ok here is part of the list I made of tropical medicinal plants and herbs along with descriptions and uses. I'll post the other half later. I cross referenced a few from here as it had several of them along with more herbs and medical things that aren't quite subject to the tropics and can be found anywhere. If you'd like I can go through that page and pick out the ones that would be useful to Tropicalclan (by the way is it called Tropicalclan or are you still working on names because Coastclan sounds precious). I am inbetween jobs as I don't start my new one until next monday so I'll have lots of free time this week. Aloe Vera - Dark green, mostly stem-less plant with long, thick fleshy leaves that fan out from the center. Filled with soothing gel that is great for treating burns and skin irritations. Anise - Tall plant with yellow or white flowers and oblong shaped fruit. The fruit is great for treating snake bites. Basil - Tall plant with large, dark green leaves and small, white flowers. It's a catch-all type of herb that medicine cats keep regularly stocked as it helps ease stomach spasms, gas, and colds. It can also help with a loss of appetite and regulate blood circulation. Nursing mothers often take basil after kitting to improve their milk production. Brahmi - It has small flowers that are light purple or white in color with no more than four or five petals. It has a bitter and sweet taste. It is great as a memory enhancer and can relieve anxiety. It also promotes sleep, strengthens the immune system, relieves arthritis pain, reduces swelling, and helps with dry skin. Coriander - The small tan seeds of a small plant with asymmetrical pink flowers. The seeds can be ingested to boost the immune system and fight infections. Cinnamon Bark - Peeled from the trunk of a sharp smelling evergreen, this bark is great for reducing spasms, reducing fevers, and stimulating appetite. Clove - The flowering buds from an evergreen with small white flowers. Cloves are usually used to treat cats with minor colds and infections. Comfrey- Small plant with large, broad leaves and small, purple bell-shaped flowers. Roots can be chewed into a poultice to treat broken bones, soothe open wounds, and heal wrenched or twisted claws. The leaves can ease stiffness in muscles and reduce swelling. Garlic - Strong smelling plant with white roots. Can be chewed and ingested to combat sickness. Can be applied to bites and scratches to prevent infection. It's strong smell can also disguise scent. Ginger - This sweet smelling root can be chewed to help with nausea or applied to relief muscle pain, inflammation, and other general pain.

'Eeeey! It's me. Anything I can do to help out? Maybe you could do the other half of the territory descriptions?? I’m gonna edit the Crescent cove description as well as make one for that Sea Star Grove and the one for Moon Pool) Sure, I can work on that!

Those are fantastic Morning and finding some more that would fit because they can grow anywhere would be really helpful, thank you! c: I'll add the ones you found to the official list I have going ~
Owl, if you want to help us come up with some cool ideas for some traditions, that would be awesome! Or writing out territory/camp landmarks to help Rain? Either way, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Oh, that'd be fun! I'll see what I can come up with, then. Speaking of territories, I was thinking that the Shallow Pools/Vanishing Pools could used as an additional training ground, where mentors take their apprentices to learn how to swim, as well as practice. Tidal pools are relatively shallow and contained, and you don't have to worry about predators. So, I thought they might serve an additional use, as well as being a hunting ground.

