THE STEADFAST RIVALS
Icewhisker is a warrior from MireClan who has always had a rivalry with Palesnow from ValleyClan. The two were born within sunrises of each other and apprenticed at the same time, so each milestone is reached at the same time. Whether it is because they have differing personalities, or whether it's due to their close age, or maybe because their mentors also seemed to have something to prove when they were apprentices; the two are rivals.
For a few days the weather had been smelling of rain and dark with storm clouds, and so when it finally broke, the typhoon hit hard. MireClan sits at the bottom of a slope and their territory was swiftly engulfed in floodwater, leaving the clan to flee up to the slope towards ValleyClan. Luckily, ValleyClanallows MireClan to stay in their territory as long as the floodwaters are still causing their territory to be unlivable.
Comedically, Icewhisker and Palesnow seem to always be paired for hunts, patrols, or chores. Initially they argue and fight, but as time progresses they seem to be forming a bond. When it is time for Icewhisker to return home, they feel conflicted with their feelings.

⭐ 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖈𝖍-𝖖𝖚𝖊𝖊𝖓 ;; awesome! sounds good
hmm i am thinking i will make my character pretty stubborn. he hates making mistakes and feeling embarrassed, especially around those who he isn't close with. he doesn't have a lot of patience which can lead to him being snappy and rash.
all that said, he has a good moral compass. he knows what is right and tries to stick to it. he isn't much of a 'funny guy' and often times his attempts at jokes fall flat or miss the mark (think stupid puns and dad jokes), because of this he avoids humour which can make him seem bland and boring. hopefully that's enough to work with!
i need to go do some grocery shopping now so i'll be gone for maybe an hour or so. be back later! C:

aether I'll be using either Dreadsong or Palesnow. Dreadsong has more of a sardonic attitude about her and is still a little unsure of as to where her loyalties lie, though she's been with the clan for seasons now. She is very self-doubting and critical. Palesnow can be somewhat vain and is constantly trying to prove her worth as a warrior, because for moons other cats in the clan were trying to persuade her to be a medicine cat due to her coloring. Still some cats (mainly toms) doubt her worth as a warrior in battle because of her "dainty" looks.
are there anymore clans in the area besides our two? what's the gathering place look like, if there is one?

⭐ 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖈𝖍-𝖖𝖚𝖊𝖊𝖓 ;; it might be funny if it was palesnow and icewhisker who were rivals since they are both objectively pretty white cats, so icewhisker (who can be doubtful of her too) can be put in his place at some point by her saving him from something xD
hmm in terms of another clan we could have one but we wouldn't need to go so in depth with it. we can probably use it for plot points at times. if MireClan is the marsh in the base of the valley and ValleyClan is at the top of a valley, we could call it something like BoskClan (woodland clan) and say it is on the other side of the valley ("opposite" ValleyClan)? that way when they meet for the gathering it can be in an open grassland in the valley (where MireClan is) but at the top, so away from the marsh. does that make sense? xD

aether ooo let's go with Palesnow, I think that would be fun. and then I can save my darling Dreadsong for a backup plot
I'm going to give Palesnow Dreadsong's apprentice so that there can be an added layer to the plot of trying to sneak around her apprentice

Green-leaf was a season with bittersweet repercussions. With it's hearty warmth and ever-giving sun, it brought bountiful prey and kits free of leaf-bare illnesses. The medicine den was stocked with sweet smelling herbs; every cat was aptly cured of their ailments, giving each member of the clan a pep in their step. However, green-leaf also brought unstable weather events. After four sunrises of humidity so thick that Honeystar felt as though her pelt was caked with marsh-mud, she grew concerned. As this particular day came to a close the heat of the day did not ease. In front of the elders den, Heavyfrost stretched out as long as he could over the earth, it's sun-soaked top still oozing with heat despite the sun dipping beyond the trees. The elderly white tom panted quietly while Windleaf offered him water-soaked moss to lick. A sweep of her amber gaze left Honeystar frowning at the sight of three apprentices who would usually tussle in front of their den now being left exhausted and parched from a brief hunting trip. A frown creased Honeystar's brow as she looked upwards to the sky, watching as dark grey clouds collided and melded above. Not even the nights are free of this heat, she thought helplessly - a moment of weakness she would hide deep in her stomach. No cat should experience the burden that she did, it was her duty as leader; she couldn't bestow it onto her clanmates.
