(Wow I'm sorry y'all. Moving in and Rush week had me exhausted every day!! I'll get into a grove soon, don'tcha worry)
Jolene nodded, her eyes wide in display of her awe. "My stars, I could never imagine teaching myself magic." Being taught by two generations of dragon slayers, and the very old dragon himself, the country girl never really had to learn by herself. Now that she was away from home, of course, she needed to learn how to actually use her powers in a practical setting, but that was different. Jolene would've told her partner who taught her magic, but she had been hesitant to tell anyone that she was a dragon slayer. She hasn't even told Sebastian. It was a lost magic, and those who controlled it were supposed to be much more powerful than she appeared. "My mother and her mother taught me." She said with a smile, sitting straight in her seat and brushing some red hair behind her ear.

You're fine Dove! Don't worry about it.))
Rika felt a pang of jealousy at the information she was given by her temporary teammate. "Lucky you..." she mumbled. That girl hadn't known the pain of loss. Couldn't be more evident. At least if she had, she didn't show it at all, which was impressive within itself. If it was true, it would probably be the only thing impressive so far. Rika had lost her mother within her first decade. Her mother had been around slightly more than her father. Only slightly, but it was enough in her eyes. She'd actually gotten to meet her mother, learn who she was. Unlike her father, who she only really heard stories about. Even when he'd been at her side right after the incident, she'd learned almost nothing about him. Not that she cared anymore. She hated the old man. For good reason too. This was just more evidence that she and Jolene were opposites. Jolene was close with her large family, while Rika barely had one and was as far away as possible from the one remaining member. She kept her gaze out of the window, not wanting to look at the girl across from her.

timeskip it is c: his guns are fine ~ gotta admit im a sucker for the gunner magic,, its pretty dope)
She paused as they came to the crux of the hill. The sun was setting between the mountain range and the sky had faded from its blue to the rosy red of summer evenings. The light was thick and golden, and felt warm on Dorian, a welcome relief to her exhausted body. Soliksary had vanished behind them hours ago, and a new little town was just on the horizion; a fishing port, the last stand between land and ocean. The very first stars were appearing, clearly seen due to lack of cloud in the sky. In her younger (broke) days, on a nice night like this, Dorian would've forsaken paying for lodgings and found a bush to curl up under. But now she had money to spare and a reputation to uphold, so a tavern it would be. In the tranquility of the moment, she almost forgot why she was there but remembered the job ahead, "That's the mountain in question," She nodded to a dark mountain to the east, still capped with snow despite the weather, "Crawling with vulcanes, apparently. But we can get to it tomorrow." She turned away from the ominous landmass and back towards the inviting little town. The light started to flicker on in windows, and she became conscious that the same would be happening back home. "As for now, let's find somewhere to sit down." She rubbed the back of her neck, tugging down her collar at the back a little to get at it, "If I have to walk much more, I'm going to start levelling these hills."
Khione flopped down on the ground, fingers stained with purple juices. She'd shouldered her coat back on a while ago, as the sun set and the evening got chillier, and had paid the price in the form of dirty cuffs. Hopefully there was someone back home with magic washing up powers. Odds were in her favour for that being true. She had two considerable sized baskets beside her, filled to the brim with those forsaken berries (she never wanted to see another one as long as she lived) and eyed them with open malice, "You know what? I hate fruit. I'm officially anti fruit." If she hadn't spent so long picking the berries she would've gotten up and kicked one of the baskets, but as it was, her legs ached and she settled for simply hoping they felt bad. "From now on I'm going to live off jelly sweets and raw fish. If anyone comes near me with a piece of fruit I'm gonna-" She splayed her hands out in front of her skywards, but all that came out was a pitiful little shower of sleet, as opposed to her fluffy flakes earlier. "Boo. Look Nova, look what it's done to me. It's taken my magic." She gently took the skull off the top of her head so she could lean right back against the grass, exposing her face fully for once. "If we die out here, do you think they'll hold a berry themed funeral?" The old woman appeared around the corner again, looking like she'd worked as hard as they had at something else, but not nearly as tired. Her arms were leathery and wrinkled, but very strong, as she hefted up wooden crates full of vegetables, "You girls done, then?" She called, setting her cargo down. She spotted someone else, someone who hadn't been there earlier, and didn't bother hiding her suspicion, "And you invited a friend around, I see."

