His eyes looked down, embarrassed for hiding such an important thing. "Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry." His ears flattened and he watched Cassia get up. His body tensed up as soon as she briefly brushed against him.
"You? Make me anxious?" he looked at her with a blush on his cheeks,"I'm more concerned about how the dust and dirt here is ruining my fur than you being around me Cassia." he huffed, clearly lying to get away from being the one teased. I can't let her get away with this. Was it really that obvious that he was growing fond of her?
The white tom soon got up and faced Cassia and purred,"So are you going to nurse me back to health?" He let out a small laugh under his breath and laid back down, this time facing Cassia rather than away.

Nutmegblossom wasn't intentionally listening to Sunchaser and Littlefoam as they talked, tucked away into a shadow - honest, she wasn't!
Well, maybe she was. But only because she wanted to spend time with them! And, lo and behold, they were going herb-picking! This was her perfect chance to jump in and join the pair.
"Hey, sorry, I couldn't help but overhear. You're going herb picking? Would you mind if I tagged along? I've been meaning to go all day, but couldn't quite work up the motivation," she meowed, a crooked grin on her face. "That is, of course, if you guys don't mind?"

Cassia "I suppose I'll have to try. We'll just have to hope you don't start feeling a different type of nausea," she purred, a teasing glint in her eyes. A couple of seconds later it dissipated, and her gaze turned affectionate and worried.
"On a more serious note, though, your wound's beginning to worry me. So, I propose I go hunting by myself the next couple of days, and you stay here, resting. I'll bring back some herbs, too, and we'll clean this place to prevent it from getting worse, and also 'cause it's really getting dirty here," she mewed, her voice distant as she seemed to be lost deep in thought, looking at the once-green cloth on the fluffy nest.

Whiteshark »
Whiteshark was perplexed when Batfall’s demeanor changed and he was soon cackling like some crazed parrot. What was so funny? She hadn’t uttered a joke of any sort - her words earlier had been serious.
The fur along her nape stood up, ears flattening back against her head in a defensive posture. "I am the best here!" She hissed, voice raised ever so slightly, yet she was just aware enough to know that a ceremony was happening and she couldn't disturb it. Whiteshark didn't plan on ruining her cousin's apprentice ceremony. "Did you see any other scout going out there to get rid of that boa? Sure, we had the patrol and all, but -" She cut her words off as Coconutfall began speaking, announcing to the Clan that Sunsetkit was now Sunsetpaw. Pride for her young relative swelled in her chest - it took everything in her to not call out the new apprentice's name right then and there. She'd have to wait until all four had their new names before celebrating.
Luckily her attention soon went back to Batfall as the tom spoke again. This time his words were a bit less scathing toward the molly. Even still, her opinion on Batfall was less than favorable at the moment. She knew Tigerpaw hung out with the fuzzy tomcat at times, but Tigerpaw would make friends with an angry crocodile if he was allowed. "I'll be the best mentor there ever was. Coconutfall won't even think about another scout to train apprentices." A narrowed gaze she shot at Batfall. A thought came to mind followed by a sharp-toothed smirk as she added, "In fact, I'll even make sure I get an apprentice. One of these kits will be mine to train, and I'll show you just how well of a mentor I can be."
Coconutfall »
Even if it had been seasons ago, Coconutfall still vividly remembered his apprentice ceremony. Nerves had him shaking from the moment he had stepped out of the nursery for the ceremony. He had thought that being Palmshade's kit would have made it easier, and he had thought knowing who his mentor would be would have made the ceremony easier, but standing in front of the entire Clan in anticipation, waiting for his mother to call him forward and give him his new name and new rank, had been one of the most nerve-wracking moments in Coconutfall's life. He had once thought it would be the most anxiety-riddled moment in his life, until he had stepped forward and named Tigerpaw as his future successor, thereby naming himself as the father of Gingerbreeze's kits. While he had felt relief in that moment, Coconutfall had never been so full of anxiety in his life.
He shook his head; now wasn't the time for such ponderings. What this all came down to was that he knew what Sunsetkit was feeling, knew exactly what she was going through. This was an exciting time, but excitement could only take the nerves away by so much.
Coconutfall offered the young kit a smile, hoping to reassure her. Yet for all the reassurance he could offer, a reminder in the back of his mind kept telling him that this was Skinkstripe's kit. He was already on rocky terms with the senior scout. One wrong move with her kits and he was sure to have the queen at his throat.
"Sunsetkit," he called to the kit again, "now that you have reached six moons of age, it is time for you to become an apprentice and begin your training. I have been told you've expressed interest in the path of a healer." The brown tabby wondered if this choice had been influenced by the fact that she had an older brother working as a healer for the Clan. "I call upon the ancestors of the Ocean to look down on this young cat as she begins her training. She will train hard to become a successful healer of HibiscusClan. In turn, I name her Sunsetpaw." Coconutfall paused to allow his words to settle and for the Clan to soak in the molly's new name. Once a few moments had passed, he continued, "Abaloneskip, as a senior healer, you have vast knowledge of herbs and their uses. You have trained fine healers for this Clan, and I entrust Sunsetpaw's training to you." The oracle knew he was taking a chance on this choice of mentor for the young molly. Abaloneskip was one of the Clan's most experienced healers, and while Coconutfall knew the white tomcat could train any apprentice into a fine healer, the healer was also Vanillabloom's father. Would Abaloneskip think of this as some sort of apology for what he had done to his daughter? Would he decline the offer of training an apprentice? Coconutfall only wanted the best mentors for these kits, and surely Abaloneskip would understand that.
The old white tom stepped forward, expression unreadable as he looked at Sunsetpaw and paused. Coconutfall's throat went dry. Would the healer reject this opportunity? Had he already made a mistake?
"I hope you're ready to learn, Sunsetpaw, the healing path is a long, tedious journey." Abaloneskip walked the last few pawsteps between him and Sunsetpaw and leaned down, pressing his nose into the fur between the newly named apprentice's ears to accept her.

