Tribe of Lunar Cove
IntroductionYou knew they were around somewhere. The freakish cats with fish traits. Thinking it an old nursery tale, you scoffed when your friends dared you to spend a night in their precious cove. Supposedly, they were quite protective of it. And even if they were real, surely they'd be.. well, fish out of water on land, right? Your pelt prickled nervously as the last light of the sun faded. Under the moonlight, the water looked eerily peaceful and strangely larger. Thankfully, the sand was still warm and you settled down for a long night. Confident they were just legends, you closed your eyes.
A rough touch on your neck jolted you awake and you felt yourself slowly being dragged. Scrambling to find footing, there wasn't any as the soft material underneath slipped through your claws. "A-ah! Somebody, help!" "Hmph. Thought you could lie on our territory, did you? And not face consequences?" Twisting around, you struggled to see who the speaker was. But the one holding you held fast and it limited your line of sight. "You've got some guts to beg for mercy now. You'll face the judgement of the sea." Judgement of the sea? Your eyes widened as you felt the cool water on your back. "N-no. Wait!" Before you could go any further, you were sucked in. Resisting the urge to inhale the ocean, you continued to struggle. After a moment, the pressure on your neck released and you blindly paddled upwards. By the time you broke the surface, your lungs were burning. Gulping air, you circled in place and blinked through the water dripping down your fur. Located in the middle of the cove, the fish cats surrounded you. "Hm. This one's got potential." One of them murmured, eyes half closed. "Hah. They barely made it!" You recognized the voice of the one who'd spoken earlier. "They passed the test. It doesn't matter how close they cut it." Another voice intercepted, this one sounded feminine. "If you'd like to join our tribe, follow us. If not," she nodded towards the shore, "you can live. For now. But if we catch you here again, there will be no second trial." With that, she sank below the surface and disappeared. The others soon follow.
What will you do?
About the Tribe
Cats: These cats have webbed paws and long, thick tails ending in a fin. They're muscular and are well known for their lung capacity. Their pelts can come in a variety including scales, short fur, or smooth skin. Cats born to the tribe have an outer film over their eyes that enables them to see underwater. Communication is done through the use of body language. This makes coordination and teamwork extra important while hunting because complex commands can't be given. Creator's note: these cats are inspired by the Pokemon "Vaporeon". So, four paws and a tail. But details outside of that is player's choice! So have a bit of fun with things like head shape and appendages, fins, etc. Any color of fish/aquatic creature will fly in this RP :3
Territory: The tribe claims the Lunar Cove as part of its territory as well as a bit of the forest that surrounds it for medicinal purposes, but most of their hunting grounds is underwater. Places of Note Include-
Coral Reef: a good place for hunting, but stay vigilant for predators. The open water means there's nothing for them to maneuver around so they can come out of nowhere
Ship graveyard: acts as a training ground for apprentices to practice close combat. with all wreckage everywhere, it's a good place to hone one's awareness. obstacle course exercises are also held once a moon
Whitewater Current: the current that carries the turtles to the cove every year. take care not to be swept away in it. learning to get out of it safely is one of the first things apprentices must master.
Cave of Reflection: located at the bottom of an underwater waterfall, a cat must ride the current all the way down to reach the entrance of the cave. inside, the stone walls are shiny enough and seem to resemble the night sky above. here, the tribe meets with their ancestors.
Lover's Lookout: a bluff overlooking the cove, it's a popular spot for dates due to its secluded location. with the forest at their backs and the cove sparkling below, it's a traditional place to confess one's feelings. Camp: The tribe makes its home in an underwater cave system. While the entrance isn't terribly deep, it is easily watched and, thus, easily guarded. Despite being underwater, it's cozy. With eons of blocking dripping water and clearing debris, it's quiet and calming. It is, however, dark. Lit only by bioluminescence, dens are indicated by claw marks in the stone just before the entrance. Den Marks-
Leader: star Medicine Den: / crossed by three - (similar to a leaf vein pattern) Warriors: 5 claw horizontal slash Apprentices: diamond Nursery: shell pattern Elders: X In the center of the cave is a common space where the leader will hold meetings from a ledge. It's also where cats will share tongues and dream when an apprentice leaves in an effort for their full name.
