What are your hot takes? I have some but my brain isn't working right now so.. Ok nevermind I do have some now that I think about it so: - Not excusing the previous bad writing with the series, but I don't think that the writing surrounding Nightheart is that bad. Sure, characters act a little ooc, but not something too terrible. Sparkpelt has always had that sort of personality, we had a one-sentence explanation (may not seem like much, but still an explanation) of why Finchlight changed, and Lilyheart being strict with hm is normal apprentice/mentor behaviour, don't tell me apprentices and mentors don't argue or get frustrated with each other. - Squirrelflight isn't a bad character, but the way she keeps being put in the spotlight again and again is largely what makes her unlikeable. If she was just off to the side for ASC, they wouldn't be butchering her so badly, and we could still have the good Squilf from TBC (who I loved). - The handling with disabilities in the series may be not that good, but they are wild cats. They may be anthropomorphised in their thoughts and actions, but they're still cats trying to survive in the wild. And I'm honestly really impressed with how they handled most of them.

I’ve got a new hot take due to being reminded on the Rowanstar threads.
Needletail should have gone to the Dark Forest, cause there wasn’t much she did to deserve Starclan. I seriously don’t get why people like her.

I seriously don’t get why people like her. I hate Needletail too but if cats like Skystar, Leopardstar, Blackstar, Mudclaw and Rainflower can go to StarClan, so can she. Although the reason she got in is likely because of her sacrificing her own life in order to save Violetpaw. Then again, so did Juniperclaw as well later on (for Violetshine and Shadowsight) and he went to the Dark Forest. So there's that...

I'm gonna try to not be very biased here (because Needletail is one of my favorites) For me they're really different cases. They both grew up around the same time and were similiarly affected by the others (as in speaking up against Rowanstar & not following the warrior code). Juniperclaw had an apprentice himself and also became deputy, so he was trusted by Tigerheart. So from point of view he should have known better to go so low that he poisons a clan's prey. For Needletail I'm not sure what she ever did to have people say she should go to the df? She was a spicy apprentice who also spoke up against Rowanstar and joined the Kin, like many others (Dawnpelt, Yarrowleaf, Snowbird etc.) and they don't get the same treatment, while they most likely done the same things, with the only difference that the spotlight isn't on them. I stand by that none of them should deserve the dark forest (or whatever juniperclaw's job is now). Both of them redeemed themselves by the end of their lives in my eyes

I stand by that none of them should deserve the dark forest (or whatever juniperclaw's job is now). Both of them redeemed themselves by the end of their lives in my eyes Oh, I agree that Juniperclaw should've certainly known better than to poison SkyClan's freshkill pile. If more cats had been poisoned, or even died, than just Sparrowpelt (who thankfull recovered) then I'm pretty certain no one would ever argue that Juniperclaw deserved StarClan after sacrificing his life for Violetshine and Shadowkit though. And I always had a problem with the fact that his last words were to tell Tigerstar he's sorry and not Leafstar and SkyClan who he actually endangered with his actions. Which might be the reason he got put into the Dark Forest. I think him being the border guardian between StarClan and the DF is a good fit for him. As for Needletail, I did say that she's fine in StarClan considering that other cats who have done much worse things than her are there as well. My main problem with her is the fact that, even after she died and went to StarClan, she blamed everything on Rowanstar in the RoF prologue instead of taking accountability for her own actions in the rebellion. Which sort of felt like a retcon since she did take accountability for Violetpaw in SS. Yes, she was a young apprentice and yes, other older Clanmates of hers (such as Ratscar and Scorchfur) contributed to the downfall of ShadowClan and taking over of the Kin as well by wishing for the "old days of ShadowClan" and criticizing Rowanstar's every decision. But it's infuriating that everyone ended up putting most of the blame on Rowanstar in the end, including Needletail. And I'm not saying Rowanstar is blameless. Just that he did not really get a chance as leader after the writing team decided that his son Tigerstar II would be a better choice instead. They did not even let him recover and build ShadowClan back up, after all. He was just written to give up while barely having any of his dignity left. My other problems with Needletail include her only starting to change her mind about the Kin after Rain was injured and then killed by Darktail not long afterwards. Before that, she was perfectly happy to be with the Kin and even when Rain challenged Darktail to fight him, she looked happy at the prospect of violence and him winning, before things went downhill for him. Who knows if and when she'd have changed her mind if he had won that fight or not been killed. The other and biggest issue I have with her is the relationship between her and Violetkit/paw. She was often so possessive and manipulative when it came to her. Even though I get that she did it so Violetpaw would not leave her, it's still not an excuse, just an explanation. I understand Needletail was a rebellious young cat who felt disrespected and neglected by her Clanmates. I know that she also apologized to Violetpaw not long before her death and then sacrificed her life to save her. She doesn't deserve the Dark Forest, in my opinion. But I still just don't like her. And that's how it is. Sorry about this rather long reply. I just have a lot of thoughts on Needletail. Moreso than on Juniperclaw lol.