As the sun disappeared and the camp was engulfed in moonlit darkness, Honeystar felt relief as a breeze swept through the valley. It wasn't necessarily a cool breeze, however the sensation of fresh air running through her coat eased her discomfort that she'd felt throughout the day. Suddenly, squeals of delight from the nursery caught her attention, her ears swiveled atop her head as she listened to the sounds of tiny paws pattering from the nurseries entrance.
"Rosekit, Flickerkit! Don't go too far, Heavyfrost is too tired to play right now!" Sunwillow called, "Why don't you go and ask Sagepaw to show you some stalking?" The queen watched closely as her two kits seemed to procrastinate their response as their shamelessly edged towards the elders den just a few tail-lengths away. Amber eyes narrowing to slits, Sunwillow's patience began evaporating like a puddle at sunhigh, she began stalking towards the two kits with her tail whipping behind. "You two need to learn to listen or else you will be swallowed by a stork! I said-"
"Flickerkit! Rosekit! I bet you can't catch this mouse!" The voice was gentle with the promise of play, coming towards Sunwillow with breathless bounds. Rosekit was the first to squeak and scramble forward, the tiny she-kit was full of endless energy. Sunwillow turned her head, her irritation seeping out of her chest as swiftly as it appeared, when she watched her mate Ryestep play bow with a tiny mouse caught in his maw. As Flickerkit overtook his sister in chase, Ryestep danced backwards to avoid having the mouse stolen, and he zipped sideways to encourage the chase.
Honeystar left out a breathless purr of amusement. Despite the weather, her clan was happy.
The time came to retire to her nest. Although she would have preferred to sleep on the ledge that overlooked the clan, rain had started to fall. Her eyes closed and sleep was quick to pull her into unconsciousness. Yet in her StarClan touched dream she felt as though she was breathing water into her lungs as a single line echoed in her ears: Outrun the flood.
"Icewhisker, wake up!" The words were uttered at the exact moment thunder clapped overhead, so great that the earth trembled with fear. Usually one to move at his own pace, Icewhisker uncharacteristically scrambled from his nest with moss tendrils hanging from his pelt. The speaker in front of him was Archwhisker. The tabby tom, usually a cat of few words, looked uncomfortable and shaken. Any chance Icewhisker had of feeling groggy from his sudden awakening melted as he sensed urgency radiating from Archwhisker's small frame. Stepping forward, Icewhisker locked his mismatched gaze with Archwhisker's wide amber eyes.
"What's going on?" His voice was clear and demanding but another burst of thunder was clearer and more fiercer. It crashed like nothing Icewhisker had ever heard, causing the white tom to flinch.
Archwhisker flicked his ears with discomfort as the last of the thunder vibrated in the sky. It was at that moment that Icewhisker realised the tom was sopping and an impending sense of doom fell over him like a blanket of snow. "I've come back from a patrol with Ravenwhisker. The marsh is flooding and Honeystar wants us to climb up the valley towards ValleyClan - go and get your apprentice" Archwhisker hesitated briefly before continuing, "We're leaving now!" Without waiting another moment, Archwhisker slipped past to confront the next warrior awakened by the boom of thunder.
Icewhisker didn't need another moment. He pelted from his nest out of the warriors den only to be instantly greeted by the uncomfortable sensation of rain piercing his pelt. It poured so harshly that it was almost painful to withstand, accompanied by strong winds that almost swept him off his feet. "What in StarClan is going on?!" Icewhisker hissed through clenched teeth. As he reached the apprentice den only a few fox-lengths away he was already drenched. Lightning followed by thunder assaulted the sky; it flashed and boomed suddenly causing Icewhisker to momentarily feel disoriented. A warm body pressed against his side, yet his nose only inhaled droplets when he tried to scent who it was. Glancing to his right he saw the distinguishable pattern of Rabbitspots. She shouted over the rain, wind, and thunder, "Let's do this together!"