Jagged Bluffs/Breakneck Bluff - a dangerous area. to be avoided for the most part. A tall and steep cliffside at the edge of the territory where the water at the bottom is lined with sharp rocks. The soft dirt at the edge of the cliffside makes it prone for the ground to give out and tumble down towards the water. An unfortunate fall off the edge for any cat would guarantee death. Cats are encouraged to stay away and apprentices are forbidden from coming here without their mentor keeping close watch. Smaller prey are usually found around the area, hiding in the tall grasses or burrowing in the ground. Pale Dunes/Velvet Dunes - soft sandy dunes that apprentices are trained on.Short hills of sand, the Pale Dunes offer several flat surfaces for mentors to train their apprentices along the sandy coast. The sand always has a little give, causing battle training to be harder than usual but good practice for apprentices to get used to running on such terrain. Several of the dunes are covered in soft reeds which look golden from the sun. There are paths between each dune for cats to walk along, making it easy to go from one short hill to the other. Crescent Cove/Waning Cove - a little cove just outside of territory.Just outside of clan territory resides a small cove shaped like a crescent moon. The cove is blocked off from the rest of the beach by huge rock formations. The only way to get in is through a crawl space that is well hidden from outsiders, its location only known by clan cats. The sand is softer and brighter than the rest of the beach, pawsteps easily sink in and make it easy to fall asleep and lounge on. The water along the cove is shallow and a brilliantly, bright blue color where the stars clearly reflect in the pool of water at night. The cove is a popular spot amongst the clan cats to lay and relax when there's a lot of downtime, or when it's an especially hot day and one is looking to cool off in the clear waters of the cove. Moon Pool - a small pool in a cave near the cove, where they meet with Starclan Near the cove is a small cave with an entrance just big enough for a cat to crawl through. Once inside, a cat must belly crawl further into the cave before the tunnel finally expands out. Inside there is a large, open space and a pool of clear, blue water. Medicine cats may only visit the Moon Pool when the moon is at it's fullest and at the highest point in the sky, only because it lines up perfectly with the opening in the roof of the cave. The moon beams pour into the pool of water and illuminate the waters up until the very edge. That's when the cats may dip their faces into bright blue waters and be taken to visit Starclan. Rumor has it that while the cats are asleep, the cats with stars in their pelts will dance down from Starclan on the moon beams and protect the living cats while they sleep. Sea Star Grove - a big tide pool near camp that is filled with colorful starfish.
A rather large tidal pool between the camp and the ocean that houses many different starfish of all shapes and sizes. There are large, flat rocks that surround the pool that allows cats to lounge on and watch the strange creatures move about. Traditionally, this is a romantic spot where cats frequent to confess their enamored feelings to one another. This spot was named after one of the first leaders of Coastalclan who had been quite the playtom until he finally settled down with his mate, having promised himself to her after discovering the tide pool full of starfish together. It's tradition for the cat who is confessing to bring a sand dollar with them so that the two may break it together. How many 'doves' the broken sand dollar produces represents how well the relationship will turn out; few doves mean the relationship might not work out while a lot of doves means they were meant to be together. Cats may also interpret the doves as how many kits or litters they will have together. Shallow Pools/The Vanishing Pools - these are the tide pools in territory, good place for prey.WIP Graystone Beach/Rockbound Bay - a rocky beach on one side of territory.WIP Clearwater Beach - the main beach, most hunting gets done here.WIP Palm Circle - a wide clearing of palm trees, herbs grow here.WIP The Wilds - the jungle which makes up half, or at least part of their territoryWIP I finished these territory descriptions so far, let me know what y'all think and if i should change/edit anything!

