maybe football practice?)
"No they are easier than you think." Kyle spoke, looking at her. "Things have gotten easier in the past few years." He didn't want to tell her how hard it could be sometimes. He didn't want her to feel bad for something she couldn't control.

Lilian tipped her head to the side, "I know it is difficult to get these books, I've tried to order many of them myself." She said simply, turning her head to face the desk again, Heidi whining at her feet. "But, difficult is the name of the game I guess. Braille is a dying art, ever since audiobooks came out. Jeez, there are a lot of blind people out there that can't even read braille, which is kinda sad in my opinion." She said with a weak smile, leaning down to pat Heidi on the head. "I'm a med student who can't see, difficult is my goal."

(If its practice, I'll have to duplicate Cedar since he's also on the team, but that's alright with me. My football terms and stuff may be sloppy, so bear with me lol.)
"Alright! Line up!" Celous walked out onto the field with a clipboard in his hand. He didn't even give the players a look over as he flipped through the pages. "This ain't camp anymore, kids. So, take a good look around." He stopped and finally looked up from the clipboard. "Everyone you see on this field today is your teammate!"
"Wait, is he serious?" Ashton looked at his brother, keeping his tone low. There was less than half the people here that attended football camp and all the bigger, stronger guys...where were they?! "This can't be the team. The guys here are wimps."
Cedar shook his head and shrugged. "Hey, I'm just as surprised as you are."

Sadie was standing off to the side of the practice, shifting from foot to foot. She was nervous but kept telling herself she wanted to do this. She wanted to finally get over her anxiety about it and join the Football team. She moved to jog over towards the players and coaches. “Coach skye!” She said as she slowed to a stop.
Kyle nodded as he listened to her. “Yea I suppose Braille isn’t as important anymore cause of audiobooks.” He agreed. “Are you not a fan of listening to books?”

Celous glanced over. "Miss. Silex, you're late!"
"Late?" Ashton chuckled and nudged his brother, some of the other players snickering around him. With one look at the girl, he pegged her for a Sports Med student. "Like we need a babysitter during practice."
"I don't think I know her." Cedar crossed his arms as he studied the girl. "Long legs though, bet she's on the soccer team."
Ashton rolled his eyes. "Then what's she doing here?"

Sadie nodded her head. “Sorry.” She put her hands on her hips before glancing to her right towards Ashton and Cedar. She heard Ashton’s comment and a flash of nervousness went through her before pushing it down. She couldn’t be nervous, not anymore. “I’m the new kicker.” She told him.

"I use hearing to function through a lot of my day. I find it difficult to function if I am distracted by listening to a book." Lilian explained, reaching up to run a hand through her hair. "Like right now, I could not hold a conversation and listen to a book, but I can hold a conversation and read braille at the same time." She said with a small smile, thinking about it. "Audiobooks are useful, don't get me wrong, but there is a time and a place for them, and I have found that reading braille is often more beneficial. It doesn't help that I am almost totally blind either, so I can't see anything but vague light and shadows-- and even that is iffy at best-- which means I can't really get a sense of my surroundings without Heidi."

Kyle listened to her talk about her issues and preferences when it came to books. He supposed he never thought of it in the way she explained it. I mean why would he? He wasn't blind and didn't understand the difficulties. "That makes sense, when your rely on hearing all day you just want to do something in the quiet." He spoke. Kyle looked at Heidi. "Yea I bet she is a big help to you. Have you had her a long time?"

Cedar started. "I'm sorry, what?"
"A girl?!" Ashton stared at Sadie in shock. He looked at his father. "You're putting a girl on the team?"
"I'm putting the best kicker who tried out on the team." Celous matched his son's stare. "Anyone who disagrees with me, runs thirty laps." He motioned to the track and even Ashton shut up. Celous turned to Sadie. "This is your only warning. Tardiness is unacceptable on this team. Be late again and you'll be staying after practice running laps or doing other drills." He looked to the team. "Head to the locker rooms and gear up! From now on, when you come to practice, you come in your gear! Understood?!"
"Yes, sir!" The team responded. Cedar hit Ashton on the shoulder then motioned toward Sadie. Ashton rolled his eyes and followed. "I'm Cedar Skye," Cedar held his hand out to Sadie in greeting. "Quarterback. This is my brother Ashton, he's on the offensive line." Ashton only grunted in reply, his expression clearly unapproving of Sadie.

Echo arched her eyebrow at him and shook her head, “We’ve been over this already, Shard. You know why.” She said, locking the door and turning the open sign to closed. “You go to school. Get your degree, then you can decide what you want to do with your life. And besides, you have to have a tattoo license to work here.” Echo pulled the blinds down over the windows and turned back to her brother, “Come on, let’s go to the store, we’ll grab some groceries for dinner tonight.” for you Fox)

Damien said a quiet "Thanks" before hurrying over towards the textbook section. Now that he was alone, he let out a sigh. Talking to people with Petal around had been so much easier. Without her, he just felt lost. Pulling out his phone, he opened the list he had made with his books and began to make his way down the aisle in search of the author's last names. Vance stepped inside the store fully and let the door swing shut behind him. He figured since he was already there, he might as well stay instead of going home only to turn around and go back. He looked around the store, wondering if Kyle was in.

"Heidi? Actually I just got her a couple years ago. My last guide dog retired from age." Lilian explained, smiling lightly, "He lives with my parents now, still as gentle of a soul as ever."