Yoko
"A different type of nausea?" he looked at her raising an eyebrow,"I think I'm fine as a matter of fact." Yoko's white fur felt even more itchier spending time with Cassia. He wasn't sure it was from the injury, the teasing Cassia was giving him, or even both. He noticed the warm look in her eyes and looked away, still unsure why he was feeling the way he was.
He snapped out of his thoughts when Cassia started speaking again. My wound... Yoko listened to her idea and he shot a look at the molly,"I can't let you go by yourself Cassia," his eyes were now filled with worry. He didn't want another repeat of what happened and he wouldn't be there to help, even if he had a lame leg,"Let me go with you." His voice shifted drastically, shifting to a much more stubborn tone. The white tom got up slowly, pain aching in his leg, and looked at the loner, trying to prove he had enough strength to go with her. (tag: ☾—ivy。˚⊹♪:¨ ·)

Batfall
Batfall's hazel eyes glinted with mischief as he heard Whiteshark's voice clearly showing irritation. Oh how Batfall was glad to find a new cat to banter with. Although it was fun and all, had he just leaped into a rivalry with Whiteshark? Whiteshark is an extremely talented scout, especially for her age, whereas Batfall was simply average and barely meets the expectations of a scout. He himself was shocked that he was able to graduate without any problems.
"You and I have barely been scouts for a few moons and you think you're better than the veterans here?" he stared at her having a small grin on his face. "Oh, how I wished I had your confidence." he let out a little sigh before finally relaxing.
He faced forward once more, watching Coconutfall announce Abaloneskip as Sunsetpaw's mentor. The healer route huh? What a wasteful opportunity. Memories of him as an apprentice traveling with Parrotcall recalled in his head seeing Sunsetpaw officially named as an apprentice training to become a healer. "If you do end up getting an apprentice of your own, I hope you're able to prove me wrong. This clan needs stronger scouts." he huffed under his breath, still not facing Whiteshark.
He wasn't sure why he said that out loud to Whiteshark out of nowhere, but perhaps the stressors of what was happening within the clan were finally getting into him. Maybe more cats with a carefree attitude like the molly next to him were needed during these dark times.

