Fireblaze flicked her ear in acknowledgment of Petalflare as she left. "And your plan after the next six moons?" she challenged. "You just going to build your nest smack dab in the middle of the moor runners and the tunnelers? There's a reason moor runners and tunnerls train seperately, what's it like to not belong to either?" Fireblaze could feel her own temper rising, and tried to force it back down. Cobblepaw tipped his head, looking patiently at Fireblaze before he lifted his paw to groom his muzzle. He put it back down, shaking his head. “That’s not a bad idea, putting my nest right in the middle. I just think it’s more like I belong to both, instead of none at all.” He looked at her for a long time before he seemed to blink with concern. “Hey… you look kind of stiff. Are you okay? Did you sleep on a thorn, maybe?” He asked, able to smell a faint hint of blood after really focusing for a few minutes.

Jaykit hurried after Frostkit, her paws skittering across the ground as she narrowly avoided colliding with the camp wall when Frostkit suddenly changed direction. Jaykit continued to chase after her cousin, slowly starting to gain on him as she picked up speed. “She’s been following her around all day.” Ashsong said, a gentle smile growing as she thought of her sister’s kit. “Clovekit would sleep in the medicine den if I would allow her to, she’ll practically be the medicine cat apprentice in everything but name.” Morningpaw looked up at Ravenpaw, once again surprised by how different he seemed to be. “He thinks the tunnels will collapse on me like they did on our clanmates. But… that’s why I want to be a tunneler. So that I can help make them stronger.” She mewed, shuffling her paws shyly as she admitted why she had made her decision. The wind vortex had only helped her solidify that goal for her. “I know it’s a dangerous task, but if it helps our clan in the end, it’s worth the risk, right?” Frostkit scrambled to keep himself out of Jaykit’s grasp even as she kicked up her speed. He laughed as he rounded around a rock, hoping to use it to force Jaykit to run around it so she would have to chase him in circles. “I guess that’s one thing we won’t have to worry about. Starclan’s given Windclan a perfect future medicine cat. And Clovekit’s clearly ready for it.” Thorndash humored, though his eyes drooped a bit as he asked. “You don’t think Starclan will look down on her though, for… you know?” He fretted, not liking the idea that she or her sisters could be punished for their mother’s actions. “The only thing that matters is that Windclan is your main priority.” Ravenpaw shrugged. “Moors, Tunnels, doesn’t matter, as long as we do everything we can to keep Windclan strong and safe.” He looked at Morningpaw with conviction. “If your father can’t realize that, then maybe he needs more training.” He snorted, voice sharp and snarky. Jaykit’s paws scrambled as she tried to circle around the rock, but she had been going to fast and her paws went out from under her. She fell over with a squeak and rolled a couple times before she managed to scramble back up onto her paws, giving her fur a rough shake. “Of course not. And if they did, I would most certainly have some choice words for them.” Ashsong said, a fierce and protective glint in her eyes as she spoke. The queen sighed and relaxed a bit, looking down at Berrykit, Cloudkit and Copperkit, who had been sleeping peacefully during the small argument between Frostkit and Thorndash. She brushed her tail gently over Copperkit’s head and back, a small smile forming on her face, “How could they blame these innocent kits for the crimes their mother committed? They didn’t choose who they were born to, so they shouldn’t be the ones who are held accountable for them.” Morningpaw blinked at Ravenpaw, “You’re a lot different from when we were just kits.” She said bluntly. Morningpaw flinched when she realized what she had said and how it had sounded, her eyes going wide in panic, “I-I mean! Y-you always kept to yourself! A-and… and you never wanted to play either, s-so it always seemed like y-you didn’t like being around the others that much!” She said hurriedly, her ears going flat when she realized that she was only making things worse. Morningpaw hunched her shoulders and looked down at her paws, her fur growing hotter by the second, “I-I’m sorry…” She squeaked, ready to accept any sharp words that he had for her.

Tinyflower bristled as Twistedsight cleaned the pawfuls of dust and mud off his pelt. After having to see Russetpelt’s dead body due to the tunnels, she had been less than keen on anything involving tunnels. She lashed her tail. “Careful not to get all that dirt and dust on any of us. We have enough falling on us everytime we come close to those tunnels.” She sneered. Twistedsight lifted his head and blinked his strange eyes at Tinyflower in surprise, his head tilting as he looked at her, “Ah. I’m sorry, Tinyflower. I did get pretty dirty today, didn’t I?” He mewed, looking down at his messy and dirty fur. His ear flicked as he suddenly felt a bit self-conscious about his fur. “Um, I’ll be careful to not fling it everywhere. I promise.” Twistedsight added, looking back at the moor runner.