Traditions (open to ideas):
+the tribe has always had a close relationship with the turtles who return to Lunar Cove. they wait for them and watch over them when the eggs hatch. it's considered the highest honor to be one of the ones to guard them as they make their way to the ocean. however, even they know better than to interfere with a hatchling's journey. thus, it's mostly birds and the like they fend off.
+superstition states that; after cats officially become mates, they must find a pearl together within 24 hrs or their relationship will be considered doomed for failure
+in order to be recognized as a full warrior/medicine cat, an apprentice must make a journey to the Cave of Reflections. a cat's apprenticeship is not ended by the leader or their mentor. instead, the apprentice must believe themselves ready.
if they are, they will request the leader's blessing (however, even if they don't get it they are still allowed to make the trip) in addition to a family member's (a mentor may step in if a cat has no living relatives and/or if the cat came from the land).
on the night selected, the leader, the family member who gave them a blessing, their mentor, and the medicine cat will sleep in the common space and witness the ceremony in their dreams. if successful, (s)he will be given either a shark tooth (warrior) or a piece of a turtle shell (med). if unsuccessful, the apprentice may not try again for another 2 moons.
a cat's success is marked by three lines on both sides of their neck (similar to that of gill marks). this symbolizes they've received their ancestor's blessing on whatever journey they've chosen to take.
on a cat born on land, this gives said cat some of the benefits of the tribe such as increased breath capacity and the ability to open their eyes underwater without harm.
+song is also important to the tribe and it's tradition that every litter of kits be given a lullaby by their parent(s).
Joining
Cat's Name || Age in Moons || Rank || username Description Pic (if you have one)
+Description includes everything from appearance to personality to background/family and everything in between. In addition, don't sweat it if you can't find a pic. Given the creativity of these cats, it'll be tough to find exactly what you want. It's mostly meant to be used as a reference.
+The number of medicine cats I am allowing will depend entirely on the size of the tribe. As of right now, that number is 2 (1 full and 1 apprentice)
+You cannot join as a queen or with a motherless kit.
+In 'Rank', if you're making an ancestor, please include your alignment (light or dark).
Roleplay Information
News:
3/18: Tribe is made 4/18: A training group consisting of Thunder, Swoop, Glow, Splash, and Star encountered a shark by the reefs. They managed to drive it off while taking minimal damage, but the reefs are off limits until they've been checked thoroughly. Plots:
Coming Soon Prey:
Common- Small-medium sized ocean fish Shellfish
Uncommon- Seabirds Land prey Larger ocean fish
Rare- Crustaceans (while as edible to the tribe as shellfish, these creatures are considered less desirable due to having their own sharp claws to work around) Predators:
Common- Sharks Eels
Uncommon- Jellyfish (while not 'predatory', they should still be cautioned of) Sea snakes (around the coral reef)
Rare- Octopus
Roleplay Rules- All forum rules apply.
- Outside of their makeup, this is a realistic roleplay. No spotlighting, godmodding, powerplaying, or Mary Sues either. Your cats aren't perfect, they don't catch every prey they go for, or leave all battles unscathed. Not all cats survive big events. These events could be an attack, an illness, or anything that's planned and where cats could die. Please only make as many cats as you can handle and do your best to keep genders even.
- All orientations and identities of characters are accepted and welcomed.
- Please keep OOC chatter to a minimum and within ()[]{}.
- When a new day starts, you are still able to finish up patrols or whatever from the previous day. All the frozen cats will be freed up once the morning begins.
- If you are going to quit or be busy, then just let me know. I won't be offended.

