THE MISSING APPRENTICE
Heatherpaw and Windpaw are denmates and are rather... opposite. Windpaw's overly energetic attitude often leads them to making rash decisions in which Heatherpaw gets dragged in to clean up the mess. So, on a particularly drizzlely morning when Windpaw wakes Heatherpaw, eyes aglow with the promise of adventure, Heatherpaw declines to engage. Disheartened, Windpaw lays back down in their nest and Heatherpaw drifts back to sleep. When they wake, Windpaw is gone.
Knowing that Windpaw will get in trouble for taking off alone, Heatherpaw begins to silently search for their friend, although the poor weather makes it difficult to follow Windpaw's scent trail. Heatherpaw must attend to their own duties and so their search is halted, although they are not stressed. Even in the worst of Windpaw's rash decisions and foolish adventures, he always returned to his nest after a scolding from his mentor.
Yet when Heatherpaw sat to eat their evening meal Windpaw was no where to be seen. Even the warriors were arranging search parties for him, and his mother was starting to act frantic. Like many, Heatherpaw felt frustration at though of Windpaw causing so much trouble for the Clan. Heatherpaw fell asleep that night with a nagging sensation of dread.
In their dreams, Heatherpaw heard Windpaw's voice. Heatherpaw was stood in a wide open field with a heavy layer of fog looming just above their ear tips. Windpaw's voice called out desperately, breathlessly, with a hitch to his tone that Heatherpaw hadn't ever heard before. Heatherpaw, in a panic, called back and began racing through the grass to find their friend. Heatherpaw woke a shivering mess and jolts up, knowing one thing for sure: they must find Windpaw.

Feathertalon ;; here we go! i do need to poof for a lil' bit to do some IRL stuff but I will be back.
Was just going to start by adding a few characters into the clan. I was also thinking that maybe the rogues could reside in twolegplace, meaning that Heatherpaw and her unnamed companion because I haven't decided yet, will have to go into twolegplace. What do you think?

Oooo exploring twolegplace would be really fun!! Probably cause a lot of shenanigans and whatnot I’ll try to get a list up of my side characters before I have to go to bed (got work tomorrow rip), but I was wondering about the sort of territory and whatnot of the Clan?

neato! i won't get my clan posted up until tomorrow either so no stress!
for the territory being near a twolegplace perhaps we could have them be at the base of a mountain? the clan could live in a bit of a 'national park' area where there are traces of twolegs (such as paths, camping in the spring) but they are able to stick to themselves deeper into the bushland. whatcha think?

That’s fine! There’s no rush ~
I like the national park idea! I wonder if that could even lead to some catch and release subplots with park rangers and other groups trying to keep the feral cat population down; perhaps some of the clan think that’s what happened with Windpaw and the twolegs will return him so they aren’t as worried about sending patrols out to look for him which is an extra push for Heatherpaw and your apprentice taking it into their own hands o:

Feathertalon ;; Yeah! That sounds like a good idea ^^
I'll throw some cats into the clan and rogue group now. should we give it just a generic sounding name like BrackenClan or we could put their camp next to a river that runs through the parkland and call them RindleClan or RunnelClan?

