Darkberry was sitting up in her nest grooming when Bearcloud had called. She didn't really go outside in the morning unless she was needed for something. She turned her head toward the big medicine cat and blinked. "I am," she said softly, stretching out her paws before padding outside to stand beside Bearcloud. "What is it?"

Oakstar sighed internally, her facade almost falling and showing her exasperation, but she manages to hold it. Just barely. Very barely.
"Oh, I must insist Trapjaw. What better cat could take Nightpaw for Hollybright today?" Maybe if she didn't mention the hunting thing he'd forget he'd tried to trade that for taking Nightpaw moss gathering. A cat could only hope, of course. She sent a sidelong, apologetic glance at Rainsong, the poor Queen having had to sit through this whole debacle - though, Oakstar doubted she minded much. This would probably've been funny had it been happening to literally any other cat then her.
But it was happening to her.
She nudged Trapjaw purposely then, tail gesturing pointedly towards Nightpaw, eyes pleading for him to give her mercy.

Wrenpaw watched his mentor go before looking into the herb hollow. Naming the herbs was the easy part, but now he actually had to remember what they looked like. She sniffed around, able to identify the sorrel, daisy leaves, and chamomile, and he pulled out just enough for him and the two she-cats. But then burnet looked like so many other things... He grabbed what was probably burnet and returned to the den, sorting out the herbs evenly. Unknown to him, he'd actually gotten parsley instead, but he tried.

Hollybright looked up at where Owlheart and pointed out and, sure enough, Wolffeather lay across a branch over the meadow. How had they not noticed her scent quicker? She mentally shrugged and padded up closer to the tree until she thought the she-cat could hear her. "Wolffeather!" she called, her tone still kind. "Oakstar sent us to fetch you for a hunting patrol." She glanced over at Owlheart and purred faintly.

Bearcloud's ears perked up as Darkberry responded and he backed out of the Warriors' Den, settling just in front of it's entrance. "Good morning, Darkberry," He begins, voice a friendly purr. Always good to greet cats when you first see them, he thought. He tucked his tail neatly over his paws and settled more firmly in the short grass of the meadow as he spoke again.
'"Oakstar has given me permission to send a pair of warriors and Wrenpaw to the Marsh to gather herbs for the coming Leaf Bare. I would like for you to be one of the two warriors to accompany my apprentice. Do you think you're up for it?" He asks, careful not to demand the she-cat go - if she didn't feel up for it, it was a safer bet to just pick a different cat, but he was sure Darkberry would be a very good choice for an endeavor such as this. The she-cat had a good head on her shoulders, after all, and her smaller stature would help her hide in the thick, tall grasses of the moor.
"In fact, I would prefer if you would lead the journey, Darkberry, if you're willing to take on that responsibility of course." He added after a beat, voice a hopeful purr.

"Hmmm..." Trapjaw padded back a few steps, as on my he were considering such a task, yet, instead, he pounced on Oakstar. "Oof!" Well, he thought he pounced on her, yet, he landed on hard dirt. The poor male had turned to quickly and tripped over his own paws. He was splayed out on his back in front of his leader, a comedic, sad expression on his face.Bubble

Oakstar jumped slightly when Trapjaw suddenly turned and - it looked like tried to pounce on her, maybe, though he ended up with a maw full of grass and dirt instead. She took a few steps back and away from Trapjaw, settling back down slightly closer to the fresh kill pile and giving her chest fur a few quick licks to hide her purring chuckles of amusement. "Trapjaw, please." She purrs, noticing after a moment that the silly flirt of a warrior really had managed to lift her spirits, if only a little bit. She'd have to find the time later to thank him for it - she was sure he knew exactly what he was doing when he came over here.
Not that his antics could postpone the inevitable that was the looming need to name a new deputy, though. The short reprieve was appreciated, however. Her purr was warm and friendly when she spoke again. "The moss needs to be gathered. Nightpaw or not, though I'd much prefer you take Nightpaw with you, it's important."

