Aima was slightly uncomfortable as Xaal got really close to her, but relaxed when she realized he was only looking at her keys. Magic," she repeated the ward softly as though it were the most simple thing in the entire universe. "I don't think the soldiers are coming." Aucx pitched once Xaal had finished. "I can't hear their footsteps. Sure, they were wearing light armor, but they had practice opening the Cathedral doors and they can't be very slow. I mean, we've been chatting for a few minutes, we should at least hear them by now." Aucx pointed out. Aima shook her head. "That doesn't mean their not coming. Baal's right, we should try find a safe place. For all we know, the kingdom's soldiers could be working to surround us right now." She countered, giving a thoughtful now to Xaal for suggesting the idea.

Gabriel looked at him for a second, and nodded. "You were in a tree before. Did you climb high enough to see above the forest canopy? What did you see up there?" he asked warily. They were dead in the water if they couldn't find a safe place, he was right about that. Either way, they were even more screwed if they didn't know where they were going. They'd likely run into more guards.

Xaal subconsciously ran a hand through his hair, eyes glancing around once again. To be honest, going high into the treetops was a split decision he made while silently tailing the others. Even then, he hadn't seen much in the ways of landmarks or locales. All he'd seen was the golden-hued sky that spoke of a place far from home. However, there had been smoke drifting from a certain clearing, quite far away from where they currently stood. If it wasn't for his abnormally sharpened eyesight, then Xaal was sure that he wouldn't have noticed it. It was something, but possibly nothing of note. A campfire, maybe? But, in the middle of the day? Perhaps a cooking fire?
"Within the trees, I took notice of smoke, rising thinly through the branches," He finally spoke, turning his gaze to the others. "Perhaps it was nothing, but there is also a chance of it being caused by a non-inhospitable native. Maybe an abandoned camp." Xaal looked directly at Aima. "In what direction was the tower? We can survey the smoke along the way."

Bentley bit her lip. "I'd say heading to the tower is risky. It could be an armory for all we know. What if they put out a bounty or something?" Gabriel shrugged. He had the sense that they didn't agree often, but this was one of the few times they did. "Yeah, maybe we should steer clear of the city for now."

Gabriel pinched the bridge of his nose and elbowed Bentley in the ribs before she could protest. She shoved him in response, giving an annoyed sigh. "Fair enough. Let's head off before it gets too late. It'll be a long walk, and it's not going to help if we're stumbling around in the dark." Gabriel said. "Don't say I didn't warn you guys." Bentley huffed.

Xaal tilted his head slightly to the left as he watched Bentlet, his stoic lips twitching slightly in amusement. Turning away from the annoyed human, the Drow nodded to Aima. The smoke was coming from the North, so they'd be on course the entirety of the way to the tower. "I am ready." He simply said in response to Gabriel, moving towards the unknown forest. Instinctively, his calloused hands came to rest int he pockets of his coat as he walked past the twins, close enough to the grips of his pistols. It was a tactic that he dully remember utilizing in his previous travels. Have any potential enemy believe that you're relaxed, and they end up dead due to the speed of your draw. The thought made a small smile finally break out on his lips.

Bentley looked at glanced at his pockets, reluctantly following him. He had been fine before, if a little uptight, but if there was one thing she hated, it was being patronized. The only thing stopping her from hitting him was that he had more firepower, and was definitely shady enough to shoot her without second thoughts. Gabriel looked over at his quietly seething sister and sighed. Her angry expression had a hint of familiarity to it, giving him the impression they'd been through their fair share of fights. Made enough sense. He didn't exactly disagree with her; Xaal didn't really seem like a saint. He silently kept in stride with Bentley, eyes focused intently ahead.

Xaal was quite familiar with the silence that had enveloped the group. It was comforting, really, hearing the sounds of the winds rustling the leaves, without the talking of other humanoid lifeforms. The thought made sense, he supposed...perhaps he was used to travelling alone, and in silence? However, there was one thing that was bothering him, seeing as how he did not exactly catch the capabilities of his companions during that minor fight in the city. Immediately after killing two of the soldiers in rapid succession, Xaal had quickly dashed into the shadows, to regain his bearings.
"How capable are you all in a battle?" He spoke up quietly, crimson eyes watching the shadowy path ahead of them calmly. They were getting closer to the smoke - the scent of hickory was tickling his sensitive nose. If there was a fight to be had, then he wanted to know how the others fought - ranged, melee? ...Magic? It would help him decide his tactics.
[[Hullo my friend.]]

Bentley snorted. "Bragging, are y-" she started. "Bentley and I are plenty capable with weapons and hand to hand." Gabriel interrupted flatly. It wasn't exactly a trust-earning question, but Gabriel was pretty sure they could take him together if it came down to it.

