"Ah... Well - not really..." Winter laughed nervously, giving Chervil an embarrassed look. She thought she must look like such a weirdo right now, it made her heat up, bashful. "But, I have a feeling I might be able to do something." She answered vaguely.
Winter looked sheepishly to the starry cat, but she only looked calmly at her, with her slate grey eyes that looked like moons. The blue molly turned her gaze to Adder and nodded, giving him a little smile. "Sure I can help." She mewed cheerily. Winter peeked closer at the scratches and scrapes across his fur, they looked a little rough - certainly not something she would want. The spirit loomed over, flicking their tail slowly as they observed the wounds. They're not too bad... But, there are things nearby to help treat him. You don't want to risk these wounds getting infected. He needs chervil.
Chervil? What will he do? Winter cast a look back to the lanky black tom in confusion. The spirit gave a hearty 'mrrow' of laughter, shaking her head. No, the plant - chervil. She flicked her starry tail over to the patch of ferns. Winter tilted her head curiously, she had no idea that chervil shared the name of a plant. Chervil looks a lot like a fern, but it will have white flowers blooming on it. Go find some, and pick some of their leaves. Just a couple should do it. Her voice echoed. Winter snapped her attention back to Adder. "Just a minute!" She mewed enthusiastically. With confidence in her step, the blue shecat bounded over to the ferns and spotted some of the white flowers blooming from it. Perfect! She gently bit at one of the stems of the leaf and pried it free, turning back to the group with the leaves in tow.
Good. Chervil is good for disinfecting wounds. Now, gently chew the leaves while leaning over the wounds - the juice in the stems will drip down into the wound. The spirit guided. But... Won't it taste bad? Winter frowned. It will have a sort of bitterness to it... But, I'd best get used to the taste little one. The ashen spirit purred.
Winter let out a tiny exhale of frustration through her nose and moved over to Adder. "Ok... I'm just going to lean over you and chew these leaves - ok?" She sounded slightly unsure of herself. Gently, she leaned over the bigger tom, holding the leaves in place with her paws as she chewed at the stem. The juice hit her tongue instantly, it was sour and bitter - making her face scrunch up. But she continued to chew until the juice over poured and dripped down into Adder's cuts and scrapes. When she felt she had gotten to all of them, she pulled back and spat the leaf out, face still contorted in disgust. "Yech!" She spat.
You've done well - you'll be a good student. The spirit mused, and with that, she gave a little wink to her next pupil, and faded away, leaving only a small trail of ash that wasn't there on the ground before. Winter blinked, shaking herself back to reality and looking up at Adder. She seemed to beam at him. "Th-There! I think that's good." She said, a little more sure of herself.
It was then that Whisp had darted into the undergrowth, catching Winter by surprise and making her jump nearly out of her pelt! She emerged from the ferns shortly after with two plump, dusky brown bodies swinging in her jaws. Winter's eyes widened. "Whoa! You caught those?!"

(I'm California so it's 11:30, it's just my habit to say morning before 12 ) Adder watched in interest and mild consternation as Winter darted away, tilting his head as she knelt next to some ferns and gnawed off the stems. The tom had heard that some of the plants in the forest could be used to heal wounds, but he had never had the confidence to risk trying any of them, especially when he didn't know what any of them were. Nevertheless, he hold very still as Winter kneeled over him and began to trickle the juices into his cuts. He hissed slightly at the sudden hot stinging, unused to the sensation, but he resisted the urge to jerk away. Instead, he forced himself to sit stil until Winter had finished. Once the initial sting was gone, the scratches seemed to feel a bit better. "Thanks." He meowed, dipping his head to the smaller she-cat in gratitude. "If it starts to hurt, I'll let you know." His amber eyes glowed with curiosity. "How do you know so much about healing? I thought twolegs took kittypets to the cutter when they were ill?" He asked. Thankfully, Winter was spared from replying with the timely reappearance of Whisp, carrying two mice, and Adder turned around. "Those look great!" He purred. "Nice catch!" Whisp was perceptive and smart, and clearly a good hunter, too. Adder couldn't help but be impressed.

