My last post:
Arabella was used to being slightly cold hearted towards prisoners, but Cain's worried gaze seemed to melt that away. Whether it was intention or not, it was working. She had to tell him the truth though, because once he goes back - if he goes back - he would face it himself. It would be better for him to just grieve now.
Arabella sighed as she prepared herself for the coming events. "One of the men that was killed in the attack, was identified by the castle dwellers as a brother to you. Prince Adam." She stated his name with hesitancy, but she needed to tell Cain. Perhaps Adam wasn't his only brother and didn't want Cain to be confused. Confused and filled with grief was not a good combination.
Arabella softened her gaze when she looked up at Cain, "I'm really sorry." And she meant it. It was empathy she felt for Cain due to her own brother's death. Arabella remembered eating nothing but bread for two weeks because she stated she 'wash't hungry'. No one expected her to be though, since grief often took away your appetite.
Your's:
Cain sucked in a harsh breath at the mention of the death of his brother, eyes widening as he covered his mouth. Not Adam. He backed up, back hitting the wall, and slowly slid down it, shoulders shaking as he began to silently cry; graceful even in mourning. He bowed his head, hair falling over his face. He couldn't believe it would be him of all people- he'd been kind to Cain, the two had been very close. But at least, he comforted himself, it hadn't been his twin sister Aila, or his half-brother Abel. He tearfully looked up and met Arabella's gaze. 'Thankyou for informing me.' He croaked, still not about to forget his princely manners. He wiped his eyes with trembling hands. 'Please, leave me alone a little while.' He of course meant speaking-wise, knowing she couldn't actually leave.
Bloodrose, sorry this took forever ^^"

((Me neither sorry!!!! I'm not entirely sure tbh. I think it might be best if we skip through the prison thing; we know here going to bond so we can just say in the skip how she's been supporting him/getting to know him better etc, and we can get to her helping him escape maybe?
We could perhaps have his parents have died- his mother from illness, his father poisoned by a third kingdom? And Cain's twin sister or little brother or something are struggling because neither of them were trained to take the throne- Cain's the crown prince, not them. That make sense? So the kingdom is in turmoil ATM and under the rule of advisors rather than the siblings))

It was slow going as Arabella and Cain attempted in knowing one another better, mainly because of the stream of bad news from his kingdom thay had come in nearly every day. It was assassinations of palace workers, nobles, and his family. Which would have been good news to her if she wasn't Cain's friend. It felt good, despite everything around them, to be able to call him that now. And she hoped he felt the same way. He was truly a good person, and she was wrong for judging him like she did at first. That was why she had to get him out of his cell. It was to make up for him being placed in there, his family and friends dying, and everything else that she felt was her fault. For all she knew, she could have been at fault for all of those horrible things.
So now, they were sneaking through the woods inside her own land and making their way to the border. It would have been too risky to take a horse, since the guards would have noticed it was missing and kept track of who took them. They needed to leave when no one expected them too: on her shift. (Which granted she took nearly every shift available to look after him). Arabella had been nothing but loyal to this army since she had joined, and that was why no one expected her to do anything.
Her and Cain were by a river, under the cover of darkness, trying to keep quiet with the only talking being whispers. It wouldn't be long before others noticed the empty cell and missing guard, and the longer they can stay unnoticed, the better. "Are you doing okay?" Arabella asked Cain, concerned for his wellbeing.

Cain had slowly retreated into himself as the time had gone by, looking more and more exhausted from the stream of bad news and more and more depressed. He had deep black bags under his eyes and constantly looked like he just wanted to either sleep, or crawl away and hide. He pushed his long hair back from his face as they walked, tiredly looking around at where they were. His legs were aching and his feet were blistered beyond belief- the shoes he'd been wearing when he was kidnapped weren't the best shoes for walking in for miles- they were only for looking smart and presentable whilst in the castle. His royal blue shirt, which laced up with gold thread at the back, was torn in places, grubby and looked loose on his even thinner body- despite the extra food Arabella had sneaked to him, it hadn't been enough- and he'd had to tighten his belt to keep his trousers from slipping low on his hips.
'Yeah- I'm doing alright.' He mumbled to her. Despite it all, he was determined to get home now that he was free, and he wasn't going to let anything stop him.
He had a kingdom to rule.
He quietly found a few stepping stones with which to cross the river, tripping and his knees hitting the mud as he reached the other side. He remained on his hands and knees for a few minutes, his body begging him to give up and just sleep. He felt a wave of dizziness, and in all honesty, he really wished he could listen- he struggled to make his cold limbs move out of the slippery mud.

