((cloudwatcher and pondfrost form the -holding out apprentice- “i dont want this” club)) Pondfrost - w/ Batwing, Seapaw, and Leafriver - willowflower , little blu ♥ , highprince Barwing’s words shook her from her thoughts, and she gave her tail an eager twitch, ready to get going and have a distraction. She had organized her own plans now- herb patrol, talk to Seapaw, deal with Turtlepaw- and she felt much more steady that she had before. The last thing the clan needed was another grumpy cat stomping about, so she took a smooth breath, and then gave a bright smile. “Yep! I’d say we’re all ready!” She nodded. “As long as we head opposite their direction, we should be fine- I don’t think they’ll be too eager to run into us, either.” She snorted, thinking of all the tension that had formed just moments prior, Needle and Rope - w/ Jacques - willowflower “Not surprised they’re jumpy loons, with all that spirituality nonsense going on. I heard they don’t even make their own decisions when it comes to leadership.” Needle added with a scoff, keeping his gaze directed at Rope. He was sure if he looked at Jacques stupid smiley face, he was goong to jump the tom and attempt to shred him. He hated those smug types, especially since Rope always let himself get duped so easily. “Moon Lake?” Rope spoke up for the first time in a while, ears pricking with interest. So this lake had something to do with their spirituality, huh? He didn’t know much about that clan of cats, other than their hostility and borders. While they weren’t twolegs, and didn’t seem to have anything to do with them, it did at least sound interesting. Swallowdive - w/ Virgil, Tangledthrush, Fadedecho - willowflower , highprince , little blu ♥ Swallowdive twitched his whiskers at Tangledthrush’s introduction, giving the tom more scrutiny as he tossed around his leader’s words. Surprisingly, he seemed more thoughtful and less scornful at Virgil’s attempt to defend his worth, and narrowed his eyes slightly. “A little too old to be an apprentice, isn’t he? But if he says he can pull his weight, who am I to judge? I could take him hunting later... see what he’s got, and teach him a little more- at the very least, I could have him scurrying up trees like squirrel before the moon is over.” Swallowdive gave a small laugh as he moved to Virgil’s side, giving him a more friendly shoulder bump. “Can’t say I’m delighted about having a loner dragged in, but if he can strut his stuff, I can get used to it.”