Isis kept walking a couple of steps before she realized Dorian had stopped. She came to a stop herself and looked back at her, raising an eyebrow. She wondered why the master had just stopped, not saying anything. Once she spoke, Isis followed her gaze to look towards the mountain. "Whoa. That's like, an evil looking mountain. Hard to not think it's swarming with monsters at this point." She noticed Dorian walking finally and followed her, catching up to walk by her side once more. "If you leveled the whole mountain and brought those vulcans to us, I wouldn't argue. A lot less walking." She grinned a bit. "That would make this job slightly easier." She was joking of course. Though even if Dorian did, she would still fight off all the vulcans. She was never one to back down from a fight, especially when it was the job to fight. How boring would jobs be if you could avoid fights that were in the description? The answer was extremely. Almost pointless.
Nova was equally tired, sitting on the ground and panting softly. Between her and Virgo, they'd managed to get five baskets full. Virgo had actually done really well, but that was probably cause she was a spirit. She'd even grabbed Nova a coat from the Celestial World and come back on her own magic when it started getting cold. She glanced over at Khione as she started complaining. Nova would have said it was an overreaction, but she was too tired to even ask Vulpe to say something. In fact, the fox had fallen asleep a while ago. She watched as she failed a spell, then took her skull off. She blinked in surprise, using this chance to study the other girl's face. She'd never actually seen her without the skull, and wondered why she would wear one. She jumped a bit when the woman who had hired them spoke. She looked over, tapping Vulpe. The fox grumbled and looked over. Nova quickly told her what the woman had said, then told her what to say in response. "This girl is a Celestial mage! Me and the maid are spirits. She's just using her magic, leave her alone." Nova would have given her a look, but Vulpe had literally just woken up and she couldn't blame her for being a bit grumpy. She looked over to Virgo, giving her a smile and a nod. Virgo bowed, understanding what it meant. "It was a pleasure to help you, princess." She then turned into light and vanished.

I have Farrel, and maybe Manus bc silver hasn't been on the forums in a while ~ who would you prefer?)
"I'm not changing eons-old geography just so you don't have to walk uphill." Dorian responded, glad of the downward slope of the path as they drew into the town. It wasn't as big as their own one, but it was just as busy, as fishermen and travellers poured in and out. There were no short supply of taverns either, but it was good luck to ignore the first two you passed, so she did. There were mages in this town too, of course, but there was more of a mix as they came to the docks, and she wasn't aware of any Yellow Moon mages that would be here today. All in all, it was mainly civilian, so the two women earned some odd looks from the people they passed, who were dressed a lot more sensibly. There was a thatched roof building with warmly lit windows, and Dorian was too tired to keep looking, so she headed towards it. Looks like they served food, smelt like it too. The tavern was packed to the brim, just her luck, but was dry and comfortable, and the little sign by the desk read 'ROOMS AVAILABLE' Dorian turned to Isis, "Are you going to do the polite, honorable thing and pay for my lodgings? I am your poor, long suffering master after all." She teased, opening up the collar of her cloak. It was roasting in here with all the bodies, so she folded the collars down, freeing up some air around the bottom half of her face. It was a gamble she wasn't overly comfortable with, her anxiety already telling her people were staring, but she soldiered on with all the same. "A gentleman would pay for me."
Khione sat upright when the woman appeared, ignoring the burn in her thighs this gave her. Without her skull on, her eyes looked big and brown, she had tiny red indents on either side of nose, like she'd been wearing glasses. She pushed herself off the ground and wiped grass from her trousers, nodding along to whatever Vulpe was saying, "We picked all your berries. Well, most of them." She admitted, glancing over her shoulder, "The vast majority of them. At least 87% of your berries are in our baskets." Her own two baskets looked a little limp compared to Nova's five, so she dragged them over to stand beside her friend's as quickly as she could (it wasn't that quickly, because they were, in all fairness, pretty heavy.), they'd look stronger as a whole. She grabbed the deer skull on the ground and held it to her chest like a gentleman might hold his hat when he was bowing, "Thank you for hiring us." She thought that would be a good thing to add, if they were going to get that tip, they needed to be charming, and Nova was sweet, but she little fox could run it's mouth at time, so Khione figured she could be charming for both of them. The farm lady was not charmed, per say, but she was impressed by the amount of berries collected. She walked over to get the baskets a quick inspection and then nodded her head, "Thank you girls, that's a big help." She dug into her pockets and pulled out their pay, dumping half of it into Nova's hand, and half of it into Khione's. "Now, hurry back home, wherever you live. Getting dark, the mountains can be tricky once the sun sets." As ever, a woman of few words, she turned then and headed back towards her own house

