[[ Eugh sorry for no replies today -- basically, last night, at 5:30, my bed literally snapped in two and obviously I couldn't sleep in a broken bed so I drove (in my pj's) to my parents 15 minutes away, but it was 6 by that time and I just couldn't sleep. So I had three hours of sleep last night.
Then all day I've been organizing this massive project for my grandma's 80th, my cousin was in hospital last night as well (she's in a lot but I'm worried about her), not to mention me going to 5 shops (two asian supermarkets, tesco, morrisons and aldi), cooking for my dad to say thank you for fixing my bed, organizing to go to Aberdeen tomorrow to get a cornsnake...
So yeah, was really busy and now I'm tired as and totally have 0 creative writing juice so replies will be tomorrow or potentially Sunday...(it's a busy couple of days)
But yes, the cat thing. Are you thinking kahjit, basically? Cause I could sort of do that.
I'm trying to work in a pregnancy thread though now. Pregnancy is my thing (I used to train to do midwifery). Love pregnancy. ]]

Violet had been watching all the people coming and going from the visitors center beside the ben nevis track. There were students, experienced mountaineers, even some american tourists...all were there. She slid off the fence she'd been sitting on, and internally winced at Aurora's heavy backpack.
"You know, I can carry something -- I'm quite strong," she said, feeling a little guilty that she needed none of the specialist equipment humans did.
[[aww mate yesss. Monopoly. And ya'll know Desmond is going to be the board flipper.
Also, I haven't been to that part of Fort William since I was about six years old, but I really do want to climb the thing before my dad gets too old to climb. I just got to get fitter first lol ]]

Aye no having a suppressed immune system means you're fair game for all sorts of weird stuff no one else gets at all?? but yeah I didn't read much about it being contagious to other people...unless your dad has a close intimate relationship with a sandfly.
But yeah no I had some dreams come true before -- had a dream I was somewhere far away but really excited, and there was a super narrow staircase in it too just before I turned 14. Six months later, met an online friend in York and the B&B we stayed in had a super narrow staircase.
Also had a dream that I lived in my own flat (that I got from a friend on a short term basis) and a friend of mine was pregnant when it was really unexpected about 4 years ago. Now, I live in my own flat (that I did in fact get from a friend on a short term basis) and the friend I had the dream about being unexpectedly pregnant is due at the end of January, and believe me, it was very unexpected.
So yeah no, dreams can be weird things man.

Every time someone says "drowning" I read it as "Dovewing". Easily deathberries. The rest of these are painful, slow, and terrible ways to go. *raises hand* can we add Dovewing to the poll I wanna die via Dovewing.

Violet turned to him, her face a vision of worry. Humans often talked about death, but there as something about the way Liam said it...it made her uneasy.
"Well, you really shouldn't die as well y'know," she commented. "Shame to waste pretty boys like you on something as ordinary as death," she said, her voice lifting into a light, haughty tone before she sauntered off in the direction of the area where Aurora slept. There, she looked over her sleeping friend with fondness -- just happy that she felt as connected to Violet as Violet did to her.

Drowning is being super underrated here, it's considered one of the absolute worst ways to go for a reason. The fear of not getting enough air while being underwater is ridiculously high in potency. The instinctual fear would make it really, really horrible. It doesn't help that you'd be aware until the very last second of consciousness and not dulled or numbed in any way. Deathberries are just objectively the best choice, they're used for euthanasia so they're pretty quick and they numb the victim before eventually leading to a heart attack in what seems to be twenty seconds? Maybe a little less if properly dosed. But wouldn't you panicking in any death-experience? Arguably, drowning could provide more panic because more often than not it's out of your control -- ie, someone is drowning you, not you are drowning yourself, because the physical reaction to bring yourself up to breathe is more often than not what stops people drowning themselves. Whereas it's easier to eat deathberries or something.