Larchtail - Little Pond - Bubble 's Emberstep, ~Cherry Red Panda~ 's Applescent & Riversplash Larchtail listened quietly to his clanmates talking, pausing briefly to sniff the air as they reached the Little Pond -no scents or rogues, or, thank StarClan, wolves greeted him, but he could smell faint scents of prey all around. It was too bad they weren't on a hunting patrol; the Little Pond was sure to be a great hunting place, as he assumed many animals came for the water. "I'd be all up for fighting a rogue," he meowed to Emberstep, quickening to be at pace with his patrol again, "But I would pass on fighting a wolf. I don't think any four cats could fight a wolf."
If a wolf showed up, Larchtail thought it'd be safe to assume that his chance of being deputy would end then and there, for the main reason of he'd be up in StarClan, but it would be an interesting way to die -imagine the glory of telling that story! Fighting off a rogue would better his chance of impressing Oakstar, and becoming deputy in this lifetime, though.
Wolffeather - Deer Meadow - Bubble 's Owlheart, ✨ nissabug ✨ 's Hollybright
Wolffeather startled at the sound of her clanmates voice, whipping her head around -for a hopeful second, she had thought that their pawsteps had been hoofsteps of the deer, but she was somewhat disappointed to find Hollybright and Owlheart instead. She had nothing against either of those cats -but they weren't as good as the deer. She pulled herself up, hopping out of the tree gracefully, although her paws smarted at the landing.
"I like hunting. Thanks for coming to get me." she meowed politely, casting a backwards glance at the Deer Meadow. She was disappointed that she would have to leave, but maybe the deer would be back when she returned later -and she did want to hunt. It was always like her to miss out on important things, and DawnClan needed all warriors for the approaching Leaf Bare. Her tail flicked guiltily -she had been so excited about the deer that she hadn't even considered that she was leaving behind her warrior duties.

Trapjaw got up, shaking his fur. He spat out grass and dirt. He gave a sigh, "Hmph," he turned tail and put his butt up. His chin raised high he walked on his toes. "If you find yourself worrying about something, or having a hard time making a decision, then see how each option works in the situation required," he said, prancing out of camp. He was quite an unusual cat...

She accepted the bird graciously, teeth setting to work stripping feather from skin, as she listened to her leader speak. At this point, the bird was more feather than meat, but really, that was common at this point in the season. The meat was also tougher, but again, nothing unusual so close to leaf bare.
She stops her chewing, though, swallowing thoughtfully at the question Oakstar posed, though she's interrupted by Trapjaw of all cats. She holds her tongue, amusement making her whiskers twitch as she watches Oakstar politely attempt to extract herself from the tom's grasp.
Once he's gone, she huffs a short laugh. "Someone seems smitten with you, dear Oakstar." She gives herself a lick before carrying on with their conversation as though nothing happened.
"The cats you've mentioned are all fine warriors, as is every warrior in this clan." She mewed this first statement confidently, though she gets a faraway look in her eyes as she muses, tail twitching and curling with her thoughts. "Larchtail, however, is still young and inexperienced and reckless. The deputy needs to be a cat who can support you in making decisions for the clan, which would require a great deal of thought and consideration and care. While Larchtail may one day grow to be a fine deputy, I don't believe he currently has the necessary maturity for the position."
"Hollybright is kind and empathetic, and I can see her being able to handle the clan in day to day life. My only concern regarding her is that perhaps she is sometimes too positive and that her positivity may lead her to misjudge the seriousness of a dire situation. Though again, I can't see that impacting too much, but that is something to consider."
"Riversplash is a laidback tom, and I appreciate his desire to negotiate before jumping into an actual battle. I've no doubt he would defend his clan when necessary, but his way with words would be a fine asset when speaking with other clans. It takes a great amount of patience to be Cloudpaw's mentor as well, and that patience and thoughtfulness would serve the clan well. Though, as you've likely seen with the moss situation, he may also be forgetful."
She reaches over, giving Oakstar's shoulder a friendly, hopefully, comforting lick. "In the end, pick the cat you believe you'll work with best. Every cat in this clan is a fine warrior. There aren't any bad decisions." She purrs quietly, rubbing her fur against the leader's before getting up and shaking her fur, about ready to go back to the nursery. "Everything will be alright, Oakstar. The whole clan will support you and your future deputy, whoever they may be."{{ Bubble <3 }}

