Hollybright had seen Owlheart enter camp as she was leaving, so she turned to the cat and tipped her head. “Would you like to come hunt with me and Wolffeather?” she asked, eyeing the pieces of prey they had brought in. “I know you just came back, but hopefully we can find some more prey elsewhere.” Was it too much to ask them to hunting again? Although she knew Owlheart did enjoy hunting fairly often anyway... She continued to smile gently at them.

Owlheart blinked at Hollybright, silent for a moment, before bobbing their head slowly. While they had just come back from a mostly fruitless trip, they wouldn't mind going out again. Leaf Fall or not, there had to be prey left somewhere, right?
"Of course, Hollybright. Oakstar has ordered a hunting patrol I imagine?" They murmur, stretching their front legs out before joining the she-cat by the camp entrance again, expression friendly. "I think I scented Wolffeather on the way in. Perhaps she went to the Deer Meadow?" They suggest, padding quickly out of the camp. They frequently scented Wolffeather going that way - they wouldn't be surprised if the younger she-cat holed up there often.

Bearcloud fought down amusement at his apprentice's clear excitement at the idea of making the journey. That was good; he would've had more doubts about an apprentice afraid to go, after all.
"I was thinking about sending Darkberry and Widowfang along with you, Wrenpaw. They're both rather young, but I've no doubts that they could be of help to you on the journey and in the marsh." He purrs, voice warm and friendly if a bit distant, his eyes drifting off to look over at the splintering fallen tree trunk and, subsequently, the meager supply of herbs they had. He spied dried goldenrod, a sprig of lavender, a few wads of cobweb, a small pile of juniper berries...
He shook his head a little bit, turning his attention back to his apprentice. "In any case, you must prepare for the journey. Do you remember the herbs used for long travels, Wrenpaw?" There was never a bad time to test his apprentice, especially before making such an important first journey outside of the territory. Wrenpaw would have to make another one once he was ready to become a full Medicine cat, after all, to the Starpool. He had much hope for the eager tom, though. He was sure he'd make a wonderful Medicine cat one day.
The thought filled him with pride, making him puff up a bit with it.

Oakstar blinked at Birchtail, surprised by the orange tabby's straightforwardness, and dipped her head in assent. "I'm sure Hollybright would be happy to have another set of helpful paws. Leaf Bare seems to be coming early; we likely need all of the prey we can catch." She was about to turn away to head back to her den when she spied a familiar white tom trying to sneak out of camp. Ears flattening, she sat down heavily and called out, her voice a loud, pointed meow.
"Cloudpaw! Please come here!" Her voice echoed across the small meadow of the camp. She had not mentioned him going along with his mentor on patrol. She had told Pinefoot that she would speak with Cloudpaw about shirking his duties; and she was planning on it.

Emberstep, too excited to just follow behind Larchtail, darted through the bramble exit of the camp - and suffered for it, tufts of black-orange fur coming off in the sharp thorns. She ignores it, however, too eager to whine and cry about some measly torn out fur. She slows down a little once she's out of camp, though, not wanting to entirely lose the rest of the patrol party, and looks back at the others to make sure they haven't fallen too far behind.
She opened her maw slightly, drinking in the air of the aspen forest, the icy breeze ruffling her fur. She scented Owlheart, who had just come through the camp entrance with prey earlier, and the older scent of Wolffeather, but otherwise nothing unusual so near the camp. Which was good. She had slowed down in her rapid pace as she scented, focused.

Larchtail - nearby camp - Bubble 's Emberstep, ~Cherry Red Panda~ 's Riversplash & Applescent
Larchtail jumped back in surprise as Emberstep rushed past him, and wasn't able to hold back a laugh as she smacked the brambles around the entrance. Careful for his fur not to meet the same fate, he trotted out carefully, pushing pointedly past Hollybright with a wayward glance towards her, and followed after Emberstep. He had no problem with Emberstep acting so excitedly -although he did have a problem with her being ahead. Afterall, he was supposed to be leading the patrol. He would've loved to grab her by the tail and insist that she stay close, but he was supposed to be mature and impressive, for the sake of his future deputy position.
"No need to rush, Emberstep." he meowed, waving his tail towards her, "Come back and walk with us." He kept himself a few steps ahead of Riversplash and Applescent, making it clear that he was the patrol leader, and all he needed now was for Emberstep to come and join the group behind him, or at least beside him, so that, in the rare chance that Oakstar somehow did see, he would look like he was leading the perfect patrol.

