“They’re loud though.” Chervilkit complained, though he did like how warm it was to sleep next to all of them. He gave a little frown as soon as he heard Luckykit fall.
Flarestorm quickly turned to face Luckykit, his eyes wide with worry as he quickly checked over him. “Oh, Starclan, are you alright? I’m sorry. I should have kept it slow. Are you okay?” He nudged Luckykit gently, panicked at even the slight fall. He knew it wasn’t as dangerous as it felt, but the fear still filled him.

Briarpatch sat up straight, peering over where Luckykit was sprawled out of the ground. Her ears turned back, jostling Chevrilkit in the nest.
Snailkit jumped down from Flarestorm's back, standing dejectedly at Luckykit's side. "Come on, you can get up."
Luckykit rolled off his back, shaking out his pelt as he got reoriented. "I'm okay, just slipped." he mumbled, now embarrassed that he wasn't able to hold on like his sisters were. "I ruined the game."

"Hey!" Chervilkit complained lazily, hardly moved by the jostle but still giving a little pout. He quickly adjusted himself against her though.
"Oh no, you didn't ruin the game at all." Flarestorm assured, his voice thick with emotion as he felt bad for his son. He was too young to think things like this were his fault. Flarestorm quickly crouched down. "We can try it again. It takes time, but things like this, you learn real fast how to hang on better. It's going to be like that, for all of you. It's okay to fall. What matters is that you get back up, and that others can help you get back up." He nodded once to Snailkit, before he felt Birdkit clamber off his back and to Luckykit's other side.
"I'll help you." Birdkit squeaked, nosing her brother in an attempt to help him.

Luckykit struggled to his paws with the help of Birdkit, he smiled softly at his sister, touching his nose to her cheek in thanks. "Okay, we can try again."
Snailkit's ears perked right back up, she ran back to Flarestorm's side, clambering up to his back before he could even crouch down.
Briarpatch relaxed once she saw Luckykit standing again, seemingly uninjured. She brushed her tail over Chervilkit's back soothing, murmuring a soft apology to him.

“That’s right.” Flarestorm smiled, breathing a sigh of relief. “We won’t go as fast, but we’ll get you used to it. You’ll need to hold on tight when you learn to climb trees in a few moons.” He explained, nosing his kits back onto his back.

Luckykit took a deep breath before scrambling onto Flarestorm's back again with the help of his father and Birdkit. Snailkit even reached out to steady him with her tail when he reached the top.
Snailkit maneuvered to the side, motioning toward the spot in between Flarestorm's shoulder blades. "Stand there, I think it will be easier for you."

"See? We'll always find the best way if we do it together." Flarestorm grinned, humored at the somewhat corny sentiment, but grateful that his kits clearly seemed to have loving hearts for one another. He chuckled, asking. "Alright. Are we ready again?"

Sunpaw nodded her head, a determined look replacing her earlier excitement, “I’m ready for anything at this point.” She purred, looking over at her mentor.
“Shall we get started then?” Shadowmask asked, looking at the others. “Should we split up or stick together in small groups? I don’t like the idea of sending them off completely on their own.” She suggested, flicking her ear uneasily.

Buzzardfall nodded to Shadowmask. “We can do small groups. Two in one, three in another, perhaps?” She offered, looking at the other mentors for approval.
“Sounds good to me!” Plumwillow purred. “The groups can stay in one specific area, and then switch over after they’ve caught some prey. The nests to the right and the nests to the left.”

Warblerpaw kneaded the grass beneath his paws for a moment, betraying his excitement. He quickly settled, though, filled with determination for the task set before him.

(Howdy!)
Buzzardfall nodded once, looking amongst the apprentices and offering. "Warblerpaw and Sunpaw, perhaps, in the first group, and Coldpaw, Fallpaw, and Firepaw in the second group. The first group can start at the nest yards to the left, and the second group can start at the nest yards to the right. Sound good?" She offered, surprisingly serious for the assessments.
Plumwillow smirked. "Ah. If only there was an even six apprentices. No matter. Sunpaw and Warblerpaw will make a great team." She purred.

Snailkit dug her paws in, nodding. "Ready!"
Luckykit looked nervously at his sisters but nodded, echoing a small "Ready." He crouched between Flarestorm's shoulder blades, digging his claws in as best as he could.

Sunpaw gave Warblerpaw a friendly smile as she was paired up with him before looking back at Plumwillow and the others, “I’m sure we will! In fact, I bet we’ll catch the most prey here!” She purred, a competitive glint shining in her eyes as she looked over at her siblings.
Firepaw rolled his eyes at his sister’s boasting, “Right. Can we just get started already?” He asked, looking at Buzzardfall.
Shadowmask gave a flick of her ear and nodded in agreement, “Sounds like a plan. Let’s get going then.” She mewed, looking at the five apprentices. “Alright. You heard Buzzardfall. Get going and we’ll follow behind you.”

Flarestorm looked back to make sure Luckykit was secure, before he started galloping around again, this time keeping it at the first pace he had to not throw anyone off again. He didn't think his heart could take another scare, even if it was little. He felt a flicker of joy. This really was way better than what he had feared when he thought about fatherhood. He loved it!
Buzzardfall smirked. "Yes. We can start. I wouldn't want to keep you waiting, Firepaw." She nodded, flicking her tail in recognition to Coldpaw, Fallpaw, and the other mentors and padding towards the right.
Plumwillow giggled delightedly. "Alright then! First thing's first! You two will be using techniques to hunt both by yourself, and together. You need to be able to do both on a whim, of course. Got it? And no cheating. We can't give you any advice. We'll be watching." She nodded.