Sunsetpaw
Sunsetpaw's eyes lit up as Coconutfall gave her her new name; or, a new start, as she dared call it. This was it: her fur bristled as she quivered beneath the gaze of the Clan. She looked as if she'd really like for the wind to blow in her face in a dramatic manner. Sadly, the weather did not comply to her wishes. Quite unfortunate.
She watched as Abaloneskip stepped forward. She listened to every word the old healer said. Something still felt off. This guy doesn't look very enthusiastic. Oh well. I guess old cats are just like that, full of old-cat-ness.
"I will give it my all!" Her ears perked up as she stood on the very edge of her toes in an attempt to see Abaloneskip more clearly. with abaloneskip, coconutfall and da clan Feathertalon

Whiteshark »
Whiteshark’s fur continued to bristle ever so slightly with a defensive nature. More likely than not Batfall was teasing her, and the muscular molly had never had problems with a good tease, but his earlier words had landed on a nerve that did not want to be touched. Underneath the tease came the sounds of reality. Whiteshark could hear as clear as day that underneath the tom’s teasing he truly did believe she wasn’t fit to be a mentor. If any cat was fit to be a mentor it would be her. She had gravely wounded a giant snake as an apprentice and lived to tell the tale. She was a force to be reckoned with and never turned down the chance to patrol for her Clan. She was as hard a worker as any, and getting to pass that work ethic down to her very own kin would do the Clan well.
”A lot of these veterans you speak of just had apprentices, I doubt they’d want another right away.” Including herself there had been four new scouts named for the Clan in the last few moons. That meant four scouts had recently been mentors, and those four scouts were bound to be eager for a break. And even with Skinkstripe going back to her scouting duties there was no way she’d be getting an apprentice now - as the mother of these kits she wouldn’t be eligible to train any of them. There was also the fact that Finrunner, Aniselight, and Brightclaw already had apprentices. That stacked the odds more in Whiteshark’s favor.
There was no chance of getting Sunsetpaw as an apprentice knowing that she was interested in healing. Any question on who the molly’s mentor would be was answered as Coconutfall called Abaloneskip forward. Had Kiwiheart known that his younger sister was following in his pawsteps? Whiteshark glanced around for any sign of her brown furred friend, curious to see if he was excited about having his sister on the same track he took. ”One of these kits is surely going to be a scout. That’s the one I’ll train into one of the best scouts ever,” she told Batfall in a hushed voice, wanting to be heard but not wanting to disrupt this moment for Sunsetpaw. Whiteshark’s mismatched gaze stakes out the three other kits waiting by Skinkstripe’s side. Who would be the scout from the litter? There were three options, and Whiteshark couldn’t wait to see who it would be.
Abaloneskip »
To say he had expected an apprentice would be a lie. If Abaloneskip were being truly honest here he had thought his mentor days were well over. A few times in the past few moons he had considered the idea of retiring and joining the counselors' den, but those had always been fleeting thoughts. Not too stubborn to know he was getting on up there in age, yet the white tom wasn't quite ready to give up his full time position as a healer. He felt as if he still had a lot to give, and apparently Coconutfall thought along the same lines as well. Unless this was some sort of spineless apology from the oracle after he had went behind Abaloneskip's daughter to mate with another molly - that molly being the aunt of this kit he was now responsible for. But Abaloneskip was not one to blame offspring for the action of their parents or relatives.
What he was truly worried about was the possibility of him not being able to keep up with the energy of such a young cat. Depending on how Sunsetpaw's training went and how he felt once she had a full name this may be his last job as a healer; she would for sure be the last apprentice he would ever train.
"I expect you to do as much," he replied to her excitement, leaning forward and lowering himself so the smaller feline could get a better look at him. The white tom even offered a smile; even if it wasn't showing he was rather excited himself. Abaloneskip had had a few apprentices in his lifetime, and getting to have one more before retiring was a rather warming thought.
Noticing Coconutfall raising his tail for attention once again, Abaloneskip nudged Sunsetpaw. "Let's head over here," he mewed as he gestured off to his right. A few other healers were sitting nearby, looking eager to greet the new apprentice.
The oracle's voice soon rang throughout the Clan, this time calling for another of Skinkstripe's kits to step forward. "Creekkit, please step forward."

