Violetpaw perked up at her mentor's suggestion, thankful that she had done well enough to recieve her mentor's approval. She was interested greatly in the prospect of learning a duo technique. Looking at Falconpaw, she purred. "That sounds perfect. I think I'm happier battling with Falconpaw more than I am against Falconpaw." "Ohhh, so he does have some fire in him then." Furyflame drawled, before she gave a toothy grin, amber eyes gleaming like embers. "I'll never let you hear the end of it if I run right past you, you know. So, be ready." She stretched her legs, her anger tossed to the side as she finally felt a hint of satisfaction. She wanted to beat him in running almost more than she wanted to find another blackbird to hunt. Falconpaw smiled. "I agree! The bucking you did really caught me off guard, that was a great idea!" She still felt the effects of crashing into the ground, even if they had done another round since then. "What duo technique were you thinking, Jasmineheart?" Falconpaw asked, turning to address Violetpaw's mentor. Dew "There's a technique for two apprentices called dizzy dance. It's very effective against larger cats that are slower than you. The idea is that you both continue to attack the opponent from different angles before running out of the way. It causes them to continue moving in circles and eventually get disoriented." Jasmineheart mewed calmly. "It can be sort of like a game if you do it right."

Swiftstar padded over to Sagefoot. "Do you have a moment?" He asked the deputy not too quietly, but enough that curious onlookers wouldn't overhear. "I'd like to talk with you about the prey-maulers, and a few other matters. Alone if possible."
A cheeky grin crossed Rabbitkit's face. "Maybe we could sneak all the way to the forest and find some more! I'm sure the other clans couldn't get upset over a few missing leaves?"

Sagefoot got to her paws with a nod, "Of course, Swiftstar. In your den? or out on the moor?"
Milkkit snatched up another fallen leaf, "Which clan has the most leaves you think? Thunderclan or Skyclan?"

"SkyClan by quantity, ThunderClan by variety," Wheatkit put in smartly, having been listening in the whole time.

Swiftstar jerked his head towards his den. "It's probably best for us to stay here." He said. "I don't want to risk being overheard or interrupted." If his conversation with Tigersong showed anything, it was that many of his clanmates would have an opinion one way or the other about prey-maulers and mixed patrols. He and Sagefoot needed to make a decision together. Alone.
Rabbitkit turned to Wheatkit. "What?? How many types of leafs are there?". He tried to picture the other clan territories with canopies of leaves of every variety out there but he couldn't. The vastness of the sky above Windclan was the only home he knew.
((God bless Rabbitkit he's not your sharpest tool in the shed))

Sagefoot followed the leader into the den with a hum. Once they were seated inside, she turned to face the leader with a look of concern. "I can tell you've got a lot on your mind. You're not one to usually ignore your kits tumbling around the camp."
Milkkit looked at Wheatkit in surprise, "How do you know that?"

Swiftstar smiled, a good-natured look in his eye. "As proud as I am to be WindClan's leader, I'm more proud to be their father." He sat across from Sagefoot and wrapped his tail around his paws.
"I wanted to talk to you about the prey-maulers, and a suggestion Tigersong brought to me. We don't know where the prey-maulers are based, but I don't want WindClan to be caught flat-footed in the event they find us before we find them. We need to come up with a plan, above and below ground, to keep them as far from the camp as possible." He paused for a moment to let out a low cough - and to give him a moment to think through his next words.
"Before we discuss specific strategy, however, I want your opinion on creating mixed patrols of moor-runners and tunnelers. If a patrol of moor runners gets chased by prey maulers, they might get out-paced. If there were tunnelers in the mix, they might be able to escape through the tunnels. And the same goes for our tunnelers. I know several of our warriors know our territory like the back of their paws underground but could get lost in the event they get surprised out on the moor." He paused, wanting to hear his deputy's genuine opinion before stating his own.

Sagefoot nodded, "I think that could be a good idea, but some older tunnelers might not feel comfortable on the moor. I spend enough time above ground for my duties and my kits that my eyesight hasn't changed much, but cats who spend more time underground start to lose their vision after a while. I've learned this the hard way. In this case, younger tunnelers would be the better option."

