( olivers mind is an amazing place )
"Ah," Oliver said lightly. "Mine is mostly my father. Telling me I gotta go home, my mamma will worry, all of that," he shrugged lightly and tilted his head back. "But it's fine. I should probably start making my way back to my bike before it freezes to the school grounds and I lose it to the icy cold winds forever."

"Ah. My father is in Georgia, so I know I'm in trouble if he texts me." She responded teasingly as they made their way back to the school. "Hopefully your bike isn't frozen yet, if so your going to have to have a fun walk home," She added, trying to figure out how she was going to get home from here. It was a bit further away from here, well, clearly, they walked away from the school. She could walk with the two of them back to the school, just break off when they passed her street.

"Mine doesn't really stick around the house much. Business trips," he shrugged. "But yeah, no. I will drag my bike through hell to keep it safe. I will never leave it for longer than like, three hours," Oliver tilted his head back and sighed softly, watching his breath go up in a blast of white. "The roads are gritted, at least. Gritted? I think that's the word, but yeah. It shouldn't be too hard to ride home."

"Yeah," Oliver nodded lightly and flicked his gaze to the street. Huh. They really hadn't ventured too far, but it was nice to be out of the apartment for a while. No rebelling siblings, no mother, no...oh hell, he had to do dinner for tonight. He glanced at his phone for the time, and was relieved to see that it wasn't too late. Good. "I'd offer you two a ride, but it just means going past where you need to leave, and I need to pick up Maja from her after-school club."

"What club is she a part of?" She asked, curious, mentally listing all of the clubs in her head. She wanted to get a feel of his siblings- she wondered how similar they where to him, if they spoke better english then he did or if he was the best at it in their house. She had way to many questions for him, many probably being a bit too snoopy than what would be acceptable at this stage of their friendship. She jumped over a crack in the ground, out of habit from when she was little and literally believed that stepping on a crack would break her mothers back. Of course, one time she got mad at her mother and stepped on a crack, but no broken back. It was a shame, really, at that time. Not that she wished her mother harm, it was just the spur of the moment.

"Uh," oh man. Was he a bad brother for forgetting? He wasn't sure. He thought about them carefully, before clicking his fingers. "The one about the environment. They draw posters and stuff. I think she's also part of like...an anime club?"
Oliver pronounced 'anime' like 'ah-nime', rather than it's proper pronunciation. He wasn't good at this.
"Yeah. I think today is the environment-y one," he smiled faintly and looked down, raising an eyebrow at her movements. "She likes to look cool for her friends so she gets me to pick her up on the bike after clubs."

"Well, the bike does make you look pretty cool," Tori conceded, pausing as they made it to her street. Her apartment complex was a bit down the street, so she still had some time to dawdle before her mom could see her and make her come back inside. She paused, slowly bending down to straighten a shoelace on her boot, trying to take as long as she needed to. This was her stop, anyways. (I think imma hit the hay, Merry Christmas!)

( sleep well !! merry chrysler )
"I am pretty cool," Oliver stopped when he needed to and raised his eyebrows, adjusting his leather jacket (he loved the buttons he pinned to it) and then sticking his tongue out briefly. "See? Tongue piercing, check. Leather jacket, check. Piercings lining the shell of my ear, check. I am the epitome of cool."

(Yes yes while you're wearing your mothers turtleneck ok now I'm going to bed now) "Pretty neat. Wish I had the nerve to get piercings," She said, grinning at him. He was fairly high on the cool scale, on her opinion, not just because of the piercings, or the bike, he just seemed like a cool guy. She got up, wondering if she should stay just a little bit longer with the two, it was nice talking to the two guys.

( LEAVE HIS MOTHER'S TURTLENECK OUT OF THIS omg sleep well )
"The tongue didn't hurt as bad as the ear ones. Ear ones are the worst," Oliver grimaced slightly. "If I had the money to, I'd get a tattoo - but alas, my money goes into tuition and the kids," wow. That made it sound like his sisters were his kids. Well...it often felt like it. He gave a small smile, "I'm gonna get going, before Maja starts thinking I'm dead in a ditch somewhere. Have a nice night. Oh," he blinked, and pulled two scraps of paper from his pocket (ripped from a larger scrap of paper, from the tearing sound). He dug around in his pockets and found a pen, and wrote his number on both before offering them to the two, "my number. If you want to like. I dunno. Hang out over the weekend."

