Due to how changed the characterization of Finchlight was between the end of
River and the beginning of
Sky, I wanted to make a thread about the possibility of this occuring more during ASC in future books. Character motivations and even personalities have shifted before in the past of this series, either to fit the plot/play into a narrative or because authors have seperate and different takes on how certain cats act/behave which then change back and forth depending on who is writing which book.
For anyone who does not know what I'm talking about in regards to Finchlight's abrupt change of heart seemingly in betweeen books, she is shown to be mostly supportive of her brother Flamepaw during
River and even defends him when he wants to change his name at his warrior ceremony in Chapter 22 but then seems to have a complete turn around one book later in
Sky at the start which takes place only a few days after her brother got his warrior name of Nightheart.
The change of attitude in Finchlight can be quickly re-read in the Sky excerpt's second chapter:
warriorcats.com/content/article/exclusive-sky-excerpt Although it does get mentiond there specifically in a parapgraph (while Nightheart is on his way to the medicine den) that Finchlight was growing tired of the tension between her mother and her brother due to the latter's name change, her going from being on his side in that regard initially to suddenly insulting him just seems off:
And yes, I know that this is the only scene of her acting like this in that book but still.
Either way, I'm really wondering if the issue of inconsistent characterization will be further showcased with other characters in this new arc, besides Finchlight.
