There was a small stretch of silence when Michael realised that this stranger was offering him a hand. It definitely wasn’t something that he was used to, and the friendly gesture had caught him a little off guard. Didn’t this seem a little too easy…? After a moment of hesitance, the slim male took Chance’s hand and slowly rose to his feet, steadying himself as best as he could. “Thanks,” he murmured, blinking at the crisscross of his vision. Despite the twinge of suspicion that was there on his expression, his shoulders seemed to loosen, and his green eyes seemed to shine.

"Of course." Chance replied. His trip to the library would have to wait it seemed. He'd come back tomorrow night, probably. "I live in this building here. We just have to go around front and walk in. Can you hide your wings or something?" He asked, trying to get a better look at the form under the dark feathers. If his wings were hurt, it would explain why he hadn't tucked them away yet. It wouldn't be easy to hide him, but maybe few enough people were around to see if they just made a break for it?

After listening to Chance, Michael ducked his head a little, feeling his chest tighten a little in what could have expressed a variety of things, really. A little bit of embarrassment tossed in with weariness and wariness. "I can't," he answered reluctantly while resting his hand on the side of his pale hair with his eyebrows knitting together. Not in hostility, honestly, but more in thought. "Are you... are you acquainted with my kind?" He then asked, his quiet voice mildly curious. It would explain why the other individual seemed so calm and even benevolent.
Michael's almond-shaped green eyes then turned to face the building Chance had been speaking of. It would cause more than just a simple inconvenience if he were spotted like this with the ruffled inky wings displayed for all to see. No, it wasn't just himself who'd be in trouble; he'd be dragging this stranger in as well. The idea didn't sit too well with him. Despite his general mistrust for those around himself (although it did irk himself to know that he was, at the same time, very easily trusting and attached of others once he became familiar with them), he didn't want to drag someone into a mess that they wouldn't be able to escape from. So, he tried to tuck them away, though instead of concealing themselves, they twitched weakly. Biting his lower lip, Michael only shook his head to the side. "I really don't think I can," he uttered underneath his breath, more to himself than to Chance.

Chance gave a small nod to the stranger's question, though his attention was more focused on the stranger's inability to hide his wings. "Whatever happened, you'll probably need more than a day's rest to recover from this. Here, just sit tight for a second, and I'll bring you a blanket. You can cover yourself and we'll go inside." He said. He considered just rushing him into the building, but the stranger didn't seem as comfortable with that idea. Besides, he'd feel horrible if he pressured him to risk it and then something happened. "I'll help you sit out of the way like you were, and I'll be right back." He promised.

Normally, Michael most likely would have opted to protest to this, though all his vigor had faded from the previous collision, leaving him to simply slightly nod his head in understanding. The promise also caught him a little off-guard as well. It had been a very long time since he'd heard someone speak so earnestly, after all. Before the stranger could leave, he raised his head so that his sharp, yet softened green eyes could regard those of the stranger's. "Hey," he started while rubbing the back of his neck a little sheepishly. His lips, which had been pressed a little tightly in the beginning, had formed the smallest touch of a smile. "Thanks. Really. I owe you for this."

Chance offered another smile and dipped his head. "Think nothing of it." He reassured the stranger before walking out of the alley and back into the building. Within a few minutes, he returned holding a large blanket folded up in his arms. "It might be a little heavy." He cautioned, hoping the weight wasn't too much for his injured wings. He unfolded the blanket and draped it across his shoulders. He made sure it reached all the way to the stranger's wingtips before offering him another hand up to help him out of the alley. He would take the time to explain his familiarity, though that didn't seem too important right now.