No one ever wants to come out with me... Windpaw padded sullenly through the undergrowth, flicking his ears as a thin drizzle began to drift from the star-speckled sky. The youngest of all the apprentices, Windpaw had spent much of his kithood in a solitary bubble. Being the only kit in an abnormally small litter, he had been too young to play with the other kits before they were apprenticed and too old to play with Littlerose's litter when they born. His heart yearned to be fulfilled with friendship and adventures, however his immaturity led him to make poor decisions. Such as this decision right now. Earlier that day when he had been hunting with his mentor, Boulderfur, he had noticed a strange scent on the breeze near the border, instead of reporting his findings to his mentor however, he felt a sense of adventure. When Heatherpaw declined to investigate with him he sneaked out of camp alone, braving a light drizzle as it clung to his coat and made his pelt twitch.
It was a short while before he reached the border. His pace slowed and he rose his muzzle to sniff the air, struggling to detect the scent as the rain blanketed every inch of the earth. It was around here somewhere, the tom lowered his head to the sniff the earth and followed his nose. As he reached the border he lifted his head slowly, staring over the invisible wall with yellow eyes full of wonder. Despite his adventurous streak he knew one thing to be sure: he could not step over this boundary. He explored a while longer until his muscles were feeling exhausted and he let out a long sigh - I guess it was nothing at all. There was a hint of disappointment to his countenance as he turned back towards the camp although his heart felt satisfied as his itch for adventure was satisfied. Then, a wretched scent touched his nostrils and he recoiled. Whipping back around, he opened his maw to let the scent dance over his tongue, and in a flash he darted through the undergrowth towards it.
Under a clump of ferns Windpaw stared with disgusted awe at a half eaten, maggot-ridden mouse. The apprentice recoiled with disgust, "Who would leave this here?" He couldn't imagine a warrior leaving half a mouse in the woods, nor could he imagine a fellow apprentice doing the same. Windpaw tipped his head curiously. Rogues were no stranger to the bushland surrounding the territory... but this mouse was within the clans borders. Windpaw's small, needle-like claws curled into the leaf litter and he puffed out his chest dramatically. "I'll have to report this to Flamestar!"
A tail-length away, scent hidden by the overpowering crowfood and rain, green eyes glimmered mysteriously. The tiny fool will be a fine addition, the cats face twisted into an ugly smirk, my leader will be happy.
Boulderfur sighed wistfully, the smoke-coloured tom paced back and forth in front of the apprentice den, his tail twitched with agitation. It wasn't unlike Windpaw to avoid his duties, which left Boulderfur filled with exasperation. "None of the other apprentices run off like he does," he mumbled bitterly to himself. Despite being a well-respected warrior who had mentored many successful warriors including Sorrelwing and Chickenflight. Boulderfur had the distinct talent of swallowing frustration and impatience when interacting with others, although that does not mean that he didn't experience those emotions. Boulderfur paused his pacing as the apprentice den rustled and Moorpaw emerged with a sleepy yawn. The tabby apprentice had partaken on moon high patrol so her late rise from sleep wasn't unexpected. Swiftly, Boulderfur stepped towards her. "Moorpaw, have you seen Windpaw?"
Being called upon by a senior warrior, Moorpaw quickly shook her pelt to rid it of moss tendrils. "I, er, I haven't." The timid molly tipped her head sheepishly, "He was here when I went to my nest after my patrol though." Moorpaw was the quieter of the apprentices, often falling between the cracks, unnoticed against other boisterous cats such as Windpaw and her own brother, Ashpaw. Her pelt warmed with embarrassment under Boulderfur's intense green gaze. causing her to shuffled awkwardly. "Well, if you see him let him know that I'm looking for him," Boulderfur straightened his posture and let out a sigh, taking a moment to calm his climbing frustration. "We have a hunting patrol to go on."
Moorpaw dipped her head as Boulderfur padded away. The molly scanned the camp clearing until she found her brother gnawing a mouse in the shade of a large tree that reached it's limbs over the clan; providing shade. The ground was moist underpaw although the night rain had ceased before dawn, so as Moorpaw reached her littermate her paws were darkened with dew. Ashpaw raised his head at her approach and wave his tail in greeting. "Have you seen Windpaw?" Moorpaw's voice was soft as a kits stomach although it sounded less tense now that she spoke to her brother as opposed to Boulderfur.
"Windpaw?" Ashpaw chewed a mouthful of mouse thoughtfully, creasing his brow in thought as he recalled the last time he saw the small brown apprentice. "He wasn't in his nest when I woke this morning, but I didn't take notice of it really." Ashpaw shrugged unceremoniously. Like many, Ashpaw struggled to feel concern when Windpaw was reportedly missing; why would he stress when inevitably Windpaw would reappear eventually anyway? Ashpaw licked his lips as he finished his breakfast and he rolled onto his side to swipe his tongue over his side.
Moorpaw spoke again, making Ashpaw's ears perk to listen, "We should try and find him..."
Ashpaw chuckled and rose his head, "He's probably just fallen down a rabbit hole outside of camp. He'll be back, don't worry about it Moorpaw!" The tom spoke with certainty as if he'd seen Windpaw fall down a hole with his own green eyes. Moorpaw didn't seem convinced and hesitated in her response, though before she could reply, Emberspots called her name. The molly jumped and turned her head back, "I-I gotta go Ashpaw. Can't you help try to find him? Please?" The small quiver to her tone was the only indication of her perturbation, a sound Ashpaw wasn't able to shrug off so easily as he often did.
"Okay, okay. I'll go ask Heatherpaw. Windpaw is always bugging her for attention, she might know something." Seeing the glimmer of relief in Moorpaw's eyes as she nodded made Ashpaw smirk. The grey tabby turned and bounded across to her mentor - likely to go hunting.
Ashpaw rose to his paws, lacking the urgency that Moorpaw had, and meandered towards the apprentice den; the first place he would look for Heatherpaw.