At Larchtail's words she startles nearly bad enough to jump right out of her fur but manages to keep all four paws on the ground. She stops moving, tail lowering in embarrassment as she hunches slightly. She'd gotten a little caught up in it, she knew - she wasn't the patrol leader, after all. She waits patiently for the tom to catch up, eyeing Riversplash and Applescent behind him before deciding to walk just a bit behind Larchtail.
"... Sorry. I think I got a little bit too excited?" She meows quietly, though it turns out as more of a question then anything. She walks quiet measured, much slower steps now, splitting her concentration between not rushing ahead and scenting and listening for anything suspicious or out of place as they make their way to the Little Pond.

((yeah i think the rivalry between them would be fun!))
Hollybright purred at Owlheart. "Probably," she agreed as she followed the warrior out of camp. "We know how much she loves deer." She flicked her tail amusingly at the thought, but would never judge the she-cat for it. Deer were quite lovely, after all. As they started walking in that direction, she kept her ears perked and mouth slightly parted for the scent of prey. Even on the way there they could keep an eye out for prey.

Wrenpaw's face scrunched up in deep thought. This was one of the first things he was taught, and yet he had to dig deep to remember it. "Uh... daisy leaves, sorrel, burnet, and..." He tipped his head. "Chamomile?" He sat straight up to look confident, although he wasn't sure. He didn't want to mess up before even setting a paw outside of camp! His eyes still sparkled with excitement at leaving to get herbs on his own! ...Well, mostly.

Wolffeather - Deer Meadow - ✨ nissabug ✨ 's Hollybright, Bubble 's Owlheart
Still no sign of deer. Wolffeather sighed wearily, letting her leg hang down the side of the tree branch that she was resting on. She had been waiting for the day forever, and it felt like seasons had passed since she had seen them -which, truly, they had; she hadn't seen them at all during Greenleaf, and now they weren't even showing up now! She hoped that nothing bad had happened to them -she remembered the fawn she had seen last time and the new stag with large antlers. She hoped that they were okay. She wiggled down from the tree, resting herself on a lower branch where she was more visible, so maybe she could better see the deer approaching.

Bearcloud purred hard in happy pride at his apprentice's, if unsure, response. His tail swished back and forth slowly behind him and his whiskers twitched as he spoke. "Very good, Wrenpaw. You are very much so correct." He stood, stretching his front legs out a bit before speaking again.
"I will go and speak with Darkberry and Widowfang. I would like you to go over the herb stores and see if we have everything you three will need for the journey. When I return, the two of us will go and collect what else we need should we be low or out of anything." He turned, padding towards the entrance to the Medicine Den. He paused at the entrance, looking back at Wrenpaw.
"You are doing very well, Wrenpaw. I'm very proud of you. It took me well into my third moon as an apprentice to remember all of those traveling herbs!" He mrows warmly, yellow eyes narrowed in happiness. The coming Leaf Bare was going to be a hard one, surely, but he had a very promising apprentice. He was certain they'd make it through it.
He slipped from the den, padding across the camp to the Warrior's Den and peering inside. "Darkberry? Widowfang? Are you both still lingering around in here?" He called into the large den.

(Hey Yeti! All my characters are currently busy, sorry D: )
"The deer are pretty, I think I understand why she likes them so much." Owlheart replies, glancing at Hollybright and seeing that she was on the lookout for prey already. They hurry to copy her, breathing in deeply as they walked towards the Deer Meadow... And scenting nothing but stale mouse and the faint traces of Wolffeather. Yes, she'd definitly headed straight to the meadow this morning.
A bird tweets above them and they look up, wondering if the bird might be landing somewhere nearby - but they don't see the source of the noise so much as they see a familiar shape curled atop one of the branches bordering the meadow. Their tail twitches and their ears stand straight up on their head in alarm - they hadn't even noticed they were so close!
"Look, Hollybright," They meow quietly, nodding towards the tree branch clearly holding Wolffeather. "We were right!"

Birchtail nodded quickly, purring lowly at Oakstar before turning to go back and find Hollybright. "Please let me know if there are any other tasks you'd like me to do, Oakstar," he meowed at her, debating between giving the leader a comforting lick and simply walking away, but in the propriety won out. He'd turn, but before that, he huffed amusedly as Cloudpaw came running over, always a ball of energy that one. He gives the apprentice a gentle flick with his tail, meowing gently at him. "Good luck, little one."
And with that, he sets off to see where Hollybright had gone, though that wasn't too hard. He was an excellent tracker after all, and it didn't seem like it'd been too long since she and apparently Owlheart had left camp. He finds them as it was about halfway to sunhigh, Wolffeather with them "Hollybright, Owlheart, Wolffeather." He dipped his head at each of them. "Oakstar requested I go hunting with you. Would that be alright?"