————- ❀ ————- Gingerbreeze with Vanillabloom camp @ Feathertalon A deep well of pride was forming in her chest, making the ginger spotted hunter sit up straighter, also so she could see better from the back. She was overjoyed to watch her sisters kits finally receive their mentors, Sunsetkit - no, paw now, being one of the first. Abaloneskip was an interesting, but safe choice to make. Gingerbreeze could easily recall Coconutfall's anxiety over picking the perfect mentors for Skinkstripe's litter. She tried to be as helpful as she could in quelling his nerves. It was hard to tell if she truly helped at all, but her mate looked as strong and confident as he always did when performing these ceremonies.
The red tabby smiled widely, hoping it would reach her mate and that he'd feel her support all the way from the back of the crowd. When Creekkit was called forward, Gingerbreeze stole a look around, hoping to catch a familiar face. She was tired of sitting by herself. As luck would have it, she managed to catch the fluffy white fur of Vanillabloom not too far from where she currently was. Slipping through the crowd, Gingerbreeze settled herself beside the queen and gave her a friendly nudge. "Hey, looks like your old man has got himself another trouble maker." She mused to the slightly younger molly. "He looks just as excited as I thought he'd be." She continued to tease, knowing that behind Abalonekip's quiet demeanor he was probably delighted to be mentoring another healer in the making. Of course her teasing was all in good fun, an honest attempt to get the other she-cat to smile.
From her new position, Gingerbreeze could see Whiteshark from where she was sitting, and she was a little surprised to see her daughter talking to Batfall of all cats. She didn't recall those two being very good friends as apprentices, but they were having quite the hushed conversation. Her bright green eyes shimmered with interest, but she tore her gaze away to look once again at Vanillabloom. (jk i had some time :>)

Vanillabloom »
with gingerbreeze - 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢
It was always a joyous moment when apprentices were made. It was one of Vanillabloom's favorite ceremonies that could be performed, and it was no different to her watching Skinkstripe's kits earning their new names and being assigned a mentor. Pride for the litter welled inside the white queen, eyes shining warmly as she watched them step forward one by one. The four kits were not her own, but she had watched them from the day they were born, just tiny, squirming things that could easily hide against their mother's flank. Now they were standing before the Clan eagerly awaiting for their training to start. It seemed like only yesterday Skinkstripe had given birth to the litter, and before any cat knew it, the newly named apprentices would graduate to newly named warriors. She was as proud of them as she knew Skinkstripe was.
Vanillabloom watched in intrigue as her father was called forward. Seeing the thin tom stand in front of the spry Sunsetpaw, Vanillabloom could easily see the age that had written lines into her father's physique. His movements weren't as fluid, his steps slower, thin fur growing patchy in a few areas, but life still brimmed in those amber eyes of his. He was getting older, but he still had seasons yet left. It would be interesting, though, to watch Sunsetpaw's progress with Abaloneskip as a mentor. Her father was a fine teacher - he had taught plenty of young cats before - but he was sure to have his paws full with one of Skinkstripe's kits as an apprentice.
Breaking through her thoughts was a familiar voice. Vanillabloom turned with a smile as she greeted Gingerbreeze, purring in welcome toward the other molly. "He's always had a hard time not showing his emotions," the white molly teased with a twitch of her whiskers. As stoic as Abaloneskip was, it was clear to Vanillabloom that her father was excited nonetheless.
Glad to have somebody sitting beside her now, Vanillabloom made sure to keep an ear angled toward Gingerbreeze while watching Coconutfall call up Creekkit. Last she had heard from Skinkstripe the young tom was interested in pursuing the path of a scout. Skinkstripe was bound to be proud of that as he would be the first kit of hers to follow in her pawsteps. She did wonder, though, who would end up being Creekkit's mentor. With so many fine scouts to pick from, Vanillabloom could only imagine how hard of a time Coconutfall had in deciding who to place the kit with.

His ears flattened hearing Cassia deny his request. Cassia... He dipped his slender head, sighing quietly. "I suppose I'll trust you, but please, don't," he let out a small laugh and a faint smile before continuing,"What am I saying, you're Cassia, you'll be fine." He looked at her, eyes filled with uncertainty knowing Cassia was going out alone.
He walked over to Cassia and licked her head swiftly before stepping back once more. "Just be quick okay?" The white cat sat back down, mind racing from what was happening right now and in his head. I'll follow her steps a few minutes after she leaves, I don't think my mind can let her just go off like that.

