Faun sat up slowly, watching the shadows with a careful gaze. They couldn't see the pair yet; Samson had been lying a few feet away with a view of the rest of the alley while the other three were hidden behind a pile of boxes. She pulled her knife out of her inside pocket and tucked it into her waistband so it would be easier to reach, but hopefully she wouldn't have to use it. "Get out a weapon," she muttered, "but let them attack first." She packed her bag quickly and quietly, ready to run if they needed to. The faint conversation of the advancing threat reached her ears: "They're awake" "Not many of them, sounds like" "Big dog could be vicious..." "We can take em". From what Faun could hear it was just three men, around Cesaria's age. The pair had a few advantages; not only did they have Sampson, but their attackers wouldn't expect Faun to be as strong as she was, and no doubt Aria had some hidden talents too. She snapped her fingers and Sampson retreated to her side, hackles raised and teeth bared, then the intruders were upon them. "Well hello there ladies."

"You have my thanks, gracious lady." Faun made a low bow with a playful grin, then sat down on the most sturdy box she could find, Sampson laying down on flattened boxes beside her. "Your service is impeccable." Aiden hesitated. To tell him no would mean he'd ask where he was headed, to tell him yes would leave him lost and without a map, having missed his only chance of getting directions. Don't you just want to get away from him? ...No. He's... nice. And he's kind of cute. It got lonely traveling by yourself, and positive human contact was rare. He didn't really want to end it yet. He realized he'd hesitated far too long and gave a hurried answer. "No." "That's alright, I can show you the way back." Shiloh said with a smile then turned and made his way back over to the faint trail that he had been traveling down in the first place. "I assume you are just heading back to the city, if you want to go anywhere else I don't really know any other places to go around here." He said as he rubbed a hand over the back of his neck. He has only ever gone to the lake and the headed straight back. He has never gone farther than that in fear of getting in trouble with any officers tracking him through his chip.

{ sorry for being so inactive!! I'm painting a dresser & i dont want to get paint on the laptop } { it sounds like a weak excuse but issa long project & this is a borrowed laptop } C e s a r i a - Her heart wouldn't stop racing. Blood had flushed her cheeks, arms, and chest, making her hot. She wanted to run, to not look back, and part of her was about to swing her umbrella, hit someone upside the head, and do so. This could be it. If she was unconscious, bloodily unconscious, and someone called the emts, her life would be over. She'd be either sent to jail or back to her family, and at this point, she couldn't go to either. Slowly putting her jacket on and then forcing her umbrella out of her backpack, her hands shook while grasping to it desperately. Violence scared her more than she wanted to admit, especially with being a runaway.
The man kept tapping his against his side, staring out from the darkness at the two. His eyes had adjusted--he could see Aria practically shaking in fear, which put a malicious smirk on his face. She was clutching an umbrella, as if that would win her in a fight against his knife. Poor thing was so innocent looking, like a puppy at a slaughterhouse. He was going to wait for a signal, in case they tried to pay their way out.

it's okay! I poofed yesterday too)
Aiden took a moment to process this information, trying to decide whether he really wanted to go into the city or not. "Er, thank you." He'd already forgotten the directions Shiloh had given. He looked back at him again. "What city is this?" Stupid question.
Faun saw how terrified Aria was and her heart ached. Poor thing... Faun didn't fear death, nor imprisonment for that matter, but she did fear for her companion. She noticed the evil looks on their opponents faces and her fists clenched. "What do you want?" One of the men stepped forward with a leer. "Just a little supplies, that's all. Gotta pay for sleeping on Hawk territory." "Get lost." Faun was already prepared to kick both him and his two buddies in the face. "Well, darl, y'see, ya gotta give us somethin', have to hit ya if ya don't." "Then hit me, bitch." He did. And she hit right back. He clearly wasn't expecting such a small person to pack such a punch, and left his stomach unprotected. Faun took his hit to the shoulder, then took her own shot and sucker punched him in the gut, causing him to double over and fall, retching and coughing. She whirled around to face the other two, who hesitated for a moment. "Come on then. Haven't got all night." Her shoulder throbbed, but she wasn't about to lose to these idiots.