High Ranking Cats
Leader: Dusk after Sinking Sun || 75 Moons || leader || thenovice Dusk is a large, dark blue scaled tom with red frills down his back and scales along the end of his tail. He has two barbels that also redden at the end. His eyes are a dark yellow. As leader, he is calm and efficient. He values intelligence and encourages his warriors to push the boundaries of what they believe possible and get creative. While his opinion is a difficult one to change, he never wants his tribemates to be afraid to speak their mind to him and so he rarely ever raises his voice during an argument. Having become used to needing to speak to be heard, his 'inside' voice isn't all that quiet and this can startle others whenever he accidentally sneaks up on them. His bulk means he's not fast in the water, but his scales are tough and he hits hard. With a powerful swish of his tail, he can burst forward a short distance.
Deputy: Star That Shines At Night || 40 moons || Deputy || blizzardsfang
Star is a sleek light blue cat with scales covering most of her body. She has white fur on her chest and stomach that wraps around her shoulders and the back of her neck. She has horns that trail down the middle of her head and stop where her fur starts. Star has a shorter face with ice blue eyes that reflect against light very vividly. Star is extremely fierce and is quick to a sharp tongue to those who make impulsive decisions. She is extremely loyal to her tribe but she also shows respect for outsiders who choose their way of life after passing the Judgement of the Ocean. She enjoys watching the apprentices grow and has pride in the young cats of her tribe. Star was born in the tribe and as soon as she was an apprentice she was quick to learn, she took her judgement early with approval of her leader and she became a warrior sooner than the average apprentice. Despite that she finds overconfident cats to be unintelligent and she values a sharp mind over sharp claws. Medicine Cat: Wind that Disturbs Branch || 38 Moons || Medicine Cat || Moonclaw400
Wind is a rather small molly with pale blue scales and pink fins. She was born with a rather small tail fin, making it difficult to leave the main camp area. She is a rather polite cat, trying her best to make others comfortable. Despite her size, she can and will keep stubborn warriors from leaving her den too early. She likes to decorate her den and body with shells she comes across. She was born in the tribe along with her littermate Sand. Open to other relations.
Medicine Cat Apprentice:
Little Flower Beneath Large Tree || 7 Moons || Medicine Cat's apprentice || ashcloud A brightly colored cat of vibrant hues of blue and purple, her muzzle is white and her ears are purple. The sky facing side of her tail is covered in purple fur extending from her back, while the underside has green scales that extend under her belly. Flower has this white fur around her neck and a distinct tail fin reminiscent of a flower, a green patch of scales growns on her forehead. A soft-hearted but clever she-cat, Flower is a diligent Apprentice who is passionate about becoming the next Medicine Cat. Although she can be a bit scattered at times, she means well and is quick to apologize for her mistakes and make amends. As a result, however, she is a bit of a push over and can rather easily be bossed around by those she cares for.
