“I think… if it’s not, then it would be, without us,” Orpheus admitted. “Whatever it is, it can clearly think at least similarly to how humans do, and since humans wouldn’t be who we were without interaction with other humans… I think it’s very possible that the House is lonely without other people. I don’t think there are others like it, but I guess I can’t say that for sure.” It was easy enough to speculate about the House, but there was no way to know what it actually thought. If Orpheus could figure that out, he might be a few steps closer to making it even. He let out a soft breath, shaking his head a little before he glanced back at the house and pulled a bright red candy from the top of the roof line. “Thanks for warning me,” he added, grateful that he had chosen a candy that wasn’t the same as the one Eurydice had picked. It seemed they had similar taste in sweets, if only because they were used to the same types of sweets. “I hope this one is better.” “I’d like to see some of your animals,” Zuko admitted with a small shrug. He only knew what his animals were, and it was hard to picture what certain animals would look like if they had parts of them changed. He knew how off-putting it was that the Earth King had a pet bear (he had never seen the creature himself, but Iroh had told him of its existence). “I can sort of guess what a tiger would look like on your world, because we have tigerdillos and tiger monkeys, and they look fairly different, at least the parts that have orange stripes… but the rest of your animals… I have no idea what a chicken would look like if it’s not a komodo chicken.” He shook off the thought, looking on the table for something that looked like it might be ice cream, but he didn’t see any. Maybe it would be on the other end with Hook and his little gaggle of people that didn’t seem too happy about his presence. Or maybe Zuko was just reading his own dislike into the situation… “It’s a Fire cake,” Zuko replied, brow raising just a little as he waited to see how Sal would like it.

Sal Fisher | Valentine’s Room | striderSal couldn’t imagine most of the creatures Zuko had mentioned. He wanted to, but he knew it was probably hard for them both to picture what different versions of the animals they were so familiar with would be like. “If you ever get a chance to blink in with a picture of a tigerdillo, I’d be so grateful,” he told him. “But…yeah. It’s interesting that they’re so similar but not the same.” He gave the cake a long look, trying to guess how it would taste. The name didn’t surprise him - he had yet to hear about much in Zuko’s home that wasn’t fire related somehow - but it also meant Zuko probably hadn’t been kidding about the spice. He shrugged and carefully set the fork down, adjusting his prosthetic just enough to make eating possible, as long as it wasn’t anything too fragile. Then he took a small, careful bite. “Oh, damn…that’s actually really good,” he said finally, pleased at the discovery. “It is kind of spicy, but…in a nice way. It balances the sweetness a little.”

“I’ll do my best,” Zuko replied after a moment, though he had no idea where he was going to get an image of a tigerdillo. Maybe when Uncle Iroh got sidetracked and led them into some sort of coastal antique store or something… it happened often enough, though Zuko had never looked through the shops for anything of his own. He was certain if he started looking he could find some sort of image or sculpture of a tigerdillo. Maybe a sculpture would even be better… Zuko watched the way Sal adjusted the prosthetic, letting his own thoughts peter off into nothing. How much time and practice had it taken for Sal to be able to so seamlessly adjust the prosthetic so nobody could see what lay behind it? “Isn’t it?” Zuko asked, lips twisting up almost triumphantly. “It’s one of my favorite foods from back home, but they don’t serve it very many places. And the places that do serve it in the Earth Kingdom make it incredibly bland, so it’s not even worth eating.”

| Eurydice | Valentine's Day Room | Orpehus | "Now, hold on, I want to see what you think of those ones." Eurydice protested, her tone light and joking. "If I had to eat one, it's only fair that you try one as well." She picked a red candy similar to the one he chose though, to match.