Icewhisker felt pitiful as he padded alongside his apprentice, Sedgepaw, and Rabbitspots apprentice Sagepaw. The senior warrior had entrusted her apprentice to him as she went to check on the elders. MireClan quickly found themselves wading from their camp as the storm tossed them through a whirlwind. A shiver tickled Icewhisker's spine as he contemplated the idea of Ravenwhisker and Archwhisker's patrol not being sent out in time for them to avoid escaping in the nick of time. How had Honeystar known to send a patrol to the marsh? He didn't care enough for the thought to linger in his mind. Instead, he took noticed of Sedgepaw shifting uncomfortably, mumbling to herself about hating her pelt getting wet. without replying, Icewhisker rolled his eyes. We've just escaped death by drowning and all she cares about is her wet coat!
"You'll let us stay?" Honeystar's voice was filled with breathless thanks.
Hypocritically, Icewhisker's first thought after almost drowning was: I can't believe we have to stay with ValleyClan! His whiskers flicked contemptuously as his eyes drifted over the camp. Like MireClan, the rain had left the camp drenched and filled with puddles, however due to their position atop the valley they were safe from the flood. He found ValleyClan cats to be... annoying (although he also thought the same of BoskClan). Not only that, a particular cat he found himself butting heads with often resided within these very clan walls. I swear to StarClan if she gets in my way I'd rather go swim back to my nest!
After a few more minutes of discussion, Honeystar turned to face the soaked members of her clan. Finally the rain began to ease enough so that Icewhisker was able to see ahead without blinking constantly and feeling disoriented. "Ramstar has been generous enough to allow us to stay here until we are able to return back to our camp. Rabbitspots, please ensure the elders are placed in the ValleyClan elders den right away - Ryestep, please watch over Sunwillow, Pigeionflight, and the kits. Icewhisker, take some apprentices and get some moss for bedding..." she drifted off sheepishly and turned back to Ramstar, "sorry to burden you more, but could you please assign a warrior to lead Icewhisker to the best area for bedding?"
Icewhisker huffed simultaneously with his apprentice. His complaint was being assigned a babysitter for a simple chore. Sedgepaw's exasperate sigh made clear her desire to rest in a warm nest; not hunt for bedding. Let's just hope Ramstar sends someone useful... like Copperclaw or Stormbird.

Mallowlight
with [ ValleyClan cats; Wildsky ] location [ ValleyClan Camp ] [ aether ]
Mallowlight had not experienced weather this heavy and foreboding in seasons. Up in the rolling hills of ValleyClan territory, the wind from the impending storm had even reached camp, though the clan was lucky enough to have plenty of natural barriers surrounding the camp so the winds weren't too strong. Still, though, the strong gusts had everyone on edge. The elders had retreated to their sheltered den, situated in a rock split in half, and Wrenjaw's kits were mewling wildly. The apprentices were frightened, with the exception of Mosspaw who was wise beyond his moons. Ramstar, even, seemed to be uncomfortable with the heightening weather; their fearless, austere leader could be seen by everyone to be pacing throughout the camp, tail occasionally lashing back and forth. Mallowlight's ears flicked in disapproval, knowing that his actions would only serve to make everyone more fearful of the storm.
Mallowlight found her emotions rising as she watched her clanmates, and knew she couldn't stand by while they all tried to figure out what was going to happen and why such horrible weather was on the horizon, making the night-time sky a sickly green color. The gray medicine cat retreated to her den, which she shared with any ill or ailing cats as well as her apprentice, and sought out the white tom-cat who was sorting through herbs. "Wildsky," she called out. "I'm heading out of camp. I'd like you to accompany, or Sweetrose if you would like to stay behind."
