[ i finally started shining pearl, so piplup 100%, i love that little penguin cx ] Heatherpaw »
Heatherpaw had never been a fan of the rain. It always sunk deep into her fur and covered her skin, drenching her to the bone it seemed. It was times like this when she wished she had inherited her mother's fluffiness, but of course she had to inherit the thinner pelt of her father. Heatherpaw felt annoyance wash over her just like the drizzle. "I'm never doing this ever again," she muttered with ire twining into her words. Once they found Windpaw the molly was going to make sure that he knew just how lucky he was that she'd go out into the rain for him.
A huff and a roll of the eyes was the only response Heatherpaw gave her companion for a moment when he mustered a sarcastic imitation of Windpaw. "Right, right," she mumbled back, once again shaking her pelt free of rain. "Adventure must continue regardless of weather." Again, Windpaw was going to never hear the end of how Heatherpaw went out into the rain to look for him.
Ashpaw was right about one thing - the rain was making it almost impossible to track any scents, let alone Windpaw's. Any time she opened her mouth and breathed in the air around her all she got was the fresh scent of drizzle as it fell from the sky. Vaguely could she make out the smell of rabbit, but for once she wasn't looking for prey scents, and even the rabbit was growing stale as the rain continued on. Perhaps this search was useless... But for all her annoyance with the rain, Heatherpaw knew she still had some time before she needed to be back in camp, and a part of her was too stubborn to give up so soon on Windpaw. If she was missing Windpaw would do the same for her. Or so she hoped.
"...I...have no idea," Heatherpaw answered slowly, almost unsure of herself. Windpaw hadn't mentioned what exactly he was after, all he had said to her was that he wanted to go near the twoleg border. He gave her no other information beyond that, unless he had and she just tuned him out. "Maybe he found some weird twoleg thing?" She suggested, voice rising in an inquiry at the end. It would make sense given how close they were to the upright creatures' territory, and of course Windpaw would want to check something like that out. "Let's look for a little bit longer. Surely he can't be too far off." Heatherpaw could tell that even Ashpaw was starting to lose the will to keep the search up, and while Heatherpaw wanted to get out of this weather, she wanted to look for just a little bit longer. She wanted to search even for just a few more minutes, and hopefully that would be enough for them to find some evidence that Windpaw had been near recently.
[ also! i was thinking about some potential ideas we could do, and thought of something that might add a little more drama and get some side character action in too o: ]

Ashpaw
- With - [ Heatherpaw ] - Location - [ Nearing Border ] - Tag - [ Feathertalon ]
Heatherpaw's uncertainty didn't leave Ashpaw feeling the slightest bit hopeful. Regardless, he sucked in a breath and nodded at her desire to continue looking, trying - and failing - to look somewhat enthused. If he was going to be in trouble for ditching his morning hunt, he may as well make it worth it. Fluffing his tail, he swept it over the ground, collecting leaf litter and twigs as he did so, "Alright. Let's keep going." He trudged onward, swiveling his head to scan over the undergrowth as they traveled.
It wasn't long before the two apprentices reached the border. A short distance from the boundary was a clear view of the twoleg path - a long trail of gravel that appeared to be purposely placed. During the warm months twolegs would frequently traverse the path; Ashpaw still remember the day after he'd been named an apprentice. He had been brought to the border with his mentor Hickoryburn, alongside Moorpaw and Emberspots. The mentors had given the two apprentices a serious talking-to about avoiding the twolegs as there had been stories of cats who been snatched by them - some cats such as Bucktail returns, but others did not. Even now in the drizzle without a twoleg in sight Ashpaw shifted his paws uneasily, his nose twitching like a rabbits as he cautiously sniffed the air to ensure no twolegs were hiding in the bushes.
"I still can't catch the scent of Windpaw," he whispered softly, as though not to draw attention. His green eyes fixed to the bright copper of Heatherpaw's gaze, and his nose crinkled at the tang of crowfood that wafted on the breeze. From some filthy rogue, I bet. "All I can smell is that crowfood," he spoke the words with a disgusted frown, "I'd rather not hang around sniffing the air." He added pointedly.
[ piplup was my starter too! :-o cute penguin club!

