Edlyn turned as she heard Danir exclaim something in Elvish and found herself in the elf's arms. She froze for a moment, a smile quickly forming on her features as she hugged him. She rested her chin on his shoulder, the man muttering about his worries. It was a relief to see he was okay. She could remember him comforting her as she laid wounded and bleeding in the clearing. Orvin and the hunting party were getting close as she lost consciousness. Edlyn could almost imagine what would become of Danir and his brothers if they had been captured by the intense man. She nearly shuddered at the thought, though stopped herself to enjoy the comfort of being close to her friend.
"Ah, it seems I was missed," Edlyn lightly teased, her voice just a whisper. It was both sweet and a bit heart-wrenching to hear his concern. Edlyn eventually pulled away from Danir, offering a smile as she took note of the rest of clearing. It was small, but a good place to camp for a night. Danir's brothers--who had began to stir--had clustered together. Though they weren't far from the others, there was a clear separation between Edlyn and Danir and the older three. She glanced back at the elf, noticing the dust that clung to his clothes and the distribed tufts of grass. Had Danir really slept on the dirt and used a log as a pillow? Edlyn looked at him and smiled again, finding herself curious about what happened after she passed out.
"I'm glad to see you're okay," she hummed. "How long was I out for? It's must've been a while judging by your reaction. Also, where are we? The forest is...different here." Edlyn studied it again. The trees looked bigger, their trunks wider than what she was used to. They seemed taller with leaves and bark that seemed slightly off color. The other bits of foliage and flora she could see from the clearing were in a similar condition. Wherever they had ended up, it was no longer the woods she was used to.

Danir With // Where Danir held her him his embrace for as long as she left him. It had been a hard three days on him, wondering if she was going to make it and worrying about if he had choosen the right thing to do. Would she have wanted the choice he had made for her? Or would she had preferred for him to leave her with her own kind?
He was pulled from those thoughts as Edlyn backed away from him. "You've been out for a while," he answered. "Three days. I tried to make you as comfortable as I could, and made sure you ate a bit of broth, but I couldn't really do much else." He purposefully ignored the question about where they were, still unsure how she would react to the that information. "Are you hungry, or thirsty? I can get you something if you'd like."

Leaning forward to sit on her knees, Edlyn listened as Danir briefly explained what happened. Her eyes widened as he revealed how long she was out. "Curses! I've been unconscious for three days? How much did I miss? Well, probably not a lot judging by what you told me." Edlyn paused for a moment, racking her brain for any memories in the clearing. She could faintly remember Brysen stumbling upon them after the warg had been killed. She was also fairly sure Orvin's group were close to the clearing, though she had passed out before she could find out what happened. "You managed to escape the hunting party. I assume they haven't been tracking us, or at least aren't near? I'm sure if they have, you wouldn't be nearly as relaxed. Or, maybe you're on the verge of panic and just really good at hiding it. Or, maybe you're bad at hiding it and using magic to disguise that fact. Or perhaps..."
Edlyn trailed off, blushing lightly as she realized she was rambling. "Er, I'm sure that's not all that important right now. Anyway, I'm thirsty, so if it's not too much of an issue, could yet get me some water?" It probably wasn't a good idea to start eating anyway. After being out of it for three days, she wasn't sure if she could stomach solid food just yet. Though Danir had also mentioned broth, it didn't sound all that apatizing at the moment. As he moved to get her water, Edlyn took another look at the surronding area again. Only then did she realize he didn't mentioned where they were. He had ignored her question completely.
Edlyn nearly repeated the question, but stopped herself. Why wouldn't Danir answer suxh a simple question? Surely he must have a good reason?
Right?
Gritting her teeth, Edlyn pushed budding doubts from her mind. She had no reason not to trust Danir. He risked his life--and that of his brothers--to help her when the warg attacked. He defended her when the three of them had dragged her into the forest in the middle of the night a week before. He cared for her in the three days she was unconscious, even if she didn't know the extent of what he did. Though she deserved answers, Edlyn trusted Danir had his reasons to avoid the question. The blacksmith looked at her friend and smiled lightly, saying something different instead.
"What happened to my sword?" she asked instead. She hadn't seen it around and the idea of being weaponless was unappealing. The forest had.proven to be a dangerous place, especially now that strange creatures from the elven side had been seen. Even with four others who could fight, Edlyn was sure half of them wouldn't hesitate to abandon her if things grew too dangerous.

Danir
Danir couldn't help but give a small laugh. "No, you haven't missed much. Mostly I have just been carrying you for the journey. And when I'm not, we've been at camp. As for the being followed, no, we were not. We've placed spells to hide our tracks, at least for the first day and a half. After that, there's no point. Humans never travel this far into the forest."
"Of course, I'll go get you some," The elf said, but even before he could move to get up, he spotted Baltore already on his way over, canteen in hand.
"Glad to see you finally awake," Baltore greeted with a smile. He held out the canteen for the woman. "Drink as much as you like, but do it slowly. No sense in getting water logged right after you've come to. Tell me, do you have any pain anywhere?"
Danir allowed her to take a drink before he continued to answer her questions. "Your sword was the last thing on my mind at the moment. I'm sorry, but I didn't grab it. But it might be for the best. You won't be seen as too much of a threat this way," he answered. He knew he would have to explain himself, but he was more nervous than anything.

He'd been carrying her? But of course he had, she saw no horses. How else would she had been moved around while unconscious? Being dragged, perhaps? Edlyn doubted that would've happened, especially not if Danir had anything to say about it. After all, he carried her on and off for three days, single handedly. Was he not sore or uncomfortable after lugging her around during that time? Edlyn smiled fondly for a moment, wondering what she did to deserve such a friend. Danir continued on, explaining that it was nearly impossible for the group to be tracked. Edlyn briefly frowned at his explanation. What did he mean humans didn't travel this far into the forest? How far in were they? The blacksmith didn't have a chance to ask as she became distracted by her thirst.
Danir barely moved when his oldest brother, Baltore, approched the pair with a canteen. Edlyn returned the smile as she took the container and undid the lid. "I'm glad to be awake," Edlyn agreed as she took a sip. The other elf warned her about drinking too much too quickly, rehashing a lecture she heard before from her own brother. She made no comment on the matter, however, and nodded along with his advice. If Corwin was anyone to go by, she would recieve an even longer lecture if she complained or dismissed his words.
"I don't feel any pain, but that could change when I start getting up and moving around. I'll let you know if I feel anything." Edlyn took another sip of water, eyes drawn to Danir as he answered her question about her sword. Edlyn sighed and let her shoulders fall for a moment.
"That's disappointing to hear, but I guess you have a point. It is good to be viewed as a non-threat, and I'm sure having a weapon on me would give some opportunists an excuse to attack." She glanced at the twins before returning her gaze back to Danir. "I just hope someone picked it up at least. I worked too hard on that sword for it to sit out, forgotten in the woods, rusting." Not only was it a fine piece, she had made it specifically for her use. It took meticulous planning, precise measurements, and the right material to create a weapon that was the perfect length and balance for herself. Edlyn, of course, had other swords she could use and like just as much or even more than the one left behind. However, it would take months to replace it, assuming it wasn't picked up and currently being held for her return.
Edlyn took another sip of water, noting the strangeness of the section of woods again. It was unnatural. Unnatural in the sense of what she was used to. The woman had a suspicion of where they were, but still needed confirmation. "So where exactly are we?" Edlyn asked again. Danir had dodged the question earlier, but with his brother here, perhaps he'd be more likely to answer. Or maybe Baltore would just answer for him.