Liam sighed. He had been standing around for twenty minutes now, waiting for Aurora to get the frick out of bed. Apparently, she'd been getting around about 3 hours per night for the past month. This was toying with his patience. "This is what fake IDs are for," He replied. "Actually, no. Please don't use a fake ID. I'm not bailing you out of prison." Violet crossed her arms, her face pulling itself into a sulk. "Well, I tried to use my real one, but this vampirism thing has made that massively inconvenient," she said. Then, she made her way to the window and looked out onto the rolling, aquamarine waves. Her mind was lost to herself again. "My mother never had that problem. See, she was converted when she was eighteen, but for some reason she looks like she's in her late twenties now. I never knew why...perhaps vampires really do age," she said -- suddenly thinking about her mother again, and her mood dropping to a somber tone. Would she stop searching now? Would she let her go? Or would she exterminate her, like every other project of her's that failed?

idek, I'd agree with vectoring34, dawnlight. It isn't strictly 'painful' -- but the definition of pain is just that it's an unpleasant sensation. I mean, there's this whole idea that if you redefine something as a 'sensation' rather than a 'pain', it can help with something that is painful (ie, hypnobirthing techniques used in childbirth) because you're no longer associating it with that thing we all need to avoid, which is pain. But, if you hold your breath, and keep holding it until you need to breath and then keep holding it after that, the sensation is very, very very unpleasant.

See, lads, drowing is painful -- basically you freak out and panic until the last moment, then you're calm. But before that it's torture.
Deathberries is the most dramatic, so yeah that one, if I'm going to go -- I'm going to go in style *hairflip*

[[lol ye. Idek, I got this year off on medical leave so it shouldn't be a huge issue, but still -- I'm meant to go up to aberdeen in a few days, so that's going to be an early start.]]
Violet didn't say much on the way there -- she was too giddy. Her world was starting to be built around her. She'd go back to high school, complete her last year. She'd go to university -- perhaps she'd do some thaumaturgy on the side! She'd get a house, with a garden she could plant in. She'd travel, go to every country, sampling every food! And then, of course, she could maybe one day have a family...but that was a long way off yet.
Before she knew it, she was on the ferry -- having bought tickets with Desmond's credit card he'd left in her pocket. So silly to think of Desmond having a credit card. She still presumed he paid for everything in bags of gold or something else appropriately archaic.
Suddenly, they were all on the boat with swarms of noisy, excited passengers all lining up for breakfast. Violet could, but didn't need to eat, of course. So instead, she made her way to the bar. The good thing about boats, was that the bar was open all the time. Even at 9 AM in the morning.
"Two white russians with a shot of chocolate liqueur," she said. The tender looked at her skeptically, then asked for ID. Violet flicked her provisional licence out on the table. He picked up the card and cocked one eyebrow.
"1970? Yeah right kid, get lost, you're clearly not fifty years old," he said before moving away to serve another customer. Violet was speechless in fury. Thirty years in that godsforsaken tower and now she's being denied her favourite drink?! Last time she made it she had to steal her boyfriend's dad's kahlua. She wondered how Caden was doing now -- he could be a grandfather for all she knew.
With cheeks slightly tinged with red, she departed to go find Liam. Gods, this was embarrassing.
"So, um, is there any way you could like, do me a favour? It's stupid, really. But I've been in that tower so long. Except that one time I helped imprison your parents. But ANYWAY, um, sorry, ehh..."
"...could you buy me a drink? That idiot won't accept my ID..." she held up the card and pointed to the '1970' birth date.

