Anyone else use virtual writing tools? I use Campfire and I'm thinking about Pro Writing Aid as well, if it works on mobile. World Anvil seems good as well, but there's no option for a lifetime option, so I'm just sticking with these two. I straight up just use google docs for all my writing.

Brownie; I did it! The other day on my day off I spent from 1:30pm to 9:30 pm working on my story! Needless to say, organizing my notes took a lot longer than 30 minutes, but I’m grateful I finally just did it xD Granted, it’s not entirely organized, but I did go through all my notes and separate what I needed next & also wrote additional notes as to where I could find my other notes. Oh my xD Anyways, I’m happy!

I still don't have a great idea on my two main characters yet, but I have a few ~vibes~ I can ride with until they come to me, I think. Imma try for a 50k week. I know I can do it, so I'm just gonna do it and see how far that puts me into this plotline.

brownie; thank you!
oh, good luck! i hope it all goes well for you! is it a fanfic?
wow!! so, if you do 50k a week, how often do you get to write a week/day? I wish I was disciplined enough! But usually I only get one day a week to write now bc every other day i'm too tired. weird how back in high school i'd have school all day, sports, and then homework and i'd still be able to keep my eyes open long enough to write. now, i barely make the drive home without falling asleep ):

Yes, it really is awesome That’s so cool! But omsc… that’s terrible that she lost it I almost lost mine due to a computer problem and I was hysterical. It was like a family member had died. I hope she’ll be able to write it again, but I also know how hard that can be… losing something you loved and worked so hard on and then having to replace it? It‘s hard to get that same feeling and those same words, ya know? Like maybe the plot will be the same and the characters generally the same… but, man. I feel for her. I’d feel the same way! Especially ones I’ve been working on for years. I think that’s why she’s never tried to rewrite it, that and just being busy with life over time. I asked her about it the other day, and she said she just decided to write it the summer after she graduated college, since she didn’t know if she’d ever have the chance/ free time again. She wrote it in about three months, and then worked on it/ asked friends to edit it for a few years before losing it. (Sorry for the late reply, this week just got super busy!) Also congrats to everyone hitting milestones and new starts on their works

I finally found the intersection of "thing I would like to write" and "thing that is relevant for publishing" and I think if I have any good shot at trad publishing, it would be with this project (perhaps not the form it'll be after this draft, but some variation of it) I'm in a very fortunate position right now to dedicate a week or two to writing and nothing else (my work is seasonal; long ons and long offs) which is why I want to push to finish this draft now while I'm still able to have the time to dedicate to it. 7k/day is a very reasonable pace for me, even forcing, so I'm going to set my goal as the 50k just to round up (and because saying I can do a nano a week is motivating haha) And right tho??? I couldn't IMAGINE doing anything but making food and sleeping when I am on work shifts ;-; I didn't even do things I wanted to do, like watch shows or play games. Yet same, in high school, I'd find time to keep like, four fanfic updated 2x/wk and idk how I did that (I do, the writing SUcked lmao)

I’ve been working on it for 5 months now 168 is HALF??? how long was the first season??? that's absolutely crazy. Also that you can focus on one project for months that's awesome! Half the reason I have to write so quickly is that I burn out fast, so if I don't finish a project in a week or two I just never will. Keeping up that long is awesome =O

Also congrats to everyone hitting milestones and new starts on their works Yeah, it really is hard. This is a little off topic, but-- when I went to see Little Women in theaters a few years ago, the scene where Amy ruins Jo's work absolutely destroyed me. I cry at most movies that I watch-- but that scene hit me hard & I bawled my eyes out. Probably because I relate so much to her in general. And I just felt every bit of pain she was going through when she lost her story. And this was right after I thought I'd lost mine. And so I was just imagining losing mine all over again. It's actually given me a lot of anxiety, which is probably another reason I took so long to start writing again. Every time I open my story, I get so scared that I'm going to lose it. Sometimes it's just easier to leave it unopened and make my mind believe it's all there instead of opening it only to find that it's disappeared.

I was finally getting to the writing part, too! Help, me too! I've done this before but I would personally recommend keeping the old plot somewhere just in case some aspects of it could be useful. Not nessesarily in the story, but worth keeping as perhaps a reference.

