So I'm planning on putting together a history of the Forums, so I need everyone to pitch in and describe
big events they think I should include. Some people who have been members for several years are especially welcome, because I've only been on one or two years.
I will NOT write this text-book style, just so you know. This will be a fun recounting of memories for all of us. Everyone will pitch in with suggestions. This will be mostly written by the Forumers, so give me your opinion and description of events and use your best grammar and writing. Use full words, no abbreviations. Try and tell me when in the timeline of the Forums the event happened, like before or after some other event, or a general date.

Waaay waaay back in the day, sometime in late 2011 or early 2012, when the first forum apocolypse happened, and literally no one could respond to threads for over an hour so people literally flooded otd and fanclans with shout outs to each other and someone would respond with anothet shout out post
It was hilarious

The OotS weddings, where people would choose characters from the books as mates and "marry" them.
There was this "Midnight Party" thing once that was pretty huge iirc, but I'm probably the only one who remembers it.
Edit: There was so much more that happened, but I've forgotten nearly everything.

It wasn't that long ago, but the Pingupocalypse was when everyone started posting Pingu, Pingu quotes, Pingu images, Pingu OCs and Pingu Ascii Art. This is the time when Bluerain achieved the status of 'Pingu'.
I'm pretty sure I started it, too, because 5 mins after I referenced the episode where Pingu peed himself suddenly everyone is posting Pingu too?

Also, there was the Umadpelt Uprising. OOTS-local, but warranted its own TV Tropes page. FINALLY SOMEONE REMEMBERS HAI. Ahem. Yeah, I remember the whole thing. I wasn't online, but basically she posted these threads with really nasty, derogatory comments about this one member, and made claims that they'd seen them nude and had pics to prove it. She started a bunch of flame wars and actually drove that one member to quit the forums for (I think) forever. Right before she was banned she promised to come back, so for the next few days everyone was coming up with plans for what to do if she returned. Basically the agreement was that everyone would spam every thread with a certain word, and then everyone would leave the forums for several hours. Good times, good times. |

I don't have much to contribute, as I was never involved with many board events, but I just want to offer my wholehearted support (and a bump) for this effort. I've often said that I consider myself an amateur internet sociologist, so the chance to learn about the WCF's history is one I eagerly embrace. I hope this little project is successful!

I remember Hai. completely forgot about him until now but jeez. not sure if I'm completely remembering it right or not though, someone else would have to give information for me to be any help lol. I have a post above explaining it. just saw that and went to delete my post but couldn't figure out how lmao. completely remember all of that though now. dang, brings back lots of memories |

When the forums first began, it started off with snail mail - each and every post had to be approved by the moderators before actually being added to a thread. This made chatting almost impossible.
You could start out with that, and then go through different events chronologically. Like the forum apocalypse and the "I survived the Forumpocalypse/Forum apocalypse survivor!" signature fad.

JanaM and Joe S, the mods ("stop fighting or heads will roll"), the time someone allegedly hacked the Erin Hunter account, MegaBoneClan/MegaSkullClan and the entire kit stealing/hugging/steaking epidemic, that time someone got banned because another user told the mods they were dead (they weren't),

I miss MBC. They were cool.
EDIT: For clarification for younger users, MegaBoneClan was a kit stealing clan (a very, very successful one). Think Brambleclan, The Sisterhood, etc. I can't remember exactly why, but the clan got banned from the forums, no one was allowed to remake any kind of MegaBoneClan.
They made an offsite forum for themselves, not sure if it's up and running anymore!

If you try to look at his most recent posts, it's him saying "that will not happen" to someone wanting the old forums back lmao I in MBC around the time they were forever banned from the forum. The thread for MBC initally got deleted several times, some reasons being "describing mating," "personal talk" and someone mentioning they were bi. Eventually the mods got tired of them, I think, so they made a site for themselves and the thread got deleted because someone posted an outside link. |