Elmheart » A deep curiosity burned in the bright green eyes of Elmheart as he turned to acknowledge the return of Boulderfur. He instantly noticed the absence of Windpaw, and the lopsided grin that had covered his face now turned into a frown of concern. "Still no Windpaw?" He asked with a lilt of hope in his voice, though he already knew the answer was going to be the one he didn't want to hear. Despite being a carefree soul, a cat who liked to crack jokes and make the hardship of Clanlife a little more bearable and fun, he was visibly worried about the young Windpaw. The apprentice was known for sniffing out trouble, but Elmheart didn't think Windpaw was the type to not show up to an important patrol. He could be wrong in his assumptions, but seeing how Boulderfur was reacting, Elmheart was actually taking this a little bit more seriously than he usually would.
A soft sigh slipped from the tabby's lips. He turned his gaze away from Boulderfur, looking out toward the entrance of camp. If Windpaw was somewhere out there, he hoped that the apprentice was alright. Lately the Clan had been at peace, surely Windpaw would be okay. No cat on the moonhigh patrol had reported anything suspicious, and surely if an apprentice was out there injured or worse - though Elmheart didn't want to think of the possibility of worse - some cat would have caught on and alerted the proper cats.
Tension rolled out of Elmheart's shoulders. If he focused on that then he could loosen the knot of worry that had tangled itself inside his stomach. "Well," the warrior started with a much chipper tone that was more like him, "maybe he just wanted to spend a night out of camp under the light of the moon and stars." A tease then rolled over his expression, head fluidly moving to turn his gaze back on Boulderfur. "Or maybe he wanted to be free for a day, get away from his mentor. I mean, I know when I was an apprentice I'd sometimes sneak out for a day so I could just laze around. You would have done the same if Deerclaw had been your mentor, too," he mrrrowed, leaning forward to give a friendly shove to Boulderfur.
Back to his typical cheery self, Elmheart was now rearing to get on with the patrol. It was a sure way to get his energy out all the while serving his Clan. "Should we head on out? We can keep an eye out for Windpaw. For all we know he's headed his way back to camp and we'll meet him along the way." That had to be the most likely scenario. Windpaw was alright, and he'd surely be back in one piece before long.
Heatherpaw » The sound of pawsteps pulled Heatherpaw out of her slumber.
Immediately a groan escaped the molly's jaws; she rolled over in her nest, stretching out her lithe frame and ending the motion by pulling her paws up to cover her eyes. This was the first morning since her apprenticeship that she had been able to sleep in, and she had expected to still be asleep for a bit longer. Unfortunately, fate had different plans for her, and now Heatherpaw was awake enough to know that she wasn't going to be able to drift back off any time soon.
Even still, she lay there in the warmth of her nest, paws still crossed over her face to keep the watery light of dawn from seeping into her eyes. "I'm not going on any patrols," the gray tabby mumbled under the fur of her limbs. "I earned extra sleep, so whatever it is can wait." She had no idea who she was talking to, and for a moment she was content with not figuring that out, but eventually curiosity got the better of her, and an inquisitive tone entered her voice as she questioned, "Who's there?" Even through her drowsiness she could tell that the pawsteps didn't belong to her sister Mintpaw. If they did the steps would have been softer with a cadence of uncertainty. These steps sounded slow, somewhat uncaring. It wasn't the rushing gait of Windpaw, so that was two cats off the list. That left either Moorpaw or Ashpaw, unless it was a warrior coming in to check on the apprentices.
Another groan came from the young tabby at the thought. After another moment she finally pulled her paws away from her face, slowly opening her eyes, blinking out the sleep. She lazily looked up, copper eyes squinting against the morning light pouring in, silent as she awaited an answer to her question.