With his chin lightly propped against his arm, Michael waited for the stranger to return. With his side leaning against the wall behind himself, his calm forest green eyes glanced up to see the vast blue sky, despite how narrow it appeared to be due to his current location and the tall structures surrounding him. He was relieved to find that he could think a little more clearly than before, and at this notion, he let his head rest on his arms once again. Come to think of it, he hadn't even asked the young individual for his name, and it bemused him to some extent that it hadn't been the first thing he'd inquired. Perhaps he'd ask once they returned.
Tentatively shrugging the heavy blanket on his shoulders with the help of the stranger after rising to his feet, Michael blinked at the hand that was offered in his direction once more, though he took it, this time with less hesitation and even a small nod of gratitude. "By the way," he spoke up, the small smile on his face shifting to a look of curiosity. "I'm Michael, but... most people refer me as Mika. I... don't think I've heard yours."

"Micheal." Chance nodded with a slight smile. "I'm Chance." He replied. "Are you okay to start heading to the building?" He checked. He was ready, but he didn't want to move Micheal to quickly if he wasn't prepared. He might be injured elsewhere aside from his wings. He tried to prepare a mental checklist of everything he'd need to help, but there wasn't exactly enough processing power under that curly mop of chestnut hair to keep him focused, or to remember things he listed three or four check marks ago. He'd just have to remember them as they came to him.

Miranda bit her lip and glanced at the window. She knew she wouldn't be able to see if there was any scientists lurking and listening in, but she was still cautious with these things. Really, they hadn't hurt her much over the years. She has had a good run. Really, the only time she was hurt was when she resisted. She learned it was easier to just go with what they told her. "They aren't bad..." She said, trailing off. She wasn't sure if she should risk telling the male about the accident. "They will give you most of things you request and they are never late with a meal." In the end, she decided to leave off the bad bits. He didn't need to know about the tests or occasional temperamental scientists. As long as he didn't act out, he wouldn't have to find out about those things. "What do you eat?" She changed the subject quickly, not wanting to think about anything depressing.
---
Eve didn't like the idea of dealing with the son, but she feared denying him would only make the father angry. She shook her head. "Fine." She shortly before stepping out of the room. the girl looked around the house now. When she first entered, she didn't really get a clear look. Her only goal had been to find a safe room with a dark corner. his home was pretty nice, not as nice as her home, but it was cozy. Her eyes naturally fell on the other male but she quickly diverted her eyes away. The selkie decided the walls were better to look at. She waited for the older male to start walking, assuming she was suppose to follow him.

Wolf-
Chance paced himself to walk next to Micheal, keeping a careful eye on him. He didn't want to risk him falling and hurting himself further. Once or twice he reached out and steadied the winged boy to keep him balanced before he continued into the building. Fortunately, he lived on the first floor so they didn't have to wait for an elevator or brave the stair case. He unlocked the door and let him in.
The place had come pre-furnished. No tv, but a fold out couch, table, two chairs, basic kitchen appliances, and in the other room a bed and dresser. He hadn't bothered to buy any extra since he really could have to up and leave any moment. He guided the stranger over to the couch and walked toward the bathroom to get the bandages and first aid kit from the medicine cabinet. "Let me see your wings now that it's safe. We can try to set them and you can wait here for them to heal up. In truth, we're the same." Chance smiled, one of his tawny and white wings unfolding briefly, and then tucking back into place. "You've got nothing to worry about here."

Zero -
Emendr smiled at that. "Fish is the best thing to eat, but I can digest most anything a normal human can eat. Except milk. It's kinda hard on my stomach." He wasn't too confident about her answer that she gave for the scientist's temperament, but he'd just have to go off that for now. "What about you? What do you eat?" He asked, still with an amused smile on his face. It was kind of a funny question in his opinion.
--
Aarow caught the brief glance from the stranger and turned his face away as well. He was typically nervous of new people and though she didn't seem like the sort of person he usually tried to avoid, he couldn't help but feel like she didn't want to be around him. He took a step closer to Julian, watching the ground by his feet as Julian began to walk toward the front door. The door came open and the two headed out across the snow to the car.

