(The alchemical symbol for zinc is what Myrnin is referring to. It looks like an uppercase 'Z' with a vertical line through the bottom line of said Z.)
Myrnin brightened at the question and approached. Technically, he supposed for proper teaching, this should have been sitting Matteo down with a book and telling him to read it and then tell him what any of it meant and yada yada lots of stages. But this was also the House. He didn't even have the short timeframe of a human life time. He had a scattering of blinks and not much else. So he simply looked at the label on the flask and said to Matteo, "That's how we used to do things. Combine elements in different parts, break them down, things like that. Do you know the four elements at least? That seems a good start. The point is knowing what things to mix together, but also to just ... go for it." It was horribly oversimplified, but it was a start. "That is zinc, by the way. That's why the symbol looks like a 'z'."

Matteo stared at him with a blank expression as he asked the question about the elements. “Huh? Elements?” He hadn’t learned anything quite like that yet; he was only 7 after all. “Mister, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he muttered softly. He glanced at the bottle in his hand, looking at the label as he continued. Well, he hadn’t heard of zinc either. He let out a frustrated sigh as he placed the bottle back on the table. “This is a lot...” He then gathered up a few more bottles filled with stuff, staring at their labels. “I wanna see that you can do! I don’t want to mess up anything.”

Myrnin arched an eyebrow. Falling at the first hurdle it was. He almost was amused. "Earth, water, air, and fire," he said, answering his own question. "But yes, I can show you." Carefully, he started a fire under one of the beakers. Then he placed about a palmful of powder into it and waited. After not too long, it started to smoke. He looked over at Matteo. "You can do a lot of things with alchemy. It can be quite fascinating. Elements, by the way, are basic components of everything around you. You're made of them."

Matteo listened quietly as he spoke. “Oh, well that was easy. I thought you were going to list off other things like zinc,” he said. At least those four elements would be easy to remember. The boy shrugged and was now staring at the beaker. As soon as it started to smoke, he grinned. “Woah, that’s so cool! And wait, really? We’re made up of elements?” He never heard of that before, but he was rather interested. “You really know a lot about alchemy! But I do have one question: is it dangerous at all, mixing different things together? Because if not, I want to try if you’ll let me!”

(Did a mini graduation and was at school aaaall day. So tired, only just got back. @.@ )
"Oh, it can be dangerous," Myrnin said with a shrug. And he pointed toward the open window. "Good ventilation helps. And wearing gloves. Occasionally things blow up. But I have a good idea what doesn't." And what was non-toxic to human lungs. He passed Matteo another vial. "You can mix this, and this -" another vial "- and these." And he pointed to a few other in turn. "Besides that, I'd leave that to me. But if you want to add any of these together, you can."

(Sorry I’ve also been busy with graduation and such ^^)
“Oh no, I actually don’t have any gloves on,” Matteo muttered, but continued to watch him point at stuff. He grabbed the vial that he handed him, then grinned. “Really? And it’s safe to mix these I’m guessing.” At least he hoped Myrnin wasn’t lying, which he wasn’t sure why he would. The boy grabbed a few of the vials that he had pointed at and mixed a few. Some things he added started to smoke, while others caused the liquids to change colors. “Woah. So, does any of this have any use? Or is it just to learn about what everything does?”

(Such a mood. Hope yours goes/has gone well!)
Myrnin shrugged. "Some do. The main search back in the day," and here he waved a hand around, presumably to mean the perceived time of the room they were in, "was to turn base metal into gold. Or discover riches in general." A small, smug smile appeared on his face and he rummaged around on a table before coming back with a slim stick. He stuck it into one of the vials Matteo had mixed and when he pulled it out, the end was indeed gold. Gold colored, at any rate. "Often it was also just as possible to find out how to create clever fakes. Sell them, to buy more materials, to get further chance to try again. Or we discovered other things that is what modern science -" and here he said the word like it was an insult, "-is based on. Though they also missed out on several things." He shrugged. "At least in my world." He held out the stick to Matteo. "Careful not to touch any of the liquids or powders directly. They can burn skin." Apparently the stick was a glove substitute.

(I am so sorry, I didn’t have service for a few days ^^ And yes, it went well. I just gotta wait for my diploma to get mailed. I hope yours went well too!)
The boy stared at the reactions when Myrnin mixed the liquids together. He was partially listening at this point, but was a little distracted my the vial as he grabbed it. Plus, he was trying to understand what he was trying to say. It was obvious that Myrnin was passionate about alchemy just by his tone when he voiced his opinions about certain things. His last statement broke his thought. “Oh, got it mister! I won’t touch anything unless you tell me to,” Matt muttered quietly, shaking the vial a bit. “Other than this gold stuff, can we make anything else? Maybe something that won’t hurt if it’s touched?”

(It did! Glad to hear yours went well! I tried to send my transcript to my new uni and apparently I did it too soon, because it didn't work. Alas. Later next month.)
"Hmm, sure," Myrnin said. After a moment, he looked at the indicated vials and pointed to a couple. "Mix those together. I'll be right back." It was powder and that seemed to just make ever so slightly different colored powder. Myrnin exited the room, his voice trailing behind him, "I'm getting water." He was back a moment later, with a small bucket of water and a bowl. He set the bowl on a table and then poured a small amount of water into the bowl. After he did that, he indicated Matteo. "Feel free to add it. You can touch it instantly."
(It can be whatever you like, but my immediate thought was, like, slime or something lol.)

