OOC Yeah, that part is usually pretty hard too. For me, I just don't know what to write, even though I've got plenty of stories available for me.

Are they like already started? I'd say go with ehichever one seems most interesting. Do you mind if I PM you and run a few of my ideas by you just to see what someone else thinks?

OOC Yeah, I'm started on almost all of my story ideas. I'm also just lacking motivation right now, like, I don't even wanna roleplay.
Sure!

Hmm... I'm considering writing something and possibly putting it up here, on the forums. o.O But there's that whole "release your story on the internet and you can never publish it" thing.

I've been thinking of writing a short story to commemorate the centennial of the Great War, but I'm not even sure what part of the war it should focus on.

So, I'm a bit torn on what to do with the cultures in my story. Like, I know what the main ones are going to be based on,and I already decided to include basic terminology to show that even further and even the names are going to use the naming conventions of their real life counterparts, but should the same go for things like noble and royal ranks?
For example, one of the countries is based on Russia, so instead of using queen as a royal title, should I use koroleva instead?

I think that would be pretty interesting. Just be sure to explain which ranks are highest and which are lowest, all that, in the exposition. The ranks will actually be based on real royal and noble ranks in accordance to the culture each country is based on. What I'm having trouble deciding, however, is whether I should use the direct translations for these ranks or just go with the English translations. Again using Russia as an example, I can't decided whether the queen's rank should be, well, queen, or koroleva, which is queen in Russian. EDIT: Okay, so I finally decided to just use king, queen, etc... for royal and noble ranks unless a character is speaking in a different language and another character can't understand them. Either way, I plan to include a glossary in the back of each book. And speaking of foreign countries, I'm going to need to start getting travel guides just so I can get an accurate depiction of the culture.

So I guys, I LIVE! I've been taking a break but now that I'm back to writing I'm really trying to crack down on a part of my story (stories) that have always been lacking in my eyes; genealogy of my characters. I'll readily admit, my favorite kinds of plot twists are the kinds that have to do with family. "OMG! CHARACTER 1 IS ACTUALLY CHARACTER 4'S TWIN SISTER SEPARATED AT BIRTH" or stuff like that. Sometimes in stories, and even fanfics, however, this doesn't appeal to the plot of the story. It can be used for character development but if used in an off way can damage a character by making the situation seem awkward and forced. For example, now, I'm struggling with one character learning that her father is actually somebody else than who she thought. The only issue, it doesn't seem in character for her "biological father" to have her to another woman while still married. Sometimes, the genealogies just don't pan out. Or they're a convoluted mess. I've found it makes it easier to write down a family tree, but that's hard by hand. So I don't know if anybody else struggles with this problem or not but I have found this fairly easy to use, free, browser based family tree creator that works quite well, and I shall be posting a link on the main post if anybody wants it. OOC Whoops, lowkey forgot about this place, sorry!
Also, there really is something for that? Because I love doing family trees, one time I tried to do one for one of my main characters, even going as far as to write little snippets of what each of her family members did in their time and all that.

I also completely forgot about this thread until now.
Anyway, that's my favorite type of plot twist too. Even my own stories have at least them. So much so that I've been trying to write up family trees to keep organized. But awesome that there's a site to create family trees. It'd make things so much easier.
And while I don't care for genetics, I'm trying to be as accurate as I can, at least as far as my human characters are concerned anyway, and especially when the countries they live in are inspired by real countries. Which reminds me, I still need to get those travel guides. I may even need to look at a map just to get a good idea of what I'm dealing with.

𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 ah that's cool, haha. I did too, to be honest. xD I don't think it's specifically designed "for fictional characters", but it is very useful for that reason despite that. The only reason I say that is because it makes you start off with "you" as the building block of the family tree, but I substitute the character in question and go from there. For example, what I'm working on now looks at bit like this: 𝓣𝓲𝓷𝓾𝓿𝓲𝓮𝓵 honestly, it helps a lot just being able to sort it all out and connect the dots visually instead of having a scrambled mess in my head xD Now I can see kind of how it would hard to connect him and her. Still on the fence xD

𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 aww thanks xD Victoria is my brain child. And my avatar lol. God, early Victoria was scary convoluted. I wanted to keep her simple and Russian. xD 𝓣𝓲𝓷𝓾𝓿𝓲𝓮𝓵 Wow xD But bless Family Echo, I was just trying to make my alternate family tree (Option 2 xD) and it was so messy and had me stumped I was like, "huh, if this were any more obviously Family Echo would be slapping me across the face." xD The website will certainly be very helpful, but it seems to be a bit of a pain on mobile. Oh, well. I'll get used to it soon. ^^" Your Victoria is Russian? Cool! So is my Anastasiya (Asya, for short). Well, her country is inspired by Russia, anyway. And speaking of my ruthless Tsarina, I think I may have turned her into a female Javert without even realizing it until now (the closest character to Valjean would be her old friend, Vlad). The thing that got me to realize this was Confrontation.

OOC Thanks! Here it is, it was kind of a struggle to write, so idk how great it is, I was experimenting with different writing styles.
It was dark.
It was always dark though. There had only ever been darkness. It engulfed everything around it, hiding even the most painstakingly obvious things from sight. Not that there was anything to see anyways. Just darkness.
There truly was nothing else. No noise, no smells, nothing to touch, to taste, to feel, there was nothing. Not even life. There had only ever been darkness and darkness was all there ever would be.
That is, until it wasn’t.
Suddenly, there was pain as air leaked its way into the darkness, summoning the bleak, empty body back to life.
It let out a pained, sudden gasp as it began to breathe. One might not think that breathing was painful, but for one who had not done it for so long…It was.
Soon, there was more than just darkness and breathing.
Soon, there was life.
Eyes fluttered open, withholding the surprise of suddenly living as It looked around. There was still darkness, but this was…different, than before. This darkness was suffocating, it was real, it was everywhere, and it was encasing everything.
However, before panic could settle in, everything began to move and suddenly: there was sound.
It wasn’t anything great at first, just the noise of something rushing past, speeding through the darkness as it began to ebb away into something less dark, and then even less. It was then that It realized that It was what flickered out of the darkness.
Suddenly, there was light, and color. It came in a blur, different shades of black, then gray, then finally, white. The color came much faster than the noise, but even that began to get more exuberant as it rushed on.
And then, there were words, voices, people speaking. It could barely get what was being said out, as it was distant and far away, only echoing back, but then, as It began to get closer and closer to the noises, they began to get louder, clearer, until finally, It could hear everything that was being said, word for word.
“You have no idea what that does, I’m begging you, don’t do it.”
It recognized that voice. But…from where?
“How would you know? You are nothing but a homeless freak.”
It did not recognize that voice, yet there was something oddly appealing about it. The way the voice spoke, full of spite and emotion. It was a voice that It could relate to.
“No, don't-“
The first voice, the one It recognized, didn’t get to finish it’s sentence, as all of a sudden, the rushing continued, circling It from all around. Suddenly, it felt like It was suffocating again, and desperately tried to breathe as the panic and pain sunk back it.
However, in all but a second, the pain was gone. The rushing was gone. Everything that It once knew was gone. All the silence, all the emptiness, all the darkness.
Instead, it had been replaced by a world of color, of foundation, of…life.
It slowly stood up on shaky feet, looking down at it’s legs and arms. They were not It’s own, It knew that, but as It stood there, a sudden wave of realization and memory washed over It.
And suddenly, It remembered.
It looked up, finding two faces, one was not familiar to It. That face was scaly, and green, with a look of both confusion and excitement shining upon the face.
However the second face…well It knew that face.
A sudden wave of anger washed through It as It remembered the second face of pale skin and green eyes full of worry and irritation to match that same green hair. It remembered that face well.
For that was the face that had destroyed It all those years ago.
Suddenly, a rush of power engulfed It, and a thought came to mind.
It began to laugh as It rose in the air, looking down at the faces. Then, once It was high enough in the air, It smiled and then…It spoke.
“It has been a long time Eeeyuppa, I have awoken, and now, it is you who will be destroyed,” It threatened in a voice unlike It’s own.
However that was fine with It, for the face was scared, for both the face and It now knew, that It had awaken from a sleep it never meant to be awoken from, and now…
It was going to get revenge.