Miranda couldn't help but focus on the normal human part. The way the male said it, made him sound like he wasn't human. There were other hints along the way, but this confirmed her theory. So, what was he? Miranda jumped up, ready to ask, when Emendr spoke again. She couldn't help but to let out a sigh. She should have never changed the subject. Food was about one of the most boring subjects, at least compared to what her companion was. Still, she didn't want to be rude. "Anything really, but I don't really like canned foods or raw foods." She waited a second before blurting out, "What are you?" She clamped her mouth shut and her face turned a bright red. she shouldn't have been so forward, but she really did want to know.
--
The selkie let a smile slowly grow at the sight of the snow. She wanted to roll around and just sit there, but that wouldn't be a normal human thing, would it? Eve looked away from the snow to find she was behind. The girl followed the males into the car. She glanced at the younger son to make sure she was doing the right things. The strap was odd and a bit uncomfortable, but she accepted it. "My home is near the beach." She said.

Emendr hesitated, his smile slipping slightly. The question almost sounded like something one of the scientists would ask. But he was sure anyone would ask that question if they knew he was in a lab cell. "Um... I'm a person?" He replied quietly. 'Human' didn't really fit... but he wasn't an animal or a monster. "I'm just kinda tall... and my skin's just a little squishier..." Should he mention the tail? Probably not... or the odd colors. He'd never actually seen a salamander or newt as reference so... "But I'm still a person."
--
Julian raised an eyebrow at that. They had new neighbors? He didn't remember any construction. "Alright. You'll have to tell us what roads to take." He replied as he started up the car. Aarow stopped outside the vehicle, looking for Eve to choose whether she wanted front passenger seat or the back row. He didn't want to take her preference, and he didn't want to crowd her in the back seat. She still seemed like she didn't want to be around others too much.

"Oh, okay. Yeah." Miranda said, not sure how to answer. She nodded and looked around the room. She hoped she hadn't offended the person. she looked up at the grate with a hopeful smile. "I'm a person too." She offered up information about her, hoping to make up for her blunder. "I don't think I'm too short or tall, but I'm not squishy. In some places, I am, but I also have metal parts and a yellow eye." She waited, hoping he wouldn't just leave.
--
Eve nodded. She was pretty sure she would be able to remember the direction. She choose the back seat, not wanting to be up front. It was a bit intimidating and really, she just wanted to get home. "Well, you can stop near port. I can make my way home from there." She reassured the human. The older one sounded surprised and Even didn't want to mess up when she was close to reaching her goal.

(Sorry we did a dinner thing)
Metal parts? "Do they look like regular parts?" He asked, a little curious. "Or are they different?" He could picture someone like the scientists having limbs that didn't really look like limbs, but he wasn't exactly sure how to picture the metal parts. Were they stiff? How did they emulate joints? "Do they ever get too cold or too warm?"
--
Julian frowned at that. "Absolutely not. If there's no road, we'll walk you home but you're not going by yourself. It's getting late and you've already had a lot to deal with today." He stated. In truth, this was only growing stranger. She wanted to go down to the port but he couldn't think of any houses near there. Then she thought they'd just leave her on the beach so close to dusk? There weren't even consistent street lights.
Aarow buckled himself into the front seat as Julian spoke. He looked back in the rearview mirror briefly, a little confused about Julian's adamant choice.

No problem. )
Miranda looked at her legs. Well, they looked similar. She wouldn't call them identical, but they had the similar structure of a leg. She didn't bother comparing her human skin to her metal skin. That would be a waste of time. "They looked similar, but the metal plates are white. My metal leg actually works better than my human one. I'm horrible at running or doing anything athletic really." She chuckled a bit as she sat down once again. Sometimes she really hated her leg. That was usually when she was doing tests and when the scientists were pushing her to run faster. Normally, she couldn't care less. "They only changed temperature in the beginning. After a while, they gave me new limbs." She tried the best to explain.
--
Eve now looked out the window. The girl forced herself not to shake or blurt out something she might regret. Fear and rage built up inside her. She didn't understand why humans wouldn't leave her alone. All she wanted to do was go home. She wanted to go back to her family and curl up with them. Play in the snow with everyone then sleep in the sun. She didn't want to be in this leggy form with no warmth. She blinked away the tears that threatened to form. No weakness. She needed to think of a plan again. She gave a weak nod in agreement. She, at least, had to get to the docks. Then she would figure out how to loose the humans.