"Oh I have a tattoo," Tori commented, frowning momentarily at the "tuition and kids" comment, but waved it off quickly, not wanting to ask about it. She watched as he ripped a piece of paper out of his notebook, giving both she and Alex his number. The moment she got the paper she grabbed her phone and put in his number, knowing she would lose the paper some way or another, and and texted him to give him her own number. She bit her lip, unsure if she could hang out this weekend- during the time she was camped out in the nurses she kind of got the nurse to call her doctors and help her make appointments- both of them being on Friday and a blood draw Saturday, how that happened she had no idea, but she just rolled with it, lucky they could get her in. (I never will! mwaahahaha yikes Blue I'm sorry -huggles-

( LMAO sometimes i have good ideas )
The morning of Christmas Eve was a good one, for Oliver. They couldn't afford particularly much, but the gifts he'd bought his sisters were well-received (even Astrid, who later left with a promise she'd stay with the family the next day), and his mother remained peacefully in bed for the rest of the day, where she would likely stay until the family meal tomorrow. He had invited Alex and Tori over to his apartment, had given them the address and had little cards with Amazon gift vouchers in, due to the fact that he had no idea what to get them.
"Silje," said Maja, cross-legged on the floor and playing the new game he'd gotten her. "Trodde du virkelig få venner?"
"Mm," he replied lightly, eyebrows raising. "Er det vanskelig å tro at jeg har fått venner? Du sårer meg."
Maja frowned, but said nothing, instead choosing to continue to play the game with Eva, who was quite content with her new sweater and socks.
"Where's the other brat?" he asked, now switching to English.
'Hun gikk til sin nye venn,' Eva signed eagerly, eyebrows raised.
"Ah."
And so came the waiting game for his own friends.

Tori hated holidays. Well, more specifically Christmas and Birthdays, having no idea what to get others. She needed at least a day to figure out what to get each person on her list. For her mother and Alex, those where easyish. She gave her mom a gift card to target, and for Alex she got a thing filled with coffee, enough to last him a few months at least, with two mugs that had some witty saying on them. But for Oliver... well, she wasnt quite sure what to get him. She ended up opting to get him a book in Norwegian with a compilation of the worlds more popular plays- from Ibsen to Shakespeare and even a bit of Albee in it to. She hoped that he liked it, given their in depth discussion of Ibsen before.
Tori leaned back, finishing wrapping both of their gifts, looking a mixture of terror and satisfied. She put them in her bag and went down stairs, finding her mom at the table. She tapped on her moms shoulder, wishing her a good Christmas eve and she was headed out, and she was simply given a dismissive wave of her head. Sighing, Tori set out for Olivers house, planning on walking there. She squinted up at the dark grey clouds, watching as snow Fell quietly as she walked. Finally she got there, looking up at the house, feeling the nerves flutter in her chest and walked up to the door, knocking on it softly.
(Yikes good luck!)

When he heard a knock, Oliver stood up from where he sat and walked to the door, opening it and smiling at Tori with raised eyebrows.
"Hallo," he greeted, "Merry Christmas Eve. Come in, uh, can you take your shoes off?"
He stepped aside to let her inside, turning his head to look at the two siblings that remained in the house. Maja was visibly surprised.
"Silje!" she said, "you actually have friends! I thought you were joking."
She talked in perfect English, barely accented compared to Oliver's heavy accent. She clearly had practiced. Eva next to her stirred and smiled nervously, but did not speak because she was mute.

She grinned at the white haired boy, taking off the black boots quickly, revealing two mismatched neon socks- one orange, one blue. "Happy Christmas Eve," she said cheerfully, rummaging in her bag for his gift. Finally finding the pale blue wrapping, she picked it up and gave it to him. She didn't hear Majas comment, hearing the voice but not the words. Her eyes landed on Eva and she waved to her before signing, 'Are you Eva?' Her Norwegian sign a bit awkward, not used to the hand movements that where so different than what she grew up with. She didn't move her mouth, unsure how to say it verbally.

