liesel wailes //
Liesel found herself unsurprised by Kat's reaction. She doesn't react to being called a tramp, probably because it's not the first time someone's said that to her.
At least she kept some of her thoughts to herself. She really had been trying, but was she suppose to just stand by and be treated like dirt? She was a high class citizen, and now - she was ordinary. Hadn't she liked that though? Not now, not at all.
Liesel had a very strong urge to push Kat overboard, finding it hard not to imagine the other women flailing about like a drowning cat. She also would enjoy the same fate for Tobias, she'd like to watch both of them get humiliated. How could he be so blasé? Oblivious to everything else but the attractive women draping herself across his arm, it was sickening really. She would have liked to spit in their general direction just for that. But she didn't, instead she took a deep breath and turned away, refusing to stand and watch as Tobias gave Kat a tour. It was eye-opening how fickle the man's attention span was, and it really made Liesel realize what she should have detected all along.
She didn't ask Tobias to teach her how to fight because she chose him special. She chose him to spite Sebastian, which was childish but true. It really had nothing to do with Tobias; sure, he was attractive and charming - but what else? Did he have any capability to be something more than just a flirt? At this point, she doubted it.
Liesel followed after Sebastian, heading towards his chambers where he had disappeared to. She wasn't planning on apologizing, or trying to make amends - not at all. She needed to vent and honestly, he was the only person she could really complain to.
"Sebastian?" She pounded a first on his door, "You had better open this up, or I'm going to break it down."

Sebastian Serafin
Ah, Katarina. Nothing had really changed. She was still the same feisty, opinionated girl with whom he'd been infatuated for a good portion of his life. But now, something seemed different. He was no longer entranced by her alluring looks. No, now, he truly saw what he should have seen all along. She was quite a cruel individual, and even though she had always been reasonably kind to him, especially when they were together, but to everyone else, that was not the case.
And he saw this first hand when he witnessed how she treated Liesel, and that was where he decided to draw the line.
Perhaps he was beginning to truly care for Liesel. Perhaps he saw her as more than just his prisoner. Was that ethical? Traditionally, no. But he was a pirate, and no set of rules had the ability to hold him back from what he wanted anymore. He needed to apologize to Liesel. Even though he normally exuded stubbornness, he recognized that this particular characteristic of his would do nothing but hurt him. Especially if he wanted to pursue Liesel. If he wanted to explore the possibility of some sort of future with her, he would need to recognize his flaws.
He would need to become a better man.
As he heard Liesel pounding upon his door, he stood from the bed and answered the door.
"Okay, before you say anything, I have to say something." He stepped aside, allowing her inside. "I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry for snapping at you, and I'm sorry for not defending you."

Not only was she astonished by how quickly Sebastian opened his door, but he was apologizing. The fact that he was stepping up and doing so was impressing, especially since Liesel hadn't and they were both equally stubborn. It was an admirable thing to do, and it left her dumbstruck.
She shifted forward inside the room, still somewhat taken-aback. Liesel should have said something, something like "that means a lot to me" or "I'm sorry too"; but of course not, she wasn't very good with making amends. Instead, Liesel paused as if collecting her thoughts before deciding to speak. "You and Kat...?" She just couldn't resist inquiring, "How could you like her?" Liesel was still confused as to what both the brothers saw in the other girl, because honestly she didn't see it. Was physical appearance the only trait they were interested in? A lot of people were attractive, but that isn't what defines a person - at least she didn't believe so.
Liesel had always been considered pretty; with wavy golden blonde hair, solid blue eyes, and a graceful build. She hadn't ever worried about her looks, it all just came naturally. But maintaining a good personality was always a struggle; she spoke too much or didn't speak enough, or her temper - it had always been the major issue - her hotheadedness had scared off quite a few friends in the past.
"She deserves a good slap in the face that one, I 'ought to do it too." Liesel scowled, her irritation apparent.
Someone needed to teach Kat a lesson, maybe that would cause her to be not so terribly rude in the future.