He hears Oakstar calling him, and he gets up from his sneaky crouch, swiftly turning around and running towards the leader as fast as he could. What could they need him for? Was he being sent out on a solo mission? Was he already that good?
He's barely containing his purr as he sits back down in front of Oakstar, wrapping his tail neatly over his paws like his mother taught him. "Hello, Oakstar," he mews politely, even as he's practically vibrating with energy. "Did you need me for something?"

Oakstar watches as the little apprentice bounds over to her, exasperation already welling up thickly in her at his exhuberance. Dealing with wayward apprentices now, what would Lilywhisker have done? She had been one of the best warriors - and deputies - she'd ever encountered. If only she was here to help her...
So caught up in her thoughts, she almost missed the excitable tom's words and her shoulders sank slightly as the energy she'd mustered up to get up this morning began to wane. "Cloudpaw," She starts, voice hard and strong. "Pinefoot has told me that you, in particular, have not been tending to her. I understand that it is not entirely your fault - your mentor is, of course, partially responsible - but you should know better." She scolds, looking down at Cloudpaw with stern eyes, body still as stone.
"Do you not remember your duty as an apprentice? It is not all hunting and patrolling and fighting, you know." She places her tail gently over her paws, dragging herself into as straight of a sit as she can manage, trying desperately to continue to be the leader she was supposed to be in all facets.

Oh. Oh. He knew he was forgetting something, and he immediately bows his head, ears pulled a little back, energy muted. "I understand, Oakstar. I'm sorry I forgot. I'll go take care of Pinefoot's moss right away, then?" His tail flicked a little bit. He could do better, definitely. Perhaps he was a while away from being a warrior still, but he could do it!

Satisfied by the young apprentice's understanding, Oakstar dips her head, a purr building in her chest. It was good Cloudpaw understood - but now she'd have to talk with Jaypaw and Nightpaw too. Her tail twitched at the idea. She would truly have to have a chat with their mentors if this kept up.
"You are to tend to all of the moss beds today, Cloudpaw. Not just Pinefoot's. Rainsong's bedding must also be changed, I imagine. You should also ask the others if they need new moss as well as you see them. You may take Jaypaw and Nightpaw after I speak with them across the crossing rocks to gather the moss or the bramble patch - it is up to you. I expect all nests to be fresh, should their owner's say so, by moonhigh. And do not forget that Elders and Queens must be fed first, too." She instructs firmly. The best way to teach an apprentice a lesson, in her mind, is to make sure they'll remember it.
"Before you go tend to Pinefoot, please go and send Nightpaw and Jaypaw to me, Cloudpaw." She dismisses him with a flick of her tail, standing and making her way over to the fresh kill pile - she'd seen Owlheart bring some prey in before Hollybright had spirited the two-cat away for more hunting this morning.

Rainsong stretched lazily, fur swishing as she shook the moss out, humming quietly to herself. It wasn't as fresh as it should be. Perhaps she should talk to her son about it? Though, that was his mentor's place, not hers, especially not with a new litter on the way. Especially with how busy everyone was, with how weakened their clan was after the loss of their deputy.
Still... That didn't mean the apprentices should be neglecting their duties.
She forced herself out of the nursery, branches and bramble catching on her exceedingly long fur, starting to feel particularly ungainly. There was still a while yet for these kits to be born, but they were certainly making their presence known.
She wrapped her tail neatly around her paws once she untangled herself, watching the clan come to life. She watched the leader speak to cat after cat, speaking with her Cloudpaw now. It seemed like her son was getting a scolding with how flattened his ears looked and the guilt on his face.
Rainsong waited for them to finish before walking over to Oakstar by the fresh kill pile, purring loudly in greeting to announce herself, watching amusedly as Cloudpaw left in a hurry, not even seeing her. "Hello, Oakstar," she meowed gently. "Was everything alright with Cloudpaw? Are you alright?" She settles down next to the leader, giving herself a few licks to look more presentable. "Is there anything I can do at camp to help?"