(I'm so sorry! I'll leave this reply if you wanted to continue lol)
"Ok!" Matteo replied and immediately began mixing the ingredients together. He was nervous to mix the items together, so he just mixed it with a stick at first. Once Myrnin returned, the boy nodded and combined his mixture with the water before mixing that. "Hm? What are we making?" He asked as he continued. Within a few minutes, everything was finally mixed together. He set the stick down he had used to mix and slowly tried to pick the slime up. "This stuff is weird! It's like liquid or something, but it's not? Do you make this stuff often, Mister?"

It was written weeks ago. So sorry.)
Myrnin chuckled a little. "Not exactly. But I can show you exactly how to make it, if you like." He couldn't help but think that there should probably have to be something he could do for Matteo. A clone who, well ... did not exactly have a good outcome in his future, if Myrnin had to guess. "Is there anything you would like to learn?" He had to ask. Had to know if there was anything he could do.

(no you're completely fine! but that is so weird. I was like guess they forgot to reply lol)
Matteo went quiet for a second as he thought, still playing with the slime they had made. After a minute, he shook his head. "There's nothing I can think of," he muttered softly, glancing up at him with a smile. If his friend wanted to teach him anything, he would be happy to listen, but he probably wouldn't remember much of what he was taught. "I'm just glad to hang out with you really!" The boy set the slime down on the table before turning away as he scanned the room some more. "I kinda want to explore some more, if that's fine with you."

(I was so sad. It was a much better reply then that one. Saddest, saddest days. I came in like 'huh, wonder if Broken replied ... why does it say last reply June 11th???' XD )
"Sure, that's fine," Myrnin said, his voice quiet. That was the rub, wasn't it. It wasn't as simple as just teaching Matteo how to protect himself. It was so much harder than that. He followed after Matteo and perked up a little as he did, saying, "I wonder if this is a room in the past or if it's more of a room that's going to act like whatever we want. I'd be curious to know. The House doing things because it makes for entertainment seems ... rather usual, all things considered."

(no i feel your pain fr lol I wonder what you even did to get your post deleted)
"Uh, maybe the House is just being nice for once..." Matteo he trailed off a bit, beginning to walk towards the hallway. There didn't seem to be much in this specific room besides the alchemy table and the other herb room Myrnin had opened, which seemed to keep most of the supplies. He turned toward Myrnin. "Well, I don't care to start looking for a way to leave here, but I maybe we can look around some more?" There were one, maybe two more doors that lined the tiny hallway. Maybe they were just storage, but the boy was curious. "I think we'll be fine! Who knows, maybe the rooms change based on what we ask for? That would be fun!" As the boy stared at his friend, his smile began to fade. He had picked up slight hints that maybe something was bothering him. He hadn't mentioned anything before that had entered the room, so maybe it was just his imagination. "What's wrong, Mister Myrnin?"

( I think my internet might just have had a moment and gave out before it sent? I have no clue, I don't remember. XD ) Myrnin winced. "That obvious, was I?" He tried to play it off with one of his usual broad grins. "It isn't anything big. Just thinking about your ... education." This did not explain why he was frowning, but it did seem to play it off. "I think it'll be fun to try a room though." He reached out to one of the door handles, then paused. Then waved at Matteo. "You're the one who hasn't tried a door yet. I imagine you'd have more fun seeing a room which you'd like to see. Give it a shot?" He kinda wanted to know what the kid desired. If that was how the room would work, of course. (I think it'd be fun if that was how the room worked. If you're down, of course.)

(no, I was thinking that's how the room was going to work lol the house can be nice just this once ) Matteo nodded, offering him a smile. He didn't know why Myrnin was worried about his education, but he wouldn't ask. He was almost 7 after all, should he know more for his age? There was only so much he could learn from his teacher and caretaker, and they both said he learned new things fairly quickly. He shook the thought away as he mentioned picking a food. "Oh yes I will!" He exclaimed, reaching for the same door as his friend was about to open. He paused as he grabbed the handke, thinking about what he would like the room to be. The boy quickly opened the door, a grin coming to his face. "Ta-da!" He exclaimed, reaching for Myrnin's hand again as he stepped inside. The room was a vast field under a clear blue sky, dotted with wild flowers of many colors. There was a slight breeze, causing the flowers to sway and the air was filled with a sweet fragrance. "I know it's not really like the alchemy room, but what do you think? I've always wanted to go outside and play!"

Myrnin stepped out with hesitation, waiting for the sun to sting against his flesh. But it dud indeed seem like the House was going to be kind to them this time. He found himself breathing in a breath of fresh air and grinning. "Good choice!" he said to Matteo. "I like it." He poked at a patch of grass with the toe of his shoe, studying it for a second, then asked, "Do you want to play a game then? Since we're here?" (Apologies for the poof. I was moving. )

(You're fine! I understand how stressful it is to move! and sorry for just now seeing this ^^')
Matteo beamed as he looked around the room. He was about to run off to a patch of flowers, but upon hearing Myrnin's question, he quickly turned around. "Hm? Oh like tag! But you might cheat, I think you're faster than me." He paused momentarily before continuing, staring at the flowers that had caught his attention earlier. "What about hide and seek?" Trees were dotting the edge of the field and some of the grass and flower patches were probably high enough to be hidden in. "Unless you had another idea."

"I'd never cheat. Is it my fault humans are slow?" He grinned a bit though and nodded, "Hide and seek seems perfectly reasonable. I would be happy to play." He looked around the area, head tilting as he did, and assessed what places would be good. "I hide?" he asked. Technically he could "cheat" worse since he could hear Matteo's heartbeat.
