𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛Dakar studied the rabbit for another moment, and war twitching. "Well, I like to say that all stories are based on some sort of truth." In most cases. "You seem smart enough though, and can probably tell what is and isn't. If I had one piece of advice for you though... it would be to pay attention just a bit more. You might just end up finding what you're looking for, sooner than you would think." He found that a great many people missed things because they were much too focused on finding it, as odd as that sounded. Just like Akriel at the moment, though Dakar not telling him would also be a contributing factor. Never once had he told anyone who he was, the only ones who knew being the Mythicals and his previous apprentice, who pieced it together themselves. Smiling gently, he just turned and said "If you'll excuse me for a moment, Mog is probably wondering why I haven't picked up my other pastries yet." Leaving his wrapped cookies at the table, he got up and walked back to the counter, kindly talking with the turtle before watching her collect what he had asked for earlier.

Hawkeyes258 The king snorted. "It better be interesting, or else I will make it interesting." Ooh, maybe he could add other tasks to the tournament instead of fighting. He had done that before, adding tasks from climbing to races, though there were always twists. Like making the run with no protective layers, or making the climb up a gigantic ice wall that could break apart at the slightest misstep. "Well, some more planning can be done before it is announced to the public, I suppose. " Sabre slowly nodded his head. There was much to do and many things to take care of. Either way, he couldn't wait wait for the tournament to actually start. He might participate in a special little event. He wasn't sure what but he wanted a chance to show off his strength.

I have two open characters as well, if anyone is interested.)
Akriel tilted his head, what did that mean? He was missing something right in front of him? Based on their conversation Akriel was forced to assume it was something about the lion himself. He hadn't given the rabbit a name, he seemed to know a lot about the old magics, and he... liked pastries? Akriel shook his head slowly, that last one probably wasn't important. Now, he couldn't just assume things. Many people knew about the old magics. Even Akriel himself knew a fair amount. His first assumption was that the lion was just a scholar like him, but then it wouldn't make sense why he didn't share his name. Most scholars Akriel had met were more than happy to tell him all they knew. Flexing their 'mental muscles'. He sighed and watched the lion carefully. Something was just out of his reach, he knew it!

Eri was sitting at her stand when another person rushed by. She had to hurry and pull one of her more delicate objects back from it. She didn't call out or anything, knowing she had been the one to place it so close to the edge. Instead she just set it closer to herself. Being a travelling merchant was dandy and all, but on days like this when she got few customers it was nothing but a drag. The bat sighed and leaned back against her bag she'd set against the wall and studied her wares. There were trinkets from nearly every town and kingdom. From jewelry to weapons she had it all, just not a lot of each. Since she traveled alone she could only take with her what she could carry. Since she could fly she had more options but it was still limited. Hopefully someone would come along soon. After all, the only thing she had sold that day was a small knife with a sapphire set in the handle.
The sun reflected nicely off Gales new knife. It wasn't going to be much use in a battle, but the sapphire had caught his eye and it was being sold at a nice price. He sheathed it and placed it in his bag before someone walked into it and made him pay for the damages. Gales tail swished behind him as he walked along the carts and set ups merchants had all along the street. The smell of food was making his mouth water and he hadn't even had anything to eat yet. This was the perfect chance! The marketplace sold things for fantastic prices if you knew where to look. These are the starters I posted before, but if you can't work off of them or have a different idea please let me know! They are both in Crowns Hand.)

𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 Dakar collected the pastries with a thank you before walking back over to the table. The lion licked his lips at the sight, two peach tarts. One of his favorites. He would save them for later though, as he already had some sweets earlier. In the box Mog had given, he put the cookies on the bottom and the tarts on tops. After closing the box, he finally looked up at Akriel again. "So focused now," he chuckled "It flatters me." He smiled slightly. "Overthinking it is rather easy to do, Akriel." Though maybe it seemed so unlikely to the rabbit that a lion looking to be in his twenties was an old fart. The thought made him chuckle, gold eyes sparkling with amusement. "Take your time though... I've come to find that I have plenty over the years." He could literally do his "job" wherever he went, and was actually doing it right now, almost entirely subconsciously. If he had ever wanted to still get around and live life like a regular person, more or less, it was a task he indeed needed to learn, lest he be sitting in his study forever, as old age would never claim his life. As he mulled it all over, his gaze never left Akriel, expression giving nothing away besides some amusement as he watched the rabbit.

