment. It was really sad, especially since they new the sisters were (for the most part) peaceful and perfectly willing to move on their own if they were given time. I'm glad everything worked out for SkyClan because I really like their new territory and that nobody is fighting over the stupid borders anymore. It's just really terrible that someone had to lose a life for them to move in there.

Ashfur hid his true nature from the Clans for an entire arc. Why are all of the StarClan cats (including HOLLYLEAF) so persuaded by his apology? Like, he didn't even directly say he was sorry to Squirrelflight during the Great Battle or in this book... hm.

Because he's always been a jerk though? He just didn't have the power status.
-He used Ivypaw to get herbs from TC and betrayed Dove's trust -When Dove moved on he was nosey about her business and constantly stares at her -He was an utter dirtbag to Dove while he was temporarily staying in TC -He only convinced Scorch and Juniper to stay for his own gain of sneaking off himself -Although partly Dove's fault, he did abandon his clan to chase after his illegal mate
He didn't deserve to be deputy, and didn't deserve to be leader. The only significant things he's done since leadership is attack SkyClan despite them helping them in their time of need. Being down right aggressive with other clans unnecessarily. And now causing kits to be put in danger and both Moonlight and Leafpool paid with their lives. Moonlight's kits won't have a mother now growing up and the Sisters no longer have a leader. I don't count the time he threatened a medicine cat because of the circumstances, but that was still a thing.

I liked him because of how he defended Flametail when Ivypool was about to double kill him, but now, I really don't know. I agree that he doesn't deserve to be deputy. He doesn't have any experience. He trained in the Dark Forest, and took someone as a mate from outside the clan. I know that's not really that important, because everyone has done it at this point. Anyway, I think there could have been better options, Tawnypelt for one. And that's about it, the rest of ShadowClan sucked at this point. I wish they wouldn't have killed off Crowfrost, he was great, he had compassion, but he also knew how to call someone out.