Danir
"Good," Baltore said with a small nod. "I'm not a master Healer, but you shouldn't have anything to fear from bleeding out. You may experience some soreness when you start moving about, and if it's too bad, let me know. We have tonics that can help that. Other than that, do you think you could eat a little?"
Danir let her finish her conversation with Baltore before moving on with the other topics. "Yeah, I would want it to be found too," he agreed. If they weren't so far away from the place she dropped it, he would have gone back to get it. But he knew that wouldn't be allowed. Still, had felt bad leaving her prized blade behind and potentially being lost to whatever search party that would come by to find Edlyn. "I'm sorry I didn't think to grab it."
And then she went back to the subject he was dreading. "Uh, well, we're..." the elf started, taking in a deep breath. If she was going to be mad no matter how he said it, so might as well just get it out there. "We're a day away from our city, Theosari."

(And it's been two years since we began this thing, so that's cool! Sorry for not asking first, but I used the coding you had to finally make my replies look just as nice, and I'm happy with how it turned out. I was also bored, so I did some (a lot?) of world building for this and would be more than happy to share it if you're interested. And kinda tying in with the last thing, I had an idea about why the elves were driven out centuries ago if you're interested in hearing that. Also, sorry for throwing a lot of things out at once, but I also drew a couple of continents because I was bored and like drawing maps, so tell me which one you like and I can flesh it out. Continent 1 Continent 2 Continent 3 As a side note(added like a week later), the area at the top seprated by the mountains is one country, the area directly under it is Kaiden, and the two at the bottom are also two different countries. I'll probably flesh them all out later.) Edlyn With Danir//In the Woods Though she didn't remember specifics, Edlyn racked her brain on what food was best for someone who had been out for a few days. She was sure her brother had mentioned it before, but he also liked to talk. A lot. "Alright. As for food, I think I can stomach something small and light; some bread, maybe a small piece of fruit, nuts would also be fine." The suggestions at least seemed reasonably familiar, and though Baltore said he wasn't a master healer, she trusted he would know what to get if she was wrong.
Her attention was drawn to Danir as they talked about her missing weapon. "It's fine, you don't need to worry about it. I have other swords, and I can't complain about losing my sword over losing my life." She glanced at Baltore, who appeared to be distracted, before looking back at Danir. Edlyn hesitated for a moment before putting a hand on his. "Thank you for that, by the way. For helping save my life, I mean. I would've died if it weren't for you, Danir, and I hope to repay you for that someday." She shot him a small smile, then pulled away before taking another sip of water. After a moment, she asked about their location again.
As soon as she repeated the question, Edlyn noticed a change in Danir's demeanor. It was quite obviously a topic he was uncomfortable with, which only served to further confirm her suspicions. Still, she needed him to confirm it for her, hear it from him to know for sure.
"We're a day away from our city, Theosari," he eventually said.
Though she had suspected they were in elven territory, the news still made her pause. Edlyn blinked a few times as she stared at the elf. How would everyone take it? Would people see them taking her as an act of aggression? Would they assume they were looking to start something with the humans, Edlyn being their first victim? How would her family--
Her family. Edlyn hadn't even considered that angle yet, and not just how they would react. She needed to tell them--or at least Danir and Baltore--the truth, but even that thought gave her pause. What would Danir think if he knew? Edlyn drew in a slightly breath. She had to worry about one thing at a time, and right now, that was talking with Danir.
"Oh."
Edlyn shifted uncomfortably as she considered her words. "I understand," she eventually managed. "Lingering by Kaiden would've been too dangerous, even with the measures you put in place. It's not like staying in the forest was a great option either while I was unconscious and still healing. I don't know if bringing me here was the best idea, but I'm not sure what other options there were." She offered him a comforting smile as guilt tugged at her. The longer she kept the secret, the worse the truth would be when she told it.
Arlana and Corwin With//Where It was funny. In one breath, magic and enchanted artifacts were denounced; their power was said to only be used by heathens and elves. In the next breath, those resources would be put to use and praised for their effectiveness. One such artifact was, of course, the simple communication boards often used by Kaiden officials. Only a few existed in the kingdom and it was one such artifact that had brought news of Edlyn's disappearance. Though they had tried to keep it quiet, it was diffcult to keep news of someone kidnapped by elves a secret. It was even more diffcult when that someone was the niece of the queen and cousin to the heir to the throne. They had received the message a few evenings prior, the news coming as a shock to the whole family.
The queen decided to deliberate with her advisors about what to do with the situation. That would take some time; time that could be spent searching for the young blacksmith and rescuing her from an enemy. It was why Arlana and Corwin were in Willow Creek, the small village Edlyn called home. Though neither had visited the town before, they had heard it was welcoming, friendly, and warm--a nice place to rest for a few days. So far, they had expierenced none of that. Instead, they were greeted with a frightened, nervous people; people who were on edge after the events a few days prior.
Boots crunched aganist the ground as Arlana led her horse to the side pasture. Though the beast was too smart for her own good, Arlana trusted her enough to listen. Corwin followed behind with his own steed, silent as he glanced at the too quiet house. Edlyn's mounts were being kept by one of the locals, something the pair found out after asking about the blacksmith around town. Once the animals were secure, Arlana led the way to the porch and studied the building. It was untouched, left alone until her family could look over it while figuring out how to save her. After a cursory look through the front window, Arlana entered into the house.
Little dust had accumulated within the home, though the pair didn't notice any signs of people coming through recently or things moved. Arlana made quick work expecting the from of the house, which wasn't diffcult. The kitchen, breakfast nook, and sitting room was really one wide, open space. The only thing telling them apart was the furniture in the appropriate spaces. Turning her attention to the hall, she already found Corwin inspecting the bathroom. Arlana frowned. He didn't even bother to tell her what he was going to do, heading straight for it. Of course, he was neither cautious or a soldier.
"Bathroom's all clear," he informed as he closed the door behind him.
"I figured. Now, go ahead and inspect the room on the right while I search Edlyn's room." The man nodded wordlessly before turning to begin his task. Arlana followed behind, looking for anything else out of place. Arlana pressed her ear aganist the door, carefully listening for any signs of movement. Behind her, she could hear the other door creak open as Corwin made his way in. "You can as least try to be cautious," She grumbled.
"Bah! Be cautious of what? With everyone on alert, I doubt the elves would be dumb enough to saunter into a missing woman's house. There's no one in here but us anyway." Arlana let out a long-suffering sigh before heading into Edlyn's room. Corwin was right, the two were alone in the house. But that wasn't the point, the younger man needed to be more cautious, especially if they were going into enemy territory soon.

