- - TERRITORY
Nestled in deep jungles and surrounded by a beautiful ocean, HibiscusClan makes it home on one of the many islands of Fiji. With mountains, jungles, and beaches, it seems as if these cats have it all, yet that is only the broad description of their territory.
Camp: HibiscusClan's camp is located in the northwestern area of the territory. It's made against a mountain's incline, sloped upwards so that it's not flat on the ground. The outward facing part of camp is hidden behind thick trees and brush, with the back of camp pressed up against the mountain. Dens are made in the seclusion of thick bushes reinforced with silver palm tree bark. The Fallen Snake, an old snakewood tree that fell generations ago, is where the oracle makes announcements to the Clan.
Calm Falls: To the left outside of camp is a stream coming down the mountain that forms a small waterfall. The water goes down into a shallow pool where the water is crystal clear. Many cats come here to relax near the waterfall and to wind down after a long day. This is also one of the only places in the territory to find hibiscus flowers.
Gecko Ravine: The valley between the two mountains, full of lush rainforest and other animals; it's a popular hunting spot for prey that lives on land. Aptly named, an abundance of geckos can be found here along with skinks, tree frogs, woodswallows, parrots, and a wide variety of other forest dwelling creatures.
Palm Coast: While there is an abundance in coastline, this particular stretch of land homes a wide variety of palm trees. It’s a popular spot for hunting fish as well, with the nearby ocean being rather shallow even far out.
Soft Sands: Connected to Palm Coast is a secluded area where many scout apprentices are trained in combat. The sand is soft, allowing for the potential fall to not cause injury. It’s also another popular hangout area for those who want to go further from camp.
Scarmaw’s Lair: Heading northeast from Palm Coast lies a stretch of mangrove trees. While some of this land is part of HibiscusClan territory, it’s advised that only seasoned cats go near this area. Saltwater crocodiles make their home here, and while usually docile, they have proved deadly to the Clan more than once. There’s even a tale told of a giant, battle-scarred crocodile known as Scarmaw. She has been spoken of for generations, many believing her to be an immortal guardian of the mangroves. Few have even seen her, and even fewer yet return to tell the tale.