Arabella knew Cain was tired, and she was too, just not as much as he was. She was used to staying up for a night or two without sleep for scout missions or something of the sort. However, it has been nearly a week and she was lucky she got a few hours during the day. At most, she has retained about ten hours total, and Cain probably had about the same but wasn't used to such conditions. The tiredness made her snap at small things at times, or too tired to eat. She often gave whatever she managed to find to Cain since she couldn't keep the food down. Her frame wasn't thinking like Cain's either, it was the same as it normally was. If she ate a lot, or a little, it wouldn't have mattered. Her body doesn't seem to understand the difference and stays relatively the same.
Her attention turned to Cain, and she felt more awake when he fell and didn't stand up immediately. She made her way over to him, as quickly as her tired body could let her, and stood beside him. As she could not find the strength to bend down. "We should find a place to rest. I can take watch while you sleep." She suggested, but didn't really want to give him an option. He may die from exhaustion if they kept going like they were.

'Ten minutes.' He mumbled. 'Can we just sit for ten minutes? I'll be okay.' Arms trembling he slowly pushed himself to his feet, not even caring that he was now covered in slick, cold mud. He limped over to a large stone and sat down on it, trying to catch his breath. He wearily looked over at Arabella, concern in his eyes. 'And you? Are you alright?'

BloodroseArabella was not alright, she hasn't been since they left, but Cain didn't need to know that. She couldn't worry him in such a way. All she could really think about was how Cain was doing, she could die and all that would matter to her was if he got home safely. He deserved to. "Don't worry about me. I'm no one you need to worry about." She said without hesitation. She was used to being just a number and not a person, because that was what you were when you did her job. "And if you need more than ten minutes, I can give you more than ten minutes." She grabbed his arm and placed it over her shoulders, supporting what weight she could. Arabella wasn't about to let him pull away either, he needed help and now was not the time to be prideful about receiving her help.

He promised, not complaining at all at her help, grateful for it. He hopped along beside her as they continued on their perilous trip home. After another half hour, when Cain was just starting to feel hopelessly exhausted, he glanced up and saw the turrets of his castle rising over the horizon. 'There,' he croaked. 'There!!' He seemed to get a burst of energy and immediately started pulling her along, limping, exhausted, dirty, but determined more than ever to get back home, back to his people, back to what remained of his family.

{It's all good ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/6575102/images/K_aktz7ovAHLNjZqbiem.gif) } Arabella knew that they had crossed the border a ways away, but didn't want to say anything. She knew that Cain would get too excited if he knew and push himself harder than ever. Which would ultimately get him killed. But now that he knew they were nearing the castle, she was expendable. Very expendable considering she was from a different army on foreign soil. That also meant though, that if she would rather die than Prince Cain not make it back home, she would have to stick to her word. Her death would not affect anyone if that were to happen, so that would make her all the more expendable. She shouldn't think like that though, there was hope now. Even if it was just a little. "Cain, slow down. You're going to kill yourself if you keep moving that fast." She warned and started digging her heels in the ground to keep him from going too fast. "I only keep going if you do, so be considerate and slow down please." Arabella was also supporting some of his weight, which granted he is not fat, it was a lot for her when she was weak and tired. She shouldn't get upset over the fact that he was happy to be almost home, she would have felt the same

((I'll have it so one of his siblings saw him get kidnapped ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/6575102/images/lNtnPuxeCzkaKMNYVXVv.gif) )) He turned to look at her, expression stressed as she slowed down, his legs trembling as they slowed down. He swallowed tightly, wanting to be there soon as possible. Finally they arrived at the gates of the village, where one of the guards started pointing, before yellinginside. Seconds later another guard appeared, holding a horse and hurrying over. 'Prince Cain? Is that really you?' 'It's me.' He croaked, wincing as the guard pulled him gently away from Arabella, and lifted him onto the horse. Cain struggled to hold on, but his dignity did not allow him to fall. Another horse was brought for Arabella to climb onto, and then the guards began to lead them up to the castle. 'It's horrible, my prince.' The head guard mumbled. 'Your brother and sister- they have no power at all. The advisors have completely taken over the kingdom, there's nothing anyone can do.' 'I'm not old enough to rule yet.' Cain curiously responded, looking down. 'If they won't listen to my twin, how do you expect me to have any power?' 'You're the crown prince!' The guard exclaimed. Cain looked away. 'Let us just hope that these advisors think the same.' He murmured.

