Sabre simply shrugged his shoulders. He was simply giving his opinion. "Anything really but a tournament could be a nice change of pace. Make the stakes and prizes high so that these newbies really push hard." He said with a wave of his paw. Course, this would all be up to the king.

Hm. A tournament did sound like a good idea the more and more he thought of it. "A tournament it is then. I will have word sent out so people can watch, and the losers are to be thrown over the cliff for their weakness." Yes, that sounded good. "What do you think? Or more so, what would your soldiers think?" He didn't even have to look to know the ones nearby were already nervous.

It was as busy as always in Crown's Hand, and Akriel struggled to hurry through the crowds pushing in on him as he attempted to go against the wave of animals. He was here for one reason and while he didn't want to be explicitly rude to everyone on the road they were just getting in his way at this point. Finally having enough of it all he took a turn into a less populated street and decided he'd go the long way. According to what he'd been told before there were some older people here that might know a thing or two about Ashadakar and his whereabouts. When he told someone that he was inquiring about his location, they usually would scoff at him and tell him that it was nothing but a story. But Akriel knew better. There was just something about it that continued to pull him on his quest to learn more. He passed a small stand that had a loud vendor and continued on.
Eri was sitting at her stand when another person rushed by. She had to hurry and pull one of her more delicate objects back from it. She didn't call out or anything, knowing she had been the one to place it so close to the edge. Instead she just set it closer to herself. Being a travelling merchant was dandy and all, but on days like this when she got few customers it was nothing but a drag. The bat sighed and leaned back against her bag she'd set against the wall and studied her wares. There were trinkets from nearly every town and kingdom. From jewelry to weapons she had it all, just not a lot of each. Since she traveled alone she could only take with her what she could carry. Since she could fly she had more options but it was still limited. Hopefully someone would come along soon. After all, the only thing she had sold that day was a small knife with a sapphire set in the handle.
The sun reflected nicely off Gales new knife. It wasn't going to be much use in a battle, but the sapphire had caught his eye and it was being sold at a nice price. He sheathed it and placed it in his bag before someone walked into it and made him pay for the damages. Gales tail swished behind him as he walked along the carts and set ups merchants had all along the street. The smell of food was making his mouth water and he hadn't even had anything to eat yet. This was the perfect chance! The marketplace sold things for fantastic prices if you knew where to look.

Ashadakar usually liked to be in his temple dressed in finer clothes, but when he went out, he usually only wore simple clothing and a cloak to easily conceal himself. When not wearing his normal attire, he looked like any other lion, though he considered himself a little more good-looking than most lions. Currently, he was walking through the marketplace of Crown's Hand, having had a craving for some pastries only a kind turtle named Mog could make. Quietly did he walk, paws pressing into the ground as gold eyes calmly looked around, studying the other people as they bustled about. If anyone knew who he was, he would surely get more attention than he'd like, and tons of people would ask to see the future or ask what his job was like. Sighing, he smiled as he finally saw Mog's little shop. Going inside, his nose twitched as he breathed in the smell of fresh bread and sweets. The old turtle noticed him, smiling as she said "Ah, good morning, sir! Back again?" Yeah, no one knew his name of course. He never gave it out, not even a fake name. Nodding, he smiled and said "There's only one place in mind when my sweet tooth is acting up. He walked up to see what the turtle had set out for display, deciding to try something new that day. As he looked, it felt nice to feel so... normal. To do normal things.

His first stop had been an old book store. Unfortunately the owner there hadn't been able to tell him anything he already knew. The second place Akriel had stopped was a medicine store that was run by an older animal. He had learned one or two new things, but again not what he was looking for. Finally he stopped by a bakery that he'd been told was run by an old turtle. She must have lived for a long time, so he figured they might know something that he didn't. And he could grab something to eat so it all worked out for him. The scent of fresh bread hit his senses and he walked over to the turtle, greeting her politely. He noticed another person in the store, noticing that they were a lion but not thinking much of it.