((Makes sense lol ))
A smile spread across her face when once again Winter became surprised by the two mice that she plopped down before them. "Of course, and if you're going to live in the wild then you will have to learn to hunt as well. It might be a bit challenging since you dont have claws, but I'm sure that you could master it." Whisp gave Winter and encouraging muzzle to the flank and pawed a mouse over to her. "Here get that nasty taste out of your mouth with this", she meowed offering her a mouse. "You and Chervil can share that one, and Adder and I can share the other", she mewed stepping back and casting a warm gaze to the grey tabby tom. ((He's a grey tabby right? I cant seem to remember what he was))
Cream and white tail swooshing back and forth lightly the shecat turned and settled in a nice soft patch of grass next to Adder. "Winter have you ever had fresh prey before?", she questioned curiously as she nosed the second mouse over to Adder for him to eat first. Whisp wanted to see Winter take her first bite of warm prey, in her mind it made upwalker food pellets taste like dirt.

Fern walked slowly beside the tom, drawing in the scents of the forest around them. Her ears twitched towards Lichen when he asked her the question and she thought about whether she should tell him her story. Deciding it didn't matter whether he knew where she came from, she answered. "I grew up in the two-leg place. Not as a kittypet. My mother taught me how to find food that the two-legs throw out." She paused, warm thoughts of her mother filling her memory, before continuing. "After my mother was gone I decided to move to the forest. I have to say, I like it much better."
Chervil watched Winter with a mildly confused expression as she told Adder she could help with his scratches. She padded to the ferns and picked out a plant, coming back to chew it over the wounds so the juices dripped onto the tom's skin. His head tilted, watching the young she-cat as she finished and spat out the leaf. He couldn't contain his mrrow of laughter at her disgusted expression, whiskers twitching and tail waving as he watched. "Does it taste nasty?" He teased, eyes twinkling. He would hardly appreciate leaves being in his mouth. He had to agree with Adder, wondering where she learned it from. He suspected house cats weren't exposed to plants and herbs too often. He turned his head as Whisp emerged with two mice she'd caught. "Nice catch, Whisp!" He purred, reminded that he hadn't eaten since the night before. His earlier hunting was interrupted when he heard Winter's cries for help. He blinked warmly towards the she-cat in thanks as she tossed one in Winter's direction, reaching out and snagging it with a claw, pulling it close to himself. He settled down, tucking his paws under his chest and glancing once again towards Winter. "Come and do mine. Then you can share the mouse with me." He suggested, nodding his head towards the minor scratches littering his own skin. He also had the bite on his tail that she could look at. Hearing Whisp's question, he added his own comment as he thought of sinking his teeth into the warm meat. "I bet you'll like the fresh prey better than the pellets they give you."

(Yup striped gray tabby, amber eyes ) Adder let out a soft purr as he padded over to sit beside Whisp. It had been an eventful day, and he was glad of the chance to relax and unwind for a bit. The brambles provided adequate cover against the wind, and he was sure they could be reinforced to make the clearing even warmer. He leaned down and took a bite of the mouse, letting the juicy taste wash across his mouth before chewing, nosing the fresh-kill over to Whisp.

"A twoleg place?!" This had definitely come as a surprise for Lichen. He would have never expected that she would would have been from there. "I've only even known life in the forest and moorlands. The idea of being so close to twolegs and dogs is scary, definitely something I would avoid at all costs." Catching her words about Fern losing her mother made the toms ears flatten sympathetically. He knew all too well what it was like to loose someone close. Instead of asking about the loss of her mother Lichen chose to take a different route. "What was your mother like? As sad as it is to say I have little to no memory of mine, its customary for queens to give their kits away to a trusted friend to raise and teach the ways of the wild. By the time my sister and I were old enough to survive on our own it had been moons since we had heard from her..."
((I'll wait for Winters reply before I post for Whisp again))