Wildsky stopped what he was doing immediately and turned to assess Mallowlight. Going out in this weather seemed dangerous, especially for the aging medicine cat. Apparently reading his mind, Mallowlight snapped. "I'm not that old." Wildsky chirped with amusement, but he was still concerned for the well-fare of his mentor and the clan's better medicine cat. He had completed his training and received his second name from StarClan (seeing as he'd already received one when he became a warrior), but he still felt inept compared to Mallowlight and her seasons of experience. He knew he could still learn so much from her and was wary to let her do something that might put her in the way of danger.
"I know, Mallowlight. But you also know how I feel about my skills, and I would hate to lose you to some storm when you could stay safe in the camp. Why do you feel the need to go? Couldn't I just go with Sweetrose? Or even Heatherwhisker could go." He was desperately trying to bargain for Mallowlight's safety, but he knew he would get nowhere with a stubborn molly like her.
Mallowlight shook her head and stepped closer to Wildsky so that she could lay a comforting tail on his back. "I feel StarClan's hand in this. I appreciate how much you care for me, Wildsky, truly; you've become like a son to me since you began your apprenticeship. But I feel I must do this; our ancestors are guiding me out of camp for some reason, and I know I must heed their call. I will leave you here, in case one of the kits needs poppy or the elders comfrey root. I'll take Sweetrose as well as Stormbird."
After a moment of thinking, Wildsky nodded in agreement. "Okay. Please, take care, Mallowlight - and watch after my daughter, too." The thought of the two mollies he cared most about - besides Waspflight - going out into such horrid weather sent a pang of anxiety throughout his body.
Mallowlight purred and licked his cheek. "You know I will." With that, she left her den again to gather her younger brother and Sweetrose. They accepted her summons without hesitation, and the three let Ramstar knew where they were headed before leaving camp. He gave brusque approval before returning to pacing, now with even more anxiety since his medicine cat was heading out into the winds and coming rain.
The patrol of one medicine cat and two warriors quickly made their way through the forested parts of the territory before reaching a hill with an excellent overlook of the two territories touching theirs, MireClan and BuskClan. The latter had more heavily forested territory than ValleyClan's, and so it looked like the storm wouldn't affect them too much. They were in danger of trees toppling over from the heaving winds, but Mallowlight knew their camp was situated in such a way that they would be safe from such an event taking place. MireClan, though...
When Mallowlight looked upon the marshland clan's territory, terror made every fur along her pelt stand up. Stormbird had a similar reaction. "Oh, no," Sweetrose gasped. The territory was flooding rapidly, and it was no small flood like the ones they were used to. This was a great disaster for the ages, what some would call a punishment sent from StarClan or an unholy curse bestowed by the inhabitants of the Dark Forest. Mallowlight knew it to be nothing of the sort, though; this was simply a catastrophic event spurred by nature's normal motions.
"We have to help them," Stormbird urged.
Mallowlight sighed and turned to him. "I don't know how we can, brother. We would have to send some of our own into the flooded areas, and they likely wouldn't even come back. We are simply going to have to ho-"
"There!" Sweetrose shouted. "Look! The entire clan is there! Honeystar is at the lead!" Mallowlight followed the calico's line of sight and saw that what she said was true. Her jaw hung upon for a moment as she realized this was why StarClan had called her out of camp.
"Stormbird, go back to camp as fast as you can and let Ramstar know what is happening. Have him send more warriors back out with you. We must aid them in their time of need, as they would us. StarClan save us all."
Ramstar had received the neighboring clan with as much hospitality possible. He shared the same thought as Mallowlight, that they should help MireClan because they would do the same for them. Though all three clans went through regular bouts of being allies and enemies, they were all cats under Silverpelt with common ancestors. They would never turn their backs on one another.
Heatherwhisker went around the camp, waking all of the cats - including the elders - so that they could all help their indefinite guests get into dens and dry themselves off. Palesnow was already awake, having taken the responsibility of night duty. She was soaked to the bone, but she was ready to help these poor cats who had been forced to abandon their home. "Oakpaw," she shouted over the many voices speaking. Her apprentice ran to her with a loyal and dutiful look in her eyes - as well as a bit of excitement. Palesnow couldn't fault her apprentice for that; this hadn't happened since before she was born. The elders, specifically Yewshade, were talking about when this had happened when they were kits, but that was many, many seasons ago. StarClan guide us, she thought in silent prayer. "Oakpaw," she said again, calmer this time. "Go help the elders move their den around to fit the MireClan elders. Once you're done with that, make sure there's enough room in the nursery to fit two more queens and two kits."