He noticed a rabbit walk into the store, but he of course didn't pay much attention. As he looked among the fresh pastries, he looked up at Mog added "I've also got some fresh sugar cookies in the making. Shouldn't be too long before they're out." Ashadakar seemed to perk up at that. He said "Well then, I'll go ahead and take... six of those, and these two tarts here." The turtle wrote down his order before letting Mog turn her attention to the rabbit. Mog smiled politely at Akriel, greeting "Hello, sir, sorry for the wait. There anything out here you like? I've also got sugar cookies coming out too, nice and fresh." As she talked with the rabbit, Dakar found a small table to sit at, just for the time it would take for those cookies to finish. As he sat, he listened to the few others in the bakery. They were talking about normal things; affairs, the best tailor to go to, a good cellist someone just listened to. Different, small things. He tuned in to a particular story though. A mother telling her twin boys about how Kalonymos tried to eat the sun every day. How he uncoiled and stretched as far as he could go, but it was only ever just short, and the leviathan could only lick the sun, which cooled down from his saliva. That was when the moon appeared, and then it turned back into the sun when it regained heat. When one of the boys asked if the beast would ever eat the sun, Dakar chuckled and spoke up "Something tells me it will always be just out of his reach."

"I'll have a sugar cookie then, thank you. And if you're not too busy I'd like to ask you a question or two." he also ordered a drink so he could have something to wash the cookie down with. His ears flicked when Ashadakar spoke up. Interesting, most people would just say it was a story. Perhaps the lion also knew something about the old stories... there was something about him that caught Akriels eye. He'd have to approach him later. For now he'd stick to asking the turtle "I wanted to ask if you knew anything about Ashadakar. I'll pay for any information you can give me." he hoped she'd be the type to either turn him down nicely for believing in 'stories' or actually have something to tell him.

The turtle blinked once as Akriel asked of Dakar. "Something tells me you're not looking for stories..." She tapped her chin thoughtfully as she tried to pull something from memory. Unlike most, she believed in such entities. "Well, I don't have much to say really. I'd believe it when told he's more elusive than Mythicals." She took a few minutes to disappear and get those cookies. Coming back, she added "It is also said he moves the sun and moon with his magic. Would take a pretty advanced tracking spell to trace it back to the user." Or maybe not, cause the scale of such power was so massive. She put some cookies in a clean paper wrapping. "Here you go, sir. Oh, and here's your one cookie." She had put Akriel's cookie on a napkin before getting the drink he had ordered as well. Dakar walked up to get his own cookies, he said "And what has you so interested in such matters, sir? Most would say it is childish to believe in stories. The only one's who'd believe you are Mog here and the priests up at the capitol's temple." He turned his gold gaze down to look at Akriel, genuinely curious to know why he was nosing around for such things. For him.

"The priest eh? Maybe I should ask them next..." he remembered he had to answer the question he'd been asked and continued "Well I've always been interested in the topic. Most people think they're just stories, but a lot of stories even the most wild and unbelievable ones stem from some sort of truth." he placed the payment for the cookie and drink on the counter and continued "I've always been interested in creatures with powerful magical abilities. I've seen all sorts of powers, but none of them have measured up to the ones we hear in ancient tales." Akriel could understand just about any ability given the time, so when he had heard of animals with legendary abilities of course it had caught his attention "I figured if I could find origin of the stories I could maybe learn about the abilities and maybe even pick up some tricks." his own power was useless unless he could find strong abilities that matched with his affinities.

Dakar tilted his head. So, this boy wanted to learn about the old magics. "Many believe that current generations will never achieve such power. It is not needed." As most liked to use weapons to do their killing nowadays. Walking over to a table to sit down, he unwrapped the cookies, smiling as he picked one up in a large hand. "Even then, I can guarantee you'll not find such an entity. Why not head up to the Fog? You look like you could fair well with aeromancy. I hear the Father Dragon will take in students who can make the trip." Maybe out of pity for the king trip up into high altitude. As he took a bite out of his sugar cookie, smiling at the sweet taste, he asked "Even if you do manage to come in contact with the Keeper, what makes you think you'll gain any lessons?" Akriel would definitely not be the first who tried to become his apprentice. All but one failed, and that one became twisted and corrupt. Sighing, he finished his first cookie and simply moved into the second. "It isn't good to always get your hopes up, especially for such slim chances, hm?" He looked at Akriel again with a raised brow.