Ashpaw
- With - [ Heatherpaw ] - Location - [ RindleClan Camp ] - Tag - [ Feathertalon ]
Ashpaw raised his brow contemplatively. Heatherpaw obviously was disinterested in having an interaction, understandably - Ashpaw equally disliked being awoken when he was allowed to rest longer in the morning. He glanced to the right and watched Elmheart playfully nudge Boulderfur. Boulderfur and Elmheart don't seem to be worried... why should I even bother? As the two warriors appeared to laugh and head stroll towards the camp entrance, his idea of Windpaw simply going on his own excursion was further instilled in Ashpaw's mind. The grey and white tom most frequently avoided activities and conversations that disinterested him, which was the reason that he lacked the urgency Moorpaw had when discussing searching for Windpaw. Glancing back to Heatherpaw's sleeping frame in the apprentice den, he wondered if he should even bother her. As he considered stepping away - obliging her initial complaints about extra sleep - Heatherpaw's voice piqued once more. He let out the softest of sighs as he stepped forward, entering the den. The tendrils around the entrance tugged at his coat as the hollowed bush swallowed his form, and he sat just inside the den. "It's Ashpaw." He murmured.
Heatherpaw was an acquaintance, they shared pleasantries and patrols, though he would be more inclined to share his dinner with Moorpaw or the most recently named warrior Sorrelwing. Often when he sought Heatherpaw specifically it was strictly on duty-related business. This time though he welcomed himself to sit and cleared his throat, shuffling his paws with uncharacteristic sheepishness.
"Moorpaw told me Windpaw is missing. I'm sure he's just caught in his own imagination somewhere, but she seemed worried." The toms tail moved to curl over his paws, "I know you have the morning to rest and all..." He couldn't look at her face as he realised it was selfish to ask her to give up her relaxing, drowsy morn for something that would likely resolve itself anyway, "could you help me have a look for him? Do you have any idea where he might be?"

Heatherpaw » Ashpaw. Hearing that name ceased all concern of it being a warrior coming inside to revoke her morning off. Was there a sprinkle of annoyance just underneath her skin that she had been woken? Yes, but she wasn’t as irked as she could have been had it been something else.
Though, when it came to Ashpaw, the two weren’t incredibly close. They were denmates. They trained together, went on patrols and hunted side by side at times. But that was the extent of their relationship.
Considering their not exactly close relationship, Heatherpaw felt a surge of inquiry as to why Ashpaw seemed to be seeking her out.
Without rush the tabby pulled herself out of her laying position. She looked over at her companion, silently noting his stance of unease. Something was bothering him, biting at him like fleas. Heatherpaw pondered on what it could be.
And then, before she could even make the motion to ask, Ashpaw answered the question dancing in her mind.
Instantly an agitated huff escaped her lips. A roll of her eyes strengthened that emotion within her posture.
This was a matter of Windpaw.
Figures.
Now, don’t get her wrong, Heatherpaw didn’t dislike Windpaw. He was a nuisance, a thorn in her side, an irritated flea bite, but if she didn’t want him hanging around her she would have chased him away long ago by now. Deep down there was a part of her that cared about her fellow apprentice. He showed her that there was more to life than strictly following orders and being a no-nonsense warrior; he showed her a sort of freedom that she would have never found herself had Windpaw not been a part of her life. He opened up the world for her, and she enjoyed that, even if she covered that thrill with the mask of annoyance more often than not.
For a while there Heatherpaw remained silent. All that could be heard was the soft conversation coming from outside the apprentices’ den alongside the gentle swish of Heatherpaw’s tail as it slowly flicked back and forth. And then, the quiet was broken by the molly’s voice. ”Fine,” she answered on an inhale, rolling her shoulders to rid them of the agitation from earlier. Then, in an exhale she added, ”I do have training later in the day, so I need to be back before then. But for now, I suppose I can help you look. As for where he could be…” She trailed off, turning her head to look at the den’s exit. Windpaw could be anywhere in the territory, though there was one place that stood out in the tabby’s mind. ”I do think he mentioned something about exploring near the border, the one by the twoleg paths. We could try there,” suggested Heatherpaw. It was the most recent location Windpaw had brought up to Heatherpaw, though that time around she had declined his offer. Only StarClan knew where that airheaded tom had run off to, but Heatherpaw had a feeling that she was already stepping onto the right path of finding Windpaw.