S e a p a w in camp || with Pondfrost, Batwing & Leafriver ➣ The apprentice was shaken out of his daydreams by a particularly violent twitch, which made his jaw rattle. Flinching, the tom jerked himself up to his paws, wondering if he wore himself out a bit the spasms would get less. Some days the little trick worked and other days he just had to push through.
Seapaw trailed over to the entrance, ready to leave but too timid to verbally announce it to the little patrol. He cast a shaky smile back at the medicine cats and Pondfrost, trying to be as friendly as he could be. He didn't want to come off as rude. Secretly he was really glad that he hadn't been sent on that hunting patrol, he was an awful hunter. Pouncing and being still was near impossible for him. Shame lingered under his pelt at the thought.
Some warrior he'd make. M o c k i n g b i r d in camp || with Cypresstail ➣ Mockingbird lay down beside her father, tucking her paws under her chest and truly allowing herself to relax. Sleeping in the nursery was difficult without the comforting warmth of Cloudwatcher sleeping right beside her. Seeing the sympathy in Cypresstail's eyes, the she-cat nodded and glanced at her stomach. "I've t-talked to Le-afriver ab-bout it br-iefly, but it w-was in p-passing r-really. I was th-thinking of g-going in and s-seeing one of th-them later t-today," she admitted, plucking a few feathers from the sparrow. With a smile she remembered how she used to chase feathers around with her siblings. Maybe she'd use some of the feathers to soften up her father's nest. It was looking a bit thin, which couldn't be good for his joints. Mockingbird watched her father rub at his blind eye and wondered if it was giving him trouble, worry tugging at her heart. Cypresstail expertly distracted her a moment later though with his question about names.
"A f-few, I th-ink. I th-thought ab-bout... may-be S-Sunkit..." she drifted off, guilt stabbing her directly through the chest. She'd been the reason her father had died that day. If she hadn't been nearly drowned in the water Sunbreak would have never dove in to save her life. How could she look Cypresstail in the eyes when she was the reason his mate no longer stood at his side?
P u d d l e s p o t s on patrol || with Brackishclaw, Glassyfern & Turtlepaw ➣ The tom relaxed when his presence on the patrol was generally accepted. Getting out into the territory to do a little hunting would give him a chance to stretch out. He nodded at Brackishclaw's direction, falling in beside Glassyfern comfortably. His pelt began to cool off as he exited the camp, taking a deep breath.
"A competition, huh? You all in the mood to lose?" Puddlespots grinned, playfulness sparking to life in his gaze. The silvery feline flexed his own claws, itching at the chance to prove himself - especially to Brackishclaw. Foggy green eyes slip to Turtlepaw, narrowing in challenge.
"Oh you're on. What do we get if we win, to make this fair?" he asked, head tiliting to the side, tail waving behind him. F a d e d e c h o in makeshift camp || with Tangledthrush, Virgil & Swallowdive ➣ Fadedecho felt his eyes begin to slide closed, the shadows of sleep closing in on him from either side. His breathing began to even out as the soothing voice of his sister faded to white noise in his ears. Just as the pale tom truly slipped into a state of unconsciousness a violent burst of red and a shattering wail echoed through his mind, jolting him right back into the land of the living.
His heart pounded in his ears and his eyes searched out the camp frantically, terror briefly shining in them. The smile still lingered on his face, making him appear insane if nothing else. Fadedecho tried to relax, realizing it was just another of his twisted dreams.
With trembling limbs, the tom turned and pushed his way through the fennel, finding a quiet spot and curling up so that he was completely hidden. He wasn't being of much help with his sister's tour anyway. Instead, he stared at what he could see of the sky and tried to calm himself after the horror he'd been forced to see.
H a d i e at foul beaches || with the Stranger ➣ The red and white spotted bengal spotted molly froze at the sound of a loud snap. Her fur fluffed up to make her appear bigger than she was, her icy green eyes locking on the strange creature that was staring back at her - at least from what the young feline could tell. Fear coursed through the young cat, the other was about the size of a twoleg but looked like none that she'd ever seen.
Familiar curiosity began to prickle at the back of her mind, the lizard long forgotten, as she trembled before the mighty creature. What was this thing? Was it dangerous? What was it doing to the sharp thicket(what I assume they'd call barbed wire)? Still puffed up like a black, white, and red, cotton ball, the young molly inched forward a bit to try and get a better scent on the strange creature.
P i t c h p a w in camp || with Cloudwatcher ➣ Leaping out from his hiding place behind the warriors den, Pitchpaw landed squarely on his target - his mentor's tail. "Gotcha!" the apprentice crowed, his blue eyes lit from within by mischief. Skipping to stand beside his mentor he peeked up at him with a cheeky grin, his own tail waving like a flag. "Good morning, lazy-bones. I've been up for hours," the tom boasted, not mentioning that hours really translated into a few moments ago when Echopaw had woken him up. Still, to the overactive tom, it had felt like forever.
"So, what are we doing today, Cloudwatcher?" he asked, lifting up on his hind legs to place a small paw against the older tom's shoulder. He had the energy of an over-excited kit, though to be fair, he was only six moons old - fresh from the nursery. He still had some kitten fluff even.

Leafriver || in camp with Batwing, Pondfrost, and Seapaw
“Yep,” Leafriver agreed, frowning as they watched said hunting patrol exit camp. “They’ll probably head over the Twoleg Bridge, so, hm. Let’s maybe head east towards Moon Lake? I should probably grab some white horehound anyway.”
As they followed the hunting patrol out, their suspicions were confirmed as said patrol headed off in the direction of the Bridge. “Welp, east it is,” they said. They returned Seapaw’s smile and started heading out into the territory, keeping by Batwing’s side. “We should find glasswort by the water’s edge,” they said over to Pondfrost, knowing of her gel pads. “It’s the thick green succulents.”

Brackishclaw || with Turtlepaw, Glassyfern, and Puddlespots
“Oh, yeah?” Brackishclaw said to Turtlepaw with a grin. “Got a lot of confidence there, don’t you?” He could just imagine the awkwardness of approaching ol’ Cypresstail, having to clean the old cat’s nest like in his old apprentice days. No way was that happening. (And again, that old cat might be his new leader. The idea made him grit his teeth.) “You’re so on,” he said, tossing his head. “You’ll have to work real hard to make that happen, though!” He took the challenge in stride - there was no way he was going to let an apprentice show him up!
He nudged Puddlespots playfully. “Come on, we’re not picking ticks off of ol’ Cypresstail, are we?” Then, as the thought hadn't even occurred, to him, turned back to Turtlepaw. "Oh yeah, what do we get? Bragging rights?" Part of Brackishclaw wanted to joke that the apprentice could wait upon the winner, doing whatever they demanded for a day.