[ heck yea, club penguin!! Haven’t got too far yet since I’ve also been reading the books I got but once I have them finished I’ll be doing nothing but pokemon xD but!! As for the idea, what if the rogue group eventually decides to use Windpaw as some sort of ransom? Perhaps him in exchange for territory or something else? I know Alice would do something like that, and that way we can have some clan/rogue interactions, and it could open up the potential of a clan divided what to do - just hand over the territory to get Wind back, or try and fight the rogues off to get Wind and keep their territory, or some other possibilities, I’m just shooting off here I’ll also have a reply up a little later ^^ ]

Heatherpaw »
The closer they got to the border without any trace of Windpaw had Heatherpaw’s heart sinking deeper and deeper in her chest. This was playing out as some wild goose chase, nothing to be found and the only thing gained was soaked fur. I was so sure Windpaw had said something about coming this way… The young tabby mulled to herself, jaw clenched in thought as she looked through the foggy drizzle. Yet, despite her search, there was still nothing. All she could see now was the gravel path where twolegs loved to populate in the warmer weather.
Any hope that might have lingered within the apprentice shriveled into nothing. Deflated, Heatherpaw turned to her fellow apprentice. ”Maybe he didn’t even come this way,” she mumbled, dejected. Just because he had said he wanted to go somewhere particular didn’t mean he’d be there - it would be just like Windpaw for him to head out with a goal in mind only to get distracted by something else entirely. That was probably what had happened here, and for all Heatherpaw knew Windpaw was on the other side of the territory, or maybe he was even back in camp by now.
Between the rain and now the rancid stench of decaying meat, Heatherpaw was ready to head back to camp. By the time they returned and got somewhat dried off, Heatherpaw was sure her mentor Snowmask would be ready to take her out for some training. At ten moons of age Heatherpaw couldn’t afford to lose any moment of training, lest she fall behind and delay her warrior ceremony; that was unacceptable for her, especially when she had such an ambitious goal - she wanted to be mentor material by the time Littlerose’s kits were apprenticed, though she knew that could prove to be a little too ambitious regarding her age now and when the litter of four would become ‘paws. Regardless, she had another chance whenever Hummingfrost’s next litter of kits were to be apprentices. Not that the silver tabby was expecting again, but Heatherpaw knew of her mother’s want for another litter, so she was sure she’d have younger siblings come next season. And hopefully she’d be able to mentor one of those siblings if she wasn’t lucky enough with one of Littlerose’s and Chickenflight’s children.
A harsh gust of wind slapped the rotten stench of crowfood right into Heatherpaw’s face, knocking her not only out of her thoughts, but almost off her paws as well. The gray tabby stumbled, spluttering in disgust. She managed to hold her footing, if only barely. Digging her claws into the rain soaked ground, Heatherpaw gave a spat. ”It’s time to go.” She agreed with Ashpaw there - she wasn’t going to be sniffing crowfood all day long.

Ashpaw
- With - [ Heatherpaw ] - Location - [ Border ] - Tag - [ Feathertalon ]
Ashpaw hadn't expected to find Heatherpaw looking crestfallen as her golden gaze drifted over the surrounding scene. It was outside of his realm to be comforting. He, unlike his sister, maintained a consistent distance between himself and any other cat. Whilst Moorpaw relished in the experience of pleasing others and befriending everyone - ironic, considering her shy nature - Ashpaw was content minding his own business; only wavering where Moorpaw specifically needed something of him. He tended to move with a self-confident swagger, sure of his own abilities, however not one to be arrogant and exaggerate them. As his pale green eyes turned away from Heatherpaw in search of looking at anything else, he mumbled his reply, "Aye, he probably just got distracted and went somewhere else instead." His words were spoken more matter-of-factly than reassuringly, the only hint that he may have been trying to soothe the tabby molly was the sheepish shuffle of his paws.
She needn't have said more, as soon as the words left her mouth Ashpaw was spinning and treading back the way the pair had come. "For all we know he could already be back at camp." He meowed over his shoulder, "I wouldn't worry at all."
However, as the two cats padded back into the camp, there was no sign of the small sandy-brown tom. Frowning curiously, Ashpaw scanned the clearing. Most cats who were not currently patrolling or hunting seemed to have taken shelter in their nests to avoid the rain. The sandy tangle of tree roots beside the elders den was bare of the two familiar figures, Baywatcher and Deerclaw, who usually filled them. The sounds of unsettled squeaks floated from the nursery, telling of the young kits who were not allowed to leave it's warm, dry walls. More nervously, Ashpaw glanced towards the warriors den. I just hope Hickoryburn isn't around right now. He noted Elmheart and Boulderfur sharing tongues beside the entrance of the den after having returned from their hunt. Ashpaw flicked his tail, I bet Boulderfur is going to make Windpaw check both elders for ticks when he gets back.
