Thank you so much for the offer Glory! You have honestly been such a great help so far! I'd love to see what your list looks like, for reference if nothing else. cx
That idea is really cool too, I like that it makes them more connected to StarClan in a way, like it keeps their ancestors more involved in clan life. I find a lot of times with clan drama StarClan gets kinda shoved to the side but remembering your ancestors is important. ^^
A clan gathering sounds cool, with little games and challenges. They could make quite a day out of it, almost like a festival of some sort. I don't know what winners would get, aside from bragging rights, but I still like the idea. c:
Okiedokie Rain, if you're sure!

Alright, awesome! I suppose, with the rules, we would have to figure out what we would like to enforce, and what we would allow. Personally, I don't allow people to join as queens or kits, as the queens are often killed off in favor of the kit, while the kit... the orphaned kit deal can get a little spotlight-y, so I try to avoid it.
I'm all here for a clan holiday, too.

Honestly, I kind of agree with you - though I have joined as a queen before. Then people are searching for mates and such when I find it much more fun to build a relationship up, if that makes sense? I don't necessarily have a dislike towards people joining with queens but when they die and abandon their kits, I agree, it does become spotlight-y. Which is hilarious because I can't tell you how many back stories I have for my characters where their mothers just up and die after childbirth. cx But it's different putting it in a history than actually role playing it, and as me and Rainy have recently found out, even as a history it can become over done a bit too much.
Everyone seems down for a clan festival, or holiday, which is pretty cool! I imagine they collect a bunch of prey the day before and kits, queens and elders are even invited to the spot - wherever that is, probably the main beach I assume?

I totally agree about spirituality being put on the back burner. In my most successful clan, I actually stated that the clan as a whole lacked a lot of belief in starclan which was made relevant by the fact that they were a new clan and had different beliefs before. This also allowed me to have a great plot that focused on coming together as a clan and stuff and it was great. Anyway Here is the link to the rules for my most successful clan. My rules are the same for all my clans and I've had three out of five clans be pretty successful. I also have the rules located further down the page to encourage people to read. You'll also notice I included the phrase "I don't bite" alot. That's my "password" because I don't like "if you read the rules, post apple in your form" or "password= sausage" because people tend to skim through for those key words. wcrpforums.com/post/2275909/thread

I am usually fine with queens joining with kits but what irks me is when it's an abandoned or orphaned kit