Apprentice Den - With Cloudpaw (kraai )Jaypaw groaned as he felt the weight of his brother as he landed on him. Slowly, the tom opened his eyes and blinked hard, processing his brother's words. Cloudpaw was always so energetic and ready to take on the day and Jaypaw wasn't always as excited as he was. It wasn't that Jaypaw was lazy, he worked hard once he got up, he just didn't like the process of doing so.
The young tom flicked his tail to acknowledge his brother and stretches out, his paws flexing. He stood slowly and wiped his face with his paw before saying sleepily, "I'm as ready as ever. Lead the way, Cloudpaw."

He paused a little bit to purr more and twine his tail around Jaypaw's before leading his sibling back out. He sees Oakstar easily enough, sees their mother and Oakstar talking, and he bounds towards them, excitement making his tail flick back and forth furiously as he stood there, waiting for Jaypaw to catch up as he spoke.
"Oakstar, I found Jaypaw, but haven't seen Nightpaw yet." He dips his head at the leader respectfully, as Rainsong taught him, hearing his mother's quiet huff. He turns to face her, whiskers twitching as he purrs and rubs against her in greeting. He didn't see her as often now, which was to be expected, and he missed that, not that he'd admit it! He wasn't a kit anymore after all.

Darkberry's eyes widened for a moment. "Me?" she asked, almost a squeak. She hadn't had too much experience leading patrols, but she knew the territory well from being on them pretty often. She thought for a moment longer, then dipped her head toward Bearcloud. "I'd be happy to lead," she mewed as she lifted her head back up. The black and white cat then glanced around thoughtfully. Hollybright blinked warmly at the younger she-cat, then scented the air quickly for any sign of prey; however, there was nothing but the stale scent of deer. She flicked her tail in disappointment, then looked between the two cats in front of her. "Let's make a circle and go to the Little Pond, then through the woods back to camp," she said. She knew the pond was usually teeming with squirrels and birds - surely they would find something to take back home, something not as scrawny that could fill bellies. She turned north and began padding in that direction, her paws itching to hunt.

A brown tom gave a small growl. His vibrant yellow eyes were barely opened. He didn't have much to do for the day... The chatter of many cats had been his focus for quite some time now. Canyonpaw heaved himself up and peered from the apprentice's den. He slipped through the entrance and looked longingly at the elders den for just a split second. He knew his sister would be talking with the elders and other cats, trying to discover their fathers identity. Yet... He felt a guilt. He knew what their father had looked like, but he refused to tell Archpaw. He began to slink towards the entrance of the camp.

"Oh you're no fun, Larchtail." Emberstep purrs, playfully brushing up against Larchtail before all but prancing over to the pond, crouching down at it's bank and dipping her head towards the clear water's surface for a drink. After a few, parched-settling gulps, she stood back up and looked back to the others, eyes glittering.
"I'm sure we could take one!" She wriggled in excitement at the idea. She was perfectly aware that they'd probably need every paw available to take a wolf on. It was fun to think about, but she didn't know what she'd do if they actually encountered one. Thankfully, it wasn't very likely to happen in her lifetime, and she was perfectly fine with that.
"Though, I suppose I'd be fine with a silly old rogue or something, too." She says after a moment, her words a long sigh as if she was just so done with the very idea of a rogue.