{ that's ok! life comes first } C e s a r i a ( & d u d e ?) - Cesaria couldn't help but freeze in fear, clutching her umbrella desperately. She did not want this to happen. Fighting was not something she did well, and she knew that she could easily die trying. But as the two men went at her new friend, she forced herself to snap out of her frigid fear. Aria's umbrella swung around, hitting one of the men as hard as she could in his knees before getting up, reading her weapon again. She packs a punch and a half. He readied himself, his fists clenching as he went towards her, swinging his fist. He had put his knife away for the time being, as he wanted to pull it out and surprise her if things got to that level.

With one of the men currently unable to fight, it made it a whole lot easier for Faun and Cesaria to hold their ground. Faun was still worried about her friend, but she couldn't afford to lose focus; her opponent had already brought out a knife. But he wasn't particularly good at wielding it. He stabbed forward, missing her by a mile, and opening himself up to get a hand brought down viciously on his forearm, making him hiss in pain. Faun jumped back before he could swing again, whipping out a knife of her own and making a sharp jab towards him. He dodged, then the pair circled each other, neither daring to make a move. Out of the corner of her eye, Faun saw Aria land a powerful hit on her opponent and she felt a surge of pride. Perhaps they'd win this fight after all.

{ it's all good! I do have to warn u that my activity over the next few days might be slim to none. my dad is in the hospital (he's ok! but bc he's in chemo, they want to keep an eye on him) so I'm in charge of my little brother while Mom is with dad } C e s a r i a - There was still the shock and fear that she had hit someone kicking in as she held her umbrella, her hands shaking ever so slightly. The man looked at her, getting up quickly. She squeaked, clutching the surprisingly sturdy object. He took off at her, his hand swinging around for a punch. Aria tried to hit it with her umbrella, but instead, took it to the stomach, stumbling back and hitting the wall. He approached on her quickly, and she she put the pointy part of the umbrella towards him, hitting him in the stomach. It wouldn't do much damage, but it allowed her to dart around him, raising her umbrella to hit him onto the spine. He quickly avoided her by jumping to the side, kicking her leg and consequentially making her fall. Aria and her umbrella had put up quite a fight, and she wasn't ready to go down, but she couldn't help but yelp as someone was on top of her, the only thing stopping him from laying a fist on her cheek being her squirming and shifting her head furiously.

{ ty for understanding <3 } C e s a r i a - She yelped as his fist hit the side of her face, and she desperately squirmed, trying to get free of his grip. He was actually quite heavy, and she wasn't actually that strong. There was a knife sticking out of his pocket, and in the panic, she grabbed it away from him, throwing it across the alley instead of using it herself, now using both of her hands to fight back against her attacker. Meanwhile, Ruffis had decided to help his owner, biting down as hard as he could on the dude's arm, barking at him loudly. The distraction and pain of having a dog attack a person gave Aria the chance to slip out of his grasp, grabbing her umbrella and swinging it around to hit him on the head as hard as she could, crawling on the ground away from him. She tried her best to ignore the metalic taste in her mouth, just hitting him with her umbrella until he collapsed, Ruffis standing behind her in fear, despite having laid a hit on the dude.

C e s a r i a - She had time to put on her jacket, rapidly packing her bag and buttoning the jacket just enough to shove Ruffis into it. This all had happened in a swift, panicked minute, as Faun finished off the last guy. There was barely enough time for her to witness the stabbing--But she did, wide-eyed and holding her dog with one shaking arm. Her umbrella stuck out of the top of her backpack, but she didn't care at this point. Faun grabbed her hand and Aria's eyes stared at her before her fingers wrapped right back around Faun's hand, lacing them together, nodding once. "L-Let's." Her voice was clearly shaken, terror coursing through it.

He'd already forgotten the directions Shiloh had given. He looked back at him again. "What city is this?" Stupid question. (Sorry for not being on, work has been keeping me busy) "It's no problem." Shiloh said to him with a smile and nod. He then started to walk down the trail to get out of the forest, expecting Aiden to follow him. He glanced back at the other man when he asked what city this was. That was kind of an odd question, but he was still going to answer. "Oh, it's Oredence." He answered him.