Here is the other half of the herb list I made. Anything in black are just notes I've made because I felt like I didn't quite know how to explain certain things in more cat-like terms Bayberry - Evergreen shrub with leaves that spiral around the stems and small reddish-purple fruits. Fruits can be eaten to reduce fevers or used in poultices as a topical aid. (There's a footnote I found about the fruit being used in adult drinks and I think if we didn't go too overboard, that might be fun to explore)Horseradish (I wish there was a better name for this but can't think of any) - Thick, low lying plant with large, crinkly leaves that have ragged edges and tall white flowers on thin stalks. The roots can be swallowed to help ease colds, treat sinus infections, relief pain, ease toothaches, and aid in digestion. Kaffir (or just lime?) - A tall, thorny bush with round leaves that are narrow in the middle (hourglass shaped). The leaves can be chewed to relieve stress, applied topically to reduce swelling, or made into a poultice to combat fleas and ticks (because lime juice can be used for headlice which I learned soon after I became a teacher and we had a case at the school I worked at and for some reason it's just kind of stuck with me lol.) The tree also has large, round fruits that are highly dangerous if eaten. Lemongrass - Tall, fern-like grass plant that gives off a faint sharp fruit smell. It is chewed for pain relief, and can reduce fevers and swelling. Kitting mothers can chew this to help their kitting along (the exact wording of the page I read was "stimulates the uterus" lol so I don't know, I ran with it)
Mint - Small plant with many small, triangular leaves. The plant has a very sharp scent and taste. When chewed it can ease a mild cough, headaches, and general aches and pains. It can be rubbed on a queen's belly to encourage kits to nurse. Often used on a dead body to mask the scent of death. Neem - Tree with long, skinny leaves and white, fragrant flowers. It can be used as to reduce swelling and often given to cats sick with colds. Nutmeg - The ground seeds from a dark leaved evergreen. (So there have been a couple listed that are from ground seeds or roots so I have this adorable idea that the medicine cats use a small rock to crush the seeds. Maybe they learned it from seagulls who drop oysters from great heights to break them) It can be swallowed to reduce pain. Oregano (also tempted to have them call it "spike plant' for no reason other than it looks like little spikes) - Skinny plants with long stems, sparse leaves, and tiny purple flowers. When swallowed, the leaves can ease colds and minor coughs. Parsley - Low lying plant with broad, crinkly leaves and tiny clumps of yellow or white flowers. No real use although can be used to stop milk flow in queens who have lost their litters. (Side note, apparently it's poisonous to birds so we could take that and run with it somehow?)Pepper - Cultivated by grinding the fruit of a flowering vine, pepper is a great swelling reducer and pain reliever. It can also suppress appetites so it's often used in traveling herbs.
Rosemary - Low lying evergreen with needle-like leaves and pink, purple, or white flowers. It has a distinct smell and the leaves can be swallowed to induce vomiting. Saragundi - Leafy plant with broad leaves and big orange-yellow flowers. Can be used to ease rashes. Thyme - Has very small, narrow and elliptical, dark leaves. Small, pink stemmed buds grow out of the topmost leaves. Thyme is generally combined with other herbs. Alone can be eaten to treat headaches and toothaches. Turmeric - Tall, distinctly shaped plants with yellow-orange cone shaped stems. At the top of the cone the leaves are normally white or green and every so often sprout a large purple flower. The roots can be ground and/or chewed to reduce swelling and relieve arthritis pain. Often taken with pepper to increase effectiveness. Vanilla - Green seed pods from a broad-leaved plant with small yellow flowers. It is a great fever reducer. Like the mint it can be applied to queens bellies to encourage nursing. Here are some additional ones from the medicine cat guide I linked above. It's kind of a lot so I put it in a spoiler: Beech- Large tree usually with a thick trunk that grows in sandy or chalky soil. Wood is rather smooth and usually somewhat gray in color. Iconic oval leaves with defined straight lines. Leaves are often used to carry medicine supplies. Oil from the nuts can be applied directly to wounds to fight and prevent infection.
Bindweed- A vine-like plant with white, trumpet-like flowers and distinctive arrow-shaped green leaves. Grows almost anywhere like ivy. Vines can be used to tie things, most importantly sticks to broken legs to set the break.
Borage- Commonly found in gardens and old dwellings. The whole plant is rough with white and prickly hairs. Flowers are blue or purple and star-shaped. Leaves are eaten to stimulate milk in queens. Can also bring down fevers.
Burdock- Stout plant with large wavy leaves and purple flowers inclosed in a burr. Found in damp areas. Has a very sharp smell and dark leaves. Leaves can be eaten to treat indigestion. A poultice of chewed root is very important in the treatment of rat bites.
Catmint- Also known as catnip. Is very rare to find in the wild and can normally only be found in two-leg gardens. Is a very delicious-smelling plant that is low to the ground and possesses small, bumpy, slightly fuzzy leaves. Are eaten to treat Greencough and Whitecough. Collect in the day so the morning dew will be gone and it won’t rot in storage.
Chamomile- A small, daisy-like white flower with a large and bulbous yellow center. Has a heavy and sweet smell. Only found in two-leg gardens. Blossoms and petals are eaten to strengthen and calm the heart and mind. Also given for strength when traveling.
Cob Nuts- Smooth, brown nut that is a member of the hazelnut family. Found under hazel nut trees. Chewed and made into ointments that would otherwise be too soupy to apply. Also used to attract prey.
Cobwebs- Webs from a spider, normally old or abandoned. Can be best found in dark and secluded areas. Used like a cloth on open wounds to stop bleeding. Applied to recovering wounds to keep medicine in place or protect the wound.