"Yes, Palesnow," the brown tabby said with a dip of her head before trotting away. Without her apprentice by her side, Palesnow was freed up to do more things, so she went to Heatherwhisker to see what she could assist in.
"Go to Ramstar, he has need of a warrior to lead a patrol." Palesnow made her way to her leader and, once there, ignored the annoying flash of white she saw out of the corner of her eye. Icewhisker. She didn't mind having the MireClan cats in her camp, but she certainly minded him being there.
"Honeystar," she said as she dipped her head in respect. "Ramstar, what can I do to help?"
"Lead this warrior and the MireClan apprentices throughout the territory to gather moss."
"Right away. Who am I goi-" Palesnow turned to look at the warrior who she would be travelling throughout the territory with and saw none other than the tom-cat she detested so. It was a serious struggle for her to keep her mouth shut, but she knew it would be wise to not say anything with the two leaders standing directly next to her. "Right. Well, Icewhisker, gather your clan's apprentices and we'll head out." It took every ounce of her strength and grace gifted by StarClan to not mutter something nasty to him.

Icewhisker
- With - [MireClan Cats ; ValleyClan Cats ] - Location - [ ValleyClan Camp ] - Tag - [ ⭐ 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖈𝖍-𝖖𝖚𝖊𝖊𝖓 ]
Before Palesnow appeared affront the two leaders - and beside Icewhisker - the frosty tom had heard Ramstar utter her name to Heatherwhisker heartbeats prior to the ValleyClan deputy slipping away through the sea of multi-coloured pelts. He couldn't afford to lose him composure in the presence of the ValleyClan leader after he'd so graciously given them safeguard from the floods. He remained silent - avoiding her gaze as insolently as she had his - and he flicked his tail tip behind his lean frame with contempt. Would Honeystar notice if I waded back to camp so I don't have to work with her? The tom gritted his teeth, flashing a look to his golden tabby leader just as she turned to stare at him. Somehow, it felt as though she was delving into his mind, her green eyes narrowed, and although no words fell from her maw, one thing was for sure: he'd best behave himself. Icewhisker flicked droplets from his ears in a futile attempt to prevent the water from dripping inside and he turned to look at Palesnow just as the ValleyClan warrior seemed to realise they would be pairing up for the patrol.
Inevitably, immediately after the words were spoken from Palesnow's throat, Icewhisker simply could not control his overindulgent response. "Of course, Palesnow! We'd best make haste, I'd hate to see you catch a cough from the rain!" His words rang with a tone that sounded perfectly pleasant however his mouth moved with exaggerated and petty intent. Icewhisker turned his head and nodded to Sedgepaw, "Can you find Larkpaw? I think I see him over there," his tone returned to it's natural low-volume frequency, and he used his tail to point towards the white and tabby apprentice whom he desired.
Speedy as a hare over the moor Sedgepaw bounded to her denmate, practically bowling him over as her paws slipped on the slick earth underpaw. "We have to get bedding with Icewhisker, come on!" She squeaked, offering no more information before slithering back to her mentors side. "Sagepaw, you should come too! Sootpaw is helping Ashleaf treat Squirreltail's torn nail." Icewhisker blinked in surprise at how his apprentice had taken notice of a detail that was, arguably, insignificant. Raising his head to could see the three cats near the edge of camp, Sootpaw's mostly black pelt melded into the night time darkness, but through squinted eyes Icewhisker could see the tom and his mentor cleaning Squirreltail's sore paw. If only she took notice of such details when we were training, Icewhisker sighed with with fond exasperation - being a mentor to such an opinionated airhead took just about all the patience Icewhisker had... which wasn't a lot.
