Incredibly annoying in the first two books, grew on me in the third and I hope it stays that way!

He’s kind of a dope.
Some people find that endearing, but I am not one of them.

Strong dislike in the first two books, but he massively improved in book three. I hope he continues this way.

I love him. He is my favorite edgy little shit <3
And I honestly feel his feelings were very valid.

I like Nightheart and I'm glad that his story seems to be going into the direction I've wanted it to go. Which is him and his family finally properly communicating with each other as well as Nightheart staying true to himself and also wanting to make a name for himself in his own right.

He definitely improved in Shadow, but I don't think I like him still. I think people make really interesting character analysis posts about him. Other than that, I dislike the massive character butchering that some of the characters went through just to support his development. Like Finchlight, one second was supportive of her brother's decision to change his name, then boom, next book she hates the decision. I guess that's just what happens when a book written by Cherith is immediately followed by a book written by Kate... Random tangent, but does anyone else notice the weird change in characters in Kate's books? Like, Cherith and other authors write them pretty consistent, but when it gets to a Kate book the characters kind of... switch up. Like she wrote the embodiments of mischaracterization that are Sky and Squirrelflight's Hope.

Nightheart is my third favorite character. I just love him and his development and insecurities.

Like a lot. He's ann edgy guy who complains all the time trying to figure himself out. He is the embodiment of a teenager and I wish we had more characters like him. It's always been a little odd that the majority of characters in Warriors are just automatically super mature upon warriorhood, despite still being so young. It's nice to see a cat who isn't just automatically 'perfect' for the Clan, and I hope we get more characters like him honestly, though perhaps not as harsh.

As saint said, Kate's butchering of previously established characterization by the other writer(s) (mostly Cherith) and obvious bias against/for certain characters has been discussed by the fandom for some time now and is still a topic of debate. I've made a few threads about some of the things she has stated about cats she dislikes (among those cats are Bramblestar and Squirrelflight btw) over the years. Here's a thread I made last year in regards to one of Kate's more infamous BlogClan replies (found it on tumblr): wcrpforums.com/thread/87440/kate-hates-bramblesquirrel-abuse-mentionedAs well as a thread about the inconsistent characterization in the newest arc from last year (when Sky came out): wcrpforums.com/thread/90281/inconsistent-characterization-newest-arcAnd more recently, I made this meme in regards to a WG thread about Squirrelflight's Hope (can't find it right now though): Still think this is accurate lol...and am quite worried about how some of the characters might get (mis)presented once again when Thunder comes out later this year (written by Kate).

I love him and he's my favorite ASC protag, but NOT in a "wow this character's arc is so well-written and compelling and it really resonates with me" kind of way. I like him in a "this man is very entertaining to read about" sort of way.
He's an emotional character and I usually love emotional characters, so I enjoy reading his POV. I wanted so, SO much to feel legit invested in his problems, but I just can't. The way his conflicts have been written just hasn't stuck to me at all. It makes me sad, because before the arc was released, I was really looking forward to reading about Nightheart's struggles with his kin and Firestar's legacy. I was so excited to be reading the POV of a Firekin protag who might actually resent being related to Firestar. On paper it sounded like something I would've really gotten into and related to, but in the actual books it just falls flat for me.

Liked him from the start, it's satisfying to look at his development as a whole, which I'm glad I decided to wait out for. It feels like he went in the direction I hoped for him to, which is pretty great. I think the real issue is if he maintains that character development or not, and if it's ripped away from him by the next book because of the change of writers and editors.