Batfall
Batfall raised an eyebrow. The molly was right, the veterans surely wouldn't want an apprentice any time soon. Especially since he and the other apprentices that recently graduated were certainly a pawful to deal with. "You do have a good point. " At this point, the small cat didn't have anything to say.
"The best? Maybe if you're a good mentor which hasn't even been tested yet." he let out a small purr as he waited for Creekkit to step forward to become a paw. He wondered what path Creekkit was going to choose. The cat remembered the moment he proudly chose the scout route and hasn't regretted it since."Perhaps I'll get one of my own." he mewed to Whiteshark, leaving a snarky smile on his face. The tom laughed quietly once more at the thought of the molly's face if he got an apprentice of his own. The scout couldn't help but ask himself if he would even be a good mentor? He didn't have the qualities of one such as patience, kindness, and much more that a mentor would normally have. Batfall couldn't help but feel relieved knowing Coconutfall would most definitely pick some other cat over him. He knew for sure that he'd probably hand his apprentice over to another cat if he did have one if the cat troubled him in any way.

————- ❀ ————- Gingerbreeze with Vanillabloom camp @ Feathertalon "In fact, I don't think I've ever seen him look this excited before," Gingerbreeze continued the bit, finding it hard to keep her giggling quiet. Who knows what kind of rumors may start if they were caught being scolded like a couple of apprentices by a Clan member in the middle of the ceremony. It would be humorous nonetheless. Shifting slightly closer, the red tabby molly sat as close as she could to Vanillabloom, letting their fur brush and her tail sit on top of the others. Vanillabloom had become an unlikely ally over the past few moons, and Gingerbreeze found her presence to be immensely comforting. No one else's opinion mattered to her, except perhaps Coconutfall's of course.
With her eyes searching for Creekkit's white pelt, wanting to watch him climb up to the oracle, Gingerbreeze's whiskers twitched as an amusing thought came to her. "Do you think you'll ever have another litter?" She asked, her emerald green eyes flickering to the side to catch Vanillabloom's reaction. It was her roundabout way of asking the queen if there was someone she was interested in. She had spotted her and Cannadrop together conversing more often than she ever had. Gingerbreeze thought something was going on with the two of them, but Vanillabloom had yet to confess to anything.