(Nah, you're good! do whatever you want to do with it! That's so cool! I'm sorry that the story progress as been so slow, but I like that we've been keeping it moving for so long. Of course, I would love to hear your ideas on the world building and history side of things! I think it's hightime we developed that out some more as well, so I welcome all ideas you have eagerly. Ooooooo, I like map #3 the best. Don't know why, but I do. XD) Danir
Baltore nodded his agreement to her suggestions of food. Fruit and nuts would be best. He would have suggested broth first, but since she was already showing that her strength had recovered this much, he felt as if she could handle the items in question. So he excused himself to go get them, leaving his youngest brother to explain the situation further.
Danir shook his head at her mention of repaying him. "Edlyn, you saved my life first. If there was anyone who owed a life debt, it was me to you," he told her. "As far as I am concerned, the debts have been paid, and it is one I would gladly pay again if, dead gods forbid, there's ever another situation like this. I do not think I would ever not help you if you were in trouble." His words were sincere, and if surprised even himself at just how much they rang true. In such a short amount of time, the blacksmith had become a close friend to him, one he was better for knowing, regardless of what his brothers might say.
As he came clean with their destination, Danir felt his dread weigh heavily in his stomach. She was mad, he knewjust knew it. And if not mad, then she wasn't please by the news. The young elf dipped his head, guilt slowly rising. "I'm sorry, Edlyn, I didn't know what else to do," he murmured. Sure, she said it was fine, but how could it be? He had taken her away from her home, without her consent, into a land where she could easily be killed on the spot. It was a selfish decision on his part, and he wasn't sure how to fix it. "I couldn't leave you behind, and my brothers wouldn't have stayed to ensure you had recovered properly. I couldn't have lived with myself knowing I just left while you were unnconcious, not knowing if you would live or die. But I know that I might have made it worse, on all of us. For that, I'm truly sorry, but I promise that I will do everything in my power to make sure you are safe. You have my word."

(Okay! While things are moving somewhat slowly, we are progressing, which is fun. It is kinds exciting to see where the story goes. Alright, because it's a lot, I'm make these ideas a separate post. And yay for map 3. Drawing the coastlines were quite fun. I'll probably add some important locations, bodies of water, and the like soon. Also, I'm sick(probably covid unfortunately), but I think this came out decently enough.) Edlyn With Danir//In the Woods The conviction in Danir's voice surprised Edlyn. She watched him with a small smile as he explained she didn't owe him anything. "Alright, we can call it even then. I saved your life, and you saved mine. Neither of us would change a thing and I think we can both agree we would do it again in a heartbeat." Edlyn, of course, would still find a way to repay him. Danir stayed by her side as she was bleeding out, even after being hunted by people who were ready to kill him. He also carried her through the forest for three days, what sounded like single-handedly with little rest. It was a miracle he wasn't sore or generally in pain, unless, of course, he was hiding it. And if he was hiding it, she would have words for him later.
As the topic moved onto their location, Edlyn noticed a shift in her friend. His ears tilted down slightly, his shoulders slumped, and his head dipped down somewhat. The blacksmith listened quietly as he apologized, his guilt appearent. Edlyn frowned as he spoke. He shouldn't be so hard on himself. "You don't have to apologize. You did nothing wrong, Danir. You made a choice in a stressful situation with very little time to properly think it over. Would I have liked a choice in the matter? Of course. However, I wasn't exactly in a position to make that choice. I trust you, and if you thought this was the best choice at the time, then it was the best choice. I also trust your word. We'll make it out okay, and you don't have to feel so guilty." Edlyn offered him a comforting smile. She wasn't sure if her words got through to him, but she hoped it was at least a start. He shouldn't beat himself up over making what he thought was the best decision at the time.
Now that she knew where they were, Edlyn found herself curious to fine out more. "So what's The...Theos....Th-The-oh-sar-ee?" She could feel her face redden some as she slightly scowled, repeating--more like butchering--the name of the city. Danir had said it far more elegantly, though it wasn't surprising considering elvish was his mother tongue. Recollecting herself, Edlyn drew in a breath and grinned at him. "So what's the city like?"
Arlana With Corwin//At Edlyn's House There was nothing out of the ordinary in Edlyn's room. It was neater than back home, but still held signs that it was hers. No flat surface was left uncluttered, there were some clothes on the floor she was too lazy to take care of, and the bed was an unmade heap. Arlana smiled thoughtfully before turning to her attention to the dresser. When they found the younger woman, she was probably going to need fresh clothes. Arlana shifted through Edlyn's drawers, pulling out enough clothing for two outfits.
"Jasan's light!" Corwin exclaimed from the other room. "Arlana, you'll want to come see this!" Stopping her task, Arlana headed to the room across the narrow hallway. Whatever Corwin needed, it sounded urgent. She paused in the doorway to study the room, finding a few things that stood out. For someplace that was supposedly so unused, there wasn't much dust on the furnishings or in the air. In fact, it seemed well cared for, which was odd. Edlyn rarely cleaned up spaces she didn't use. The bed had clear signs of recent use and if she took a look at the cup on the nightstand, Arlana was sure she find water in it. She finally looked at her brother and saw he was holding
"I found this by the bed." There was an unusual edge to his tone, though Arlana understood why. The bag he was holding was not of human origin. Wordlessly, she took it from him and looked it over. After studying it, she handed it back to her brother. It was clear what that meant.
"She had an elf staying with her," Arlana said firmly. With the situation now far more concerning than they initially thought, Arlana returned to her sister's room. They would have to leave immediately.

I was thinking about why the humans chased out the elves, and I have an idea for it. What if the elves killed the king at the time, so his heir had the elves chased into the forest and created the laws which prohibited helping them under threat of death? And maybe, for whatever reasons, tensions were rising between humans and elves, so a rogue elven group(potentially led by one/a few of the council members) were the ones who excuted this plan without warning? Gods There are twelve major gods people worship. Each god is believed to watch over and protect all people, especially the people they represent. It's rumored they may visit people sometimes. Calender The year begins in the the spring (the equivalent of March) and ends in the winter (the equivalent of Feburary). Because I was bored, I made a calender. Below the spoiler is the code for said calender, so after going to the website, just put the code into the last tab labeled save/restore. {"year_len":366,"events":1,"n_months":12,"months":["Thar","Jas","Sev","Mar","Tas","Ans","Ers","Ves","Nav","Sen","Kae","Gren"],"month_len":{"Thar":31,"Jas":30,"Sev":30,"Mar":30,"Tas":31,"Ans":31,"Ers":30,"Ves":31,"Nav":30,"Sen":31,"Kae":30,"Gren":31},"week_len":7,"weekdays":["Marday","Tasday","Vesday","Tharday","Erslday","Sevday","Senday"],"n_moons":1,"moons":[],"lunar_cyc":{"0":13},"lunar_shf":{"0":0},"year":1466,"first_day":4,"notes":{}}
The current year is 1491 and it's the Year of the Farmer. Each year follows a twelve year cycle that represents each of the gods and specific people. The hour, day, month, and year someone is born is considered somewhat important and may play a part in things like omen-reading. If all those correspond to one god, then the child is considered blessed. Year of the Hunter (Tharson)
Year of the Healer (Jasen)
Year of the Travler (Sevbyn)
Year of the Sailor (Maren)
Year of the Craftsman (Tasad)
Year of the Soldier (Ansger)
Year of the Artist (Erslynd)
Year of the Farmer (Vesa)
Year of the Judge (Navan)
Year of the Monarch (Senhilde)
Year of the Scholar (Kaena)
Year of the Merchant (Grendal)
Edlyn is one of these people. She was born in the Year of the Artist, in the seventh month (Ers), on the seventh day, and, less importantly, on Erslday. So, Edlyn's birthday would technically be the equivalent of September 7th. Education Most towns are equipped with someone to teach the local youth year-round. In the smallest of towns and villages, education is usually split up by age group and knowledge level. In larger cities, these groups usually have more ridged classes and there tends to be multiple schools in a city. Nobility and royalty tend to hire out to private tutors to educate their children, though some send their kids to prestigious schools.) Edit: Made some very minor changes to two names, everything else is the same.