Aloe vera: Dark green, mostly stem-less plant with long, thick fleshy leaves that fan out from the center. Filled with soothing gel that is great for treating burns and skin irritations.
Anise: Tall plant with yellow or white flowers and oblong shaped fruit. The fruit is great for treating snake bites.
Basil: Tall plant with large, dark green leaves and small, white flowers. It's a catch-all type of herb that medicine cats keep regularly stocked as it helps ease stomach spasms, gas, and colds. It can also help with a loss of appetite and regulate blood circulation. Nursing mothers often take basil after kitting to improve their milk production.
Brahmi: It has small flowers that are light purple or white in color with no more than four or five petals. It has a bitter and sweet taste. It is great as a memory enhancer and can relieve anxiety. It also promotes sleep, strengthens the immune system, relieves arthritis pain, reduces swelling, and helps with dry skin.
Coriander: The small tan seeds of a small plant with asymmetrical pink flowers. The seeds can be ingested to boost the immune system and fight infections.
Cinnamon bark: Peeled from the trunk of a sharp smelling evergreen, this bark is great for reducing spasms, reducing fevers, and stimulating appetite.
Clove: The flowering buds from an evergreen with small white flowers. Cloves are usually used to treat cats with minor colds and infections.
Comfrey: Small plant with large, broad leaves and small, purple bell-shaped flowers. Roots can be chewed into a poultice to treat broken bones, soothe open wounds, and heal wrenched or twisted claws. The leaves can ease stiffness in muscles and reduce swelling.
Garlic: Strong smelling plant with white roots. Can be chewed and ingested to combat sickness. Can be applied to bites and scratches to prevent infection. It's strong smell can also disguise scent.
Gavilana: is a large leafy herb that grows in the tropics, that is rather bitter. The leaves can be chewed up and placed on wounds to help battle infection.
Ginger: This sweet smelling root can be chewed to help with nausea or applied to relief muscle pain, inflammation, and other general pain.
Gumbo-limbo: These trees are thick trunked canopy trees with red, constantly peeling bark. They grow near the twoleg village and were once tapped, giving the cats access to the resin within. This can be used topically to help with rashes, sores, and insect bites.
Bayberry: Evergreen shrub with leaves that spiral around the stems and small reddish-purple fruits. Fruits can be eaten to reduce fevers or used in poultices as a topical aid. If too much of the juices are ingested it can cause a cat to loose their balance and lower their inhibitions.
Horseradish: Thick, low lying plant with large, crinkly leaves that have ragged edges and tall white flowers on thin stalks. The roots can be swallowed to help ease colds, treat sinus infections, relief pain, ease toothaches, and aid in digestion.
Lime: A tall, thorny bush with round leaves that are narrow in the middle - hourglass shaped. The leaves can be chewed to relieve stress, applied topically to reduce swelling, or made into a poultice to combat fleas and ticks. The tree also has large, round fruits that are highly dangerous if eaten.
Lemongrass: Tall, fern-like grass plant that gives off a faint sharp fruit smell. It is chewed for pain relief, and can reduce fevers and swelling. Kitting mothers can chew this to help their kitting along.
Mint: Small plant with many small, triangular leaves. The plant has a very sharp scent and taste. When chewed it can ease a mild cough, headaches, and general aches and pains. It can be rubbed on a queen's belly to encourage kits to nurse. Often used on a dead body to mask the scent of death.
Neem: Tree with long, skinny leaves and white, fragrant flowers. It can be used as to reduce swelling and often given to cats sick with colds.
Noni: The fruits of this particular tree smell awful, like stale sweat almost. The plant grows both by the shores and deep in the jungle. The juice or even the fruits in severe cases can be taken to help with stomach and intestinal issues. When applied topically it can also be an anti-inflammatory.
Nutmeg: The ground seeds from a dark leaved evergreen. Medicine cats use a small rock to crush the seeds. This technique was learned from seagulls who drop oysters from great heights to break them. It can be swallowed to reduce pain.
Sleeping lady: these plants are sensitive and close when touched, which are where the name comes from. This is great for calming cats and inducing sleep, often used to treat insomnia, depression, and panic-attacks. Also good for calming muscle spasms and nerve pain.
Snakewood: A hollow trunked tree with massive leaves and a thin, worm-like fruit - which is adored by birds and bats alike. The leaves when chewed into a pulp are used as a cure for snakebites and rashes. The fruits can also be turned into a pulp which is used to combat sore-throats, colds, and can even be used as a mild calming agent.
Spike plant: Skinny plants with long stems, sparse leaves, and tiny purple flowers. When swallowed, the leaves can ease colds and minor coughs.
Soursop: A tree which bears large green fruits. The medium sized leaves can be harvested and chewed into a pulp that is useful as an anti-inflammatory. It's great for back-pains and joint problems. Sometimes will be used to fight infections.
Parsley: Low lying plant with broad, crinkly leaves and tiny clumps of yellow or white flowers. No real use although can be used to stop milk flow in queens who have lost their litters. Is known to be poisonous to birds.
Pepper: Cultivated by grinding the fruit of a flowering vine, pepper is a great swelling reducer and pain reliever. It can also suppress appetites so it's often used in traveling herbs.
Rosemary: Low lying evergreen with needle-like leaves and pink, purple, or white flowers. It has a distinct smell and the leaves can be swallowed to induce vomiting.
Saragundi: Leafy plant with broad leaves and big orange-yellow flowers. Can be used to ease rashes.
Thyme: Has very small, narrow and elliptical, dark leaves. Small, pink stemmed buds grow out of the topmost leaves. Thyme is generally combined with other herbs. Alone can be eaten to treat headaches and toothaches.
Turmeric: Tall, distinctly shaped plants with yellow-orange cone shaped stems. At the top of the cone the leaves are normally white or green and every so often sprout a large purple flower. The roots can be ground and/or chewed to reduce swelling and relieve arthritis pain. Often taken with pepper to increase effectiveness.
Vanilla: Green seed pods from a broad-leaved plant with small yellow flowers. It is a great fever reducer. Like the mint it can be applied to queens bellies to encourage nursing.