Warriors
Whispers in the Dark || 15 Moons || warrior || thenovice
Whisper is a black she-cat with flecks of blue in her scales. Protruding from the top of her head are two white horns that match the shade of her underbelly. Her eyes are an emerald green. Being soft spoken, Whisper tends to fade into the background of other's minds. However, this means she sees a lot more than she reveals and is often a source of comfort for newcomers to the tribe. Now that she's a warrior, she can't wait to have an apprentice of her own. Thunder of Coming Storm || 80 moons || Warrior || blizzardsfang
Thunder is a white tom with sleek fur, he has red fins on his cheeks, shoulders, elbows, along his spine, and behind his knees. He has four horns on his head, two very large and two smaller in front of them. He also has a horn coming out of his chin. Thunder has bright yellow eyes and he is extremely agile in the water due to his surplus of fins. Thunder is stern and takes everything he does very seriously. Very rarely do cats see him smiling or making jokes, he takes pride in his ability to care for his tribe. He has seen many moons with the tribe and knows that when there is peace one should never relax. He is hostile to cats who forget that the ocean is not only their home, but also their graveyard. Although Thunder can be serious and he intimidates many of the younger cats, he loves mentoring as it makes him feel purposeful in teaching the young cats the way of the tribe. He still yearns for his own family but he is content with his place in the tribe. Sand that Flows in Water || 38 Moons || Warrior || Moonclaw400
Sand is a small tom with dark blue scales and fins. He has some patches of white fur and long golden whiskers. Despite his size, Sand does his best to defend the tribe with all his strength. He is a rather loud camp, choosing to speak up whenever he thinks he needs to. He was born in the clan with his littermate Wind. Open to other relations. Glow Of Setting Sun || 24 Moons || Warrior || ashcloud
A black tom with vivid golden scales along his back and tail, as well as ginger tabby ticks over his shoulders, paws, and head; hits tail and back fins also bear a similar pattern. He has a large Appendage growing from his forehead that hands over with a bioluminescent bulb on the end, similar protrusions are on his cheeks as whiskers. Glow has vibrant gold eyes matching his scales. Glow is a rather quiet tom who enjoys being on his own for the most part and tends to keep himself busy, but is a fairly even-tempered and balanced cat. He is incredibly loyal to the tribe and tends to be unfriendly towards outsiders, his desire to protect the clan extending to even inside their camp. Wave that Climbs Shore || 60 moons || Warrior || blizzardsfang
Wave is a pretty brown cat with black stripes all along her body. She has one blue eye and one pink eye, with white on her mouth and underbelly. She was born on the land and so she has no fish like characteristics. When Wave was young her siblings convinced her to go explore the stories of the sea cats. She had been the runt of her litter and the thought of them had terrified her and consumed her all at once. Despite their age, they were dragged into the depths just the same. Her siblings perished, drowning one by one. Wave managed to make it out of the water, and she was offered a place in the tribe. She was terrified and lost, but the thought of returning to her family without her siblings seemed far worse, so she accepted and joined the tribe, taking on a new name. Wave is a cat that is unbothered by others, she often times spaces out and it is hard to get her attention. She had to work much harder to find her place, keeping up with cats that were born to the ocean was no small feat and it had been an enormous task. She managed to become a warrior just the same. She gets horrifying nightmares of her siblings falling into the depths of the ocean, and sometimes she can't be consoled as she shakes violently and hides away. Other than her shortcomings, she has worked hard to secure her place in the tribe and has become a valuable member. Flicker of Dying Fire || 48 moons || Warrior || blizzardsfang
Fire is a sleek black and red tom with orange eyes that dance like fire. He has long red barbels coming from his cheeks as well as a large fin on his back. He has very large muscles and because of this has become not only a strong fighter on land, he is just as fierce in the water. Fire is a cruel cat that demands perfection. He thinks weakness doesn't belong in the tribe and can be extremely ferocious to cats that he deems unworthy. He hates weak apprentices and thinks they should be training sooner, but most cats think he is harmless outside of his belief in strength. Fire had always been a strong tom, being an apprentice he had easily made friends with the cats that caught on quickly, and bullied those who fell behind. Despite all of this, he does hold respect for Dusk, knowing the leader can be fierce, he also respects the strength the large tom holds. Moon that Sits Over the Lake || 15 moons || Warrior || rattlefang11
Moon is a silver tom with sleek fur and a gradient of black and silver scales running along his back and tail. He has midnight purple fins located behind his knees and on his elbows, and a powerful tail to help control himself in the water. He has blue eyes flecked with silver. Moon is a warm-hearted and easy-going cat, trying his best to be friendly to his tribemates. His care for his clanmates can cause him large amounts of worry and he can be very protective at times, but he means well. He is littermates with Whisper, whose comforting nature tends to calm him.
Coming Soon
Apprentices
Swooping Gannet || 6 Moons || apprentice || thenovice Swoop is a small, light blue apprentice with green eyes. Being the smallest of his litter has always been a sore spot for him, but he hides it by declaring that he's still growing. Playful and fun-loving, he's sad to not be able to spend as much time messing around with his friends and family, but he's also eager to explore the open ocean. His sister, Rain that Splashes On Water, would often use the tom's curiosity as a means of coaxing him to join her in one of her fish-brained schemes.