Tropical Herb List Gumbo-limbo - these trees are thick trunked canopy trees with red, constantly peeling bark. They grow near the two-leg village and were once tapped, giving the cats access to the resin within. This can be used topically to help with rashes, sores, and insect bites. Soursop - a tree which bears large green fruits. The medium sized leaves can be harvested and chewed into a pulp that is useful as an anti-inflammatory. It's great for back-pains and joint problems. Sometimes will be used to fight infections. Noni - the fruits of this particular tree smell awful, like stale sweat almost. The plant grows both by the shores and deep in the jungle. The juice or even the fruits in severe cases can be taken to help with stomach and intestinal issues. When applied topically it can also be an anti-inflammatory. Snakewood - a hollow trunked tree with massive leaves and a thin, worm-like fruit - which is adored by birds and bats alike. The leaves when chewed into a pulp are used as a cure for snakebites and rashes. The fruits can also be turned into a pulp which is used to combat sore-throats, colds, and can even be used as a mild calming agent. Gavilana - is a large leafy herb that grows in the tropics, that is rather bitter. The leaves can be chewed up and placed on wounds to help battle infection. Sleeping Lady - these plants are sensitive and close when touched, which are where the name comes from. This is great for calming cats and inducing sleep, often used to treat insomnia, depression, and panic-attacks. Also good for calming muscle spasms and nerve pain. Aloe Vera - Dark green, mostly stem-less plant with long, thick fleshy leaves that fan out from the center. Filled with soothing gel that is great for treating burns and skin irritations. Anise - Tall plant with yellow or white flowers and oblong shaped fruit. The fruit is great for treating snake bites. Basil - Tall plant with large, dark green leaves and small, white flowers. It's a catch-all type of herb that medicine cats keep regularly stocked as it helps ease stomach spasms, gas, and colds. It can also help with a loss of appetite and regulate blood circulation. Nursing mothers often take basil after kitting to improve their milk production. Brahmi - It has small flowers that are light purple or white in color with no more than four or five petals. It has a bitter and sweet taste. It is great as a memory enhancer and can relieve anxiety. It also promotes sleep, strengthens the immune system, relieves arthritis pain, reduces swelling, and helps with dry skin. Coriander - The small tan seeds of a small plant with asymmetrical pink flowers. The seeds can be ingested to boost the immune system and fight infections. Cinnamon Bark - Peeled from the trunk of a sharp smelling evergreen, this bark is great for reducing spasms, reducing fevers, and stimulating appetite. Clove - The flowering buds from an evergreen with small white flowers. Cloves are usually used to treat cats with minor colds and infections. Comfrey - Small plant with large, broad leaves and small, purple bell-shaped flowers. Roots can be chewed into a poultice to treat broken bones, soothe open wounds, and heal wrenched or twisted claws. The leaves can ease stiffness in muscles and reduce swelling. Garlic - Strong smelling plant with white roots. Can be chewed and ingested to combat sickness. Can be applied to bites and scratches to prevent infection. It's strong smell can also disguise scent. Ginger - This sweet smelling root can be chewed to help with nausea or applied to relief muscle pain, inflammation, and other general pain. Bayberry - Evergreen shrub with leaves that spiral around the stems and small reddish-purple fruits. Fruits can be eaten to reduce fevers or used in poultices as a topical aid. If too much of the juices are ingested it can cause a cat to loose their balance and lower their inhibitions. Horseradish - Thick, low lying plant with large, crinkly leaves that have ragged edges and tall white flowers on thin stalks. The roots can be swallowed to help ease colds, treat sinus infections, relief pain, ease toothaches, and aid in digestion. Lime - A tall, thorny bush with round leaves that are narrow in the middle(hourglass shaped). The leaves can be chewed to relieve stress, applied topically to reduce swelling, or made into a poultice to combat fleas and ticks. The tree also has large, round fruits that are highly dangerous if eaten. Lemongrass - Tall, fern-like grass plant that gives off a faint sharp fruit smell. It is chewed for pain relief, and can reduce fevers and swelling. Kitting mothers can chew this to help their kitting along. Mint - Small plant with many small, triangular leaves. The plant has a very sharp scent and taste. When chewed it can ease a mild cough, headaches, and general aches and pains. It can be rubbed on a queen's belly to encourage kits to nurse. Often used on a dead body to mask the scent of death. Neem - Tree with long, skinny leaves and white, fragrant flowers. It can be used as to reduce swelling and often given to cats sick with colds. Nutmeg - The ground seeds from a dark leaved evergreen. Medicine cats use a small rock to crush the seeds. This technique was learned from seagulls who drop oysters from great heights to break them. It can be swallowed to reduce pain. Spike Plant - Skinny plants with long stems, sparse leaves, and tiny purple flowers. When swallowed, the leaves can ease colds and minor coughs. Parsley - Low lying plant with broad, crinkly leaves and tiny clumps of yellow or white flowers. No real use although can be used to stop milk flow in queens who have lost their litters. Is known to be poisonous to birds. Pepper - Cultivated by grinding the fruit of a flowering vine, pepper is a great swelling reducer and pain reliever. It can also suppress appetites so it's often used in traveling herbs. Rosemary - Low lying evergreen with needle-like leaves and pink, purple, or white flowers. It has a distinct smell and the leaves can be swallowed to induce vomiting. Saragundi - Leafy plant with broad leaves and big orange-yellow flowers. Can be used to ease rashes. Thyme - Has very small, narrow and elliptical, dark leaves. Small, pink stemmed buds grow out of the topmost leaves. Thyme is generally combined with other herbs. Alone can be eaten to treat headaches and toothaches. Turmeric - Tall, distinctly shaped plants with yellow-orange cone shaped stems. At the top of the cone the leaves are normally white or green and every so often sprout a large purple flower. The roots can be ground and/or chewed to reduce swelling and relieve arthritis pain. Often taken with pepper to increase effectiveness. Vanilla - Green seed pods from a broad-leaved plant with small yellow flowers. It is a great fever reducer. Like the mint it can be applied to queens bellies to encourage nursing.
I believe the herb list is complete, thanks to so much help from Morning! c:

So glad to help! Planning rps is my favorite part of rps lol. I once thought of having a "I'll help you plan your rp" page.
You got a laugh out of me by including the low-key "you'll lose your ability to focus and such by eating this herb" for the bayberry lol

I like those rules! I also think the medicine list is amazing!
I like numbering things and cutting them down to their most direct meaning. If you'd be comfortable with it, maybe I could sorta splice together a list, using your rules? o0o If not, that's fine!

I know, I'm kind of excited to mess around with that herb... cx /evil cackling/ You're very good at planning, Glory, honestly!
I know Rainy is joining with a queen btw, when she first joined the jump in clan she asked me about it. I almost forgot!
I like the rules too. c: That sounds like a great idea, Owl, thank you!

I am slowly working on the prey list. I'm kind of doing like one day I work on sunclan, the next I work on this one.
I also am making two lists. One is a super generic ocean/beach animal list and the other is more Mediterranean because I looked at the herb list, even the ones Blue found and most of them are from the Mediterranean or locations nearby so y'all can choose which you'd rather or combine it, either works.

Island Tradition Ideas Newborn Kits - The celebration of newborn kits is no small affair. Kittens are the future of our clan, little paws who will one day fight and hunt to keep CoastalClan thriving. The clan throws a huge feast, with prey shared between friends and family, lively mock-battles, swapped stories, and most importantly, well wishes for the new parents. Kin, or even friends, of the parents will often leave gifts for the parents outside the nursery. Flower Gathering - Taking place at least twice every season, many warriors gather together and head out to Waning Cove. Each cat that goes is given a flower to place behind their ear. If placed behind their left ear this signals that the cat has a partner and is in a committed relationship. If the flower is placed behind the right ear, then the cat is single and ready to mingle with others. Basically it's like a huge date night/mixer type of event. New Leaders - When a deputy becomes a leader, they are given their nine lives by StarClan. When the arrive home from a trip to the Moon Pool, the clan will have made a new lei for the cat to wear on their head, as well as a larger one for their new deputy to wear around their neck. Cursed Rocks - It is forbidden to rocks from the main beach, as there is a superstition about this causing bad luck or bringing a curse down upon the cat who dares disturb the beach which gives them so much life - in the form of food. Greetings - It is more than common for CostalClan cats to greet one another with a touch of noses. It can be considered both polite or personal, depending on how it's executed or how the cat's know one another. This is an exchanging of breath, which holds almost a spiritual part in the clan's belief system.
I know we had a festival idea too but I wanted more clarification and these are only ideas c:

I searched Hawaiian customs and took some inspiration from there a bit! c: I really liked that idea as well. I figured it could lead to some really cute moments! Like an older couple sitting together by the water, or a single cat tripping over themselves trying to impress their crush. <3