(Alright, Dragons, nice to have you) -- A lithe man sat on a stone in the forest. He held a soldier by the neck, the lightly-armored man passed out and there was a slice on the soldier's arm. He adjusted his grip so the neck was clear and the man pulled down the soldier's shirt slightly. The lithe figure bit the soldier's neck. As far as nothing went, he wore a white, collared long-sleeve button-down shirt with two rows of golden buttons, the top ones undone and, accompanying this, were white skinny-jeans with black boots that reached up to his thighs. He dawned a black belt wit a chain on the right side and his scabbard on the left. The cuffs of the shirt are black and have four golden buttons down the outside. He also wears a white cape that covers his left shoulder and reached the back of his right shoulder with a thick maroon band that runs along the bottom. He also has a white waistcoat which he wears over his posterior. It splits down the center and reached his mid-calf and is held in place by his black belt. His attire is finished with a pair of black gloves. Poking out of his messy black hair were a set of elonged ears. Once he'd drained the soldier to death, he tossed him onto the floor, crimson eyes cold and annoyed. Two Dire Wolves leapt out of the brush and dragged the dead soldier into the shadows. That was something that had caught his attention. He was close to this tall tower and there were a series o different creatures. He was sure he'd even seen a few goblins wandering about, but a few miles into the forest away from the town, he recalled there hadn't been any creatures. Well, none that tried attacking anyway. -- "Capabilities? I'm not sure. I don't quite remember how to call these spirits out of the keys. I did it earlier, but I didn't really think about what I said." Aima replied. "Though, I suppose I'm a decent strategist. At the very least, I'm perceptive." She added. Aucx added in himself, "I'm more of a follower. I'll make decisions if no one's giving them, but I don't think I'll last very long in a battle without formations and a squad leader." He blinked; that was weird, why would he say squad? He shrugged it off and continued, "I'm a close-range fighter with good endurance, I suppose. I have a double-edged longsword." He informed. Even with them lacking their memories, their fight in the cathedral had giving them each an idea of what they themselves were capable of.

Gabriel half-listened as the others rattled off their abilities. They might be able to fight, but that would do them little good without supplies. Or shelter. He sighed quietly. The weight of their situation was pressing on him, and he welcomed the forest as a distraction. Something was missing, he noted, as he gazed at the canopy. He just couldn't put his finger on what. Maybe it was another memory loss thing. No.. this seemed like it was right in front of him. He stopped walking for half a moment. The birds. Not just the birds, nothing at all. The forest was silent. He gazed into the distance, but the tree line was almost hazy, and the undergrowth was too thick. He glanced over his shoulder as he walked. The silence made him uneasy.

So, a strategic human who could not utilize her...'spirit keys', a sturdy soldier used to following orders, and two fighters skilled in hand-to-hand and weaponry combat. All in all, the group could have been significantly worse - he could have been stuck with humans who'd never seen combat before in their lives. Although, technically, with the mass amnesia, none of them could even remember fighting...but muscle memory and instincts would have to serve them just as well. "...It will do." Xaal murmured to himself, glancing back at the others. Gabriel seemed tense, he noted, but that could have been for a plethora of reason. Their situation wasn't looking incredibly well at the moment, after all. The Drow watched him for a second longer, before turning his attention back to the path. Instinctively, he ducked underneath a low-hanging branch, not missing a beat as he began speaking.
"I'm a mid-ranged fighter, although I can switch to long-ranged and short-ranged whenever necessary." Close-ranged wasn't his forte, but his body seemed to be seasoned in using his pistols as bludgeoning weapons, judging by how he fared back in the city. The hickory smell was very close, and one could see the wisps of smoke drifting into the sky above the clearing ahead. Bushes and foliage obscured the campsite from view. Xaal stopped, and turned towards the others, gathering his thoughts.
"It seems to me that Aucx, Gabriel, and Bentley should lead the way inside. I will follow behind closely, while Aima stays close to me and watches the area for enemies that we are not aware of. Any objections?" As he talked, his voice a low whisper, Xaal glanced at each person in turn. He didn't know what was waiting for them, but it would be foolish not to be ready for a fight. Danger seemed to be rampant in these lands.

Bentley frowned slightly. She never liked someone else calling the shots, but she didn't have any better ideas. She didn't like the idea of having her back to Xall, either. She sighed and shook her head. Gabriel looked at Bentley a moment and glanced in the direction of the campsite. "Maybe we should at least try scouting it out first. Maybe Bentley could climb a tree?" he suggested. "Why do I have to climb it?" Bentley asked pointedly. Gabriel sighed. "You're better than I am." he admitted. She shrugged. "Can't deny that." The twins looked at the rest of the group for approval.

Bentley nodded. "Good enough for me." She looked over at Gabriel for a second opinion. He leaned against a tree, but misjudged the distance and stumbled backward slightly. His cheeks reddened as Bentley put her hand over her mouth to keep from laughing and alerting the camp. He scowled and cleared his throat slightly. "Yeah. I second putting Xaal on tree climbing duty." he said quietly. He punched Bentley in the shoulder for good measure, who was smirking at him.