"If I don't even try though then what's the point? Just because no one has ever seen the Keeper doesn't mean I should just give up." Akriel walked over, following Dakar so he could continue talking "I only need to see the Keeper use magic and I can get a good enough handle on it. I want to know what makes the old magics so unique, so powerful." he knew he sounded crazy. What kind of person would dedicate their life to tracking down a being that might not even exist? But Akriel knew there was something and if he didn't figure it out it would bother him for the rest of his life "Once my mind is set on something I guess I can't let it go." he said, calming himself down. Akriel realized it probably wasn't polite to be hassling this lion about his own dreams, but he just got excited when he talked about it.

The lion hummed. "Even if you learn such magic, you'd never reach the level of your teacher." Not within his lifetime anyway. Dakar was not immortal, using his manipulation of time to stop himself from only aging, but it took him quite a while to be where he was in terms of skill. "Same as Mythicals. No mortal will ever be even half the strength they possess, not even their offspring." He took another bite of the cookie, looking down at the treat for a moment. Dakar could understand wanting to find such ancient beings though. The strongest wielders of any magic were born in generations so far back. There were of course strong people in the newer generations, but the older ones valued and relied on magical strength much more. Finishing off the second cookie, he asked "Is it because you already have a knack for time magic that you go looking for him? If you don't show any aptitude for it, it can take twice as long to even get a lick of such magic to show." He had seen a great many people try, but time was a picky and difficult element to tap into. "And if not time magic, what spells and such do you know?" Most liked to believe that anyone could learn anything in terms of magic, but that was not true. You had to have the capacity to learn advanced magic to be able to use it, and even then it took practice.

I'm glad haha)
Akriel scratched the back of his head "Well, I haven't had a lot of time to learn new things, when it comes to magic." living as a poor orphan made you prioritize skills that would get you money so you could buy food. Magic, unfortunately, hadn't been one of them "But I have a skill that makes me a perfect candidate to look into it. I like to call it Ability Intuition." he moved so he could sit across the table from Dakar "Basically as long as I can see an ability in action I can understand the basics behind it and given the right time I can learn how to use it. Unfortunately you rarely see people these days with time altering magic so it's not like I could see if I'm good at it. How do you know so much anyways?" not many people looked further into the mythicals and Keeper. It was weird to see someone know a lot of the basics like he did.

𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛Dakar tilted his head. "Time is not something you can see, and technically can't measure it. Not really." In most cases, he supposed. When asked how he knew so much about it, he shrugged. Starting on another cookie, he continued "I studied up at Hei Lung's temple some years ago. Most of the monks worship the Keeper along with the Mythicals. I was curious, and they educated me." The part about the monks was true, as most of the monks treated the Keeper on almost as high a pedestal as the Mythicals. Chuckling, he said "I know, I don't look like I've been stuffing my nose in old books and meditating with the other monks." Most people who knew about older magics looked... well... older. Dakar looked to be in his twenties. Ah, if only Akriel knew. "And what has you so knowledgeable about such things, hm? I assume your interest has led you to study? Maybe done some traveling to find things out too?" He looked down at his cookie as he paused to let Akriel answer. So far, the rabbit sounded just like everyone else. Someone on a quest to learn rare magic, usually for their own benefit. "What would you find yourself doing, should you actually end up finding the Keeper and learn how to bend time and open portals?" This question would definitely help Dakar get a better read on Akriel's intentions, and he would know if he was lying.

Hawkeyes258The polar bear snorted. Keeping their lives should be prize enough, but he knew they'd be scared off at that. Weaklings. Huffing, he shrugged and said "I'm not sure. What are your suggestions on rewards, hm?" Nanuk turned to look down at Sabre as he waited for an answer.

Sabre couldn't help but be intimidated by Nanuk. The bear had the power to end his life with his own two hands. However, he learned long ago not to show weakness. "Perhaps, certain soldiers who win are granted special ranks or perks." He suggested flicking his tail.