Tangledthrush || with Virgil, Fadedecho, and Swallowdive
Tangledthrush was very careful not to snort at Virgil’s words about Swallowdive. That was certainly one way to describe him. Though, Swallowdive seemed to take this in tow, offering warmer words in response, to which a tiny stressed part of Tangledthrush relaxed.
“I’m glad,” she said to Swallowdive dryly. Out of the corner of her eye she saw movement from Fadedecho, and when she’d turned her head he had already stalked off into the fennel. While he still wore his permanent smile, there was a tremor to his walk that made her want to check up on him. But, she thought as she turned her head back to the others, she couldn’t leave Virgil alone so soon. “Why don’t the three of us head out on a patrol, then? Explore the area, hunt along the way?” she said. “Maybe I can convince Treebitten to come along, if she wants her -“ she shuddered a little, “- test subjects.”
A patrol or a hunt, to her, was always a good way for clanmates to bond. She just came back from a hunt, though, and they still hadn’t scouted out their new home in full yet. “How well do you know this particular area, Virgil?” she asked.
((here’s the first half of replies, i’ll get the others out soon))

Batwing with Leafriver, Pondfrost, and Seapaw || Leaving camp
Batwing stayed close to Leafriver, knowing that the territory could be dangerous, and he trusted them to guide him along. He stayed quiet as Leafriver told Pondfrost and Seapaw what they were looking for, finding nothing to add. "Hey, Seapaw," he said after a moment, figuring that it wouldn't hurt to make conversation with the apprentice. "You'd really rather be with us than out hunting with your sister and mentor?" While Batwing didn't think Turtlepaw's behavior was exactly reasonable, he understood it. Apprentices typically didn't want to spend their time with medicine cats.
@nettles
Turtlepaw with Brackishclaw, Glassyfern, and Puddlespots || Heading to Twoleg Bridge
Turtlepaw grinned as Brackishclaw and Puddlespots took her bet. She was so confident she could win, she didn't care what she was betting away. It was foolish, sure, but Turtlepaw wasn't exactly the type to think reasonably about anything at all. "If someone actually manages to beat me," she began, pausing for effect, "I'll do whatever you want for a day, bring you the best freshkill for five sunrises, and tell the whole clan that you're the greatest warrior." Turtlepaw purred in amusement, ready to take on any of the warriors and enjoy the look on their face when they realized they'd lost.

Virgil with Tangledthrush and Swallowdive || Camp
Virgil sighed with relief, as it seemed that Swallowdive wasn't pushing on him too hard. Maybe he was just acting tough to test me, Virgil thought, suddenly feeling much better about the situation. His ears pricked up eagerly at the thought of being brought out and taught to hunt. Perhaps he could prove himself to be a quick learner and impress these strange cats.
At Tangledthrush's question, Virgil thought for a moment. "I've been wandering around near here since I was a kit," he answered. "Though I don't believe I've encountered any of you before, so I must not know this area as well as I thought." Virgil was sort of ashamed to admit it, but he thought being honest was the best idea.
Cloudwatcher with Pitchpaw || Camp
Cloudwatcher's fur spiked up in alarm as something grabbed onto his tail. He was about to turn around, claws out, when said thing revealed itself to just be Pitchpaw. He frowned at his apprentice's claim about having been up for hours, though he wouldn't argue with him about it now. Pitchpaw's energy was infectious.
"Well, I was thinking that we could go practice some battle moves," Cloudwatcher answered, gently pushing his apprentice off of him. "I'm sure that you'd like to show up the other apprentices in the battle games that are coming up, right?" Cloudwatcher had hated the games himself. He'd never been a talented fighter, and his siblings had made sure to make a show out of beating him. Oh well, he thought, pushing his own experiences away, if Pitchpaw enjoys it, then so be it.