Isis shrugged slightly. "It never hurts to ask, you know." She glanced around as people stared at them, smirking. She liked the attention, and she actually thought it was quite funny that all these people thought they looked strange. They were clearly mages. She didn't think that normal people dressed this wild. Only mages did, really. They were exotic through their use of magic, so they might as well look the part. She noticed Dorian finally moving into a tavern and followed her in. A quick glance around showed how packed the place was. Rooms available? Probably not very many. She looked at Dorian as she spoke, raising an eyebrow. "Well I'm not a man, and I'm far from gentle." She winked at the master. "Since I doubt you'll let this go, I'll pay for you." She walked up to the counter and waved down the person in charge. "I need a room. And a drink."
Nova accepted her pay with a nod, since she couldn't exactly bow right now. She fished her coin purse out and poured her earnings into it. At least she had something. She managed to stand, her face one of pain from the soreness of her body. She would groan if she could make sounds. She nodded to the woman again as she mentioned getting home. Luckily they had a fox spirit who could guide them home if it got too dark. As the woman left, she started to walk towards the way they'd come. She glanced over at Khione, and posed a question for Vulpe to ask. The fox glanced at her, then turned her yellow eyes on the snow mage. "Nova wants to know why you wear the skull thing. Since, you know, you look so cute without it." The fox smirked as Nova blushed and clearly started yelling at her telepathically for saying more than she wanted.

Feeling a bit awkward, Jolene sat back up, tucking her hands away in her lap, picking slightly at the worn fabric of her skirt. Taking the curt replies as her cue to stop talking, the southern belle decided to leave Rika alone. Well, as alone as one could while sharing an enclosed space. Perhaps she could get up and leave her? No, this was really only Jolene's second time on a train, and she would prefer to not move from her spot. So, the girl just let herself get lost in thought, allowing her partner to do the same, since that seemed to be all she wanted. Thoughts of her family back home, her father, her magic, and Sebastian ran through her mind as the train stopped. "Here?" She guessed.