Fern felt her pelt burn, embarrassed at the tom's reaction. She knew the stigma that most wild cats had associated with the twoleg place and kittypets. "When you grow up there you learn your way around. It's not that hard to outsmart the twolegs and dogs - they can be pretty dumb." She explained with a slight twitch of her whiskers. "But you do have to be careful. Food can be scarce, so you're also in constant competition with the other cats living there." When she was asked about her mother her expression brightened, a low purr rumbling in the tortoiseshell's throat. "My mother was the best. She was strong and brave, and she knew her way around everything. She was an old queen, I would have been her last litter and I didn't have any littermates, but she wasn't frail and helpless. She always protected me." She hesitated before going on, her ears flattening back a little bit as she finished the story. "A raccoon attacked us one night and her wounds got infected... She showed me how to treat it with some plants from a garden, but it was too late." She thought back to the yellow flowers she'd put on Lichen's wound. She was glad they grew in the wild as well, as the flowers from the two-leg garden were the only things she knew how to use. She couldn't imagine having grown up without the company of her mother and she wondered if Lichen wished he'd known his.

Hearing about her life in the twoleg place made Lichen all the more thankful for having never been there. When Fern continued on about her mother, the tom could sense a deep love well within her and for a moment the tabby felt a tinge of jealousy. The ONLY cat he had ever felt that for was his sister, who was no longer here. He was all alone. But then again from what she said so was she. Hope sparked within the wild tomcat, remembering his sisters words from his dream and looking at the pretty shecat before him. He was only alone if he chose to be, and right now in this moment he was not alone. Neither of them were, and though strangers to each other still there was no longer a void of emptiness where a friend once stood.
"Your mother sounds like a beautiful soul, may you meet again one day", he meowed dipping his head and then casting his gaze upwards towards the setting sun. "But until then could you be so kind as to find me some more cobwebs?" All this time walking and talking not even he had noticed that the wound on his flank had begun to bleed again. Having soaked through the cobwebs that she had applied earlier, blood was now dripping down his pelt and onto the forest floor in tiny little droplets.

Winter dipped her head respectfully to Adder, wiping a paw at her muzzle, tasting the juice that still lingered there. Her eyes were warm, giving off the feeling of "don't mention it." Thankfully, she didn't have to tell him why exactly she knew so much about herbs. The small blue molly was still pretty embarrassed about the whole 'seeing starry cat' thing anyway. She didn't want to give off the impression that she was crazy. She had just sat down when Whisp had tossed the mouse their way, Chervil easily catching it with the flip of a claw. "Thanks! U-uh- ah - but no I haven't had fresh prey before." Her tufted ears wilted and she looked down.
At Chervil's words, she perked up a bit and moved over to the lanky black tom. She did a quick check of him as they spoke, taking a moment to respond as she seemed to chew her words carefully. "Oh, the pellets my owners gave me weren't so bad! They were a little dry, but you sort of get used to the taste after a while." She combed a paw through his dark fur gently to get a better look, before moving onto his tail. She noticed the sizable bite out of it, and frowned. "And I had access to it all day every day! It was... Nice, if a bit pampering." She admitted, pulling back.
She cast a look around the clearing as if she was looking for something, or someone. Huh... Are you there? She thought, her voice echoing in her head. She looked for the spirit, but there was nothing, no one. Not even a stray voice to answer her. Winter tried again. What do I do...? Do I use the chervil again? Nothing answered. Winter frowned deeper, a bit worried at the silence. But maybe surely, the chervil would work again. She padded towards the same chervil plant and took another one of it's fanny leaves, repeating the same process on Chervil. She once again spat out the leaf when it was over, rolling her tongue across her mouth in disgust.
"Thank you for the offer, but I'm not really hungry." Winter admitted, nestling beside Chervil anyway. It was a lie, of course - Winter hadn't eaten since she'd started her journey. But, the thought of eating something that was once alive made her stomach churn. She eyed the dead mouse, trying to see it as a source of food, and not a once living thing - but it was hard to make the disconnect. Deep inside some base instinct wanted to, but she tried to fight it. "I'll get a bite later! Maybe when I can catch my own, if you could show me." She mewed, looking up to Whisp with a bright smile, her tail curling. In earnesty, she hoped that time would never come.