Emendr listened quietly, still trying to visualize having mechanical limbs as she spoke. It wasn't the easiest thing to do, having never even seen a regular prosthetic. When she spoke about physical activity, he nodded in agreement. "It's kinda hard to run without tripping sometimes." He was about to add that his tail got in the way and tangled his feet, but he caught himself. He hadn't mentioned the tail yet. He wasn't sure why, but he felt like if he kept telling her all his oddities, she might become less commutative.
--
When she didn't reply, Julian only let the car start going, heading down the dirt road toward the port. He wasn't confident about her choices, but he couldn't really keep her from leaving the house. After a few minutes, he brought the car to a stop in one of the parking spots by the dock. He turned his head back toward Eve. "Which way from here?"

Miranda nodded, despite disagreeing and him not being able to see her. She didn't really care about the latter. She never really tripped. In the beginning, she had, but now, she just grew tired easily. Her mind searched for another topicas she really couldn't think of a way to continue this. She then recalled his origin. "So, you mentioned you left your old place, does that mean you saw the outside?" She asked trying to hold herself back from sounding too eager.
---
Even looked around. She hadn't come up with anything. The best she got was wander around 'lost' while looking for her skin. Hopefully, she could grab it and change before they knew any better. She looked around the dock just to check if it was deserted. Except for the couple of boats, there wasn't a soul. She pointed down the bank. "I think it is that way." She said, going to unbuckle her seatbelt.

Emendr stopped. He didn't want anyone else to hear about the frozen place. If they knew he'd seen it, would they suspect him of not wanting to be here? Or would they try to take the memory from him? They'd tried something like that before. It hadn't worked properly and the memory was still there, but hard to remember clearly. "I... felt cold when they moved me. Everything was frozen. Even if the outside is better, it's not a place I could survive long." He said slowly.
--
Think? "Do you recognize the area? Is this the right dock?" Julian asked. He knew the car couldn't go far on the sand, so he put it in park and climbed out. Aarow followed, still keeping quiet. He looked both ways along the waterline, trying to think if he'd ever seen a house down here, or a family on their way home. Julian began walking in the direction Eve had pointed. "Well, let's get going then."

Miranda frowned and looked away from the vent. She had wanted to hear about the green earth or warm sun. She didn't not expect the cold. She never liked the cold. It made her metal limbs slower and her plates were freezing. "Okay." She said, a little lost on what to say.
---
Eve said nothing. She got out silently and begun to pretend to lead the way. Her eyes remained on the water most of the time, looking to the skin to be washed up. She started to panic when the sun started to set and there was still no skin. They were far down the bank now. She took a glance around to find a home to claim but none were around. The girl bit her lip.

Emendr frowned a little. Did he detect disappointment? Hm...
"Some of the trees had leaves. Thin needles, and they grew in cone shapes. And there was a big sheet of ice. Like really big. I think the whole building could fit on it." He said, hoping to keep her interest in the topic. "Ah, can you swim? I mean, metal limbs sound like they would sink?"
--
After so long of walking, Julian broke the silence with a small sigh. "Hey, Eve. Listen, I've had this cabin for years. We've never had neighbors. I know there's no other cabins around. Please, tell me the truth." He said, his voice remaining even. Aarow stopped, no longer following the two at Julian's words. He didn't like the idea of being led out this far on a lie, and it made him nervous something was about to happen.
|

Miranda felt her interest peak. Why didn't the man tell her these things first? The trees he was descripting sounded like pine trees and perhaps the ice was a frozen lake. She wasn't sure. She had read about these things and seen pictures, but it was hard to be sure. She shrugged at the swimming part. "I can't really swim. I mean, I can, but it is more like flailing with some movement." She couldn't help but to laugh at the memory. It was stressful when the scientists were watching her with a critical eye, but now she felt more relaxed.
---
Eve could feel her legs grow weak, not just because she had been using legs for the first time. She couldn't meet the male's eyes. Instead, she focused on the calming waves. "I can't go home." She said weakly. Her shoulder's slumped in defeat. "I lost something and I can't go home without it. I think it was somewhere on this bank. I just didn't tell you, because..." It all spilled out of her mouth before she could stop.