(Okay! I recently drew some maps for a story of mine, and I have to agree that it's so fun! If you need any help with determining where things can go, just let me know! Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you get better/are feeling better!) Danir With Edlyn and his brothers // in the woods Danir nodded, glad to see his words were taken as the winning argument. Not that there was anything to argue about there. Still, knowing she would not be trying to repay him for saving her was a small victory he was glad to have. "Good," he said with a small smile, which soon faded again as they continued the conversation.
Though she said she did no blame him for the decision he made, it did little to ease his guilt. They had yet to enter the town, and might not even have to. Now that she was awake, Edlyn might not even want to continue on. They could rest here, let her recover, and then escort her back to her house. Sure, Baltore thought it would be best for her to see a more skilled healer, but what's to say the Healer would help her? If they could stay without being found, but maybe, just maybe, they would be able to fix this without causing too much trouble.
Danir smiled slightly as she tried to pronounce the town's name. "Theosari," he repeated, being sure to empathize each sound of the word better. "It's a beautiful city. There are no soaring castles, but the attention to details are everywhere. Even the most simple, mundane building have a sense of elegance to them. The main portion of town is more or less similar in the layout as human towns, and the woods to the east actually are pockmarked with secluded meadows. Those are used mostly for farmland. But that's of topic. There's -"
"I don't think it's wise to tell a human all about our home," Helwion spoke up from the opposite side of the camp.
(All of that is just so cool!!! I love it all. Yes to the plan on why they were being driven out too. I like the sound of a rouge group of elves, those who were tired of having the humans coming in and taking their land and resources, acting on their own to kill the living king at the time. That would be a good reason for the humans to turn on them and drive them into hiding. )

(Alright, sounds good! I might need help with some towns and river placements, but we'll see~ I'm definitely feeling better now. Turned out, it was covid. That sucked, but on the bright side I was able to rewatch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.) Edlyn With Danir//In the Woods Though the elf smiled as the blacksmith called it even, it quickly faded as the topic shifted. Despite her attempts to comfort him, Edlyn's words didn't seem to lessen Danir's guilt. Unfortunately. He seemed to consider her words for a moment, though they didn't seem to make anything better. At least they also didn't seem to make anything worse. Danir didn't say much more about his decision, and Edlyn wasn't going to press him on it. Hopefully with time he wouldn't be as hard on himself.
Asking about the city seemed to lighten her friend's mood. Edlyn's embarrassing attempt to pronounce the name of the elven city earned a smile from him, even if she made a bit of a fool of herself. She leaned forward as he began to explain things about Theosari. Though it shouldn't have been that surprising, it sounded a lot like the human settlements she was used to. Buildings with carefully crafted aritchture, some more ornate than others. Farmland spread throughout nearby fields; close enough to the cities for easy access, but far enough away to keep it separate from daily life. As Danir spoke, Edlyn found herself growing eager to explore the city, though it wasn't likely she would get the oppertunity. In fact, what were they planning to do? Would she be stuck at Danir's home like her was at hers? Would they be forced to sneak around, or risk punishment if not something worse? Before she could consider it further, one of the twins--she was pretty sure it was Helwion--interrupted Danir.
Edlyn glanced at the blue-eyed twin, trying to keep herself from glaring at him. She didn't trust either of them, and if it came down to it, she was sure they would find ways to make her stay more diffcult than it already would be. Edlyn had enough being pushed around by the pair, and she had only really interacted with them once! Drawing in a sharp breath, Edlyn eyed the man.
"And how exactly is it unwise? I'm going to see it all anyway-" probably, she silently added, "-and it's not like I have any way to communicate with other humans to tell them what I see. That said, I doubt it matters what I say. It's clear you're petty gruge is far more important to you to the point that it clouds your already flawed judgement." Edlyn had let her mouth run, unconcerned about the possible consequences of provoking someone who already didn't like her. Hopefully it wouldn't get her into too much trouble this time.
(Ah thanks! I had a lot of fun coming up with it and writing it down. Sounds good. Perhaps this rogue group had brought concerns to the council about humans taking advantage of the elves. Some high ranking human officials were doing just that, occasionally trying to bully the elves to get better deals, more resources, better plots of land, etc. Maybe the council refused for whatever reasons, so the rogue group took things into their own hands and killed the king at the time.)

(Ugh, I'm sorry that you had to deal with covid, but that is the best way to spend it. XD Fullmet Alchemist is one of my top favorite animes. I've been meaning to do a rewatch of it myself, but haven't had the time.) Danir Edlyn & His Brothers // The Forest Helwion smirked. "If they even let you anywhere near the city," he remarked. "They could just shoot you down. In fact, I hope they do just that."
"Why are you this vile?" Danir snapped at his older brother, temper flaring. "She has done nothing to you!"
"She's human. That's all I need."
"She is my friend! She is the one who saved my life. Edlyn could have easily left me for dea, but she didn't. So if even a hair of her is harmed, I will b sure that she is given the justice for te harm endured."
"More nonsense," the green eyed twin piped up. "You really are foolish, little brother."
"No more foolish than holding onto a useless grudge," Danir replied.
This caused both of the twins to turn towards him, a dangerous gleam in their eyes. Luckily, Baltore broke in before another fight could start.
"All of you, end this petty squable," he told them. "There is no sense in this. And no one will be getting hurt. I'll put forth the request for a meeting with the High Council when we return. Edlyn will not be killed or injured before then. And that's final. Now no more of this hatred. Hold your tongues, or I'll do it for you."
(I need to do something similar with the elves. I have an idea of what I want to do, but I haven't written it down. XD Exacty! And maybe they claimed that they did all the attacking and stealing in the name of the rulling figures at the time, which only forced them all into a war, one they knew the humans would win just due to sheer numbers on their side.)