Arabella was utterly confused as to why she was brought a horse. Her face has never been seen around this area except for when she kidnapped Prince Cain and was under orders to keep him as a hostage. Perhaps because of all of the dirt and mud, and how she looked so tired, it was impossible to tell who she was. That wouldn't stay like that forever though, she would be found out and then she would thrown in the dungeon, beaten, and then hung for her crimes. It was a terrifying thought, and she was angry she let her imagination go so far. Now though, Arabella had to leave, and as soon as possible or it would be the end of her.
For safety precautions, she rode towards the back. But she couldn't make an escape. The guards were surrounding their whole party and would stop her if she tried running off. So she just kept going, and following along until they reached the castle that her and Price Cain had gone through hell and back to arrive at. She had to get away from it though, Arabella was not safe. And it appeared, she never will be.

The guard lifted Cain down as they entered the castle, and one of them lifted down Arabella. Cain patiently waited for her to join him before he walked ahead, taking a few deep breaths. A beautiful aura of dignity suddenly flowered around him, a cold, powerful sternness in his eyes as he lifted himself up, and strode ahead, no longer limping despite his obvious injuries and need to, a nerve jumping in his jaw. He pushed open the throne room doors and they banged against the walls as he stormed up the aisle. The advisors jumped half out of their skin from the noise and looked up, eyebrows arching, some of them beaming with excitement that he'd returned. 'Prince Cain, you're alive! 'You're back, what an honour!' 'How wonderful to see you okay, my prince.' 'It is truly amazing to see you okay!'
'Silence!' Cain demanded, and they filtered into a pleasant quiet. 'I have heard a great many things whilst I was captured about my kingdom, and I am very, very angry about what I have heard.' He snarled. 'My parents dead, my eldest brother dead, the kingdom falling into shambles!!' His usually soft and sweet spoken voice had raised into an angry roar, and even the advisors looked shocked. 'And I come back to see not my siblings ruling as they should, but five men who are wallowing in power!'
'Cain?' Came a soft, worried and accented voice from the doorway. He froze and looked up, eyes widening. 'Lucio,' he said softly, immediately falling to one knee and opening his arms. Lucio sprinted over and leapt into his arms, apparently uncaring if Cain was a mess or not. He looked over Cain's shoulders, and seemed to freeze. He then pointed directly at Arabella, and announced; 'that's her!!! That's the woman that took him! You brought her back, Cain?' Cain froze and looked up, realising Lucio must have seen what had happened. 'It's okay-' he tried to say, before releasing Lucio and trying to reach Arabella. To his own shock, the royal guards stepped in his way, and allowed the normal guards to take her prisoner. 'Move!' He demanded, and they did not respond. 'Ah... Cain.' Came a soft voice, and he looked up to see someone very familiar in the doorway. This man had been away from his family for a very long time. '...Uncle... Jora?' He weakly replied. 'What are you doing here?' Jora blinked, then smiled pleasantly. 'Looking after the kingdom, of course... didn't you know? The place is in shambles- these advisors of yours are useless.' His tone turned dry, then looked at Arabella. 'And this little minx will be headed to a cell.' 'What? No, you don't understand-' 'Hush, boy.' Jora replied, his tone suddenly slicing into Cain, who froze, and even appeared to start shivering. 'Hush.' Jora purred, walking over and gently caressing Cain's cheek. 'You must be exhausted... let's get you bathed and to bed.' 'N-no, i- I don't need- I'm-' 'And confused, too. Poor thing.' He wrapped his arm around Cain's shoulders, the prince clearly terrified as he was led away from Arabella, unable to do anything except look scared and shocked. Lucio blinked and looked at Arabella warily, unsure as to what was happening.

Arabella began to shuffle backwards when she heard Prince Cain yell. They had gotten into arguments when they first met yes but he hand never yelled before. She was actually scared herself. But before she could attempt at planning an escape a child pointed out to the whole room who she was. Well, now that she was captured she was a dead woman with practically no hope. Arabella didn't resist, there was no point and frankly she was too tired to. Until she was thrown an insult at by Cain's uncle. She sent him a glare and had an insult on the tip of her tongue but she was necked back by the guards so hard all she could think about was the pain. Internally and externally. She heard Cain trying to speak but he really didn't do anything. Did he even plan to get her out was she worth nothing? Wait...Arabella shouldn't be asking those questions, she was expendable. Her life meant nothing. That was what she was told anyway, from several sources.
Arabella was taken down to the dungeons, and practically thrown into a cell with the guards laughing. One of them looked her in the eye and said, "Prepare to explain yourself in the morning." Before walking off. She didn't think they assumed that she was innocent. Because she wasn't really. Arabella was far from innocent, she committed the crime, and deserves to be punished. But she also brought Cain back to his home land, something no one else bothered to do. For that, she should not be hung. Tortured maybe for her crimes but certainly not executed. But for the rest of the night, and for the rest of her days, she would wait to see if Prince Cain cared. She would wait here to see if he would come, and at least speak to her. It would be enough to show her that he did care.