Oakstar listened intently to Rainsong's words, ears pinned back as the Queen spoke. Her tail lashed from side to side as she mulled her words over, momentarily ignoring Cloudpaw, Jaypaw, and Nightpaw. Oh, and what Trapjaw said, too... She thought to herself, tail just lashing faster. She had so many options, and none of them were Lilywhisker, and what if she chose wrong?
She shook her head; she couldn't think like that. She would deal with that if it came, but she had to make a decision. She could practically feel Lilywhisker glaring at her from Starclan already for pushing it off as long as she had - but...
She squared her shoulders, eyes fierce and hard as she stood straight, determination steeling her nerves and strengthening her resolve. She could do this. Starclan, please forgive me for waiting so long.
"Rainsong, thank you for that. It was very helpful." The leader purrs softly, expression warm as she looks at the Queen.
"Please, go and rest. You'll nest will be made fresh soon enough, once these three -" She looks to the three apprentices gathered nearby, watching her. "As well as Archpaw and Canyonpaw go and gather new moss for the nests today." She dipped her head slightly in thanks to the Queen before turning her attention to the apprentices fully.
"Now, to sort out you three." The leader purrs, tucking her tail neatly over her paws as she looks over the young apprentices. "Cloudpaw has already been lectured by me for this, and I do loathe having to repeat myself, but you three - Archpaw and Canyonpaw, too - have been shirking your duties. Pinefoot has informed me that her moss has not been changed in ages. Now, I do not want to hear excuses, and you all are not totally at fault, either, your mentors are also responsible, but I am very disappointed in all of you. I would like for you all to go gather moss, either across the crossing rocks in the Thick Oak Forest or at the bramble patch, but by moonhigh I want each and every moss bed to be renewed. Pass this message to Archpaw and Canyonpaw, too." She flicks her tail at them dismissively, having said her peace.
"Now go on, it is already nearly sunhigh. You better hurry!"

Bearcloud purrs quietly at Darkberry's words, happy that the she-cat was willing like he hoped she'd be. "Yes, you. I'm sure this experience will be good for you. A good trip across the Caldera is an adventure, for sure." He says, voice quiet. At her question over who else would be coming, he let out a low, long hmm before responding. Windowfang had been his go-to, but was that the right choice? Would Oakstar be too terribly upset with him if he chose a third warrior as well, just in case? Safety was important, especially on such a long journey such as the one from the camp to the marsh and back.
"I was considering Widowfang, and of course Wrenpaw will be under your care during the trip as well," He says slowly after a moment, eyes unfocused and distant as he thought over his choices. Blackfang? Crowstalker, maybe even young sheeptuft? All the younger warriors would benefit from such an important journey, but...
"Perhaps you, Sandytail, Sheeptuft, and Wrenpaw." He pauses for a second. "Yes, that feels right. Please gather those two and meet Wrenpaw and I in the Medicine den when you are prepared. Remember, Leaf Bare is coming quickly and we must be prepared for it, so the quicker the four of you set off the better prepared we will inevitably be." He dipped his head to the she-cat before standing up and stretching with a purr.
"I will provide more details on the journey when you all are gathered together, so please hold questions for then.' He turned then and trotted back to the Medicine Den, ducking inside and spying Wrenpaw sitting before a few piles of herbs. His ears perk up and he pads over to his apprentice, looking down at what he'd gathered. He barely needed a glance to notice that the young apprentice hadn't quite gotten it right - Daisy leaves, sorrel, and chamomile were all present, but parsley wasn't burnet.
"Ah, so close Wrenpaw," The burly medicine cat gently paws the parsley out of the little piles, dipping his head towards the little plants. "take note of how mild the scent of this is - mild, but present. And of course take note of the leaves - they look almost like oak leaves but smaller, don't they?" He pauses to let his apprentice absorb this information before continuing. "That is parsley. Now, burnet -" He pauses to fetch a few sprigs of burnet from the small store he kept in the den, gently dropping it next to the parsley.
"Burnet smells like almost nothing, but the leaves are ovals with little tooth-like edges, see?" He sits back to let his apprentice compare the two plants, content to watch now, tail folded neatly over his paws and warmth in his chest. He truly enjoyed helping his apprentice learn.

Owlheart watched as Wolffeather came down from her perch when Hollybright calls to her, amusement thick under their fur at her clear disappointment that they weren't a herd of deer calling for her. Some good hunting was a cure for disappointment such as this, they knew, and they padded quietly up to the pair of she-cats with a friendly wave of their tail. At Hollybright's words, they nodded in assent to the idea.
"The pond tends to hold the most prey the longest. I was over by the lake this morning and could hardly catch a scent, let alone catch much of anything." They commented, a little bit of their worry seeping into their quiet voice.
"Come to think of it, I didn't scent much on my way there, either." They murmur more quietly. Hopefully the pond held some good, plump prey to catch - if not, they'd probably be eaten alive by worry alone.