Vanillabloom »
with gingerbreeze - 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢
It would perhaps be odd to be an outsider looking upon these two mollies. One had been pawpicked by the Ocean itself to be mated to the Clan's current oracle, while the other had gone against the Ocean's decree to be with the oracle among the shadows. Most cats within the Clan would not have faulted Vanillabloom if she had sworn a venomous rivalry with Gingerbreeze, yet that was the opposite of what the white molly had done. Instead she had stood by the red tabby's side. She had helped the other feline raise her kits, and even after Gingerbreeze's mate had been so boldly revealed to the Clan by Coconutfall himself, Vanillabloom had continued to nurture that friendship with the other molly. Love was love, and she had known even before being chosen as Coconutfall's mate that the oracle and hunter had feelings for one another, feelings that not even the ancestors themselves could break. Vanillabloom had never wanted to tear relationships apart, even if that meant breaking away from the family she had created for herself with Coconutfall. There was pieces of her that throbbed like a beesting, but it was for the sake of her kits, how she knew they were suffering from all this. But not once did she blame Gingerbreeze or Coconutfall, for all she wanted was to remain friendly, especially now that she called Gingerbreeze one of her closest friends, if not her best friend.
Vanillabloom knew she was lucky that Gingerbreeze had wanted to remain friends even after everything had come to light. There had been a stretch of moons in which the red feline had grown distant, rather melancholy in passing after the birth of her litter. Given what Vanillabloom knew now, she understood why the hunter had felt the way she did, and it was of no fault of Gingerbreeze's own. The white molly was proud of her friend for pushing through the hardships, and even prouder yet that she could still call the red tabby a friend. Yet even if the friendship had been broken off, Vanillabloom would still always have her kits and her father, and as she watched her father now, a smile came over her visage. He'd be a fine mentor to the young Sunsetpaw. "Anymore excited and he'll pop out of his fur," she laughed, ever amused by this little bit they had going.
A silence befall the two as Creekkit was called forward. Vanillabloom eagerly awaited for the call of his new mentor and name; surprise shocked her when instead she heard a rather interesting question coming from the cat that sat right against her.
Warmth flushed her fur when the question provoked more than just the thought of once again nursing a litter. It had always been a dream of Vanillabloom's to stay in the nursery rearing kits for the Clan, and while she was living part of that dream and had had a litter already, the longing for another remained. "I hope I get the chance to again one day," she answered softly, not unable to hide the faint sigh of longing that escaped her. There was no hiding it, either, as she scanned the crowd of cats in hopes of catching a glimpse of Cannadrop's silver pelt. She and the tom had been spending more and more time together, and as of late, Vanillabloom could feel herself developing emotions that went beyond just friendship. She just didn't know how the tomcat felt about her, or if he even wanted to pursue another relationship after the fallout he had experienced with Nightdapple. And even if the feelings were mutual, how would he feel about the prospect of more kits? He had his own already, and perhaps the one litter had been enough for him. The queen's bobbed tail twitched in uncertainty. This was more than Gingerbreeze had asked about, and perhaps a bit too much to express while in the middle of an apprentice ceremony. Whiteshark »
A grand smirk of triumph pulled itself across Whiteshark's muzzle. Of course she was right! There was no reason for her to be wrong, and even less of a reason for Batfall to see fault in her logic. What she had said was true enough - a lot of scout apprentices had recently graduated, and those who had mentored the young felines were sure to be ready for a break. Coconutfall was a rather dull-minded cat, but not even Whiteshark thought of him to be so empty in the head that he'd make a recent apprentice-less cat a mentor once more.
The mostly white molly rolled her eyes as Batfall spoke up once more. What was this tom trying to get at, she wondered. One minute he was agreeing with her and then the next it sounded as if he were trying to knock her down. "Well, if I have to show you that I'm the best, then it won't be much longer. Coconutfall's about to give me an apprentice. Just watch." There was a steady confidence in her voice that was to not be questioned. Whiteshark was going to get one of Skinkstripe's kits as her own, and as Creekkit stepped forward, a nervous tuft of white fur, Whiteshark held her breath in anticipation. Was Creekkit to be a scout? He had the making of ones from what Whiteshark could tell. There was a stout broadness to the young tom's shoulders that would fill out as he grew, and even though he was noticeably uneasy, Whiteshark could pinpoint the sturdiness of a scout in his gait. Whiteshark would not fault him if he wished to train as a hunter or healer, but it would be a crying shame if such scouting promise was lost to the Clan for another route.
There was more that could be said to Batfall, but Whiteshark kept any other thoughts locked away. This was an important moment for Creekkit. So she listened, ears angled forward, eyes sharp, as Coconutfall continued with the ceremony. "Creekkit, now that you have reached six moons of age, it is time for you to begin your training. You have decided to follow the path of a scout-"
Coconutfall continued to speak, but everything he said next was lost to Whiteshark as adrenaline rushed through her. A scout! He was going to be a scout! This was her chance. Creekkit could be her very own apprentice. She could get to train her cousin. No, she was going to be his mentor. He was going to be her apprentice.
"I name you Creekpaw," Coconutfall called out to the Clan. Whiteshark was snapped back to reality. She couldn't miss this opportunity. It was now or never. This was the one time that being Coconutfall's daughter meant something to her.
Stubborn resoluteness mixed with an impishness flare gleamed in Whiteshark's gaze as she shot a quick look toward Batfall, the molly rising to her paws and standing as tall as she could make herself. Tail and head high, she looked straight toward her father. "I will be his mentor!" Not a single hitch in her voice could be heard. Whiteshark was as confident as ever, steadfast in her determination to become a mentor.
A flabbergasted Coconutfall glanced down at his daughter. This was surely a first, as what cat would have enough bravery other than Whiteshark to demand an apprentice in the middle of a ceremony? The brown tabby stood in silence, shifting on his paws, clearly unsure of how he wanted to proceed. So Whiteshark continued, aware that all eyes were now on her. "I promise that I will train him to the best of my ability. Creekpaw will make the Clan proud with me as his mentor."
Silence on Coconutfall's part remained a moment longer, until finally, the brown tabby snapped out of his astonishment. Surprise lingered on his face, and when he next spoke there was a lilt to his words that betrayed his uncertainty, but no rejection toward Whiteshark's boldness came forward. He dipped his head toward the tabby and white scout. "Very well. Creekpaw, your mentor will be Whiteshark. She's a determined scout with a boldness like no other; she will train you well."