(( that's a nice idea. Fern already has a habit of spying xp )) Fern looked at him with a warm smile, but it quickly faded as he brought attention to his wound which had started to bleed once again. "Lichen! The infection's going to come back." She meowed, tail thrashing a bit. The last thing she wanted was for him to get an infected wound that wouldn't heal, the very way her mother was taken. She glanced around and padded over to a tree trunk, inspecting the jumble of roots near the base. Sure enough, there were quite a few cobwebs. She wrapped them carefully around her paw and hopped back to Lichen's side. "Don't move," The tortoiseshell ordered before she gently applied the cobwebs over the old ones to stop the blood from leaking through. She wasn't sure whether she should have removed the others first but it would be fine. Once she was done she began to gently lick the brown tabby pelt around it, cleaning up the blood, but then she had the realization that he was more than capable of doing that part himself. She took a step back, ears burning.
Chervil was a bit surprised when she declined the food. Just the smell of the freshly killed mouse was enough to make his own jaws water. He knew she must have been hungry - she'd said she was in that tree for a while - all night, if he was remembering correctly, so she hadn't had a meal for a fair length of time. He decided not to pressure her though. She could have just been nervous to try her first bit of fresh-kill or maybe she just didn't like to eat in front of others. "Alright then," He meowed, gently to ensure her he wasn't offended that she declined the offer. When she settled behind him and began to use the same leaves on his scratches that she used on Adder he did his best not to move but he couldn't help fidgeting a little bit. It felt weird to have her chewing over his body and dripping leaf juice onto him. He took a bite of the mouse, trying to distract himself, and was able to relax when she finished. "Thank you," He purred before filling his mouth with another bite.

Adder was perceptive, and he noticed the slight flicker of discomfort that passed through Winter's eyes as she looked at the mouse, before declining it. Surely you didn't expect to find twoleg pellets out here? He thought in amusement. He decided not to mention it. After all, the young she-cat had done well in healing them, though he did wonder what she planned to do if she wasn't up to eating fresh-kill. Instead, he bent down to take another succulent morsel, satisfying the rumbling in his own stomach. "Thankfully hunting is still good." He meowed between mouthfuls.

Winter rested her head on her paws, laying beside Chervil. Her long blue fur just barely tickling against him whenever the wind blew. She quietly drank in the serenity before them. With the sun setting, it cast an array of lights through the bramble patch and against the grass beneath them. The air smelled so clean, and the feeling of the wind inn her fur was something that she didn't think she'd enjoy so much. Her sapphire eyes calmly looked between the three cats before her. They were a team now, people she could trust. There was a sense of togetherness that Winter hadn't felt since she was a kitten, back when she knew her family. It was a nice feeling, a warm one. It was a sense of belonging.
Not one to sit in silence, Winter quickly chimed in with the first thought that hit her. "Hey! We should like, give ourselves a team name!" She perked up a bit, tail swishing back and fourth. "If we're all a team now, we should name ourselves! Like, the buddy buccaneers, or the Killer Crew! Or... The Quad-ra...hegion...? ... ... GANG?"

Lichens tabby tail twitched in amusement when Fern just at the realization that he wound had reopened. "Will you ever get tired of scolding me like a kit?" His tone sharp but not agressive. Inwardly the tom enjoyed her attitude, reminded him much of his sister.. but not too much cause that would be weird. Patiently, he held perfectly still and allowed her to apply some more cobwebs. Only did his ears flick and that was due to a bug who flew too close. Lichens green eyes watched her tediously finish up and then begin to lick the blood away. She was thorough, he would give her that. When she pulled away shyly Lichens white whiskers twitched in amusement, she sure was something. "Should we head back, the sun should be setting soon. I would hate for that owl to come back to get me for taking that plump mouse from him", he joked trying to make up an excuse to call it a night. Now that they had come to a stop his should had begun to throb again.. maybe this walk wasn't the best of ideas.