so I was thinking maybe each city and its limits has its own artificially induced time zone? and everything out of city limits has the same time zone. then each city has its own specialty (like maybe one has mostly android citizens, another supplies other cities with gold, another is known for having rich soil etc) so the cities are more like tiny countries? and that's why fugitives would want to avoid/go to specific cities)
Faun felt bad for putting Aria in such a difficult situation. Clearly she wasn't as accustomed to violence as Faun herself. She slipped her knife back into her pocket, doing her best to prevent Aria from seeing it, and ran without turning back. As they passed, she glanced up at the clock tower. Two in the morning, which hopefully meant the streets would be cop-free. Not that it mattered now, all Faun wanted was to get out of the city.
"Oredence..." City of [since Shiloh is from there u can choose what the specialty is]. Okay, that was fine. What wasn't fine was the flashing blue and red lights coming up in the distance. Chip checkpoint. Shit. Aiden slowed his pace, mind racing. If he stopped, Shiloh would immediately get suspicious and report him to the authorities. If he continued... No, he wasn't letting himself get arrested. Not when he'd come this far. He picked Gertrude up and put her in her bag, adjusting his bag straps and pulling up his hood. He'd have to run at exactly the right time or it'd all be over.

{ I love that sm!!! } C e s a r i a - She didn't actually run as fast as she could--With one hand in Faun's, the other holding Ruffis to her chest, she wanted to just keep pace with her. Her heart was racing as if she had run a marathon, though. God, it had just happened and it already felt like such a blur in her memory. All she could really feel was adrenaline now, her mind focused on the task of getting the hell out of town. There was a certain proudness, buried deep, deep within Aria. They, two young girls, had fought and won against a gang. Her dog stood up for her. She stood up for herself. There was so much to be proud of, hence the twinge of pride she felt. But there was also guilt at hurting people. Point being, there were so many emotions were being drowned out by her strong heartbeat and her adrenaline that she probably didn't even realize what was going through her own head.
So Aria just kept running, kept holding onto Faun. She just kept going, desperate to get the both of them to safety at this point.

{ I totally get that! if u need any ideas I'd be happy to ponder over a few things to contribute! } C e s a r i a - She looked at her companion, still clinging to her hand like it was her only lifeline. Her eyes were huge, her let down hair an absolute mess. Her lips and cheeks were bright red, hinting at an upcoming bruise. She had to actually think about if she had enjoyed it, and in that moment, she did. There was a feeling of life in her, exhilaration coursing through her veins. Sure, she probably never wanted to do it again, but in that moment, she had won. She was victorious. They had won together, they had escaped. Aria stared at Faun for a moment, her smile making her heart beat faster than it already was. "It was terrifying. But like... an okay kind of terrifying?" A smile slowly started to form on her face, and she relaxed her grip. She still had blood in her mouth, which made her think a tooth had shifted, but at this point, it was just a battle wound. "I won a fight! I didn't know I could do that!! You won a fight! We got out! I feel like I could do anything!"
The likelyhood of that feeling lasting was slim. She had been raised to be prim and proper, not to fight, so certainly, once she realized that she had actually caused damage, she would be racked with guilt. But as of right now, she just felt strong, which was something that she was told she wouldn't be. It was always going to be a man that would protect her, that she would marry. So she grinned, ear to ear, as she stood there, holding hands with a girl after protecting herself. Suck it, Mom. I'm a gay badass.

{ SAME SKSKKSKS } { okey dokey, I'll let u know! } C e s a r i a - She allowed herself to giggle, brushing her hair behind her ear. The praise made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside--It wasn't something she'd get used to, because it had happened lots of times, but it always felt amazing to get praised. "Thank you!" She paused for a moment. "I think that's for the best. I'll get too cocky if I go into another fight right now, and I think my advantage was soley based on the fact that I was doing everything at an absolute random, so he couldn't predict where I was going to go. Because I didn't know where I was going to go." She rambled, but only because the adrenaline was still there. It was still way too shocking to her that she had won against someone that knew how to fight. Granted, she was proabably right. Her movements were sporadic and her hits undirected.
She followed Faun's eyes to her stomach, her own turning. She had gotten hurt. A chill seemed to come over Aria, mostly engulfing her with fear for her new friend. How could she have not noticed? She was too busy rambling on about how proud she was of herself that she hadn't noticed her own friend hurt? Scolding herself, her eyes shifted to worried as she looked at Faun. "We should get that patched up. Thank God you got bandaids earlier, right?" She tried her best to joke, but it was getting increasingly obvious that she was concerned about her. Aria wasn't really one to judge how bad a wound was, because she had, for the most part, stayed out of fights and injuring herself. But from what she could see, there was blood and blood = bad.