Creekpaw looked happy at hearing his new name, though jumped a bit when he heard Whiteshark. He looked over, shocked that the molly had been so determined to mentor him. Slowly, the tom padded over to her"i am grateful that you wish to mentor me, I will do my best to make you proud"

W A V E C R E S T Wavecrest's grey-and-white fur prickled with anticipation as if he were the one about to receive a new name and a mentor. He resisted the urge to knead the grass like an eager apprentice. So far, a healer and a scout apprentice had been named. There were two kits left - one for me and one for Flickerdawn, he couldn't help thinking. Surely at least one of the litter would become a hunter?
His whiskers twitched in recognition as he spotted his friend Mosslight sitting nearby with her brother. Normally, he wouldn't break decorum by speaking during a ceremony, but the hunter felt like he might explode if he kept sitting there silently, so he leaned over and whispered, "Good morning, you two." He gave Mosslight one of his characteristic half-smiles. "Hoping for an apprentice, or just here to observe?"
S U N C H A S E R "Nutmegblossom!" Sunchaser's surprised outburst drew a few unpleasant looks from the cats sitting nearest to them. She cleared her throat, lowered her voice, and tried again. "Of course you can come! Please do! If it's okay with Littlefoam, that is." She glanced at the little healer for confirmation but found her eyes drawn back to Nutmegblossom, unable to quit smiling. She couldn't help it; seeing Nutmegblossom always made her day better. Something about the other molly made her feel warm and fuzzy inside each time she looked her way. Probably because they were such close friends.
Suddenly, an outburst equal in volume to her own rang out. The golden scout looked around for the source and was startled to see young Whiteshark volunteering herself to be Creekpaw's mentor. "Wait, we can do that?" She glanced at her two best friends, confused, as Coconutfall acquiesced. Sunchaser's gaze took on a worried gleam as it then landed on the Oracle's two older kits lurking near the back of the camp. Favoritism toward his other daughter? They're not going to like that. Sunchaser tried not to pick sides, but she couldn't help sympathizing with Coconutfall's first litter.
J A C A R A N D A B L O O M If looks could kill, Whiteshark would have burst into flames on the spot. Jacarandabloom's pale blue eyes crackled like lightning and her tail lashed. "You have got to be kidding me." Whiteshark was still so young and inexperienced; she'd been an apprentice herself not six moons ago. She was in no way qualified to be a mentor. Landing a lucky hit on the boa had apparently increased the cocksure scout's already inflated ego. Sure, she'd weakened it, but it was Jacarandabloom who had helped kill it! If any of Coconutfall's kits deserved to have an apprentice it should be her!
But she could only stand there and stare helplessly as her father once again completely ignored her existence. Only the kits he'd had with his one true love mattered. He was too weak-minded and sentimental to lead if he entrusted HibiscusClan's future to a brazen young scout solely because she was his daughter. What made Whiteshark so special, anyway? The answering thought came into her head unbidden: because he didn't father Whiteshark out of reluctant obligation to duty. Because he actually wanted her.
Jacarandabloom flexed her claws. "When are we taking the plan to the next level? What's our next move?" she hissed to Redwave. This could not stand for much longer.

"Very much hoping for one. I hope at least one more is a scout, I've never had an apprentice before"Mosslight said with a shrug.
Troutwhisker laughed"I'm the cool littermate, I got the apprentice"he joked"good luck you two, hope you get one today"