Larkpaw strolled towards the patrol with a charming grin planted on his maw. His usually broad head appeared half the size with his coat pasted flat from the rain, though his boyish stance and swagger remained unfazed. Beside Larkpaw, Sagepaw brushed closed to his littermate. The smaller tom dipped his head politely to Palesnow, the first to show such respect, and he struggled to rise his chin as he shyly uttered, "Thank you for showing us the way."
Icewhisker shook his pelt; splattering his apprentice with a shower of droplets much to her dismay. Ignoring Sedgepaw's squeak of protest, Icewhisker turned to face Palesnow with a look of boredom. "Lead the way, then." His tone lacked any form of decency or pleasantries. Larkpaw and Sedgepaw seemed to already have distracted themselves with apprentice chatter, however Sagepaw seemed to experience second-hand embarrassment from the MireClan warriors lack of respect. "P-please, if you wouldn't mind!" The tom perked up.
Somehow, Sagepaw's insistence irked Icewhisker. The white tom flicked his whiskers and turned his head with the hint of a scowl. His festering irritation wasn't because Sagepaw was incorrectly placing his esteem, it was because Icewhisker knew he should be acting a better role model.
"Right, if you wouldn't mind." Icewhisker proceeded to saunter towards the camp entrance, flicking his tail in a motion to expel his pent energy.

Palesnow
with [ Icewhisker & MireClan apprentices ] location [ ValleyClan camp & territory ] [ @aether ]
Oh, Palesnow could not stand working with Icewhisker. He was so arrogant, selfish, and seemingly ungrateful of the shelter ValleyClan had provided him with, and it was not sitting right with the white she-cat. Not only that, but he was a horrible example for the MireClan apprentices! How were they ever supposed to learn to respect other clans when one of their mentors acted like that? It was shameful, truly. Palesnow wished she had the standing with Ramstar to discuss the subject with him; Heatherwhisker would have to do, if she was able to catch the brown she-cat's attention during the chaos that would surely ensue from having two clans in one camp.
For now, though, she was resigned to the fact that she would have to work alongside the dastardly MireClan warrior who she loathed so much. The only thing that made Palesnow accept the duty more graciously than she would have was that there were kits and elders and queens who desperately needed the moss. Icewhisker could say whatever he wanted about her, but he could never say that she didn't live up to the Warrior Code. Palesnow tried to embody it the best she could; it was the least she could do to honor her late mentor's memory.
Palesnow plastered on a smile and looked at the three apprentices gathered around her. "You are quite welcome. Thank you for being so gracious and polite; our elders are going to love having you lot around," she purred teasingly. "Let's go." Palesnow trotted to catch up with Icewhisker, and then passed him with a strong lash of her tail. Thunderstep, the kinder of her two brothers, was sitting nearby at the camp entrance watching with bemusement. He twitched his whiskers as Palesnow approached, and she knew that he was silently mocking her. "Oh, please," she hissed with a roll of her eyes.
"Be safe now," Silverflame called as he bounded to wish his sister well on her sojourn through the drenched territory. More quietly, he added, "And watch your back." Silverflame was the least trusting of the three siblings, and preferred to keep to his - very small - inner circle. Inviting the other clan into their camp was probably completely fraying his nerves; Palesnow felt for him. She would have to speak to Mallowlight or Wildsky about giving him something to soothe him. But that would have to wait until later, similar to her talk with Heatherwhisker.
A while later, the patrol of two warriors and three apprentices had reached a near-completely dry spot in ValleyClan territory. It was close to the very highest point of land that the clan controlled, and was densely forested. Good hunting could be found here, too, but Palesnow knew they needed to get back to camp as soon as possible - both for the sakes of the wet cats, and her sanity. Travelling such a distance with Icewhisker was seriously wearing her down. At least MireClan has good apprentices, she thought. Ours could learn a thing or two from them.
"We're here," Palesnow announced to the group. "Gather up as much moss as you can, and make sure it is completely dry. If you can find any dry leaves to wrap the moss in, that would be great - we don't want it getting soaked on the journey back to camp." Palesnow watched as the apprentices all scampered off to do their work.