"Let's crush 'em," Warblerpaw mewed to Sunpaw quietly, mirroring her competitive energy. He nodded once to Plumwillow, padding towards the nests on the left, flicking his tail to Sunpaw.
"All right," he started. "Do you want to start separately or together? I'm leaning more towards separately first, myself."

Snailkit and Luckykit giggled as they flew around the nursery on their father's back. Luckykit cheered, relaxing a bit at the slower speed.
Briarpatch smiled as she watched them, her heart swelling with affection for her mate and kits. They would be just fine.

Skyflight grumbled as she walked into camp with a few soggy birds hanging from her mouth.
Shadespots hurried in behind her, a rumpled sparrow in her mouth.
The two she-cats placed their prey on the pile before separating, Shadespots made her way over to Specklepaw dipping her head to her daughter. While Skyflight found a semi-dry spot to groom her fur.

Birdkit squealed with delight as she held onto her father's pelt, trying her best to hold tight enough that Luckykit wouldn't fall if he pushed up against her.
Basilpaw flicked rain water from his paws as he watched his mother and sister talking. He gave a small sigh, though his face was knowing and faintly humored. Quickwing had seemed to be keen on going out with the assessment patrol, though Basilpaw assumed it had more to do with how much Plumwillow seemed to like his mentor. It was cute, really. At his side, Wingpaw was snoring loudly as he slept in his nest, sprawled out and taking up the entire shallow hollow of his nest.

Sunpaw nodded in agreement to Warblerpaw, “I think that’s a good idea!” She mewed, her eyes scanning the surrounding area. She pointed her nose at the far edge of the yard, glancing over at Warblerpaw, “I’m going to start over there. Wanna meet back up after we catch at least two or three prey?”

Specklepaw pawed at Basilpaw's shoulder, looking at him curiously, "What are you smiling at?"
Shadespots reached around Specklepaw to touch her nose to the top of Basilpaw's head, murmuring a soft and warm "hello".

“Hello, mother.” Basilpaw purred, his voice light and polite, before he looked at Specklepaw and mewed. “Quickwing was invited to help out with the assessments today. Invited by Plumwillow, that is.” He mewed knowingly, hoping his sister would understand what he was implying.

Specklepaw flicked her tail in interest, "She did? Well, how did Quickwing take it? She always seems so nervous around Plumwillow." she mewed with a giggle.
Shadespots gave an amused snort as she listened to the two apprentices gossip, settling down to groom the water out of her fur beside them.

"Sounds good," Warblerpaw replied, parting his jaws and eyeing the strange structure near the nest that held seeds.
A bird feeder, he gave the item a name, remembering his mother's description of it once. He slunk into the bushes, crouching low and waiting. Eventually, a bird landed on the grass beside the feeder, pecking around in the soil before fluttering up onto it. Warblerpaw crawled forward, the scent of the robin making his whiskers quiver. He waited just a heartbeat more before leaping, snagging the bird from the air as it tried to flee.

“You kidding? Quickwing didn’t even have to say anything besides hello for Plumwillow to start spluttering.” Basilpaw chuckled lightly, moving to groom his ears. “She totally likes Quickwing.”
Plumwillow had slipped quickly into a crevice made from the edge of a trimmed bush and the fence line. Watching Warblerpaw, she grinned at his quick catch. This would be as easy as breathing, she knew that much.

Sunpaw crept up to some overgrown bushes at the edge of the yard, her jaws parted as she scented for any prey. Catching the scent of a mouse, she paused and crouched down before continuing on her way. Once Sunpaw had spotted the mouse, she made quick work of pouncing and landing a bite to the back of its neck and killing it. Purring, she thanked StarClan and buried it before she moved on to look for another scent of prey.
Firepaw looked over at his brother and sister as they left to go search for their own prey, “Well, how do you guys think we should start?” He asked, flicking his ear.

One piece of prey down, Warblerpaw laid the robin below the trimmed bushes lining the fence near the feeder. He pondered lingering around the area to see if more birds showed up or even a squirrel, but a more tantalizing scent drew his attention.
He followed the unfamiliar scent along the fence, towards the front of the twoleg nest. Beneath a flowering, sweet-smelling bush, a mouse was nibbling on some strange blue seeds. The scent he'd picked up was sweet and tangy, unlike anything he'd smelled before.
Warblerpaw hesitated, but looking at how fat and occupied the mouse was...
He killed the rodent swiftly, wrinkling his nose at the tang its blood had. He ignored it, figuring it was just the smell of the blue seeds interfering. Carrying the mouse back to where the robin was, he laid it on top of the bird, trying to fight the way his mouth watered at the sight of some of its blood falling onto the feathers.
The gold tom shook his head, refocusing on his assessment and looking around the yard for Sunpaw.

The assessment has started, right now they’re doing the first part of the hunting portion in Twolegplace and then will move back into SkyClan territory to finish the rest of the hunting portion. They broke up into small groups, Warblerpaw with Sunpaw, while Firepaw, Fallpaw and Coldpaw are in the other group. Right now they’re looking for prey in the yards of the twoleg nests ^.^)

Coldpaw jumped down into the twoleg nest, keeping her eyes pricked and eyes open. Hopefully she could find some sort of prey.
Fallpaw was watching some birds flutter on the roof. Maybe if they came down he could catch one.

Buzzardfall watched Firepaw silently from her position upon the top of one of the fences, making it clear that she was watching, though she remained still as a stone to not alert all the prey.