Shade | Valentines room | ~∂єѕтιиу mostly, and ice and rain Both her ears flattened briefly, and when Shade saw her companions expression she chuckled again, timing her own sip of the drink so that it was in sync with his, for maximum.... intimidation, she supposed. Playful intimidation, of course. She settled her attention on the pair before them, glancing only briefly at Hook with a nod and a wink, a new grin spreading over her features. "Since we're here, may as well enjoy it to the fullest, don't you think?" she said slowly, taking another deliberate sip. Thoughtfully, she tipped her cup to and fro to swirl the drink around as her gaze started to wander, and she grinned wider. "I wonder if theres any sort of... couple games, we could play. I mean, I can think of plenty but I don't want to tread on the houses toes," she said to whoever would be listening, mainly Hook.

Touka | Valentines day room | well this should be fun |
"Of all the rooms I could have blinked into..." said Touka, exasperated. She watched Rex greet Shade, watched Shade and hook joke about the two of them, promptly decided to get her feelings hurt over that, and sat back down at the table, fiddling with one of the decorations. She was surprised at how fast Hook had flipped her mood, and felt a little annoyed with herself for letting that happen. He could tell she was pissed, and he was probably going to start needling her about it, and she really wasn't in the mood for that.

Sal Fisher | Valentine’s Room | striderIt was easy to forget that pictures were probably harder to find in other worlds. At least, from what Sal knew of Zuko’s technology, he’d have been very surprising if they had cameras. But he really did want to know what a tigerdillo would look like. He was trying to picture it, but he was fairly sure what he was imagining wasn’t accurate. “Well, don’t let this opportunity slip by, then,” he replied, pushing the cake back towards Zuko. “You have to tell me if this is the real thing. I’m going to be so disappointed if it’s the bland version.” He turned back to the table, giving the other desserts a long look. He had a feeling most of the ones that came to mind would be too sweet for Zuko’s tastes, but there had to be something there he’d like. “You know, it’s funny, but usually when you combine sweet and not sweet in the foods I’m used to, it’s not really considered a sweet anymore,” he noted. “But…okay, not exactly spicy, but I bet you’d like this.” He shifted, reaching to drag what he’d seen closer. “Cinnamon apple pie.”

Hook | Valentines Room | double date crew
Hook kept a sly smirk on his face, watching irritation on Touka’s face and the (frankly) endearing confusion on Rex’s. He hummed at Shade again, probably finding the amusement of the situation through slightly more malicious intentions - but he mostly found joy in the comments and expressions being passed back and forth between him and her.
He raised his eyebrows at Shade’a suggestion, not knowing what she had in mind but playing along anyways. Based on her grin, it would be enjoyable. “F[oop] the House,” he said loudly with a sharp laugh, “besides, we’re here cause it wants us to have a good time, what are you thinkin’?”

[[ mordecai || enemy room || strider ]] Mordecai’s gaze swept over the newcomer again as he listened to Zuko, nodding slightly as he did so. “Yes, I… I believe that to be the case...” The person before them being a creation of the House’s would explain the energy- perhaps they seemed like part of the room because that was exactly what they were. Or at least he hoped that was the case. Sort of like an illusion, but given a physical form? The shade tensed as the ground shifted beneath his feet. Apparently Zuko hadn’t been exaggerating about them trying to pull the ground out from under them. His grip tightened on the hilt of his sword, his gaze never leaving the person before them. Not a real person, he reminded himself, Just think of them as another shade... No one will miss them, not even themself. The sword’s blade seemed to materialize as he drew it, jet black with dark tendrils twisting around it like whisps of smoke. Golden energy twisted its way over the gloved fingers of his other hand as he watched the threat draw closer still. He would have preferred to use less conspicuous weapons since Zuko was there but he didn’t really have any, and considering their opponents abilities he suspected he would need to use more obvious magic anyway and hope that the other blinker wouldn’t recognize it for what it was. “Yes,” he replied under his breath.

Aesop Carl blinked in, almost stumbling as he did. He seemed to have issues catching ahold of any chair or table in the living room before he fell over, but eventually his hand slapped against the back of something. He pulled himself to a standing position, looking around, grey eyes trying to make sense of what he was seeing. Nothing looked familiar, that was for sure, but he found himself tensing up anyway. He certainly did not trust random rooms and he was going to be any more distrustful if someone suddenly appeared. He glanced around, but didn't at once see anything he was supposed to do. So instead, he made a shuffling tip-toe toward the only door. Best to get out of here.

