{Ok.}
Katherine and Carter had been invited to a high-end masquerade ball, more like Kate was invited and was dragging along Carter as her plus one because she did not want to be alone at this type of event. It started in a hour and Carter was suppose to pick her up now. She was completely ready to go, both her and Carter had matching masks in terms of details and stylings.
By the time Carter and Kate were walking into the event, they were a few minutes late and the event was in full swing.

And Fisher was there, too, but he wasn't dancing. He was working. While everyone else was having fun, he was standing on the sidelines in a black dress uniform, watching the floor like a hawk. Truthfully he didn't want to see anything happen today. He just wanted a break, but the last day off he'd had started with him choking on a donut and ended with a hostage situation. Not exactly his idea of a good time.
An hour or so into the event, a tall woman with dark, curly hair approached him. It was odd. No one ever spoke to Fisher when he was in uniform, and with Frankie standing across the dance hall, he didn't have anyone to talk to. "Hello, Officer," the woman said, a smile creeping across her lips, "You look like you're enjoying yourself about as much as I am."
"Probably a little less," Fisher admitted, looking his new friend up and down. "I know you from somewhere."
Smirking, the woman replied, "Yes, you do."

Of Kate just had to walk by Fisher, though not that she was paying attention, she was too far engrossed talking with Carter, a hand lightly placed on the crook of his arm. It was enough to suggest that they had some sort of relation, though not enough to suggest they were dating. She was wear a long sheath style dress, that hugged her body until mid thigh and flowed gently out. It was black with golden applicate on the bottom six inches or so of the dress, other than that the dress was plain, with thin sparkly straps and ruffled scoop neck. Her mask was tasteful in terms of gold, black and glitter and her hair half up and half down, in large ringlets which covered some of the open back dress. Some would say she was slightly underdressed.
Carter was in a black suit with a gold vest that matched Kate's dress well, and his undershirt was white with a black tie. He started pulling at his tie.
"Stop it Carter." Kate sighed. "Keep an eye out. I know we had promising careers back home, but I still don't get why you bring some of the brightest minds, plus police and fire under one roof. This doesn't make sense." She sighed.

When it hit him, Fisher smiled and couldn't stop himself from hugging the apparent stranger before him. He really hoped he was thinking of the right person. That would have made for an awkward report if he hadn't. "Candy." She smelled like cinnamon, not the usual marguerita mix. "Holy crap, I missed you. Where have you been?"
"Around. Got a little too crowded in this city, you know. A lot of competition for that hero title," she replied, sneakily taking Fisher's hand. "Shoulda gotten out while you could have."
"Believe me..." Looking over Candy's bare shoulder, Fisher wasn't certain, but he thought he saw Kate crossing the dance floor with someone. Someone else. Taking note of Fisher's disappointment, Candy touched his jawline gently and looked at the floor behind her. "Cody, what's wrong?"
"Nothing. I just thought I saw someone."

"Well it kind of does given this is a benefit type." Carter stated.
Kate rolled her eyes. "You want something to drink?" She asked, looking around and then at the bar.
Carter sighed, debating, for a moment. "Yea, sure, but why are you having a drink when you know it won't affect you?" He asked.
Kate huffed. "I know. But why do always have to bring that little annoying fact up? I mean always?" She sighed, taking a few steps away.
"I don't know. Sometimes it's fun to annoy you. I may just have to start working on something that changes that." Carter shrugged at her question, but a moment later, a fish-eating grin appeared on his face.
Kate rolled her eyes at his comment, gently hitting him in upper arm. "Be back in a few, that's some deviously hansom man doesn't sweep me off my feet for a dance." She head off to the bar. She quickly ordered and received her drink, however Carter's drink took forever.
"Ow, you wound me Kate." Carter called off with fake puppy dog eyes, rubbing his arm for a moment before a smile returned.

