Palesnow
with [ Icewhisker & MireClan apprentices ] location [ ValleyClan territory ] [ @aether ]
Palesnow was about to correct Icewhisker on his extremely inappropriate and rude assumption that she would be heading to the nursery soon, when out of nowhere he startled and hid behind her like an apprentice who was out of camp for the first time. The branch creaking was something completely normal in the forest and, as such, Palesnow was completely unaffected by it. The only reaction she gave was a twitch of her whiskers, and that was more so at Icewhisker's cowering behind her. "I'm sorry, Icewhisker, what were you saying? It seems that the squirrels overhead are quite terrifying and scared you so badly that you stopped speaking mid-sentence! I completely understand, of course." Palesnow had barely turned her head around to taunt him, knowing that would annoy him even further.
Before Icewhisker even had the chance to defend himself, Palesnow whipped around so they stood nose to nose. "And don't you ever presume I am not just as much of a capable warrior as you are, if not a better warrior, just because my body has the ability to produce kits," she said in a low growl, her mood suddenly changing. Better to put him in his place early on so he doesn't make that foolish mistake again, she thought. "You have absolutely no idea what my intentions, goals, or ambitions are within my own clan and you had best remember that, especially while you are in my clan's territory." The quiet that followed Palesnow's snap was lethal, and contained Palesnow's rage. Luckily for Icewhisker, it was only a few moments later that the white she-cat heard the MireClan apprentices returning. Palesnow left Icewhisker with a glare that promised more to come if he tried her again.
"Sedgepaw, Sagepaw, Larkpaw, I better see your jaws full of moss, otherwise don't bother coming back to us," Palesnow called out.

The realization that it had been a branch in the distance and not a night-time monster trampling in the forest hit Icewhisker like claws slashing his muzzle. Palesnow's tone, spoken with words that oozed with a venomous taunt, were like stinging herbs to ease his wounds. Only his wounds were not eased, in fact, they felt as though they had been left in the sun to fester. He rose his head to defend his bruised ego against her squirrel comment, before he was able to begin formulating his words she whipped around and Icewhisker sunk back into his shoulders as she leaned in closely. The flare in her gaze was unlike any he'd seen before, not even when he pestered his seniors as an apprentice (he had certainly seen enough annoyed gazes to last him 9 lives). For the first time - perhaps in his life - he was stunned into silence. Her words were lost to him, but her gaze burned harsher than any Greenleaf sun, making him feel as though his pelt would combust and engulf him in flames. Her tone scared him more than anything. It growled with fury, low and threatening, but there was restraint to it as well; a restraint that Icewhisker did not want to investigate. A shiver down his spine told him that he wouldn't ever want to feel the full force of the molly. When she stepped back he did too, turning his head swiftly to lick his chest in an attempt to coddle his aching pride.
"Hrrf, ympf!" Came the muffled, indistinguishable words of Sedgepaw. Her paws thrummed on the earth, skidding to a halt affront Palesnow. She spat out the moss that she had clamped in her jaws and puffed out her chest proudly, "I collected the most!" She squeaked, not sensing the crackling tension between the two warriors. Larkpaw trotted pleasantly to Sedgepaw's side and purred, his eyes glimmering with handsome charm. He lowered his head and placed the moss at his paws before speaking.
"You only got so much because of your big mouth," he shouldered the calico molly teasingly, a purr in his throat made it clear his words were spoken in jest. Turning his head he watched as Sagepaw skittishly padded forward and he beamed at his brother, "That's great Sagepaw! You got a bunch too!" His praise did exactly as planned and eased Sagepaw, distracting him momentarily from his own uncertainty, though he didn't take the moss from his jaws to reply. Larkpaw turned back to Sedgepaw as she returned his playful teasing, however Sagepaw silently watched Icewhisker; taking notice of the way his shoulders were sunken sullenly.
Icewhisker rose to his paws and flicked his tail, his outer appearance clearly agitated. His mismatched eyes were narrowed to near slits, and his mouth appeared to curl unnaturally with a snarl. The three apprentices blinked at him apprehensively, waiting for the warrior to spill a wave of criticism upon them. Preemptively, Sagepaw lowered his head and flattened his ears.
However, Icewhisker did no such thing. He instead grumbled, hardly loud enough to hear, "Well if we are done, let's go." Before he turned and tread back towards the ValleyClan camp, following the scent trail they had left when the patrol had trekked to the moss place. His lean muscled twitched beneath his pelt, making it clear to anyone who could see that something had caused an upset, but his silence was bewildering to the three apprentices who had grown to know him for his snark remarks and desire to always have the last word.
"What's the matter with him..." Sedgepaw murmured precariously. Larkpaw shrugged and bent to collect his moss at his paws.

