I remember when Firestar was looking at his newborn daughters, he was thinking about how they might become the leader of their Clan one day. Looks like that finally came true for Squirrelstar. Funny, I was thinking something similar when they had the leadership change idea at the end of Shadow. Now it's happened for real. I bet he's so proud of her. Do you think Firestar gave her her first life or last life? I bet Thunderstar probably gave her a life too, for some reason. I'm not sure to be honest. It could go any way. I'm pretty sure that Leafpool and Sandstorm were there as well. And also hoping for Hollyleaf.

I could see her being the one to give her her ninth life. Sandstorm definitely. I hope they let Hollyleaf give her a life too, but dunno.

I know Squirrelstar does happen, but do we get to see her leader ceremony? Edit: Went and read some chapters, disappointed we don't. Would have still liked to see it even if she does end up being like Nightstar and not getting 9 lives after all.

Looking forward to seeing the wiki updating It's updated. Though I'm confused why Nightheart and Sunbeam still aren't listed as mates (and a wiki mod even reverted an edit someone made to try and list them as such? They've been mates since, what, Shadow?)

Were they ever officially called mates? I don’t remember if they were or it was otherwise official aside from what they declared to switch Clans. That might be why it’s not there.

People keep mentioning that Berryheart wasn’t even allowed to put it to vote, but the problem was that the code requires medicine cat support, and it turns out she did not have it. So it could not be put to vote via the code, not because Tigerstar just said “no” to it. Thank you for saying this.

Still hope NightSun won't be endgame but that's a personal preference and it really is kinda weird that they've only now been labeled as mates on the wiki after Thunder came out, when they've indeed been calling each other mates ever since late Shadow. Although, maybe the wiki saw Nightheart leaving ShadowClan at the end of that book as a break-up (and it sort of was) but considering that Sunbeam also followed him to ThunderClan at the end of it to be with him, it was clear since then or even just the Thunder blurb and preview that they are truly mates now.

Just finished the book and wanted to post my reaction before reading through the spoiler thread for the first time. I have no idea if my opinions are standard or what the consensus is, but hopefully it’s alright!
I LOVED this book! The park cats were a huge highlight, they had so much character and personality. It was really refreshing to see Clan cats learning about and respecting another group’s traditions and values, and even seeing a variety of behaviors among them (like how Rook doesn’t accept Twoleg food, and how Bee is more spiritual than the rest.) Also, Waffle’s backstory was surprisingly tragic. I’m excited to see more of him and Wasp in Wind!
Frostpaw’s journey of healing and processing what’s happened to her hit really deep for me. It was so nice to see her getting to let her guard down and be surrounded by loving and supportive friends. I was really struck by the lines about her remembering who she was before her trauma, that that part of herself is still real and valid. Knowing it’s okay to hope, to let others in and seek joy and comfort in life again. To recognize the pain, but believe she can keep living through and past it. It helps dull the arrow-to-the-heart that is Curlfeather’s reveal. The way Curl talks so bluntly about manipulating her daughter was gut-wrenching.
I was initially dreading Frostpaw and Nightheart’s four-chapter journey, but I quite enjoyed it! Also main-cast healthy and wholesome platonic friendship, woo! Nightheart’s progression from Shadow keeps its trajectory here, and it’s still wonderful.
Sunbeam’s arc was lovely; I’m so glad she got to decide ThunderClan was her home and where she’s meant to/wants to be, even if Nightheart isn’t there.
Her first trial with Spotfur’s kits was excellent, and I loved seeing their personalities! I’d be happy for Sunbeam to start mentoring one of them before the arc’s end. The only problem was, the other two trials felt kind of underwhelming, having to follow up the first. Still, they were good thematically, and they felt like pretty solid tests for whether a cat should join ThunderClan. Does she care about and empathize with even the youngest members? Can she cooperate with Clanmates and lead patrols? Is she invested enough in her new home to learn the territory by heart? And, with Cherryfall, does she truly want to be in ThunderClan, so much so that she can navigate rough interpersonal relations with Clanmates who don’t trust her yet, and may take a long time to warm up to her? I think it’s all really good stuff.
Okay, I know it’s not that important, but why are Plumstone and Dewnose randomly spending all their time together and acting super antagonistic? I guess they are first cousins through Thornclaw and Brightheart. Maybe they’ve been friends for years, and we’ve just never seen them together onscreen? But like… Plumstone’s brother has a WindClan mate. Maybe she has beef with them, and that’s where it’s coming from? No idea for Dewnose. Maybe he and Sorrelstripe were devastated by Nightheart leaving in Sky, and Dewnose can’t forgive him as easily as she can? We just aren’t given any explanation. But maybe now that Nightheart’s home, he’ll have more personal knowledge of them than Sunbeam did and we’ll learn why these random warriors don’t like her.
Also, it feels like a big missed opportunity for Sunbeam not to interact with Fernstripe. We still know next to nothing about her, which is kinda disappointing.
Those are just small issues though. Overall, I really enjoyed this one, maybe the most of the whole arc so far! I love how ASC devotes so much care to its protagonists’ growth as characters, allowing the plot to go hand-in-hand with their development.
Edit: Almost forgot— Tree finally gets to be an effective Mediator!