- - BELIEFS
Generations and generations ago, the very first cats of HibiscusClan emerged from the ocean. They came upon the land and created a home for themselves, adapting to their environment and learning how to survive. From these cats the HibiscusClan we know today is here; overall, if it weren't for the ocean giving rise to the first cats, then there would be no Clan at all. Because of this, the members of HibiscusClan worship the ocean, praying to it for good fortune and a long, healthy life.
Hibiscus flowers are actually somewhat rare in the territory, being found only near the Calm Falls. It is said that the first cats made their home near the flowers by guidance from the ocean itself. It is believed that the ocean told these first cats to seek the security of the purple-pink flowers. Now the cats of HibiscusClan belief that these flowers hold the protection of the ocean within their petals, and living so close to them give the Clan reassurance of protection in camp.
- - RANKING SYSTEM
Ocean's Oracle: The leader of the Clan. This cat has the highest connection to the ocean, and therefore the ancestors. Any sort of omen or prophecy is given to this cat. They are the cat who makes the final decision on happenings within the Clan, and the one who gives orders for what needs to be done. Leadership is passed down from oracle to one of the oracle's kits. At any time after an oracle starts a family, the ocean will whisper which kit has been chosen to succeed them.
Counselors: The elders of the Clan. These cats dedicated their lives to their Clan, and now they are some of the most valued members. Their wisdom and knowledge are sought after by even the oracle in times of need. When a tough decision must be made, it is the guidance of the elders that help guide the Clan to their answer.
Ocean's Neophyte: The chosen offspring of the current oracle to become leader. They can be chosen at any point in their life, whether it be immediately after birth or once they're well into their adult moons, though typically it occurs within the first twelve moons of their life. Once chosen, they will begin oracle training, learning to connect with the ocean and how to lead the Clan.
Healers: The medicine cats of the Clans. These cats have an infinity for herbs and healing. They are the ones cats go to when they are sick or injured.
Hunters: These are the cats who hunt and fish to provide food for the Clan. They are typically swift-footed, agile, and nimble.
Scouts: Those who patrol the territory and are called upon for battle. They guard HibiscusClan day and night; at least one scout is always required to go with a healer or hunter patrol.
Apprentices: Cats over the age of six moons who are ready to begin training for their Clan career. Depending on what route they chose, they will be assigned an appropriate mentor where they will learn how to heal, hunt, or guard.
Queens: Expecting or cats nursing young. Some cats who are queens may not be expecting or nursing, but they decided to become a permanent queen to help those who do have kits and watch over the young ones.
Kits: Cats under six moons of age who have yet to begin their training.
- - TRADITIONS
Ocean Wade: Perhaps every cat's first honor is known as the Ocean Wade. After being named an apprentice and given a mentor, an apprentice's first official day of training, regardless on what path they chose, is to be dedicated to this tradition. The apprentice's mentor will take their apprentice down to the ocean where the newly named 'paw will place their paws into the undulating waves. Here they experience the magnificence of the ocean for the first time, hopefully gaining a better understanding of why it plays such an important part in HibiscusClan culture.
Ocean Watch: Once being named as a full-fledged member of HibiscusClan, a cat must go down to the ocean, where their training first began, and sit vigil by the shore. Here a cat must reflect on their life and think about where they want to go from where they are and how they would want to serve their Clan.
Flower Night: Every full moon the Clan will go out to Calm Falls where they will gather to share tongues, relax, and spend the night out near the hibiscus flowers. It's a time where the Clan can reflect on what has happened in the past moon, and a time when cats can simply relax and enjoy the night under the full moon's light.
New Oracle: Whenever an oracle passes, the neophyte will take their place. Much like the Ocean Watch, the new oracle must spend the night by the ocean, but as they reflect and think about their new life as the leader, the spirits within the ocean speak with the new leader, and connect with them on an entirely new level. This is when the unbreakable connection between leader and ocean happens, and it is said to be extremely back luck should something happen and break that connection as it is happening. Oracles do not receive a new name or nine lives.
Oracle's Chosen: While courtship is usually something that is left alone and allowed to blossom naturally, things are a bit different for the oracle. When still a neophyte, the current oracle will speak with the ocean about who will make the perfect mate for the next in line oracle. This tradition is to ensure that the oracle's bloodline is passed on through a suitable mate and in hopes that the connection to the ocean and ancestors will not be weakened. For a neophyte to go against this is severely frowned upon, and to chose a mate that was not selected is a grave error.
Flowergiving: Whenever a new litter of kits has been born, the Clan will come together to pick a few flowers from the nearby hibiscus bushes. The flowers will then be presented to the queen and kits as an offering of protection and good wishes for the new family.
Returning to the Ocean: HibiscusClan's origin story speaks about how the first cats arrived to the island by springing forth from the ocean. Whenever a cat passes on, the Clan will mourn over their body for the night. Then, once morning arrives, the deceased is brought down to the ocean by their loved ones and the oracle. There, the cat's body will be pushed out into the water, returning them to the ocean where life for the Clan all began.