For a moment, Frostkit hesitated in his running, not liking the sight of his cousin tripping over a rock. He blinked wearily, before he realized she was getting back up, and that he had stopped running. With a squeak, he started running again, knowing the gap between them would be smaller now.
Thorndash looked at Ashsong with a hint of pride for her fierce nature when it came to protecting all six of the kits. Even if he shared no blood with Meadowbrook's kits, he was more than happy to raise them to be better and safer from their mother's legacy. He sighed lightly. "It's hard for some cats to separate kits from their parents in terms of how they might be. Let's hope that the Clan isn't so hare-brained to think these kits could ever cause that kind of harm." He decided, lowering his muzzle to touch Berrykit's head gently, and then Cloudkit and Copperkit's.
Ravenpaw listened to Morningpaw's admission and stammering apology with a lift of a brow. Hiding the flicker of warmth in his fur for such a compliment, he scoffed. "Quit all that apologizing. If you mean what you say, say it without regret." He shook his spiky fur, a mirror image of his father at that age. "I don't mind being around anyone if they take things seriously... I didn't play much as a kit because I didn't feel like it was worth my time. That's... that's all." He huffed, looking away as he hid the real reason, that seeing the other kits play with their fathers had broken his heart and filled it with envy. Playing was stupid when he didn't get to have a father to ride on like a badger.
"You look like you drowned in mud." Tinyflower scoffed bluntly, a harsh look in her eyes as she hissed. "You can also tell your fellow Tunneler, Cobblepaw, that he can go right back to training with you all in those holes in the ground. Windclan doesn't have the time or space for cats who can't make up their minds." She looked at Twistedsight up and down before she lifted her chin haughtily.

Larkbounce nodded his head, taking a deep breath. "It's important to see how both moor-runners and tunnelings are important. It'll be good to learn to understand better." After all, how he was feeling now much be the same way tunnelers felt about traveling over the open moors, and he could bear it. It will be interesting, after all. “Okay,” Tigersong nodded. “Here, I’ll keep my tail on your shoulder at first, until you think you can navigate on your own.” She told him. She stuck her tail out and laid it gently on his shoulder and then nodded for them to move forward. She slipped into the opening - having to make a conscious effort to take it slow. In an instant, they were in darkness. The tunnel entrance had a faint light that filtered in but to untrained eyes, that would only make the darkness around them more suffocating. She walked slowly further in, making sure her tail stayed just on his shoulder, until he told her he didn’t need it. Her instincts kicked in at once and the fact that she had walked these tunnels plenty of times before. She remembered this tunnel was the first one she had known like the back of her paw when she was an apprentice. She took a few more steps forward until they hit a fork. Both sections went into another training tunnel that circled back out to the moor. She stopped and glanced back at him. “How do you feel?” She asked. Once the darkness fully set in, Larkbounce couldn't deny the nerves settling into his stomach. He wasn't sure what he would do if Tigersong's tail wasn't on his shoulder, probably bonk his head into the wall a few times before getting lost. "A little nervous. It's amazing that you know your way around here." He said, his eyes still mostly seeing darkness.

( Dew) Tigersong shrugged, though she knew he couldn’t see that in the darkness. “It’s nothing,” she said sheepishly. “These tunnels are good for a quick stroll, they’re big and I’ve known them front to back since I was an apprentice.” She explained. Her nerves from being on the moors were gone now, but replaced by new nerves. She flicked his ear with her tail and then laid it gently back on his shoulder to signal that she was going to keep moving now. She took the fork to the left - it was shorter and would have them back on the moors quicker, if he got too overwhelmed and needed a quick escape. After a few steps she stopped again and turned to face him fully. Her eyes had adjusted like normal and she could make out his outline in the darkness. “Thanks for being open minded,” she said. “I had talk to Swiftstar before you found me all huffy about possibly mixing patrols, at least while the prey maulers are an issue. He asked if I’d be willing to set an example with some others - if he and Sagefoot decided to do that - and of course I am. Would you be willing to help with that?” She needed more support if she wanted to show Swiftstar - but mostly the whole clan - that it was important to come together right now. She knew Vixenfrost would do it, for her, as her brother. Valleyfern had seemed open to it, but she wasn’t sure if he was being nice or really did agree. She needed some others that she could really trust. And Larkbounce was here, in a tunnel with a tunneler, having a decent time (she hoped) - she felt like she could trust his support.