Sadie opened her mouth to snap back at Ashton when Coach Skye spoke up. She turned away from the brothers to look at the couch. She nodded her head to him. "Yes Sir." She moved to go towards the locker room when Cedar stepped up towards her. She hesitated a moment before taking his hand to shake. "Sadie." She replied to him. "Nice to meet you both." The nice was a lie but she didn't want to make more of an issue.
"Yea but if you'd just teach me then I could get a license." Shard looked at his sister before hopping off the counter. "Then college wouldn't be an issue anymore." He smirked at his sister.

"Never had a girl on the team before, but as long as you can kick, we've got no beef." Cedar started walking towards the locker rooms. "What made you want to join the team?"
"I think you're a little too soft to be on it." Ashton frowned at Sadie, having seen the way she hesitated to take Cedar's hand. "The moment you get hit, your bones will break."

Lilian smiled a bit, "My parents love him to death." She said, glad she was lucky enough to have the best adopted family. She knew nothing of her biological parents, but that was fine, she didn't care. She was able to go to a good school, get a guide dog at a young age, and even pursue her medical dreams. "Heidi loves when we visit, that's ultimate break time for her and she has someone to play with." She laughed softly, wondering what that did look like.

Echo smirked back at him and grabbed her keys, “Maybe I’ll teach you if you finish college first. Or at least reach your senior year, then we’ll talk.” She said, leading the way out of the shop and waiting for him to follow so she could lock the door behind her.

Sadie followed them towards the locker room. She looked at Ashton, "I play soccer so I'm used to some contact." She spoke. "And kickers don't get hit too often so I think I'll be ok." She looked at Cedar. "I played football with my dad and brother growing up and its something I've always wanted to try."
Kyle smiled and nodded. "I grew up with dogs and they were always excited when another dog came to visit." He agreed. "You'll have to bring him in sometime." He spoke.

Cedar raised an eyebrow and exchanged a glance with Ashton. "Did you at least play in High School?"
Ashton groaned. "Don't tell me dad just threw her on the team because she's the first girl that said 'I wanna play football!' I bet administration made him do this!" He stopped in front of Sadie. "But you're not going to last a week."

Lilian blinked and turned to face him again, her head tipped a bit. "Really? I mean, he's not a guide dog anymore, most places frown on dogs entering the premises." She said as she faced him, though her gaze was off to the side, not quite sure where exactly he was. (It is hard to remember that she can't really "stare" at anyone...)

Sadie shook her head. “No I didn’t play in high school.” She looked at them. “But I know how to play. It’s not that hard of a game.” She spoke before looking towards Ashton. “The administration had nothing to do with this. I got on cause I was the best kicker who tried out.” Sadie stopped when Ashton got in front of her. “Besides I bet I can kick better than you.”
“Not my place.” Kyle spoke. “We’re pretty animal friendly here. As long as the animal is trained.” He glanced around. “We actually have a store car. Well it’s my cat who likes to come to work with me.”

Cedar fumbled a frown on his face but didn't respond to Sadie. It didn't seem fair that Coach Skye would choose Sadie to be the team's kicker over all the guys who played their hearts out in High School to join the team. I hope dad knows what he's doing. He couldn't imagine all the furious parents that probably called when they found out a girl who never played before got on the team over their own sons.
"I'm on the offensive line." Ashton crossed his arms. "I don't kick. I don't care if you're the best kicker. You didn't play in High School, you've never been on a team before. You don't deserve to play at the University level."

"Well, Cooper might not be as trained as well as he used to be, but he still knows how to behave in stores." Lilian said with a small smile as she thought about it. She hadn't walked with her former guide dog in quite a while, but she'd likely have to have her mother or father come with her and bring Cooper along. She was fairly certain the university would not take to kindly to a non-work pet in the dorms.

Sadie frowned at Ashton as he spoke. She crossed her arms over her chest. “So what if I didn’t play in high school? I thought it only mattered if you were good. I’m sure lots of kids who play in high school get cut cause they aren’t good.”
Shard looked at his sister, gaze softening. “Yes I know.” He spoke. “I just like to give you a hard time sometimes.”
Kyle nodded, leaning against the table. “I’m sure he’s still a good boy.” He spoke. Just as a spoke, a ginger and white cat jumped up on the table, moving to brush against kyle. “Speaking of cats.” He said. “Guess who joined us.”

Heidi looked up, appeared uninterested, and rested her muzzle on her paws again. Lilian heard the paws land on the table and tipped her head some, moving her head as if she was attempting to find it. "Cat?" She said, knowing he just said there was a store cat, which if she remembered correctly there was a cat café already. She held her hand out, not trying to actively touch the cat in case it didn't like that.

"Well, yeah, a lot of kids are cut in high school, but those that aren't shoot for this university to play at!" Ashton rolled his eyes. This girl just didn't get it, did she? "Those that played in High School played for scholarships to get here or at other universities. They endured hours of practice, they worked hard, they may even be trying to go pro." Ashton hardened his gaze on her. "And something tells me you're not trying to go pro which means you're taking a position that's useless too you when someone else needs it to chase their dream!"
Cedar glanced from his brother to Sadie and back again. He took a deep breath and just pushed his way into the men's locker room. He didn't want to openly admit that he agreed with his brother.

Sadie just rolled her eyes at him. "Well sometimes tell me if they got beat by a girl," She said girl in a voice attempting to mock Ashton's way of saying it earlier. "Who has really no experience, then they aren't going pro, nor do they deserve a scholarship." She turned away from the boy to head into the girls locker room. She wasn't going to back down and quit. She wasn't going to prove him right.

Kyle moved to push the cat towards her hand. "Go on." He urged the cat. The cat moved to sniff Lilian's hand a moment. She then began to purr and push her head into her hand, rubbing along her hand. "Her name is Goose." Kyle spoke.