Coltsfoot- Found the most around wet places. Has iconic hoof-shaped green leaves and fluffy yellow flowers that look similar to dandelions. Leaves can be eaten to cure a cough. A good thing to give to kits that are having trouble breathing or have kitcough.
Coneflower- Rich purple flower whose petals are seated in a high cone. Is very sweet smelling and tasting. Grows in northern rugged areas near short pine trees. Roots and leaves eaten to give strength and disease resistance.
Daisy- Small plant with a circular, iconic white flower with many petals and a yellow center. Found nearly everywhere. Dark oval leaves are chewed into a paste to apply to aching joints. Can also be eaten to prevent joint pain when traveling.
Dandelion- A memorable yellow flower with long, weak, hollow stems. A half moon after the weed blooms, the yellow flower turns into a white sphere of minuscule smaller flowers that blow away in the wind. Is extremely, annoyingly common. Liquid within the hollow stems is applied to beestings to help them get better. Leaves can also be eaten to treat pain but taste awful.
Feverfew- Composite plant that grows nearly everywhere, but most commonly near water. Has numerous, small, daisy-like heads of yellow flowers with outer white rays. Leaves are broad and downy. Most commonly eaten to sooth a fever. Also eaten to treat coughs, colds, wheezing, and difficult breathing. Can help with colic. Is very bitter.
Holly- Plant with shiny, dark green, spiky-edged leaves and plump red berries. Found almost anywhere woody. Berries are very poisonous.
Honey- Golden and sticky liquid made by bees and found in their hives. Taken with bitter herbs to get them down easier. Mixed with some poultices to make them hold to wounds easier. Can be given to kits without someone to suckle from as a nutrient substitute. Is very good for smoke-damaged throats. Also gives energy.
Knotgrass- A very common weed found relatively anywhere. The stems can grow up to six feet in length, with leaves that alternate and are stalkless. Leaves are narrow and oval. Roots are very strong and branching. A tonic can be made out of knotgrass to treat diarrhea. It can be directly administered to kill worms and fleas.
Lavender- Found in two-leg gardens and near thunderpaths. A grassy bush with tall clumps of small purple flowers. Has a sweet and calming scent. Cures fever and chills if placed in a cat’s nest and inhaled constantly. Also placed on the bodies of the dead to hide the scent of death, especially at burial.
Mallow- A short plant with fuzzy, three-pointed leaves that are somewhat bumpy. Sweet-smelling purple flowers with narrow, heart-shaped petals. Grows best near the seashore. Only harvest at sunhigh when they are dry for they rot easily. Eaten to sooth bellyaches.
Marigold- Found in wet meadows and along streams. Showy dark-green plant with a very large buttercup, usually red or yellow. Infusion of flowers prevent seizures. Poultice can be applied to wounds to prevent and fight infection. Can also be used for inflamed joints.
Mouse Bile- Stomach bile taken from a dead mouse. Used to remove ticks and fleas from pelts.
Oleander- A lesser known poisonous flower. All parts are toxic to most animals, including cats. It is a shrub that can grow up to twelve feet high with wide, white, red, or pink roselike blossoms. Leaves are thin and waxy. It thrives in hot or sunny places.
Rush- Long, very very thin leaved plant with dark reddish-purple heads on its stalks. Grows in soils that don’t seem to grow anything else. Hard stalks are used to bind broken bones.
Snakeroot- Best treatment for poison, especially from snake bites. Is a short-growing plant with numerous, very tiny white flowers in clusters and pointy and narrow green leaves. Chewed and applied directly to snake bites.
Sage- Generally grows about a foot high and has wiry stems. Leaves are in pairs up the stem and are oblong with rounded ends. They have prominent veins. Flowers grow only in late GreenLeaf and are in whorls, purplish and lipped. All parts have a strong herbal odor and have a warm, bitter taste. Most commonly found in forests near the coast. Drinking a tonic of water and crushed sage can soothe the throat. Fresh leaves can be rubbed on teeth to strengthen them in Elders.
Sorrel- Tall plant with arrow-shaped leaves. Tiny round red flowers on a stalk. Roots and leaves used to help with heavy bleeding. Grows pretty much anywhere. Is also used to give appetite.
Stick- A thin twig usually found on the ground. Given to cats in pain to bite on to keep them from crying out too much. Also used in binding broken bones.
Stinging Nettle- A strange-looking bushy plant with yellow-green, long, and toothed leaves. Is most distinguished from its strange strings of very tiny bulbs. Has tall, hard, brown or green stems. Leaves and steps can be covered in hairs that are either soft or spiky. Found all over forests, and most common in moist fields. Seeds are eaten by a cat to induce vomiting. Seeds and leaves can also be chewed and applied to swelling areas. Can be mixed with comfrey to help heal broken bones. Stems also help with infection.
Sweet Sadge- Thick, reed-like stem with long corn-like buds at the top. Grows only in Leaf-Bare. Most common near rivers or streams. Sap is swallowed to ease internal infections.
Tansy- Vertical and leafy stem, very tall. In leaf-Fall, yellow flowers grow described as round and flat ‘buttons’. Can generally grow anywhere in a wood. Poultice applied to sprains and swelling. Watermint- A green and leafy plant with small purple flowers that grow in a sphere. Eaten to ease a bellyache. Found in streams or very damp soil.
Wild Cherry- A large tree that produces white, pink, and (very rarely) red blossoms. Also referred to as sakura. Bark is very dark and reddish, nearly black. The cherries are about the size of a pea and are glossy and sweet. A tonic made of bark can be used as a sedative and is a surprising treatment to Greencough.
Yarrow- Grows pretty much everywhere. Stem is hard and long. Small white flowers grow in clumps. Eating any part of the plant fresh induces vomiting. Dry yarrow eaten in small quantities has been known to open bloodflow (when bitten by snake or in shock) and to help with colds.