Rain That Splashes On Water || 6 moons || Apprentice || blizzardsfang
Splash is a very pretty pink she-cat with lighter pink on her underbelly, mouth, legs, and the bottom of her tail. She has always been very curious and as a kit often times got her and her siblings in trouble for her mischievous adventurous. She is sort of the 'ringleader' of her siblings and while she always manages to get them into trouble she does care deeply for them. She would protect her siblings with her life, she is an extremely confident she-cat and gets herself into predicaments with her outspoken nature. Leaf That Tumbles From Branch || 6 Moons || Apprentice || ashcloud
A ginger she-cat with tabby-esque markings of darker ginger and vibrant pink. She had white fur around her muzzle and her tailfin is whit with orange spots. Leaf has very long whisker-like appendages on her cheeks and over her eyes and a line of spikes on her back, blue scales at the base. A red marking is on her forehead. An enthusiastic but clumsy apprentice, Leaf is naturally fairly impulsive and prone to passing up sound judgement for quick action. She has an adventurous spirit and a curiosity she can't help but follow even when it leads directly into danger. However, despite her flaws, Leaf is a friendly young cat who cares deeply for her friends and is willing to do just about anything to help a friend in need. Dew from Settling Fog || 6 moons || Apprentice || rattlefang11
Dew is a pretty blue-green scaled she-cat with protruding white chest fur and deep green eyes. She has small silver horns on her forehead and fins on her cheeks. Although just beginning her apprenticeship, Dew can be a little headstrong at times. She is painfully honest and has a sarcastic and witty sense of humor. Dew sometimes can't take the hint to stop teasing, and this causes her to accidentally offend her tribemates at times. Past all the sarcasm and wit, though, is an awfully fun individual to be around.

whoo. added ] Dusk's internal clock told him it was time for him to wake up. Standing, he stretched and swept out of his den. Because it overlooked the common space, he was able to see his tribemates up and moving every morning. The sight always brought a smile to his face. The tribe was his pride after all. Jumping off the ledge, he landed heavily enough to draw eyes. Good. Wouldn't want to be scaring any cat this early in the morning. Padding over to join them, he simply listened as his deputy handed out patrols. "And where would you like me?" He purred, eyes glittering with amusement.

Stars eyes glanced as the leader joined them and she quickly stood taller, bowing her head in respect but also keeping eye contact. Her tail flicked slightly as she lifted her head back up "I was thinking of us taking a trip to the coral reef, it would be good for the clan to have a nice meal today." She glanced to the apprentices den with knowing eyes. There were new apprentices and they were going to be having training soon. Going from kit to apprentice could be hard on them considering they spend significantly more time in the water during the transition. She looked back to her leader, hoping that was a good suggestion. While she was confident under pressure, it was always a bit nerve racking making decisions in front of Dusk, she admired him so much.

"Come on, Splash," Swoop scrambled over his sister on his way out of the den. Having just left the nursery, his internal clock was still running on kit-time, ie 'wake up whenever, the later the better for your mother'. Thus, he had no idea if they were late. "This will be our first day out!" His paws slapped the stone floor as he hurried, not waiting for a response from his littermate.
Dusk's gaze flickered to the young apprentice who was currently running towards them. His whiskers twitched as Swoop slid to a stop, bumping into the deputy in the process. His green eyes widened as he looked between the two. "I'm not late, am I?" Dusk chuckled and exchanged looks with Star. "No, little one. You're not." Turning his attention to her, he nodded in agreement. "Good call. You and I can keep watch so the mentors can focus on teaching." Since Swoop was up, doubtless the other two of the litter would be joining them shortly. Knowing Thunder, the tom was already awake and doing a quick tour of the caves. Despite their secure location, he always felt the need to check them every morning.