( 💗Hollyleaf💗) Larkbounce nodded along to her words, although he wasn't sure she could see him or not. Slowly his eyes were adjusting, slowly. He could see the outline of Tigersong now, but nothing much else. Her question caught him off guard slightly, although he recovered. He had known she had gone to Swiftstar, and the response hadn't quite pleased her. That had been evident from her posture when he first approached her, although the tunnels and the stroll seemed to have calmed her down slightly, like he had hoped. And how his curiously was being satisfied, for he knew what they had been talking about inside the den. "Of course. If it's for Windclan's safety, then of course. Anything to keep us safe from the threat of the prey-maulers. And if it helps the divide between moor-runners and tunnelers, well then that's a bonus." Of Larkbounce could help, he would. He knew that not every cat would agree to this, that some would even be outraged at the idea. But it was for their own future, for their safety. For knowledge. And who could argue with that?

"I know some of our clanmate won't agree, but I'm willing to take the heat." she let out a small laugh. "They have to decide if they're willing to take it from me, I'm quite sharp-tongued when I need to be." She knew that about herself, she was just like their father before he had passed. He had always been outspoken and adamant about the clan getting along all together, ignoring position and simply being a clan as one. He was the reason she felt so passionately about it. He had been a tunneler, like herself, and had fallen in love with their mother - a moor-runner. It was funny, really. She had followed in his footsteps while Vixenfrost had followed in their mother's. Like it was fate, laid out for them from birth. "you're really great, Larkbounce. I appreciate you taking time out of your own day to help a grumpy tunneler." she laughed again.

Sagefoot nodded, "I'll keep the younger cats away from there for patrols, but we should warn mentors as well. Perhaps the tunnelers should make some kind of mark near the tunnel entrances near that border. Some of them are well hidden." She sighed, "Will moor runners even enter the tunnels though? Or would they rather face the prey-maulers?" Swiftstar nodded. "I think I need to make an announcement to the clan, both to tell them about the prey-maulers potential location and to announce that we will be mixing the patrols. I'm not sure if all moor runners will be willing to enter the tunnels, but we need to give them the chance to try. I want to go with a patrol out to mark the tunnel entrances - I think a tunneler should lead it, but I need to be willing to set an example." Rabbitkit looked at his mother. "What does it look like when you're up in a tree?" he asked, a puzzled look on his face. "I agree, we need to unify the clan as much as possible. Do you want to lead the patrol together? Or do you think it's dangerous to have both of us out of camp at the same time?" Sagefoot's tail flicked nervously as she looked at the leader. "I know you don't have many lives left now." "Think of what it looks like when you get on your father's back then imagine you're up way higher! You can see almost all of the moor and everything on the ground looks smaller. Climbing trees can save you from dangerous things like badgers or foxes if they're chasing you. Neither of them are good at climbing." Fallowmeadow instructed, hoping her kits would never need to use the teaching.

Wheatkit imagined it, finding the thought quite funny. After all, wouldn't a cat the size of an ant be silly? He gave a rare, small smile at the thought. "Father should come too. And our big siblings as well." It would be hard to find a tree big enough to hold them, but Wheatkit was happy to be the one to look.

Fireblaze stiffened and she forced herself to keep from looking desperately around her pelt to look for any wound that Cobblepaw might be able to see. Instead, she narrowed her eyes at the tom. "I'm fine. Just need to loosen up a bit on the moor." Without another word she turned and stalked towards the camp entrance, a mixture of fear that her secret would be discovered and irritation at the apprentice clouding her vision. Maybe she should go find Palegaze.
Swiftstar side-eyed his deputy. "You don't have to remind me." He said with a small chuckle to hide his nervousness about the subject. What would happen to WindClan if he died in the middle of all of this disfunction? What would happen to his kits? The thought of Fallowmeadow raising their newest litter alone gripped his chest like a set of badger claws and he let out a wheezing cough to try to ease the tightness. "I think we should both go." He said after a moment. "Having our highest ranking moor runner and tunneler together will be a message worth sending I think."
Rabbitkit nodded as Wheatkit spoke. "Yeah! We could be a tree climbing family!" he agreed.

Cobblepaw watched Fireblaze go with a conflicted look. As much as he knew he should feel cowed by her hostility, she was still his Clanmate, and she seemed more irritable by something other than just him. He glanced around, hoping his mother hadn’t heard the conversation. He didn’t want her to feel like she had to protect him. He lifted his muzzle, reminding himself that Swiftstar had thanked him for his report, and that he would do just fine on the moors! He sought out Crowfrost, determined to prove how wrong they were in thinking he couldn’t learn to run on the moors too.