So I started writing three separate lists of coastal animals: Mediterranean, Hawaiian, and Galapagos. Then realized, it would be much easier to look up what animals could be found in real world equivalents of the different territory locations and they are listed below. I did something like this with Sunclan where I have the different prey/predators for each territory area listed in the description so that's kind of what I did here. For Jagged Bluffs I searched for "sea cliff animals", for Dunes I did "Coastal Dunes", Greystone beach I searched "Rocky shore animals", and the wilds are "hawaiian jungle". I kind of pulled most of the Palm Grove animals out of thin air but some are hawaiian forest animals and I think it kind of works. Feel free to add/remove any you see fit.
All animals written in black are dangerous. Blue words are my side notes because I can't function without side notes.
Jagged Bluffs/Breakneck Bluff - Mice, seabirds (gulls, puffins, pelicans, penguins, eagles), seals, otters. The bolded ones would be dangerous to a single cat but likely could be taken down by a team of hunters or a really really skilled hunter.
Pale Dunes/Velvet Dunes - Snakes, Mice/shrews, spiders (we could explore large dessert spiders as an option O.o), beetles.
Crescent Cove/Waning Cove - Not many animals are found here because it's so well closed off. However mice, beetles, spiders might be found in the rocks, the occasional crab, turtle or otter might come up from the water
Sea Star Grove - Starfish, anemone, sea urchins, shore crabs, sea sponges
Shallow Pools/The Vanishing Pools - same as above
Graystone Beach/Rockbound Bay - sea birds, mollusks, starfish, barnacles habit these rocks. Seals and otters may come up and bask on the rocks
Clearwater Beach - sea birds, fish, crabs, turtles, the occasional octopus or horseshoe crab
Palm Circle - mice/shrews, frogs, snakes, bees (good for honey), You'd likely also find mongoose, deer, and bats hanging around the circle. Feral cattle, pigs and goats are quite dangerous and should be avoided.
The Wilds -Many birds and insects of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Mice.Feral pigs, jaguars, mongoose, snakes, owls, tapirs, monkeys, and foxes. Most animals found in the wilds are dangerous, some could likely be hunted by a team of hunters.

Introduction You could feel it in your bones, today was the day. It was time. Though your joints didn't work like they used to, you pushed yourself up to your paws, casting a faint smile at the soft snores of the feline that rested beside you. The dawn had barely settled over the horizon, casting the whole camp in shadow as you limped from the entrance of your den out into the central clearing. Not another cat stirred and yet, you couldn't help but pause, letting your weary limbs rest for a moment against the sand beneath your paws.
Memories of your first night under these stars brought a grin to your muzzle. Seasons spent playing and hunting with your clan-mate at your side. Battles won and some lost, excitement and peace, followed by days of grief and strife. Learning lessons and making countless mistakes. Feeling the first dose of pure love and the brutal sting of heartbreak. Watching friends come and go, clinging to the ones that remain constant. Days spent patrolling and mentoring, nights spent sharing-tongues and bonding with your precious clan mates.
Yes, you'd lived a mighty full life. A sense of peace so profound that it is impossible to put into words settles over you. Trotting slowly out of the camp, you let the ocean breeze ruffle your fur for the last time. Your footprints leave divots in the sand as you trail towards the water - eyeing the beautiful blue waves. It was time to come home. Your last thought was a prayer of thanks to StarClan that you'd been born into CoastalClan.
From the water life comes and to the water all life will return. It's time for a younger generation's story. Welcome to CoastalClan.

Thanks Rainy! I really wanted it to be different! I'm glad you like it! <3 What do you think of the traditions that we have so far?
Also, I'm going to get to work on a history as well, so we have that - even if it's brief - of the clan! Then we still need rules and a joining form I think right?
|
|
|
|
Post by little blu ♥ on Jul 4, 2020 16:01:50 GMT -5
I can make up a joining form! c: That should be relatively simple... I think xD
I like the idea of narrowing down the cats who get to compete and randomizing the results and such. Maybe we can PM everyone participating before hand so that they know what ranking their cat will get, so that they can come up with why and how their cat gets that ranking through the rp? While it still leaves it open ended to the everyone but the person who was pm'ed that they'd get first - who won over all?
Maybe we have a couple of games? Like we could have a race portion, a hunting portion, a battle portion - which would be on the log as Owl suggested, and a swimming portion? Kind of like the Olympics almost? Meanwhile, cats who aren't competing are either watching the games, playing on the beach, catching food for the luau that night to celebrate the clan and the winner, just generally making a whole day of it.