"So dutiful," she remarked to Icewhisker with a burning gaze. "Sagepaw is yours? I would have never guessed that, based off of how polite and kind she is. She must spend most of her time with other mentors; no surprise there."

The journey through the territory seemed to extend for moons, Icewhisker felt. When Palesnow took the lead soon after leaving the camp, Icewhisker ambled a pace or two behind, purposely avoiding catching up to the other warrior. Instead, he spent the entire trek rolling his eyes at the squirrel-like chatter of Sedgepaw and Larkpaw. The pair couldn't decide whether they wanted to walk in front of or behind Icewhisker so their pace changed inconsistently and they moved back and forth like a wave that crashes on the shore. As always, Sagepaw followed them like a shadow; his ears seemed to swivel cautiously atop his skull at every sound in the unfamiliar territory, and he occasionally paused his step to breath in the surrounding scents.
The deeper the patrol delved into the densely forested woodland, the more uncomfortable Icewhisker grew. His uneasiness reflected amongst the apprentices whose constant chatter had now become hushed whispers; as though the forest had something to hide and they dared not wake it. Icewhisker hardly had the time to be thankful for the quiet. His pelt crawled as though he'd sat atop an ants nest and each creak of a branch overhead made him flinch briefly. I don't know how anyone could enjoy a place like this, he thought with distaste. He much preferred the marsh. When hunting in the marsh the sky was visible at all times - allowing for sunlight or moonlight to give clear direction. Here, the cats in front of him were swallowed by darkness and he could only make out Palesnow's white form every now and then. His nose was beginning to feel overwhelmed by the scents that were foreign to him - making his anxiety skyrocket.
Regularly the sound of Palesnow's voice made him feel dread, however now he felt relief. Although they were still engulfed in darkness he didn't have to worry about where he would put his paws. He was silently thankful to sit as Palesnow gave directions to the three apprentices, allowing him a second to breath. He didn't realise it until now, but his legs were shivering without his control; another sign of his unconscious anxieties.
"I'm going to collect the most moss! Larkpaw, I bet you can't get as much as me!" Sedgepaw's mew chimed with the song of challenge; her green eyes sparkling as she spun and bounded towards the moss-blanketed rocks and tree roots. Larkpaw's purr of amusement was the only reply as the large tom followed, padding forward with a charming smirk. Sagepaw slunk forward behind his brother, lifting his head between every few steps to assess the area.
Icewhisker was inclined to help them fetch some moss but found himself locked in place like a statue. He felt his heart beating like a drum in his chest and he licked his lips that suddenly felt dry. I'll be feeling much better when I can see my own paws, he flicked his tail with agitation. Never before had Icewhisker been exposed to such a dark and dense undergrowth. Even the forest in his own territory was relatively sparse by comparison. Although he didn't realise it now, one thing was sure: he was petrified of the dark.
Once more Palesnow spoke and Icewhisker's first response was a loud, unfriendly sigh. He had half the mind to simply not respond, however, he silently welcomed the distraction. "There's a lot of things you don't know about me," his voice grumbled and lacked any form of pleasantries, "one of which being that I'm a fine mentor myself. Sedgepaw is a good apprentice, but a mentor is the one who sees the skills of the apprentice and nurtures them." His lips drew back into the beginnings of a snarky, sarcastic grin, "Luckily for me, her politeness and kindness is of her own natural talent."
Yearning for more distraction, he thought of more to say.
"And I supposed I'd better ask, how is your apprentice?" He drawled, seeming uninterested. "What was their name? Oatpaw? Soakpaw? That would be fitting, given this dreadful weather." He chuckled shamelessly at his own unfunny joke.

Palesnow
with [ Icewhisker & MireClan apprentices ] location [ ValleyClan territory ] [ @aether ]
Palesnow had felt anxiety and tension rippling off of the MireClan cats while heading into the forest and had suspected it was just the apprentices. Surely, Icewhisker was made of stronger stuff. Apparently, though, Palesnow had thought wrong, because as the apprentices dutifully scampered off to collect moss, the stench of fear still hung strongly around her - and the only cat still with her was Icewhisker. She could have made a nasty remark about how he was as scared as a kit or even a kittypet, but... He just lost his home, where he grew up and was most comfortable at, for the foreseeable future. Now he's having to live with a strange clan and deal with an extremely cramped camp. Maybe Palesnow would give him lenience this one time.