(Yeah it sucked, but I was glad to watch it again. It certianly helped the time pass enjoyably. For context, I watched it for the first time back in late June/early July and it's also easily one of my favorite shows.) Edlyn With Danir//In the Woods Edlyn clenched her jaw and glared at Helwion at the sight of his smirk and the over confidence in his voice. She wanted nothing more in that moment then to punch the expression right off his face. She was sure if she went through with it, there was a strong chance she would be injured or killed. The only other thing that stopped her from doing or saying anything stupid was Danir jumping right to her defense. The anger in his voice surprised her, though the harshness of his words was even more unexpected. Edlyn watched the exchanged for a moment wide-eyed and silent as her friend argued with his brother.
Both shock and anger ebbed away and was replaced by a little guilt. How much would her presence change Danir's relationship with his brothers? How much had it already had? Shifting uncomfortably, Edlyn continued to glance between the two as they snapped at each other. She didn't miss the dangerous glints in the eyes of the twins. There was little she could do to help with that. In fact, Edlyn was sure if she spoke up tensions would only rise further. The best thing to do for the time being was to keep her mouth shut and hope things didn't escalate. Luckily for everyone, it wasn't long until Baltore stepped in and diffused things.
Though they still eyed her, Helwion and Ezella seemed to respect their eldest brother enough to listen and leave them be. "Sorry about that. I wouldn't have said anything if I'd known things would go like that. What's their issue with humans anyway? As far as I know, our people haven't interacted much for centuries. Though I suppose that doesn't have as much meaning for you guys than it does for me." Edlyn didn't expect an answer, but she still had to ask. Why did their hatred for humans run so deep? Deep enough to antagonize someone who'd save their brother's life. Curiosity aside, Edlyn quietly accepted a handful of nuts and berries from Baltore, giving a mumble of thanks before eating a few. It was hardly the most apatizing thing. Some of the berries were slightly sweet while others too sour, the nuts were mostly bland and woody. It was still a satisfying "meal" after being out for three days.
As she finished the small handful, Edlyn glanced at the forest. "When do we get moving? Didn't you say the city was still a day away?" She had no place in rushing the group forward since she only just got up. However, the sooner they got to their destination the better. The twins could go off on their own or stay in a separate room away from her. She was sure if they didn't have to be around each other, it would make things easier. Beyond that, Edlyn was also in desprate need of cleaning and a change of clothes. She was sure she wasn't the only one either.
(Even if you haven't written it down, an idea to start is always good! I really like that idea. It makes sense that some of the people in power would take advantage of the trust elves had with the humans and once a rogue group attacked, they would turn around and quickly point fingers.)

(Well, I am glad that you're better. Hopefully you won't have to go through it again. And I first watched it in, gosh, 2010? It's been ages. XD I really need to watch it again.) Danir Edlyn and his brothers // In the forest "No, you're fine," Danir assured her, his tempered glare still fixed on his twin siblings for a moment longer. He knew the two would do nothing while he and Baltore were here, but what if they were gone? He'd have to be sure to do something to protect Edlyn when he couldn't be around her. He wasn't sure how to do that yet, but he would figure something out.
Baltore returned to her side, a bowl of warm broth in his hands. He knelt on the ground by them and offered it out to the woman. He gave a small sad smile at her innocent question. She could not have known of such things before her time, and he doubted her elders would have talked about the incident to those who weren't there. "Danir was too young to remember the event. He was only about ten when it happened. There were rumors that a creature was roaming too close to the edge of the woods, much like the mission Danir was on when you meet. Both are parents volunteered to track it down, along with two others. Only one member of the party came back. Yuel, the healer of the group. Turns out, the rumors had been a trick, a trap to see if they might be able to lure the elves out. When the group a day's ride from the edge of the woods, they were ambushed by a group of fifteen humans. Yuel barely managed to make it out of the trap, and even then it took at least a month for her to make it back. But she still managed to see the slaughter of the rest of the group."
(Yeah, but now to do something with the idea. XD It'd be the right mix of chaos and confusion and fear on both sides to make the driving out of the elves a justified thing to do in the minds of the humans.)

(Haha same here. Being sick is not fun. Wow, so ten years ago for you. At least there's plenty of places to watch it.) Edlyn With Danir//In the Woods Edlyn didn't miss the glare her friend leveled at his brothers. Despite Danir's assuring words, she couldn't help but wonder once more the damage her presence would cause. For now, she kept those concerns quiet. Danir didn't need anything else worrying him for the time being and she would find ways to make sure it stayed that way. Pushing those thoughts aside, she looked at him and smiled. "Thank you for that, by the way. For your words earlier and defending me, I mean. I know my presence isn't making things easy for you, but I appreciate everything you've done for me." Hopefully her own words were more assuring for Danir.
Her attention shifted to Baltore as he offered a bowl of broth. It was warm in her hands and smelled rather good for something made out in the wild over a campfire. She begin to eat as the older elf answered her question. Though it came as a surprise to Edlyn, it was a welcomed one. She listened to the story as she took a few spoonfuls of the broth. As Baltore continued, she set the bowl down and switched between watching him and glancing at Danir. Her stomach sank as the story came to a close. No wonder the twins' hatred for the humans seemed so extreme. It was a miracle Danir and Baltore didn't feel the same, that they had been nothing but friendly with her as long as she known them. Well, discounting the whole kidnapping incident, of course.
"That's horrible. I'm...I'm sorry for your loss," she finally managed. Edlyn couldn't begin to imagine losing both her parents, especially at such a young age. Both of them were still alive and well. If they had died together, especially in such a brutal way, Edlyn couldn't imagine how she would've turned out. She wondered back to Danir's parents, their unnamed third companion, and Yuel. They were lured towards human land and... Who had done it? A group near the forest would have to be responsible. A group from one of the nearby towns. Valkton. Round Hill. Selden.
Willow Creek.
Edlyn felt her blood run cold. Her insides began to twist at the thought of the kindly people she knew hatching a murderous plot against elves that didn't mean harm. Who, in a way, helped protect the humans from the dangerous beasts that lurked in elven lands.
"Do you...Do you know who was responsible? Where it happened?"
(True. Yeah exactly. Doesn't make it right, of course, but it makes sense why they would start thinking that way.)

(Lol, yeah, and I even own half of he original FMA series, as well as some of the manga. So I have plenty of options. XD) Danir Edlyn // In the Woods Her words brought Danir's focus back to Edlyn. "No, your presence had only ever brought me happiness and contentment," he told her. "It's my brother's and their scornful behaviors who are putting a damper on things."
The whole time Baltore spoke, Danir's face was passive. He had only vague memories of his parents. Unlike his brothers, who had spent many, many decades with them, he had only a few short years. For elves, so little time was nothing more than a blink of an eye. The memories all ran together, and everything he knew now were from the stories his brothers had told him. He grieved for their loss, yet at the same time, his grief was nothing compared to the others. He did not hold the same anger and hate as the twin did. They often made him feel guilty about that fact, but there was nothing he could do. He could not grieve and mourn for those he hardly knew.
"Thank you. It was a hard blow to deal with, for the whole city. We have been able to live in peace on our own for centuries without being hunted, so the fact that the humans were starting ambushes again was startling," Baltore said. "So that is the reason for those two's barbed words. I'm sure you can understand where they come from, but at the same time, their anger should not be sent to you. You were not the cause of their deaths. We don't know who was responsible actually. Yuel could point them out, but we know no names of you humans."

