Lilyberry mentions that there is a familiar scent to her there, her mate Gull. She hope she he is taking good care of the kits as she knows he is a decent cat.
Honeyslip later reports she found the scent of kits and a tom-cat in a hollowed our tree at the other end of the territory. There, they bump into Trout, who looks alarmed and scared. Although he is instantly relieved to see his Clanmates, fears for his sisters.

Honeyslip takes an interest in Crashclaw, and Snowspeckle admits she likes Breezeshade. Waspstreak and Northstar decide to extend the borders, but this calls for more hunting patrols and border patrols to cover more territory. Two thirds of the clan is on board with the idea, while the other third, that consisting of mostly the older warriors, are against it and say the prey in their territory hasn't ever been a problem before.

Stormcloud decides to retire to the elders den due to asthma. Honeyslip moves to the nursery, announcing she is having Crashclaw's kits. Trout becomes an apprentice, but is on the edge, as his siblings aren't with him yet. Northstar apprentices him to Flowersong, stating they will find Rosie and Daphne soon.
Northstar asks Lilyberry to move out of the nursery and into the den with the Nursery Helpers instead, until they find her kits.
Nightchaser officially moves into the elders den. Peakrunner constantly sleeps with him in the elders den, keeping him warm, clean and fed. The two toms also make sure Raindust's pregnancy goes well. This is her last, and a very risky litter. Hillrunner and Mountainshade are worried, hoping she doesn't pass giving birth.

Unexpectedly, Raindust goes into premature labor. The birth is very hard on her and one of the kits, who is born blind. Tragically, Raindust passes just after the birth is finished. Nightchaser and Peakrunner name one of the kits after her, in thanks and honor.

Nightchaser seems very protective of little Ripplekit, who spends most time with his fathers in the elders den. The other kits question why he is special compared to them, but Honeyslip hushes them, letting them know their fathers love them just asmuch, and that Ripplekit was just... Special.
An outbreak of sickness strikes the clan, effecting Northstar, Willowfrond, Snowspeckle and Oakdapple. Northstar loses another life, but recovers quickly after. Hillrunner heals the others, though Willowfrond and Oakdapple take longer to recover.

As the newest litter in the clan continues to grow, and Honeyslip gets closer to kitting, young Ripplekit takes a serious interest in the medicine den - due to his lack of sight, he can smell much better than others because he is more attuned to it. He memorizes herbs as Hillrunner and Mountainshadow work to treat cats that come through. The two medicine cats discuss, and they come to an agreement. It is decided that once Mountainshadow retires and Ripplekit becomes an apprentice, Hillrunner will take on the young tom. Ripplekit is very excited about this news.

Harekit and Palekit are made apprentices, apprenticed to Stormgazer and Sparrowclaw.
Mountainshadow and Hillrunner go out to herb hunt, however, Mountainshadow advises Hillrunner they will be hunting for the herbs in a very dangerous cliff area. Hillrunner assures the aging tom that he can will be fine. The two are at the edge of a cliff, collecting catmint when the cliff cracks. Mountainshadow leaps at the edge of the cliff Hillrunner is still on, hanging on by his claws. Hillrunner shrieks in terror and tries as hard as he can to bring Mountainshadow back up before he falls. But to no avail. The elderly medicine cat slips, scraping the stone sharply with a loud and horrifying yowl before colliding with the ground and stones of the mountain area below, breaking his neck, blood pooling over the snow. Hillrunner stumbles back in horror, grabs the catmint and runs back to camp to inform the clan of the terrifying news.
Waspstreak orders all patrols to stay off the cliffs for the time being unless absolutely needed. Hillrunner is stricken with grief, anger and terror. He blames himself for Mountainshadow's death, however Ripplekit tries to explain that Starclan just wanted Mountainshadow at that time, and that they will see him soon.

Lilyberry is found dead at the border, and it is presumed the rogues killed her. Northstar doesn’t act upon it however, only making Troutpaw more doubtful they’ll find his siblings.

Softpetal and Blackswan ask Stormgazer to surrogate for them, and he is happy to comply. Softpetal moves to the nursery expecting kits. Honeyslip gives birth to Rabbitkit who is born deaf due to problems with the birth.