The entrance to the apprentice den rustled and for a moment Ashpaw expected Windpaw's triangular face to peer from the lichen that covered the entry, as though he were to magically fizzle into existence on command. Instead, Moorpaw's rounder face emerged, her mossy green eyes ablaze with concern. Her ears perked as she saw Heatherpaw and Ashpaw approach and she bounded towards them, skidding to a halt in front of them. She bent her head to give her chest a few embarrassed swipes of her tongue as she realised how childish her haste had been, then she lifted her head hopefully. "Did you find him?" Her voice was quiet, carrying a melodic sound that one could listen to for moons.
[ oooooh yeah! that way it would become more of an effort involving the whole clan to figure out what the best solution will be! i'm totally down to do that! also i made a character called Bur who is a rogue but doesn't want to be, yet she doesn't have a choice because she can't escape. will be cool i think if maybe one of you characters goes to spy on the rogues and either gets caught or almost gets caught, but Bur helps them out. what do you think? ]

Heatherpaw »
There was no sign of Windpaw even on their way back to camp. Heatherpaw silently prayed to the ancestors above that it was only due to the rain having washed any signs of him away, but as she and Ashpaw returned to camp, it was made quite clear to her that Windpaw was still nowhere to be found.
Something like irritation sparked in her stomach. It tangled together with the worry that was starting to pool inside her chest, creating an odd sensation that tingled throughout her body and left her feeling awkward, sluggish even. It was like she was treading through a swamp, boggy water pulling her down, and no matter how hard she tried to pull her paws free from the mud, she was only pushed into the muk further. Her ears flattened against her head, tail lashing with annoyance. Why did she even need to be so concerned about Windpaw? She wasn’t his mentor, his keeper. She had no reason to drive herself to madness over his vanishing act. He was a distraction, always wanting to go out on some silly adventure while Heatherpaw just wanted to become a warrior as fast as she could and prove herself to her Clanmates. She wanted to be a mentor, wanted to be a respectable warrior, and maybe someday, she’d be chosen as deputy. It had always been a dream of hers, and she was determined to not let anything stop her. Windpaw was a distraction, Heatherpaw needed to stay away from him, and yet… She always found herself following him around. She stuck by his side and sometimes even went on his hare-brained adventures. Heatherpaw shook some of the rain out of her pelt as she ruminated on all this. Despite wanting glory within her Clan, Windpaw was special to her. He was a friend, and the worry over her friend outweighed her ambition for now.
However, irritation still fluttered inside her stomach, so by the time Moorpaw had made her appearance, Heatherpaw simply gave a sharp response. ”No. If we did he’d be with us, now wouldn’t he?” The molly’s copper gaze turned to Moorpaw with a harsh intensity. Heatherpaw typically had no problem with Moorpaw. She thought the other molly was meek, but she had no hard feelings toward the other female. The fire in her tone only came from the irritation of all the mixed emotions running through her right now, but now wasn’t the time for Heatherpaw to stand around and sort them all out, not when her friend was missing and not when training was soon to come - if her mentor even wanted to traverse through the rain that added to the current mood.
[ yeah! and getting the whole clan involved would be a lot of fun oooo, i think doing something like that with Bur would open up a lot of potential for side plots and whatnot, and plus it would be fun to explore the rogue group a bit more in detail while playing around with this Bur subplot~ I could throw Antwing in since he's Wind's dad, though he'd be the unfriendly to Bur route, or we could do a friendlier route and I could use Elmheart or even Chickenflight - either way, I've got characters to throw in regardless on how we want it to go ^v^ ]

Ashpaw
- With - [ Heatherpaw ] - Location - [ RindleClan Camp ] - Tag - [ Feathertalon ]
Ashpaw felt the fur around his neck begin to bristle unconsciously at Heatherpaw's sharp quip. Unsurprisingly, Moorpaw's eyes widened for a heartbeat before she closed them and tilted her head, smiling gently. It wasn't in the molly's nature to fight fire with fire, she instantly backed down from any form of confrontation. "You're right, sorry Heatherpaw." She dipped her head and hastily made her escape without turning back.