Swiftstar nodded. "I suspect several of our clanmates will have very strong opinions about this one way or the other. Before I came to get you, Tigersong came to talk to me about the mixed patrols - it was her idea." He gave a small smile as he recalled the conversation. "I get the impression she'll claw my ears off if we don't do what she wants, but her heart is in the right place." He paused for a moment and then sighed.
"Truthfully, I wonder if mixing the patrols will do more harm to the clan than good. I know some, if not many, tunnelers feel less-than. I don't want this to come across as a rabbit-brained moor runner forcing tunnelers to go places they don't want to be. In any case, I don't think it would be wise to mandate any cat go on mixed patrols if they don't want to be, but I do think having a working knowledge of both the tunnels and the moor can be beneficial to every cat."

Sagefoot sighed, "I can't think of any other way to keep everyone safe. I think when it's announced it just needs to be said that you and I both agreed on this together and the tunnelers are part of the patrol to help keep their other clanmates safe. They are essential to avoiding the prey-maulers if they cross our borders."

Swiftstar nodded, pleased that he and his deputy were on the same page. "Let's talk general strategy then, if we're agreed. How can we best utilize these mixed patrols?" He was happy to let Sagefoot take the lead on suggestions, wanting to see what his deputy had in mind.

Wheatkit blinked at Rabbitkit. "I don't know how many. I just know there's lots," he said. He blinked at Milkkit, next. "I listen a lot. Warriors talk about the different trees in the other Clans sometimes. And cats have names like trees, like Hickory and Birch and Hazel and Alder. So there has to be a lot of leaves." Wheatkit's logic was sound to him.

Larkbounce nodded to both Valleyfern and Vixenfrost as they left camp, before speeding up to match Tigersong's pace. "That's good." He said, before they fell into silence. He liked the moors, the openness of them felt so... inviting to him. He could see everything he needed, scent everything they needed. The other clans thought they were weak because they had less prey, but Larkbounce thought they were strong. A strong clan, when we're united. "Did you have anywhere in mind you wanted to go?" Though Tigersong was relieved to be out of camp and more confident with another warrior with her, a moor-runner who was far more familiar with the open moors than she was, the anxiety was starting to creep in already. Her paws prickled every few steps and she kept glancing around her, nervous. It felt wrong being out in the open. She felt bare and she longed for the security of the tunnels. However, she had promised Larkbounce she wouldn't make him go in the tunnels. She started at his voice and then ruffled her fur, embarrassed for being so easily startled. "Maybe Outlook Rock," she suggested. "I know it's pretty close to the border, but I do enjoy going there sometimes, when I'm feeling brave." she joked. Larkbounce noted the way Tigersong was looking around, the way her posture changed slightly. "And you're feeling brave right now?" It wasn't a jab, and he had already started on to Outlook Rock. "Like I said before, I wouldn't mind going into the tunnels."

"Like I said before, I wouldn't mind going into the tunnels." Tigersong narrowed her eyes and tried to decide if he was mocking her or not, but when she glanced over, he looked like he was genuinely making sure she was okay. She would rather prefer to be in a tunnel, and if he was offering, maybe she should just agree and take him on a promptu scouting mission. She hesitated, her tail dropping slightly. "I was feeling brave but your insistence is filing away at my courage," she said, keeping her tone light. "but perhaps we can make a quick pass by the outlook, and if you're still feeling up to it, we can go into the tunnels." she said, trying her best to make a good compromise. "But, again, I won't force you in there." she added quickly. Her conversation with Swiftstar had made her hyper aware of the things she said, not eager to offend another clanmate today - and especially not Larkbounce when he was being so kind.

Wheatkit's logic was sound to him. Rabbitkit blinked. He believed his brother, but still couldn't wrap his head around there being so many trees. "But some trees don't have leaves.....right?" He remembered stories his mother had told about ShadowClan, and the spiked trees that covered their territory. How leaves could be spikey he didn't know, but it sounded painful.

Humming, Wheatkit looked up at Fallowmeadow. "What are the pine leaves called, mother?"

"They're called pine needles." Fallowmeadow replied, amusement clear in her voice as she looked between the kits. "I didn't know we were having a territory lesson, but I suppose it's never too early to learn about the other clans."
Sagefoot's tail thumped on the ground idly as she thought for a moment, "I don't think they need to be on every patrol. If they're not straying too far from camp, they can probably just be moor-runners. But if it's a border patrol, especially on our territory flanked by the twolegplace and moonstone, they should probably have tunnelers join in. The prey-maulers are much more likely to come into our territory from that side."

