{ ooc: bud, i'm glad! }
- He was so hot. He was burning and burning, the fragile skin on his lips cracking, eyes squeezed tightly shut against a whipping wind and a bright, painful light. Gallifrey was taking him back, swallowing him whole and wracking his insides with that torturous noise. Fists pounded the beat of four on the inside of his skull, and if he had been able to move his arms he would've endeavored to dig them out himself.
Thud-thud-thud-thud.
A piercing whistle filled his ears as the light behind his eyelids grew so bright it hurt. His already broken body, a failed half-regeneration, felt like it was being compressed in on itself as he was hurled closer to the heat. "Burning, burning!" The Master opened his mouth to scream as the light and the noise became unbearable, but he could hear no sound, only feel the vibrations in his own throat as he drew closer and closer to the smoldering ruins of the planet he had called home.
And all at once, it was over. His whole body spasmed, the shock of the sudden deprivation to his senses hitting him like a speeding vehicle. Everything had gone quiet, and for a moment he wondered if he was dead, struggling to open his eyes and move his mouth, but they refused to cooperate with him, as did his limbs. A hot bolt of rage and what seemed to be some sort of fear lodged itself in his chest and stomach as he let his body go limp, feebly trying to collect what information he could. Wherever he was it was dank, smelling of decay and moisture. His back and neck were wet, like he'd landed in some of it. The noise in his head was blessedly gone, but the heat and pain still lingered in his bones.
Had he been saved?
{ ooc: i'll leave it up to you to determine exactly where on earth he ended up. }

Irene was walking down the back alley towards her humble little apartment in Atlanta. Trash bags were piled up around her, and for some reason there was a man laying back down on a bag full of a liquid she would rather not question. "Um, sir...?" Irene was about 50% sure he was either drunk or just escaped the mental hospital. "Are you alright?" She adjusted the black fedora that sat upon her purple and black dyed hair

- The only response that The Master gave was a grunt. On the inside, it was something akin to, "Take on step closer and I'll flay you." On the outside his hands and feet twitched, and he managed to pry one dark eye open, peering up at the blurry, outlined shape of a humanoid that stood above him.
The sky, he registered after his vision began to adjust, was blue. He was on Earth, not Gallifrey. The passage back into the time lock... he must've slipped out of it somehow. His brain was too frazzled to work out the mathematics of that right now. With another groan he pushed himself up, arm nearly buckling underneath of him as he managed to flip himself onto his side, still laying prone in front of this human.
Stupid, stupid, he felt stupid, and angry. Clenching his teeth, he tried to get his arms to work again, but apparently he had exhausted himself, and he deigned to put his cheek back down in the puddle, eyes rolling in his head as another bolt of pain wracked his body.

Irene smiled and offered him a hand. "Would you like me to help you up, sir? I can call a taxi for you." Something about him felt off. She couldn't quite place the feeling, but he definitely seemed different. After all, most people didn't lay around in alleyways for fun, so that alone made him highly unusual.

- The look he gave her would've been enough to drop a horse if looks could've actually killed. The corner of his mouth twitched into an angry frown, and he barred his teeth, more trying to get his words out than snarl at her.
It took a moment of battling with his useless excuse for good Time Lord biology and the pain that still seemed to be firing from about every nerve ending within him, but he finally managed to seethe through his front teeth, "I can't move... my arms." Or his legs, but that was about all he was able to get out at the moment before the side of his face ended up in the puddle again, blonde hair turning dirty-brown as it met with it.