Rowlin was already on the ground criss cross apple sauce, refurbishing a mirror when he took a blow to the head from what felt like an aggressive slap that forced him to stumble forward and fall onto the mirror he was working on. There was a large thump on the ground, especially from the mirror that now sounded like crackling sounds as the vampire pushed himself away from the item he fell over, which now contained cracks. The mirror was about the size of a 24 inch poster, to which Rowlin quickly pushed himself off of, and checked himself for damage.
Aside from a few scrapes, he stood up realizing he had blinked into the house given the sudden lack of sunlight from this room. His hand naturally shifted to the back of his head, where the pain was still throbbing from whatever had just hit him. Slowly standing he looked down at the mirror further damaged, before wincing at the throbbing pain. “Well…” He shrugged in disappointment now looking around until his bright green gaze fell onto a tip-toe’ing Aesop Carl. He was now confused shown by his evident raised brow. “Did your teacher tell you the floor is lava?” He asked, based out of habit from a middle school teacher.

Aesop jumped even further at the noise - somehow having not noticed Rowlin. He at once scrambled away, looking him up and down very hurriedly and trying to keep away as best as possible. Then he relaxed. Very slowly. "Er ... no. Just ... not the most trusting of people, perhaps. Who are you?" His voice was slightly suspicious, but he was trying to make it sound more friendly than it had been before. He held out a white, gloved hand to shake. "Aesop Carl." All his limbs seemed to be kept as close to his body as possible. He briefly glanced down at the mirror, then asked, "Why a mirror? What does it do?" He couldn't really work out a better reason someone could carry around a mirror unless it did something beyond reflecting. It was broken now though. "What did it do, rather?" he corrected.

“Fine,” Orpheus laughed lightly, picking up one of the candy hearts and putting it to his lips. It was sweet, as everything in the room was (he didn’t understand how other worlds made things so sweet, nor why they would want to make things quite this sweet), but it was the texture that was fairly off putting. “It tastes… powdery. I don’t know, the texture is a lot more apparent than the taste.” Orpheus made a face, then forced himself to swallow. “That’s probably my least favorite thing I’ve tried so far here.” Zuko’s brow cocked as he looked at Sal, then took another look back at the fire cake. He gave a small smile, then took the fork and lifted a bit of it to his lips. He let his eyes close for just a moment as he took in the flavor, then gave a sharp nod of approval. “You’ll be pleased to know it’s spiced just the right amount. Not too heavy on the chili, but not too light, either. You get that hint of sweetness before the bite of the chili.” Zuko felt a little bit of redness creep up his cheeks – he didn’t know how much Sal actually wanted to know about the fire cake, but he had to admit that it was made well. It tasted like the ones he had grown up eating from the cooks in the Fire Nation palace. He couldn’t help but wonder if it was the same recipe, or if the House had pulled it straight from his childhood. “I can’t imagine sweets without any spice. But… I’d be open to trying some.” Zuko offered a small smile, then took a glance at the cinnamon apple pie. “It smells good.” He glanced down at where his hand was still clasping Sal’s. He took a moment to breathe before lightly extricating his hand so he could lift a piece of the pie onto one of the paper heart-shaped plates.