"Cody, it's a masquerade ball. How could you see someone you recognized?" Candy asked, folding her arms. "Hey. Look at me."
Fisher's attention was no longer on Kate, rather, her suddenly suspicious partner. Alone on the dance floor? At an event like this? Something was going to happen. He squeezed Candy's hand and murmured, "You'll back me up right? Great." And with that he headed toward Carter, rehearsing his greeting silently.
"Hi." Not as cool as he'd wanted it to be. "You alright, there? Where's your date?"

"Oh, I'm fine... Date? Heh... Like I even have a date. I'm just out with a friend. She was the one who got invited and we're not even sure why. Thought we'd check it out." Carter sighed, with a small smile. He looked over at Kate wondering if she would come over here to rescue him. Which only ended in an eye roll aimed at the woman.
In the time she was at the bar, she had sipped down one drink and started on a second. Alcohol could not affect the speedster, so either, she either hardly drank what she had in hand or drank a little too much, enough to arouse suspicion. She sighed, having Carter's drink in hand and slowly made her way over. In the time she spent away from Carter, quite a few men looked her way. Not that Carter cared, he was like a brother to Katherine.

"Okay." Fisher said disbelievingly, one hand on his belt. "Okay. Where exactly is she?"
"Fisher," Candy sighed, touching his shoulder from the side, so as not to alarm him, "Is being alone at a dance a crime? You're probably missing five real crimes right now." More quietky, she hissed, "I'll back you up, but only if there's something TO back up. You need to relax."
"I asked a perfectly normal question." Maintaining his rugged demeanour was becoming increasingly difficult the more he listened to Candy. "Point her out."

Carter sighed, looked around for a moment and then started looking towards the bar for a rescue by Kate who seemed to have disappeared for the moment. He also took a step back. "Look, I..."
Kate sighed, seeing the predicament that Carter was already in. She sighed, not knowing who was worse her or her friend. Quickly as she could, she made her way over to him. "Car, there a problem with the officer? Sir?" She asked innocently, modifying her voice in a why she hadn't already did while around Fisher. It sounded normal, not crazy different like normal.
"He was just wondering where my date was. But I told him that I didn't have a date, I was being dragged along by my friend." Carter explain.
"Oh really now? I'm just dragging you along now am I?" Kate smiled with a raised eyebrow in amusement.

"Can we just stop pretending we don't know each other? Who are you pretending to be today?" Fisher asked, glaring at Kate. "And by 'we' I mean 'you' and 'each other' I mean me. If I were gonna tell someone I would have told them by now. You sure as hell deserved it after yesterday's incident," the officer snapped. He ignored Candy's worried expression and pointed at Carter. "And you. You just look like trouble."
"Are you having a hard day?" Candy asked, wrapping one arm around Fisher's.
"No! I'm fine!"

"You know what? I was going to play nice and be nice so that I could have a nice night. Oh no you have to ruin it by insulting me and my partner." Kate growled, in no mood to deal with disrespect. With that she handed Carter his drink and pulled him away. She was quite angered by now.
"See I told you. If I were you, I would be more care." Carter stated quickly, almost in a smug way before being pulled away. He then turned to face Kate. "You ok?" He murmured, placing a hand on the small of her back. "I'm guessing he's our little pain in the neck cop friends?" He murmured as soft as he could.
Kate just nodded.

"You think I wanted to be here? I'm in uniform on a Saturday night chaperoning a bunch of drunk adults! The least you can do is not act like you don't know me. It's insulting," Fisher snapped, his grey eyes following Kate. "Don't talk about me like I'm not here!" He didn't look away as Candy whispered something in his ear, but the officer seemed to relax a little. Not much, but it was something. "Never going to understand you people."