The white she-cat was better than Icewhisker at hiding her discomfort from the apprentices. Palesnow put on a strong, light-hearted façade and purred as the apprentices neared and began teasing each other about how much moss they had all gotten. And when Icewhisker set off on his own - no doubt ready to be done with the uncomfortable situation - Palesnow just flicked her ears and rolled her eyes. "He got spooked by a squirrel running across the treetops," she replied quietly to the Sedgepaw's question, "and is quite embarrassed about it." She let out a small mrow of laughter before trotting ahead of Icewhisker so that she could lead the way through her territory (even though their scent trail was still very strong and the MireClan tom was doing a fine job of following it).
Upon returning, Palesnow was relieved to see that the camp was somewhat calmer than it had been when they left. The elders were all huddled together, the warriors were making more space in the den, the queens and kits seemed to be getting along swimmingly, and the deputies and leaders of both clans were sitting together just outside of Ramstar's den. They certainly have a lot to discuss. "Since Ramstar and Honeystar are speaking, split the moss up between the three of you and take some to the elders and some to the queens. When you're done, you can get some fresh-kill and go back to the apprentices' den to rest up. You've had a long journey today," Palesnow said sympathetically.

Blinking, the three apprentices followed after the warriors, their expressions frozen with furrowed, perplexed gazes. When the patrol finally arrived back the camp after a quiet and uneventful return trip, Icewhisker seemed to melt away; disappearing back into the melding mass of MireClan cats without a 'goodbye' or 'well done'. The three apprentices were too much focused on Palesnow's instructions to notice, and they nodded dutifully before scampering off towards the elders den to distribute the moss.
Icewhisker maintained his frosty, irritated exterior. Later, when the commotion died down and cats began to curl up to rest - despite the breaking dawn - he found himself at the edge of the warriors den. On one side his littermate, Cypresstail, breathed peacefully, lulling quickly to sleep after an exhausting night disturbed by the storm. Icewhisker huddled on his paws, crouched precariously to avoid his nose sticking out too far and catching droplets that dripped from the den entrance. His wet coat remained plastered to his lean frame making him appear much smaller and pitiful, and his eyes were half-closed as he momentarily dozed in and out of a restless nap. He didn't know how long he crouched uncomfortably until he heard his voice called from outside the den. He snapped his eyes open and saw Ravenwhisker smiling at him, a sympathetic gleam in his eye.
*** The rain had yet to ease, so the clearing was free of any cat who could avoid it. After what felt like a moon of no rain and scorching heat, the earth had dried, creating a hard outer shell that refused to absorb the rain. Puddles formed around the camp, but the incline of the territory meant that nothing grew too big to be of concern.
"Palesnow!" The silvery voice came from Blackwing; one of MireClan's younger warriors. She'd earned her warrior name shortly after the likes of Palesnow and Icewhisker, but due to her closeness in age she had maintained a generally kind and pleasant relationship with Palesnow at Gatherings. In these uncertain times, Blackwing was enthused to have someone she was familiar with (outside of her own clanmates) in the strange camp. "Ravenwhisker asked me to go on a patrol down the valley to check the water levels. He asked me to find someone who would be familiar with the territory, would you be able to help?" She smiled sheepishly, not wanting to appear overbearing, "Only if you aren't busy already! The rest of the patrol is waiting outside the camp now." She turned her head and nodded towards the entrance. There was the obvious shape of Rabbitspots in the entryway, the spotted brown molly stretched leisurely despite the continuing rain that drenched her pelt. The rest of the patrol were concealed by the rocks and plants that secured the opening.