- - SEASON
It is currently the dry season. The days are warm with little to no cloud cover in the sky. Sunshine is abundant and the cats of HibiscusClan no longer have to worry about intense storms throughout the day.
- - PLOTS
Tensions run high in the Clan when a shocking secret comes out - Coconutfall, the Clan's current oracle, mated with a molly that was not his chosen mate. To make matters worse, it was only when he announced that Tigerpaw, the son he had in secret, would be his neophyte, did this secret come out. Every cat has their own opinion, some saying that their oracle has defied one of the most sacred rules a leader must follow, while others believe that, like the rest of the Clan, oracles should be able to chose the cat they want to spend the rest of their life with. There are even some cats who are now against this litter he had in secret, along with the mate he took behind the scenes. Perhaps the one cat who took it the hardest was Redwave, Coconutfall's son with his chosen mate. With secrets exposed and different opinions being tossed about, chaos reigns supreme, and only the ocean knows what will happen next.
Due to Coconutfall's blatant disregard for tradition and disrespect toward the Ocean, the counselors have come together; they want to come forth and name one of Coconutfall's older kits as the next oracle rather than Tigerpaw, and just try to fix the oracle's mistakes in general. Who knows where this will lead or what will happen, especially with counselors going against their oracle.
- - NEWS
11/30/22: The boa patrol has returned. Injuries were dealt to the patrolling cats, though they managed to deal a killing blow to the snake; however, the eggs and nest that were found were not destroyed.
12/02/22: Flower Night is once again upon the Clan!

[ throwing out some really really bad starters, might do more for other characters later? ] Coconutfall »
For the past few days Coconutfall had mostly stayed within the confines of his den. A few times he had mustered up just enough courage to step paw into the main camp, usually just staying outside long enough to grab a piece of prey and take it back to his den. It had been three sunrises since he had stood in front of the Clan and announced that Tigerpaw, a son that the Clan didn't know he had had, was to be his apprentice. Even now he couldn't believe he had done that, and he questioned what sort of force had come over him to do such a thing. He wondered if the divine itself had washed over him, forcing him to announce his deepest secret. That's what it had to be. The ocean wanted Tigerpaw to succeed him, and so it pushed Coconutfall to make that happen.
But at what cost?
Now the tabby tom was terrified to leave his den, afraid of what might happen, what would be said. He was scared to meet any of his older kits in the eyes, nervous of what they would say to him. Vanillabloom had spoken to him not long after the reveal. The conversation had gone rather well, all things considered, but by the end of it the white molly had announced she'd no longer be his mate. He didn't blame her for that, he had gone against their entire relationship by getting with another cat and siring kits with her.
For now he remained in his den. He could hear pawsteps outside, cats walking around. He wondered if life was going on as per usual out in camp, but he doubted that. After what he had done, could anything ever be the same?
Vanillabloom »
From outside the nursery lay Vanillabloom. Her mismatched eyes were staring across the camp, watching in silence as cats walked through the camp. Her eyes landed momentarily on Tigerpaw. The young tomcat was awkwardly shuffling near Coconutfall's den, obviously debating on whether or not he should disturb the oracle. For as much as she felt hurt by Coconutfall's actions, she couldn't bring herself to feel anything but pity toward Tigerpaw. This had to be just as surprising to him as it was for the entire Clan. The white molly let out a sigh. It was hard for her to actually do anything right now, her mind still reeling from the past days' events, but she knew that, eventually, she'd have to get up and start contributing to her Clan. And perhaps she'd start with making sure others were okay.