"Kate don't say or do something you'll regret." Carter stated softly.
Kate visible stiffened at his words, her hands tightened into fists and her head slightly turned back to Fisher."That's because you're a jerk and because I don't actually know you." She hissed, finishing her drink off. "You never will if you don't try nor allow us to do what you obviously can not do." She added, walking out of earshot range.
Carter raised an eyebrow at the happenings between his friend and the officer, if he didn't know better it was a certain type of tension that could only end two ways. He looked at the woman by Fisher as to say 'look at that'. He then followed Kate, finishing his drink up and pulled her on to the dance floor. Knowing that dancing would mostly likely calm her down.
And it did, Carter had pulled Kate close, her head rested on his chest much like the close friends that they were did.

"You two have some history, huh? What happened while I was gone?" Candy asked, watching the two of them go.
"She made me look like an idiot in front of the entire county SWAT team but it's—it's not just her," Fisher sighed. Candy stood about as tall as he did in her six inch heels. It was just like her to wear something like that here. Being on equal footing felt nice; usually he towered over everyone. "We lost someone earlier today. Overdose. I knew it was going to happen, but it's never a good feeling when you're the one watching their last breath. And that's the kind of stuff heroes don't deal with. Not glamorous enough. And then they expect you to go right back to work."

(Sure. )
"Hey, it's going to fine. You just need to keep a calmer head in the future. Ok Kate? Hmm...? He's just a little high on the horse, but so are you, but he's worse and you just have to ease him into now what is our world. You going to be ok." Carter murmured into his friend's ear and then stared off into the distance, almost plotting there next move.
Kate just followed his movements, and nodded once at the end to signify that she had been listening, which then tickled Carter. But Carter didn't mind for the moment.

After Fisher had taken some time to calm down—not many people could get him so riled up—he returned to his spot against the wall and Candy went to see a few friends across the hall, promising she'd be back. She was the one hero he could stand, the one hero Fisher actually wanted to hang around. Maybe because she flew under the radar. Not just under the radar, either—so low most people hadn't heard of her. Candy wasn't in it for the glamour. She just wanted to help, and that was the main thing they had in common.
Whoever had thrown this party, though—the kind of rich guy who threw change at beggars on the street corner—he was all about glamour. He had to have everyone's attention standing on the balcony, smiling an eerily shark-like smile. "Hello, everyone. If I could just have your attention for a moment or two, I have an announcement."
(Sorry for the late reply. Balancing more than one role play/FAA written test/orchestra/ACT/everything else in school is exciting to say the least)

{It's fine.}
Breakneck still wasn't well known, just for the fact that she was still a blur to most people. She did what she had to do to save people, not really caring about publicity or what could happen to her. However Katherine still had her head on Carter's shoulder, and only pulled away at the man on the balcony. She just raised an eyebrow and looked at Carter briefly then back at the man.
Carter stopped their tour of the dancefloor and slid his arm across to her lower back. He returned her raised eyebrow. They both knew that trouble was very near.

"You're Faulkner's finest. Every single one of you. Police officers, firemen, all together in one room. It's—well, it brings a tear to my eye," said the host, pretending to sniffle before bursting out in laughter. "Ha! Anyway, I hope—" All heads turned toward a clatter and a thump on the dance floor, where someone had abruptly fallen unconscious. "Oh, they did. They touched the punch."
"Was it spiked?" Candy and Fisher called simultaneously. They exchanged glances, blushing, before she went for the steps and he headed toward the slumped figure
"Well...I wouldn't say 'spiked'...'poisoned' is a better word for it."

Carter and Kate turned look at each other with panic in their eyes.
"I should be fine, you on the other hand..." Kate murmured looking over Carter. "I... You got a closed drink. You should be fine. If you have a closable bag on you then we can take samples and try to find the cure." Kate stated.
Carter rolled his eyes, Kate knew him way too well. He dug around in his pockets for a moment, coming out with a leak proof bag. "Meet me by the back door." He stated.
Kate nodded, knowing he would need a moment to get there, but it would only take her a few milliseconds to do so. She stocked to a corner and prepared to hike her dress up in the front at least a little bit.