Nostrils flaring, Ashpaw spun to stand eye-to-eye with Heatherpaw, matching her copper gaze. Where Moorpaw was soft and gentle, Ashpaw was abrasive and staunchly protective of those dearest to him; namely his only sister. "What'd you do that for?" His tone sounded gravelly, coated with the implication that he was defensive, not angered. "She's just as worried as you are! Don't think you are the only one who is concerned because you let Windpaw pester you more than others!" He stepped back and exhaled a breath he didn't realise he was holding. This is why he is so annoying! He's not even here and Windpaw is causing trouble! It was well known that Windpaw had stopped trying to garner Ashpaw's affections early into their apprenticeship. Whether others thought him cruel or unapproachable, Ashpaw didn't mind. What he did mind was his own business, so the chaos that came with the disappearance of Windpaw that somehow seemed to drag Ashpaw into it, was frustrating to him.
Turning his head, Ashpaw mumbled, "I don't care anymore. I don't even want him to come back. Maybe I'll sleep better without him there to annoy me." His harsh words were accompanied by a devout nod, sealing the fact that his patience had run thin.
And this is exactly why I didn't want to do this, he thought plainly. He knew that he was being more unpleasant than usual towards Heatherpaw after her ill-chosen words to Moorpaw, but now he felt obliged to commit to his bad attitude.
[ okay so ashpaw has a lot of character growth, trust me xD he isn't an unbearable cat
After this interaction ends we can skip to Heatherpaw's dream where Windpaw comes to her!
Agreed! I certainly anticipate this rogue group causing more trouble even after they get Windpaw back so building the characters there would be awesome! Also that's a toss up - I feel like Elmheart could be cool for it! Like he could be hesitant and unfriendly at first, but Bur would probably be too intimidated by the likes of Antwing. She's level-headed and smart, but in her situation she would probably think helping them might be just as much trouble as staying if the other cat was aggressive. ]

Ant’s just a jerk so he’d definitely just be rude; Elm though would certainly be friendly. He’d warm up to Bur pretty quickly and would wanna help her get out of her situation. They’d make for a fun subplot and friendship I think! ]

Heatherpaw »
Heatherpaw’s gaze was steely. Her muscles were rigid underneath her still soaked pelt. She was ready to throw herself into a verbal battle with Moorpaw should the other molly give fuel to the flames already sparking, but Moorpaw was sensible. She stood down with an apology, and while still annoyed, Heatherpaw’s defenses lowered. Perhaps she shouldn’t have been so ready to snap at her denmate, but right now, tensions were high for Heatherpaw. She merely blinked over at Moorpaw, the closest she would get to giving the other molly an apology - for now at least.
She was ready to give herself time to cool down, but it wasn’t long after Moorpaw had taken her leave that Ashpaw stepped in to stoke the flames. The fur along Heatherpaw’s spine bristled ever so slightly. ”Maybe she shouldn’t go and ask hare-brained questions,” Heatherpaw snapped in response with a lashing tail. She held her ground, staring Ashpaw down all the while bunching her body into a tighter form, standing tall upon her paws as if to look down at the tomcat.
A part of her was willing to let it go at that. Heatherpaw wasn’t going to antagonize Ashpaw anymore - she could tell that he was done with everything just as much as she was starting to be, but as soon as he opened his mouth to speak again, the gray tabby flattened her ears and let out a sharp hiss.
”Don’t you dare say that,” she spat venomously, jaws parted to say more, but Ashpaw was already walking away, clearly finished with the conversation. Anger boiled underneath Heatherpaw; Windpaw was a lot to handle, a nuisance a lot of the times, but he was their denmate, somebody who was supposed to be their trusted Clanmate. Maybe he wasn’t all the way there, but he was important, though apparently not to Ashpaw. If anything, he was at least important to Heatherpaw, and she was going to see to it that her friend came back in one piece.
Not wanting anything to do with Ashpaw anymore, Heatherpaw turned the opposite direction and stormed off, visibly irritated with how the day had gone so far.