{ that sounds cool, more allure to be in a city rather than out of. do u think they're genetically modified or have any modifications? maybe failed experiments? or even just genetically modified to be more scary by the government so people stay in their cities? } C e s a r i a - She wasn't quite sure about it just being a scratch, but she wasn't exactly sure how to refute the injured person saying that it was okay. After all, she probably knew much better than Aria did about the wound. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, She told herself. I mean if she ran all this way, it should be okay. I can't believe I didn't think of that. Don't be an idiot, Ari, not in front of your new friend, She hissed at herself internally, but kept most of her struggles just that--Internal. She opened her jacket and quickly put Ruffis down, popping a squat to make sure that he landed safely. When he did, she stood up again, and he stood by her feet.
Upon her question, she paused. She had been considering going to Lense, a city known for bringing new technology to the country. Security was tight, but she wanted to go despite that. Selfishly, she wanted to steal a phone and take it's tracking system out. Download a few apps, be on her way. She had had a phone at home, and she missed using one when days got long. That's not even including that they had absolutely gorgeous architecture. They had some of the most unique buildings in the country, which always drew Cesaria to it. Had she not been a runaway, she would've wanted to have gone into architecture. But as mentioned, security was tight. Drones were active constantly, chip scans were more frequent, and they had the tech to be able to follow them for a bit without them knowing. It was too risky to actually stop, but she had considered it, more as a tourist destination, though. "Not really," She admitted, shrugging. "I've always wanted to go to Lense, so I've considered going there, but honestly, it's too risky. I went there with my parents once because that was where Father's headquarters were, and it was insane the amount of security they had. A lot of it was experimental, but when I was in a mall, I tried to show my brother something too close to the entrance and alarms sounded and took a decent-quality picture of my face within seconds. It was insane, Father showed me all the ins-and-outs of their system." Oh, yeah, and another reason not to stop was because her parents were there, often. If anyone were to recognize her, ever, it would be her family or multiple security guards of.

maybe there's a mix? like the aggressive ones are the genetically modified successes by the government, the failures are the placid ones that also have weird physical attributes, then any others can be the same/evolutions of animals we have today (except for the extinct ones which can just be random species))
"But not enough ins and outs to know how to deactivate it, I'm assuming." Faun pursed her lips in thought. "Pretty big risk, don't ya think?" She'd usually gone out of her way to avoid Lense, what with the advanced security systems and all, but if Aria really needed to go... "What do you need to go for?" They needed to decide if whatever she needed was worth the risk, which Faun doubted it was. What was worth sacrificing your entire existence to become a prisoner or be executed for? Sure, they weren't well-known fugitives, but it only took one chip checkpoint for people to figure that out.

{ ooh, that'd be cooler, I like that. you'd never really know what ur gettin' when u see a new creature }
C e s a r i a - She clicked her tongue a few times. Aria was quite tech savy, since her father ran most of the companies. She could potentially deactivate one, but it would take her a bit of time to figure out the newer systems. His company was constantly improving, so it surely wasn't the same version that she had watched him and his team design. Her brother, Cesare, was way better at tech than she was. If they had him, their lives would arguably be much easier. However, she hadn't seen her brother in years, and had absolutely no contact to him. And who was to say he'd abandon his life with her rich parents to join his not-rich, on the run sister? Slim to none. "It's more than a risk, it's like, six riskes." Incorrect grammar only added to her exaggeration.
"Honestly, I wouldn't take it," She admitted, scratching the back of her head. She didn't state exactly what she wanted to go there for, casually dancing around the question. It wasn't that she didn't want to answer, it was moreso that she was embarrassed of her answer. If she told the truth, she'd be telling Faun that she kind of hoped to run into her family. She still loved them to death, despite their complicated relationship. Besides, Cesare wasn't just her brother, he was her twin brother. Not a huge difference, except for their bond was much stronger than she was connected to most anyone else. Leaving that relationship was harder than leaving her parents. "It's dumb anyways. Let's go find somewhere to set up shop for the night." She rubbed the side of her face a bit, starting to feel the soreness.