Well, it wasn't snow, but the cool waters of the small creek were enough to cool off Buk. He shook his head, dispersing the droplets from his face with a gasp. He was just off the main road, on the way to Crown's Hand, and cooling off his body. Wolverine fur was thick, and so leaving the northern climate he was acclimated to was having a toll on his body. Now he stood, glancing around for dangers. He spotted someone along the road, much further back. They must be going for Crown's Hand as well, if taking this road. Perhaps they have food. His stomach seemed to ask, with a growl. He swallowed his pride, and stepped up from the creekside onto the road, to greet the stranger.

Akriels ears flicked at Dakars words. Time, lion, old magics. His eyes widened slowly and his head whipped to face Dakar. No, there was no way. That was far too easy, after all this time searching he couldn't possibly have stumbled upon the one person he was looking for. It made no sense! But what if he was right, what if this was Ashadakar? Akriel slowly stood up and looked over the lion again before saying "Are you? No... you couldn't be. But if you were..."
Eri walked along the road, humming softly to herself as she walked. It had been a good day. She'd flown down to the nearest town and had sold a few items. Her bag was full of coins and her load was lighter. To appreciate all the free time she had for the day, since she had already sold enough, Eri had decided to walk back to Crowns Hand instead of flying like she normally would. The bat was always seen zipping around, so she took the chance to rest. As she rounded a corner she noticed someone standing on the side of the road. A customer! She quickened her pace "Hello! You look like you have some cash burning a hole in your pocket. Would you be interested in taking a look at my wares?"

She wasn't bad looking (certainly wasn't a northern woman, bless their hearts), but as bats went... Ah, he had promised himself no romantic entanglement here. After conspicuously taking her in, he nodded and met her gaze. "Yes. I am. I'm looking to add to my rations. I'm a wolverine, a carnivore." Bats were bugeaters primarily, right? He'd survive on that if he had to, but that wouldn't get him through much time.

Idk what kind of money system we're using whoops lol)
"So you're looking for some meat! Well, you're lucky that I have some dried meat in my possession right now." she pulled out a smaller bag from her larger one she was carrying and held it up so the wolverine could see "A spice blend featuring cracked black pepper and sea salt. It was rubbed into thick cuts of meat then dried to perfection. Truly a steal. Though I'm sure you can tell. I'd be willing to part with it for ten silver pieces." meat was expensive no matter where you went, and ten silvers for a bag of jerky was a discount "I do have a second bag, and if you bought them both now I'd give you an even further discount at fifteen silver pieces."

𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 Dakar tilted his head. "Many like to think the Keeper and the Mythicals look like old farts, but we age quite well. Hei Lung looks to be only in his forties, despite the white fur." He chuckled again, looking down at his box of treats. "Tell me, what were you expecting to see?" Maybe some flashy lion with fine silks and a dense aura. That was really only when he was alone or with one of the other elder entities. Looking away, he rubbed his chin, claws retracting. "I prefer not to flaunt while in public. It attracts much unwanted attention. People who want to know things in time can go see fortunetellers and soothsayers." Running a hand through his mane, his ears twitched and he continued "You're quite a curious young man, Akriel, which makes you for attuned to magic."

Fifteen for two bags? That would certainly get him to his destination. He reached into his bag with a smile, and discovered he had only nine silver pieces. Buk's face must've paled then, for just a moment. Then, he had an idea. "I have nine pieces. But, I have a proposition." He patted the hilt of his sword at his side, and then the hilt of his axe on his back. "I'm an exceptional fighter. I've defeated bands of renegades single-handedly. I'm willing to offer my skills as a guard, then, for you. For those two bags, which will be enough food to get to Crown's Hand." With a shrug, he added, "Which I assume is your destination as well?" Buk was indeed one of the best. But he overestimated his wealth. In order to be worth the investment, he'd have to stay with her, even in Crown's Hand, as her guard even then. Which wasn't a problem- but he hadn't even considered it.

"I- Well, what I thought- I mean..." Akriel stuttered, trying to find his voice again. The rabbit took a breath and tried to calm his mind. Pushing his immense amount of questions to the side Akriel said, this time managing full sentences "I'm not sure what I was expecting. But I know for a fact I was not expecting to meet you in a bakers shop over sugar cookies. Not that there's anything wrong with that." he quickly added, remembering his manners "Why are you telling me this? Aren't you worried I'll go running out here now preaching about my experience?" Akriel wouldn't even consider it, but what made Ashadakar trust that? Most people would just scoff and tell a guard to throw him in the loony bin. Perhaps that was the reason why.
"Not enough money eh?" Eri said, her face giving away nothing but her tone sounding disappointed. It was obvious she wanted to get rid of the bags. When Buk brought up a proposition though she looked interested "I see... well from your outward appearance I can see that you have skill. But will it be enough?" she tapped her claw against her chin before nodding "Very well. But if you run, I'll be reporting you. I have connections everywhere so don't expect to get away. Oh! And if you happen to die I get to keep your armor and weapons to sell later. Deal?"