Splash bounded after her brother shortly after he left the den, her blue eyes dancing with excitement. She skidded to a stop as she almost ran into their leader. Her ears fell flat against her head as she looked up at the much larger cat in wonder. She quickly straightened herself and moved next5 to Swoop, catching the last of the conversation. "Do you think we're gonna see a turtle? I bet I can hold my breath longer than Swoop! I heard there are snakes what do they look like?" She stopped as a small nudge made her stumble forward and she looked up sheepishly as the deputy stared down at her. She shuffled her feet and managed to hold her tongue while the older cats spoke.
Thunder stared down at the apprentices with stern eyes, he wouldn't scold their excitement but he knew the dangers of new apprentices and the water. Even though their lungs were made to be in the ocean, they weren't nearly as honed as the more experienced cats. The coral reef was a great place to learn but it was always best to be wary. "We would be honored for you to watch over us while we train." Star smiled slightly at the older toms words, he was honorable but he could also due to have some fun once in a while.

so as of right now, we're bringing some of the warrior apprentices on a training session to the coral reefs. Blizz and I were intending to have a minor shark attack (just a lone juvenile >:3). to keep as many folks involved as possible, the group would be: Star and Sand (guards), Thunder and Glow (mentors), Swoop and Splash (apprentices). Glow will likely be tasked with taking the apprentices to safety while the other three tackle the shark, but we'll see if that actually happens adjusting Dusk's response accordingly] "Take Sand with you as a second pair of eyes. I leave them in your capable paws," Dusk nodded to Star before signaling his own apprentice to follow him. It'd be too cumbersome to watch 3 little ones so his plans lay elsewhere. Once certain that Leaf was ready, he slipped under the water. Given that his stroke was so much larger than hers, he took 1 for every 3 or so she made. He also kept close eye on her to ensure she didn't need air. It was a dangerously common error for new apprentices; they were so used to the safety of the caves that made up the camp that they underestimate their need for air. Soon enough, the graveyard came into view. Dusk ducked under one of the wrecks and swam up into the pocket of air he knew to be there. As Leaf joined him, he gave her a moment to catch her breath and find her rhythm for treading in place. It wouldn't do either of them any good if he tried to teach while she wasn't capable of paying attention. "This is one of many air pockets in the graveyard, made possible by the plants that grow on the ships and produce oxygen." He nodded at the green that sprawled across the dark wood. "Your job will be to find as many as you can. I'll keep watch. Memorize them, they'll be important when you swim your first obstacle course." Once given an indication that she understood, he nodded. "Off you go." Swoop's eyes widened as Dusk disappeared beneath the entrance. He was partly relieved and partly disappointed to know their leader wouldn't be joining them. It was already daunting enough that the deputy would be watching them. Still, it was also a little confusing. Blinking between his mentor and the she-cat, he wondered who he ought to listen to more. Surely Thunder, right?

Wave that Climbs Shore || 60 moons || Warrior || blizzardsfang Wave is a pretty brown cat with black stripes all along her body. Flicker of Dying Fire || 48 moons || Warrior || blizzardsfang Fire is a sleek black and red tom with orange eyes that dance like fire.

Star nodded, the deputy looked to the other cats, her eyes shifting over them with a fierce gaze. "Stay with your mentors." She directed the apprentices, her eyes stern as she turned and took a deep breath, slipping into the water. She enjoyed seeing the apprentices learning, but keeping a close eye on things would have to do for today. While the reef was a great place to hunt and learn, it could be dangerous as well. Thunder nudged forward Swoop, the large toms leaned down to speak directly to his newfound apprentice. "Take a deep breath, we won't be able to get another until we get there." The tom padded forward, sliding into the water with ease. He was excited to be training a future warrior of the tribe, although Swoop had a lot of expectations to meet from the much older warrior.