After he'd been bathed by Jora and had been put to bed, Cain sat in silence for about an hour, before climbing out of bed and putting on some shoes to head down to Arabella. He managed to get through without being seen by anyone, not even the guards, and slipped inside of the cells. He walked hurriedly through and found her, quickly rushing over to hold the bars. 'Arabella, I'm so sorry.' He whispered, tears in his eyes as he knelt in front of her. 'I couldn't move, you- you can't understand, Jora- he's not- he's-' he released a shaky breath, knowing how terrified he sounded. 'I'm so sorry. Please, forgive me; I'll fight for you, I just don't know what I can do against my uncle.'

Arabella felt relieved to see Cain in the dungeon. It was ironic how it turned out, with her behind bars this time. She wanted to lighten the mood and maybe make a comment about that but decided against it. She instead sat down cross-legged in front of him from the other side. She saw the tears in his eyes and it made her want them to disappear. She never liked it when he was distraught. Arabella put a hand over his as he gripped the bars. "I'm just happy you came down to see me." Arabella gave the smallest of smiles and then added, "Please, don't worry about me too much. My job is done, I got you back here. Where you belong. I don't have anywhere else to go Cain except on the run." She wanted to cry too, but held it in and only found her grip on his hand tighter instead. His presence was comforting, yet dangerous. It chipped away at the wall she worked so hard to build, the one that protected her all of these years and slowly it was crumbling.

He leaned his forehead against the bars of her cell, his gaze on the floor now as he silently struggled with what to do. 'I'm not letting you go.' He mumbled, feeling as though he now had a debt to repay to her, simply for caring for him in the cell and then making the face decision to return him to his homeland, disobeying her own kingdoms orders just to help him. 'I'm not. I'll fight for you as much as I can, Arabella.'

Arabella's gaze softened as Cain spoke. It was obvious he cared about her, and that was yet more chipping done to her wall. Just to know his presence was near, it made her wall start to crumble. She was playing with fire though, she shouldn't care so much and that went for Cain too. They would hurt themselves on the inside if she were to be tortured or hung. Arabella took one of Cain's hand off of the bars and held it in her own. She didn't intertwine their fingers, but held his hand in a comforting gesture. "I would appreciate it, but don’t do anything stupid. If it helps, I have something like a trial tomorrow. Although, I'm not sure what I would say." She admitted with a slight shrug.

'I'll be there.' He assured her, glancing at their hands with a warm gaze. 'I'll find a way to free you, I promise.' He gave her a reassuring smile, although he wasn't sure if he was comforting himself or her now.

Arabella glanced at their hands too for a fleeting moment before looking up again at the Prince. "Cain, I haven't had a friend like you before. Not one that would go out of their way for me anyway. I don't really talk to people in general, sometimes it's best for me to keep my head down and do what I'm told. But until I started talking to you, I had yet to figure out that there were still good people out there. I was so used to being told I'm just a number, a statistic, because that is what you become in my career." She paused, letting out a small sigh. It wasn't a good idea to start talking to him like this, about what she wants to keep under wraps, but she wouldn't truly be free if she was released or not. Therefore, she might as well talk to someone about it now. "And that may still be the case, and I may be...expendable, but I'm also worth something to someone after all this time. And that is what I've always wanted. It doesn't matter how many whippings I recieved before today, I only look forward. You helped me prove that that was still possible, you were the proof I needed." She let go of his hand slowly and put it back in her lap, that was probably the most she has ever said at one time to Cain. And it's humorous in a dark way that it just so happens to be when they switched places. Cain was outside of the cell, and Arabella was in.

Cain found himself blushing deeply at her praise and looked up into her eyes, finding himself ten times more motivated to get her out of this cell and by his side. 'You're worth something to me.' He murmured softly. 'You're worth a lot. I value your friendship- I won't let you get hurt, and I'll fight for you every step of the way.' Passion in his voice he finally stood. 'Please excuse me; I have a lot of work to do.' He took a deep breath and turned, forcing himself to leave and head back up to his room, not knowing at all what to do about his situation.