Redwave »
with jacarandabloom - Tealraven & the whole clan at this point
Tension crackled throughout Redwave’s form like a lightning storm. His red-brown fur bristled as his ears flattened against his cranium, a snarl attempting to form upon his visage. Claws unsheathed the ground. When had a cat ever forced themselves as an apprentice’s mentor? Many a cat in the Clan was eager to train the next generation of warriors, yet every single one displayed restraint and patience in keeping silent and cheering out their joy when a mentor was named and it was not them. Yet here Whiteshark was, a cat that had been made a scout just a mere moon or so ago, demanding that she get an apprentice in a hideous display of hubris that had Redwave’s stomach churning. His littermate was sure to be sharing his own emotions, this being confirmed by her sharp exhale of commentary hissed under her breath.
This wasn’t right! This wasn’t fair! Redwave himself had no desire of being a mentor, at least not yet for he knew his passions lie in righting the wrongs his father had committed thus leaving him little time to be concerned about an apprentice. Yet that could not be said for Jacarandabloom; Redwave had never spoken with his littermate about whether or not she expected an apprentice out of this round of kits, but he would not be surprised should his sister admit to yearning for a young cat to train. Would Coconutfall had responded the same if Jacarandabloom expressed her desires - no, not expressed, if she had demanded that she be a mentor. Would he had conceded so easily for her? For a kit that he had had out of obligation rather than true affection?
Anger roused inside him, fiery, the noise of it vibrating deep within his chest. He had heard Jacarandabloom’s question, yet he only acknowledged it with a flick of an ear. Verbally he could answer her in another way - in the form of challenging their father. ”Is it truly wise to let such an inexperienced scout train an apprentice? Whiteshark is barely a scout herself,” Redwave growled, gesturing harshly toward the scout.
At this argument Whiteshark stepped away from where she had been speaking to Creekpaw. The molly’s hackles were rising, eyes as narrow as the trunk of a palm. ”I’m his mentor. What’s said is done.”
”Why should you be rewarded for acting impulsively?” Hypocritical coming from Redwave, but that was another story for another day. ”There are other scouts here with more experience that have waited patiently for their first apprentice. Why should you overshadow them when you have nothing to prove your worth over?”
Whiteshark was clearly about to respond when another voice, quiet and unsure, piped up. ”Perhaps now isn’t the time-“
”Hush!” Redwave snapped venomously as he turned on his paws to find the nervous expression of Tigerpaw. The young tabby had emerged from the throng of cats in an attempt to quell the growing hostility as he believed it would be his job to do as future oracle, yet Redwave would have none of it.
Another voice interjected, a voice that was much louder than Tigerpaw’s. ”While I agree that this is not the traditional way for mentors to be chosen, Whiteshark will be Creekpaw’s mentor. She’s young, but I trust her with my son.” Skinkstripe stepped in front of her last two kits who remained near her to glare at the arguing cats. There were many other points that Redwave could have made, but something in Skinkstripe’s stare even made him falter. She was not a cat to be trifled with.
With a huff Redwave backed down. He lowered his head, something like shame pounding in his chest. He’d step away from this fight. His quarrel was not with Skinkstripe, and he was smart enough to know that he needed to keep the molly on good terms; she was a strong supporter of taking Coconutfall off his leadership position, and a stronger ally to have.
”Now,” Skinkstripe began, casting a glance toward Coconutfall as even Whiteshark backed down, but not without shooting one last glare toward Redwave, ”can we continue?”
Perturbed was an understatement in how Coconutfall expressed himself. His brown fur was ruffled and his tail was swaying back and forth in a nervous manner. He coughed, clearing his throat, seeming unsure of how to continue on in a normal manner. ”Do-Dovekit,” he called, words slipping upon one another.
Redwave watched for only a moment as the small ruddy kit stepped forward after his mother nudging him more than once; he was round eyed with nervous panic, not surprising after what had happened moments before. Redwave huffed as he stepped back closer to Jacarandabloom. Adrenaline still coursed through him like a storm, anger welling in the pit of his stomach. ”He’s about to let this Clan fall to the Abyss,” he growled under his breath just loud enough for his diluted sibling to hear. ”We need to decide who will replace him and then build this Clan back up to how it should be.” It was either him or Jacarandabloom that would be the Clan’s rightful oracle, it was only a matter of deciding who. Redwave had eyes set on the position, but should Jacarandabloom crave the oracle spot then he would gladly allow her to ascend to the position. She was just as rightful an heir as he was.
As he awaited her response, he tuned back into the ceremony for a brief moment, Coconutfall naming Dovekit as Dovepaw. ”Your mentor will be Vinepool. Your patience and nurturing attitude has always been greatly appreciated.” It wasn’t much longer that Skinkstripe’s last kit was called forward. ”Wadekit, please come forward.”
Redwave flexed his claws. Wadekit would be the last kit named an apprentice under Coconutfall’s leadership, of this he swore to the Ocean.