"Oh, look at you, acting polite and asking after my apprentice! It looks like Sedgepaw is teaching you well," she bit back. The banter was meant to be rude, as it normally was between the two of them, but Palesnow felt like there was an edge of playfulness to it this time. Perhaps she was subconsciously trying to comfort him. "Oakpaw is her name, mouse-brain, and it'd probably do you good to remember it since she's Ramstar's daughter." Her tail stood up straight in pride for the fact that she was training the leader's own kit. "Oakpaw is doing fairly well. She definitely still has some rambunctiousness to her, but I feel like that might just be part of her personality. And your apprentices could probably teach her a thing or two about manners, but don't tell Ramstar I said that." In truth, Ramstar would take that as an opportunity to school all of the apprentices - including his own daughter. He held no favoritism when it came to disciplining the apprentices, which was something Palesnow and other warriors had been afraid of. It had been a big possibility, seeing as the other two kits in Oakpaw's litter - Pinepaw and Reedkit - had already joined StarClan.
"Does Honeystar have any kits or mate?" she asked inquisitively. "I can't seem to recall."

Icewhisker
- With - [Palesnow ; Sedgepaw ; Sagepaw ; Larkpaw ] - Location - [ Collecting Moss ] - Tag - [ ⭐ 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖈𝖍-𝖖𝖚𝖊𝖊𝖓 ]
Icewhisker was silently impressed with his own ability to maintain his cool and collected outer appearance despite his frazzled mind and heightened anxieties. He smirked to himself, knowing that if the roles were reversed and she had shown such impotent weakness he would have mocked her for it. As Palesnow replied, her pleasant voice (not that Icewhisker cared how her voice sounded) aided in easing his distress. Moreover, the conversation allowed his mind to step back from it's obsession of the darkness and step towards the direction of 'how can I make it clear I don't actually care about her apprentice?' Yet, despite his reservations to admit it, being named the mentor for a leaders kit was a grand gesture. Icewhisker's mismatched eyes narrowed as he made out Palesnow's frame in the twilight, he had been named an apprentice, then warrior, at the same time as she. Did Honeystar trust him as much as Ramstar clearly trusted Palesnow? When he couldn't immediately answer 'yes', he swept the thought from his mind.
"Aye, Sedgepaw will talk her ears off so much that Oakpaw would be too scared to step out of line again in fear of having to do more chores with her." Icewhisker rolled his shoulders, trying to rid himself of the knot of sheepishness in his chest as he realised he was building upon the banter that Palesnow had created the foundation for. Continuing quickly, he added, "Not that we will be hanging around for long." There was an uncertainty that crept into his voice as a rumble of thunder lingered in the distance.
Despite being hidden by shadows, the tom shook his head in response to Palesnow's question. "Honeystar, as far as I know, is more focused on her leader duties than frivolous things like mates and kits." The entitled sniff that accompanied his words indicated Icewhisker's agreement with such a philosophy. "It's only a distraction from ones duties if they become more concerned with love. I'd much rather think about how many pieces of prey I could bring home over who the cutest cat in camp is." His self righteous attitude continued as though there was any chance that a cat could feel romantically towards the arrogant tom. Icewhisker flicked his whiskers leisurely and drawled, "I'm sure you'll be putting down your warrior duties to go to the nursery soon enough, it's only natural-"
Behind them, a branch cracked. It was far enough away to not cause any harm to the two warriors or apprentices, however the sudden sound in the darkness caused Icewhisker to spring to his feet and dart behind Palesnow like a terrified kit. "What was that?!" His voice creaked as his anxieties - briefly forgotten - were increased tenfold. A reasonable cat would swiftly note it was a branch, and thus deduce that it was too far to harm them; a cat such as Icewhisker lacked such critical thinking.