[ I messed up so here's the summary: Palesnow agreed to go on patrol with the MireClan cats so they would have someone to guide them around the territory. She likes Blackwing and wants to get to know her better. Palesnow walked up to where the patrol was waiting and saw Icewhisker again, and was immediately unhappy. Palesnow led the patrol out of the camp and into the territory and asked Rabbitspots - a well-respected warrior among all the clans - how she was doing and how training was going with Sagepaw. ]

Blackwing grinned at Palesnow's agreement and nodded deeply, "Thank you!" She spun and led the way to the patrol, each cat lifted their head at Palesnow's approach. Foxtuft dipped his head as she neared, meowing a polite greeting - he seemed uncomfortable and keen to get moving, likely missing the comfort and familiarity of his own territory and nest - though he did not appear unfriendly. Icewhisker averted his gaze, ignoring her approach. Lastly, Rabbitspots blinked warmly, waving her thin tail as a greeting. Naturally, as the patrol began moving each cat fell into position. Blackwing padded alongside Foxtuft, the pair murmured nothings to each other, trotting pleasantly. Taking the rear of the patrol, Icewhisker seemed strikingly quiet. His gaze was low and his brows furrowed, giving the impression that he was lost in thought. It was impossible to truly know what was going on in the sodden toms mind, but seemingly, he was sulking.
Rabbitspots took the lead with Palesnow, flicking droplets from her whisker, she smiled to the white warrior at her side as she began a casual conversation. "I've been doing very well," her voice was clear, exacerbating the idea that Rabbitspots was a warrior who was confident of her skill-set and talents; she was reliable. "Prey is running well in the valley, even when the marsh dries up somewhat." It was a persistent issue that neither BoskClan nor ValleyClan might ever consider, but the streams and brooks that flooded down to the marsh and kept it thriving would sometimes dry up in intense Greenleaf sun. After the intense rain, that clearly was no longer a problem. "And Sagepaw..." she tipped her head pensively, looking amused, "he sure is an interesting apprentice. He does perfectly normal in training, though he prefers to not stand out from the others. I feel as though he is always watching and calculating... I wonder if he'll surprise everyone one day." The inclination to her tone wondered questioningly despite no obvious inquiry being asked. Glancing back to the white warrior at her side, Rabbitspots added, "And you've been named a mentor to Ramstar's very own Oakpaw, you must be proud!"
Without much pause, the molly continued, clearly having other topics she desired to discuss. Her ears flicked backwards as she began, "I was meaning to ask. What's happened to Icewhisker? Ever since returning from collecting moss his not been himself, the only reason Ravenwhisker asked him to join the patrol was because he couldn't stand watching him sulk in the warriors den." Glancing over her shoulder quickly, she watched as Icewhisker paused his walking in order to shake water from his pelt. The droplets sprayed in all directions, causing the toms short pelt to stand on edge like a hedgehog. Soon, the rain began to flatten it once more. "He tends to be moody often, but usually he doesn't stay sullen for so long." She added, bemused.