Well, the science behind dreams and sleep (ironic that I'm discussing this because I literally just woke up from a night where I had a dream about my psych lecturer who taught on dreams and sleep theories) is still hotly debated. But, if we go with the idea that you remember everything -- it's just all locked in your subconscious -- you literally could have heard the word passing a tv, in a pub, in an airport, where you were so focused on your holiday you failed to take it into your conscious mind. After a little research, unless you're dad is from or has gone to certain countries in Africa, the middle east, the South Americas or India, he's highly unlikely to contract it. Also, the mouth kind of it seems to come after the skin kind? So unless he's had the skin kind... But, no doubt, he will be getting checked out for it. If he's traveled anywhere recently too, they'll be being more through with tropical diseases. Or, it might just be some gum infection or something, idek. Either way, weird, but hopefully it won't be the weird sandfly thing

Violet giggled, then started to stroll up the beach -- hopefully they could catch the next ferry if they hurried. Thank god she was wearing good shoes.
"Oh, don't worry!" Violet said -- of course, anything bad had suddenly turned into sunshine and rainbows in the face of potentially becoming human again. "You can teach me what humans do -- and you can join Aurora in telling me all about the tv phones and everything like that."

“We’ll be fine!” Violet declared, before grabbing onto Aurora’s hands and spinning her around -- absolutely loopy in her happiness.
“Don’t you realise what this means? I can be normal again! A human! No fear of accidentally murdering you for your A neg low white cell count iron medium blood!” she declared, not even caring she’d revealed how much she thought about Aurora’s blood before.
“I...I might be able to have normal things,” she said quietly, suddenly stopping and looking off some distance away.
“Speaking of normal people, where’s Liam? He should come with us -- might be handy to have someone who can explode things by our side.”

Most people hated the sound of a blade against a whetstone. Aed however, loved it. That low growl of protest that came from the stone, combined with the high pitched zing of the blade -- as if it was relishing in the stone’s anguish -- was better than most forms of music to the man. Perhaps that’s why he spent most of his time down in the basement levels -- sharpening blades, practicing with them, or just, simply, taking in the atmosphere of the basement to Lortüth’s mansion.
The modern levels looked like they belonged to a criminal overlord -- swish, modern open plan living rooms. Pool tables, and surround-sound speakers. Hot tubs and dance floors. Lots of pretty girls -- with low cut tops and the cans to match, all giggling and drinking as they fell into the arms of one of Lortüth’s many sons -- or, if they were especially unlucky, the wolf himself.
But the basement levels did truly look like they belonged to the King of Wolves. There was no smooth plaster on the walls -- no open plan. Instead, the ‘basement’ was really just a catacomb of caves, connected by tunnels. It was a dreadful security risk really, which was why Lortüth never complained that Aed spent all his time down here. His best security agent really should be guarding his most precious possession.
For it was down here, in the basement, that Lortüth kept just that. Amongst the dripping wax candles that lit the main chamber, set on a black marble alter that sat upon the gravel of the ground, was the moon-rock. It was a pretty stupid name for something so incredibly significant. There were a few similar like it on the planet today -- but, none as powerful as Lortüth’s.
It gave control to werewolves on the full moon -- although Aed always felt irritable on the night anyway. Although, it had other, more subtle benefits as well; there was a connection with Lortüth that none of them would’ve had if they hadn’t been a pack with a moon-rock. It kept his beta’s strong, but submissive -- and loyal too.
Well, except for Aed. He didn’t know if it was because he’d forced him to be with him. Maybe, if he’d asked it would’ve been different. But no, Lortüth just forced the bite upon Aed. However, in all honesty, Aedán loved being a werewolf -- every bit of it; the strength, the speed, the healing, the belonging. He also loved being trained to kill too. No, he wasn’t afraid of it. Taking life made sense to him -- he didn’t ‘relish’ in it, but saw it as his duty -- his identity, even. My, how disappointed his mother would’ve been.
But what his identity was not in, was Lortüth. It never was, from the start. It was only about what the alpha could give him, not what Aed could give to him. God, he wished he could be free -- he’d quite happily rip the King’s throat from his neck. That would be the one kill he relished in. Yet, it could only ever be a fantasy. The man had eight sons, who’d be loyal to him even if they weren’t bound by wolf-blood. Outside of that, he had another eight close friends who ‘advised’ the pack. Then, there was the twelve beta’s, of which Aed was one. Even by wolf standards, it was a huge pack.
The thought irritated him more and more, until eventually he stood up from his whetstone stool, and put the blade on the rack. It was a war-axe -- titanium made, clean and well kept like the other five that lay beside it. For a moment, Aed caught a sight of his reflection in the blade; his eyes like ice in the middle of his desert-sand skin. He’d always detested his freckles -- they make him look like a child. He had some twine on his wrist, that he used to tie back the sides of his rippled hickory-brown hair. It was something he did before practice.
Then, in a fluid, powerful motion he took an axe from the rack and threw it at the target he’d daringly set up right beside the moon-rock. Perhaps if he destroyed the thing, he’d have the courage to kill Lortüth, even if it meant he’d die in the process.
It landed in the centre of the target, slicing right through the wood. He wasn’t satisfied. Again, he tried -- an inch to the left of it, nearer the moon rock. Again…
Then it came to him -- the smell flooding through his senses and into his very veins. Not from upstairs. But down here. Not pack.
“A threat,” he whispered out loud, before silently putting the axe back on the rack, picking the blade from his boot and walking on soft, bare feet towards the tunnel entrance it came from -- hoping his quarry would not be too far away.