Wow this place kinda blew up at least by current wcrp activity standards lol. Anyone have any specific goals for April? I just want to write something every day. No specific wordcount goal, just trying to build a habit since I'm kind of a "when inspiration strikes" writer and that isn't great for my productivity.
Also from the previous page genre classification is a whole debacle, but in looking at fantasy fiction that's secondary world but has little to no magic/fantasy elements just wanted to mention there are actually books in that vein out there though there isn't a formal subgenre name for it yet! The subgenre's been around for a while and there's a few notable examples, Gormenghast is probably the best-known, the third book veers in a heavily science-fiction inspired way but the first two were pretty much just medieval dramas in a secondary world and it's still classed as fantasy. Also The Queen's Thief is pretty much magic-less (the gods occasionally communicate with the characters but they don't physically impact the world so it's kind of like prophetic intuition? wouldn't call it magic), The Remnant Chronicles/Dance of Thieves duology didn't have any magic if I remember correctly, KJ Parker's Siege trilogy is just somewhat historical medieval/military fiction without magic, and I've been told a decent amount of Guy Gavriel Kay's fantasy is also free of magical elements? So there's definitely some stuff to be explored for people leaning in that direction. The speculative fiction umbrella covers a lot of things and I don't think there's necessarily a set qualifications list for what classifies as fantasy, I wouldn't feel too boxed in about what can/can't be included. Even the more accepted divisions of scifi/fantasy/horror get blurry a lot of the time. I've been running into the genre-sorting question myself because I think my story would technically be classed as sci-fi, but it's got very little in terms of futuristic technology/scientific possibilities, it's mostly just secondary world but in a semi-contemporary setting? I could probably make a case for it being fantasy as well, or even general fiction? It's been confusing. I think at some point it comes down to how and to who it's marketed tbh.

Volga German or Yiddish might be an interesting case study for that. Though it kinda depends on how exactly the languages merges. Also I feel that about making more work for yourself. I recently decided that every piece of song or poetry within my story, I will first write completely in the conlang, and then "translate" it as closely as possible into English whilst keeping the rhyme schemes. Why? Self-loathing, apparently. Coming back way later bc my time perception ain't it, but I'll have to look at Yiddish linguistic history! I didn't think of that one, though I have looked at a few German sublanguages/dialects. Creoles are actually what I started with for the early form since they're rapid-contact merges which is kinda what I'm modeling. With more gradual/subtle cases of language overlap for further development I've been looking at Romanian since that's a romance language with a lot of slavic influence. It's not technically a hybridized language but it's still interesting. Predicting results of a theoretical language contact is just kinda dicey and there's a lot of different ways it could go which gives me some creative leeway at least, so we'll see what I end up with.
And I've done similar stuff, it gets hard to balance cause worldbuilding/conlanging is its own hobby to an extent and there's a point where it becomes a distraction from the actual storytelling/writing more so than an aid I think? And w/ my current project I think I've passed that point lol

I kind of forgot it was already the first day of April XD I'd like to just write for April, and I think that's a good goal for me XD But, more specifically, I'd like to keep track of my words & see how many I can get. I use to try to hit 70k. But now it's just going to be writing anything at all XD

And w/ my current project I think I've passed that point lol Oooo that's fascinating. I guess it kinda depends on how the languages merged, or more specifically which language came first. Since people often learn languages according to what's familiar to their native tongue, so whichever language was the "original" popular tongue can dictate which aspects of the second are adopted. Sorta like in English, we use the auxiliary verb "do" for negations, questions, and as just like...extra seasoning with verbs; that was a quirk of the native Celtic languages before the early Saxon invaders forced a Germanic dialect on the British Isles, and the Celts brought that odd use of "do" with them in adopting Old English because it's what they were used to. I'm definitely an overachiever when it comes to worldbuilding. I think of the characters first, world second, and plot dead last lol. I'm kind of like Tolkien where I have all these cool people and languages and worlds I want to share, but have to think of a good enough plot to warrant showing it off.

Captain Americat it's a Spongebob meme where Squidward is looking out a barred window at Patrick and Spongebob goofing off outside! Text over Spongebob/Patrick says "y'all actually writing chapters & talking word count goals" and the text over Squidward says "me still stuck in the planning/outline phase after ten years"
And in regards to being stuck in planning/outlining, I'd recommend writing anyway? Even if it's random disjointed scenes and character studies or backstory snippets or non-outlined events you just think would be fun to explore, or if it's a side project you have no intention of pursuing seriously. Creative writing is a skill that takes time to develop, and the writing practice- even if it results in mostly unusable/irrelevant work- will help for whenever you do have the outline completed and are ready to start putting it into prose.