Palesnow was a bit taken aback at the pace of conversation, but she tried her best to keep up with it and smiled all the while. She did enjoy speaking with Rabbitspots, even if she had to work harder to actually ingest everything she was saying. "The prey has been running well for us, too, so hopefully that will keep us all fed while you stay with us." It was a worry that was on every cat's mind. "And that's excellent to hear Sagepaw is doing so well. I'm sure that under your tutelage he'll flourish." Palesnow had beamed with pride with Rabbitspots mentioned her apprentice, and she beamed once again when she brought it back up. "Yes, Oakpaw is my apprentice. I am very gracious that Ramstar chose me to mentor his very own daughter. Sometimes, I'm fearful I might be scrutinized tougher than the other mentors, or that Oakpaw might get more leniency from Ramstar, but he truly treats us as just another warrior and apprentice. I couldn't have asked for much more.
"And Oakpaw," she continued, "well, she's something. She's doing well in training, but she is just so wily and ornery. There are days when I think her ears just need a good boxing from Wrenjaw or Robinwing." It was a half-jest. Palesnow then suggested that they have a joint training session while MireClan stayed in their camp, so that she might learn something from Rabbitspots's training style. And when it was time to discuss Icewhisker - why did so many cats seem to want to discuss Icewhisker with her? - she adopted a somewhat blasé look. "Nothing out of the ordinary happened on patrol. He did get very frightened by a squirrel passing overhead. I would wager a guess that he's just uncomfortable and more... on edge in our territory, which is foreign to him. I guess not all of you can adapt easily to it."

Rabbitspots listened as Palesnow attempted the mammoth challenge of processing all that she'd said and then reply to it. The tabby nodded, smiling kindly as they trekked further down the slope, her ears perked as she digested all that Palesnow mentioned. "Ramstar is very wise, I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing when he named you the mentor of his daughter." Her voice carried a purr. Her muscles bunched momentarily as she had to move from one rock to another to avoid stepping in some water run-off. "There are definitely times when mentoring when you feel as though you wish you weren't. But when they become warriors... it's all worth it." Her countenance lit up like a bright sun at the suggestion of a joint training sessions and she nodded vigorously, "I'll run that by the leaders. It would make for a wonderful way for the apprentices to think about their hunting and fighting techniques."
Of course, the conversation moved towards Icewhisker. It was easy to tell from the swift change in Palesnow's character that she was not delighted to be speaking about the tom. Whilst this intrigued the molly even further - why was Palesnow so agitated at the mere mention of Icewhisker? - she merely nodded and quietly murmured her reply, "I see." Though Rabbitspots knew Icewhisker better than Palesnow knew Icewhisker. The idea of a new territory was not an affair that would send the tom into a state of disarray. In fact, Rabbitspots would have expected the opposite. Why was Icewhisker not arrogantly inserting himself into each situation, stirring trouble and being unapologetic? Turning her green gaze ahead, Rabbitspots stifled an amused chuckle. Frightened by a squirrel... I see.
The conversation continued, changing to topics back to those that were not about the white tom, until the patrol neared the bottom of the valley.
When they would have once been able to make out MireClan landmarks before, they could not do so now. The grassy beds of the marsh were swallowed by murky, black water, whilst rocky boulders and shorter trees struggled to break through the pool that encompassed them. Concern shone through Rabbitspots features, mirrored by Blackwing and Foxtuft. "It's certainly a good thing we left when we did," the words came from Foxtuft, whose maw was slightly ajar with shock.
Icewhisker stared over the water with wide eyes. Only a few tail lengths away the water slapped and slurped at the slope, trying to climb higher and higher. A shivered ran down his spine eerily. Even after they could return, would the prey be there to catch?

Palesnow was glad to hear the praise that Rabbitspots lauded her with. It was one thing to hear from your own clanmates that you deserved to mentor the leader's kit, but it was completely different when a well-respected cat from another clan said the exact same thing. It also made Palesnow happy, and more comforted, to hear Rabbitspots's thoughts on mentoring difficult apprentices, as well as her agreeance on a joint training session. Palesnow suspected that the training session would be more helpful to her than to either of their apprentices, but nonetheless was excited about it.
The white warrior's pleasant mood continued as they travelled throughout the territory, but her heart quickly sank to her stomach when the party laid eyes on MireClan territory - or what used to be MireClan territory. The marshes the cats had previously called home were completely flood and unrecognizable. On a good, clear day, a cat could stand in the valley and see the marshes and bogs extended for what seemed like forever. Now, it just looked like one gigantic, foreboding lake. How is MireClan ever supposed to recover from this? What was StarClan thinking, sending such a deluge? Palesnow shook her head in disbelief. "I am so sorry," she murmured to no cat in particular.
The party's mood was somber and tense; anxiety rippled throughout all of the cats' pelts and their fur stood up on their necks and haunches. Palesnow, and the rest of the party, had hoped to return to the leaders with good news. Maybe the flood had already been absorbed by the ground, they had thought, or maybe the water had run off into a river or lake; but no. Their territory had been completely destroyed and covered by the intense rains. "We should return to camp and let Ramstar and Honeystar know about . . . this. We can hunt along the way, if you would like," Palesnow offered as she turned to face the four refugees.