“Woah,” Zuko muttered under his breath as he saw Mordecai’s weapon. He had no idea what it was (other than the rather obvious fact that it was a sword), but he could tell it was powerful. Whatever Mordecai was, he wasn’t from Zuko’s world. He knew that already, but seeing the concrete proof of systems of magic from other worlds was always a bit jarring. Most of the people that Zuko met in the House either didn’t have any magic at all, or didn’t have much. This was almost a spectacle. He had to have at least a little bit of respect for it – it may not have been anything like firebending, but it was certainly impressive. Zuko didn’t have more than a moment to process it as he turned back to face their opponent. He knew they were an earthbender, but he didn’t know how powerful they were, or how much of the ground beneath them was really made of Earth. He had fought earthbenders before, but he had always known what his advantages were. In the House, it was much more difficult. At least he could count Mordecai as an advantage. “I’m going to try to get behind them,” Zuko hissed just loud enough for Mordecai to hear. “If you come at them from the front, we might be able to corner them, and then we can take them out.” Killing them felt cruel, even if they were manufactured by the House. Would there be some other way to beat them? Disarming was never enough for an earthbender unless there was some sort of metal cage available. The person moved their arms and another shockwave ran through the ground at Zuko’s feet. He needed to move fast. With a firm nod at Mordecai, Zuko took off past the enemy, hoping to cut them off from behind so they could work together to defeat them.

Hange | Living room | Aesop |
Hange Zoe blinked into the living room, midway through making a dramatic stroke across the wall with a piece of chalk.
"Utterly ridiculous!" they exclaimed fervently, before losing their balance, bouncing several steps on one foot, and dropping the chalk, where it promptly rolled under the couch and vanished.
"Eh?" they said, blinking around at their surroundings in momentary confusion. Then, they processed where they were, became bored(they knew the living room inside out), and knelt down, trying to fish their chalk out from underneath the couch.

While Hange was doing that, someone else blinked in. There was a clatter of a suitcase (it sounded a lot ... heavier than it likely was supposed to) and a hurried sound of cloth scraping against cloth as Aesop scrambled to pick it up. He took one look at Hange and bolted. Heading for the door. NOPE. Not dealing with people, thank you very much. Not him. Nope, nope, nope. Not risking that they were a hunter thank yoooooooooooooooooou. Add to that, he was already getting the familiar feeling in his chest and just nope. He had ... issues with the door. Most pointedly, he ran into it. He got to it eventually, jerked it open, and then held it that way while standing there, clearly ready to slam it in Hange's face.

Hange | Living room/hallway | Aesop |
WHOOM.
Hange's ears picked up the sound of fleeing footsteps, and in seconds they had chased him down, flying straight for him. They crashed straight through the door, smashing it to splinters, and grabbed Aesop's wrist, propelling the two of them forward into a wild tumble that ended with Hange directly on top of him, looming over him with fangs fully visible and eyes glowing a deep, foreboding red.

Aesop | Living Room / Hallway | Hange
Aesop's eyes squinted shut. Damn, damn, damn. His heart was going completely wild now. Not in a normal way either, which he couldn't exactly manage in this form, but in the 'early' warning system against things like this - things like Hange. And Hange certainly fit the bill. "Just do it," he hissed behind his off-white face mask. Fully prepared to 'die' and wake up again as himself in that damnable house. Good luck to Hange of course. Just because Aesop had a heart didn't mean Hange could hear it. At all. Only he could. And if he'd bothered to open his eyes, he would have seen it too, because the blasted thing was glowing - again. (One of those cartoon hearts, very clearly made of cloth, just below the surface of his chest, outlined in a purple glow.) What Hange COULD hear was heavy breathing. Where the breathing was coming from was anyone's guess. Aesop had literally no idea if he had a set of cloth lungs in this form, but he certainly sounded like he did. But good luck to Hange all around if they tried to bit a literal doll.

If Rowlin hadn’t picked up the mirror he would of crossed his arms in confusion. Trusting? the man ‘s green gaze only gleamed in further interest on the keen words chosen by Aesop. It was when the other man held out a hand to shake that he freed one hand, and pushed the mirror against his side to shake the newcomers hand. This was starting to feel like a meeting with admin, or a meeting with a parent. “Pleasure to meet you Mr. Carl, is it okay if I call you Aesop?” He asked politely back. “My name is Rowlin Skyzen” wait- am I using the right last name? Well… if not it’s fine Now returning both hands to the mirror he took the question then glanced at the mirror in disappointment. “Well.. it wasn’t cracked before, but the frame was rotting. So, I bought it from a second hand store, and was refurbishing it so that I can hang it in one of our offices.” He glanced at it once more in disappointment. “This mirror was also big enough for emergencies. Based on your question I take it you noticed something further.” He tried to smile but the dread of trying to repair the mirror itself, was overcoming his positivity. “This mirror has unique properties that can allow a user to walk right through it and travel to another mirror anywhere with the same properties.” He shrugged now “Granted it’s now cracked. Its still fixable but as it is now, unstable to travel through.”