"Behave yourself." Dorian warned, though there wasn't much bite behind her words, seeing as turning her collars down let her blush become visible. The person at the desk nodded, taking down Isis and Dorian's details. He didn't blink twice at them, unlike the people in the street, as he was used to all sorts of weirdos drifting in for lodgings. "Your room's ready when you want it," He handed her a key, "The bar's that way. Just follow the loud noise." He thumbed to his left, indicating to the loud, muffled cacophony of sounds behind the door. Dorian hung back, walking one step behind Isis, on edge around a large group of strangers. She could handle noise and ruckus around her own people, but these were all strangers. They made her feel 12 again, she had to remind herself that she wasn't, and that this fear of social interaction was bordering on highly irrational. She ducked slightly entering the bar, the tip of her hat brushing the doorframe all the same and knocking it slightly over the front of her face. Annoyed, she pushed it back to where it should be, "There are a lot of things not perfect about our guildhall," she muttered, "But high doorframes isn't one of them. Why aren't they all the height of the ceiling? It just makes sense." To her, maybe, considering her height and the extra leverage of her hat, but this wasn't something Dorian was willing to take an equalist view on. All doors should be bigger. Period. The room was jammed full and the noise was deafening at first, causing her to wince away, pressing closer to the wall. All the same, she gingerly removed her cloak for once, feeling stifled by the heat. Taking it off felt odd, but it didn't make her lighter. She only felt heavy and exposed as she draped it over her arm. As per usual, her shirt lay unbuttoned three buttons down, revealing her guild mark and her sternum, and her shirt sleeves were rolled up to her elbows, her now exposed skin cringing whenever air touched it. "Seeing as you were so kind to pay for accommodation, drinks are on me. Within reason." Yellow Moon mages could really throw back beer when they wanted to.
Khione grinned down at her pay, the little money grabber in her rearing it's head with pleasure. Life was full of nice things, yes, things that were good, and pure, and made you a better person, but she didn't feel like it was a bad thing to enjoy the sight of money. Why be ashamed of being able to support your own lifestyle? She rolled her bag off her shoulder and popped her pay into the little pouch on the inside lining, enjoying the noise it made. Suddenly, her pessimistic view on fruit vanished into thin air, maybe it wasn't so bad after all. Her legs even hurt a little less. Needless to say, Khione's mood was instantly improved. She turned back towards the woods they'd came through, but stopped when Vulpe spoke, blushing at the question, "Oh, um, I guess I've just always worn it." She admitted, staring down at it in her hands (because that was easier then staring at Nova right now.) "I used to wear it during my act in the circus, back before I joined the Guild." She explained, turning it over in her hands with a shrug, "I can't remember not having it. It's not a very interesting story," She grinned, embarrassed, "But it's all I got, I'm afraid." She paused, shuffling her feet, unable to fight the smile that was slowly growing, "Buuuuuttt if I look cute without it.." She trailed off, leaving the statement hanging. Truth be told, she liked the anonymity of it, having half her face covered was a good way to keep people guessing. Master Teratoid did it, right? Khione had heard rumors as to why that was, but they weren't very pleasant, so she choose to believe that it was simply a personal choice. It was like a superhero's mask, a trademark. All the most famous mages had trademarks. They weren't all bleached deer skulls, but hey, points for originality? She rocked back and forth on her heels, "Then maybe I should take it off more often." she shrugged again, this time with a hint of mischief, finishing her earlier statement. "Coming from you, Nova, or at least, Vulpe I guess, being called cute is a high compliment. You're pretty winsome yourself." There was a bit of nervous laughter at the end of her statement, and her blush picked up a bit more. Thanks the stars it was getting darker, so the lighting so a bit obscured. "We should- um, probably be heading back now. You know. Back home." She nodded towards the path.
Farrell fluttered by, lightning a candle as he went. It was getting dark, but the hall was filling up at last. He passed Nick, noting his dinner, "Busy day?" He asked, head tilted, "Or just, really hungry?"

"The usual." He swept his arm in an arc to indicate to the bar, "Cleaning. You guys are disgusting, seriously, why is this place always so dirty?" He shook his head as he made his way around the back of the bar, putting glasses off the drying rack and back onto shelves, "It's like cleaning up after fifty toddlers."

Sorry I've been absent. Busy with stuff. Sadly work starts again tomorrow, so that should be fun...))
Rika couldn't believe she'd basically found her opposite using a similar magic to her. She doubted anyone would understand just how hard her life was. They didn't understand a life where magic ruined their lives, and then was taken from said life. She had to fight to have magic be in her life again. After all, she didn't blame all magic. Just Light magic. Who knew something that was supposedly pure could be so evil? That was why she used Shadow Make magic. Something dark, that was supposedly evil, made into a tool for the good and protection of people. She was going to prove to everyone what she'd already proven to her father: magic wasn't evil. It's amazing, and it's sad when used by people with ill intentions. It's no reason to take magic out of your life though. She was shaken from her thoughts by Jolene finally speaking again. She blinked and glanced at her, then actually looked outside. "No. One more stop. Shouldn't be much longer."
Isis took the key and slipped it away, dropping some jewels on the counter as a down payment. Just in case she destroyed something in a fight. Cause the bar? Perfect place to test her strength against some cocky drunk people. She immediately headed that way as soon as the key was tucked away somewhere safe, glancing back at Dorian. "You know, you can make the doorway bigger. If, you know, you manage to not turn the whole building into a doorway." She grinned and looked forwards, eyes scanning the area. So far, nothing yet. But someone was going to make a move eventually. She just needed some drinks in her first. "Oh, you really shouldn't have said that master~" she said with a gleeful smirk towards the older woman. She then moved quickly to the bar, ordering one of their stronger drinks. She needed to get a move on if she wanted an excuse for when someone made a mistake.
Nova listened to Khione carefully, nodding a bit. She wasn't going to stop Khione from wearing it, she was just curious. Her blush continued, even deepening slightly, when Khione returned the compliment that Vulpe had given in her stead. She was also glad that it was getting darker. Until Vulpe had to open her mouth again. "Aw, young love is so adorable." She immediately bopped the fox on the head again. "Quiet you!" The fox wasn't even mad, snickering softly. Nova huffed softly and started to move down the path back towards town. She hoped the fox wouldn't say anymore embarrassing things before they got back. Her face could only get so red after all.