The morale of the patrol fizzled like a flame in the rain. Rabbitspots, one who others often relied upon for her level-headed responses, was left looking crestfallen as she fluttered her gaze over the pool that swallowed her home. Palesnow's words were appreciated, though lost to the devastation of the situation. Blackwing flattened her ears on her skull, "Our home," her meow was like that of a small kits.
Thankfully, as Palesnow's continued composure pushed the patrol to continue moving and turn away from the scene before them. Rabbitspots looked at Palesnow and gave a small nod, still looking unsettled, "Right..." she murmured. Picking her way back up the slope, followed by Blackwing and Foxtuft, her mind seemed to drift to a far off place - lost in thought. Icewhisker waited a few moments longer, staring over the territory that he called home. With it now inhospitable, there was an undeniable feeling of... resilience. With so much on his mind already, this was the tip of the iceberg. He turned his head to watch his clan mates navigate up the slope and he felt the need to ameliorate their fears. Putting his own selfish reasons for appearing so sullen aside, Icewhisker picked up his pace and sprang forward.
"Palesnow has the right idea, let's hunt," his odd gaze flickered between each cat, "obviously we are going to be here for a little while, let's make sure everyone gets fed." Picking up his pace, he brushed past Blackwing and stopped by Rabbitspots rain-soaked side. A mix of bemusement and intrigue formed on the spotted tabby's countenance and she nodded slowly, meeting Icewhisker's gaze.
"I'll return to camp to let Honeystar know the situation so she can think of what we will do next. How about you four split off and hunt?" Finally regaining her composure, Rabbitspots looked from Blackwing and Foxtuft before settling her amber eyes on Palesnow.
Blackwing and Foxtuft nodded in unison, murmuring their agreement. Blackwing looked from Foxtuft to Palesnow, blinking apologetically to the other molly as she shifted closer to Foxtuft indicating her desire to hunt with the sandy ginger tom. The apology came from the fact that Palesnow would then be paired with, well, the cat she wasn't a fan of: Icewhisker.

Palesnow didn’t know what words of comfort she could offer to cats who had lost quite literally everything, so she tried her best to stay strong for them. She hoped that they would be able to take initiative from her and follow suit, but she didn’t expect Icewhisker to be the one that took the lead in that. She was shocked when he agreed with her suggestion to hunt and moved to the front of the group. Without saying anything, the white she-cat watched as Rabbitspots bounded off back to camp, and then watched Blackwing abandon her for Foxtuft. She caught the she-cat’s apologetic gaze and blinked in understanding - no one wanted to be paired with Icewhisker. Palesnow sighed to shake herself out of her stupor and turned to face the MireClan tom she loathed so much.
“Well, Icewhisker, I guess it’s you and me again. Do you have a preference for what we catch, or does it not matter? We could hunt near or in the river, in one of the valleys, in a field… I’m assuming you don’t want to go back into the forest.” Palesnow’s whiskers twitched as she teased Icewhisker about his frightening encounter with a squirrel earlier in the day.