(Oh yeah, you definitely have plenty of options in that case.) Edlyn With Danir and His Brothers//In the Woods Edlyn couldn't help but smile as her cheeks warmed at Danir's comment. "Oh... I-I'm glad I've only brought you happiness." His sincerity and words surprised her, even delighted her. Edlyn knew the opposite was true as well; Danir's presence had brought her happiness too. Unfortunately, she wasn't sure how much longer that would remain to be accurate. There were things she'd intentionally hid from him, things she would have to come clean about sooner or later. There was no telling how that would go. For the moment, she could enjoy their time together before that point.
Her attention shifted to Baltore, and though she hated to say it, Edlyn found herself engrossed in his unfortunate tale. Danir and his siblings didn't deserve to go through the loss of their parents. It was an awful event for anyone to expierence, and it was they hadn't fully recovered. Baltore was rueful. Ezella and Helwion were angry. Danir was resigned. Yes, their deaths had touched them all in different ways. "I can't imagine how difficult it was for you and your people to deal with. It wasn't right. It shouldn't have happened. As for your brothers, I agree I shouldn't be held responsible for what happened, but I can't exactly blame them for their anger either."
With a sigh, Edlyn slowly nodded as Baltore revealed the identities of those responsible wasn't known. She didn't have to face the idea that people she knew had murdered three innocents. She also didn't know for sure if they had been involved or not. Edlyn wasn't sure if she event wanted to know who was responsible. For now, it was easier to believe one of the other local towns headed the attack, and not the people of Willow Creek. Edlyn fell silent and finished the small bowl of broth. She handed it back to Baltore and dipped her head in thanks, then turned back toward Danir and offered him a smile. Hopefully a change in topic would make the mood lighter.
"So, when do we start heading to the city? We'll be able to make it by nightfall, right?" Though Edlyn would be safe within the group, she still wasn't overly fond of being out in the forest during the night, especially so close to the elven city. It was unlikely they would come across other elves or wild beast, it still was an uncomfortable thought that anyone could stumble upon their party--upon her. Who knew how other elves would react to the presence of a human.

Danir Edlyn and His Brothers // In the Woods "Well, if I am to be completely honest, you have brought more than happiness to me, but I figured now would not be the time to drown you in such things. That can be saved for a later time. Until then, eat," Danir instructed.
"And as far as I am concerned, you will have no blame from me at least," Baltore said. "And if the others try to bring guilt for the attack on you, I will do all in my power to shut it down. As for your question for when we'll reach the city, that depends on you. Are you feeling well enough to travel?"
"I thought we were going to wait until morning?" Danir asked. It would give them time to rest and brace themselves for the challenges to come.
"That was before she woke up," Baltore answered. "She seems to still have a good deal of her wits about her, so she can decide for herself what she feels up to do."

Edlyn With Danir and His Brothers//In the Woods With a raised brow, Edlyn nodded and continued to eat the broth, hiding a smile as she did so. Danir was very kind. Hopefully her lies wouldn't cut too deep. As she finished her broth, she turned to Baltore and nodded.
"I'm glad to know there'll be someone else on my side. You're great, Danir, but I'm not sure how much Helwion and Ezella will listen to you. Baltore seems to have some influence over them, but I think it's just an older sibling thing." Edlyn turned to the oldest elf and dipped her head.
"Thank you. I appreciate you're help; both for what's to come and the things you've already done. And you know what else, Baltore? For someone who broke into my house, inconsiderately helped kidnap me in the middle of the night, and dragged me into the woods, you're not half bad." She offered him a smile, the same sort of smile she'd give to her siblings or older cousins when she'd done something she knew would annoy them. Crowin and Brendal would occasionally laugh. Arlana and Kellna usually had the look of murder in their eyes.
Before Edlyn could answer Baltore, Danir was questioning the timing of their travel. Edlyn glanced at him, quietly letting the brothers discuss the matter. When Baltore said the choice was up to her, she smiled lightly. "Well, I've been out for three days straight, and I can at least say I'm more or less rested enough to continue on. I also think that you two--and company--would like to get home sooner rather than later. Not to mention I think we all need to bathe after being in the woods for three days straight. Who knows how much dirt, blood, and maybe even sweat I have on me." Edlyn wrinkled her nose at the thought. At least it was an easy fix with some water and soap.
Now that she was thinking about it, she was eager to get moving. It would be nice to be on her feet again. Edlyn rocked forward, sitting on her knees and hesitated. She would definitely fall on her face if she tried standing without any support. She glanced at Danir and sighed. "Can you...can you help me up?" Edlyn grumbled.

Danir With Edlyn and his brothers // In the woods "What? Don't think I could protect you on my own?" Danir asked in a teasing manner. She was right, of course. The more people on her side the better, and Baltore is the one among them with the most influence. Not only in the family dynamic, but within the council as well. As head of their family after their parents died, he was the one who got to sit in with the Council meetings and what not. So if anyone had a chance in swaying for no punishment for them, it was Baltore.
The elder brother had to laugh at the compliment given to him. "I gues I have to apologize for that as well, should I not?" he asked. "I regret the actions of that night, and if it could be done differently, I would have gladly done so. But I must say, for a fragile little sprout of a human, you're not too bad yourself."
Danir looked ready to protest her answer to move on, but he was cut off by Baltore's raised hand. "You make very good points, Edlyn. While we are no strangers to camping, I think a bathe, warm meals, and a proper bed to rest on will do everyone some good," Baltore agreed.
Still not satisfied with the end results, Danir had no choice be to nod in agreement. His eyes turned to Edlyn as she tried to rise, quickly moving to help her. Knowing how much it irritated the independent blacksmith to ask for help for such a simple task, he didn't say anything to draw attention to it as he offered out his arm for her to use as balance.

(In case we don't talk before then, happy holidays, merry Christmas, and happy New Year!) Edlyn With Danir and His Brothers//In the Woods With a light chuckle, Edlyn smiled at her friend. "You have nothing to worry about, Danir. I know you could protect me by yourself if it was needed. And if there was ever a need, you would be the first one I'd call." Well, it was a tie between him and Arlana on who she'd call first, but she still meant every word. Not only had Danir proven himself to be trustworthy and a formidable fighter, Edlyn was sure he'd go to great lengths to protect her. She would do the same for him.
Baltore laughed at her words then apologized for his part in her kidnapping. Edlyn gave a nod and smiled lightly. "Luckily for you, I have decided to forgive you--though I'm not sure I'll ever let you live it down. Also, 'fragile, little sprout'? I would say none of those words accurately describe me. I would hardly characterize myself as 'fragile'. Instead, 'easily damaged by dangerous things in the mysterious woods just like anyone else' is a far better descriptor for me, I think. Also, I'm not little. Five feet, seven inches is hardly little." For a Kaidan woman, at least, Edlyn silently added. Though she wasn't often the tallest in a group, she was rarely the shortest. The Kaidan people were considered somewhat short, Edlyn and her siblings were a bit of an anomaly because of their mother's Narid blood. Among elves, that difference probably didn't matter.
As they discussed the next leg of their journey, Danir's displeasure at moving so soon was apparent. He was ready to argue and only silenced when Baltore raised his hand. Though she smiled at the oldest elf's words, Edlyn glanced at Danir apologetically. His concerns were reasonable, but they needed to get moving and seek the safety of his home. The longer they remained in the woods, the more likely they would be caught. Edlyn wasn't sure how merciful other elves would be to humans. Danir eventually nodded in agreement and said nothing more.
With the plan finalized, Edlyn began to get up. When she quietly asked for her friend's help, he wordlessly offered her his arm for support. She grabbed onto it and managed to get to her feet with his aid. Edlyn took a moment to stretch, her legs stiff from disuse. Despite that, it was nice to finally stand. "Thanks for the help," she whispered, taking a few steps forward with his help. Danir remained silent through the process. Edlyn glanced at him and absent-mindedly tugged at her necklace. Something seemed to be bothering him.
"I'll make the journey perfectly fine if that's what you're worried about," she quietly prompted. "And if any issues do arise--" Edlyn lightly squeezed his arm and offered Danir a smile, "--you'll be here if I need you. Well you, and your brothers too, I suppose. Well, I can definitely count on you and Baltore at least." If something were to happen, Edlyn doubted the twins would be much help for her.