His look caused Irene toflinch for a second. But she steeled her nerves and decided she would help him one way or another. "Alright. I'm going to get you on your feet, okay?" She placed one arm around his shoulder, and one hand on his chest, heaving upwards with all her might-which even though she was only 5'5 she was rather strong thanks to a gym membership and a lot of working out- but she wasn't able to get him all the way up."You could help me out here." She grunted with effort

- The Master, humiliated, half of his body soaked in water and gasoline, hung there like a limp rag doll. If he was at his full strength he would've snapped this human in two, but he couldn't even get his feet under him. After a few feeble tries, he managed to steady himself on one foot and lean clumsily onto a nearby garbage can, chest heaving as he rested his forehead against the dirty metal for a second, cursing under his breath.
He looked up after a second, studying the human fully for the first time. Female, young, one of those stupid hats that almost looked like the ones the fourth incarnation of The Doctor had worn...
"Disgusting," he commented, not at her, but at the state of their surroundings, and himself. His clothes were covered in muck, as was his hair, and his hands. He also smelled burning, and a quick (and vertigo inducing) inspection of his coat reveled that it was singed in some places.
In addition to his appearance, his knees shook more and more the longer he stood. What was he to do? He couldn't just limp around Earth, a scraggly, disheveled version of the most murderous Prime Minister in history. That was when, as usual, he was struck with a brilliant idea. He didn't even need a disguise for this one, just some puppy dog eyes and a bit more knee-shaking as he suddenly locked eyes with the girl, and said as innocently as possible, "I have no idea where I am."

Irene's heart instantly melted. "You're in Atlanta, Georgia." She said softly. Something was definitely wrong with this guy. He smelled nothing of alcohol, which meant he was probably a mental patient. "We are only a couple blocks from my apartment, how about you come home with me and I can get you some clean clothes and food?" A little voice in the back of her head screamed at her that she was a stupid, stupid girl. She suppressed that voice, and slipped off her black jacket, putting it over his shoulders. Her gray tank top underneath had gotten damp from lifting the wet man, as had her skinny jeans. Not like she really minded, since it was for a good cause

- Aw, how sweet. What was with humans and always taking such pity on the downtrodden? On Gallifrey the downtrodden were trodden on. It was even in the name! But, he had to keep up appearances, so he widened his eyes, mouth forming a surprised 'o' at her unexpected offer and the jacket being wrapped around his shoulders.
"Are you sure?" he asked, pulling the jacket around himself as he dared to take his first small step without support. It worked in his favor, and he stood there, looking as lost as a grown man could as he continued, "I wouldn't want to be any trouble than I've aleady been." He gave her an apologetic smile, for he was oh so sorry for glaring at her and being overall quite rude up into this point.

"It's no problem at all. Here, follow me." Irene walked slow to make sure he could keep up. As soon as she got inside, she would put some soup on the stove, give him a change of clothes, and call the local institution. Her apartment was on the fifth floor. She put the key in the door and swung it open. The place was simple: A small living area, two bedroom s, a kitchen and a bathroom. "Please feel free to grab some clothes from in there." She pointed at a room that had a neatly made bed that had obviously not been used for months. Men's clothes hung up on the closet racks

{ occ: sorry, i fell asleep! }
- The Master was still shaky on his feet. That wasn't part of the act. He grimaced with every step, but he made it up the stairs and into her tiny apartment. For a moment he watched her put on the soup and make a call. The police? No, the police weren't a concern of his. Even in this state he was confident that he could escape them if they came.
So, he followed her pointing finger towards one of the bedrooms, stepping inside and nudging the door closed. It was simple, and definitely not hers. After rummaging through the closet for a moment he pulled on a simple black t-shirt and a pair of gray sweatpants, clumsily pulling the drawstring tight. Whoever owned them was either much fatter or much taller than he was. Neither was a hard thing to be.
He nudged the door back open, stepped into her living room, and sat on the couch, tilting his head back to look at the ceiling and closing his eyes. "Thank you," he said after a moment, opening one eye to see what she was doing.