sebastian serafin -- As soon as Liesel began speaking about his past relationship with Katarina, Sebastian's emerald gaze cast downward, almost as if he were embarrassed of himself. The young man heaved a sigh as he retreated to the bed, and as he sat down, he lowered his head into his hands. Honestly, the Katarina he knew was a different Katarina than everyone else seemed to know. The young woman with whom he'd always been close was a charismatic person. Of course, he'd been attracted to her enticing looks, but it was ultimately the way she treated him that made Sebastian truly want to pursue her. Perhaps this would be a bit difficult for Liesel, a first-hand victim of Katarina's brutality, to understand. But there was certainly a genuine, kind human being behind the façade of cruelty.
"It was a long time ago," Sebastian muttered, his tone almost prostrate. "We grew up together. It was never going to work, but it was worth a try, at the time."
Frankly, that explanation was all he could muster for the time being.
With a long, deep exhale, Sebastian lifted his head and his viridescent irises gazed upon the young woman beside him. His normally-steady regard softened significantly as he lifted a hand, tenderly cupping her cheek. His movements were almost hesitant, but honestly, he couldn't help himself. Gently, he brushed his thumb over her cheekbone, and the corners of his lips curled upward in a hint of a reassuring smile. Yes, he was beginning to care for Liesel. But he didn't want her to break his heart. He didn't want her to lead him on, especially if she felt something for Tobias.
That would be a nightmare.

liesel wailes //
In that moment Liesel felt increasingly guilty. She had so quickly come to judge Sebastian; from the moment she had met him. They had never actually had any kind of positive conversation, any type of interaction tended to be arguments or misunderstandings; anything not negative was rare. And that was partially her fault. She had been so closed minded about everything, mostly because she was a hostage, but now it was hard to tell if she was still a prisoner or not. If there was a chance to return home wouldn't she take it?
She wasn't so sure anymore.
The sea really was a beautiful place, it could lead to practically anywhere, and being out in the open; it seemed to stand for a type of freedom she had never had. Even though she'd been taken from her comfortable life and forced to adjust; she found that the homesickness previously felt had slowly started to fade away.
Liesel's eyes searched Sebastian's face, trying to decipher what he was thinking, but she wasn't a mind-reader. She felt his hand against her cheek and saw his smile, but everything still remained a mystery. What did he think of her? The young women still wasn't entirely sure what her opinion of him was either, but she couldn't help but be curious. She didn't usually care what other's thought of her, it was irrelevant, but somehow he made her feel just the tiniest bit insecure. She couldn't quite place how.
"I'm sorry I am not always the nicest, and that I get angry." She spoke slowly, almost unsure of what she was saying. "It's just hard getting over... the past." Liesel chose not to be specific, mostly because she didn't feel like explaining. It's hard to talk about things that cause you pain, and she didn't feel like re-opening any old wounds.

sebastian serafin -- Even when in port, the soft lull of the swells beneath the anchored ship caused the gargantuan vessel to gently sway with the rhythm of the tide. Frankly, the suppressed creaking of the ship's towering, wooden masts coupled with the sound of a coastal breeze filling the billowing, white sails served as a source of comfort for Sebastian. He could faintly perceive the sound of church bells clanging in the distance. A slow inhale filled his lungs, and his emerald irises flickered closed for a moment as he held his breath. Finally, Sebastian allowed himself to exhale, and when he did, he found himself, well, calmer, to say the least.
He no longer desired to wring Katarina's neck. Did he want to see her again any time soon? Uh, no. But could he tolerate her if that scenario arose? Yes. He most certainly could.
His attention returned to Liesel, and as she began to articulate her feelings, which was honestly the first time he could remember her speaking to him so candidly, Sebastian listened intently. The man's eyebrows corrugated just slightly, and his thin lips pursed in thought. Did he know anything of Liesel's past? Truthfully, no. Well. Nothing other than his shared history with her. And even that seemed to leave many holes in the story, in her story. He only knew that their parents shared a long past with one another, and to his knowledge, it was one of friendship and camaraderie. Never in his life did Sebastian hear his father say one negative thing in regard to either of Liesel's parents. Of course, he knew that his father shared a closer association with Liesel's father. More so than her mother.
Would it be appropriate for him to inquire about her past? Or even to tell her of the link between their families?
Ah, that was quite a tough call to make.
But finally, he decided that it would be best if she knew. No secrets to keep. But perhaps it would be best for him to compartmentalize his feelings for her - and there was no more denying that such true emotions existed. Was he only her protector? From what did she need protecting? Did his feelings for her originate from their families' history with one another? What exactly did he feel? Did he need to figure everything out now?
Breathe, Sebastian. You need to just take a moment and breathe.
The normally composed man began to tremble, as everything seemed highly overwhelming. Perhaps his reaction to the questions racing through his mind could appear to be a tad overdramatic. But for Sebastian, it was all genuine. Sincere. Unfeigned.
"Did you know that our parents knew each other?"