Blackwing's short display of preference for the other warrior was not missed by Icewhisker, who turned his head and sniffed quietly, his pride mildly prodded at the situation. It's not that he wanted to hunt to Blackwing - in fact, he would rather hunt with Foxtuft - it was the apologetic way she'd looked at Palesnow. Icewhisker knew that Blackwing felt guilty at leaving Palesnow to hunt with him. He felt like a foolish apprentice, passed around by warriors who did not want to babysit him. Thankfully, the slim white tom made no fuss as the other two cats parted ways, and when Rabbitspots announced her departure he dipped his head and watched as her spotted tabby form diligently ascended the rocky slope towards the top of the valley. Finally, he was left with Palesnow.
He turned to face his companion when she began speaking. It would be expected that her comradely teasing was taken too much to heart by the hotheaded tom, which it was, and he rolled his eyes exaggeratedly. "StarClan help me," he muttered under his breath; as though Palesnow was the intolerable character in that scenario. With a flick of his head he gestured in the opposite direction that Foxtuft and Blackwing had walked, "What's over in that direction? I actually would rather avoid the forest... there's too much... stuff in there." The scents and sounds of the forest were overwhelming for the tom who was accustomed to open fields, marshlands, and sparse woodlands.
Without waiting for her reply, he was already stalking in the direction that he'd pointed towards. His coat twitched uncomfortably routinely as the misty rain continued to drench the earth and he flicked his whiskers to disperse the droplet that accumulated at the ends. "I run better in the fields, lets hunt there." Was his final verdict.

If Palesnow had understood that Icewhisker actually had feelings, she would have felt bad for the way Blackwing had avoided being paired with him. However, her past experiences with the white tom prevented her from thinking that he had any emotions besides negative ones aimed at her. He always seemed... icy, for lack of a better word, and his demeanor certainly had changed since his clan had come into her territory. Granted, it had been less than a day, but still... Palesnow didn't have much hope for him.
In fact, she was content to let him continue on the path he was on, but that would've been rather counter-productive to their hunting mission. "Actually, Icewhisker," she called out, not moving to follow him. Instead, she turned in the opposite direction and looked back over her shoulder at him. "The way you're headed, you'll wind up in the spooky forest again. The fields are this way." Palensow's whiskers twitched in amusement. "Perhaps you shouldn't assume you know everything."

Palesnow had such a poetic way with words; she knew exactly how to push all his buttons. Turning back around he stalked back towards Palesnow, retracing his steps. "The forest isn't spooky!" He snapped, "I don't get scared in the forest, I just don't like it," obviously he needed to clarify even though there was no point in trying to convince Palesnow. He'd soured any respect she could have had for him, yet foolish as he was he couldn't stand the idea of someone thinking he was weak. He scoffed, glancing at Palesnow from the corner of his eye as he surpassed her, "To think I felt bad for what I said last night," he muttered. It was true, he'd felt remorseful for his comments regarding her abilities and 'duties'. Upon reflection, he knew he went too far. Apologizing felt too personal, hence the fact he had not.
The rain was beginning to ease thankfully, the white tom felt uncomfortable and small with his coat plastered to his sides. "Where are the fields? Let's pick up the pace," his tail flicked. His ears twitched. His whiskers fluttered. He was antsy.

Palesnow
with [ Icewhisker ] location [ the fields ]
Palesnow had to work extremely hard to not outright laugh at Icewhisker's fear of the forest. If his clan was going to stay in her territory for an extended period of time - which, it looked like they were - he was going to have to get over that fear at some point. Maybe she could goad him into it. Or, she thought, I could have Thunderstep and Silverflame tease him about it until he had no choice but to go into the forest. Perhaps that's cruel, though... She would have to think on it some more. At present, she needed to focus on finding a good place to hunt with the mouse-brain that was accompanying her. "Oh, please. Don't act like you, of all cats, could ever feel remorse." Palesnow rolled her eyes and plodded on ahead, not bothering to see if he was following her.
After a short walk, the valley flattened out into softly rolling fields that were currently in full bloom. It was the middle of leaf-green, so the two cats were sure to find some good quarry. Palesnow realized how lucky both the clans were that such a deluge had taken place in the bountiful season, instead of in harsh leaf-bare when there would be scarce prey around. "Are you more comfortable here?" Palesnow said as her tail twitched in mild annoyance. While the fields had plenty of prey animals to be found, yes, there was likely even more in the forest. Though, she supposed they might've had issues hunting in the shadows - seeing as they were both completely white cats. "Would you rather attempt to hunt together or split up?" Palesnow knew what she preferred.