"Happy Christmas Eve," Oliver mirrored lightly, smiling as he took it and lightly shutting the door behind Tori and walking into the main living room.
"Uh, Tori - this is Maja and Eva. Maja, Eva, this is Tori."
"Yo," Maja raised one hand from her controller and brushed some brown hair from her face, smiling lightly. "I didn't know Silje had friends, so I thought she was lying."
Eva nodded eagerly and signed slowly for the safe of the newcomer. 'Yes! O-L-I-V-E-R told me you were coming, it's nice to meet you'.

She let out a laugh, recognizing the girl who thought her brother would make her look cool, before shrugging, "Well, he wasn't lying, this time at least." She responded cheerfully, looking around at the living room before glancing at Eva again, frowning slightly, having to translate in her head mentally. 'Its nice to meet you too, I don't know much Norwegian sign, so I'm sorry if I say something wrong,' she responded, apologizing in advance, giving her a sheepish, apologetic smile, tugging on her dark maroon sweater after she was finished signing, showing her slight nerves. Unsure what to wear she had gone with a white collared shirt with a maroon sweater, wearing both just in case if it was formal or informal, giving her plenty of fabric to fiddle with, her hands unable to stay still ever.

Eva opened her mouth in what could've been a laugh, though it was hard to tell. She smiled and nodded, looking down before signing slowly, this time in what English.
'It's okay. I'm not got good English sign,' she smiled faintly.
"For once," Maja flicked her gaze to Oliver, before focusing her attention on the game she was playing.
"Well," Oliver smiling faintly, "feel free to sit down. We have food cooking at the moment, "feel free to sit anywhere," he gestured vaguely. "Maja and Eva had new games for Christmas, so they're playing that - uh," he squinted, "there might be a third controller? Somewhere, but we have lots of things. Oh!"
He grabbed the wrapped giftcard (which was in the form of a bookmark) for Tori, "here you go."

'maybe we could teach each other?' She asked, switching back to ASL, her movements more confident and relaxed. She turned her attention back to her friend, taking the gift with a grin and a thank you, before sitting down on a chair, chuckling at the insanity that was Christmas Eve. Both of his sisters seemed really nice- Eva especially, and Maja had some definite sass but she was a teen, thats what was expected. "You have a nice place," She told Oliver, running her hand on the fabric of the couch, a little shy. This was the first time in a long time that she had gone over to someone elses abode, and it was nice, but it felt... foreign.

Christmas was sort of a bittersweet thing for Alex. Although he pretended not to care much for it, he did actually like the general spirit of Christmas. Christmas songs and the lights, and simply the feeling of the year coming to a close, really. On the the other hand, Christmas inherently held notions of family time and all that nonsense, which was the opposite of what he wanted. For one thing, his elder siblings who had moved out (his oldest sister and a brother) always came home, which was nice in principle except the house was plenty full just with those who actually lived there. Money was tight, so whatever they had got presents for the youngest handful of kids - his other sister who was the youngest of the family at seven, and his three youngest brothers. That left Alex sandwiched somewhere the the middle, the fourth oldest of the total ten, and he was probably a good argument for the existence of middle child syndrome. They didn't exchange gifts among each other, and none of them had the money for it even if they wanted to. Christmas day itself was a loud and chaotic affair which disguised a day-long challenge of who would snap first.
Special occasions did gain him a small amount of money from far-flung relatives though, so he had a little left to spend on his friends. For Tori, he usually either figured out (not very subtly) a couple of books she had been wanting to read, or would find a This year it was the latter, and while he wasn't much of a book person himself, he usually did a pretty good job of buying them for his friend. For Oliver, nothing obvious really sprung to mind. In the end, he found a scaled down canvas print of a painting by an artist who had lived in Oliver's town in Norway (although it had taken some time for him to remember and then spell the name of it to find). Though not the original, it was still a pretty image, depicting the seafront.
Gifts in hand, Alex left his house late after brief interrogation from his youngest siblings about where he was going, who did he have to buy presents for. Still, by the time he knocked on Oliver's door, he was only a handful of minutes later than intended.