Oh, that's right! I might wait for Owl, in case they have something written up! Anything else I should work on at the moment? I need to work on replies. (so much work ; - ; ) But I also wanna help work on this clan.... since it's my responsibility xD

If I can I'll go herbal for certain things usually for ointments or hair treatments. But also things like peppermint, and vanilla are great for headaches and I've applied ground mustard to rashes (I have bad reactions to insect bite especially mosquitoes so I often have small rashes and even keep a small bottle of ground mustard in my desk at work since the playground tends to have mosquitoes).
I can work on a list of prey/predators if you like

That's not bad at all. The only reason my clans have real world counterparts is because of the clans they border. I'll just come up with generic coastal creatures )

Hey! Sorry for my inactivity. I haven't been feeling too hot lately. So, as it turns out, I think I might not be the best one to write the rest of the landmarks. I think my writing style is a bit too different from Rainy's. I tend to favor minimalism when writing, which can leave some things looking sparse by comparison. Like, for the Shallow/Vanishing Pools, all I thought to write was, "A colorful assortment of tidal pools, rich with life and prey. This place is a popular hunting destination, but it also serves as an additional training ground, where mentors take their apprentices to practice swimming." So, it sticks out as being awkwardly short by comparison. However, what this does make me good at is writing rules. That's my specialty, honestly. So, while I think it might be best to hand the landmarks over to someone more able, I can definitely help with the rules when the time comes! In the meantime, I apologize for wasting time like that. TvT;
I did think of a small tradition/game that might be fun for the clan, though! Two cats must stand on a piece of submerged driftwood, and duke it out, so to say. They must keep their balance and execute their fighting techniques, and whoever falls into the water first, looses. It's like a game of chicken fight, and it can be played by apprentices (as an assignment) or warriors (trying to settle a debut). Just an idea, though.

No worries Owl, I think we can all relate! c: I hope you're feeling better and all is well! /virtual hugs/ I see what you mean and if that would make you more comfortable I would love some help with the rules, they're actually something I struggle with so, I'd really appreciate it.
Rainy, if you want help with the territory, I'd be happy to give it! c:
I love that tradition idea, it sounds like a really cool idea. I think apprentices duking it out could be fun but maybe warriors could get in on the fun too, dunno thoughts?

If you need some ideas for rules, I can post mine that you can either reflavor or copy/paste or whatever you wanna do. They're something I struggle with too but I finally got a good list that wasn't too much but wasn't too loosey goosey about it)

I also had an idea for a tradition for medicine cat apprentices. It's something I thought of a while ago but never really had a chance to follow through with it due to just not having a med apprentice in my clans because people tend to hang onto their medicine cats for quite some time and I eventually had to make a rule about it. Anyway the basic idea is that when the medicine cat decides the apprentice is ready for their full name, the apprentice goes to the place of worship by themselves. There, when they meet with starclan, they'll go through a trial not unlike doctors completing their Boards. So starclan would give questions like "if this cat is suffering this illness and you have these herbs available what would you choose to do?" And the herbs given may not have a direct way to heal so the apprentice has to be creative with their healing processes. If they succeed, starclan will give the apprentice their full name and then they'll journey home and there will be a ceremony to reveal the starclan given name to the clan. If they fail they must wait at least a couple moons before trying again. I did this to kind of highlight the spiritual connection just a little bit more and because as far as the books go there really isn't an assessment for the medicine cat apprentices like there is for warrior apprentices.