((this took way too long to get out, so sorry >.<))
Cypresstail || in camp with Mockingbird
Cypresstail stilled, quiet for a moment, as the name brought about memories. Perhaps, selfishly, he basked in them, the thought of Sunbreak’s dancing eyes, his mate calling his name. His distraction lasted a few seconds before he realized Mockingbird had ceased talking.
“Ah… sorry…” he said in a bit of a daze, gaze drifting across camp as if expecting to see Sunbreak there. “You were saying…? Oh. Sunkit.” He seemed reluctant to settle back into the present, nodding slowly. His heart ached for some reason. “Sunkit. That would be…” His mind drifted off again, this time into the future, kits nestled against Mockingbird’s belly. When he returned, he noticed Mockingbird’s downcast expression. He wondered if she still blamed herself. (He never could. She was only a kit.) “… lovely.”
He wondered if those in Starclan ever returned in another kit’s body. Perhaps it’s selfish for him to wonder so.
He brought his paw back up to his eye, feeling the headache pressing hard against his forehead.

Jacques || at border with Needle and Rope
“Exactly, Needle,” Jacques said. “Landing perfectly to our advantage.” He stood before the two of them, posing. “The Moon Lake is their most special, sacred spot. I know this because once I tried to take a drink out of it and a cat nearly shredded my ears off.” Something something stars, something something ancestors. Jacques stepped over the border and waved his tail for the other two to follow. “Sometimes I’ll even find cats sleeping by the water’s edge. I think they talk to ghosts or something?” He thinks this over, then shrugs. “Yeah, they talk to magical ghosts that tell the future. So -“ he nodded towards where the lake lied. “We just rise out of the lake and tell them that the spirits of the stars sent us to usher their clan into a golden age! Or something.”
@nettles
The Stranger || at Foul Beaches with Hadie
The long, tall creature paused in its work, as if sensing the tiny cat’s presence, before slowly turning its face towards her. What she’d see under that hood is a dark plastic face, one with round black pits for eyes, a sloping muzzle, and a strange, dotted circle where the mouth should be, flanked by similar round appendages through which noisy breath could be heard heaving in and out.
The creature tilted its head, unblinking, as it studied the little cat, at her fur all puffed up, and, slowly and steadily, as if trying not to spook her, stepped over the barbed wire and crouched as if to get a better look at her. Its gloved hand opened, held out near the ground - a greeting? An offering? It waited to see if the little cat would come closer.
((and, just oooone more cat:
Oceanpelt || she-cat (she/hers) || 62 moons || queen Oceanpelt is a very fluffy she-cat with pale blue-gray fur that is constantly in motion, as if the wind is continuously buffeting her pelt. The movement reveals sheens of teal and green. Her ears and paws are tipped with white, her legs so short that they just tuck underneath her massive pelt. Oceanpelt has very, very pale sea-foam green eyes and six very fluffy tails. || Her mind has always been a bit detached, a little distant, though recently she’s been even more so, speaking in a distracted, airy voice as she gazes off into the distance. She was remembered to be and still is considered a bit of an airhead, though she mostly just struggles to follow conversation and often jumps about six feet ahead in her mind, meandering from one topic to another or abruptly cutting to the next, marinating her thoughts in the abstract. What she does love is movement, ironic as she often finds herself in the nursery. || Oceanpelt is the mother of Puddlespots and Pondfrost. They were her first litter, and though she always wanted more kits it didn’t come to be with her white-furred mate Saltywhisper. When Turtlepaw and Seapaw were brought in as kits by Reedfoot, Oceanpelt happily took them in under her wing and raised them like they were her own. Now, by some gift by Starclan, Oceanpelt has found herself with kits once more, though at her age it is now an even more dangerous gamble. || Oceanpelt is often found serenely floating a few inches from the ground. The lighter her spirits, the higher she can fly. However, gravity’s lack of a pull on her means that she can almost never touch the ground on her own, which can mean a struggle in doing the most menial tasks. Her mate Saltywhisper is claimable.

