I'm just chilling right now and thinking about my short story for creative writing and creating way too many characters for the fun of it

Making characters is fun

I've got a few warriors but most of my characters are humans because that's what I like writing about

me too! actually right now I've got mostly cat ocs i think because im writing a warriors fanfic and need a lot of them, but my best ocs are all humans. I've got 4 stories right now, but only 2 of them are really good and im working on those two. They are a werewolf and vampire story. The other two are a ghost story and a magic fantasy universe story i made up when i was 15 and terrible at writing

Ah yeah that makes sense
Those sound interesting. I'm not super into supernatural type stuff but I know a lot of people that are
I'm currently writing a dystopian story and playing around with ideas for a superhero story and a different one that I'm not sure how to classify I'm also working on one more short story for my creative writing class and I started a story that's kind of a background for one of the characters in my dystopian story but I'm not sure if I'll turn that in or write something else

cool. in the vampire story im currently working on im trying to subvert a lot of common vampire tropes. there will be no romance even though the vampire is a protagonist. it's more of a buddy buddy slice of life and comedy thing. It will reference twilight a lot because there's a teenage girl who loves it to pieces and the vampire ends up babysitting her. hilarity ensues
i'd love to hear more about your stories/characters though. character especially because i adore characters. what's your superhero like?

That actually sounds really great and I love it. Good luck with that! Feel free to tell me more. I love hearing about characters and stories
Well my superhero one is the least developed at the moment. Like I have very basic rough ideas of characters and a very super basic idea of how stuff will go. For my other one I've got some kinda establish characters and I'm working on an outline. My dystopian one is the most developed one I've got so I'd love to talk about that one a bit. I just finished chapter 3 but progress has been slow because of school

Yes go ahead tell me! As for my story, it's called Plastic Teeth. It's going to be a short story series for now and then I'll be turning it into comics once I experiment with the characters enough. First there's Benny Belmont, an African American who was born in France, but now lives in NYC. He has an inferiority complex though he's quite smart and hardworking. His complex causes him to bottle up a lot of resentment for his wife until he finally decides to kill her and enlists his vampire friend to help. At the start of the story his wife has been dead three years and him and the vampire and living together with Benny's daughter Zauna. Hugh, the vampire is very uneducated and was never that smart to begin with. He isn't even able to read or do basic math at the beginning of the story. Since he's keeping Benny's secret and Benny's keeping his, they end up becoming companions and friends though there's a lot of clashing between them since Hugh is essentially a hedonist. He smokes, drinks and does drugs, mostly at Benny's expense. He's 68 though looks 32 because of his immortality. I can draw so I actually came up with a design for him since I wanted him to have a very specific classical vampire inspired face

I mean it's a pretty typical story about a young girl that gets involved with a rebellion but I'm hoping I have a few things that set it apart from everything else. I'm not worried too much about it being cliche or anything since it's my first full length novel that I'm actually hoping to stick to so I'll just be proud of that. Anyway, my main characters are Ari, Kit, Jasper, Julian, and Lacey. There's some minor characters that play a big role but I wouldn't classify them as major characters. Then King Leonidas is the main antagonist. Then there's Ari's brother Caius who has this whole subplot to himself and he becomes a pretty big character later on. He's actually the character I'm writing my short story about but I'm not sure how well I'll be able to develop this whole dystopian world and tell a story in 15 pages but I'm trying it anyway
They sound like they're really fun to work with and I love Hugh. His design is also super cool. I love it! I've wanted to draw my characters (not just from this story but any of my characters in general) but I have zero talent so I can't lol

You could always commission someone to do it. Of course it requires you to have a few spare bucks...
Tell me about your world and individual characters

Yeah. I have a few bucks but I'm not sure that's what I want to spend it on. Instead I'm waiting to see if my cousin can do it when I finally finish the story. She's an amazing artist and already said she'd be willing to do a drawing if I finish the story because she loves reading my writing
The world is pretty cliche. It's focused on one city that's split into two sectors, a rich and a poor one. There's a lot more specifics but that's all you really need to know. For the characters... Ari is the main character and it's in her POV. She lives in the poor sector and is in charge of her two younger brothers after the deaths of her parents and brother. She kinda plays the role of the town doctor so her family is better off financially than most. She also lives with her best friend and ex boyfriend Kit who kinda helps her raise her brothers Kit is a giant teddy bear that looks like a tree basically. He's super sweet but uses the intimidation card pretty often, especially when Ari or her brothers are involved. His favorite weapon is his axe and he lives with Ari after his grandparents died Jasper and Julian are twins that live in the rich city. Julian likes to party and is always trying to have a good time and is generally a good guy that just makes bad choices. Jasper is the more serious of the two and comes off as a jerk at first Lacey is the second in command of the rebellion. She's sweet, but can drop the act and be pretty deadly. Even Jasper and Julian follow her orders without question Caius is Ari's older brother and he's actually *gasp* not dead. He starts out pretty small but becomes huge later on Cassius works for Leonidas And the rebellion so his loyalty is always being questioned. He also lost a hand and got it replaced with a super advanced one that like shoots bullets out of it and is super strong I think that's my main group

So you're balancing multiple stories and short stories at once? Do you have any tips? I've got one novel on chapter three, two more that are just being planned out, one more short story for class, and then I have to revise one of my three short stories as my final for that class. It's a lot to handle but I'm not sure I can drop any of them so do you have any tips?

Also I was wondering if either of you would be willing to read the two short stories I already posted and tell me which one you think would be better to revise for my final? I may add in my third one once it's finished but I figured I could get a start on revising one and then just abandon that if I decide to go with the third. It's also cool if you don't have time but let me know if you want to and I'll PM you!

If there's one thing I learned it's impossible to avoid and the best way to balance them is to set goals and priorities for your stories. For me, obviously the ones for class are the highest priority as they have a due date, so they tend to come first on the list. Then my novel, and then the shorts fics for fun. Don't try to work on them all at once; tried that, you'll drive yourself crazy seeing so many word documents/tabs open on your computer and notebooks on your desk. So set goals for your stories that you can achieve in stages instead of willy nilly writing. Like, "okay, I'm going to finish and revise this short story today. And when that's done, I'll work on a chapter in my book," instead of "okay I'm going to get out ALL of my stories and work on them as I feel like it." If you find yourself stumped (the cursor effect, I call it) move onto your next goal and come back to the other one later. You can always revise. Sometimes you need to start writing in order to find your flow. People don't just find gold they usually have to dig a little to come across it.

I haven't really been working on any of them because of the stories due for creative writing but when I do have time I've been working on my dystopian novel