I finally got a chance to read this book throughout Thanksgiving break so here are my thoughts: I got to admit, the new team are really stepping up their game and Kate did an awesome job here. This book is now officially my 2nd favorite book 4 for the series.
I wasn't much of a fan of Frostpaw in the first half of the arc but it this book, she is just a precious little child and I hope for the best for her. I'm so glad she finally has a chance to heal and get support in a healthy environment after everything she's been through.
Sunbeam seems to found a home in TC now despite Nightheart being gone which I'm glad about, it seems to be a healthier environment for her too compared to being in ShC. Her trials were pretty fun to read, especially with Spotfur's kits. I also love how she stood up to Berryheart and Cherryfall, those two are jerks and deserved to be put in their place. Also I love her relationship with her in-laws, it was pretty sweet.
Nightheart I loved to see acting as a big brother to Frostpaw and also worrying over Sunbeam throughout the book, makes me like him even more. I enjoyed the traveling chapters too, they were paced pretty good and it's fun to see otters.
I honestly saw the Curlfeather and Splashtail reveal coming but man that must've hurt Frostpaw to learn that she was used by her own mother along with her cousin/crush (that shouldn't have been a thing)
Honestly I thought Berryheart was going to do worse than try to have Tigerstar step down and it was funny seeing her fail so miserably, but it also felt anti-climatic which I'm a little disappointed about but it's not that big of an issue, she kinda deserved to be exiled after everything she did.
I loved the park cats, they were awesome, especially Waffle, Bee, and Rook. I was really hoping for Bee or Rook to join but instead Wasp joined, which I was surprised about Bee and Rook had some development that made me think that one of them would join.
I wouldn't call him a jerk, but Smoky was a jerk for calling the twoleg on Frostpaw and having her getting spayed as a result. His kits are cute though. Whistlepaw was also great too and I love her.
I was hoping Squilf would retire or be rejected but I'm not too upset having her as leader, at least Brambleclaw retires as much as I dislike him. At least we have deputy Ivypool, she's doing a great job, and so is Tree, it's about time he was acknowledged.
Idk if it's just me, but I've noticed a handful of cross-Clan friendships, I was wondering if this is a hint of what Frostpaw was talking about, about having peace between Clans instead of rivalry. And Graykit mentioning how he wants to catch every type of prey around the lake, I'm slowly starting to think Sunnyfall is working with HC/J, definitely a POS reference.
Overall, I had fun with this book, pacing was pretty good and loved the character development there was in this book. This arc is shaping up to be in my top three. Hope it goes well for Wind and Star.

Anybody else feel like this arc so far has been really low-stakes? Even POT which was pretty leisurely still had the whole prophecy looming over the whole thing. The low stakes have so far negatively affected my view of the arc. I hope Wind will start ramping up the plot. Well the stakes have risen way more now that splashtail is leader

Well the stakes have risen way more now that splashtail is leader That's true though I feel like it took too long for the stakes to raise. We're already on the 5th book. Then again my opinion might change when the whole arc is out and I do a reread. I hate waiting for books to come out so when the book is particularly slow then I don't usually like it.

When I started reading, River was going to come out in a few months, so I’m not too used to waiting for the books. However, I feel like the super editions kinda help hold me for a bit. Same with the graphic novels.