Just a note that I'll be very inactive on Tuesdays and Thursdays as I have classes pretty much all day ^^ )
Akriel listened to Dakar talk about his studies, nodding slowly. When asked about his own intentions he paused, never actually having thought that far ahead "Hm, that's the first time I've been asked that... I guess, if by some stroke of luck I did manage to learn about the old magics, I'd have to find something else to take up my time?" he nibbled on his own cookie in thought before adding "I doubt I'd manage to master them in my life time. But if I did I'd no longer have to look for them. My curiosity would be satisfied and then I'd find something else that caught my eye to chase." Akriel didn't really have an alternative motive other than satisfying his own interest. It seemed selfish, he knew that, but what else was he going to do? So far his life had been driven by the curiosity and once that was gone... well he'd have a lot to think about if that ever came to be.

"Money always works." Sabre said with a small chuckle. As a mercenary, money pretty much dictated what he did. Granted, there were some things that he would never do. A part of him missed those days but being the general wasn't bad either. He looked back at the soldiers and noticed one cowering in front of a larger soldier. "Hey! On your knees soldier! Strike now!"

𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛Dakar hummed. "I don't think time will ever become boring. Not really. It constantly changes. Constantly moves. My mother used to tell me that without concept of time, there is no concept of life." Maybe there would be life without time, but he had not seen any desirable ones. "But what would I know? My information is quite dated. Maybe it's time I learned newer magics." Finishing another cookie, he licked his lips before looking around the shop. "Had you been older, I would say you are a religious man, looking for legends. For gods. However, I think your goal is to just... be curious. Not seeking power of gods, but the wonder that comes with them." Individuals like Akriel were hard to come by, people who really just wanted to learn. No motive, no malevolence or greed. "Tell me... what is your name, hm?" Turning back to him, his golden eyes studied him again, gaze patient and giving nothing away.

Hawkeyes258It wasn't until Nanuk looked at the soldier did the cowering man spring up and start fighting back. Or trying to. Snorting, he huffed "These trainees won't be ready to fight even an illness anytime soon, I swear. Good thing we are deciding on having a tournament. Maybe it'll draw in some weaklings and get rid of them during the fights." There was never a place for weakness or cowards in Jhotinai.

His information was dated? Jeez, how old was this lion? He aged incredibly well, if the way he was talking was any indication at an age. Akriel chided himself for judging on looks, Dakar was incredibly intelligent. Akriel could tell that just from the way he talked and carried himself. He said "Oh! I should have introduced myself earlier. My name is Akriel. And you are?" he took another bite of his cookie, finally having time to enjoy it since he managed to stop himself from blabbing his life story to the first poor soul who asked him about it. Though Dakar had been one of the few that let him talk without scoffing or insisting that his questions would never be answered.

𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛Dakar tilted his head a little. Akriel. Rolled off the tongue. The rabbit wasn't bad on the eyes either. Was that weird for him to think? He had gotten a little lost in thought, almost not registering words as Akriel asked him for his name in turn. Mmm... Dakar wasn't one to lie, so he would not give a fake name, but he could dish out any of his actual names still either. "... a friend," was his answer. He took some time to wrap the remaining cookies up for later. Ah, and he'd need to collect the pastries he had ordered prior. Teaching a hand to scratch his chin, the lion wondered if the rabbit had many friends. He had a hunch that he didn't judging by what he had been talking about. Most others besides the monks and the beings themselves would call Akriel nuts. "And where has Mr. Akriel been to, hm? A curious man has done a bit of traveling by your age." He then chuckled "Or maybe I should be asking what have you learned really. Seeming so interested in such things, I bet you've heard some very interesting stories, or I suppose to you they would be facts."

Hawkeyes258The king snorted. "It better be interesting, or else I will make it interesting." Ooh, maybe he could add other tasks to the tournament instead of fighting. He had done that before, adding tasks from climbing to races, though there were always twists. Like making the run with no protective layers, or making the climb up a gigantic ice wall that could break apart at the slightest misstep. "Well, some more planning can be done before it is announced to the public, I suppose. "

Honestly I was hoping to find something before then." everyone there was a bit... intense "As for what I've learned, I don't think I could say it in just a few sentences, but i've expanded my basic knowledge on the stories, and I've heard most of the varying lines and facts about them. It's a bit hard to pin down what's real and what truly is just story."