(oceanpelt is cute ^^ is saltywhisper a.... salty guy? XD) Pondfrost - w/ Batwing, Leafriver, Seapaw - willowflower, highprince, little blu ♥As the group headed out, Pondfrost stuck close to the front, ears pricked for potential threats. Pondfrost gave Leafriver a curt nod, processing the mention og glasswort before tuning out Batwing’s words and slipping closer to the water. She examined the glassy surface for anything that could heavily disturb it, before testing her paws on it. The gel was spread evenly on her paws and held her up on the surface, and she began navigating carefully, keeping an eye out for stray patches of potentially dangerous plant life as she poked about for the plant Leafriver had described. “How much do we need?” She called back to Leafriver as she padded out a bit further over the water’s surface, spotting a smooth green plant that resembled the ones kept in the medicine den. Needle and Rope - w/ Jacques - willowflower“So we’re going for a dive in their sacred puddle?” Needle snorted, though she felt a bit of anxiety knot up in her stomach. Sure, their ancestor worship was silly, but should they really be messing with a bunch of superstitious, short-tempered cats? Rope was visibly thinking over it, his eyes flicking away for a moment. He was fine with going for a swim, but he wasn’t quite sure about manipulating a bunch of cats. It sounded like something Kite would do. Still, Jacques looked sure, and weren’t these cats in a state of unrest anyways? Surely having outsiders uninvolved in their conflicts to guide them could only help. Surprisingly, Needle nodded first. “Only so I can see this blow up on you.” She teased, rolling her eyes. After all, she decided, the worst that could happen was getting chased away. Swallowdive - w/ Virgil, Fadedecho, Tangledthrush - willowflower, highprince, little blu ♥“Well, I suppose taking him on patrol would be the best way to get him used to the territory.” Swallowdive nodded. “And I suppose it’d be easier to get used to him if he’s helping check out the area. Just don’t get yourself eaten so soon, eh?” He gave a laugh, as he glanced back anxiously to where Treebitten had gone. He wasn’t sure he felt great about inviting the eerie feline along with them, but Virgil would have to get used to her eventually.

((a very salty boi x3
sorry for my own inactivity, y’all! i’m going to work hard to do better about that - also, i’ll be rebranding the clan a tiny bit ^.^ (and by that i mean changing the title lol)
also, may i send something frightening at the hunting patrol? :3))
Leafriver || outside territory with Batwing, Pondfrost, and Seapaw
Leafriver couldn’t help but stand on high alert, ears perked and eyes scouring the horizon. They stood attentively by Batwing, clearly untrusting of the land around them. Even the earth can swallow you alive, they reminded themself harshly. They may have been taught basic self-defense as a medicine cat, but they still didn’t care for the way the plants shifted against the wind.
“A good pawful should work okay,” Leafriver called down to Pondfrost, gazing across the lagoon water to check for danger. The shifting of white feathers caught their eye, and they looked over to the other bank to see a heron, tall and proud, their long neck curving over their back to pluck at its ruffled plumage. They couldn’t help but stare at it, a nervous tremor crawling down their spine. “Be careful,” they couldn’t help but say, staring at the herons’ eyes as all sixteen blinked serenely at them.
They moved forward down the path a little more, in view of Pondfrost as she collected the glasswort, nuzzling through the familiar patch of grasses. “Got some yellow dock over here.”
Jacques || on territory with Needle and Rope
Jacques laughed. “Your confidence in me is stunning,” he teased back, just as the Moon Lake came into view. For a moment, he just appreciated the prettiness of the water. It was still, almost eerily so, despite the soft breeze that tickled his fur.
“Oh, the geese are out,” he said, observing the long-necked birds peck at the grass not so far away. There were some teenage goslings among them, dark feathers beginning to come in. A sentry stood tall, its dark eyes cold. “Scary things,” he said, staring at the geese thoughtfully.
Needle and especially Rope’s hesitance upon hearing his plan had made him reflect upon it. As little as he knew his two companions he already trusted them as a litmus test to his admittedly on-the-fly schemes. “Would it,” he spoke up after said reflection, “make for a stronger image if we were to simply… sit. Mysteriously. Right in front of the magic lake.”
Brackishclaw || Twoleg Bridge with Turtlepaw, Glassyfern, and Puddlespots
“You are on,” Brackishclaw said immediately, grinning almost wickedly. Some, perhaps mildly mature part of him reasoned that it surely was unfair since it was an apprentice against fully trained warriors, but another snarked that the result would surely teach the apprentice the price of arrogance. “Prepare to exalt my name to every cat in the clan!”
He held his nose in the air and his keen eye on the land, already narrowing in on known prey-heavy spots upon the marsh. Within moments he caught wind of a dusty duck tucked beneath a rock by the water, nipping at its feathers.
With that, he threw a smirk at the other two warriors over his shoulder and, with a flick of his tail, took off after his prey.
Tangledthrush || in makeshift camp with Virgil and Swallowdive, mentioned Fadedecho
“That’s settled, then,” Tangledthrush said, delighted. “If you’re not too tired, Virgil, let’s head out again in a bit. Prepare for a patrol, then - I’ll see if I can gather other cats.” The few meager handful that they had, that is. She padded off, trusting the two with each other for now.
“Treebitten?” she said, coming upon the curled up she-cat. “Want to come on patrol with our newcomer?”
The medicine cat sighed dramatically, lifting her head to reveal the delicate dissection of an unfortunate toad. The sight made Tangledthrush shudder from head to tail. “I suppose,” Treebitten said, sounding utterly put-upon. “If you won’t get me my necessary ingredients I’ll have to get them myself.”
“R-right then,” Tangledthrush said. “Glad to have you.”
As she padded off to find Fadedecho, she heard Treebitten mutter, “At least someone is.”