The institution insisted no one was missing, but told her just to bring him down if she felt it was really necessary. Irene sighed and put down the phone. "No need to thank me. I have nothing better to do." She stirred the pot on the stove. "I hope chicken noodle is okay. I haven't gone shopping in a while." She opened the fridge afterwards and pulled out a bottle of water, holding one out as an offering for him. "Here, drink this." 'I really have gone nuts' She mused silently. Irene had always been a compassionate person, but to go as far as letting a stranger stay in her home was unusual even for her.
No worries, when life calls, one must answer))

- Chicken noodle. That sounded gross, but The Maser felt like he hadn't eaten in weeks. Maybe he hadn't. The idiosyncrasies of interdimensional and temporal travel were very odd and very difficult to understand, even for a genius like him. He was so busy thinking that he didn't even notice the bottle of water being held in front of his face until she spoke. He glanced up, gave her a thin lipped smile, and took it.
"You don't even know my name."
He cracked the seal, placed the cap on the table, and downed half of the bottle in one large gulp, wiping his mouth with his sleeve as he stared at her. Her hair was purple. He hadn't noticed before. Humans really were weird.

Irene noticed his look at touched her hair. "It's fading isn't it? I had planned to go to the salon to get it redone but the wallet doesn't like that idea too much." She laughed in an attempt to lower the tension. "And oh yea I forgot to even ask about that, you surprised me so much! I'm Irene, and you?" Bowls clinked as she reached up in the cabinet and took them down, pouring two decent sized portions into each and placing a spoon into it.

- "No," he replied, putting on a lopsided grin that felt as stupid as it probably looked, "it looks fine." He sipped on his water, which quelled a bit of the residual pain that lingered in his body. As he swallowed he rubbed the palm of one of his hands over his chest, trying to work out some of the tension there. Getting hurled through the void would certainly do a number on anyone, even a man like him, who took so much pride in being invincible.
The bowls clinking drew his gaze back to her. Irene. "Will," he introduced, taking a page out of The Doctor's book and picking out one of the blandest, most commonly used names that he could think of, "nice to meet you, Irene."

Irene set one bowl on the counter. "Are you hurt?" She slipped inside the bathroom, coming out with a black bag with a red cross on it. "I took a couple medical classes back in high school, let me have a look at you." She took a stethoscope out of the bag and placed ear pieces in her ear

- For a moment, The Master panicked. His first thought was to attack, knock her out and get out of here, go somewhere, but he was far too weak to do any of that. Instead, he leaned away, channeling his panic into looking very afraid as the medical bag appeared and she took out a stethoscope. Her discovering his double heartbeat just wouldn't do.
"No, uh, I'm fine," he said, holding up both hands and cringing, arms blocking all access to his chest, "please, I don't like doctors." Make eye contact, break it, lean a bit farther back into the couch cushion, look really scared. He did these things in that order, trying to elicit pity from the woman. If she pitied him, thought that something terrible had happened, she wouldn't bother him with trying to check his heart and lungs or whatever.

Irene clicked her tongue. "I'm not a doctor now am I?" She smiled warmly. "It's okay I promise I won't hurt you. I just want to make sure you aren't injured. That or I could take you to the hospital if I make you anxious." She was genuinely worried for him now.

Post by exxus on Jun 27, 2017 13:55:14 GMT -5
- "I'm not! I'm not injured!" he said, making his voice sound more frantic, pitching it up as he shook his hands at her, taking a deep, steadying breath before continuing, "can I please just eat?"
And finally The Master let his voice break, the cherry on top.
In all actuality, the panic in his voice was being derived from the panic he actually felt. He didn't want to feel it. He would barely even admit to himself that it was there, burrowed into both of his hammering hearts. But, there was no amount of pretending that could make him un-afraid.

She raised her hands, defeated. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to pressure you." Irene sighed and brought him a bowl. "People tell me I need to stop being so pushy." She glanced at the open room she earlier told Will to get clothes from. Shaking her head to clear it, she slapped a smile back onto her face. "Please stay as long as you need, okay?"

- The Master's body visibly relaxed as she relented, putting the stethoscope down. He took the soup from her as she brought it, almost greedily, shoving a large spoonful into his mouth a second later and not really caring that it burned. He ate as she continued to talk, glancing up with the spoon halfway to his open mouth at her invitation. He paused, and then gave her a small smile and a quick, "Thank you," before he continued eating.
"Does someone else live here?" he questioned, taking note of her glance towards the room. They certainly weren't her clothes.