The day had continued on. The skies remained cloudy, the rain never once stopping. The wet weather had gotten to Heatherpaw more than usual, though that was probably due to the sour mood she had retained throughout the day ever since the morning’s altercation between her denmates, and there was the fact that Windpaw had yet to return, which caused more worry to build up inside her. He should have been back by now. Windpaw would have been back by now…
As night befell the land, Heatherpaw retired to her den tired and just overall drained. She prayed for a restful night as she lay down beside the nest next to Mintpaw’s, and soon, she had closed her eyes.
Fog loomed heavy. It was thick, swirling around the wide expanse of field that seemed to go on forever. Heatherpaw looked around. She tried to make any sense through the thick blanket of fog, yet she couldn’t make out a single landmark. Anxiety prickled at her fur. Where was she? This looked like part of the territory, but at the same time, it didn’t look like anywhere Heatherpaw had ever been before.
In her confusion, she heard something. It was distant, faint, barely reaching out to the edge of her hearing.
Heatherpaw took a step forward.
“...Help…!”
Heatherpaw froze with a paw still in the air.
Her eyes went wide with recognition. ”Windpaw!” She called out. ”Windpaw, where are you?” His voice was choked with desperation. There was something else mixed into the tone, something that Heatherpaw had never heard come from Windpaw before. Was it fear? ”Windpaw! Can you hear me?” She called out again, desperate for an answer.
Nothing came. Silence was all she was met with.
Ice cold fear shot through Heatherpaw. Without thinking she broke off into a run, calling her friend’s name over and over again, only to receive nothing in response.
It felt like she had run for hours through the foggy field, and by the time she came to a stop, her breathing was ragged and she swore her pawpads had been rubbed raw. Heatherpaw tried trudging on further, but her body decided her exertion from earlier was enough; she stumbled, almost losing her footing. ”Windpaw?” She called out yet again in a hoarse voice.
Nothing.
There was nothing except the fog. The fog…was it getting thicker? It was starting to swallow her up, engulf her in its gloom, and before she could do anything to save herself, the mist overtook her, leaving nothing but darkness in its wake.
Heatherpaw awoke with a jolt. Heart pounding against her chest, Heatherpaw looked around frantically, fur bushed out and panic running through her veins. There wasn’t much she remembered from her dream other than one simple fact - Windpaw was in trouble, and she needed to find him before it was too late.
With a mission in mind, the gray tabby stumbled from her nest and made her way out, seeking out any cat she could that would be willing to listen to her worries and aid her in helping bring Windpaw back home.

Ashpaw
- With - [ Heatherpaw ] - Location - [ RindleClan Camp ] - Tag - [ Feathertalon ]
It's not like Ashpaw regretted what he said. He knew it was a harsh thing to say about the younger apprentice but as it stood Windpaw only seemed to cause trouble and be a nuisance. The tom huffed quietly. He didn't even care that he upset Heatherpaw with the sentiment; what was she, Windpaw's mother?
A short scolding from his mentor was nothing knew to Ashpaw. He took it on the chin, apologizing plainly and dipping his head respectfully. Interestingly, the tom did not supply a reason his disappearance - he did not angrily blame Windpaw for getting lost, Moorpaw for convincing him to find him, nor Heatherpaw for suggesting they travel to the border. Ashpaw had stared eye-to-eye with his mentor, Hickoryburn, and accepted the consequences of his own actions. It wasn't until after he had changed the bedding in the elders den and checked their coats for ticks - suffering endlessly through their repeated stories - was he allowed to eat his evening meal. When he sat to enjoy it beside Moorpaw as he frequently did, he felt more exhausted than usual, lacking the motivation to converse. His littermate made trivial attempts to confer, the silver tabby promptly recognized that he was in no mood, and after her own meal she moved away to play with Littlerose's kits.
After the vortex of a busy day, common sense began to impede the grey and white tom. He retired early to his nest and lay for a while awake with his chin on his paws, staring out of the den entrance and towards the twinkling twilight. Perhaps... he did care that he had been so cruel to Heatherpaw. The internal admission was enough to bring the tom some relief in his chest - had he been bothered all day? Rolling onto his side, Ashpaw curled tightly into a ball with his tail sweeping up to cover his face. Windpaw is still a pain in my paw-pad, I won't take that back. He thought as sleep gripped his mind.
***
Ashpaw stared at the sky. Through the misty drizzle, dawn was breaking, it's orange talons trying to break through the grey clouds that blanketed the sky. Breathing deep, the air smelled clear, carrying wafting scents of milk from the nursery followed by the less pleasant mouse bile from the elders den. I'd had enough of that yesterday, Ashpaw thought bleakly.