She turned and laid her tail on his shoulder again and led the way out of the tunnel. It wasn’t that far, one of the reasons she had chosen that particular path in the first place - and before long they were back on the open moors. The wind ruffled her fur and she bristled a little to combat the chill. She glanced back at Larkbounce and motioned for him to lead the way to camp.

Once they did he saw Tigersong's motion, confidently taking the lead. He knew the moors like he knew his own tail, and so he knew their location almost immediately after they excited the tunnels. It wasn't long until they got back to camp, and Larkbounce made his way over to the fresh-kill pile, where he saw a nice rabbit, pretty good for leafbare looming down on them, and grabbed it, padding back over to Tigersong. "Where do you want to eat?" He asked, his voice muffled and disfigured through the prey he was holding.

I don't think Cobblepaw will take the hint even if you said it right to his face." She sighed lightly, shifting her paws with discomfort. Inwardly, it was an odd sense of incompetence in herself, because Cobblepaw... wasn't actually doing bad so far, and she didn't like to admit that he was surprisingly skilled for a cat who had only ever trained in Tunneling. She shook the thought away, hoping to spend time with the other she-cat. Fireblaze was a good friend, and she liked racing her on the moors.

Fireblaze's temper was still buzzing, but she forced herself to sit beside her friend and give her chest a few licks in an attempt to calm herself down. "It's just so frustrating," she complained "Why does he of all cats get to have the best of both worlds? You don't see any other moor-runner pretending to be a tunneler or a tunneler pretending to be a moor-runner. Every warrior who has wanted to have both, like Sunstep or Dashclaw...or even Blacktail...they all picked one."

"I guess it's just never been something anyone asked to do before. I wasn't even sure something like that could be allowed, but... here it is." She pouted, before she glanced once at Fireblaze. "What are we supposed to do if... you know. He's... actually good at it, by the end? What's that going to mean for Windclan? I don't want to do any Tunneling. They won't force us all to do both, will they?" She fretted suddenly, seeming to grimace at the thought.

( Dew ) Tigersong waited for him to pick the prey and then looked around. She glanced back at him. “Why don’t we go claim my nook again?” She suggested, leading the way back to the corner she had retreated too after her conversation with Swiftstar. She settled down, making sure to leave room for him next to her, her mouth watering at the thought of the rabbit now she had settled down. Larkbounce settled beside Tigersong, slowly settling down the rabbit. "Why don't you take the first bite?" He offered, sliding it to sit in front of her.

Palegaze was watching the interaction between Fireblaze and Cobblepaw from across the camp with thinly veiled interest, his wide ears swiveled toward the pair. He frowned at Fireblaze's obvious hostility, but felt proud of Cobblepaw for how he handled it all with grace. The tunneler turned his face away when Fireblaze stalked away, trying to act like he wasn't very obviously eavesdropping. Wheatkit nodded seriously. "We can see the whole world from a tree. We can see anything coming!" "You look distracted." Weaselstride mewed simply as she padded to Palegaze's side. Her eyes flicked over to Cobblepaw, before she looked at the older tom, having not seen Fireblaze and Cobblepaw's conversation. "Everything okay, Palegaze?" She asked him. "Oh, fine," Palegaze replied breezily. "Just enjoying the free entertainment. Fireblaze is doing her best impression of a badger who's sat on a thornbush. She'd great at it!" He chuckled. He wasn't normally one to laugh at another's expense, but when Fireblaze was being so hostile to her own Clanmate... He shrugged. "Never mind what I'm doing. How are you?" he asked Weaselstride, genuinely interested in the answer.

She opened her eyes and slid the rabbit back to him, her tail flicking happily behind her. “Good choice, that rabbit is excellent,” she purred.

I can't exactly see him going into the tunnels himself, and I think he'd have a riot on his hands if he forced us." In truth, she hadn't really considered being forced to do both tunneling and moor-running. It wasn't fair. She had worked so hard to fit in here in WindClan, and to reject her ShadowClan lineage, and now Swiftstar could just...change what being a WindClan warrior meant. "At least I hope he doesn't." She said a bit more quietly after a moment.

Tigersong considered that for a moment. How could she explain it in a way that he would understand? Their paths were so drastically different, she didn’t know if he would really get her reasons - just like she wouldn’t get his for being a runner. She sighed. “I feel safe underground. It’s…comforting having the earth around me.” She said, though she knew it probably wasn’t sensible.