Ashpaw
- With - [ Heatherpaw ] - Location - [ RindleClan Camp ] - Tag - [ Feathertalon ]
Quizzically, there was a sheepish sort of nervousness that fluttered within Ashpaw's stomach, churning his recently eaten mouse. Perhaps it was due to the embarrassment of having to be the one who disturbed Heatherpaw - a cat whom he was acquainted but not over friendly with - and he could tell from her stiff movements and elongated silence that she wasn't pleased. When Moorpaw gets back from her patrol she'll have to give me an extra bite of her food! Ashpaw's stomach-motivated mind seemed to frequently circle back to the topic of prey and his whiskers flicked self-consciously. Heatherpaw's voice broke the peaceful murmuring of the clan outside the den and Ashpaw felt relieved by the words uttered.
"By the border?" Ashpaw's brows furrowed, "I hope he hasn't been caught by a twoleg... how do we explain that one to Flamestar." The tom muttered, his tone inclining with exasperation. "I wouldn't put it beyond Windpaw to get caught in one of their traps; not even I would go into one of those just for the pebble looking kittypet food." His nose scrunched almost instinctively at the thought.
Rising from his seated position, Ashpaw began nosed his way back out of the apprentice den. From the corners of his eyes he peered left and right, satisfied when he didn't see his own mentor coming to enlist him on a patrol. Unlike Heatherpaw, Ashpaw could be called upon at any moment, so despite his reservations about finding Windpaw he needs to act with haste if he was going to join Heatherpaw on her search. "This way," he didn't bother looking over his shoulder to ensure the gray tabby behind him was following as he walked swiftly to the entrance of the camp.

Heatherpaw »
It was easy to tell that Ashpaw was uneasy. Whether it be from the fact that Windpaw was missing or that he had to pull Heatherpaw away from her nest, the molly in question didn't give much thought to it beyond noticing his discomfort. Not being all that close to him, she didn't have it in her to stop and soothe him. Besides, if they wanted to look for Windpaw, she needed to spare her time for that, not giving it away toward making Ashpaw feel better.
The tabby gave a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders. "I'm sure it could be explained to Flamestar easily. Twolegs are always trying to catch us for some reason, but they always bring us back." Or so she had heard; Heatherpaw couldn't recall a Clan member having been captured in her lifetime - not that she had been alive for that long, only a few seasons - but she had heard rumors of Bucktail, the Clan's medicine cat, having once been caught and then brought back to the Clan safe and sound...for the most part. Heatherpaw was sure she could find out the truth about that little rumor by asking the medicine cat himself directly, but truth be told, she liked to stay far away from the herb-scented den and the cat who resided inside. Bucktail wasn't a bad cat, he was just a bit too much for Heatherpaw, overly energetic and friendly, like he couldn't make an enemy even if he tried. It wasn't a bad thing, Heatherpaw supposed, but something about that just rubbed her the wrong way.
Shaking her head to get rid of that train of thought, Heatherpaw focused back in on the task at paw. She walked out of the apprentices' den with ease, slipping into a fluid gait right beside Ashpaw. It wasn't until that the two were outside camp that a disgruntled huff came from Heatherpaw. "Of course it had to be raining today," she muttered, fluffing out her fur to give it some sort of thickness, an extra layer of protection between the rain and her skin. The rain wasn't bad, mostly a drizzle, but the gloomy gray sky foretold of a long day of rain. Just great.

Ashpaw
- With - [ Heatherpaw ] - Location - [ RindleClan Camp ] - Tag - [ Feathertalon ]
Outside the camp, the tom was able to relax somewhat. He hoped that Hickoryburn wouldn't be too harsh on him when he returned to camp, though he sighed quietly at the thought of having to search the elders for ticks as punishment. I'd rather hunt until my paws fall off then listen to the babbling elders, he thought with a pout, Moorpaw sure owes me one. He glanced to Heatherpaw as she muttered, the drizzle seemed to cling to her coat like dew to grass, thought the tiny droplets were dislodged by the small shake of her pelt. Due to his thick coat, Ashpaw was unfazed by the rain, though the way the dirt and mud coated his paws was annoying; merely because he hated having to clean himself. "Adventure cannot be halted by rain, Heatherpaw." His words, spoken sarcastically, mimicked what he imagined Windpaw would say to such a complaint.
The tom lifted his chin and took a deep breath, flooding his senses with the scent of petrichor; not even a whiff of Windpaw remained despite them traveling the most well-worn path towards the border nearest the two-leg path. Closing his eyes to hone his sense, he took another breath. The drizzle covered the forest in a blanket of scentless water, only allowing for the most recent events to be detected on the breeze before, they too, were washed away. The faint fragrance of rabbit tickled his nose yet even that had been a short while ago. Reopening his eyes, he looked to Heatherpaw, "I can't even pick up his scent... this rain may be more annoying than I initially thought..." the run off of his sentence implied his early relinquishment of the search.
"Did he happen to say what he was exploring? Or how long he would be?" Ashpaw flicked his ear as enough of the sprinkling raining formed a droplet that trickled down. "Knowing Windpaw his adventures range from finding shiny stones to crawling down fox dens, so I hardly know what to look for." The grey and white toms countenance reflected his exasperation, though his tone as he spoke with Heatherpaw was mild and casual.