Hange | Hallway | Aesop |
But just as quickly as Hange had shifted into a predator, their eyes flickered back from red to brown. They sat back, rubbing the back of their head, and watched Aesop, eyes wide with curiosity now instead of bloodlust.
"Ah, sorry!" they said cheerfully, apparently unaware of Aesop's distress entirely. "I'm Hange - ooooooooh.......you're not human? What are you? How are your eyes made of buttons? Can you see?? Why can't I hear your heartbeat? Why is your chest glowing? Is that instead of a heartbeat? Does that mean you have blood? Why can't I smell your blood???"

Aesop | Hallway | Hange
Heart still beating terribly fast, Aesop hesitated. People usually didn't talk to him. And at this he slowly raised his head. "Who are you then?" he asked, frowning under the mask. He then adjusted his position, sitting up and looking Hange over. "I am human," he insisted. "You're not." As if this was obvious. He continued to look at Hange in what could only be counted as incredulity, then squinted his eyes. Which in affect only looked like squished buttons. "You're a hunter," he said, "of course I can see and of course my eyes are buttons." He looked around, then said, "My blood?" He then reached up and pointed at a torn place on his shoulder. There was some fuzzy white stuff coming out. "Unless I'm very much mistaken, this is the best I have. Now ... what are you and what's this place? Another setting for the Game? Or is this the house?" For all he knew, Hange was new and, for lack of a better word, 'off duty.'

"Ahhh!" Aesop said, suddenly looking like he understood. He nodded. It seemed like something perfectly normal that someone would have a traveling mirror. "And yes, you're free to call me Aesop." He glanced at the mirror again. Hum. Pressing a hand against his chest, hesitantly, he eventually asked, "You're ... friendly then?" But of hard to say what he meant by that, but he seemed to be trying to keep his composure. It seemed to be alright, but verbal confirmation would be nice. "What's this place? I don't tend to appear in the same room as others."

Rowlin couldn't help but chuckle. Whether this new fella understood or not, it was an ice breaker. At the approval for Aesop he smiled now at the kind formality. "Well Aesop it is a pleasure to meet you." He repeated now, somewhat caught by the lad's fascination with the mirror. The next question caught him off guard. It wasn't a new question, rather an unexpected one in this situation. "Y-Yes?" He raised a brow a little tad confused himself by question. "I am friendly." He glimpsed at the mirror before glimpsing back at Aesop. He wasn't sure how else to answer the question, when only one thing came to mind. "I volunteer on my free-time to give back to the community..." Maybe not the statement needed in the moment but what else was he supposed to say? Good guy by day, wanted across all fronts by night?
He took in a deep breath trying to transition to the next question, "So what if I told you there was a place that makes sense and no sense at the same time. A place that can pull you from any point in time, without any explanation." He briefly nudged his head back, feeling a lighter numb from the earlier hit. "That place is here, welcome to the Paradox House." He smiled cheerfully, as an attempt to ease up the self generated intensity by Aesop.

Hange | Hallway | mintedstar/fur |Lightning quick, Hange reached out and snatched a handful of fluff, pulling it from his shoulder. They carefully pulled it apart in their hands, eyes wide with curiosity, and then looked back at him, tilting their head. "You're a puppet...?" they said, blinking. "Ahh, that's fascinating! I've never met a living puppet before." They leaned in closer, their glasses catching the dim hallway light as they finally registered the rest of his questions. "Game? I don't know about any game. I'm a vampire, though - oh! Yes, it's the House! How do you know about it? Have you been here before?"