(you're good! im sorry you gotta start work again haha maybe you should switch to a new job??)
"All right," Jolene nodded, tucking some hair behind her ear. Feeling very awkward, she began to study miscellaneous things very closely, such as observing the stitching of her sweater, or staring at the book cover the old man a small ways down was reading, or stealing glances at Rika, looking intently at her face. The redhead didn't mean to be creepy or anything, she just admired Rika's beauty. Besides, what else was she to do when the only person she knew wasn't talking to her. Perhaps she could make friends with a stranger on the train, but Jolene was feeling too exhausted lately to keep up her social image.

There's no way I'd be able to find a better job right now. XD I'm just letting everyone know cause I'll be gone all day and get home super tired.))
Rika could feel Jolene looking at her, and sighed heavily. Alright, she was being extremely rude. Not Jolene, her. That was how she was, but silently begging to be on a team was a contradiction when all she did was ignore and be rude to the one person that had finally gotten on a team with her. She turned her head to face Jolene, the scar on the right side of her face now visible. "Alright, what is it?" She tried to sound nice, but really just sounded exasperated. Being nice was hard, she'd need a little bit more time before she could actually manage it. Besides, she'd literally met Jolene about an hour ago. They couldn't exactly be close friends already.

(i feel that)
Jolene blushed a little bit at being called out. "Oh, nothing! I apologize, I was just admiring how pretty you are." She answered truthfully with a pleasant smile. A little quieter now, she said "I'm sorry if my personality crashes so badly with your's. I'm just rather excited to prove myself on a job, you know? If there's anything I can do to, you know, make you not hate being around me," Jolene chuckled nervously, pleating her hair, "please tell me. I live to please other people, honest."

Rika raised an eyebrow at the sudden admission to thinking she was beautiful. She definitely hadn't been expecting that. She reached up, pushing her glasses up slightly, to rub at the bridge of her nose. "Look. I understand you're excited. Just...don't get personal. We're not that close." She lowered her hand to look at Jolene again. "I'm not a nice person. I'll admit that. But asking so many personal questions in a row made me uncomfortable. Just keep that in mind." She glanced out the window again. "You won't make many friends if you don't take it a little slower." That was how she viewed things. It was hard to become friends with someone instantly. It took time to figure out how the other person acted, thought about things, and what they liked. It was better to find more connections, other than a simple one like similar magic.

"Particular?" He asked, sliding the drink down to the lady at the end of the bar, "No more so then usual. Monsters. Rogue mages. Little cats with wings. The pasta restaurant downtown is having a 'special occasions' deal though," He laughed, "Might book myself in for a special dinner just for me."
it's cool scorch!)
Dorian had a feeling that the moment she'd offered to get drinks she would regret it, but she was too far gone now, and though she was many things, she wasn't the kind to back down. Instead, she hung her cloak on a peg by the far-too-small-door and followed Isis across the room, doing her best to seem detached from the crowd instead of intimidated. It felt odd to be walking without her shepherd's crook, which she also left by the door, and she wasn't quite sure what to do with her hands at the moment. At the bar she ordered something frothy that burnt on the way down, but had to repeat it several times because the noise in the room seemed to have risen to absurd levels. Someone bumped into her back and she got pressed against the bar, muttering dark thunder. The suggestion to level the town was getting more and more attractive. Some light mage kept changing the colour of the room, reds and hot pinks dancing across the walls like there was no tomorrow. If these people weren't careful, there wouldn't be. When handed her drink, she tried to relax a bit, and turned to Isis, "Cheers." She raised her flask to clink against the other woman's, "Here's to quiet nights in." The scratching sarcasm in her tone was undercut by the tiny little foamy mustache her drink left on her upper lip.
The path was a lot less affable in the dark. She wasn't scared, per say, but that easy energy from earlier had faded. This part of the mountains was far from familiar to her once the sun set, and the trees all looked the same. Still, the path was easy enough to follow, they just had to stay close beside each other. Placing the skull back on top of her head, she walked closely beside Nova, making sure they didn't get separated. Occasionally their arms and hands brushed, and Khione was struck suddenly with the realisation of how easy it would be to put her arm around Nova's shoulders (if it wasn't for the snarky little spirit there, of course). The thought made her smile and she turned her face away to keep it hidden. Her legs and back ached from the day's work, but the pain was eased by the knowledge that they were heading home. "Oh yeah?" Instead of shying away from the fox' comments, Khione reared up to meet them, "And what would you know about love, vulpes vulpes?" She leaned forward to see her across Nova's shoulders, "Do spirits get sweethearts? Or do they just tease wise, and gentle, souls such as myself for fun?" She did her best to sound wounded, and even jutted out her lower lip in a pout. She couldn't imagine Vulpe being sweet on anyone, just less sarcastic, maybe. Perhaps that was as good as spirits got to love.