It was quite unusual for the tom to rise so early in the morn without being prompted by his mentor for the likes of a dawn patrol. Only now were warriors beginning to stir and amble from the warmth of their nests - if they took notice of the astute apprentice they certainly didn't show it. Ashpaw bent his head and licked at his chest fur in slow, sweeping strokes. He'd woken not long ago after a somewhat restless sleep, tossing back and forth so much that even Moorpaw - demure as she was - prodded him with exasperation. So he'd left his nest and hadn't gotten much further than the entrance to the den. He glanced back over his shoulder at the sudden sound of rustling and scrambled to his paws when Heatherpaw's grey form burst from the den. Despite their spat, he could sense urgency oozing from her pelt, her eyes were wide with fright and more than anything: she willingly left her nest before dawn.
"Wh-what are you doing?" He realised his tone and words held a hint of animosity and he hesitated, "What's the matter?" He added after a moment of hesitation, softening his tone and glancing away sheepishyl

Heatherpaw »
There was no signs of any other cats for what felt like hours in Heatherpaw’s panicked mind. Anxiety well in her chest, causing her to frantically look about the camp, her looks finding it to be uncomfortably empty. Dawn had only just broke, but surely some of the more work-minded warriors would be stirring from their dens to get the day started. Shouldn’t Flamestar already be out and about? Or what about Dimheart? She was a cat who seemed to know nothing but work and duty, out of all the cats in the Clan, wouldn’t she be awake and preparing the day’s patrols? Where were cats when Heatherpaw actually needed them? Was her own mentor even up and ready? Heatherpaw continued looking around, tail lashing back and forth in a fury. Windpaw was out there. He was in trouble, and she needed somebody else to pass this knowledge on to.
A voice broke her out of her mental torment. Heatherpaw startled, and as she did, a breath she didn’t even know she had been holding released itself from her jaws. ”Ashpaw!” She practically gasped, surprised to see her fellow apprentice first out of every other cat in the Clan.
Anger from yesterday forgotten, Heatherpaw jumped right into her worries. ”Windpaw’s in trouble. A lot of trouble. I heard him, he sounded scared. We need to go get him! I don’t know what’s happened to him, but he’s…he’s not safe, he’s…he’s…” She trailed her words off as she stared at Ashpaw owl-eyed. Heatherpaw had never been this frantic before, it was a new feeling for her. Emotions flared through her, making her mind feel fuzzy and her body feel numb. ”Should we get Flamestar? It’s that bad, Ashpaw, I just know it is.”

Ashpaw
- With - [ Heatherpaw ] - Location - [ RindleClan Camp ] - Tag - [ Feathertalon ]
There was a desperation to Heatherpaw that she'd never expressed before, at least not that Ashpaw had ever witnessed. Taken aback, he blinked at her and stepped back when she turned her full attention to her. Her eyes blazed with the ferocity of a wildfire and before he knew it he was trapped within the confines of the flames, with no way to escape.
The flurry of her words took some time to process. As the last breath slid from her maw and she looked at him expectantly, he found himself having to look away to collect his thoughts, feeling too distracted when he looked at her. The idea of bringing up Windpaw again should have irked him, as the picture of the young tom was annoying, but admittedly his concern was growing. Windpaw was still no where to be seen, his nest cold and untouched from the day before. Now, Heatherpaw seemed thoroughly convinced something was wrong. "Wait, what's happened? If you heard him then he really couldn't be far," the young tom craned his neck to peer around the camp, his nose sniffing the damp air, but there was no trace of the young apprentice. There's no way she really heard him, thinking logically, it didn't make sense.
Her suggestion of speaking to Flamestar was welcomed. Given Heatherpaw's frantic state the pair were clearly out of their depth, Ashpaw would be more than happy to pass the burden of responsibility to their leader. "Come on," was all he said before he set off, bounding across the camp to the leaders den. Two stones leaned together to create an opening between them and a flat surface on top, where the leader would stand and make announcements. The entrance to the opening was blocked by a bush that grew from the side however there was a tunnel in the bush from moons of walking in and out of the den.
"Flamestar!" Ashpaw's voice was hushed in an effort not to wake the whole clan. He shuffled his paws nervously, hearing the scuffling of the leader inside. A few heartbeats later, the ginger and white head of the large tom was pushing through the entrance, dark yellow eyes blinking sleep.