Oakstar stared at the meager amount of prey currently piled together under the roots of the old aspen, expression grim and dark. Their clan - while strong and healthy now - would need all the prey they could get to survive Leaf Bare, and this... This wasn't enough. If Lilywhisker was -
Her thoughts are interrupted by Rainsong, the heavily pregnant Queen still asking if there was any way she could help even in her condition. Sighing, Oakstar pushed a scrawny bird towards the Queen, urging her to eat while she spoke. "You'll be kitting soon, Rainsong. There's no need for you to lift a paw - even with... Even with all that has happened, Dawnclan is strong, it's warriors are strong. I..." Her ears flattened and she gazed away from Rainsong, under the roots of the aspen blankly.
"I have been thinking... Thinking of someone to replace Lilywhisker with." She meows softly, the words hurting her to say. She'd been putting it off too long, though. She knew that. But she didn't like it.
"I've been considering perhaps Larchtail, or even Hollybright... Even Riversplash has crossed my mind. I'm just not sure who is best suited for the position. What do you think?" It was rare of Oakstar to ask others for opinions on things such as this - but she was struggling terribly. She just couldn't decide. She wasn't even the closest with Rainsong, but the Queen's motherly nature helped to soothe her frazzled nerves.

Blackfang stalked into the camp, followed by a chattering Trapjaw. An annoyed look crossed the dark warrior's face as hes only returned with mere voles. Trapjaw sauntered in with a single sparrow. In his mind, Blackfang knew the clan needed more prey to last them through the cold seasons ahead. As he went and dropped the prey on the fresh kill pile, he then immediately turned, heading out again.
Trapjaw placed his sparrow in the fresh kill pile. A feather had stuck in his tooth. He spat it out, and shook his fur out. He saw the familiar look on his leaders face as she was engaged in conversation. He then took it upon him self to pad towards her. As he passed, his trail curled and drifted around her as he sat very closely to her. "Hey Oakstar~," he began in a light sounding tone, "How's my little mouse whisker kitty doing?" He chuckled, trying to lighten the mood of his leader.

Applescent and Riversplash both purred in amusement as Emberstep joined them behind Larchtail. "Can't blame you for being excited Emberstep, you never know what you might find on a patrol!" Riversplash said as he smiled at Emberstep. Applescent nodded in agreement, "Yeah, but hopefully nothing too exciting happens." she mewed quietly. They were both happy to be on a patrol, getting to go outside of camp and check on the territory was always something to look forward to.

Of course, any attempt to have a serious conversation with Rainsong is utterly ruined by Trapjaw of all cats. Oakstar sighs, sagging slightly where she sat crouched by the prey pile, asking Starclan why they had to do this to her. Now. Of all times.
"Hello, Trapjaw." The Leader meowed, exasperation clear in the set of her shoulders and the sighing edge to her words.
"I see you've caught a sparrow. Is that all?" She completely dodged the tom's attempt at flirting, absolutely not in the mood for this... This. Trapjaw's antics. She peered around the camp, spying Nightpaw nearby, the small apprentice having asked her a question. She got an idea - maybe she could have Trapjaw take over for Hollybright for the day, since she'd sent the she-cat out on a hunting patrol without thinking of her apprentice? She sidled up against Trapjaw suddenly, rubbing her side against his and purring her words.
"Oh, sweet Trapjaw," She's cringing inside. This is not what she wants to be doing right now.
"Could you be a dear and take Nightpaw out to the Thick Oak Forest to gather moss? The apprentices have been shirking their duties recently and Pinefoot, and I'm sure Rainsong here, are definitely in need of some new bedding. It'd be very much appreciated?" She hoped beyond hope that this would get the flirty tom out of her fur for a while.

Sitting in the elders den sat Boneeye and Archpaw. Boneeye purred, gazing longingly at an empty nest. Her old bones ached, but the soft paws of the apprentice with het felt nice. She gave a rickety purr and flicked her tail.Archpaw massaged the elder cat's back. Her ears perked up, hearing paw steps approach. A familiar scent filled their air. "Hey Nightpaw!" She exclaimed. Emberstep purred in delight to hear that her feelings on patrolling are echoed in Riversplash and Applescent, thankful that her excitement wasn't too weird or anything. "I don't know," She meows thoughtfully, tail swirling in the air behind her as she thought and walked at the same time, pausing in talking in order to scent the air and take a moment to listen for anything unusual as they closed in on the Little Pond.
"I think it could maybe be fun to fight a rogue off or something. Or! What if we ran into a wolf or something? Can you imagine!" She mrrowed in excitement at the very idea, sheathing and unsheathing her claws a few times. The thought of wolves in the territory was terrifying - especially with Rainsong getting ever closer to kitting and all, so she took a deep, deep, scenting breath just to reassure herself that her words hadn't somehow summoned a wolf to them.