Algaewing -- in healer's den -- open!
Algaewing was muttering to herself as she furiously tore off spike plant leaves. The action was a bit careless than usual, but Algaewing just needed something to dig her claws in. At another time, she'd gasp in blasphemous shame at the disrespect being shown the precious herb, but this was a stressful time, and stressful times meant pouring herself into her work - even if it meant her work took the brunt of her simmering frustrations.
"Cannot believe he never told us," she grumbled as she stripped off the petals. "You'd think, out of anybody and everybody, he'd at least tell his family? Now I have a whole other set of siblings and I never knew and what am I supposed to do about that? Do we - do I have to play catch with them now? Do apprentices that age still even like catch??"
The drying leaves gave no answer. Algaewing felt like tearing her ears off. "Just chuck all our traditions in the water, yeah, that's. Just. Fine." Each word was punctuated with a snip of the stem, and Algaewing finally pushed her work away with a sigh. Maybe she should talk to her brother, who was really taking it hard. Or maybe her mom. At the same time, Algaewing would probably explode if she talked to any of them. Family knew best how to push buttons, after all...

The last few days had been a lot. So much had been revealed, yet there were still so many questions that had no answers. Why had it happen? Why did Coconutfall go behind his family’s back and do what he did? Did he think he could have gotten away with it forever? Maybe it could have been a secret forever had he not outed himself in front of the entire Clan. But even still, the news was hard to take, and Lilypool was still reeling.
Time didn’t seem to exist anymore. Days blurred into nights. It was hard to focus, hard to do any work. Even now as Lilypool stared down at the pile of lemongrass she had been sifting through she couldn’t pay attention. Stems were strewn around here and there, no longer in a tidy pile, which was unusual for Lilypool as she was typically very conscious of what her work station looked like. But right now her heart just wasn’t in it. She let out a low sigh as she realized that today was going to be another day where she would get nothing done. How could she when the family she had known her whole life fell apart within a matter of minutes?
Speaking of her family…
Lilypool glanced over to the other side of the den where Algeawing plucked away at some spike plants. It was unusual to see her being so rough with the plants, and while Lilypool could always ask what was wrong, she already knew the answer. So instead she pulled away from her stack of lemongrass and padded over to her sister; she felt sluggish in her gait, as if she were wadding through water that was bogging her down. As soon as she made it she heavily sat beside her littermate, pressing her muzzle into Algeawing’s shoulder. Lilypool said nothing, sure that her sister already knew what this was about.

Once she felt Lilypool's head rest against her shoulder, Algaewing turned her head and gave her sister a couple of comforting licks on the crown of her head. She had been noticing Lilypool's concentration waning, her paws slow. Again Algaewing's protective instincts were stirring, and she felt another wave of fury and frustration towards her careless father.
"Hey," she meowed. "You wanna do something fun?" Algaewing scooped up her lackluster work and threw it to the side, haphazardly hanging leaves to dry. "We haven't had a good break in a while! We deserve some serious unwinding, am I right?"
Algaewing gestured with her tail. "How do the Calm Falls sound? We can go hibiscus hunting, like in our apprentice days!"

A pure black she-cat with unusual blue eyes (a bit of background on this; ojos azules/cornflower is a cat breed with bright blue eyes, and she has kittypet blood), a lithe build and relatively long tail and ears.

She loves water (unsurpisingly), and, due to her build, she decided to pick the path of a hunter. She isn't too much of a good fighter, and therefore tries to stay out of any fights.

Almost instantly did Lilypool feel better when her sister accepted her touch. It was reassuring to know that, despite everything, Lilypool would always have her sister. Their father may have gone and betrayed their family, but Lilypool would always have Algeawing, just as Algeawing would always have Lilypool. She was sure she could say the same about Redwave as well. For all his faults he would never go against his family. They were close. Not even Coconutfall's secret coming out could drive a wedge between the littermates.
Once Algeawing began speaking, Lilypool pulled her head away, ears swiveling forward and eyes glancing upward at the brown and white molly. A smile danced across Lilypool's muzzle. "That sounds great!" The tabby calico chirped. "It's been a while since I've done anything there, let alone look at the hibiscus flowers." Going out to Calm Falls sounded like just the thing Lilypool needed right now. After everything that had been going on, a day relaxing would do wonders.
"Should we invite Redwave? ... If he's around, that is," she added softly, worry clear in her voice. She had only seen their brother once since the announcement, and when she had he had clearly been disturbed, red fur bristled and eyes ablaze. Ever since then Lilypool had heard talk from others that he had been leaving camp as often as he could, sometimes even going so far as sneaking out of camp without a scout. It was worrisome. Lilypool wanted to talk to her brother, and she was sure Algeawing felt the same way, but there was only so much the two of them could do when Redwave was avoiding every cat in camp.