{ yeah, i think so. maybe a little plot update too so they don't have to read through to be up to date? } C e s a r i a - Relieved that she didn't press into it, her shoulders seemed to relax. Aria liked Faun, but she wasn't quite ready to dig into her homesickness and family. That seemed like a second day kind of conversation. She pulled her jacket more over her, feeling a bit more of the night chill that generally passed by. Cities tended to be warmer than the inbetween. She wasn't sure if it was just the extra bodies that made it warmer, the energy in the cities, or whatever, but it was always warmer there than out here. At least, that's what she felt applied, anyways. Maybe the extra two bodies on her journey would make it warmer, though she felt like the body count had to be in the thousands to make a difference. Ari listened to her companion talk, and thought about it for a moment. She could try, but the moment she shifted and fell out would not be a fun time for either of them.
"I'l probably fall out of a tree, if I'm being honest. I tend to shift in my sleep unless I'm held, but I've had people say I still move. I can stay on the ground with the dogs," She offered, a gentle smile being sent in her direction before her warm, dark brown eyes looked at Ruffis calmly as she mentioned dogs. He seemed just as tired as she was--He was even leaning against Aria a little bit, which she found to be just about the cutest thing in the entire universe. She bent down once more and picked him up, hiding him back in her jacket so he could rest. It was his first fight, too, that wasn't with one of his toys.

{ you're good! } C e s a r i a - She smiled softly as she said she'd join her on the ground. It wasn't going to be lonely if she had slept in a tree, the two dogs would keep her lots of company. But it was nice to know that she willingly wanted to stay with Cesaria, even if that was the bare minimum. Besides, she didn't mind having her company one bit. "That seems like a good idea," She commented on the deciding where they were going. "I think I'm still a bit... what's the word... confused? No--Shaken up, I suppose, by the whole night. I'll be able to think rationally in the morning." Aria did think better in the mornings. Her, late at night, wasn't exactly the most intelligent being when all she wanted to do and all she could think of was curling up into a soft mattress and falling asleep for the rest of the eternity.

C e s a r i a - As Ari nodded along, she began to nod off in her place. The adrenaline had died down, and left her with the leftover exhaustion from fighting, running, having that much adrenaline, and waking up at two/three in the morning. It was all catching up to her faster than she could get away from it, and she allowed herself to yawn. "I guess so." She looked around slowly, her eyes dragging across the terrain. Anywhere would be good to sleep for her right now, but she needed to think about this rationally. One of the worst parts about being a runaway was that she always had to think rationally, especially when she was tired. She had to watch her decisions and make sure that she wouldn't be found out or killed because of them. Upon realizing that she couldn't just sit down and fall asleep, she started walking.
Sleeping was actually one of the more difficult aspects. She wasn't active, so she needed a place that was easy to run away from if she needed to, but also concealed her and Ruffis pretty well. However, now she had the added person and added dog. They had gotten far enough out to be well consealed, and after a minute or so of walking, there was a small area that was surrounded with trees, but was clear for the most part. "This looks like a good place to settle down, and I don't want to walk anymore, so I'm just gonna... I'm gonna take a nap. My gay badassery has worn me out. Not to say that I don't appreciate it for miraculously jumping out, but it's tiring being an iconic symbol of freedom." Aria murmered, not exactly remembering that the basis of her joke was a conversation that she had with herself, rather than Faun. She put Ruffis on the ground along with her bag, taking off her jacket to use as a blanket. She arranged all her things in a very orderly manner, focused on the task of building a bed.

{ i don't find them difficult at all!! i might not write a lot today bc I am exhausted beyond my days lmao }
C e s a r i a - She giggled at her talking, sleepily registering everything that she said at a much slower pace. She listened to the extent that she could with herself being this tired. Once she had lied down, it was all over for Cesaria. With Ruffis curled up to her and a safe view of Faun, she felt safe, at home, and like she could pass out and sleep for the rest of the month. "You're not just sidekick. We're a team. Like... The Fantastic Four, but two of them are dogs and we have no powers." She smiled at her gently, yawning and flopping back. "But goodnight to you too, Miss Liberty. Sweet dreams..." Aria mumbled before her eyes weighed down on her, shutting slowly. It wasn't long before she was out cold, breathing shallowly.