𝕱𝖑𝖚𝖙𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖋𝖆𝖑𝖑 dw about the long reply!! I never really looked at it from this perspective (and it's been kind of a hot minute since I've read avos, currently trying to reread it). Rain definitely played a big part in her character and probably would have stayed if he didn't die, yeah. The Violetpaw part is really true, I don't have anything else to say other than I agree. I do somewhat blame Rowanstar for his bad leadership, but yeah the writing team really messed him up. I think he's an interesting character. He's the type of character that's a good warrior, but isn't leader material, still it's surprising how no one tried to help him out/support him (excluding kin) Sorry if this reply is kind of all over the place, I'm kind of tired rn (+ not using quote, since I don't want the thread to be filled with this)

The Broken Code is one of the worst arcs. I always assumed the fandom didn't like it but that was not true. So I guess I'm in the minority. But I hate the pacing and squirrelflight in this arc. I'm indifferent about the characters and I really didn't care when Bristlefrost died. (Whoo just had to get that off my chest.) Of course, if you love this arc go ahead! The Bristle one is a burning take

The Bristle one is a burning take Honestly I think I know why I feel that way and it's not because of Bristlefrost herself. I'm a more recent fan so when I got into Warriors AVOS was already done and TBC was just starting. So I greedily read every book until I reached TBC. I just can't stand waiting for anything so waiting in between books for TBC might have affected my opinion on her. I plan on re-reading the whole arc in its entirety later so my opinion might change. Though tbh I didn't care for Bristle since the start so might opinion might not change.

The only reason bristle's death made me sad was Rootspring's reaction (I don't even like BristleRoot). I usually dislike an arc when I don't feel any connection to the mcs and this is exactly what it was. They were all kind of meh (except Shadowsight). Totally agree w everything

As I said, Rowanstar is not blameless. But he's certainly not the only cat to blame for the (technically double) downfall of ShadowClan. It was a joined effort lol. It truly is weird how fairly well he was doing in BrS as a new leader just after Blackstar died though, only to then get written the way he was in AVoS. I think he's a "right character, wrong time" type of leader. He was fairly aggressive in BrS but then got shown to have a more peaceful approach in AVoS (although some might argue that was also already character butchering to make him appear unfit/weak to lead, in comparison to the great saviour that is Tigerstar II /s). I think Rowanclaw had the right qualities for leadership but just did not get a fair chance imo. And I'm saying that as someone who is still neutral on him as a character outside the AVoS arc. No worries, hope you can have some rest soon! As for quoting others, I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with that since this is a thread were discussions/debate can happen, but I understand if you want to tag rather than quote.

Here are some of my hot takes, there've been a few threads about hot takes this year and I just copied mine from a more recent one since my mind is otherwise distracted right now:
- Lionblaze's PoV was interesting in PoT (not so much in OotS but he still had his moments there) - As I said on another thread about controversial opinions, he's a neat character (and quite underrated) - TNP was a good arc (it had bad moments but the concept overall was great for the most part) - Dawn is still the best travelling book (fight me)

- Dawn is still the best travelling book (fight me) With pleasureImo Tallstars Revenge and Graystripes Vow are the best travelling books, followed by Thunder. However, I think it is because there is very little journey in these books compared to everything else. Heck, even with Dawn, a lot of these travelling books is just, well, not travelling! GV has a whole other half of the book dedicated to Gremlin, and they also spend a few chapters at the twoleg house trying the free the kittypets. Thunder spends a while at the park, and the addition of two POVS on the journey REALLY speeds it up. Sometimes this is a good thing, like with GV and Thunder, but TR, despite being the best of the bunch, spends less than ten chapters on the journey. I don't know why, but my favorite kind of journey is the one where they end up failing, but they learn a different lesson along the way. TR shows that revenge must not blind you, and GV showed that Graystripe was still a great warrior by teaching Warriorclan. Dawn takes the number four spot, even if its not a high bar to reach in terms of travelling books.

In part due to nostalgia but also in larger part due to the Great Journey on which the Clans helped each other out but also had to settle/set aside differences in order to work together. I loved all the different little character moments and interactions. Especially between some of the background characters.

I didn’t care much at all for Ashfur being the main antagonist of TBC, and all I see when it comes to him is an overpowered character written solely to appease complaints from years and years ago. Had he been an antagonist earlier, maybe it would have made sense to me, but it was so much later and forced Squirrelflight and Bramblestar back into spotlight that neither needed.
Onestar is a super interesting character and I loved seeing the consistency in his cowardice and how he was able to play a crucial role in many different instances when we needed a conflict. I really liked him slowly degrading over time, with the fall from grace kind of energy rather than a build-up to greatness with even all the chances he was given to improve. It’s one of the only instances in the series that I actually enjoyed seeing a character that was written and destined to pretty much fail, because other characters didn’t have to be tarnished or knocked down to do it.
Berrynose would have been such an interesting leader had he magically lived and succeeded as Deputy, may have given Thunderclan some interesting leadership for once lol
I don’t care much at all for Skyclan and still wish they stayed in the Gorge where at least they were unique and had interesting plots.

Firestar shouldn't have gone on the quest to bring back SkyClan, Sorreltail should have. Bluestar should have gone to the dark forest ???? Literally why to both of these? Sorreltail would have been an apprentice during Firestar's Quest, and she's a random cat to send to rebuild Skyclan, regardless of Skyclan blood. And why would Bluestar go to the DF?? These are certainly takes...