((dw about it, life gets to us all sometimes lol. also, kite and ladder have yet to be added to allegiances rip)) Pondfrost - w/ Batwing, Leafriver, Seapaw - willowflower, highprince, little blu ♥“Um, so...” Pondfrost began, as she picked her way to the plant, being carefulof any greenery that seemed a little too shifty. “Has there been anything from our ancestors about this whole...” It was incredibly straightforward, but Pondfrost was not known for speaking slowly and subtly. Sure, the split was recent, but surely something so big would cause them to spring into action, to assure their living clanmates that they were keeping an eye on them. “I mean, I know it’s so soon, but... well, has anything like this happened to the clan before?” She though aloud, though she quieted a bit as she focused her attentiom on the glasswort. She’d rather not end up another cat lost to the swamp because she was running her mouth instead of focusing on collecting just a pawful of plants. Needle and Rope - w/ Jacques - willowflower“It’d mean getting a lot less wet, which I’m all for.” Needle snorted, eyeing the geese warily- they could be vicious little jerks, and she’d rather they stay as far from her as possible. Rope seemed unbothered, gazing at the Moon Lake with eyes round with wonder. It wasn’t any twoleg tree, but it was at least an aesthetically pleasing sight, and the placid waters certainly put him at ease. Even Needle’s fur seemed to smooth down a bit as the feline approached the water, gazing down at his reflection. “So, what? We wait until they come, and stare at the water like we’re hotshots? It sounds a little too easy.” Needle muttered. He was surprised when Rope shushed him, gazing down into the water as though captivated by it. “Converting already?” Needle added the snide remark in a much softer tone, rolling his eyes. It was still a bunch of nonsense to him, but the usually bristly cat had to admit there was something a bit odd about the air of the area.

((whoop sorry, added!
also, an update! because of showbiz’s inactivity, i will be feeding their characters to the marsh. i’m thinking of sending a deadly creature to haunt the hunting patrol, ultimately taking glassyfern. i would also like to move the herb patrol over to where jacques, needle, and rope are waiting on my next post so that they can all finally meet!))
Leafriver || outside territory with Pondfrost, Batwing, and Seapaw
Leafriver hesitated at the question. The honest answer was no, absolutely not. Not that they know of, at least. Then again, their own connection with Starclan was faint at best. When they first slept by the Moon Lake’s edge, their dreams had been haunted by nothing but strange shadows and fuzzy signs that their father insisted had to be symbols, messages from beyond the stars. But they never could make out what Starclan was trying to tell them. Maybe they foresaw the terrible battle that was to come, and they just couldn’t read the signs?
Treebitten never believed in signs from Starclan. “Even if they wanted to meddle with our lives,” she’d once said, “they’re dead. Why would they know better?”
But right now, Leafriver desperately wanted a sign. Anything to tell them how to take charge and go from here.
“… Not recently, but I’m sure they’ll speak to us soon,” Leafriver said, trying to be reassuring. “I’ve never heard of the clan splitting up before, it’s got to be really dangerous. Marshstar surely…” Their leader’s name died in their throat. Clearing it, they looked over at Batwing. “Have you heard from them lately?” they said in a lower voice.
Jacques || at Moon Lake with Needle and Rope
“Of course it’s easy,” Jacques said, sitting next to Needle. “It’s the simplest of plans that do the best! The more complicated something gets…” He turned his head towards the water, so eerily still. “… the easier it is to miss something important.” He was quiet for a moment. "... So, those geese sure are something, huh? Wonder what they're thinking of right now."