Isis watched Dorian with interest, having never really seen the master in a public setting outside of the guild. She definitely didn't seem comfortable. She noticed someone fall into Dorian's back and pushed them off with a glare of warning towards his friends. They seemed to take the hint and moved to the other side of the bar. Her grin returned as she clinked her mug to Dorian's. "Cheers, master!" She downed the rest of her drink and ordered another one. "Quiet nights? Boring! It's only fun if you get in at least one fight!" She grabbed her new drink as it was set down and took a large swig. She was already starting to feel the effects of the liquid, her cheeks turning pink. "Come on master, you have to admit you're having at least a tad bit of fun?"
Nova didn't notice her arm or hand brushing against Khione's as she was still trying to recover from her embarrassment at Vulpecula's paws. The fox looked over at Khione, yellow eyes glowing in the dark. The mischievous glint in her eyes was very obvious like this. "Spirits know a lot more about love than most humans. We've been around for a while, and have a lot of experience. Spirits can have relationships too. Aquarius and Scorpio have been a thing for a couple decades now. Leo and Aries have had feelings, but neither have done anything about it. So yeah, we know a bit about love." She tilted her head at the young snow mage. "Why? Do you think you know more?" She wasn't going to admit she loved Nova like family, that would put her on the back foot for once, and she never wanted to be there.

Nick turned around again to face the bar " Pasta isn't something I can eat, not a real fan of it. Say what was that drink you tossed to that woman is that a new drink? what's the name of it? " Nick said staring at the glass the woman held.

(that reminds me that I need to figure out how I'm gonna get Jolene her exceed...I'm thinking it's going to be the barn kitten back home, if she ever revisits there... also I wanna rp Rowland super bad!! so if anyone wants to haha)
Jolene couldn't help but feel a little offended at Rika's remark. She was just being herself, and that had never failed her when trying to make friends before. Perhaps its because of the wide differences between the people of her hometown and the people who she now lived with. Clenching and relaxing her jaw, as she was prone to doing when feeling pangs of anxiety or nervousness, Jolene thought if it was possible for her to make friends here. She had made one, Sebastian, but she hadn't even been trying then...Deciding to only speak strictly of the job, she inquired, "Where do we go when we get there?"

I could always rp her exceed, have it show up as a random event? Or maybe Jolene saves her from something? Also, I forgot what we were doing as the job for these two. XD))
Rika glanced over at Jolene, noting that she didn't like what she had said. Welcome to the real world. That was what she wanted to say, but she needed to try and be nice. Try, being the operative term. "Sorry. But not everyone is going to be happy and super accepting of your normal attempts to make friends. Just know that." She wasn't a nice person, she knew that, but she had a reason. She hadn't had a happy moment in her life since she was eight years old. Even before that, she didn't have very many. She turned fully to Jolene when it turned to business. "We have to go through town. We'll have to figure out a plan once we get there, since we don't know what things will look like when we get there."

(YESSSS GIRL WASSUP nah it's cool I wanna rp her exceed. Oh, they we're getting something back for a client I think// supposed to be Sneaky and stuff, but theres a lot of low level enemies)
Nodding, Jolene was uneasy with the thought of not really having a plan. Of course, it was impossible to plan out something of which you had no clue how it would go down. It wasn't like back home, where she knew what needed to be done every day at every hour; that was always so comforting for her. She loved repetition in daily schedules. "Alright. I really wish there had been more information on the flyer."