"Hey!" said Aesop, slapping at Hange's hand. Which was indeed about as effective as being slapped by a puppet. He looked slightly offended, but not really the worse for wear due to the lost stuffing. "Doll. There's a difference. Puppets have strings." Despite his pointed remark, he had scooted backwards from Hange while stating this. Afraid, perhaps. Or at the very least wary. "And I've never been here. This mansion is new. Why drop me in the same room as a hunter, that’s what I want to know. If this is a certain someone's idea of a 'funny joke, I'm not laughing." Clearly not. Goodness, he wished he could stop his heart beating like this. "... so, are you friendly then? Or just new?" He seemed to have an idea of what was going on, but also it wasn't anything close to reality.

“... what now?” asked Aesop, quite confused at the latest statement. But okay. “... What do you volunteer to do?” It took pointed concentration not to stutter. It wasn’t easy. But he kept himself as composed as possible. This was not the situation he’d expected just now. But okay. It wasn’t like he could do very much all things considered. “And also none of what you said about here makes any sense either from my experience. But I guess I have a frame of reference … ?” He did, but now he wasn’t at all sure that Rowlin did. What was going on? “You didn’t happen to get a letter, did you?” he asked, with a brief pause there to try and work out if it was even a question he should ask. “Telling you to come here?”

"It wasn't horrible, but yeah, it was the worst thing so far. What was that red one you were going to try?" She glanced over at the other pair at the other end of the table, curious about what kinds of foods they were choosing. She saw them take various kinds of baked goods likes cakes. She had tried some of the baked baklava already, but she didn't recognize the two kinds that she saw them try.

Rowlin’s head tilted back at the question, What now? The words echoed in his head. Like I’ve gotten that far. It’s like asking me, what are we doing next week? He looked back at Aesop with a raised brow. “Well… that’s an answer I don’t have. You’ll be here and then you will be sent back to the place you came from. Though, you can relax, or explore or probably get dragged in someone’s adventure depending on who else appears.” He started recalling past experiences before glimpsing over at the mirror before returning his attention to Aesop. “On the other end, you can have a conservation.” He brought out a chuckle noting the lad’s energy towards standing upright and ready. “You can relax, we are just having a casual conversation. If where you came from expects you to act in such a manor, then use this as a safe place to breathe for a second before returning to the reality that holds expectations.” Noting the further concentration from the lad, he tilted his head slightly, “I’ll start, on The weekends I volunteer in numerous places. Whether it be public events, animal shelters, school events, or hiking groups.” He nodded slightly as he was mentally counting his examples. “I do this to help others, and it makes me feel better.” He grinned, “Frame of reference! That’s a good one.” He nudged his head towards the mirror. “But then again, this place is best experienced so rather then trying to make sense, just live. In the moment.” He smiled attempting to reassure the newcomer. “As for a letter, I haven’t received a letter asking me to come here specifically. I just sorta ended up here. Though maybe I’ve forgotten? I’m not really fighting Father Time, so if something of sorts has happened its probably slipped my mind.” He turned his head towards the mirror, to look at his reflection, that appeared between the cracks. “Hey, have I received a letter asking me to come here?” He raised a curious brow as he asked the inanimate object. It’s bound to come to me…

Shade || Valentines Room || this train wreck
"Good," she said with a smile, "I imagine you could actually use a lull in whatever chaos you deal with. I'm glad to hear you're doing good." Shades attention drifted thoughtfully over to Touka, watching her mess with about with her hands then looked back at Rex and shrugged, grinning slightly. "Not too bad. Definitely a change of pace to be back here again. And... in this room," she trailed off with a chuckle, and shrugged her shoulders.
The chuckle rolled on at Hooks slander of the house and she hummed. "Well, I don't know how you two feel about it," she said, glancing at the pair accompanying them, "I think it'd be fun to do competitive stuff. I'm sure we could find a way... Arm wrestling, three legged race... Balloon popping, maybe? I'd suggest spin the bottle, but..." Shade looked around the room, smirked almost softly at some of its occupants, and shook her head.