For a few heartbeats he considered simply wading into the flood waters to escape, though it was never a serious consideration. Sighing deeply, he trudged along behind Palesnow a few paces, moving quietly, uninterested in conversation. It was interesting to him as they traversed the terrain, it starting rocky and spare on the slopes, and moved into filled-in grassy lands. It feels more diverse than MireClan, he observed silently, they have a variety of choices when they hunt. He tilted his head thoughtfully, I wonder if they've ever eaten a frog. Yet, the thought of Palesnow being presented with a marsh frog made him feel like laughing; somehow he didn't think she'd be impressed.
As Palesnow's steps slowed to a stop, Icewhisker paused beside her and gazed around the rolling fields, almost in awe. There was always a sense of boundaries when hunting in MireClan, on one side there was the slope to BoskClan, on the other was ValleyClan; there was a strict and limited space that MireClan claimed. But here... "Yeah, this... will do." Here seemed endless, limitless. His aggravation and irritation appeared to have melted out of his paws and into the earth, leaving him awed. Of course, it was just a hunt and it was just a piece of ValleyClan territory - no doubt this was of no particular to Palesnow - however Icewhisker with fresh eyes saw the grand potential before them. He turned his attention back to Palesnow, "We should hunt together, right? One of us stalks a rabbit and sends it running right into the others paws," instinctively his claws flexed into the rain-softened earth. "Isn't that how you usually hunt here?"

Palesnow watched Icewhisker with a close eye as he studied the fields open before them, and was taken aback when he didn't insult her and her clan with a mean-spirited quip about the place. In fact, he seemed to have some sort of reverence for the meadows. She was still trying to recover from her shock when Icewhisker turned to her and started speaking. Palesnow had to literally shake her head to rein herself in. "I'm sorry, what was that?" she asked sheepishly, embarrassed that she hadn't been the perfect warrior with her senses on full alert. "You were saying something about hunting a rabbit together?" Palesnow decided to tease Icewhisker to hide the fact that she hadn't been listening. "Who are you and what have you done with the fox-hearted tom from MireClan I hold so dear to my heart?"

Icewhisker blinked at Palesnow flatly and sighed deeply, rolling his eyes in an exaggerated motion. A wave of heat curled over and crashed under his pelt; he was embarrassed. It seemed his guard had dropped and she noticed, that teasing tone she always had was clear as day in her voice. Flicking his tail, he briefly cleared his throat, "Fox-hearted? Why, no need to be so endearing," he replied sarcastically. "If you're going to be difficult about it I'll just go hunt on my own." He shook his coat to ease his embarrassed need to fidget and stalked forward a few paces. A heartbeat later, he paused and turned his head back, clearly his last sentence had been a bluff as he proceeded to add, "Come on, we're hunting rabbits. I'll chase, you catch. Do you know how to do that? Or are you going to say more nice things about me?"

Palesnow copied Icewhisker and rolled her eyes. This tom was insufferably arrogant. "Icewhisker, I would love nothing more to see you attempt to hunt my clan's prey in my clan's territory." The two clans had vastly different terrains, and so the types of prey were undoubtedly just as varied. Palesnow sincerely doubted he would be able to successfully hunt and catch a rabbit without the assistance of a ValleyClan cat. "You dream of me saying nice things to you and stroking your ego. Unfortunately for you, those nice things are reserved for another cat." It was a bluff, but still - it was a good retort in Palewhisker's mind.
The white she-cat moved a few paces ahead before settling into the grass and looking up at the odd-eyed tom. "Go on, then. Find us a rabbit."