| DawnClan Camp | Spiderfoot *-* Spiderfoot stepped out of the warrior's den, stretching out his back-legs and yawning, shaking out his fur. The warrior had slept worse than usual, with little sleep because of how loudly his stomach growled. He had spent most of yesterday hunting, trying to find almost any form of prey. He had found few pieces, and had eaten as little as possible, before he collapsed into his nest. Spiderfoot yawned once more, shaking his head as he did so as his body began to slowly wake up, and glanced around the camp, looking for something to do. A tiny thought in the back of his head wondered why no cat was choosing to approach him, he was Spiderfoot after all. He sighed and padded over to the edge of camp, lying down and beginning to groom himself, tugging at a knot that had tangled itself on his flank, teeth cutting through the tangled strands of fur.
"I wonder if anyone plans to go on a hunting patrol?" He thought to himself, as he watched the hustle and bustle of the camp.

{{so Larchtail mentors Archpaw? Is there going to be a certain amount of training sessions to be done before they can be made a warrior, or are they going to instantly become a warrior at 12 moons? }}
Larchtail - Little Pond - Bubble 's Emberstep, ~Cherry Red Panda~ 's Applescent & Riversplash
"Oh, I'm no fun?" Larchtail asked playfully, coming up behind Emberstep and giving her a teasing shove. He was suggesting not -dying, of all things, and apparently he was the boring one? He scoffed at Emberstep, amusement lighting his eyes. "Maybe I just have the right idea of fun; one that doesn't include being eaten alive by a wolf! A silly old rogue would be a lot better."
He ducked his head to the pond, lapping up some water. He wasn't quite sure if teasing his clanmates made him count as deputy material, but he hoped it had no effect. He couldn't help it if he participated in some light teasing with his clanmates; that was practically the point of having clanmates, to be friends with them and enjoy their company. But he couldn't remember Lilywhisker ever joking with him specifically, so maybe being a deputy meant you had to serious all the time. Larchtail hoped not; he wanted to be deputy, but he also loved to play with his clanmates, which would make being a stone-faced hard tail of a deputy would be difficult.
Wolffeather - Deer Meadow - Bubble 's Owlheart, ✨ nissabug ✨ 's Hollybright
Wolffeather gave Owlheart a nod so that the two -cat knew that she saw them. She hadn't spoken to either Hollybright or Owlheart very often -it was her own fault for tipsing around in the Deer Meadow so much -so she wasn't very close to them and didn't know them very well, but she could guess that Owlheart was worried. The quiet voice and look in their eyes gave it away, and Wolffeather tried to give him a comforting smile.
"I saw a squirrel today." she told him hopefully. "...I didn't catch it, but it was searching for nuts. I bet they'll be a ton of mice and squirrels out to fill up their Leaf- Bare food storage!" She hadn't caught it because she had been running to Deer Meadow, and scared it off before she even registered that catching food was more important than watching deer. She glanced at Hollybright, trying to see if the other she -cat looked concerned, and quickly began to pad after her when she saw she was moving away.

Hollybright listened to both accounts intently, her ear flicking to show she heard. Her eyes narrowed in concern, but also thoughtfully. "I wonder what's going on," she commented, trying not to show the worry starting to gnaw at her stomach. Surely the pond would have prey if the lake didn't? She knew leaf-bare meant less prey, but it didn't mean no prey, and it was still leaf-fall, anyway. As the little pond grew closer, glistening in the distance, Hollybright hoped they would be bringing plenty of prey back from this patrol.

Wrenpaw almost physically deflated at Bearcloud's words, but he also knew he wasn't sure of what herb that was anyway, so it was good to learn it now. He nodded along as his mentor instructed him, and he leaned down to sniff each sprig of leaves. Now he could understand how they were different. He let the new information sink in, the scents of the two herbs (or lack thereof), then looked up at his mentor. "Thank you for telling me," he mewed, whiskers twitching lightly. "I don't think we need parsley on a trip." He then pawed at the herbs again, counting them all out. "Is it just me, Darkberry, and Widowfang?"