Rabbitkit bounced over, his tail wagging excitedly. "Have you been to the other clans? What are they like?"
Swiftstar nodded in agreement. "I think that's a wise idea. On another note related to our borders, I want to intentionally weaken some of the tunnels that we don't use as often - as long as it can be done safely. If a pack of prey-maulers comes wandering into our territory there's a good chance they could fall in. We should also try to keep scent markers as far away from camp as possible." He glanced out through the den entrance where the clan was going about its day. "I don't know if everycat will be happy about this change Sagefoot, but we need to lead by example as well. I'd like to be included in border patrol rotations for the next moon or so."

Feeling much more energized by his mother’s belief in him, Cobblepaw padded right towards the leader’s den. He did his best to ignore Rockdust’s pointed look away from him, and the way a few of the Moor-Runners quieted their chatter as he padded past. He had far more important things to report, and he needed Swiftstar to know. He paused as he approached the den, scenting Swiftstar and Sagefoot both.
Oh. Well. Cobblepaw shuffled his paws, now hesitant. He didn’t want to interrupt an important meeting.

"They haven't been happy about a lot of things the last few moons, but we're doing our best. If both of us agree that this is the best way to keep our clan safe, they'll have to trust us." Sagefoot replied. "I'll have the senior tunnelers scout out some tunnels that we haven't used recently, odds are there are already some structural problems with them. I will come up with a way to mark them with the senior tunnelers so others don't accidentally get caught in a cave-in. We've lost too many cats to them recently."

Fallowmeadow pulled the kits close to her, "I've been to a couple of other clans territories and camps but it was never for very long. When I was very young though, I did live with Shadowclan and Skyclan warriors at the moonstone camp. It was an exciting experience. Your father was only an apprentice then!"

((rip indeed lol))
Swiftstar nodded, and opened his mouth to respond again when he scented Cobblepaw's scent wafting in from outside his den. So much for not being interrupted he thought amusedly. Not wanting this meeting to be overheard, he called out to the apprentice. "Come in Cobblepaw." It was only after he called out that he scented the nervousness from the apprentice and realized the seriousness of the incoming conversation.

Fallowmeadow shook her head, "No, the camp was quite peaceful. We all had a common enemy to fight so in those moons we may have all been one clan. My mother was not originally from Windclan and when I was young she taught me to climb trees. I taught your father how to climb them in that camp. Perhaps one day I'll get a chance to show you too."

Cobblepaw stiffened as he heard Swiftstar’s call to come in. Dipping his head awkwardly yet respectfully, he quickly made his way into the den. “Er… I’m sorry, if I’m interrupting. But… I needed to report something I believed I saw on the training session I went on with Doebush and Cricketpaw.” The tom, while still holding a “paw” in his name, stood equal in height with the leader and deputy. He didn’t mind though, seeing as this would be the case for many more moons as he trained in Moor-Running.

Swiftstar nodded to the apprentice to go on. His tone was enough to indicate that he wasn’t merely here to report on a training session.
Rabbitkit stuck out his tongue. “That still sounds gross. I’m glad we get to stay here, with you!”

"Oh, I'll make sure they know after how they treated you. I'm confident that you don't need me for that to happen, though." Slushfur lashed her tail in anger at how her son was treated for making his own decisions. "If things get so dire that Blacktail starts getting looks, that's when we know the WindClan we love is no longer the same." Cobblepaw seemed to digest his mother’s words, looking at her for a long moment. He really was the luckiest cat in the Clan, to have parents who never once pressured him to choose. If anything, it was their openness to accept that made him stronger, kinder, more open to trying new things. The mottled tom gave a knowing look, voice soft as he mewed. “Ma? If… anything does happen to me. If anyone says anything, or tries anything. I don’t want you getting caught in the middle. Even if all of the Clan hated me, I would still give my all to keep everyone safe. I want to get them to see that it doesn’t have to be one way or the other. But to do that, I can’t let the hard parts bring me down, right?” He lifted his chin, bold and determined. “So. I won’t let it.” He smiled then. “You’re the best mother I could have ever asked for.” Slushfur rested her head on Cobblepaw's shoulders, eyes wet with appreciation for his words. "All I want is the best for my kits. Before I met Blacktail, I didn't even think this could be my legacy in WindClan... but I regret none of it. Got it?" She stood back and waved her tail. "So, don't worry about me. Just be you." She watched him go to Swiftstar's den with pride.