"Heatherpaw, Ashpaw." The leader began with a rumbled voice, "what are you two doing?" Once emerged from the den, the leader sat down with his tail curled over his paws. Ashpaw looked to Heatherpaw for explanation.

Heatherpaw »
Electricity crackled along her pelt. It tingled against every part of her, itchy as if she had dragged herself through briars and now had to suffer the wounds. Where all this anxiety had come from, Heatherpaw had no idea, but she did know that Windpaw was in trouble, and something had to be done about it. He was a pest, but he was a pest that always found his way back home at the end of the day, yet here it was, the dawn of a new day and he was still missing. He was a nuisance, but he was Heatherpaw’s nuisance, and she could only imagine that if the roles were reversed Windpaw would do the same.
Going to Ashpaw after yesterday’s fiasco probably wasn’t the best idea, but fortunately the gray and white tom agreed to bring the leader into this. A moment of thanks briefly flashed over the molly’s face, the expression gone mere moments after, her visage once again settling upon the look of worry. In the storm of anxiety that raged in her mind, it felt like hours before they arrived at the all too familiar den that housed the leader of RindleClan. By the time Flamestar even made his appearance Heatherpaw was all the more worked up. She couldn’t let too much time pass. What if Windpaw was out there hurt? What if some twolegs captured him and were going to do something terrible to him? What if…what if…
The rumble of a voice drew Heatherpaw out of her ‘what ifs’. Blinking upward with eyes still wide, Heatherpaw found herself looking into the sleep-dusted gaze of Flamestar.
She startled momentarily, having not realized the leader had appeared. Heatherpaw stood frozen before the fire colored tom, merely staring up at him, her mouth jarring open to speak yet no words tumbled out. It had been her idea to speak with the leader, so why was she suddenly clamming up? Flamestar was here to help his Clan, that’s why he was leader, wasn’t it? A leader needed to be there for his Clan when any member had anxieties to share, but Heatherpaw was just one apprentice out of many. Just one ‘paw out of dozens that Flamestar had watched grow up. Would her misgivings be enough to make the tom act? Would her worry over Windpaw be enough? It had to be enough. Some cat needed to do something about Windpaw. Some cat needed to go out there and save him, and by StarClan, Heatherpaw was going to do that.
This new fire building inside her was enough to thaw the ice that had taken hold of her. Passion igniting, Heatherpaw no longer cowered under the gaze of the leader, and instead, she relaxed her shoulders, stood taller, and faced Flamestar with that stubbornness she was typically known for. ”Flamestar, Windpaw’s in trouble. I…I have proof, not that I can exactly explain that proof, but…” She faltered in her words and shook her head, glancing down before looking back up, chest puffed out. ”We have to find him before it’s too late.” Hopefully Flamestar would see her desperation and realize that something had to be done for Windpaw’s sake.

Flamestar
- With - [ Heatherpaw, Ashpaw ] - Location - [ RindleClan Camp ] - Tag - [ Feathertalon ]
The extended silence once Flamestar emerged from the den left him tilting his head quizzically, glancing his amber eyes from Heatherpaw and Ashpaw expectantly. It didn't help that Ashpaw looked away, shuffling his paws as though he were embarrassed to be face-to-face with the leader for such a menial issue. For a cat often thought of as headstrong, Ashpaw seemed reticent. This further ignited Flamestar's interest in the sudden disruption of his sleep and he turned his head to Heatherpaw. The molly clearly had something plaguing her mind and the great leaders gaze softened as the young cat before him gathered her thoughts. When the words finally spilled from her maw, the leader felt his muscles relax - he hadn't been aware of the way they had slowly tensed with anticipation.
"Ah, yes, Windpaw..." The leader purred, his tone worryingly lacked concern. He swept his tail as though it would dispel any of the anxiety that the molly felt, "Don't worry Heatherpaw, Ashpaw. A patrol scented twolegs on the border - it's likely that Windpaw got swept away with them. It has happened a few times, I'm sure you know. I have these things under control, so you two just go back to your nests and leave the worrying to me!" His chest puffed out with a false sense of security. His tone was frustratingly belittling that it even caught Ashpaw's apathetic attention. "Here, I'll get the patrols to keep an eye out for him today, but he'll be back. Windpaw always comes back," Flamestar chuckled as though his words would be soothing.