(Hey! Sorry! I've been good. The new year has been hectic with a lot of stuff happening at once, but it's been good. How has your new year been so far?) Danir Edlyn and his brothers // Forest "I hope there never becomes a need for it, Danir said. If things were so bad that Edyn could not defend herself, it would be a dire situation indeed. But he meant what he said, and would not even think twice before stepping up to her defense, no matter the conscenquences that it would bring.
Baltor laughed once more. He could see why Danir was fond of her. "You have a good spirit. Keep that, and you might be able to handle things. I can't promise they'll be easy, but I think you can manage."
Danir kept his gaze on Edlyn as she stood and tested out her legs. All seemed to be in working order, but he didn't move away. He stayed with her, just to be sure. "I know," he murmured with a sigh. "I worry too much. It's just a habit. That and I guess there's just so much out of my control with this that it's bothering me more than it should. Are you sure you feel fine? No pain? No dizziness?"

(No worries, just glad to hear you've been okay despite the hectic start to the new year. Hopefully things settle down for you, but if you ever need to talk, feel free to message me. As for me, my new year has been good so far. I finished my reread of Percy Jackson at the beginning of the month and now I kinda want to go back and reread other books I was into in middle school/early high school like The Ranger's Apprentice and maybe Guardians of Ga'Hoole.) Edlyn With Danir and His Brothers//In the Woods Edlyn smiled at him softly. "I'm sure there won't be a need for your protection. I don't think we have much to worry about and we'll figure this whole thing out. Together." Though she would've liked to tell him they had nothing to worry about, she'd be lying. There were the people of Kaidan to worry about, of course, but there were also other elves to consider. Helwion and Ezella hated her, but would others feel the same? Edlyn wasn't sure she wanted to find out.
Edlyn grinned as Baltore laughed. He really wasn't so bad and she had to give him credit for trying. It probably also helped he reminded her a little of her cousin, Brendal. "I'm not entierly sure there is anything easy about this situation, but I think Danir and I managed pretty well up until the end. With more people involved, perhaps things will be easier." Edlyn paused and glanced at the twins who had, thankfully, decided to ignore her. "Or maybe things will be more diffcult," she added, mumbling.
Pushing troubling thoughts away, Edlyn focused on getting to her feet with Danir's help. She remained quiet as her friend spoke, revealing his frustrations. "You don't need to apologize, I understand. Your worrying is sweet and shows me that you care. However, you shouldn't stress yourself out, especially because of me. We'll get through this." Though she couldn't be sure how well her words helped, Edlyn hoped it eased some of his worries. He didn't deserve to be on edge, especially considering the past three days. "Anyway, I'm feeling fine. Other than a little stiffness in my legs, at least. That's to be expected, though, considering I was just some motionless flesh for a few days. I think I'll be ready to walk whenever we leave."
(Think we should do a timeskip here in the next few replies?)

(Stressed and busy, but relatively good. Had a lot of big changes going on, still struggling with a few, but I'm getting by. How are you? I hope that you did get into reading all of those books, mainly the Ranger's Apprentice series. That one is my favorite, and I absolutely adore it!) Danir Edlyn and his brothers // Forest One more, Danir had to admire her bravery in the face of danger. Whether it be a horrible beast of the forest, or the upcoming meeting with a race of people who harbored a deep rooted hatred for her kind, the blacksmith was steady and calm. In fact, she was still doing more to calm himself down, and he wasn't even the one inured or facing the most danger.
The elf smiled and held Edlyn as steady as he could. "If you're right, and this all goes to plan, than I own you a feast and the best weapon that I can get my hands on," he told her, smiling. Around them, his brothers were gathering the gear and putting out the campfire. Whether he was ready or not, it was time to make the last leg of the journey home.
(And here we can skip to whenever. I'm thinking once they get into the city.)

(Sorry to hear that, but at least you've been good overall. And despite your struggles, it's good to hear you've been getting by. As for me, I've mostly been good. In Feburary, I had two papers, an easy discussion, and test all due in two days, but beyond things have been fine for me. This week was Spring Break for me, so that was also nice. I'm almost done with the second Percy Jackson series. I seriously forgot how much I loved the books. I also haven't read TRA yet, but I plan to get to it sometime this year. I haven't read it since middle school, but I do remember loving it. I think my favorite was the...fourth book? Whichever one Alyssa had been captured in and was communicating with Will using the lanterns. I remember loving her planning her escape and finding the concept of science being use for magic super cool.) Edlyn With Danir and His Brothers//In the Woods "I'll be sure to hold you to that," Edlyn laughed. Danir really knew how to get her attention. A free meal and a new weapon? What else could a woman want? First, they just needed to survive getting to Theosari. That would be easy enough, assuming they didn't get caught by a patrol. And after they reached the city, Edlyn would make sure they succeeded, one way or another. Between her, Danir, and his brothers--well, probably just Baltore--everything would turn out just fine.
The other three began to pack up camp to prepare for their journey. Edlyn looked out to the forest and took a deep breath. Yes, everything was going to be fine and they would all come away from the situation unscathed.
⋗⥊🜂⥋⋖ Though she had been full of energy after her three day slumber, Edlyn wanted nothing more than to curl up in a bed and fall back asleep. Her feet were sore from the day's hike and a sense of exhaustion hung over her. Night had fallen, though the forest had grown dark much sooner due to the trees. The trees seemed taller than normal. In fact, the whole forest was slightly different. Slightly...off. Edlyn had noticed it right after she awoke, though it seemed to be far more noticeable now. Some of the plants grew in odd ways. Tree trunks tightly twisted around each other like a braid, she caught a couple of flowers that seemed to move on their own, and a a few of the plants even glowed faintly. Those didn't help her see well, unfortunately. She had to rely on Danir to navigate through the unfamiliar woods.
They had given her a cloak to obscure her features and hide her bloodied clothes. It was the same one she had been using as a blanket that morning. Edlyn kept the hood up and tried her best to avoid stepping on it. She had already tripped on the cloak a few times and had dealt with it snagging occasionally on their journey. It wasn't made for someone so...well, short. They were all close to a head taller than she was, and the cloak was made to fit one of them. Walking with the four of them, Edlyn couldn't help but feel small. Outside a handful of instances, Edlyn was almost never the shortest in a group. She would have to get use to it; elves were naturally tall.
One of the elves stopped suddenly at the treeline and Edlyn almost ran into him. Though she wanted to ask what happened, it was difficult to tell who had stopped. If it was Baltore, she would be fine. If it was one of the twins, there was a decent chance she'd just get skeward by one of their knives. She looked past him and was met with a lovely sight. The city didn't resemble the sights in Kaiden or the drawings she saw of Narid. Willow Creek was filled with short buildings--no more than one or two stories tall--made of stone and wood. They were sturdy and built with functionality in mind. The buildings she saw now were ornate and covered in grand embellishments. It was beautiful.
After a moment, Edlyn managed to find her voice. "So, where's your house? I assume we're not lucky enough for it to be on the outskirts of the city?" It was a hopeful thought, but likely a wrong one. Edlyn lived on the outskirts of Willow Creek. It was a good fifteen minute or so walk between her home and the town, which made it the perfect place to care for Danir. In the middle of the city, she could only image how difficult that would be. First, they would have to get through the city.l, and she had no idea how they planned to sneak her around. Wearing a cloak a few sizes too big with the hood up and being obviously short, she would be far from inconspicuous.
(Yeah that works. Also, I didn't know what you wanted the city to look like, so I left it vague.)