Buk grimaced. This meant she'd ask for his name. And he'd never wanted his weapons going to people who see them only as profit. But that was the case here, it seemed. "If you'd like to add another case, allow me to ask for a death case as well. Make sure I'm buried under a tree." He asked simply. Then, as if to seal the deal, he held out his arm outward to shake.

"Will do." She extended her own arm and shook "My name is Erebus, but you can call me Eri. I know just about every trail around here, and if you ever get some more money I have even more interesting items." she handed him the dried meat. And started to walk again. Eri had never had a travel companion before, much less a guard. Not that she couldn't handle herself, but not having to bloody her talons would be a nice change. If there was ever a challenge she couldn't beat she'd generally just fly away, but if this wolverine was as good as he said Eri might just have the chance to get the spoils of battle she'd generally have to leave behind.

𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 Dakar hummed, still speaking softly as he said "I don't need to look into the future to see you'll not tell. Though maybe that's just me assuming things, as revealing me without my permission would not bode well for you." Not that he would do anything. Anything serious anyway. A slight smile of mischief curled his lips, and he looked away again. "Trust is a valuable and rare thing these days, Akriel, though over the years I've learned to read people better than any book." Looking the rabbit over again, he looked thoughtful for a long moment. Just watching him as he thought something over. "Do you really have no other desire than just learning time magic?" He paused for another moment. "Maybe I can teach you some. Just some." Then, Akriel would be sent on his way. Dakar would never take another apprentice, worthy or not. There was no need for the time being.

"Bukrath. I also answer to the name Wrath." He also responded to Buk. But that was friendly terms. Not yet were they there. After a much stronger than he'd been expecting of the female, he followed beside her. Buk found it cumbersome to have a companion normally, but having someone else breaking the uneasy silence was welcome after a moment of consideration. Inside, he almost wished her to begin speaking, to ask him something. After all, he'd yet to experience many- his family wasn't good for that.

"I only want to learn, to fill that gaps. It bugs me to no end that I don't have all the facts." he looked excited that Dakar was willing to teach him "What's in it for you? I don't expect to be given lessons for nothing, and I doubt you would simply teach someone out of the goodness of your heart." nothing in this life was free. Everything came at a cost and Akriel was ready to do just about anything to learn. He waited for a reply, picking at the forgotten sugar cookie remains.
It was a good thing Eri was such a talker, the silence didn't last for long "So, Bukrath. What brings you to Crowns Hand? I'm sure someone with your fur doesn't wander down here all that often, considering the weather conditions." she gestured absently at the sky and the sun. It had taken Eri a long time to get comfortable in the sunlight as well, and even then she still preferred to travel at night. But as a merchant she couldn't just sit around all day "I don't have nearly as thick fur as you and even I resent the sun some days."

"I needed a change of scenery. And there's only so many rogue bands of outlaws up north for me to beat up." He joked. The truth of escaping his family was in there, somewhere, but he couldn't just admit it.

"Well you're not going to run out of new scenery around here. Or outlaws." she snorted, glancing at Buk as she talked "Just in town you can turn one corner and go from a busy street with a ton of merchants, to a nearly dead street with a sketchy looking store that sells charms to protect you from fur worms." people who made money on stuff like that were amazing. Stupid, but amazing. They had to have some serious talking skills to manage that.

"In a world filled with magical elements and charms used to raise the dead, you don't believe in such things?" Though he knew context was key, he was a devout man. His Saints were to whom he prayed in times of need. People pettled bones and pieces of their tunics and so on for plenty of money. And yet he carried many trinkets. Certainly he was the sort to fall victim to a ploy.

Eri thought this over before shrugging "I guess, but I don't think a charm is going to keep you safe from not cleaning your fur for a few weeks. At least I can admire their ability to swindle the unaware." Eri tapped her bag, making sure it was still there. A habit she'd picked up after years of travelling and not wanting to lose her money to thieves "I wouldn't risk doing it myself. They're far more likely to get shanked than I am. And gettin' stabbed would put a damper on my business."

𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛 Dakar shrugged his shoulders. "You have nothing I could possibly want, unless you've got even better sugar cookies than Mog." He didn't mean it in a bad way though, more in the sense that the lion had no desire for much things. Just to make sure the world kept going round correctly. "My only request is that you maintain some sense once you leave me. You are not to teach this magic to anyone, and believe me when I say I will know if you do. Understand?" He didn't sound aggressive at all, but his gentle semi-baritone still made you want to heed his words. Then, he got up, stretching a bit before collecting his box. "If you're up to it, how about we take a walk? I need to stretch my legs just a bit, if you don't mind."