Leaf was practically vibrating with excitement that morning, she'd hardly been able to calm even enough to rest after being apprenticed. Finding out it was their leader himself mentoring her had only thrilled her more, though anxiousness had also slipped in the cracks. Nevertheless, she was invigorated and excited to begin so when Dusk made his way into the ocean, she eagerly padded to the edge and clumsily lept in, dipping under water briefly before bobbing to the top to get her bearings. Once she felt ready, she slipped back under the surface of the water and followed him with the best swim she could muster.
As they travelled, she needed a stop or two on the way to regain her breath, but she did her best to keep up when they resumed. When she saw the massive cat swim down beneath the wreckage of an old ship, she followed obediently, and eventually popped up beside him in the air pocket. Taking in a big gulp of air, she exhaled with relief, her awkward splashing movements settled into calmly treading the water. Now her eyes were round with excitement once more and eagerly staring up at Dusk as he explainedthe nature of these airpockets and the task at hand. "Woah..." she said in apparent amazement, "I didn't know a plant could do that...!" Perhaps she was easy to impress, but if nothing else she found the concept interesting enough to commit to memory. With an energetic nod, she confirmed to was ready to go and with his words, she dipped back into the ocean.
She hovered in the water for a moment, her head looking back and forth as she considered where to start. This is one of many air pockets in the graveyard, made possible by the plants that grow on the ships and produce oxygen. She repeated those words in her head, realizing that if that wreck had air pockets, other ones might as well. Noting another ship nearby with several open spaces to enter, her tail swished behind her, and she began paddling forward as fast as she could. Pulling herself inside, she initially saw nothing but swimming through a long-destroyed doorway. Above her was an air pocket where she briefly stopped to breath, squinting down at a hole below that lead out of the ship on the other side. A faster way in and out. Taking advantage of that, she forced herself back out of the ship and began looking for her next target.
Watching Dusk depart into the ocean, Glow swallowed the nervousness he felt over his new position as Splash's mentor, his first apprentice, but outwardly seemed as calm and dignified as ever. It wouldn't look very good if he seemed as nervous as an apprentice, but there was certainly relief in not training the apprentices alone. Thunder was an impressive warrior, even if intimidating, and Star was the Deputy, thus he felt confident even if he didn't get it quite right, he'd be corrected. Embarrassing as it would be for him, he'd rather be corrected over allowing himself to improperly train young Splash.
As Thunder collected his apprentice, Glow followed suit, his golden eyes peering down at the little pink form of Splash. "As Thunder said. Take a breath and prepare yourself." Once he was certain the young cat understood, he padded out into the ocean until he'd disappeared below the surface with little more than the glow of his whiskers to note his location

Trembling with excitement, Swoop nodded. He took a moment to compose himself. Their parents always drilled that a fast rate was a bad beginning for a dive and he certainly didn't want to flounder things from the start. Once ready, he slid into the water. Of course, knowing how to do something and being able to actually do it were quite different. As the warriors led the way, Swoop marveled at how effortlessly they swam. No movement was wasted in Thunder's stroke and it propelled him forward. Swoop did his best to mimic those motions. He was so focused on his paws that he kept forgetting he had a tail that could sway back and forth as well. Eventually, his lungs called for air. While he didn't want to lose out to his littermate, he also didn't want to foolishly gasp. With great reluctance, he made the signal for a breath stop and paddled upwards. Shaking his head as he broke the surface, he inhaled and sighed.
---MeepMeep--- Dusk followed Leaf with interest. She was quick to find one, but he wondered just how many she'd get in the day. Would his impulsive apprentice spot the pattern? That more green indicated a higher chance of an air pocket. Or would she only focus on how to get in and out quickly with a one track mind? As his own mentor had taught him, the graveyard was a great spot to see where a cat's strengths lay. It was one of the reasons why the first leader instigated the obstacle courses. Not only were things like speed and agility involved, but taking in one's surroundings and deciding on the best route. Hopefully Leaf would learn it soon, but he certainly didn't expect her to pick it up in a day.