(Ugh, don't you just love when school gets hectic like that? But hang in there. You'll be done with it in no time, and you'll be free to do as you wish! ^-^ The 5th/6th books cover that, and yeah, I enjoyed that story arch as well. Though I think the most nerve-wracking one is the 9th book, but I won't give any spoilers on what happens.) Danir Edlyn and his brothers // Thoesari The last leg of the journey hoe was much easier for Danir without the extra weight of Edlyn in his arms. That wasn't to say he wouldn't carry her again. In fact, there were multiple times throughout the day where he asked if she needed the break. He would gladly become her transportation if she didn't feel strong enough to walk for herself. She did well for the first few hours, he would give her that. Despite her injuries and lack of strength, she persevered and proved she could keep up with them.
Of course, when night fell, it was a different matter. The brothers all called upon their magic to make small orbs of floating light, bright enough to light the ground before them, but not enough to just completely illuminate the whole forest. Danir made sure to stick close to Edlyn. As elves, they could already see better in the dark. Humans, however, he knew were not as great in low lighting. Add on top of that the fact the blacksmith was wearing his cloak and nearly tripping every few steps. He wished he had something better fitting for the woman, but all of the brothers were tall. And with them being so close to the city, he didn't want to chance her taking it off in favor of easier travel. "Just a bit further," he promised.
It was indeed Baltore who stopped suddenly. Feeling Edlyn's presence behind him, he stepped to one side so she could see the sight for herself. "Welcome to Thoesari," he said.
Stretched out below them was a city that appeared to have sprung from nature itself. The land itself was cleared flatland, but one would never be able to tell it. Houses and building along the outskirts mimicked the forest around them. From a distance, it was difficult to tell what was a hill, a tree, a natural rise of rock, and what was house. They only thing separating nature from elf-made structures were the small windows what let out light from inside. Beyond that, more in the center of the city, were more noticeable and defied structures made in a more traditional way. Those were the more official buildings and nobles of the city resided, but that was for another day. What was more easier to see and perhaps the more stunning of the details, were the lights. Everywhere, along the streets and above homes, even dancing among the treetops, were thousands of flickering lights. They were similar to the orbs the brothers had made, yet these seemed to float in individual patterns, all blinking and flickering s ways that were reminiscent of fireflies.
"I do live near the edge of town," Danir answered her question, letting the blacksmith take in the sight. He had grown up here, and yet the sight of his city at night still fascinated him. "However, it's on the other side of town. So we're still going to have to enter the city. There will be sentries, but if we choose carefully, we might be able to sneak by them without being detected. Then we'll have at least the night to rest before worrying about what will happen next."

(Exactly, it's always fantastic when school suddenly swamps you. Ugh, yeah, the semesters almost over and I'm so happy about that. Just about six more weeks and I'll be done for now. Summer's always nice to look forward to. Woops, clearly I need to reread them. It has been way too long. I want to say I have vague memories of the ninth book stressing me out, but I only have a recollection of bits and pieces of the series, so thank you! I can't wait to reread them, it's going to be great.) Edlyn With Danir and His Brothers//Thoesari Whoever was in front of her stepped out of the way so Edlyn could get a better view. "Welcome to Thoesari," Baltore said as he presented the city. It was good to know she wasn't behind either twin. Now that there wasn't someone so tall in the way, Edlyn could take in the scene better. Her eyes widened as she made out more details and she took a step forward. Edlyn noticed buildings rising from the center of the city for the first time. Despite clearly having been constructed by elves, they still blended with the surrounding forest. Smaller buildings that were likely homes and shops seemed to fill a majority of the city. It was hard to tell what was natural and what was elven made. The only thing that seemed to separate the constructs were windows that reflected the lights.
The floating lights had caught her eye. They gently flickered, and for a moment, Edlyn thought they were giant fireflies. She soon realized the lights were similar to the ones Danir and his brothers had summoned. There were easily hundreds of them lazily drifting in the air above the city and through the streets. She couldn't see any streetlights from the ridge. The orbs probably provided enough light that they didn't need such things. There was something so...other worldly about it and Edlyn couldn't help but love it.
For a moment, she imagined what it would be like if her siblings and cousins were to see Theosari. Kellna and Elris would probably study the architecture, lights, and whatever other magic they could get their hands on while Corwin, Varlen, and Lera would search for something to eat. Edlyn would've probably joined them. She could imagine Brendal exploring the city with Arlana--who would be watching his back--and Nira, his betrothed, while chatting with the locals. She smiled at the thought and lightly sighed. Word of her disappearance would've reached them days ago, in the hours after Danir and his brothers saved her. Her family was probably worried and already making preparations to get her back. A chill rolled up Edlyn's spine at that thought. That was something she had to discuss with Danir, and no matter how much it would hurt, she had to do it sooner rather than later. Until then, she could enjoy the city.
Edlyn's attention turned to Danir as he explained their current plan. Though she liked the sound about worrying about their next steps tomorrow, her focus was on getting getting his house. It wasn't as bad as she feared, his house wasn't in the middle of Theosari, but it wasn't exactly easy to get there. "Well, living on the outskirts of the city is good. Having to travel through the city with the risk of being stopped by sentries in order to get to your house on the outskirts isn't so good." Edlyn considered their path for a moment.
"How active are the sentries at this time? Do they have a strict areas they patrol? And how crowded are the streets at night? Perhaps we can use the crowd to our advantage. Also, will the cloak with the hood up draw attention to me, or would that not matter if we stick to areas less often traveled?" Being an elvish city, things would be different than in Kaiden's capital. However, that didn't mean some of her old tricks wouldn't come in handy to sneak through the city. She could remember sneaking out with her siblings and cousins a few times, trying to avoid the guards that patrolled the capital. Edlyn turned to Danir. "We probably should get moving. The sooner we get to your home, the safer we'll be." Whatever was going to happen in the next leg of their journey, they were going to safely make it to his home.