"Basically, they want us to go get a weird magical artefact from a mountaintop so that the sirens won't die whilst giving birth," Aurora explained. "Otherwise, they're going to kill us all, which isn't a very pleasant sounding idea and I don't want my weekend ruined, so we should probably go and get the artefact." Desmond winced. "I know what you speak of -- there was this vampire, who was also uncharacteristically good at thaumaturgy -- called Elsbeth White -- but that's not important. Essentially, when she was burnt at the stake, a secret order collected her ashes. They have remarkable healing powers -- a mere teaspoon has been known to cure cancer -- it might even be..." He looked at Violet. Suddenly, her eyes lit up. She couldn't stop breathing fast -- perhaps there was hope for her after all... "But none of this matters, because I can't allow you to take the ashes. The mermaids would be furious. It would start a wa--" He went silent, the cogs of his mind working in thought again. "...Unless, per chance, the sirens seduced three innocent young minds -- who didn't know any better -- into getting them for them. That, the mermaids could forgive..." He smiled. It was decided. "I can't go with you. But will provide you with aid -- and the location. Get to Ben Nevis -- climb 3/4 of the way up the mountain -- find the cave. Your best bet is not to inform the order of your intentions, but if you get caught, don't worry. They are a forgiving lot. I'll leave you supplies with the touristy office near the mountain. Now, hurry! The Tiree Ferry leaves in an hour," he said, and with that he was gone -- vanished.

Violet cackled. "My mother was a midwife once, you know -- in 1695. She was very young. Apparently, she made millions selling placentas to rich old vampires -- who knew they were so into that," she said absent-minded, before happily wading back to shore where a worried Desmond was pacing up and down.
"Well?" he asked them both. "What happened?"
"After you," Violet said, looking at Aurora, hoping that the doctor would like the plan better if he heard it from his apprentice.

[[woot]]
he siren slid underneath the water. Violet just stood there -- in a limbo state. Not knowing what would happen next. It wasn’t pleasant. She never thought she’d wish for the tower again…
But beside her, she could see the fear in Aurora’s eyes. Her hand slid under the water line and knitted her fingers into Aurora’s fingers and gave her a firm look. “It’s going to be okay,” she said -- sounding much more confident than she actually felt.
Then, the siren popped her head up again -- making Violet jump slightly.
“Sirens die when...making babies.”
Violet turned bright red.
“having babies,” the siren corrected, and the vampiress felt a little more comfortable.
“Too much...blood. Up high mountain in this land is treasure -- magic remains of powerful witch-vampire -- remains...enchanted. They will stop siren death from having babies.”
“Bring to us!” the sea-monster commanded. “You have seven days.”
And with that, the creature left -- returning to her home in the depth of the ocean.
“Have you ever heard of such a thing?” Violet asked Aurora, looking bewildered.