The fur along Ashpaw's spine began to prickle with irritation, yet he had the wisdom to hold his tongue. He glanced to Heatherpaw out of the corner of his eye, watching the desperate expression move over her countenance. Sharp claws scraped over the rock beneath his paws and Ashpaw swallowed the urge to scowl. What a leader! I'm glad it's not me who got lost! Flamestar's sickeningly sweet smile continued as he meowed, "Is there anything else I can help-" However, he was swiftly interrupted as Ashpaw rose to his paws and dipped his head in an exaggerated motion, his patience thoroughly tested.
"Thank you, Flamestar. We'll go back to worrying about our own business now." His gaze whipped to Heatherpaw, piercing and serious, "Let's go, Heatherpaw." His voice was unwavering.
As Flamestar tipped his head, blinking curiously, Ashpaw turned and padded away with a flippant swagger to his step. He paused at the apprentice den, glancing to see if Heatherpaw was following. If Flamestar isn't going to take this seriously, then it seems like I've no option but to help, Ashpaw thought indignantly. It may be hypocritical, considering that Ashpaw had been so unwilling to help, but after Flamestar's evident lack of concern in the face of a clearly ruffled apprentice... well... Ashpaw felt as though he needed to step up in that moment.
"Let's go on our own. If you know where he might be, lead the way." Ashpaw turned his head to avoid meeting Heatherpaw's gaze, however the determined set of his jaw made it clear that his intentions were now to help. Even if those intentions were only because he disagreed with Flamestar's frivolous advice.

Heatherpaw »
Going directly to Flamestar about her worries was sure to save Windpaw, or so Heatherpaw thought. It was the moment in which the leader responded with such a lackadaisical tone that told Heatherpaw all she needed to know - Flamestar didn’t care. He wasn’t worried. He thought Windpaw was safe, yet Heatherpaw knew different. She knew that her friend was somewhere out there way in over his head. He had called to her last night, the tabby had heard him with her own two ears. She wasn’t exactly sure how it had happened, but she knew without a doubt that that had been Windpaw, and that he needed the Clan to rescue him.
Yet standing there, seeing and hearing Flamestar be so…so…so reserved about all this, Heatherpaw couldn’t believe it. The tom that stood before her was their leader. He was supposed to help the cats in his Clan when they had problems. He was supposed to stand up for those who couldn’t, to be the voice for the lost when they weren’t there. He was supposed to rally his Clan together in times of need, so why wasn’t he doing that? Windpaw needed Flamestar. Windpaw needed the Clan. Why couldn’t Flamestar see that? Heatherpaw looked up to Flamestar as their leader, wanted to even be in his position one day, but she had to admit that she was sorely disappointed in his lack of action and she wasn’t sure if she could look up to a cat acting like he was.
The fur along Heatherpaw’s spine bristled, her tail lashing back and forth as she glared up at the ginger and white tomcat. Jaw taut, the only thing holding her back from snapping at Flamestar was the stiffness that anger had brought her.
Sure, he could have gotten taken by twolegs, but I doubt it, Heatherpaw grumbled to herself internally. She couldn’t believe the gall that Flamestar had, telling her that everything was fine, that Windpaw was only briefly snatched up by twolegs, when she had been in clear distress over her friend’s wellbeing. He was in trouble. Would the leader have reacted differently if Heatherpaw was a warrior? That thought set a sour taste in the back of her throat.
With a lash of her tail, the gray tabby remained silent even as she departed with Ashpaw. Ashpaw had said it well enough - they’d go back to worrying about their own business. They didn’t need the leader, not when he clearly didn’t care.
Indignation coursed like electricity through Heatherpaw’s body. ”What a rat-heart!” Heatherpaw snapped in response to Ashpaw’s statement. ”He just doesn’t care, does he? ‘Oh, some twolegs probably just took him, I’m not worried about an apprentice missing’,” Heatherpaw mocked in a deep voice caked with annoyance. Rage fueling her, she stormed out of camp, not checking to see if Ashpaw was following or not. ”We’ll find him, though. Just because Flamestar won’t do anything about it doesn’t mean we won’t.” And with that, she headed off into the territory, determined to bring her friend back.
[ should we have them run into some of the rogues? maybe sorta kickstart the ransom / elmxbur plot? o: ]