Emendr turned his head a bit at that. "But you don't sink quickly? At least that's good." He offered. Still, the thought of losing a limb to a metal piece made him grow concerned that if it were to happen to him, he wouldn't be able to swim anymore. "Do the metal pieces rust? Or need replacing?" He inquired.
--
Julian frowned at that, shaking his head. "No item should prevent you from being welcome at home." He tried to reason with her, but Aarow spoke up for the first time, interrupting his next thought.
"What did you lose? We can help you look for it if you feel so strongly about it." He offered.

Miranda shook her head, but had a smile on her face. Despite the metal made her different, she was fond of them. "Not that I know of. When I first awoke, my limbs were more heavy and slow, but now they work much better than my normal limbs. Actually..."She stopped. She didn't want to share her fears to the male quite yet. Her human limbs had started to feel sluggish. They trembled and threatened to give way when she was walking to the tests. It was actually quite scary and Miranda didn't want to voice her concerns, hoping it could just go away. "Their really advanced." She ended. "Do you have anything that helps you swim?" She asked, wanting to steer both her thoughts and the conversation away from her limbs.
---
Eve frowned at the question and continued to keep her eyes away from the humans. Her lower lip trembled and she bit it to keep it still. The help they offered sounded genuine. They hadn't hurt or tried to keep her. She could tell them about the skin but not the significance of the object and be safe, right? She just really wanted to get home and was starting to get tried. Her mind was starting to feel heavy from the combined efforts of stress and loss of blood. She started to not care about the consequences. "It's a fur skin. It's brown and soft. I lost it in the sea, but it was near shore." She said.

Emendr nodded at that. He only grew more curious what these metal limbs actually looked like, but he chose to go on and answer her question. "Yes, lots of things." He replied. "I don't have any hair, so I moved quickly in the water. My fingers are webbed near the base, and so are my feet. They aren't really shaped normally either, but they help move me in the water. And... well... my tail works as a rudder. My eyes work better in the water too. I'm just surprised I was made with lungs instead of gills." He joked, though it was something he did wonder sometimes. He clearly liked the water better, so why wasn't he built for only water?
--
Julian nodded slightly as she spoke, but he was starting to recognize signs of fatigue in her voice and face. Well, she didn't really seem to get a decent rest before she'd wanted to leave. "Okay, I'll comb the beach within shouting distance of here. I think you should sit down a while and rest. You've been through a lot today. Aarow, I want you to stay with her. If you two decide to search the opposite direction, stay together and meet me back by the car when you're done." He instructed. He didn't want Aarow searching alone, or for Eve to be left unguarded while she was in a weakened state.
Aarow nodded a bit, turning to Eve for her response.

Miranda focused on his words. She found herself both overwhelmed and fascinated by her companion. "So, you can't breath under water?" She asked sounding a bit perplexed. Everything else in his system was built for the water. The way he described himself was interesting. She had never seen a tail or webs on a human and couldn't quite imagine them. She wanted too see him to piece together all this information. She could ask the scienists if they could allow them to meet.
---
Eve wanted to protest, but felt too tired to. Right now, she was grateful they had taken her information without questioning. Her head had started to ache and she sat down. "I think...I would like to rest." She said slowly. She didn't make eye contact with the male she as left with. Honestly, she wasn't too worried about him. The older human seemed to trust him. She just didn't feel like much talking at the moment.
